:00:57. > :01:05.Blue Peter. In true Blue Peter style I am on board a royal Sea

:01:05. > :01:11.King helicopter. I've got to get to the studios,

:01:11. > :01:21.thanks to these guys and and I'm making good progress. This is a

:01:21. > :01:33.

:01:33. > :01:39.Royal Navy Sea King helicopter. It Don't worry about me, Helen. I'm on

:01:39. > :01:43.the way there too except I am on this 260 horsepower jet ski. This

:01:43. > :01:52.thing is as fast as a Ferrari. It is awesome. In fact, I might be

:01:52. > :02:02.there before you are! Not that it is a race or anything!

:02:02. > :02:07.

:02:07. > :02:17.We will be finding out out more about their work, but for now, I

:02:17. > :02:17.

:02:17. > :03:15.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 57 seconds

:03:15. > :03:19.Welcome to your new home. That was so much fun. We better get

:03:19. > :03:24.changed. Good idea! This is our brand-new

:03:24. > :03:28.home in MediaCity in Salford, Greater Manchester. Overlooked by

:03:28. > :03:35.the Imperial War Museum and Old Trafford, home of Manchester United,

:03:35. > :03:41.Blue Peter has arrived. This area wasn't always this shiny

:03:41. > :03:49.and new. For over 100 years this site was

:03:49. > :03:56.snon as Salford -- known as Salford Docks. It was the third busiest

:03:56. > :04:00.port in the UK. As at its peak it employed 5,000

:04:00. > :04:03.people and had 200 huge cranes in operation.

:04:03. > :04:10.From here everything from textiles to cars were sent around the world

:04:10. > :04:14.on ships, weighing up to 12500 tonnes each. That's as heavy as the

:04:14. > :04:19.Eiffel Tower, with around 2,000 elephants on it!

:04:19. > :04:25.Industry started to decline in the 1970s and the docks closed in 1982.

:04:25. > :04:30.For 20 years, the area remained unused and unloved.

:04:30. > :04:33.What a huge transformation began in 2007 and here we are, MediaCity. It

:04:33. > :04:39.is one of the biggest studio complexes in all of Europe and now

:04:39. > :04:48.home to some of your favourites, like Football Focus and Match Of

:04:48. > :04:55.Hello. Hello.

:04:55. > :04:59.Welcome to our brand-new home. We are live on BBC One from our new

:04:59. > :05:03.studios, HQ7. This is the launch of a new series

:05:03. > :05:11.and for those of you worried about the dog, you needn't have bothered.

:05:11. > :05:16.He got here before we did. To kick things off for us, Chelsee

:05:16. > :05:21.Healey and Pasha Kovalev will be joining us to show us their moves.

:05:21. > :05:26.How is your your dancing, Barney? Rubbish.

:05:26. > :05:30.If you are watching live, send us an e-mail and tell us what you

:05:30. > :05:34.think of our new studio. Send us an e-mail because you might

:05:34. > :05:39.see your name on the TV! If you like your gadgets, you will

:05:39. > :05:47.know about a gadget that has had us hooked this year and it is the

:05:47. > :05:51.smartphone. There is a new scheme in schools. It is called Apps for

:05:51. > :05:55.Good. It gives you the chance to design your app. But it is an app

:05:55. > :05:58.with a twist. Mobile apps are everywhere. These

:05:58. > :06:04.clever applications can be downloaded to personalise your

:06:04. > :06:08.smartphone or tablet. There are new apps being created all the time.

:06:08. > :06:11.There are over 300,000 out there and we're going to show you some of

:06:11. > :06:18.the bestment here is our first top three and where better to start

:06:18. > :06:24.than with what you love doing most, playing games. At three, it is

:06:24. > :06:28.Fruit Ninja, use your finger to slice through the fruit. Addictive

:06:28. > :06:36.and one of the best selling games this year. At two, it is Angry

:06:36. > :06:41.Birds. This app has been downloaded over 300 million times.

:06:41. > :06:47.And at number one, it is Cut The Rope.

:06:47. > :06:52.Feed the cute monster by swiping your finger to release the treats.

:06:52. > :06:55.So good, it has won a BAFTA. We will have more later. Smartphones

:06:55. > :07:00.don't have to be used for entertainment. A new scheme is

:07:00. > :07:05.going into schools to help children design smartphone apps. It is about

:07:05. > :07:14.creating apps that help make life better. We have enlisted help.

:07:14. > :07:19.won the race! Miss gadge eth Show herself --

:07:19. > :07:23.Gadget Show herself, Pollyanna. She has tested all kinds of gadgets,

:07:23. > :07:28.so if she can't spot a good app, no one can.

:07:28. > :07:34.We will have to pitch our apps in front of a panel of experts.

:07:34. > :07:37.Hi Barney. Hi gang. This is where we have two teams who

:07:38. > :07:43.play against one another and one wins.

