0:00:07 > 0:00:11- This VIP is small but mighty. - With an eye-catching appearance.

0:00:11 > 0:00:13Pursued by many but often elusive.

0:00:15 > 0:00:18- ALL:- It's the silver badge!

0:00:34 > 0:00:36- CHEERING AND APPLAUSE Hello.- Hello.

0:00:36 > 0:00:38- Welcome to Blue Peter.- Hiya.

0:00:38 > 0:00:40Today is the last leg in our badge baton relay

0:00:40 > 0:00:43where we're asking you - in fact, we're challenging you -

0:00:43 > 0:00:45to earn as many badges as you can this summer.

0:00:45 > 0:00:48- Today is... Guess what? ..the silver special.- Yes!

0:00:48 > 0:00:51We're very excited. And, of course, as you know,

0:00:51 > 0:00:54we give out silver badges to anyone who's already got a blue badge

0:00:54 > 0:00:56and goes on to do something a little bit different.

0:00:56 > 0:00:57So, if, for example,

0:00:57 > 0:01:00you sent in a letter or a picture to get your blue badge,

0:01:00 > 0:01:02you can send in something totally different, like a poem,

0:01:02 > 0:01:05a model, or even a make to get your silver badge.

0:01:05 > 0:01:08So, if you want to get inspired, today's show is going to get you

0:01:08 > 0:01:11- into that silver inspiration that you need.- Yes!- Camera two.

0:01:11 > 0:01:14Hello. Later in the show, you'll get the chance to see what happened

0:01:14 > 0:01:17when this silver badge travelled 250 miles that way,

0:01:17 > 0:01:19towards the International Space Station,

0:01:19 > 0:01:22when I got to hang out with British astronaut Tim Peake.

0:01:22 > 0:01:23He's a legend. Stay tuned.

0:01:23 > 0:01:26As well as that, if you want to know how you can get crafty...

0:01:26 > 0:01:28- See what I did there?- Like it. - ..to earn your badge,

0:01:28 > 0:01:31Radzi and I are going to be showing you how you can make this.

0:01:31 > 0:01:34- It's a Shelley pinata. How cool is that?- Amazing.- I love it.

0:01:34 > 0:01:36Now, because it's a silver badge show,

0:01:36 > 0:01:39I thought I'd do something to celebrate the silver badge

0:01:39 > 0:01:42and so I got to travel in something silver.

0:01:42 > 0:01:44Well, it's tin. That's close enough, isn't it?

0:01:48 > 0:01:50Today, I've travelled to the Isle of Man

0:01:50 > 0:01:52to take part in an incredible sport.

0:01:52 > 0:01:56It's going to take nerves of steel, real skill and extreme endurance

0:01:56 > 0:01:59and, er, and a tin bath.

0:02:01 > 0:02:04This is the World Tin Bath Championships,

0:02:04 > 0:02:06and it attracts competitors from all over the globe.

0:02:06 > 0:02:10I'm catching up with founder Dave to find out more.

0:02:10 > 0:02:12Now, my grandma and grandad actually had one of these tin baths

0:02:12 > 0:02:15in their front room and I used to have a bath in it

0:02:15 > 0:02:17in front of the fire in their house. That's how old they are.

0:02:17 > 0:02:20That's how far back they go. Do they have to be tin for this race?

0:02:20 > 0:02:24- Yes, they do.- OK.- That's why it's the World TIN Bath Championship,

0:02:24 > 0:02:26- as opposed to World Bath Championships.- That makes sense.

0:02:26 > 0:02:29What does the bath have to be before it can float on water?

0:02:29 > 0:02:31- How do you make it float? - To make it float,

0:02:31 > 0:02:34you need just two one-gallon cans on a piece of two-by-one,

0:02:34 > 0:02:363ft, 4ft wide, and that puts your floats on it.

0:02:36 > 0:02:39Tie it to the bath, get a paddle and away you go.

0:02:39 > 0:02:41Can I put a motor on it? Can I put an electric motor on the back?

0:02:41 > 0:02:44- No electric motors.- Rockets? Rockets on the side?- No rockets, no.

0:02:44 > 0:02:48- We've had that.- OK, just a tin bath. - Standard household tin bath.

0:02:48 > 0:02:50- I need a bath. - I thought I could smell something.

0:02:50 > 0:02:53I think I'll do the comedy, thank you very much. Right.

0:02:53 > 0:02:55- No, an actual bath, please, Dave. - DAVE LAUGHS

0:02:55 > 0:02:57This may seem like fun,

0:02:57 > 0:02:59but competitors take this event pretty seriously

0:02:59 > 0:03:02and making your bath look good is all part of it.

