6:00:43 > 6:00:45Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou...?

6:00:45 > 6:00:47Linds, I'm Radzi, not Romeo.

6:00:47 > 6:00:49Radz, I know, but I'm just practising

6:00:49 > 6:00:50and getting into character,

6:00:50 > 6:00:53because we're celebrating 400 years of William Shakespeare!

6:00:53 > 6:00:55We don't have Romeo, but we do have the winner of The Voice

6:00:55 > 6:00:57holding an armadillo.

6:00:57 > 6:00:58Well, that's cool.

6:01:12 > 6:01:15APPLAUSE

6:01:15 > 6:01:17Hello!

6:01:17 > 6:01:20Welcome to a live Blue Peter, and do not go anywhere, my friends,

6:01:20 > 6:01:23because we have a bumper show coming your way right now.

6:01:23 > 6:01:24You have already met the man himself,

6:01:24 > 6:01:27the man, the myth, the legend, the winner of The Voice, Kevin Simm,

6:01:27 > 6:01:29performing his brand-new single later on,

6:01:29 > 6:01:32- All You Good Friends. Are you up for it, Kev?- I can't wait!

6:01:32 > 6:01:34- Straight up top!- We love it. It's going to be a good show.

6:01:34 > 6:01:37Head this way, because maybe you remember when we launched

6:01:37 > 6:01:39our Team GB Blue Peter sport badge competition.

6:01:39 > 6:01:41We're so excited about it,

6:01:41 > 6:01:44because all the athletes going to Rio this year are going to get

6:01:44 > 6:01:45their very own Blue Peter sport badge.

6:01:45 > 6:01:48And today, we are announcing the winner of that competition.

6:01:48 > 6:01:51Yes, we are. I'll be performing for the very first time

6:01:51 > 6:01:55in a Shakespeare play, taking to the stage to celebrate 400 years

6:01:55 > 6:01:57of the world's most famous playwright.

6:01:57 > 6:02:00- I'm going to leave you there. See you later.- Bye-bye, Linds.

6:02:00 > 6:02:01We're going a little tour of the studio,

6:02:01 > 6:02:03because I'm pretty excited to meet

6:02:03 > 6:02:05three pretty amazing little creatures.

6:02:05 > 6:02:07They've come in for a visit and they are joined by

6:02:07 > 6:02:09our animal expert, Scott, everybody!

6:02:09 > 6:02:10CHEERING

6:02:10 > 6:02:13Scott, I'm going to very carefully... Is it OK if I climb in?

6:02:13 > 6:02:15Of course, come on in. It's good to be back.

6:02:15 > 6:02:18We love getting involved. Who have you brought along with you here?

6:02:18 > 6:02:21As you're announcing the winner of your Team GB sports badge winner,

6:02:21 > 6:02:23- and it's nearly the Olympics in Brazil...- It is.

6:02:23 > 6:02:25..I thought I'd bring along some of our animal friends

6:02:25 > 6:02:27that originate from South America.

6:02:27 > 6:02:28This is Dylan and Doris, our armadillos.

6:02:28 > 6:02:31Oh, my goodness, we've got armadillos live in the studio!

6:02:31 > 6:02:34This is so exciting, I have always wanted to meet an armadillo.

6:02:34 > 6:02:35That is true, I was telling you earlier.

6:02:35 > 6:02:38- You did.- So if there's an animal that you've always wanted to meet,

6:02:38 > 6:02:40we want to know, what is it and why?

6:02:40 > 6:02:43Head online!

6:02:43 > 6:02:46Tell us what that animal is, and we'd love to read your comment out

6:02:46 > 6:02:47at the end of the show. Look at Doris!

6:02:47 > 6:02:50- She jumps up a lot, doesn't she? - She's very friendly.

6:02:50 > 6:02:52We love them. So, tell me a little bit more about them.

6:02:52 > 6:02:53Why are they so special?

6:02:53 > 6:02:56Well, Dylan and Doris are actually six-banded armadillos,

6:02:56 > 6:02:59and they get that name from the six squidgy bands across their back.

6:02:59 > 6:03:01- Oh, yeah.- They give them a bit of flexibility.

6:03:01 > 6:03:02Now, did you know that the word armadillo

6:03:02 > 6:03:04is Spanish for "little armoured one"?

6:03:04 > 6:03:07- I didn't know that!- That is quite cute.- That is very cute, yeah.