:07:43. > :07:48.Are you ready for an app-off? talk about your app. What is it?

:07:48. > :07:54.is an alarm clock, but with a twist. How is it different from a normal

:07:54. > :07:58.alarm clock? When you set your alarm clock, how do you do it? I

:07:58. > :08:03.set two alarms. If the first one told you need to

:08:03. > :08:11.get up, you are going to lose your job, whatever, put that load on you,

:08:11. > :08:18.would you press the snooze button. Exactly. My team's app is an alarm

:08:18. > :08:26.to get you out of bed by playing a message. If that doesn't work, it

:08:26. > :08:30.gets a friend to call you. Pollyanna's team hit on an issue

:08:30. > :08:37.that could be bigger. We thought bullying was one of the

:08:37. > :08:40.morn issues. -- important issues. We came up with an app that has

:08:40. > :08:45.advice. It is in a fun and comic style.

:08:45. > :08:49.That's a great idea. It does affect so many people. It is like, it is

:08:49. > :08:53.it is basically a whole community for people that are suffering from

:08:53. > :08:57.cyber bullying and it is the whole support system and support network

:08:57. > :09:00.for you to get through, I guess, which could be one of the hardest

:09:00. > :09:10.times a lot of people face in their life.

:09:10. > :09:13.

:09:13. > :09:16.Pollyanna's team have come up with 2-the-res-Q.

:09:16. > :09:20.Time to practise what we will say to the judges. We are acting out

:09:20. > :09:23.the risks of oversleeping. Sorry, one of our team members

:09:23. > :09:27.should be here, but she is late. I think it is all about body language.

:09:27. > :09:31.The way you talk. How confident you sound. It is very much like working

:09:31. > :09:35.in TV, but they are doing it to a panel of real human beings who will

:09:35. > :09:41.be reacting as they are talking. I can hear Barney and his team.

:09:41. > :09:48.They seem to be jove jovial. A lot of laughing. I believe their app

:09:48. > :09:56.has that aspect to it. Ready? It is my acting debut. I'm excited.

:09:56. > :10:01.Where were you going? I'm going... Pollyanna's team have got her

:10:01. > :10:06.playing the role of a bully to show the effect it can have.

:10:06. > :10:10.How did it go? All right. I think we've got a winning app.

:10:10. > :10:13.you think? Yeah. Are you confident? Yeah.

:10:13. > :10:17.I can tell you that you are not going to win.

:10:17. > :10:21.What makes you say that? You should see ours. Ours is good.

:10:21. > :10:27.We bring you more of the latest apps and which one of our apps will

:10:27. > :10:32.impress the judges? We have decided that the winner is... You can't

:10:32. > :10:37.stop it there! We will have to wait to later. We

:10:38. > :10:43.will find you the top three apps to make you go "wow.". You looked so

:10:43. > :10:47.cool on that jet ski. That fighting talk, we've got to work on that.

:10:47. > :10:53.My My fighting talk is great. Put them up sunshine.

:10:53. > :11:00.We have had lots of letters. Lots of you are writing to us because

:11:00. > :11:04.you care about the environment including me. There is a picture of

:11:04. > :11:11.Green Girl who will save the planet and Amber and Joel have been in

:11:11. > :11:17.touch. They made a windmill out of recycled material. Well done, guys.

:11:17. > :11:21.Very cool. This is Heather. She made herself a

:11:21. > :11:27.dress. A load of rubbish. You can't say that, Barney, it is

:11:27. > :11:32.harsh. She made it out of plastic bags and

:11:32. > :11:37.paper. For that you get your own green

:11:37. > :11:40.Blue Peter badge. Because so many of you have been in

:11:40. > :11:44.touch telling us you care about the environment. I have been to meet a

:11:44. > :11:48.group of people who do as well. They do something interesting with

:11:48. > :11:52.rubbish. Festivals, attracts people and rubbish, but it doesn't go in

:11:52. > :12:01.the bin. England's green and pleasant land.

:12:01. > :12:06.A picture of beauty, tranquillity and serenity.

:12:06. > :12:11.That is is until hundreds of thousands of music lovers descend

:12:11. > :12:17.en masse to enjoy one of the many music festivals held around the UK

:12:17. > :12:22.every year. With tents, sleeping sleeping bags, and food and drink,

:12:22. > :12:31.festival goers spend the days enjoying their favourite bands and

:12:31. > :12:41.the nights camping out nearby. What happens when the party stops?

:12:41. > :12:42.

