6:00:34 > 6:00:36Today's Blue Peter is all about space,

6:00:36 > 6:00:39so I've come up to the cosmos for a bit of peace and quiet.

6:00:39 > 6:00:42Radzi, really? That's not even believable!

6:00:42 > 6:00:44Linds, you're right. It really is calm up here.

6:00:44 > 6:00:46- Wait, Radz, if you're here...- Yeah?

6:00:46 > 6:00:47..then who's that?

6:00:47 > 6:00:48- Aargh!- Run!

6:01:03 > 6:01:05CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

6:01:05 > 6:01:07- BOTH:- Hello.

6:01:07 > 6:01:10Welcome to this live Blue Peter space spectacular,

6:01:10 > 6:01:12with so much intergalactic goodness, you won't believe it.

6:01:12 > 6:01:15Nicely said. Check this out - there is so much

6:01:15 > 6:01:17coming up on today's show!

6:01:17 > 6:01:18There I am in slow-mo,

6:01:18 > 6:01:22about to take on an incredible Blue Peter space challenge.

6:01:22 > 6:01:25Tim Peake will be landing to Earth very, very soon,

6:01:25 > 6:01:27so to tell us about his out-of-this-world adventure

6:01:27 > 6:01:30is space expert Libby Jackson.

6:01:30 > 6:01:33As well as that, we are joined by another friend in the studio.

6:01:33 > 6:01:34Kelvin Jones is going to be here

6:01:34 > 6:01:37with a brilliant starry-eyed performance.

6:01:37 > 6:01:39And we are live, so we want to hear from you.

6:01:39 > 6:01:42I've got a question for you - if you could blast off into space

6:01:42 > 6:01:45and only take one thing, what would it be and why?

6:01:45 > 6:01:47- And why?- Jump onto the Blue Peter...

6:01:47 > 6:01:50- You forgot! And why? - We'll go again.- BOTH:- And why?

6:01:50 > 6:01:52Jump onto the Blue Peter website, leave a comment

6:01:52 > 6:01:54and we'll read as many as we can.

6:01:54 > 6:01:56However, I also want to talk about this young lady.

6:01:56 > 6:01:59- Where did she come from?- My back is where she came from. Shelley.

6:01:59 > 6:02:02Where's she? She ain't here any more. You've got to find her.

6:02:02 > 6:02:04- You got to find her. - Jump on the fan club to let us know.

6:02:04 > 6:02:07Speaking of Shelley, have a look at this little 3D Shelley.

6:02:07 > 6:02:11You may remember that last week you chose to send her into space.

6:02:11 > 6:02:13- That actual one?- You can hold her. She's been into space.

6:02:13 > 6:02:16Touch her. How amazing is that?

6:02:16 > 6:02:19So, we are so excited by that, that the moment is here.

6:02:19 > 6:02:21Leah from Newsround went to see

6:02:21 > 6:02:23where she landed on her incredible journey.

6:02:26 > 6:02:30I'm in Sheffield today and we're about to do something amazing.

6:02:30 > 6:02:32We're going to send Shelley into space and film it,

6:02:32 > 6:02:34and these guys are going to help us do it.

6:02:36 > 6:02:37Meet Alex and Chris,

6:02:37 > 6:02:41experts at sending special weather balloons into space.

6:02:41 > 6:02:45And this one is unique because Shelley will be hitching a ride!

6:02:45 > 6:02:48First, they fill the balloon with a gas called helium,

6:02:48 > 6:02:52the very same gas that's used in party balloons to make them rise.

6:02:54 > 6:02:56Next, they set up a special camera rig,

6:02:56 > 6:03:00so that we can join Shelley for her epic journey.

6:03:00 > 6:03:03And when the balloon is inflated, it's time to launch.

6:03:03 > 6:03:06Three, two, one.

6:03:06 > 6:03:08Go into space, Shelley!

6:03:08 > 6:03:10And there she goes!

6:03:10 > 6:03:13As soon as Shelley takes to the skies,

6:03:13 > 6:03:17Leah and the team hit the road to track her, using GPS technology.

6:03:17 > 6:03:20How fast will Shelley be moving?

6:03:20 > 6:03:24At the moment, maybe up to, you know, 80 to 100mph.

6:03:24 > 6:03:27But as well as going up, she's also drifting east.

6:03:27 > 6:03:31We are currently over here, so she's travelled all the way over to there.

6:03:31 > 6:03:33How many miles would that have been?

6:03:33 > 6:03:37- I don't know, about 20, 30 miles, maybe?- That's incredible.

6:03:37 > 6:03:40The only thing is, if she drifts too far,

6:03:40 > 6:03:42she could end up landing in the sea.

6:03:43 > 6:03:46After one hour in the air, Shelley is now at the same height

6:03:46 > 6:03:50as a jet plane flies, and she just keeps on going.

6:03:52 > 6:03:56Yeah, so she's currently at a height of 18.5km.