0:03:02 > 0:03:05So, I've given mine a bit of a Blue Peter makeover.

0:03:05 > 0:03:08My little tin bath beauty. Isn't she gorgeous? Now, I know

0:03:08 > 0:03:10it's Blue Peter and I did want to paint it blue,

0:03:10 > 0:03:13but we didn't have any blue paint, so it's yellow.

0:03:13 > 0:03:16I've got a camera so you can see what I'm doing in the tin bath.

0:03:16 > 0:03:17I've got a bail-out bowl.

0:03:17 > 0:03:19This is very important cos water will come into the bath

0:03:19 > 0:03:21and so I can then bail the water out.

0:03:21 > 0:03:23If that gets into trouble, I've got another bowl

0:03:23 > 0:03:26so I can bail out the bail-out bowl. I've thought of everything.

0:03:29 > 0:03:31I've done some incredible things on Blue Peter,

0:03:31 > 0:03:34but today, I'm taking it to the next level.

0:03:35 > 0:03:39You can keep your power shower, and I don't need no soap.

0:03:39 > 0:03:41It's just me and my bathing machine.

0:03:42 > 0:03:44Let's do this.

0:03:48 > 0:03:50So, the idea of this race is quite simple.

0:03:50 > 0:03:53I've got to get into my tin bath, which is very difficult to steer,

0:03:53 > 0:03:55and head out from here to the very end.

0:03:55 > 0:03:57You see where the bridge is in the distance?

0:03:57 > 0:04:00I've got to go under that, around that little bunting line

0:04:00 > 0:04:02and then come back down here to the finish line.

0:04:02 > 0:04:05Now, apparently, the most amount of sinkages -

0:04:05 > 0:04:06the people who go under the water -

0:04:06 > 0:04:08that happens here, right at the start.

0:04:08 > 0:04:10It's very difficult to get your balance.

0:04:10 > 0:04:13As long as I get my balance right, I should be able to set off.

0:04:13 > 0:04:16But that's easier said than done, as I soon discover.

0:04:16 > 0:04:18All right, we're in!

0:04:18 > 0:04:20We're in. Oh, we were in.

0:04:20 > 0:04:21We're not in.

0:04:23 > 0:04:26'I'm sinking. Yeah, I'm actually sinking.

0:04:26 > 0:04:28'Not a good start.'

0:04:32 > 0:04:35OK, this is getting a bit embarrassing now.

0:04:35 > 0:04:38- TANNOY:- 'Blue Peter's not having a lot of success here.'

0:04:38 > 0:04:40Now, the boat that I was in originally is no good,

0:04:40 > 0:04:42so Dave, the guy we met earlier on,

0:04:42 > 0:04:44the organiser who started this, like, 50 years ago,

0:04:44 > 0:04:46he's given me the original tin bath that he raced in

0:04:46 > 0:04:48that started this whole thing.

0:04:48 > 0:04:51So, I'm driving an icon. It's older than Blue Peter.

0:04:51 > 0:04:53I can't wait to get in it and give it a go.

0:04:53 > 0:04:57New boat, fresh start and I think I'm getting the hang of it.

0:04:57 > 0:04:58As soon as you start paddling,

0:04:58 > 0:05:01it actually becomes a bit more difficult to keep stable.

0:05:01 > 0:05:03So, I think the key here is keep moving.

0:05:03 > 0:05:06And I've got steering down, I think. Just about.

0:05:06 > 0:05:07Yeah, I think we're going to be OK.

0:05:07 > 0:05:09I think we're going to be fine on this one.

0:05:09 > 0:05:11With the race only moments away,

0:05:11 > 0:05:15I eventually join my fellow competitors at the start line.

0:05:15 > 0:05:17- TANNOY:- 'Are you ready?'- Yes!

0:05:17 > 0:05:20'On your marks, set, go!'

0:05:20 > 0:05:23- CROWD CHEERS - And we're off.

0:05:23 > 0:05:26Now, considering I've done absolutely no training for this,

0:05:26 > 0:05:28it seems to be going OK.

0:05:28 > 0:05:31I'm past the yellow buoy! I'm past the yellow buoy.

0:05:31 > 0:05:32This is great news. This is great news.

0:05:32 > 0:05:36I'm also not dead last cos this guy in the very sparkly shirt...

0:05:37 > 0:05:40OK. No, now I'm last. Now I'm last. That's OK.

0:05:40 > 0:05:43'I may be last but I'm still afloat, unlike some others.'

0:05:43 > 0:05:45Man down. Two men down.

0:05:45 > 0:05:47And Barney is still going strong.