:12:42. > :12:45.Every year, each festival in the UK is left with an average of over

:12:45. > :12:51.7500 abandoned tents. That's over 80,000 tents chucked away every

:12:51. > :12:57.year. The clear-up is a massive job and this festival in Chelmsford is

:12:57. > :13:03.no exception. Enter Ver ritty and her gang of

:13:03. > :13:12.helpers. They have come up with a way of getting this place spick and

:13:12. > :13:16.span again once the once the 90,000 revellers have gone. This place is

:13:16. > :13:19.disgusting. Is this particularly bad? This bit is good because there

:13:19. > :13:22.is a nice open space that we can walk through without falling over

:13:22. > :13:27.anything. I can't get over the fact that

:13:27. > :13:32.someone has left so much stuff. They have had a full blown camp

:13:32. > :13:35.fire, noodles stuck to the bottom of a pan. You wouldn't do that in

:13:35. > :13:38.real life, why do they do it? have had a great time and they

:13:38. > :13:43.leave everything. They can't be bothered to take it home.

:13:43. > :13:51.I cannot believe how many tents are left intact. I thought a few would

:13:51. > :13:55.get left, but over there, there is a field of tents and there is not a

:13:55. > :13:58.soul in them? Where will the tents go? A lot of

:13:58. > :14:03.the time the bags and the instructions are in the tents. So

:14:03. > :14:05.we wrap them up and ship it off and the Rotary sell it and the proceeds

:14:05. > :14:10.from the sales of the tents goes to help charity.

:14:10. > :14:13.It is a case of one man's thrash is another man's treasure? Yeah,

:14:13. > :14:19.pretty much. Have you found anybody in a tent

:14:19. > :14:23.asleep who has not left yet? It has happened. Like you open the tent to

:14:23. > :14:28.check if it is OK and there will be someone asleep in there!

:14:28. > :14:31.That is immaculate, isn't it? That doesn't look like it has been slept

:14:31. > :14:34.in. Oh, it lass. It has been slept in.

:14:34. > :14:37.The outside is nice, the inside is not.

:14:37. > :14:40.Don't go around the front of that tenth!

:14:40. > :14:49.-- tent. Big tents in good condition are

:14:49. > :14:55.valuable to you guys? Yeah. This looks brilliant, it is good.

:14:55. > :15:01.We can't take this one, but because someone has taken a can and spray

:15:01. > :15:10.painted, we can't take that one. We have got to leave it I am afraid.

:15:10. > :15:14.This is a good one, yeah? I'm going to help.

:15:14. > :15:18.Someone has left an actual pair of shoes. They are worth something,

:15:18. > :15:24.aren't they? I am such a hoarder, I would never throw out a pair of

:15:24. > :15:30.shoes like that. That is one tent taken town and

:15:30. > :15:35.this will go in the collection truck and be resold. The tents are

:15:35. > :15:40.packed up and on the van ready to be sold for charity and the gang

:15:40. > :15:43.have finished for the day. Not all of these tents have been

:15:43. > :15:48.abandoned. Some people left them intentionally. They are encouraged

:15:48. > :15:53.to do so because it raises money. I have got to be honest, there is a

:15:53. > :15:56.lot of stuff here that could have been taken home. That's someone's

:15:56. > :16:06.tooth brush and they look in good condition.

:16:06. > :16:08.

:16:08. > :16:18.Those festival goers have a weird diet. There was shampoo and toilet

:16:18. > :16:22.

:16:22. > :16:32.toilet roll in that pan, no wonder Two teams and two apps to pitch to

:16:32. > :16:33.

:16:33. > :16:39.the judges. Claire Vivien from Del, an internet

:16:39. > :16:45.expert and apps dofrl, apps developer, Greg.

:16:45. > :16:48.So what are the judges looking for? The principle in developing apps,

:16:48. > :16:51.they are simple and easy, that you don't need to explain to someone

:16:51. > :16:55.how to do it. We are looking for an app that

:16:55. > :16:58.deals with an issue that young people really care about. Something

:16:58. > :17:02.that affects lots of young people's lives.

:17:02. > :17:06.A good sales pitch is one where there are three or four strong

:17:06. > :17:10.messages and no one can leave the sales pitch missing what those

:17:10. > :17:17.three or four strong messages were. So while the judges take their

:17:17. > :17:27.seats, let's check out our next top three most useful apps.

:17:27. > :17:32.

:17:32. > :17:36.At three, it is An app that changes language in front of your eyes.

:17:36. > :17:43.And at number one, no more bumping into things. It is the app that

:17:43. > :17:47.uses your phone's camera to help you walk and text at the same time.

:17:47. > :17:52.Wish you luck -- wish us luck. Time to get the pitching underway.

:17:52. > :17:58.One of our team should be here, but she is late. Yeah, one of our team

:17:59. > :18:04.has overslept. If only she had been using Buzzer Buddies.

:18:04. > :18:09.When you wake-up, you press the snooze button and if someone was

:18:09. > :18:19.there to tell you to to wake up, you would.

:18:19. > :18:21.

:18:21. > :18:26.The pitch went well, or did it? We forgot the power point.