6:03:07 > 6:03:10And that refers to their bony plates that cover their head,

6:03:10 > 6:03:11their body and their tail, as well,

6:03:11 > 6:03:13so it's awesome protection from predators.

6:03:13 > 6:03:16They are actually the only mammal to have a shell like this.

6:03:16 > 6:03:18Oh, really? Do you know, while I'm feeling Doris here,

6:03:18 > 6:03:21she's really warm. They're quite hot animals, aren't they?

6:03:21 > 6:03:23They are quite enjoying the warm studio today,

6:03:23 > 6:03:25because their habitat that they come from in the wild

6:03:25 > 6:03:29is in South America - rainforests, semi-deserts and grasslands,

6:03:29 > 6:03:31so they are...they really like it to be nice and warm.

6:03:31 > 6:03:33OK. And they are nice and awake... Oh, hello!

6:03:33 > 6:03:35Doris is ready for camera, she's woken up.

6:03:35 > 6:03:37They are nice and awake today, aren't they, as well?

6:03:37 > 6:03:39Yeah, well, these guys are actually

6:03:39 > 6:03:41the only diurnal species of armadillo,

6:03:41 > 6:03:43- so they are especially enjoying the heat.- Diurnal.

6:03:43 > 6:03:45That is a good word, everybody, write it down.

6:03:45 > 6:03:47- Do you know what it means? - No, tell me.

6:03:47 > 6:03:50It means that they are awake in the day-time instead of the night-time.

6:03:50 > 6:03:52It's brilliant. And they move quite quickly,

6:03:52 > 6:03:54because when we were rehearsing earlier,

6:03:54 > 6:03:56they were really scuttling about in here, weren't they?

6:03:56 > 6:03:57They are actually quite speedy,

6:03:57 > 6:04:00considering they've got quite short little legs, they're really fast.

6:04:00 > 6:04:02That's because it is one of their main ways

6:04:02 > 6:04:04of protecting themselves from predators,

6:04:04 > 6:04:06so they run really fast, disappear down burrows,

6:04:06 > 6:04:09or maybe into thorny bushes so that their armour protects them,

6:04:09 > 6:04:12but the predator can't chase them. That works pretty good for them.

6:04:12 > 6:04:14They're clever animals, they're so well adapted.

6:04:14 > 6:04:16Do you want to know some other things about them?

6:04:16 > 6:04:18- Yes, tell me more! - You might have checked out

6:04:18 > 6:04:20- that they've got tiny eyes, haven't they?- Yeah.

6:04:20 > 6:04:21They don't really see that well,

6:04:21 > 6:04:23so their super-sense to find their way around

6:04:23 > 6:04:26is this big, long, squidgy nose. You can hear her, like...

6:04:26 > 6:04:29HE SNIFFS They are doing a lot of sniffing around this hay here!

6:04:29 > 6:04:32That's a super sense of smell. If she comes up on her back legs,

6:04:32 > 6:04:34you will be able to see she's got gigantic claws

6:04:34 > 6:04:36that she uses for digging burrows, so she's an expert digger.

6:04:36 > 6:04:39She's got a gigantic, long, sticky tongue, just like an anteater,

6:04:39 > 6:04:40that she's related to,

6:04:40 > 6:04:43so she can slurp up ants and termites out of burrows.

6:04:43 > 6:04:46That's the type of thing she likes to eat, but other things, as well.

6:04:46 > 6:04:48- Yeah.- Do you want to know what else she eats?- Yeah!

6:04:48 > 6:04:51She will eat plants, fruit, and even other animals.

6:04:51 > 6:04:54Vertebrate animals like lizards and frogs.

6:04:54 > 6:04:56Do you think she's hungry now? I know lots of people at home

6:04:56 > 6:04:58might be having their dinner. Is it snack time?

6:04:58 > 6:05:01- Would you like to feed them? - Yes, please!- You might not like

6:05:01 > 6:05:03- what they're going to be eating today.- Oh, really?

6:05:03 > 6:05:04They like to eat things that wiggle,

6:05:04 > 6:05:07their most favourite food is definitely insects.

6:05:07 > 6:05:08We've got some little wiggly worms here.

6:05:08 > 6:05:11I'm going to hold them. This is going to tickle, isn't it? Ugh!

6:05:11 > 6:05:13So if you turn that into a burrow for them.

6:05:13 > 6:05:15- Turn it into a burrow, like this? - OK.- OK.