0:05:47 > 0:05:49'Don't be too confident, Barney.'

0:05:49 > 0:05:51No, no, no, no. No!

0:05:51 > 0:05:53No!

0:05:53 > 0:05:56'And my fellow competitors aren't helping either.'

0:05:56 > 0:06:00Whoa! That's cheating. That's definitely cheating.

0:06:00 > 0:06:03'All this constant paddling is starting to take it's toll.'

0:06:04 > 0:06:06This is so hard!

0:06:06 > 0:06:08I'm trying my hardest, but I've lost all my strength

0:06:08 > 0:06:10because I'm using quite a lot of my energy

0:06:10 > 0:06:13to keep this thing floating and staying upright.

0:06:13 > 0:06:16'I'm almost halfway, but now for the tricky bit.

0:06:16 > 0:06:18'I need to turn under the bridge.'

0:06:18 > 0:06:21This is the hardest bit. This is where we can capsize.

0:06:21 > 0:06:23'Am I going to do it? Keep paddling.'

0:06:23 > 0:06:24No!

0:06:24 > 0:06:26'Oh, no.

0:06:26 > 0:06:28'Oh, disaster.'

0:06:30 > 0:06:32That was so hard. I was so close.

0:06:32 > 0:06:34'I've had so much fun

0:06:34 > 0:06:37'and I may not be the World Tin Bath Champion,

0:06:37 > 0:06:40'but I gave it my very best shot.'

0:06:40 > 0:06:41Yeah, I need a bath.

0:06:41 > 0:06:43A real one. Oh!

0:06:45 > 0:06:46You may have noticed

0:06:46 > 0:06:48that our very own Shelley made an appearance there,

0:06:48 > 0:06:50so why not head online after the show

0:06:50 > 0:06:52for a very special Fan Club Hour

0:06:52 > 0:06:54where you can help to write the story of what happens to Shelley

0:06:54 > 0:06:56in her watery adventure?

0:06:56 > 0:06:58But now onto something a little bit different.

0:06:58 > 0:07:01This is what happened when Radzi and I were put to the task

0:07:01 > 0:07:02of creating something very arty

0:07:02 > 0:07:06with PVA glue, paper and a lot of green paint.

0:07:06 > 0:07:09And believe it or not, it was a work of art.

0:07:09 > 0:07:11Now, you're going to like this

0:07:11 > 0:07:13cos it's a make that involves parties - outdoor parties...

0:07:13 > 0:07:17- Ooh, hello.- ..and Shelley. - It can only be the Shelley pinata.

0:07:17 > 0:07:20Have a look at her in all her glory.

0:07:20 > 0:07:23Just spinning around in the wind showing herself off.

0:07:23 > 0:07:25It's a really good make. We love this one, don't we, Radz?

0:07:25 > 0:07:26Genuinely love this.

0:07:26 > 0:07:28- We're about to have a Shelley party. - Linds?- Yes.

0:07:28 > 0:07:30What do you need to make it?

0:07:30 > 0:07:32You're going to need the following things...

0:07:42 > 0:07:43It's a very green make. We love it.

0:07:43 > 0:07:46So, first things first, you need a Shelley body,

0:07:46 > 0:07:48- and I'll do that with a balloon. - OK. Uh-oh.

0:07:50 > 0:07:52Well done. If you could...

0:07:52 > 0:07:54Oh, Rad. I knew you were going to do that!

0:07:54 > 0:07:56- It landed on the cameraman, as well.- It's not a big deal.

0:07:56 > 0:07:58You've got one there. We've got a nice, big one.

0:07:58 > 0:07:59And then, to get started,

0:07:59 > 0:08:01I've just got a few bits of newspaper

0:08:01 > 0:08:04- that I've just kind of torn. Doesn't have to be too neat.- Yes.

0:08:04 > 0:08:07And then dip them in the PVA and water like so,

0:08:07 > 0:08:09and then kind of wipe it off.

0:08:09 > 0:08:11You don't want too much glue on them.

0:08:11 > 0:08:14- And then whack it onto your balloon like so.- Nice.

0:08:14 > 0:08:15Now, you need a couple of layers, Radz,

0:08:15 > 0:08:17because we want our Shelley to be sturdy.

0:08:17 > 0:08:19So, make sure you kind of dip it in

0:08:19 > 0:08:22and when you put the next bit on and wipe off the glue,

0:08:22 > 0:08:25just make sure that it just slightly overlaps like that.

0:08:25 > 0:08:28There you go. And once you've done that all the way round,

0:08:28 > 0:08:30it should be a nice bit of papier mache.