6:03:57 > 6:03:59And finally, she's so high up,

6:03:59 > 6:04:02she's no longer in the Earth's atmosphere.

6:04:02 > 6:04:07So, guys, this is incredible. Shelley is officially in space.

6:04:07 > 6:04:10She's made it. This is absolutely brilliant.

6:04:10 > 6:04:16Shelley eventually reaches over 28,000 metres high.

6:04:16 > 6:04:19Only Tim Peake and the five other astronauts

6:04:19 > 6:04:22aboard the International Space Station are above her!

6:04:22 > 6:04:24But as Shelley climbs higher,

6:04:24 > 6:04:28the change in pressure causes her weather balloon to burst.

6:04:30 > 6:04:36And she begins her journey back to Earth, reaching over 200mph.

6:04:36 > 6:04:38The race is really on for Leah and the team

6:04:38 > 6:04:41to get to Shelley's landing site in time.

6:04:43 > 6:04:45Oh, look!

6:04:46 > 6:04:50There's just the small matter of surviving the landing.

6:04:53 > 6:04:55There we go. Shelley's in one piece.

6:04:56 > 6:05:02So that's how our Shelley went to space and back in just one day.

6:05:02 > 6:05:05And let's not forget, it's all thanks to you!

6:05:06 > 6:05:08I just think that is one of the coolest things

6:05:08 > 6:05:11ever on Blue Peter, to send little 3D Shelley into space.

6:05:11 > 6:05:13It's so amazing! But here on Blue Peter,

6:05:13 > 6:05:15we're not the only ones to send something into space,

6:05:15 > 6:05:19because our fellow musician has sent this, a TV set,

6:05:19 > 6:05:22actually into space, for one of his latest videos.

6:05:22 > 6:05:24He's the coolest guy ever. Please welcome Kelvin Jones!

6:05:24 > 6:05:27CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

6:05:27 > 6:05:29I like that - clapping yourself. Kelvin, welcome to Blue Peter.

6:05:29 > 6:05:31- Thanks. - Well done on getting the badge.

6:05:31 > 6:05:34Now, your video for Call You Home - I mean, that was epic.

6:05:34 > 6:05:35Tell us a little bit about it.

6:05:35 > 6:05:38I came up with this crazy idea of sending an actual TV

6:05:38 > 6:05:42- into actual space and somehow we did it.- And it just looks amazing.

6:05:42 > 6:05:45- It got three million views online, didn't it, which is awesome.- Yeah.

6:05:45 > 6:05:46You've been really busy.

6:05:46 > 6:05:49You been touring - European tour with James Morrison, who we love.

6:05:49 > 6:05:52- I bet that was brilliant. - Insane good fun. Insane good fun.

6:05:52 > 6:05:54- So what's next for you?- I'm going to be doing the smaller thing,

6:05:54 > 6:05:57playing in people's living rooms. I'm going to do a living room tour.

6:05:57 > 6:05:59- That sounds amazing.- Crazy.

6:05:59 > 6:06:02Well, you can perform here for us later to start off that tour, maybe.

6:06:02 > 6:06:05- Tell us what you're performing. - My song called Call You Home.

6:06:05 > 6:06:07Oh, we cannot wait for that.

6:06:07 > 6:06:09Now, as it's Space Week, we've got a little treat,

6:06:09 > 6:06:12so do you want to walk this way with me? Cue the music.

6:06:12 > 6:06:14- MUSIC: Rocket Man by Elton John - Nice.

6:06:14 > 6:06:17Having a bit of a laugh there, and that's because, six weeks ago,

6:06:17 > 6:06:20we planted these rocket seeds as part

6:06:20 > 6:06:23of the Royal Horticultural Society's big space experiment.

6:06:23 > 6:06:26Now, some of these have been into space with Tim Peake. Some haven't.

6:06:26 > 6:06:29- We don't...- Which ones? - I knew you were going to ask that!

6:06:29 > 6:06:31We don't know which are which but some of them

6:06:31 > 6:06:33- are getting on better than others.- That one's been to space.

6:06:33 > 6:06:36- You reckon? You think red? - That's been to space.

6:06:36 > 6:06:38That one's been to space. That one specifically.

6:06:38 > 6:06:41- I've got a nose for it.- You've got a good feeling about this rocket!

6:06:41 > 6:06:44Well, if your performance is good later, you can have a taste, maybe.

6:06:44 > 6:06:46Thanks, yeah. Maybe not.

6:06:46 > 6:06:48OK, you go over there and prep for your performance.

6:06:48 > 6:06:49Cannot wait for that.

6:06:49 > 6:06:51And speaking of space experiments,

6:06:51 > 6:06:54Tim Peake has been doing loads recently and, to find out why

6:06:54 > 6:06:58they are so important, I went on a very special Blue Peter challenge.

6:07:07 > 6:07:10For almost six months, British astronaut Tim Peake

6:07:10 > 6:07:13has called the International Space Station home.