6:05:15 > 6:05:17Let's see if we can get one of them back around.

6:05:17 > 6:05:19Doris, do you want a snack?

6:05:19 > 6:05:20Here you go!

6:05:20 > 6:05:22She's having a little feed there.

6:05:22 > 6:05:25You'll be able to see the big, long tongue coming out.

6:05:25 > 6:05:26This is amazing! This is so cool!

6:05:26 > 6:05:29She's eating all her little worms. I can feel that tongue as well.

6:05:29 > 6:05:32Aww, that was... Yeah, did you enjoy that?

6:05:32 > 6:05:34- Did she get them all? - Yeah! Now, you've brought

6:05:34 > 6:05:37a little friend of theirs along as well, haven't you?

6:05:37 > 6:05:38I've brought along another type

6:05:38 > 6:05:40- of armadillo for you to meet as well.- Yes!

6:05:40 > 6:05:43- Quite a cute little armadillo.- You can never have enough armadillos.

6:05:43 > 6:05:45No, we're done, Doris, that's enough!

6:05:45 > 6:05:47You've had all your snacks, just wait!

6:05:47 > 6:05:51She's lovely.

6:05:51 > 6:05:55- So who is this?- So this is Melon, and Melon is...

6:05:55 > 6:05:57a one, two, three-banded armadillo.

6:05:57 > 6:05:59- Oh, wow.- Also from South America.

6:05:59 > 6:06:01She's actually quite a special little armadillo,

6:06:01 > 6:06:03because out of all the species of armadillo,

6:06:03 > 6:06:06she's the only one that can curl up in a proper ball.

6:06:06 > 6:06:09- That's incredibly satisfying.- Her head and tail are perfect shapes,

6:06:09 > 6:06:11and they lock into each other to make themselves

6:06:11 > 6:06:14into a ball of armour, so that's pretty cool, right?

6:06:14 > 6:06:15She looks so cool, can I hold her?

6:06:15 > 6:06:17- Yeah, are you ready to hold her? - Hello, Melon!

6:06:17 > 6:06:20I'm holding an armadillo! This is amazing.

6:06:20 > 6:06:22This is why being a Blue Peter presenter is the best job.

6:06:22 > 6:06:24Actually, she feels like a little teddy bear.

6:06:24 > 6:06:26Like I'm holding a little teddy.

6:06:26 > 6:06:28- But she's really warm, isn't she? - She's nice and warm.

6:06:28 > 6:06:30She's been in her hay. Oh, we love them.

6:06:30 > 6:06:33If you want to see what these armadillos have been up to,

6:06:33 > 6:06:35we've had a little armadillo-cam in here,

6:06:35 > 6:06:37in the studio, watching them all day,

6:06:37 > 6:06:40their secret little life. Make sure you head online to the website

6:06:40 > 6:06:42after the show, and check it out.

6:06:42 > 6:06:44And from me and Melon and Scott,

6:06:44 > 6:06:47thank you so much for bringing these gorgeous creatures in! Radzi.

6:06:47 > 6:06:50There's a lot of love for armadillos,

6:06:50 > 6:06:52especially from Natalie from Norfolk.

6:06:52 > 6:06:56Check out the detail Natalie has in making this 3D armadillo.

6:06:56 > 6:06:57We've got chocolate coins,

6:06:57 > 6:07:00the wrappers there, going all the way along the shell.

6:07:00 > 6:07:01The same for the ears. The detail!

6:07:01 > 6:07:04Cardboard for the tail, egg crate for the head,

6:07:04 > 6:07:06Natalie, absolutely fantastic job.

6:07:06 > 6:07:10And, do you remember a few weeks ago, I performed as Adele?

6:07:10 > 6:07:13Do you indeed? That is me giving it the beans there. Well...

6:07:13 > 6:07:15- You gave it everything.- ..Amelia from Manchester certainly does.

6:07:15 > 6:07:18She's recreated it perfectly here.

6:07:18 > 6:07:22Even with my textured coat there. Saying, "Hello, it's me!"

6:07:22 > 6:07:25And that's about as good as my singing voice gets, but, Amelia,

6:07:25 > 6:07:27that gets you a blue Blue Peter badge.

6:07:27 > 6:07:30Now, I'm just going to wipe all this armadillo off my hands here.

6:07:30 > 6:07:33You may remember that last week... They really did have a good nibble!