0:08:30 > 0:08:32In fact, Linds, it will look a little bit like...

0:08:32 > 0:08:35- Oh.- Whoa!- Whoa, nearly lost it. - Reactions there.

0:08:35 > 0:08:38So, what we've done here is we've got two layers of papier mache.

0:08:38 > 0:08:40We let each layer dry before adding the second one.

0:08:40 > 0:08:43And you can see just here, we've put a little bit of a gap there.

0:08:43 > 0:08:45The reason for that gap is very simple.

0:08:45 > 0:08:47That is were we add our treats and our sweets.

0:08:47 > 0:08:49- Linds, you're excited. - Yeah. Can I do the fun bit?

0:08:49 > 0:08:51This is basically where you get to pop your balloon.

0:08:51 > 0:08:53And it should, fingers crossed...

0:08:53 > 0:08:56- OK, this could genuinely go wrong. - We are live.- Go on, Linds!

0:08:56 > 0:08:58Let's see if it keeps its sturdy shape.

0:08:58 > 0:08:59- Nice.- Hello!

0:08:59 > 0:09:01Well, that went...

0:09:01 > 0:09:02Come on! ..incredibly well.

0:09:02 > 0:09:04Grab a grown-up to help you with that bit

0:09:04 > 0:09:06just in case it doesn't quite go right.

0:09:06 > 0:09:09- Shall we now fill it?- Yeah, let's fill it with treats and sweets.

0:09:09 > 0:09:12So, these sweets are a bit special because we've actually made these.

0:09:12 > 0:09:14These are Blue Peter's very own sweets.

0:09:14 > 0:09:16To find out how to make those,

0:09:16 > 0:09:18simply jump onto the Blue Peter website.

0:09:18 > 0:09:20- I'll start filling right now. - Chuck them in. As well as that,

0:09:20 > 0:09:22you might not always want sweets.

0:09:22 > 0:09:25We've made origami little butterflies and flowers here.

0:09:25 > 0:09:27There's stars, there's a bit of everything.

0:09:27 > 0:09:29So, let's chuck those in because

0:09:29 > 0:09:32then it looks nice and pretty, doesn't it, when it bursts open?

0:09:32 > 0:09:34And I think, out of both of them, that's the one you want.

0:09:34 > 0:09:36Yeah, cos then it'll burst open.

0:09:36 > 0:09:38- Let me get some stars in. - OK.- There we go.

0:09:38 > 0:09:41- Are we good?- Yeah, we're good. - Linds, hang on.- Yeah?

0:09:41 > 0:09:44- Because we need to hang it.- Oh. Good.- Did you see what I did there?

0:09:44 > 0:09:46- It needs to hang up. - Kind of. Not sure it works.

0:09:46 > 0:09:48And this is where the pencil and the string comes in.

0:09:48 > 0:09:50So, just beneath the gap there,

0:09:50 > 0:09:52I'm going to put my fingers underneath the hole

0:09:52 > 0:09:55- and then I'm going to press inside like so.- Nicely done.

0:09:55 > 0:09:57Once you've gone all the way through...

0:09:57 > 0:09:59It's worth grabbing a grown-up at this stage

0:09:59 > 0:10:01- cos it can be a bit tricky. - Hey, that's good!

0:10:01 > 0:10:04The pencil goes horizontal and you can see we can hang it.

0:10:04 > 0:10:07- We're definitely getting there. There's a little problem.- Go on.

0:10:07 > 0:10:09Does this look like Shelley to you guys?

0:10:09 > 0:10:11- ALL:- No. - No, I didn't think so, not really.

0:10:11 > 0:10:13What we need to do is make it look more Shelley-like.

0:10:13 > 0:10:15So, to do that, with my cardboard, as you can see,

0:10:15 > 0:10:17and some recycled stuff,

0:10:17 > 0:10:19I've just cut out these little hexagons like so.

0:10:19 > 0:10:22They don't need to be neat as long as they've got six sides.

0:10:22 > 0:10:24And then, with a bit of sticky tape like so,

0:10:24 > 0:10:26- we're just going to stick them on.- Nice.

0:10:26 > 0:10:28So, I'll put one at the front there.

0:10:28 > 0:10:31And then a top tip that you can do is get a slightly bigger one

0:10:31 > 0:10:34and this is how you can cover your hole up.

0:10:34 > 0:10:35Can you see what I'm doing there?

0:10:35 > 0:10:39Cover it up and that means that all our sweeties won't fall out.

0:10:39 > 0:10:42There we go. Radz, it still doesn't look like Shelley, does it?

0:10:42 > 0:10:45Exactly. We've got the body, but what about the legs and head?