6:07:15 > 6:07:18And Blue Peter has been with him every step of the way,

6:07:18 > 6:07:20from Troy's winning mission patch...

6:07:20 > 6:07:22Oh, wow! That's amazing!

6:07:22 > 6:07:25..to catching up with Tim's adventures.

6:07:25 > 6:07:27Hello, Barney, and hi to Blue Peter.

6:07:27 > 6:07:30When he's not talking to us, he's been doing

6:07:30 > 6:07:34loads of experiments to see how living in space affects his body.

6:07:35 > 6:07:38So to experience what life is like for Tim,

6:07:38 > 6:07:41I'm going to need to spend some time in space.

6:07:41 > 6:07:42The problem is,

6:07:42 > 6:07:45I'm struggling to find the International Space Station.

6:07:45 > 6:07:46And cut!

6:07:48 > 6:07:51It's not really working, is it? No.

6:07:53 > 6:07:57OK, I can't go into space but there is a way of experiencing

6:07:57 > 6:08:01a big part of it without even leaving the Earth's atmosphere.

6:08:01 > 6:08:03To do it, I've had to travel to France,

6:08:03 > 6:08:07because this special plane can recreate weightlessness.

6:08:08 > 6:08:12We've all seen Tim and other astronauts floating in space

6:08:12 > 6:08:14but what causes this to happen?

6:08:15 > 6:08:18Well, it's all to do with falling.

6:08:19 > 6:08:20Here comes the science.

6:08:22 > 6:08:25The Earth's gravity pulls everything towards its surface,

6:08:25 > 6:08:28including the International Space Station.

6:08:29 > 6:08:31But, because the space station is travelling

6:08:31 > 6:08:36so fast around our planet, its fall matches the curve of the Earth -

6:08:36 > 6:08:38and that's what stops it dropping to the ground.

6:08:38 > 6:08:42Just like the space station, the astronauts inside are falling

6:08:42 > 6:08:46at the same speed, and this makes everything appear to float.

6:08:47 > 6:08:50And that's where this plane comes in.

6:08:50 > 6:08:54It's going to perform a series of steep climbs and descents.

6:08:54 > 6:08:57Every time the plane goes over the peak of the curve, everyone

6:08:57 > 6:09:01and everything on board will start to float, just like Tim does.

6:09:04 > 6:09:08From the outside, it looks like any other plane.

6:09:08 > 6:09:10Just like on the inside -

6:09:10 > 6:09:12until you realise that the other half of the plane

6:09:12 > 6:09:15is a massive padded room and it's through there

6:09:15 > 6:09:18that I'll get to experience weightlessness.

6:09:18 > 6:09:19I am so excited!

6:09:21 > 6:09:24But before I get to fly, there's some important work to do.

6:09:25 > 6:09:29Weightlessness can cause big changes to astronauts and their kit,

6:09:29 > 6:09:33so this plane is used to find out how space affects them.

6:09:34 > 6:09:37So I'm going to be joined by this group of scientists,

6:09:37 > 6:09:39who are all busy preparing all the experiments

6:09:39 > 6:09:43that they need to take up and test during the flight.

6:09:43 > 6:09:46Ulric's team are the only ones on board who are going to be

6:09:46 > 6:09:50conducting a test on the human body during the flight.

6:09:50 > 6:09:52We are doing an experiment on the heart,

6:09:52 > 6:09:54because the heart and the vessels

6:09:54 > 6:09:59do not work the same way in space as they do on ground.

6:09:59 > 6:10:03Christina's team are testing a new robot.

6:10:03 > 6:10:06It will take the soil from an asteroid

6:10:06 > 6:10:09and keep it into a canister,

6:10:09 > 6:10:14so scientists can bring the canister back to Earth to study it.

6:10:15 > 6:10:18With the experiments prepped, it's time for me to get ready.

6:10:20 > 6:10:24Before we take off, there's one final thing left to do,

6:10:24 > 6:10:28because this isn't going to be like any other flight.

6:10:28 > 6:10:31Some people call it the Vomit Comet and that's because I think

6:10:31 > 6:10:35it can make you pretty sick, so I've come to visit the medical team.

6:10:35 > 6:10:37They've got a little injection to put in my arm

6:10:37 > 6:10:40and hopefully that will mean I won't throw up.

6:10:40 > 6:10:41Wish me luck!

6:10:42 > 6:10:43Ooh!

6:10:45 > 6:10:49When you become a Blue Peter presenter, these are the days,

6:10:49 > 6:10:52these are the moments, that you actually dream about.

6:10:52 > 6:10:55This is what it's all about, because very soon I'm about to feel

6:10:55 > 6:11:00exactly what Tim Peake feels when he's up there in space.

6:11:00 > 6:11:03It's so special, and I cannot wait!

6:11:05 > 6:11:08Part two of that will be later on in the show

6:11:08 > 6:11:11and you do not want to miss that, so keep watching.