6:07:33 > 6:07:35You may remember, last week, we were out in the garden,

6:07:35 > 6:07:38planting some rocket seeds. You can see us, the red and the blue ones.

6:07:38 > 6:07:40We don't know which have been to space,

6:07:40 > 6:07:43but Jacob from Warwick has written in this, he says,

6:07:43 > 6:07:45"I wonder which is the space rocket?"

6:07:45 > 6:07:47And then you can have a look down here,

6:07:47 > 6:07:49he's got the red ones with little shoots of rocket growing out,

6:07:49 > 6:07:53and the blue ones with actual mini-rockets growing out of them,

6:07:53 > 6:07:54so I think Jacob thinks he knows

6:07:54 > 6:07:57that the blue ones are the space rockets.

6:07:57 > 6:07:59Well, Jacob, you'll have to wait and find out, my friend.

6:07:59 > 6:08:01Tim Peake will be revealing it later.

6:08:01 > 6:08:03- We actually don't know. - We don't know. We don't know, J.

6:08:03 > 6:08:05On that same show, we investigated the pond,

6:08:05 > 6:08:07and William from Solihull did exactly the same thing.

6:08:07 > 6:08:09That's there. I'm going to call that fish Radzi,

6:08:09 > 6:08:12it's official, I just said it there on live Blue Peter.

6:08:12 > 6:08:14Well, look at this creation from William.

6:08:14 > 6:08:17Glitter along the fish here, the detail of all the different fish.

6:08:17 > 6:08:20William, that's earned you a blue badge, my friend! Well done, sir!

6:08:20 > 6:08:23Now, someone who doesn't need a Blue Peter badge,

6:08:23 > 6:08:26because she's got a gold one, is Her Majesty, the Queen.

6:08:26 > 6:08:28You can see her here getting her gold badge in 2002.

6:08:28 > 6:08:31Well, we've got a little treat that's been sent in to her,

6:08:31 > 6:08:34- because it is the big 9-0 today. - It is the 9-0!

6:08:34 > 6:08:38It's her 90th, so, happy birthday to Her Majesty, the Queen.

6:08:38 > 6:08:39And this has been sent in by Natalie -

6:08:39 > 6:08:41I'll turn it this way - from Worcester.

6:08:41 > 6:08:43- Have a look at that.- Look at that.

6:08:43 > 6:08:44She's put so many candles, sprinkles,

6:08:44 > 6:08:47there's bits of cream and sweeties on the side.

6:08:47 > 6:08:48We've got foam there, making the sponge.

6:08:48 > 6:08:50And we've even got some red string making the jam.

6:08:50 > 6:08:53Natalie, you are a genius. We're going to eat this later.

6:08:53 > 6:08:55Off the chart, absolutely off the chart.

6:08:55 > 6:08:57Well done to all of you who've sent something in.

6:08:57 > 6:08:58Thank you to all of you, and remember,

6:08:58 > 6:09:00if you get your hands on a Blue Peter badge,

6:09:00 > 6:09:02you can get into over, Lindsey Russell,

6:09:02 > 6:09:03200 attractions across the UK...

6:09:03 > 6:09:04- BOTH:- # ..for free! #

6:09:04 > 6:09:06- We're getting better at that! - We are!

6:09:06 > 6:09:07Nearly a harmony there.

6:09:07 > 6:09:10And we love it when you write to us and send in all this brilliant post,

6:09:10 > 6:09:13because it fills up our Badge Wall. So if you want to do that,

6:09:13 > 6:09:16the address that you need is going to be right here!

6:09:16 > 6:09:17It is:

6:09:20 > 6:09:222BH, or not 2BH?

6:09:22 > 6:09:24I see what you did there, Lindsey!

6:09:24 > 6:09:26She allowed me to link in to my challenge,

6:09:26 > 6:09:28it's the acting challenge, it's my Shakespeare, check it out!

6:09:32 > 6:09:36The Royal Shakespeare Company are on tour with A Midsummer Night's Dream,

6:09:36 > 6:09:38one of Shakespeare's most famous plays,

6:09:38 > 6:09:42and they've given me the opportunity to perform with them.

6:09:42 > 6:09:44That's fine! Because with my acting background,

6:09:44 > 6:09:47what could possibly go wrong?

6:09:47 > 6:09:51Ahem, yeah, I am a natural on stage. No problem.