0:10:45 > 0:10:48That is where our cups come in. So, we've got four cups here.

0:10:48 > 0:10:51We've also got a yogurt pot and these will form...

0:10:51 > 0:10:53- Ah, little leggies. - Yes indeedy-doodly.

0:10:53 > 0:10:54- There you go.- Legs.

0:10:54 > 0:10:57And then once we've put the body on top and the head on like so...

0:10:57 > 0:10:59Barney, we can see you stealing sweeties.

0:10:59 > 0:11:01..and stuck with sticky tape all the way round,

0:11:01 > 0:11:04we'll have a Shelley which looks a bit like this.

0:11:04 > 0:11:05Like this one! There you go.

0:11:05 > 0:11:07Does that look a bit more like Shelley now?

0:11:07 > 0:11:08We're getting there, aren't we?

0:11:08 > 0:11:11And you can see we've put another layer of papier mache all over,

0:11:11 > 0:11:14but a top tip is don't make it too thick.

0:11:14 > 0:11:15You don't want to put too much on

0:11:15 > 0:11:18because otherwise, Shelley's belly won't give you loads of sweets.

0:11:18 > 0:11:21- Shelley's belly.- I like what you did there.- Yeah, it was nice.

0:11:21 > 0:11:23So, what do you think is missing here, guys?

0:11:23 > 0:11:26- Is it beginning with P and ending in- -aint? Yes.

0:11:26 > 0:11:28- Absolutely.- I think it might be.

0:11:28 > 0:11:30So, I'll turn Shelley over and I'm going to paint...

0:11:30 > 0:11:32Barney's taken so many sweets.

0:11:32 > 0:11:34You guys can have some after, as well, don't worry.

0:11:34 > 0:11:37- I didn't even notice Barney did that, by the way.- He's taken loads.

0:11:37 > 0:11:40Right, let's do her little belly there.

0:11:40 > 0:11:42Oh, and let's get that kind of dirty paint colour on.

0:11:42 > 0:11:44There we go. You can get creative with this bit.

0:11:44 > 0:11:47To be honest, you could make a multicoloured Shelley.

0:11:47 > 0:11:48It really doesn't matter.

0:11:48 > 0:11:51But once you've gone all the way over her and let her dry,

0:11:51 > 0:11:52she should look something like...

0:11:52 > 0:11:54Can I get a round of applause, please?

0:11:54 > 0:11:57- Shelley pinata!- Yes! - APPLAUSE

0:11:57 > 0:11:58That is pretty good, isn't it?

0:11:58 > 0:12:01- She's looking awesome.- I like that. - If you want to make your own,

0:12:01 > 0:12:03why don't you head onto the Fan Club afterwards?

0:12:03 > 0:12:06You can see Radzi and I when we're just having a go.

0:12:06 > 0:12:08- A little Shelley party. - I made a boo-boo.

0:12:08 > 0:12:12- I made a boo-boo when I might have hit Shelley.- Oh, no.- Yeah.- Oh, dear.

0:12:12 > 0:12:14But, actually, this is where we want you to grab a grown-up

0:12:14 > 0:12:18and record yourself having a go at breaking open your Shelley pinata.

0:12:18 > 0:12:19Once you've done that,

0:12:19 > 0:12:21upload it onto the Blue Peter website. We love it.

0:12:21 > 0:12:23- You want to do it right now. - Actually, yeah!

0:12:23 > 0:12:26No, I'm going to hang onto her. You can't just yet, Radzi,

0:12:26 > 0:12:29because all the details you need on how to make your Shelley pinata

0:12:29 > 0:12:30are online...

0:12:33 > 0:12:35There you have it - your very own Shelley pinata.

0:12:35 > 0:12:37I'm keeping her safe.

0:12:37 > 0:12:39OK, let's take a look at the big Badge Wall -

0:12:46 > 0:12:49We could talk about it for hours. We have this in from Jessica.

0:12:49 > 0:12:52- It's a 3D money box all the way from Horsham.- Aw.

0:12:52 > 0:12:53It's very clever,

0:12:53 > 0:12:55not just because it's 3-D, but because, on the back,

0:12:55 > 0:12:58- she's used a milk bottle top that you can unscrew...- Aw!

0:12:58 > 0:13:01- All your money out.- ..and take the money out. How amazing is that?

0:13:01 > 0:13:03Radzi, you put the money in and I'll just take it out.

0:13:03 > 0:13:06- Jessica, you're a genius. Thank you very much.- Tom from Dorset

0:13:06 > 0:13:08has done this amazing picture of Shelley. I love it.