6:11:11 > 6:11:14So we know that Tim Peake's been in space for six months

6:11:14 > 6:11:17and we know he's returning on June the 18th,

6:11:17 > 6:11:18but how's he going to do that?

6:11:18 > 6:11:19Well, to answer that question,

6:11:19 > 6:11:23would you please welcome to Blue Peter space expert Libby Jackson!

6:11:23 > 6:11:26- Libby, welcome to Blue Peter. - Thank you very much.

6:11:26 > 6:11:28I'm very excited, because you've actually worked with

6:11:28 > 6:11:32Tim Peake since 2009, when he first got selected to be an astronaut.

6:11:32 > 6:11:34You saw him take off. How were you feeling?

6:11:34 > 6:11:35It was a really emotional day.

6:11:35 > 6:11:38It was wonderful to see him go up and it's been wonderful

6:11:38 > 6:11:41to see him in space, inspiring so many kids throughout his mission.

6:11:41 > 6:11:43And in terms of the steps he'll take to come back to Earth,

6:11:43 > 6:11:44what will he go through?

6:11:44 > 6:11:47The first thing he'll do, he'll hug and say goodbye

6:11:47 > 6:11:49to the three crewmates who are staying up there.

6:11:49 > 6:11:52He'll get into the Soyuz spacecraft - that's the capsule

6:11:52 > 6:11:54that's going to bring him home. We can see them doing that.

6:11:54 > 6:11:56Then he'll put on his Sokol spacesuit,

6:11:56 > 6:11:58which is the spacesuit to protect him on his way back.

6:11:58 > 6:12:01The spacecraft's going to drift away from the space station

6:12:01 > 6:12:03and then it takes about 3½ hours to get home.

6:12:03 > 6:12:06So we can see it starting... Only 3½ hours?

6:12:06 > 6:12:073½ hours is a pretty quick journey.

6:12:07 > 6:12:09That really is unbe... Is it dangerous?

6:12:09 > 6:12:12Well, of course it is, because we're in space and in space,

6:12:12 > 6:12:14there's no atmosphere, so that journey back...

6:12:14 > 6:12:16He's going to be in the capsule.

6:12:16 > 6:12:18If that were to suddenly depressurise and he found

6:12:18 > 6:12:21- himself in no air, couldn't breathe, had some problems...- Wow!

6:12:21 > 6:12:23We've got marshmallows, to show you what might happen.

6:12:23 > 6:12:25Before we talk about the marshmallows,

6:12:25 > 6:12:27we've got our very own Blue Peter spaceman.

6:12:27 > 6:12:28Bjorn, in you come, my friend.

6:12:28 > 6:12:31Coming in slow motion, cos he's currently walking in the moon.

6:12:31 > 6:12:35- This is a genuine space outfit? - This is a genuine space outfit.

6:12:35 > 6:12:37It's the Sokol suit. This is what Tim will wear when he comes home,

6:12:37 > 6:12:40to make sure that if there were any problems, he'd be kept safe.

6:12:40 > 6:12:43Amazing. Bjorn, thank you. Can you spacewalk off?

6:12:43 > 6:12:46- Give this man a round of applause! - CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

6:12:46 > 6:12:48And I guess this is where the marshmallow man comes in?

6:12:48 > 6:12:53- Yes, indeed.- So earlier on, we had an experiment where we decompress -

6:12:53 > 6:12:56- is that right? - or depressurised marshmallow man.- We did.

6:12:56 > 6:12:58We basically put him in this pressure chamber,

6:12:58 > 6:13:01we sucked all the air out and we saw what would happen, and that's

6:13:01 > 6:13:04a little bit like what would happen if Tim were to have some problems.

6:13:04 > 6:13:06- OK, that looks like a big problem. - It is.

6:13:06 > 6:13:09Now, we're not made of marshmallows, fortunately,

6:13:09 > 6:13:13so we wouldn't expand like that, but we would not be able to breathe.

6:13:13 > 6:13:15All the gases in our blood would start to boil.

6:13:15 > 6:13:16It wouldn't be a good day

6:13:16 > 6:13:18and that's why we've got Tim wearing a spacesuit.

6:13:18 > 6:13:21We've got lots of people making sure everything is as safe

6:13:21 > 6:13:24as it can be and hopefully, he'll get home in one piece.

6:13:24 > 6:13:27- Absolutely, he will.- Yes.- Now, going back to the journey...- Absolutely.

6:13:27 > 6:13:30It's now left the space station - what happens next?

6:13:30 > 6:13:33So, just before they re-enter the Earth's atmosphere,

6:13:33 > 6:13:35their spacecraft splits into three pieces,

6:13:35 > 6:13:38so there's a bit in the middle, which we can see here.

6:13:38 > 6:13:40That's where Tim and his crew are going to be sitting,

6:13:40 > 6:13:43in this middle part. The other bits were only needed in space.

6:13:43 > 6:13:46So this part is what plunges back through the atmosphere.

6:13:46 > 6:13:49At the moment, they're going at 17,500 mph,

6:13:49 > 6:13:5228,000kph.