6:09:51 > 6:09:56Anyway, first, I need to show the director, Erica, what I can do.

6:09:56 > 6:09:58Now until the break of day,

6:09:58 > 6:10:02through this house, each fairy stray.

6:10:02 > 6:10:04Meet me all by break of day.

6:10:04 > 6:10:07'Time for Erica's feedback.'

6:10:07 > 6:10:10- What did you think?- I guess there's some things to work on

6:10:10 > 6:10:11in terms of standing on a stage.

6:10:11 > 6:10:14I'd love to hear your voice come out more strongly.

6:10:14 > 6:10:15And in quite a big theatre,

6:10:15 > 6:10:18we're going to need to find a bit more power in your voice.

6:10:18 > 6:10:21I'll be doing three things in the play.

6:10:21 > 6:10:25I'll have to say a line, take part in a dance sequence, and sing.

6:10:25 > 6:10:28That's right, I said sing. As in, a song.

6:10:28 > 6:10:29HE LAUGHS

6:10:29 > 6:10:31Mmm. This could be tricky.

6:10:31 > 6:10:35But who better to give me some help than the cast of a play?

6:10:35 > 6:10:39ALL: # La-la lullaby

6:10:39 > 6:10:43# Never harm, nor spell, nor charm... #

6:10:45 > 6:10:48I am so out of my depth. I am like a person learning

6:10:48 > 6:10:51to swim for the first time, I am doing it in the Atlantic Ocean.

6:10:51 > 6:10:56# Singing our sweet lullaby... #

6:10:56 > 6:11:00He's doing very well with the skills, he's singing in tune

6:11:00 > 6:11:01and he's learning the moves.

6:11:01 > 6:11:04To be able to stay absolutely on the timing

6:11:04 > 6:11:06and to know the words really accurately,

6:11:06 > 6:11:08he's going to have to do quite a lot of rehearsing it.

6:11:08 > 6:11:14# Lullaby... #

6:11:14 > 6:11:15Yeah!

6:11:15 > 6:11:16APPLAUSE

6:11:16 > 6:11:18- Very good!- I was awful!

6:11:19 > 6:11:23A Midsummer Night's Dream is one of Shakespeare's best loved comedies.

6:11:23 > 6:11:26Born over 400 years ago in Stratford-upon-Avon,

6:11:26 > 6:11:30Shakespeare wrote around 37 plays.

6:11:30 > 6:11:33Not content with writing them, he also performed in them, too,

6:11:33 > 6:11:37playing many of his biggest roles, such as Hamlet and Othello.

6:11:37 > 6:11:42He contributed over 3,000 words to the English language, and his plays

6:11:42 > 6:11:45contain many popular phrases that we still use today.

6:11:47 > 6:11:51My role is part of the fairy train, a group of fairies that serve

6:11:51 > 6:11:54the fairy queen, Titania.

6:11:54 > 6:11:55But this production is unique,

6:11:55 > 6:11:59because they are asking local schoolchildren to take part.

6:11:59 > 6:12:01And for one night only,

6:12:01 > 6:12:04I'm getting to perform alongside this lot in Bradford.

6:12:06 > 6:12:08Although I've been practising at home,

6:12:08 > 6:12:10this is our first full rehearsal together.

6:12:16 > 6:12:17I am so underprepared,

6:12:17 > 6:12:20and these guys know exactly what they're doing.

6:12:22 > 6:12:23Help!

6:12:23 > 6:12:25We start with a song.

6:12:25 > 6:12:28In the first rehearsal, this is what I struggled with.

6:12:28 > 6:12:31# Newts and blindworms, do no wrong

6:12:31 > 6:12:35# Come not near our fairy queen... #

6:12:35 > 6:12:36I just about muddle through,

6:12:36 > 6:12:40but now it's the dance that I'm finding hard.

6:12:40 > 6:12:43I'm making loads of mistakes.

6:12:44 > 6:12:45Wake up, Radzi!

6:12:46 > 6:12:50'But something I do get right is my one line.'

6:12:50 > 6:12:52Ever shall in safety rest.

6:12:55 > 6:12:57APPLAUSE

6:12:58 > 6:13:00That was tough.

6:13:00 > 6:13:05I've got to learn a song, which I don't know very well.

6:13:05 > 6:13:06The dance, I thought I knew,

6:13:06 > 6:13:10and it turns out the easy part is actually the hard part.

6:13:10 > 6:13:13I've got a lot of revision to do tonight.

