6:59:55 > 6:59:58- Guys, why is it dark in the studio? - It's pitch-black.
6:59:58 > 7:00:00It has to be. It's for our guests today.
7:00:00 > 7:00:02Yeah, but I can't see them. Where are they?
7:00:02 > 7:00:05- They're behind you! - HE LAUGHS EVILLY
7:00:05 > 7:00:07SHE SCREAMS
7:00:07 > 7:00:09Actually, that is pretty scary.
7:00:26 > 7:00:27CHEERING AND APPLAUSE
7:00:27 > 7:00:29Hello and welcome to live Blue Peter.
7:00:29 > 7:00:32- It's live?- Coming up on today's show, we are going be joined
7:00:32 > 7:00:34by some fantastic lantern puppets.
7:00:34 > 7:00:36Can't wait for that as well.
7:00:36 > 7:00:38Look who's back, it's little Iggy.
7:00:38 > 7:00:40- Hello, Iggs.- Hiya.- Hello.
7:00:42 > 7:00:44Plus, I'll be showing you how to make one of these -
7:00:44 > 7:00:47a Valentine's Day card with a message on the inside.
7:00:47 > 7:00:49Will you be my Valentine?
7:00:49 > 7:00:51Stop asking me to be your Valentine, Radzi, it's weird.
7:00:51 > 7:00:54Although I can't blame him, I am a handsome man.
7:00:54 > 7:00:56Love is in the air, definitely, which means that we would like
7:00:56 > 7:00:58to ask you a question. What do you love?
7:00:58 > 7:01:00What do you love more than anything else?
7:01:00 > 7:01:03It doesn't have to be a person. It can be your grandma, if you want.
7:01:03 > 7:01:05It can Grandma's food, it can be a pet, it could be ice cream
7:01:05 > 7:01:09with kittens on it. Whatever you like, get in touch and let us know.
7:01:09 > 7:01:12- We'll read your comments out at the end of the show.- I love you guys.
7:01:12 > 7:01:14THE GUYS GO "AAAHHHH!" I love you guys!
7:01:14 > 7:01:17Now though, it's time to see the second part
7:01:17 > 7:01:20of a challenge which Barney and I took place in a velodrome.
7:01:20 > 7:01:23It has Sir Chris Hoy - the hero, the legend. Look at it now.
7:01:26 > 7:01:30We are two months into training for our Sport Relief Cycling Challenge
7:01:30 > 7:01:32set by Olympic legend Sir Chris Hoy.
7:01:32 > 7:01:36Your Sport Relief challenge is going to push your cycling abilities
7:01:36 > 7:01:37to the limit.
7:01:37 > 7:01:40And in just a few weeks' time, we'll be going head-to-head
7:01:40 > 7:01:44in a mini-omnium - a combination of three different track cycling races.
7:01:44 > 7:01:45The match sprint,
7:01:45 > 7:01:47the flying lap and the kilo.
7:01:47 > 7:01:49Two more laps, two more laps.
7:01:49 > 7:01:53Today, we're back at the Manchester velodrome to train for all three.
7:01:53 > 7:01:57Joining our coach Charlie are two of the country's best young riders,
7:01:57 > 7:01:58Josh and Tilly.
7:01:58 > 7:02:00So, first up, we need to get you looking around on the bike.
7:02:00 > 7:02:02That's really important for the sprint challenge.
7:02:02 > 7:02:04Although it may sound like it,
7:02:04 > 7:02:08the sprint race isn't actually always about speed.
7:02:08 > 7:02:10Riders use different tactics.
7:02:10 > 7:02:12Some try and force their opponent up the track
7:02:12 > 7:02:15to make it harder for them to overtake.
7:02:15 > 7:02:18While others hang back before unleashing a surprise attack
7:02:18 > 7:02:20with a burst of speed.
7:02:20 > 7:02:22Charlie now wants Radzi and me to ride around the track,
7:02:22 > 7:02:24keeping an eye on our partners at all the times,
7:02:24 > 7:02:27which is very difficult, cos we've got to look over our shoulders,
7:02:27 > 7:02:29whilst looking forwards to see where we're going.
7:02:29 > 7:02:31This is going to be fun.
7:02:34 > 7:02:36To begin with, it feels really unnatural.
7:02:36 > 7:02:40All I want to do is keep my eyes on the track in front of me.
7:02:40 > 7:02:43OK, Where is he, Radzi? Where is he? Look for him.
7:02:43 > 7:02:45Where is he? Can you see him?
7:02:45 > 7:02:49No, Charlie, I can't see him, cos I'm too scared of falling off.
7:02:49 > 7:02:51I'm finding this so hard.
7:02:52 > 7:02:55Well, you know, that's a shame, Radzi, because I am loving it.
7:02:55 > 7:02:57Barney, the match sprinter, look at this!
7:02:57 > 7:03:01But just as I get the hang of it, disaster strikes.