6:13:52 > 6:13:56- No!- That's 30 times the speed of a jumbo jet.- That's unbelievable!

6:13:56 > 6:13:58They'll de-orbit, they'll fire their thruster to slow down,

6:13:58 > 6:14:01they'll re-enter the Earth's atmosphere, and as they do that,

6:14:01 > 6:14:04they slam into all these hot gases

6:14:04 > 6:14:08and the spacecraft heats up. It gets to 2,000 Celsius.

6:14:08 > 6:14:11- 2,000 degrees Celsius? - So the spacecraft's really clever.

6:14:11 > 6:14:14To make sure that they don't burn up, they don't get into problems,

6:14:14 > 6:14:17it's got all these layers, and they fall off one by one.

6:14:17 > 6:14:18Keeps the spacecraft cool.

6:14:18 > 6:14:20Once it's burst through the atmosphere,

6:14:20 > 6:14:23then they're back into Earth's atmosphere.

6:14:23 > 6:14:25The parachutes open and they gently descend back to Earth.

6:14:25 > 6:14:28Look at that ex... Look at that crash, though. Is that a...

6:14:28 > 6:14:30Whoa! What's going on there?

6:14:30 > 6:14:32That's not an explosion.

6:14:32 > 6:14:35That's actually some thrusters, some rocket engines, firing,

6:14:35 > 6:14:38one second before they land, to slow the descent even more,

6:14:38 > 6:14:40to try and make it as gentle as possible.

6:14:40 > 6:14:42So when you say one second, how far is that?

6:14:42 > 6:14:45It's about 70 centimetres before the spacecraft hits the ground,

6:14:45 > 6:14:47the rocket engines fire.

6:14:47 > 6:14:50- So that much before the they hit the Earth's surface?- Indeed.- Wow!

6:14:50 > 6:14:53But even with those rocket engines, even with all that,

6:14:53 > 6:14:55it's still a real thud and the astronauts describe it

6:14:55 > 6:14:59as being a bit like in a small car crash.

6:14:59 > 6:15:00I don't really fancy that any more!

6:15:00 > 6:15:03When you've been in space for six months, you're weak.

6:15:03 > 6:15:05Your first taste of gravity is like that slam.

6:15:05 > 6:15:08- It's quite a rollercoaster ride.- OK. And so in terms of getting...

6:15:08 > 6:15:10- Could he just get out and walk around?- We hope he can.

6:15:10 > 6:15:13He's been training every day for two hours a day to make sure

6:15:13 > 6:15:15his bones and muscles are as strong as they can be.

6:15:15 > 6:15:17That's him doing the London Marathon.

6:15:17 > 6:15:18That's him doing the marathon.

6:15:18 > 6:15:21But even with that, he's still weaker. But we'll see him...

6:15:21 > 6:15:24When he comes back to Earth, we'll see him carried out of that capsule.

6:15:24 > 6:15:26That's not necessarily because he's weak,

6:15:26 > 6:15:28it's because it's a sign of honour and the Russians...

6:15:28 > 6:15:30He's flying in a Russian spacecraft.

6:15:30 > 6:15:33It's their tradition that they help the spacecraft...

6:15:33 > 6:15:36The space crew out of the capsule, put them in seats,

6:15:36 > 6:15:38so we'll see him carried out. It's a sign of honour and tradition.

6:15:38 > 6:15:40It'll be an absolute privilege to see that.

6:15:40 > 6:15:42Somebody who knows just how that feels is

6:15:42 > 6:15:44somebody who's a part of the UK Space Agency,

6:15:44 > 6:15:48the first-ever British astronaut in space, Helen Sharman.

6:15:48 > 6:15:50Can you hear us at all, Helen?

6:15:50 > 6:15:53I'm here, listening to everything that's happening. Great to hear you!

6:15:53 > 6:15:55Well, likewise and, Helen, obviously,

6:15:55 > 6:15:57Tim's following in your footsteps.

6:15:57 > 6:16:00- How awesome was it to see him take off?- Oh, a fabulous day, wasn't it?

6:16:00 > 6:16:03I mean, for 25 years, since my space flight, we've been waiting.

6:16:03 > 6:16:05I think many people...

6:16:05 > 6:16:07We've all been waiting for another British astronaut.

6:16:07 > 6:16:09So finally, we've got one - better late than never -

6:16:09 > 6:16:11and he's doing a fantastic job.

6:16:11 > 6:16:13How is it different to the mission that you did,

6:16:13 > 6:16:14as you say, 25 years ago?

6:16:14 > 6:16:16Well, the whole set-up was different.

6:16:16 > 6:16:19Mine was an agreement between Britain and the Soviet Union,

6:16:19 > 6:16:22or Russia now. Tim is a European Space Agency astronaut,

6:16:22 > 6:16:25but he still flew on a Soyuz rocket, like I did, and he's landing

6:16:25 > 6:16:28in a Soyuz spacecraft, so very similar to the way that I landed.