0:13:33 > 0:13:35"But which one would you want to be?"

0:13:35 > 0:13:37We all know the answer to that one - Radzi.

0:13:37 > 0:13:39"All of them work their magic on viewers afar

0:13:39 > 0:13:41"As they glue you to the TV like you're stuck in tar."

0:13:41 > 0:13:43We love stuff like this. Keep it coming.

0:13:55 > 0:13:59Well done, you. And thank you, everyone, for sending in your post.

0:14:21 > 0:14:23and we don't want you to be disappointed.

0:14:23 > 0:14:24And now check this out.

0:14:27 > 0:14:30I've been set a very important mission.

0:14:32 > 0:14:36To show you some of the ways you can earn a Blue Peter silver badge.

0:14:37 > 0:14:41And I'm using your amazing post to help me do it.

0:14:41 > 0:14:45But before we get started, I've got to tell you something. Come closer.

0:14:45 > 0:14:47Closer. OK, personal space.

0:14:47 > 0:14:50To get a silver badge, you need to have one of these first.

0:14:50 > 0:14:52And then you have to do something different

0:14:52 > 0:14:55to what you did to get this to get this. Simple.

0:14:55 > 0:14:57You could, for example, write a story.

0:14:57 > 0:14:59Well, as long as you didn't write a story

0:14:59 > 0:15:01for your first Blue Peter badge, just like Alice did.

0:15:01 > 0:15:05Or a poem. Thank you, Tyler. And you, too, Rosa.

0:15:05 > 0:15:07I love a good story. In fact, this is my favourite.

0:15:11 > 0:15:14Dum-dee-dum-dee-dum.

0:15:14 > 0:15:15A little bit here.

0:15:15 > 0:15:18A little bit there.

0:15:18 > 0:15:21Or you could send us an arty masterpiece.

0:15:21 > 0:15:24You never know, it might end up on our Badge Wall.

0:15:24 > 0:15:27Freya from Darlington has sent in this wonderful bit of post.

0:15:27 > 0:15:30It's a lovely kind of bunting. It's made out of heart designs.

0:15:30 > 0:15:32You're very clever, Freya. Well done.

0:15:32 > 0:15:35Lindsey's going to love this. I've got the eyes just right.

0:15:35 > 0:15:37And it's not just pictures.

0:15:37 > 0:15:41You could get inventive, like Amelia, Molly and Ruby,

0:15:41 > 0:15:43and create your own make,

0:15:43 > 0:15:45something that you MAKE look really easy.

0:15:47 > 0:15:49There are a load of things you can do.

0:15:49 > 0:15:51How about a sponsored silence?

0:15:52 > 0:15:55WIND BLOWS

0:16:00 > 0:16:03Need more inspiration? Well, for their silver badges,

0:16:03 > 0:16:06Matthew and Adita took part in an organ-playing marathon

0:16:06 > 0:16:09and Claire created this Blue Peter collage.

0:16:09 > 0:16:11So, however you decide to earn your silver badge,

0:16:11 > 0:16:13just remember to do something different

0:16:13 > 0:16:16to what you did when you got your blue one. Simple.

0:16:16 > 0:16:19Well, after all that, I think I deserve a rest.

0:16:19 > 0:16:22So, it's a good job Kizzy got her silver badge

0:16:22 > 0:16:23for sending in this pillow.

0:16:23 > 0:16:24Night-night.

0:16:27 > 0:16:29Now, though, another silver badge journey,

0:16:29 > 0:16:33but this time, a little bit further - into space.

0:16:33 > 0:16:34Wow!

0:16:34 > 0:16:36Is there nowhere the BP badge won't go?

0:16:40 > 0:16:4511.03am on the 15th of December 2015.

0:16:45 > 0:16:48Major Tim Peake blasts off complete with his mission patch -

0:16:48 > 0:16:50designed by Blue Peter viewer Troy -

0:16:50 > 0:16:53to take his place on the International Space Station

0:16:53 > 0:16:58where he'll be living and working for a total of six months.

0:17:00 > 0:17:05Right now, Tim Peake is orbiting the Earth 250 miles that way,

0:17:05 > 0:17:09and the people that look after him, well, they're just in there.

0:17:10 > 0:17:13Oh, did I not say I'm in Germany?

0:17:13 > 0:17:16And that that is THE control centre for Tim Peake's mission?

0:17:16 > 0:17:18I probably should have said that, shouldn't I?

0:17:18 > 0:17:20Because it's Blue Peter, we've got unique access

0:17:20 > 0:17:22to go inside and see how it all works.

0:17:22 > 0:17:24You're invited, as well. Did I not say that?