7:03:01 > 7:03:03Something's not right.
7:03:03 > 7:03:05I've got a flat, Charlie.
7:03:05 > 7:03:06I've got a puncture.
7:03:06 > 7:03:10Oh, no, that's a 'wheel' shame, Barney. Heh-heh-heh!
7:03:10 > 7:03:13Meanwhile, Radzi's getting loads of training time and I'm not.
7:03:13 > 7:03:14I'm not having a good day.
7:03:14 > 7:03:16Come on, Radzi, move it around.
7:03:16 > 7:03:18Come on, up, up, up.
7:03:18 > 7:03:21Yeah, I think that might be flat.
7:03:21 > 7:03:23Go, Radzi. That's it.
7:03:26 > 7:03:28Come in next time.
7:03:28 > 7:03:31Bike repaired, let's get back to training.
7:03:32 > 7:03:37So next, Charlie wants us to cycle around the perimeter fence,
7:03:37 > 7:03:39but that's all the way up there.
7:03:40 > 7:03:45The corners of the track are at a terrifying 42-degree angle.
7:03:45 > 7:03:47Charlie, is it really vital?
7:03:47 > 7:03:49It is really vital for the flying lap,
7:03:49 > 7:03:51but it is also really good fun.
7:03:51 > 7:03:54The flying lap is all about going as fast as you possibly can.
7:03:54 > 7:03:57Cyclists drop down from the top of the track and they start their
7:03:57 > 7:04:01quick lap and this allows them to reach speeds of over 50mph.
7:04:03 > 7:04:06Starting from the bottom, we follow Josh and Tilly round,
7:04:06 > 7:04:09gradually making our way higher and higher.
7:04:09 > 7:04:10Go higher, Josh.
7:04:10 > 7:04:12We are going absolutely flat out
7:04:12 > 7:04:14trying to keep up with Josh and Tilly.
7:04:14 > 7:04:16This is the fastest we've ridden around this track,
7:04:16 > 7:04:18and it feels amazing.
7:04:18 > 7:04:19Go on, Radzi!
7:04:19 > 7:04:22It does, Barn, but it's also incredibly difficult.
7:04:22 > 7:04:25I'm really struggling to get to the top, unlike you.
7:04:25 > 7:04:26You're flying.
7:04:28 > 7:04:31I might be, but my legs are burning.
7:04:31 > 7:04:33It is so hard to stay up here.
7:04:35 > 7:04:36That is so tiring.
7:04:36 > 7:04:39That's probably the hardest thing I've done yet.
7:04:39 > 7:04:43But what do our training partners Josh and Tilly make of our progress?
7:04:43 > 7:04:46I definitely think that you've improved throughout the session.
7:04:46 > 7:04:49You are a lot more confident riding further up the track.
7:04:49 > 7:04:52Barney has got loads of confidence moving around the track,
7:04:52 > 7:04:54but you've got more speed.
7:04:54 > 7:04:56Use this is your secret weapon.
7:04:56 > 7:04:59Oh, yes!
7:04:59 > 7:05:01Ho-ho-ho-ho!
7:05:03 > 7:05:06Our final session is all about our time trial race -
7:05:06 > 7:05:07the kilo,
7:05:07 > 7:05:10where two riders start from opposite sides of the track
7:05:10 > 7:05:12and try to catch each other up.
7:05:12 > 7:05:14Getting the best possible start is vital.
7:05:14 > 7:05:18So that's why cyclists use something called a start gate.
7:05:18 > 7:05:22And Charlie has lined up an absolute legend to show us how to use it.
7:05:22 > 7:05:25The man who revealed our Sport Relief challenge,
7:05:25 > 7:05:29six-time Olympic gold medallist, Sir Chris Hoy.
7:05:29 > 7:05:32It is such an honour to meet you. Thank you very much for being here.
7:05:32 > 7:05:34It is a pleasure. Great to be here.
7:05:34 > 7:05:35This is the start gate.
7:05:35 > 7:05:37It is just a means of holding you up at the start
7:05:37 > 7:05:39and releasing you bang-on zero.
7:05:39 > 7:05:41So you need good technique
7:05:41 > 7:05:43and you need a lot of power to get out cleanly.
7:05:43 > 7:05:45- Can we give it a go? - Let's do it, yeah.
7:05:46 > 7:05:50- First of all, you will hear a beep at ten seconds.- Yeah.
7:05:50 > 7:05:51Then the beeps start again
7:05:51 > 7:05:54at five, four, three, two, one and then zero.
7:05:54 > 7:05:57You want to go bang-on the zero.
7:05:57 > 7:06:01You want to start by gripping the bars with your arms straight.
7:06:01 > 7:06:06Weight back and then you only lunge forward when you get to zero.
7:06:06 > 7:06:08And give it everything, the front leg really pushing down
7:06:08 > 7:06:10and the back leg pulling up.