6:16:28 > 6:16:30We've been talking to Libby about what it's going to feel like

6:16:30 > 6:16:32entering the Earth's atmosphere again.

6:16:32 > 6:16:35You've done it. What does that feel like?

6:16:35 > 6:16:38It is actually physically harder than the launch.

6:16:38 > 6:16:41So we have 5.5G coming back to Earth.

6:16:41 > 6:16:43We only have 3.5 going up into space,

6:16:43 > 6:16:46so the astronauts will feel really heavy.

6:16:46 > 6:16:47You're pushed back into your seat.

6:16:47 > 6:16:50Even lifting up your arm is incredibly difficult to do that,

6:16:50 > 6:16:52because your arm weighs, you know,

6:16:52 > 6:16:555.5 times as much as it does normally on Earth, so compared

6:16:55 > 6:17:01to feeling weightless, it's an incredibly strenuous exercise to do.

6:17:01 > 6:17:03It doesn't last very long and, as Libby's saying,

6:17:03 > 6:17:06when you actually hit the ground, that is a really...

6:17:06 > 6:17:07A bit of a bang and a bump,

6:17:07 > 6:17:10and of all the accidents that happen to astronauts, that's the one

6:17:10 > 6:17:13where we tend to get a bit more battered and bruised a little bit.

6:17:13 > 6:17:15Helen, thank you so much for your time.

6:17:15 > 6:17:17I imagine it was a completely life-changing experience.

6:17:17 > 6:17:19Lovely to talk to you.

6:17:19 > 6:17:22Libby, also, what an absolute privilege it's been to talk

6:17:22 > 6:17:23- to yourself.- Pleasure.

6:17:23 > 6:17:26Can I go one extra step? We've got some space posters to show you -

6:17:26 > 6:17:29- do you want to come and see them? - I'd love to.- Let's walk and talk.

6:17:29 > 6:17:32Come on over, guys, because this week's Big Badge Wall

6:17:32 > 6:17:34is looking quite literally out of this world.

6:17:34 > 6:17:35The colours, the shapes are amazing.

6:17:35 > 6:17:39This one is brilliant. It's from Josh, who is 11, from West Sussex.

6:17:39 > 6:17:42It's a nice little pic of Tim Peake. I think quite lifelike, Libby.

6:17:42 > 6:17:45- Very lifelike. He's looking very handsome.- I think it's good.

6:17:45 > 6:17:47And, of course, the amazing Principia badge there.

6:17:47 > 6:17:50You've earned yourself a blue badge. Well done, Josh.

6:17:50 > 6:17:54Now, Wilf from Manchester sent in this awesome rocket.

6:17:54 > 6:17:56- Libby, do you like it? - I love it. It's brilliant!

6:17:56 > 6:17:58It's got a name on the front there.

6:17:58 > 6:18:01Down the bottom, we've got all the fire and flames coming out.

6:18:01 > 6:18:04It looks like something I think I'd be happy to go into space on.

6:18:04 > 6:18:06- It's huge!- Enormous! - Impressive, isn't it?

6:18:06 > 6:18:09Thanks to every one of you who sent in post on the Big Badge Wall.

6:18:09 > 6:18:10You got yourselves a BP badge, my friends.

6:18:10 > 6:18:13Now, it is the half-term holiday soon - I'm excited, I know you are -

6:18:13 > 6:18:16and if you've got a Blue Peter badge, you'll be excited to know

6:18:16 > 6:18:19you can get into over 200 attractions across the UK, Radz...

6:18:19 > 6:18:21# For free! #

6:18:21 > 6:18:24Which is exciting. But those attractions can change sometimes,

6:18:24 > 6:18:27so make sure you grab a grown-up and just check all the details

6:18:27 > 6:18:30on our website, cos you want to have a good half-term, right?

6:18:30 > 6:18:32Also, a massive thank you to everyone who entered

6:18:32 > 6:18:33the Dream Big competition.

6:18:33 > 6:18:38Check this out - 8,420 of you have applied.

6:18:38 > 6:18:40- Amazing.- However, the closing date has now passed,

6:18:40 > 6:18:41so please do not enter any more.

6:18:41 > 6:18:43But we will be announcing the winner shortly.

6:18:43 > 6:18:45Also, speaking of half term,

6:18:45 > 6:18:47if you want to have some fun on the computer, you can go online

6:18:47 > 6:18:49because there's a nice little space quiz there.

6:18:49 > 6:18:52You can test which planet you are the most like.

6:18:52 > 6:18:53It's going to be good fun. Speaking of fun,

6:18:53 > 6:18:56now on to something amazing because earlier,

6:18:56 > 6:18:59you saw me prepare for my space adventure,

6:18:59 > 6:19:03but this is what happened the actual moment I experienced weightlessness.

6:19:06 > 6:19:09I've travelled to France to experience something

6:19:09 > 6:19:11I've only ever dreamed about - weightlessness.