:18:26. > :18:30.That's a good thing. We will see how the next team do.

:18:30. > :18:33.Pollyanna's team need to convince the judges that the world needs an

:18:33. > :18:36.anti-bullying app. The situation we are addressing

:18:36. > :18:41.today is teenagers not feeling safe in places they are meant to feel

:18:41. > :18:44.safe. Where do you think you're going?

:18:44. > :18:54.School. Have you got any money?

:18:54. > :18:56.

:18:56. > :19:01.Where is your your phone? Teenagesers are -- teenagers in a

:19:01. > :19:04.situation that they don't know who to tell.

:19:04. > :19:12.You did a brilliant job. I don't think you could have done any

:19:12. > :19:18.better if you tried. Top for our final three. At three,

:19:18. > :19:28.it is Song Ify. The app that records your voice and turns it

:19:28. > :19:34.into a song. I like this app. At number two, it is Dinosaur Zoo.

:19:34. > :19:44.Annoy the dinosaurs to make them roar. Don't make them too mad or

:19:44. > :19:46.

:19:46. > :19:50.this might happen. Then it is Google Sky Map. But which of our

:19:50. > :19:54.ideas will be turned into an actual app?

:19:54. > :19:59.First of all, I am talking about Buzzer Buddies. We liked that idea.

:19:59. > :20:04.It was a really strong concept. It was nice and original. It has not

:20:04. > :20:08.really been done before. In terms of things we weren't sure about, we

:20:08. > :20:11.were wondering how long it would be used for and how long its life span

:20:11. > :20:16.would be. To the the rescue, we loved the

:20:16. > :20:21.fact that you tackled probably the biggest problem in education. I

:20:21. > :20:25.loved the impact of the of the presentation. It really landedted

:20:25. > :20:35.problem with us and we really understood the issue.

:20:35. > :20:50.

:20:50. > :20:56.We've decided that the winner is... 2-the-res-Q.

:20:56. > :21:03.Con Congratulations. It is all about sportsmanship.

:21:03. > :21:07.I was joking, thank you to Pollyanna and congratulations to

:21:07. > :21:13.the 2-the-res-Q team. Their app has been made and you can download it

:21:13. > :21:16.to your phone. How cool. If you would would like to make

:21:16. > :21:21.your own apps, go and see your teachers and say you would like to

:21:22. > :21:29.sign up for this new scheme called Apps for Good.

:21:29. > :21:33.Thank you for your messages. It is time for our Strictly performance.

:21:33. > :21:43.Here is Chelsee Healey and Pasha Kovalev.

:21:43. > :21:52.

:21:52. > :21:56.It is Chelsee and Pasha. Thank you for coming in.

:21:56. > :22:01.Thank you for having us. We have had so many questions in

:22:01. > :22:07.for you. Craig is 12, asks, what is your favourite type of dance,

:22:07. > :22:13.Pasha? Anything which is Latin, fast, quick movement, lots of hips.

:22:13. > :22:19.Thank you. Chelsee, which of the dances do you think you will find

:22:19. > :22:28.the most difficult? The slow ones. I'm not good with slow movement.

:22:28. > :22:32.He likes the fast, quick ones. bet I will be terrible with the

:22:32. > :22:36.fast ones as well. What's the most important thing to

:22:36. > :22:41.remember during dancing? Just enjoying it. Having fun and not

:22:41. > :22:51.worrying about anything, but what you feel at the moment. What do you

:22:51. > :22:54.

:22:54. > :22:58.think makes a great a great Strictly Dancer? Shall we show them.

:22:58. > :23:03.We will do some salsa. We do it on Strictly all the time. Are you

:23:03. > :23:07.ready to learn? Get your left foot ready to go.

:23:07. > :23:13.Step forward and bring it back to your right. Now take your right and

:23:13. > :23:21.step back. Don't rush. The left step back. Don't rush. The left

:23:21. > :23:26.goes forward. Yes, let's speed it up a little bit.

:23:26. > :23:36.Left, right back. Speed it up. Yes. Arms going,

:23:36. > :23:38.

:23:38. > :23:43.that's nice. Even faster. Good. Take the left

:23:43. > :23:53.foot to the left. Close together, right to the right. Close together.

:23:53. > :23:59.

:23:59. > :24:06.Yes! Left. Right. Let's do it together.

:24:06. > :24:16.See how I hold my partner? A little bit higher.

:24:16. > :24:26.Nice. Start with the basic. Speed it up.

:24:26. > :24:32.

:24:32. > :24:39.Keep going. You're missing this one.

:24:39. > :24:45.Not a chance. While these two have a showdown,

:24:45. > :24:49.why don't we find out what is coming up on tomorrow's show. If

:24:49. > :24:57.you went to -- want to get involved in the Blue Peter appeal, you need