7:06:10 > 7:06:14- Shall we try one?- Let's go for it. - Go on, Barn.
7:06:14 > 7:06:16I have instant butterflies.
7:06:23 > 7:06:24Go on, Barn.
7:06:24 > 7:06:26Yeah!
7:06:26 > 7:06:28You nailed it, Barney. Now it's my turn.
7:06:37 > 7:06:40And the more times we practise, the more natural it becomes.
7:06:43 > 7:06:46Can you give us some idea of how you felt with your first gate start?
7:06:46 > 7:06:51I was about 14 or 15 and I just remember coming out the gate
7:06:51 > 7:06:53and wobbling left, going right off the track,
7:06:53 > 7:06:55on to the grass, almost fell off.
7:06:55 > 7:06:58So, compared to what you guys did today, it wasn't even close.
7:06:58 > 7:07:01We were lucky enough to train with Josh and Tilly
7:07:01 > 7:07:03and I'd never have known, just having cycled on the streets
7:07:03 > 7:07:05of Wolverhampton, that it can be this much fun.
7:07:05 > 7:07:07How can people at home get involved in cycling?
7:07:07 > 7:07:10You don't have to do velodrome racing but it is...
7:07:10 > 7:07:13I'm biased, I think it's the best form of bike racing.
7:07:13 > 7:07:15But you join your local cycling club,
7:07:15 > 7:07:16meet other people that enjoy it too.
7:07:16 > 7:07:19Have fun with it, but if they have that desire to continue,
7:07:19 > 7:07:21they want to progress and become Olympic champions,
7:07:21 > 7:07:23it is that first step on the pathway
7:07:23 > 7:07:25towards winning an Olympic gold medal.
7:07:25 > 7:07:27- Chris, thank you very much. - Thank you.- See you on the day.
7:07:27 > 7:07:30Yeah, good luck, guys. Rest up, keep the legs fresh and good luck.
7:07:30 > 7:07:32- Amazing. Chocolate?- Yeah.
7:07:34 > 7:07:37Next week, all the sweat...
7:07:37 > 7:07:38All the pedalling...
7:07:38 > 7:07:40..comes down to just three races.
7:07:40 > 7:07:44Who will win for Sport Relief 2016?
7:07:44 > 7:07:47Find out only on Blue Peter.
7:07:49 > 7:07:51Man, I've met Sir Chris Hoy!
7:07:51 > 7:07:56Chris Hoy is the nicest guy in the world, ever.
7:07:56 > 7:07:58- Ever!- Next week, make sure you're watching the finale
7:07:58 > 7:08:00of our Sport Relief Cycling Challenge.
7:08:00 > 7:08:02If you are getting involved in Sport Relief,
7:08:02 > 7:08:05why not tell us all about it by putting it on a sweaty sock,
7:08:05 > 7:08:07for example? That'd be good wouldn't it?
7:08:07 > 7:08:10That's because it is our Sport Relief send-in. We want you to
7:08:10 > 7:08:13send in your sweaty socks and some have you have already done that.
7:08:13 > 7:08:16How do I know? Because of our sock map. I'm going to call it the Sap,
7:08:16 > 7:08:17cos it combines a sock and a map.
7:08:17 > 7:08:20Down here, we can see London and we've already got dots there
7:08:20 > 7:08:23cos you've already sent in socks. Up in Sheffield, same story there.
7:08:23 > 7:08:26But ideally, we'd like this sock to be covered in your spots.
7:08:26 > 7:08:29And how do you do that? Well, I'm going to pick up this template
7:08:29 > 7:08:32and explain to you now, cos all you have to do is jump on
7:08:32 > 7:08:35to the Blue Peter website, print this thing out, cut out the sock,
7:08:35 > 7:08:38decorate it, then send it to us and tell us what you're doing
7:08:38 > 7:08:40to raise money for this year's Sport Relief.
7:08:40 > 7:08:42You're very good at this, Radzi.
7:08:42 > 7:08:44So, some people have sent some stuff in already.
7:08:44 > 7:08:45We've got Sophie from Woking.
7:08:45 > 7:08:48She's designed... Oh, I touched it, my fingers are going to smell now.
7:08:48 > 7:08:51This is to say that she is swimming and cycling for Sport Relief.
7:08:51 > 7:08:53Good on you, Soph. This is Iman, who's helping his school
7:08:53 > 7:08:55to raise money. Well done, we love that.
7:08:55 > 7:08:57Very nice pictures of me, Sophie and Radzi as well.
7:08:57 > 7:09:00Me, Sophie? I said, me, Sophie then. I meant me, Lindsey.
7:09:00 > 7:09:03We reckon we could probably make a Sport Relief mile
7:09:03 > 7:09:05out of all these sweaty socks. We're going to need about 6,000.