6:19:13 > 6:19:16This is as close as any human being can get

6:19:16 > 6:19:19to feeling like Tim Peake without going into space.

6:19:21 > 6:19:23Very few people get to do this,

6:19:23 > 6:19:26so I'm incredibly lucky to have a ticket.

6:19:29 > 6:19:31My heart is beating.

6:19:31 > 6:19:35Seatbelt's on. No going back. This is it.

6:19:35 > 6:19:36Aargh!

6:19:42 > 6:19:44This special plane is going to climb steeply,

6:19:44 > 6:19:46before dropping towards Earth.

6:19:46 > 6:19:50It will happen around 30 times and every time it does,

6:19:50 > 6:19:53everyone on board will experience weightlessness.

6:19:54 > 6:19:57As soon as we're up in the air, we start to get into position

6:19:57 > 6:20:01and lie down in the padded area of the plane.

6:20:01 > 6:20:03You can feel the excitement in here.

6:20:03 > 6:20:06I really don't know what to expect, but...

6:20:07 > 6:20:09..this is just going to be amazing.

6:20:11 > 6:20:12The time has arrived.

6:20:12 > 6:20:16The scientists are ready and the plane begins its steep climb.

6:20:16 > 6:20:20Oh, my heart! You would not believe how fast it's beating.

6:20:20 > 6:20:23Oh, wow! Oh, I feel heavy.

6:20:23 > 6:20:26'And then we start to drop.'

6:20:26 > 6:20:28Oh, my goodness! Oh, my goodness!

6:20:28 > 6:20:31Oh, wow. Wow, wow, wow.

6:20:31 > 6:20:32I'm starting to float.

6:20:32 > 6:20:37'I had no idea what to expect but this is utterly incredible!'

6:20:37 > 6:20:41Whoa! I'm floating! Oh, my goodness!

6:20:41 > 6:20:42What do I do?

6:20:42 > 6:20:44This is the most ama...

6:20:45 > 6:20:49I'm floating! This is the weirdest feeling!

6:20:49 > 6:20:51Oh, wow!

6:20:52 > 6:20:56That was the most bizarre feeling of my life.

6:20:56 > 6:20:59'On my next go, I start to get the hang of it,

6:20:59 > 6:21:02'with a bit of help from the team on board.'

6:21:02 > 6:21:06Let's walk on the ceiling! Whoa! Look at this!

6:21:06 > 6:21:08I'm walking on the ceiling.

6:21:08 > 6:21:12Waargh! Should I do a flip?

6:21:12 > 6:21:14SHE SCREAMS AND CHUCKLES

6:21:14 > 6:21:16Oh, my goodness!

6:21:19 > 6:21:22This is the most ridiculous feeling of my life!

6:21:24 > 6:21:26Whoo!

6:21:26 > 6:21:28OK, I'm going to try and swim.

6:21:30 > 6:21:32'It's so fun, but it doesn't last forever.'

6:21:32 > 6:21:34Oh, dear!

6:21:35 > 6:21:39'Each period of weightlessness lasts around 25 seconds -

6:21:39 > 6:21:43'just enough time for the scientists to carry out their experiments.

6:21:43 > 6:21:46'Things seem to be going well for Ulric and his team,

6:21:46 > 6:21:49'who are looking at what happens to the heart and blood vessels

6:21:49 > 6:21:50'when someone is weightless.'

6:21:50 > 6:21:52It's going really great, smooth.

6:21:52 > 6:21:56- We get good images.- So you're happy with all the results so far?

6:21:56 > 6:21:58Yeah, we are happy so far.

6:21:58 > 6:22:01'Christina's team, who are testing a robot that could

6:22:01 > 6:22:05'land on an asteroid, are still getting the hang of the conditions.'

6:22:05 > 6:22:09- Very strange doing science with weightlessness.- Yeah, I bet!

6:22:09 > 6:22:13- But are you having fun?- A lot of fun.- Ooh, you're going over there!

6:22:13 > 6:22:15- You have no choice where you go, do you?- I'm sorry!

6:22:17 > 6:22:20'It will take a few weeks until the scientists get the results back.

6:22:20 > 6:22:24'In the meantime, I've got some very important, er,

6:22:24 > 6:22:26'highly scientific experiments to do.

6:22:28 > 6:22:30'First up, floating the badge.'

6:22:30 > 6:22:31Waargh!

6:22:31 > 6:22:33'Tying my shoelaces...'

6:22:33 > 6:22:36I've got to try and put it on. I haven't got long to do it.

6:22:36 > 6:22:39I've got the shoe on. Now I've got to do my laces!

6:22:39 > 6:22:42How does Tim Peake do this?!

6:22:43 > 6:22:45I can't do my laces!

6:22:48 > 6:22:50'How about floating on a magic carpet?'

6:22:50 > 6:22:52SHE GIGGLES

6:22:52 > 6:22:53Whoo!