0:17:24 > 0:17:27I probably should have done. It's good, isn't it?

0:17:27 > 0:17:31Since he lifted off, Britain has been gripped by Tim's mission,

0:17:31 > 0:17:32and I am, too,

0:17:32 > 0:17:36so to be given the chance to see behind the scenes of mission control

0:17:36 > 0:17:38is a real privilege.

0:17:38 > 0:17:40Now, you may recognise this place from all the space movies

0:17:40 > 0:17:43that you've seen, but this isn't a movie set.

0:17:43 > 0:17:45This is the real thing.

0:17:45 > 0:17:47This is the control centre for the Columbus module

0:17:47 > 0:17:52that Tim Peake is inside right now in space.

0:17:52 > 0:17:55The International Space Station speeds around the Earth

0:17:55 > 0:17:58at over 17,000mph,

0:17:58 > 0:18:00so it takes a team of flight directors down on the ground

0:18:00 > 0:18:03to make sure everything runs smoothly in his module.

0:18:04 > 0:18:08And the first person I'm going to meet is one of them, Gurman.

0:18:08 > 0:18:10Can you tell us what a flight director does?

0:18:10 > 0:18:13Yeah, I mean, it's a pretty interesting and cool thing

0:18:13 > 0:18:14that we are doing here.

0:18:14 > 0:18:18We are in control of this module, so we are responsible to maintain

0:18:18 > 0:18:20everything which is going on in this module.

0:18:20 > 0:18:23And we are also telling Tim what kind of experiments he has to do,

0:18:23 > 0:18:25so that is our job.

0:18:25 > 0:18:28This is the position controlling, actually, the module,

0:18:28 > 0:18:30so, sending commands, opening valves,

0:18:30 > 0:18:34controlling the temperature that the astronauts are feeling,

0:18:34 > 0:18:38that the atmosphere, the oxygen that they are breathing is OK.

0:18:39 > 0:18:42On the 15th of January this year, Tim Peake became the first British

0:18:42 > 0:18:44European Space Agency astronaut

0:18:44 > 0:18:47to perform what the guys here call an EVA,

0:18:47 > 0:18:48or a space walk to you and me.

0:18:50 > 0:18:54When they do a space walk, that then goes somewhere else, doesn't it?

0:18:54 > 0:18:57Yeah. I mean, this is being controlled from Houston,

0:18:57 > 0:18:58which is in America,

0:18:58 > 0:19:02and that is the main control centre for the space station.

0:19:02 > 0:19:05Tim and his crew mate had to stop their space walk early

0:19:05 > 0:19:07because one of their helmets was leaking.

0:19:07 > 0:19:11So, things do go wrong and it's the mission director who is responsible

0:19:11 > 0:19:13for making sure Tim is OK.

0:19:13 > 0:19:16For the Columbus module, that's Bertie.

0:19:16 > 0:19:18- So, you're in charge?- Yes, I am.

0:19:18 > 0:19:20Are you happy with what he's been doing in space?

0:19:20 > 0:19:22Oh, he's fantastic.

0:19:22 > 0:19:26He's a fantastic team worker. He's always in a good mood.

0:19:26 > 0:19:28There's also many tasks he has to do.

0:19:28 > 0:19:32Each minute is planned out in his stay.

0:19:32 > 0:19:33How do you communicate with Tim?

0:19:33 > 0:19:36Because it's not like you can just pick up the phone.

0:19:36 > 0:19:40But he can. When he has a certain coverage with the satellites,

0:19:40 > 0:19:43he can pick up the phone and call me on my mobile,

0:19:43 > 0:19:45and he calls me in my office.

0:19:45 > 0:19:48- That's really cool, isn't it?- Yeah. - To get a call from space?- Yes.

0:19:51 > 0:19:54Every Thursday around midday, the control centre here in Munich

0:19:54 > 0:19:56gets in touch with the International Space Station

0:19:56 > 0:19:59to transfer information and just make sure everyone's OK.

0:19:59 > 0:20:01Wait a minute, today's Thursday.

0:20:03 > 0:20:05It's around midday.

0:20:06 > 0:20:09I can't quite believe I'm saying this,

0:20:09 > 0:20:11but the team here have allowed me to sit in

0:20:11 > 0:20:13on one of their crew conferences.

0:20:13 > 0:20:15- TELEPHONE:- 'Yes, this is Houston contact.

0:20:15 > 0:20:18- 'Are you ready for the conference?' - And we are ready.

0:20:18 > 0:20:21I don't know why, but as we wait for the call to come through,

0:20:21 > 0:20:22I'm really nervous.