7:09:05 > 7:09:08That's quite a lot. And you've only got until Friday 11th March
7:09:08 > 7:09:10to get them sent in. Also, take an adult,
7:09:10 > 7:09:12grab them by the ears and take them over to the computer
7:09:12 > 7:09:14and sign up for the Sport Relief Games.
7:09:14 > 7:09:15Don't grab them by the ears.
7:09:15 > 7:09:18Get involved. There's lots of things to do around the UK.
7:09:18 > 7:09:21- It's going to be fun. What are you doing?- I'm excited!
7:09:21 > 7:09:25- Why?- Cos I've just remembered - we've got our sport competition.
7:09:25 > 7:09:27You OK?
7:09:28 > 7:09:31Our sport badge - thousands of you have one
7:09:31 > 7:09:34and many of the world's top sports stars wear it with pride.
7:09:34 > 7:09:37For this year's badge, we've got together with Team GB
7:09:37 > 7:09:40for an amazing new Blue Peter competition.
7:09:40 > 7:09:43What's so special about it? Over to superstar Team GB gymnast,
7:09:43 > 7:09:45Beth Tweddle.
7:09:45 > 7:09:47This one is going to be designed by one of you.
7:09:47 > 7:09:50Your design on one of these!
7:09:50 > 7:09:52This is huge news.
7:09:52 > 7:09:54Plus, there's more.
7:09:54 > 7:09:57It is also going to be given to every Team GB athlete
7:09:57 > 7:09:59that's heading out to Rio this summer.
7:09:59 > 7:10:03And we also want you to write our athletes an inspirational message.
7:10:03 > 7:10:06Let's get them motivated.
7:10:06 > 7:10:10Oh, and this will be used in a very cool way.
7:10:10 > 7:10:11Trust me.
7:10:11 > 7:10:15So, get creating the new badge design and inspirational messages
7:10:15 > 7:10:17and tell us which Team GB athlete
7:10:17 > 7:10:19inspires you.
7:10:19 > 7:10:20All the details are on
7:10:20 > 7:10:21the Blue Peter website.
7:10:21 > 7:10:23Get designing.
7:10:24 > 7:10:27- Thanks, Beth.- Thanks, Beth. We're having a little cuddle with Iggy.
7:10:27 > 7:10:30- We've missed Iggy.- Get designing and we should say get well soon to Beth
7:10:30 > 7:10:31cos she's hurt her neck.
7:10:31 > 7:10:33Let's talk about how you print out the application form.
7:10:33 > 7:10:36Go to the Blue Peter website...
7:10:36 > 7:10:37..and you'll print one of these off.
7:10:37 > 7:10:40It's actually obvious what you need to do when you see the form.
7:10:40 > 7:10:43Everything's in red that's really important.
7:10:43 > 7:10:45So, that's the side that you fill your details in on.
7:10:45 > 7:10:48The next page is the BP Shield.
7:10:48 > 7:10:51What you've got to do is keep your design inside this shield, please.
7:10:51 > 7:10:54Leave a little message on there, as well as your design,
7:10:54 > 7:10:57telling us which Team GB athlete inspired you to get involved.
7:10:57 > 7:11:00And then it is your turn to give an inspirational message.
7:11:00 > 7:11:03At the back, it says write an inspirational message to motivate
7:11:03 > 7:11:05every member of Team GB in the box below.
7:11:05 > 7:11:08Imagine that you are their coach and stick that in there.
7:11:08 > 7:11:10Nice, I like that.
7:11:10 > 7:11:13Once you've done it, you need to send it to the following address.
7:11:21 > 7:11:23Yes, you did it! Well played, high-five for that.
7:11:23 > 7:11:25I normally save those for Radzi.
7:11:25 > 7:11:28It does tell you on the application form when the details have to be in.
7:11:28 > 7:11:31You have to make sure everything is sent by 12 noon
7:11:31 > 7:11:33on Tuesday 23rd February 2016.
7:11:33 > 7:11:35And you have to be aged between 6-15 at that time,
7:11:35 > 7:11:37otherwise, it won't count.
7:11:37 > 7:11:40All the details and the terms and conditions and all that stuff is on
7:11:40 > 7:11:43the Blue Peter website. Get an adult to sign the important stuff.
7:11:43 > 7:11:45That's all you need to know so make sure you get involved
7:11:45 > 7:11:47and get designing.
7:11:47 > 7:11:50I'm very excited because it is Valentine's Day soon.
7:11:50 > 7:11:52Normally, we get each other red roses, don't we?
7:11:52 > 7:11:55All three of us. It's really lovely. But this year...
7:11:55 > 7:11:57- Have you not got me anything? - I know what you just did.
7:11:57 > 7:12:01This year, Radzi's got something even better. Have a look.
7:12:01 > 7:12:03I forgot about the red roses but I've got this -
7:12:03 > 7:12:05a lovely Valentine's Day card.
7:12:05 > 7:12:08And this is all you need in order to make it.