6:22:53 > 6:22:55'Aladdin made this look really easy!

6:22:57 > 6:22:59'And what about brushing my hair?

6:23:00 > 6:23:03'That's my scientific experiments almost done,

6:23:03 > 6:23:07'but there's one last thing I've always wanted to try.'

6:23:07 > 6:23:09I'm flying! I'm a superhero!

6:23:12 > 6:23:14SHE CHUCKLES

6:23:17 > 6:23:20Do you know what? That was just the most incredible experience

6:23:20 > 6:23:22I think I've ever had in my life.

6:23:22 > 6:23:25And to think that I got to see what it's like for Tim Peake

6:23:25 > 6:23:28to live, work and do everything that he does up in space is phenomenal.

6:23:28 > 6:23:30I want to go again!

6:23:30 > 6:23:33CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

6:23:33 > 6:23:35I actually want to do that every day.

6:23:35 > 6:23:38That was the funnest day of my life. It was incredible.

6:23:38 > 6:23:41- I wish I could've taken you, Radz. - I want to go there!- It was so good.

6:23:41 > 6:23:44And just to make today even better, Tim Peake's been in touch -

6:23:44 > 6:23:45cos, you know, he does, with Blue Peter -

6:23:45 > 6:23:47and he sent us this little photo earlier.

6:23:47 > 6:23:50It's the Blue Peter badge in space - how cool is that?

6:23:50 > 6:23:52I've just spoken to Libby,

6:23:52 > 6:23:56who says she's going to send this episode of Blue Peter up to Tim

6:23:56 > 6:23:59- so, Tim, sir, it's been an honour. - Enjoy.- Legend!- Enjoy.

6:23:59 > 6:24:01Let's do the comments for Tim.

6:24:01 > 6:24:04We've been asking you, what one item would you take up into space?

6:24:04 > 6:24:07And SapphireHockeyColley - good name! - says,

6:24:07 > 6:24:10"I would take Iggy, cos Shelley's been to space but Iggy hasn't."

6:24:10 > 6:24:13- Nice.- Good point.- Share it about. - Maybe a 3D Iggy.

6:24:13 > 6:24:16PlumCycloneSeal Says, "I would take an alien dictionary,

6:24:16 > 6:24:19"so I could understand and interpret their language".

6:24:19 > 6:24:21- I love the way that you think! - We have the best fans!

6:24:21 > 6:24:25NavyBlueSpikyCow says, "I would take a never-ending vending machine,

6:24:25 > 6:24:29"so I'd never run out of snacks." I like that one! Very good!

6:24:29 > 6:24:31PurpleBrainyMosquito - you think logically!

6:24:31 > 6:24:34"A manual on how to survive in space." Of course, a manual!

6:24:34 > 6:24:36- Radz, have you sent in this one? - No.

6:24:36 > 6:24:39It says IndigoCheerfulHawk, but I think it might be you.

6:24:39 > 6:24:42"I'd take my bed, cos it would be really weird to sleep in space."

6:24:42 > 6:24:45- I like napping, people.- He does!

6:24:45 > 6:24:46"I'd take my guitar so I could hear

6:24:46 > 6:24:48"the difference of me playing in space."

6:24:48 > 6:24:50We'll have to ask Libby what that sounds like.

6:24:50 > 6:24:53Not that she's done it. Now, if you've been watching carefully

6:24:53 > 6:24:56and been on the fan club, you'll know that we've been playing

6:24:56 > 6:25:00Spot Shelley and the winner of that was GoldJokeyPrimrose,

6:25:00 > 6:25:02so well done. Round of applause for you.

6:25:02 > 6:25:03APPLAUSE

6:25:03 > 6:25:05You can see it there, just...

6:25:05 > 6:25:08- Ooh, she was sneaky this week, wasn't she?- Very sneaky.

6:25:08 > 6:25:11Anyway, just time to tell you what's coming up in next week's show.

6:25:11 > 6:25:13It is going to be a green badge spesh!

6:25:13 > 6:25:16We're going to be in the Blue Peter garden and there you can see George

6:25:16 > 6:25:20is going to be giving the veg patch a little bit of a makeover.

6:25:20 > 6:25:21He's awesome!

6:25:21 > 6:25:23We'll also be talking to BBC Two's Springwatch -

6:25:23 > 6:25:25Martin, Michaela and Chris.

6:25:25 > 6:25:29And we've got some exciting green badge news, so make sure you watch.

6:25:29 > 6:25:32Now, without any more applause or excitement,

6:25:32 > 6:25:34it's the legend, Kelvin Jones.

6:25:34 > 6:25:37CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

6:25:48 > 6:25:51# You got those eyes, stare into my soul

6:25:53 > 6:25:56# You get that smile when I'm giving you my all

6:25:57 > 6:26:00# You're the brighter side of things You're the lighter side of life

6:26:00 > 6:26:03# And all the joy that you bring Is why I need you in my life

6:26:03 > 6:26:06# But can I call you home?