6:13:13 > 6:13:15The big day is finally here.

6:13:15 > 6:13:17It's time for me to get into my costume.

6:13:17 > 6:13:20And it's not your usual fairy outfit.

6:13:20 > 6:13:23This production is giving Shakespeare a shake-up,

6:13:23 > 6:13:25and going for a more modern look.

6:13:27 > 6:13:30Costume and make-up done, I get to see the stage for the first time.

6:13:30 > 6:13:34Look at this space!

6:13:34 > 6:13:36OK, the nerves have genuinely...

6:13:37 > 6:13:38They've kicked in now.

6:13:40 > 6:13:43While I get ready with the rest of my fairy train...

6:13:43 > 6:13:45- ALL:- Woooo!

6:13:45 > 6:13:46THEY CHEER

6:13:46 > 6:13:47You'll be amazing!

6:13:47 > 6:13:51..the audience take their seats, and the show begins.

6:14:06 > 6:14:07Fairies, away!

6:14:08 > 6:14:11Thou shalt not from this grove!

6:14:11 > 6:14:13I managed to remember all the moves!

6:14:13 > 6:14:14I can't believe it!

6:14:14 > 6:14:17First time on stage, how are we feeling?

6:14:17 > 6:14:19It was awesome!

6:14:19 > 6:14:20Excited!

6:14:20 > 6:14:22- Did you do it?- Yeah!

6:14:22 > 6:14:26We are off to a flying start and feeling great.

6:14:26 > 6:14:29But next up is the song!

6:14:29 > 6:14:31# You spotted snakes with double tongue

6:14:31 > 6:14:36# Thorny hedgehogs, be not seen

6:14:36 > 6:14:38# Newts and blindworms, do no wrong

6:14:38 > 6:14:45# Come not near our fairy queen

6:14:45 > 6:14:50# Philomel, with melody

6:14:50 > 6:14:56# Sing in our sweet lullaby... #

6:14:56 > 6:14:58The audience are loving it.

6:14:58 > 6:15:02But there's one last thing we have to get right.

6:15:02 > 6:15:04Our solo lines.

6:15:04 > 6:15:05Ever shall in safety rest.

6:15:05 > 6:15:08Trip away. Make no stay.

6:15:08 > 6:15:11Meet me all by break of day.

6:15:11 > 6:15:13APPLAUSE AND CHEERING

6:15:15 > 6:15:19Oh, my goodness gracious, I was so nervous out there.

6:15:19 > 6:15:20All of us were.

6:15:20 > 6:15:23We were out three times, and I think we got three out of three.

6:15:23 > 6:15:28400 years on, and Shakespeare's still bringing the house down.

6:15:28 > 6:15:32It's great to see people of all ages loving his work.

6:15:32 > 6:15:33Nice one, Bill!

6:15:35 > 6:15:38I just want to say an enormous thank you to everyone at the RSC

6:15:38 > 6:15:42for being such legends. Shakespeare really is for everyone.

6:15:42 > 6:15:44- It's difficult, though, isn't it? - It's hard.

6:15:44 > 6:15:46- And you did a really, really good job.- Thank you.

6:15:46 > 6:15:48Well done, Radz, I was proud of you. Fellow thespian!

6:15:48 > 6:15:51Now it's time for the moment that you and I have all been waiting for.

6:15:53 > 6:15:55of the Blue Peter sport badge competition.

6:15:55 > 6:15:57This is, quite possibly, my favourite of all

6:15:57 > 6:15:59the Blue Peter competitions I've been involved with,

6:15:59 > 6:16:01because not only do you have to design the badge,

6:16:01 > 6:16:05but that very badge will get given to every single member

6:16:05 > 6:16:08of Team GB who are going to the Olympics.

6:16:08 > 6:16:10- Off the charts! Off the charts. - And you lot at home, our BP crew,

6:16:10 > 6:16:13you really rose to the challenge, because, actually, in the end,

6:16:13 > 6:16:17we had 4,867 entries.

6:16:17 > 6:16:19- APPLAUSE - Yeah! - That's pretty amazing, isn't it?

6:16:19 > 6:16:21You should be really proud of yourselves

6:16:21 > 6:16:22for having a go. Well done.

6:16:22 > 6:16:24I was lucky enough to be on the judging panel,

6:16:24 > 6:16:26and I can assure you, it was a very, very difficult task.