7:12:08 > 7:12:12You require two sheets of A4 card, one sheet of gold card,
7:12:12 > 7:12:15a ruler, scissors, glue and some decorations.
7:12:15 > 7:12:17So, let's get crack-a-lacking.
7:12:17 > 7:12:20The very first thing I'll do is I'll take that red piece of A4 card
7:12:20 > 7:12:22and then I'm going to draw a rectangle on it.
7:12:22 > 7:12:24In fact, I've already done just that.
7:12:24 > 7:12:26Along the width, I've got 8cms
7:12:26 > 7:12:28and along the length, it is 16cms.
7:12:28 > 7:12:33I'm just now going to draw another rectangle exactly the same size.
7:12:33 > 7:12:37What I would say about this is, it's really, really important
7:12:37 > 7:12:42to make sure that you're as accurate as it is possible to be.
7:12:42 > 7:12:44It is all about folding and it is quite tricky,
7:12:44 > 7:12:47so although it might look simple, really be precise if you can.
7:12:47 > 7:12:50Then I'm going to cut out these rectangles here, like so.
7:12:50 > 7:12:53I'm going to go along. Please, take more time than I will here.
7:12:53 > 7:12:56And once you've gone along all the lines, and done the same
7:12:56 > 7:12:58on the other card, you will then have four rectangles,
7:12:58 > 7:13:02which look something like these here.
7:13:02 > 7:13:04So I'll take one of those now
7:13:04 > 7:13:09and I'm going to carefully fold each edge into the middle.
7:13:09 > 7:13:13As I said before about being precise, just make sure
7:13:13 > 7:13:18that your edges do not overlap and they do not underlap either.
7:13:18 > 7:13:19I'm really going to make sure
7:13:19 > 7:13:21I crease those edges,
7:13:21 > 7:13:24and I'm actually even going to fold them to give them free movement
7:13:24 > 7:13:26on both sides.
7:13:26 > 7:13:30A way to be super-duper precise is to measure 4cms in from the edge -
7:13:30 > 7:13:35you can see I can do that there - and 4cms in from the other side.
7:13:35 > 7:13:37That way, you can be super-accurate.
7:13:37 > 7:13:39But I've sort of cheated, but it still works the same.
7:13:39 > 7:13:42Then I take another one of these rectangles which I've already folded
7:13:42 > 7:13:44in exactly the same way.
7:13:44 > 7:13:48I'm going to put a splodge of glue on each of the corners.
7:13:48 > 7:13:50That's probably the only bit you don't need to be precise on,
7:13:50 > 7:13:53is the splodge of glue. If you've got double-sided sticky tape,
7:13:53 > 7:13:55that works just as well.
7:13:55 > 7:13:57So then I'll take the two remaining rectangles,
7:13:57 > 7:13:58I'm going to turn them
7:13:58 > 7:14:0190 degrees and stick them down here.
7:14:01 > 7:14:04And again, try and be as precise as you can,
7:14:04 > 7:14:07making sure all the edges and the corners line up.
7:14:07 > 7:14:09I'm sure you will do a much better job than I'm doing,
7:14:09 > 7:14:12I'm rushing through this so you can see how to make it.
7:14:12 > 7:14:15Once you've done that and you've let the glue dry,
7:14:15 > 7:14:17you'll then have the mechanism ready.
7:14:17 > 7:14:20You can see, it's really beginning to take shape here.
7:14:20 > 7:14:22So - it's a Valentine's Day card,
7:14:22 > 7:14:24so I think we need a heart, let's make something
7:14:24 > 7:14:27which symbolises love. So we'll put a heart here...
7:14:28 > 7:14:30I'll cut that down the middle, like so,
7:14:30 > 7:14:32and I'll stick this
7:14:32 > 7:14:34in the middle, just there.
7:14:34 > 7:14:38And exactly the same on the other side.
7:14:38 > 7:14:40And now it comes to the message, and for me,
7:14:40 > 7:14:43this card's special cos you can write any message that you want.
7:14:43 > 7:14:46I'm going to go for, "Will you be my Valentine?"
7:14:46 > 7:14:47My writing isn't that neat,
7:14:47 > 7:14:50so I'm going to go to the finished one here.
7:14:50 > 7:14:53But - here comes a super top tip.
7:14:53 > 7:14:55Cos you can see I've got here,
7:14:55 > 7:14:56"Will you..."
7:14:56 > 7:14:59You can do that in pen, paint, however you want to do,
7:14:59 > 7:15:01but if you look here,
7:15:01 > 7:15:03there is a square,
7:15:03 > 7:15:05which you can see in the folds -
7:15:05 > 7:15:07that's where you keep your message in.
7:15:07 > 7:15:09So as I open it up again,
7:15:09 > 7:15:10"Be my..."
7:15:10 > 7:15:14is still inside that magic square.