0:20:22 > 0:20:24And then, all of a sudden,

0:20:24 > 0:20:28I get the once-in-a-lifetime chance to talk to space.

0:20:28 > 0:20:31- TELEPHONE:- 'Munich station on space to ground 44.'

0:20:31 > 0:20:33Tim, it's Barney. It's so good to see you. How are you?

0:20:33 > 0:20:35Hello, Barney, and hi to Blue Peter.

0:20:35 > 0:20:37How is it up there?

0:20:37 > 0:20:39Life on board is wonderful.

0:20:39 > 0:20:41We've already had two EVAs,

0:20:41 > 0:20:44one of which I was able to go outside the space station on.

0:20:44 > 0:20:46I'm being kept very busy

0:20:46 > 0:20:49and of course, when we do get the odd five-minute break,

0:20:49 > 0:20:52just going to the windows and looking down on planet Earth

0:20:52 > 0:20:53is absolutely spectacular.

0:20:53 > 0:20:56Obviously, you're wearing a Blue Peter badge.

0:20:56 > 0:20:58We would love to see what would happen to that badge

0:20:58 > 0:21:00if it was to be in an anti-gravity environment.

0:21:00 > 0:21:03- Can you float that for us?- I've got another badge here for you -

0:21:03 > 0:21:06another Blue Peter badge - so I'm going to put that up by the camera

0:21:06 > 0:21:09and show you what happens and it's just going to float around.

0:21:09 > 0:21:13Now, the thing with small objects like this that don't have much mass

0:21:13 > 0:21:16is they float around really easily.

0:21:16 > 0:21:19You know, you let go of them for two minutes and look away

0:21:19 > 0:21:21and they're gone, they'll go all over the place.

0:21:21 > 0:21:23Listen, it's been so good to speak to you

0:21:23 > 0:21:25and we'll see you when you land. Thanks a lot.

0:21:25 > 0:21:27Fantastic, Barney. Great speaking to you, too,

0:21:27 > 0:21:31and, yeah, I look forward to seeing you when I get back. Bye now.

0:21:35 > 0:21:38Hands down my favourite moment on Blue Peter ever.

0:21:38 > 0:21:41When did you ever see a Blue Peter badge spinning in space?

0:21:41 > 0:21:44- Incredible.- Tim Peake, we salute you, sir.- Yes, sir.

0:21:44 > 0:21:46Barney, do you also like the bit when,

0:21:46 > 0:21:48to do something different, I used my tush on TV?

0:21:48 > 0:21:51You cannot point to your bottom and say the word tush on telly, Radzi.

0:21:51 > 0:21:53- It was for a world record, though.- All right.

0:21:53 > 0:21:57So, to bring to a crescendo the Summer Badge Baton Relay Challenge,

0:21:57 > 0:22:01- shall we end it on a bum note? - Well done. Whoopee.- Watch this.

0:22:01 > 0:22:05OK, Radzi, you will be attempting the official Guinness World Record

0:22:05 > 0:22:09title for most whoopee cushions sat on in one minute.

0:22:09 > 0:22:12- And the record set is 80. - That's a lot.

0:22:12 > 0:22:14The important rules to remember are -

0:22:14 > 0:22:17you must sit on the whoopee cushions individually,

0:22:17 > 0:22:20only whoopee cushions that make a raspberry-style noise

0:22:20 > 0:22:22will be counted, and very importantly...

0:22:22 > 0:22:24- SHE BLOWS RASPBERRY - ..any whoopee cushion

0:22:24 > 0:22:27that's exploded or teared will not count towards your total.

0:22:27 > 0:22:30- See, that's the bit that makes it hard.- That's hard.

0:22:30 > 0:22:31Do you know what? It's not just that bit.

0:22:31 > 0:22:33It's the fact I've got to do 80.

0:22:33 > 0:22:36- My legs are going to be so tight. - It's a lot of squats.

0:22:36 > 0:22:37It's a lot of squats, this.

0:22:37 > 0:22:39We should say this - it has been attempted before,

0:22:39 > 0:22:41but just for 30 seconds.

0:22:41 > 0:22:44It was on CBBC's Officially Amazing with the gorgeous Ben Shires,

0:22:44 > 0:22:47but we're going to try and do it today for 60 seconds,

0:22:47 > 0:22:49- aren't we, Radz? - With the gorgeous Radzi.

0:22:49 > 0:22:51Wish me luck at home, please. Cheer along.

0:22:51 > 0:22:54- Go for it. He's genuinely nervous, isn't he?- He really is.

0:22:54 > 0:22:57Get yourself ready. Alan's going to follow him because we would normally