6:16:26 > 6:16:28We deliberated for such a long time,

6:16:28 > 6:16:32but we had to come up with a decision about the winner,

6:16:32 > 6:16:34and that decision was made.

6:16:34 > 6:16:36So, Linds, let's reveal the official runners-up.

6:16:36 > 6:16:40Wow. They are looking incredible. They are so colourful!

6:16:40 > 6:16:43There are some really, really clever ideas here, as well.

6:16:43 > 6:16:44You can see loads of GB flags,

6:16:44 > 6:16:47you can see the Blue Peter logo dotted about everywhere.

6:16:47 > 6:16:51We've even got some parrots and some climbers and some runners.

6:16:51 > 6:16:54It's all there. We're so impressed. And if you can see yours here,

6:16:54 > 6:16:57you have officially earned yourself a Blue Peter orange badge,

6:16:57 > 6:16:59so you should be really, really proud of yourselves.

6:16:59 > 6:17:01- Good job, everyone! - Linds!- Yes?

6:17:01 > 6:17:04- Should we reveal it?- OK.- Now it's time to reveal the top entries

6:17:04 > 6:17:06for each age category.

6:17:06 > 6:17:08Starting with age six to eight-year-olds.

6:17:08 > 6:17:12And, the top entry is...

6:17:13 > 6:17:14..Sam from Stafford!

6:17:14 > 6:17:17- APPLAUSE - Well done, Sam!

6:17:17 > 6:17:20- Wow.- The thing I love most of all about this design is the fact that

6:17:20 > 6:17:24he's really, really captured the idea of it being a British team

6:17:24 > 6:17:27going to a Brazil Olympics, with a gold medal in the middle.

6:17:27 > 6:17:29Fantastic job, Sam, well done.

6:17:36 > 6:17:38..Phoebe from West Sussex!

6:17:38 > 6:17:40- APPLAUSE - Well done!

6:17:40 > 6:17:43Again, we think this one is so clever,

6:17:43 > 6:17:44because you've got your GB flag,

6:17:44 > 6:17:46but in the shape of the Blue Peter ship just behind.

6:17:46 > 6:17:49And on top you have some really amazing colours, here.

6:17:49 > 6:17:50It did really stand out, didn't it, Radzi?

6:17:50 > 6:17:53- Really stands out.- Very, very clever design. Well done, Phoebe.

6:17:53 > 6:17:57So the last top entry for age 12 to 15-year-olds.

6:17:57 > 6:17:59And it is...

6:17:59 > 6:18:01Hettie from Dorset!

6:18:01 > 6:18:05- APPLAUSE - Straight away, it just jumps off the page, doesn't it?

6:18:05 > 6:18:07The way she's manipulated the medals, with the British flag,

6:18:07 > 6:18:09with the Brazilian flag,

6:18:09 > 6:18:10and then having the Blue Peter ship

6:18:10 > 6:18:13taking pride of place on the gold medal, fantastic job.

6:18:13 > 6:18:15Now, of course, it was so tough whittling it down

6:18:15 > 6:18:17from all of these you can see behind us

6:18:17 > 6:18:19to all of these top entries, they were all brilliant.

6:18:19 > 6:18:22But, of course, you know, it's the orange badge,

6:18:22 > 6:18:23there does have to be a winner.

6:18:23 > 6:18:25So, drumroll, please.

6:18:34 > 6:18:36..Sam from Stafford!

6:18:36 > 6:18:38APPLAUSE AND CHEERING

6:18:40 > 6:18:43We really did feel this was a stand-out winner, and, actually,

6:18:43 > 6:18:45Sam is only in the studio right now.

6:18:45 > 6:18:47Will you please give a big welcome to Sam?

6:18:47 > 6:18:48APPLAUSE

6:18:59 > 6:19:00Really happy.

6:19:00 > 6:19:03You look really happy with that big smile on your face.

6:19:03 > 6:19:04So, when you found out you'd won,

6:19:04 > 6:19:06what was going through your head? How were you feeling?

6:19:06 > 6:19:09I was really shocked,

6:19:09 > 6:19:11and really happy.

6:19:11 > 6:19:14I'll bet you were. I applied to many competitions when I was younger

6:19:14 > 6:19:16and I didn't win a single one, so you are awesome.

6:19:16 > 6:19:18Now, let's talk about the design here.