7:15:14 > 7:15:16And then I'm going to turn this inside,
7:15:16 > 7:15:20and like I say you can write it with pen, with pencil, whatever you like,
7:15:20 > 7:15:22and the "Valentine" is the last of the message,
7:15:22 > 7:15:26so that can actually go over the square.
7:15:26 > 7:15:29Sounds a little complicated - it isn't.
7:15:29 > 7:15:30All the details are on the website.
7:15:35 > 7:15:38You don't even need to make it specific to Valentine's Day.
7:15:38 > 7:15:40I love loads of occasions, any excuse to give somebody a card,
7:15:40 > 7:15:43so here, we've got my favourite team Arsenal in their red and white
7:15:43 > 7:15:45with a football at the front.
7:15:45 > 7:15:49We've got a teddy bear here, with buttons on the outside.
7:15:49 > 7:15:53All different decorations - we've even made a border on one.
7:15:53 > 7:15:56Use your imagination, you Blue Peter viewers are so creative,
7:15:56 > 7:15:57you are so ingenuitive.
7:15:57 > 7:15:59So, whatever you want to make,
7:15:59 > 7:16:02please give it a jolly good old go.
7:16:02 > 7:16:04And now all that's left for me to say is -
7:16:04 > 7:16:06Barney...
7:16:06 > 7:16:07will you...
7:16:07 > 7:16:09be...
7:16:09 > 7:16:12my...Valentine?
7:16:12 > 7:16:15It is really clever, Radz, but I've said it once,
7:16:15 > 7:16:17I've said it twice, I will not be your Valentine...
7:16:17 > 7:16:19- Aww!- ..you weirdo.
7:16:19 > 7:16:20No, don't be like that.
7:16:20 > 7:16:22I'm only kidding, I love Radzi.
7:16:22 > 7:16:25Come and give us a cuddle so that everyone knows.
7:16:25 > 7:16:26While they hug it out,
7:16:26 > 7:16:30have a look at this week's Big Badge Wall, it looks incredible -
7:16:30 > 7:16:32all of your post has been brilliant,
7:16:32 > 7:16:35you've all been earning your own BP badges. Well done.
7:16:35 > 7:16:36Tallulah, who's 11, from Glasgow -
7:16:36 > 7:16:39Iggy, this one's for you.
7:16:39 > 7:16:41She's done a little portrait there of Iggy -
7:16:41 > 7:16:45she yawns like that sometimes during the show. Don't you, Iggs?
7:16:45 > 7:16:48Freddie from Surrey has designed this
7:16:48 > 7:16:51based on the unicycling guys that we had in a few weeks ago
7:16:51 > 7:16:53doing their amazing tricks.
7:16:53 > 7:16:55He's done Lindsey on a unicycle here.
7:16:55 > 7:16:57It's all springy as well. We love 3D pictures,
7:16:57 > 7:16:59send us more 3D stuff, stuff that comes off the page.
7:16:59 > 7:17:01You can see here that I'm holding Iggy the dog
7:17:01 > 7:17:05and for some reason we've got Tracy Chapman in the corner.
7:17:05 > 7:17:07We love it, it's amazing.
7:17:07 > 7:17:10Now, my mum will absolutely love this -
7:17:10 > 7:17:14you might remember a few weeks ago we had Carol Kirkwood on the show,
7:17:14 > 7:17:16talking about green screen.
7:17:16 > 7:17:19And there I am! What am I saying but
7:17:19 > 7:17:20"Mum, I can disappear!"
7:17:20 > 7:17:23Josie from Norfolk recreated that.
7:17:23 > 7:17:25You are really laughing, aren't you, Linds?
7:17:25 > 7:17:27It might have been a little jokey-jokey that Barney said.
7:17:27 > 7:17:32But look at this picture here. It says, "Mum, I can disappear!"
7:17:32 > 7:17:35Which means my mum's name has now been on Blue Peter. Hey, Mum.
7:17:35 > 7:17:37- Radzi's mum's so cool. - Thank you, Josie.
7:17:37 > 7:17:39Compose myself for a second.
7:17:39 > 7:17:42You may remember that we made some pancakes last week.
7:17:42 > 7:17:44Well, Charlie, who's eight, had a go as well,
7:17:44 > 7:17:47he's looking pretty good there. Very proud of his pancakes.
7:17:47 > 7:17:49And so should Josie be,
7:17:49 > 7:17:51who's nine, because she made this.
7:17:51 > 7:17:54It says, "I Love Pancakes." You can see all the BP pancakes here,
7:17:54 > 7:17:56and Radzi's won, he's very big,
7:17:56 > 7:17:59and I look really stroppy that Radzi's won.
7:17:59 > 7:18:01And I was, cos erm...
7:18:01 > 7:18:03- Well, mine was rubbish.- Yeah!
7:18:03 > 7:18:05Keep your stuff coming in, we love to hear from you -
7:18:05 > 7:18:08if you can see your picture on this wall, you get a Blue Peter badge.
7:18:08 > 7:18:10If you want one, send us some stuff.
7:18:10 > 7:18:12And we should say that if you get a Blue Peter badge,
7:18:12 > 7:18:14you can get into over 200 attractions
7:18:14 > 7:18:16across the UK - ready...
7:18:16 > 7:18:18- BARNEY AND RADZI:- ..for free.
7:18:18 > 7:18:19Wow, that was worse than ever.
7:18:19 > 7:18:23But make sure you head online for all the details.
7:18:23 > 7:18:26On last week's show, Radzi was crowned pancake champion 2016
7:18:26 > 7:18:29for this beautiful pancake, that looked a little bit like him.
7:18:29 > 7:18:32I thought I'd go one better than that, and try and race with one.
7:18:32 > 7:18:35I'm so sorry about this... but here it is.
7:18:38 > 7:18:40The Olney Pancake Race
7:18:40 > 7:18:43is said to date back to 1445,
7:18:43 > 7:18:44when a local housewife
7:18:44 > 7:18:46was so busy making pancakes
7:18:46 > 7:18:48she forgot to deliver any
7:18:48 > 7:18:49to the nearby church,
7:18:49 > 7:18:51and was spotted
7:18:51 > 7:18:52charging down the high street
7:18:52 > 7:18:54pan and pancake in hand.
7:18:56 > 7:18:58And here we are, some 600 years later,
7:18:58 > 7:19:00and they're still doing it.
7:19:00 > 7:19:01They love it around here.
7:19:05 > 7:19:07The rules of the race are simple.
7:19:07 > 7:19:10Runners must carry their pancake in their pan at all times.
7:19:10 > 7:19:14And the guys around here have had plenty of practice.
7:19:15 > 7:19:18What's your favourite thing about the race?
7:19:18 > 7:19:20I like eating the pancakes at the end.
7:19:20 > 7:19:24- Do you get to eat them?- Yeah. If there are some left in the pan.
7:19:24 > 7:19:26So, if you were to give me three top tips
7:19:26 > 7:19:28on how to run the race, what would the three tips be?
7:19:28 > 7:19:31- Get a good start.- Get a good start?
7:19:31 > 7:19:33Make sure you're listening to the bell.
7:19:33 > 7:19:36- Don't look sideways. - Don't look sideways?- Slows you down.
7:19:36 > 7:19:39OK. So listen for the bell, don't look sideways,
7:19:39 > 7:19:42get a good start and when it comes to flipping,
7:19:42 > 7:19:44both feet off the ground.
7:19:44 > 7:19:45A round of applause,
7:19:45 > 7:19:49that's got to be one of the best flips I've seen for a long time.
7:19:49 > 7:19:51Cheque's in the post.
7:19:52 > 7:19:54There is another rule, though. For the adults' race,
7:19:54 > 7:19:57all the runners must be from the town, and must be women.
7:19:58 > 7:20:01As I'm neither from the town OR a woman,
7:20:01 > 7:20:05that means I obviously won't be taking part. Which is bad news.
7:20:05 > 7:20:07Oh. Oh, hang on...
7:20:07 > 7:20:09I know what's coming next.
7:20:09 > 7:20:11No. No, no, I'm drawing the line at that -
7:20:11 > 7:20:14I've dressed up as loads of things on Blue Peter before,
7:20:14 > 7:20:15but I'm not dressing up as a woman.
7:20:15 > 7:20:18Read my lips. No w...
7:20:18 > 7:20:21# I'm not a girl
7:20:24 > 7:20:27# Not yet a woman
7:20:31 > 7:20:34# All I need is time
7:20:34 > 7:20:36# A moment that is... #
7:20:36 > 7:20:37MUSIC STOPS
7:20:37 > 7:20:40We're not talking about this ever again.
7:20:40 > 7:20:42I'm calling my agent.
7:20:44 > 7:20:46I'll be taking on the 400-and-a-bit-metre course
7:20:46 > 7:20:50along the High Street to the church, against the rest of the field.
7:20:50 > 7:20:53And some of the women here take it very seriously.
7:20:53 > 7:20:55The all-time record
7:20:55 > 7:20:58is a staggering 55 seconds.
7:20:58 > 7:21:02That's almost as fast as they run at the Olympics!
7:21:05 > 7:21:09A quick toss of our pancakes and we're off!
7:21:11 > 7:21:13The pace is frighteningly fast.
7:21:13 > 7:21:17It might look like a bit of fun, but this lot are not messing about.
7:21:19 > 7:21:20Which is great.
7:21:20 > 7:21:22But when you're wearing a wig, a dress
7:21:22 > 7:21:24and trying to keep hold of a pancake,
7:21:24 > 7:21:26it makes it pretty tricky to keep up.