6:19:18 > 6:19:20You haven't seen this before. but this is for you,

6:19:20 > 6:19:25and this is the official computerised design of your badge,

6:19:25 > 6:19:27which is how it will eventually get manufactured.

6:19:27 > 6:19:29What inspired the design?

6:19:30 > 6:19:35Well, I thought, um, of the medal

6:19:35 > 6:19:38as what they might get, and,

6:19:38 > 6:19:44the green and yellow for the Brazil colours.

6:19:44 > 6:19:47You really have done a fantastic job there, Sam.

6:19:47 > 6:19:49I just love the idea that the badge

6:19:49 > 6:19:52the Team GB athletes will be wearing is your badge.

6:19:52 > 6:19:55Not a manufactured... The one you designed!

6:19:55 > 6:19:57What do you think about that?

6:19:57 > 6:20:00- It's amazing! - It is amazing, isn't it?

6:20:00 > 6:20:03And you've a favourite athlete that you can't wait to,

6:20:03 > 6:20:04hopefully, give him his badge.

6:20:04 > 6:20:06Or her badge.

6:20:06 > 6:20:07Tom Daley.

6:20:07 > 6:20:10- Tom Daley, why Tom Daley? - Because he smiles all the time

6:20:10 > 6:20:13and he's really good at what sport he does.

6:20:13 > 6:20:15He absolutely is, I think he might possibly

6:20:15 > 6:20:16be getting himself a gold medal as well.

6:20:16 > 6:20:19But also, what I love is the idea that all the people at home

6:20:19 > 6:20:20will be wearing your badge.

6:20:20 > 6:20:23Thousands of Blue Peter viewers will be wearing your badge.

6:20:23 > 6:20:25- And I know you love Blue Peter. - Yeah.

6:20:25 > 6:20:26Will any of your friends be wearing it?

6:20:26 > 6:20:31A few of them said that they want to get it.

6:20:31 > 6:20:33Well, I'm going to look forward to seeing that.

6:20:33 > 6:20:35And you're a little bit of a celebrity, aren't you?

6:20:35 > 6:20:37Because, as you'll know, if you applied

6:20:37 > 6:20:39or actually tried to design the badge yourself,

6:20:39 > 6:20:40along with designing it,

6:20:40 > 6:20:43you always had to include an inspirational message

6:20:43 > 6:20:46to help inspire people to get behind Team GB.

6:20:46 > 6:20:48Sam did just that, and because of that,

6:20:48 > 6:20:50you got to attend a rather special photoshoot

6:20:50 > 6:20:51with an Olympic gold medallist

6:20:51 > 6:20:54who is also only the IBF World Heavyweight Champion,

6:20:54 > 6:20:55- Anthony Joshua, didn't you?- Yeah.

6:21:02 > 6:21:05- and he's got a really, really loud laugh.- Does he really?

6:21:05 > 6:21:07And a really hard punch, as well.

6:21:07 > 6:21:10- Yeah.- Now, Sam, what would you say if I said to you

6:21:10 > 6:21:12that I told you a porkie pie, possibly,

6:21:12 > 6:21:14about us not having the badge ready yet,

6:21:14 > 6:21:18that, actually, the very first Blue Peter sport badge 2016

6:21:18 > 6:21:21is in my hand right now? Would you like to see it?

6:21:21 > 6:21:23Well, can we have a second drumroll, please?

6:21:23 > 6:21:25DRUMROLL

6:21:25 > 6:21:26Sam...

6:21:27 > 6:21:29..there it is.

6:21:29 > 6:21:31What do you... Can we have a round of applause?

6:21:31 > 6:21:32APPLAUSE

6:21:32 > 6:21:34What do you think of that?

6:21:34 > 6:21:36It's really good!

6:21:36 > 6:21:39You made that! That was you!

6:21:39 > 6:21:40The craft, the detail.

6:21:40 > 6:21:43I think that has just become my favourite

6:21:43 > 6:21:44of all the Blue Peter badges.

6:21:45 > 6:21:47Now, Sam, it is at this point that I say,

6:21:47 > 6:21:50how are you going to earn your one of these?

6:21:50 > 6:21:52Even the winner of a Blue Peter sport badge competition

6:21:52 > 6:21:54doesn't get to keep the badge, you've got to earn it.

6:21:54 > 6:21:56- So what sport are you going to do?- Cricket.

6:21:56 > 6:21:57And who are you going to inspire?

6:21:57 > 6:21:59Uh...