7:21:29 > 7:21:31By the time I cross the finish line,
7:21:31 > 7:21:33I'm just pleased I've still got my pancake.
7:21:33 > 7:21:34Yes!
7:21:35 > 7:21:39I've had a great time. But it is hungry work.
7:21:39 > 7:21:42- Well done, Barney.- Thanks, mate.
7:21:42 > 7:21:44So there you have it.
7:21:44 > 7:21:47A pancake race, done. It's really good fun.
7:21:47 > 7:21:50I can't believe how fast they were at the front. They were so quick.
7:21:50 > 7:21:51- Excuse me, Barney.- Hi.
7:21:51 > 7:21:53Can we have our pancake back, please?
7:21:53 > 7:21:55Um...
7:21:55 > 7:21:58I think I dropped it back there. There's your pan, though.
7:21:58 > 7:22:00- But, yeah, if you go that way, you'll probably find it.- Thank you.
7:22:00 > 7:22:02Find it over there.
7:22:03 > 7:22:06Now I know why Radzi wants me to be his Valentine.
7:22:06 > 7:22:07It all makes sense.
7:22:07 > 7:22:09It was gross that, wasn't it?
7:22:09 > 7:22:12Anyway, let's dim the lights, please, not so we can't see my face
7:22:12 > 7:22:15but instead we can see these incredible giant lantern puppets.
7:22:15 > 7:22:16Aren't they amazing?
7:22:19 > 7:22:23Being beautifully and skilfully puppeteered by Chris and Colin here.
7:22:23 > 7:22:26And then we have a light-up plant with Joe inside it
7:22:26 > 7:22:27over in the back.
7:22:28 > 7:22:30And if we invite our other Jo into the studio...
7:22:30 > 7:22:33Hi, Jo. Welcome. Let's talk about these guys. They're amazing.
7:22:33 > 7:22:36Where did they come from? How did the idea get started?
7:22:36 > 7:22:40So, originally, the spider was made for a show in a zoo.
7:22:40 > 7:22:44We've got a new festival coming up, called Luminous Landscapes,
7:22:44 > 7:22:47which is all about the environment and a festival of light.
7:22:47 > 7:22:50So next week he's going to be appearing at our new festival.
7:22:50 > 7:22:53Amazing. One of my favourite things about Blue Peter
7:22:53 > 7:22:56is that we get involved with, well, everything if we can.
7:22:56 > 7:22:58I would love to put the spider costume on. Is that possible?
7:22:58 > 7:23:01- Absolutely.- Amazing. I know Lindsey will be getting ready
7:23:01 > 7:23:03as a flamingo in a minute. Hi, Colin. You all right?
7:23:03 > 7:23:06Ooh, hello! You're going to get me into the...sort of, the straps
7:23:06 > 7:23:07and talk me through what's happening.
7:23:07 > 7:23:09While this is happening, by the way,
7:23:09 > 7:23:11I can guarantee that, next week on the show,
7:23:11 > 7:23:13cos our audience are so amazing, they will be sending us
7:23:13 > 7:23:15little spiders that they've made themselves.
7:23:15 > 7:23:17Can you talk us through what it's made from,
7:23:17 > 7:23:19so they've got a bit of inspiration?
7:23:19 > 7:23:21So this spider, his legs are made out of foam tubes.
7:23:21 > 7:23:24Then they're wrapped in bubble wrap
7:23:24 > 7:23:27and we've used a clear tape to stick it all together.
7:23:27 > 7:23:29- There's some drinking straws in there...- Yeah.
7:23:29 > 7:23:32..some bamboo, some string, elastic.
7:23:32 > 7:23:34You know, lots of quite normal materials,
7:23:34 > 7:23:37- but the skill is how you put them together.- Sure.
7:23:37 > 7:23:39So if you wanted to make one at home,
7:23:39 > 7:23:42just a bit of bubble wrap and some pipe cleaners, that kind of thing.
7:23:42 > 7:23:46- Yep.- Amazing. All right, Colin, now that I'm strapped in...nearly,
7:23:46 > 7:23:50I guess that these front two sticks here are to move the front legs.
7:23:50 > 7:23:52- Yeah.- There's some strings here as well. How do you work them?
7:23:52 > 7:23:54- If you move these up and down... - Yeah?
7:23:54 > 7:23:57Like, you can reach and, like, tickle things.
7:23:57 > 7:23:58- LAUGHING:- OK.
7:23:58 > 7:23:59And then this makes the head...
7:23:59 > 7:24:02- Like, the handlebars on the back are for the head to turn.- OK.
7:24:02 > 7:24:04And then these strings do the mandibles,
7:24:04 > 7:24:06- which are like the spider's teeth. - The spider's teeth. OK.
7:24:06 > 7:24:08Well, how about if I eat you? Shall we try this?
7:24:08 > 7:24:11I'm going to eat you now. OK, so here come the legs.
