7:06:17 > 7:06:21So, what are you waiting for?

7:06:32 > 7:06:35Oh, Radz! You need to chill. We've got to go through the rules.
7:06:35 > 7:06:38- I've got to talk about details.- OK.
7:06:38 > 7:06:40First of all you need to design TWO mascots.
7:06:40 > 7:06:42They each need to have a name.
7:06:42 > 7:06:44One mascot for each of the Championships.
7:06:44 > 7:06:47The mascots need to get along and they need to encourage each other
7:06:47 > 7:06:50- to try their best.- You can't copy anybody else's mascot.
7:06:50 > 7:06:51That would be silly.
7:06:51 > 7:06:53You want it to be YOUR design that wins,
7:06:53 > 7:06:55so it needs to be original and unique to you.
7:06:55 > 7:06:57That also means you can't copy anything Blue Peter-y.
7:06:57 > 7:07:00That's a new word. You can't copy the ship, the presenters or logo.
7:07:00 > 7:07:04- In fact, any logo at all.- Let's talk about more musts and must-nots.
7:07:04 > 7:07:07You cannot favour a particular country with design or colour.
7:07:07 > 7:07:11It must be bold, creative
7:07:11 > 7:07:14and, in an off-the-charts way, in love with athletics.
7:07:14 > 7:07:17- That's official.- So many rules. This is one of the last ones.
7:07:17 > 7:07:21You'll need to send it by post by 12 noon on February 10th.
7:07:21 > 7:07:24That is really important that you get it to us on time.
7:07:24 > 7:07:28If you're sending it in a large envelope, like the one I have here,
7:07:28 > 7:07:31you will need a large letter stamp.
7:07:31 > 7:07:33That's really important. You don't want to get it wrong.
7:07:33 > 7:07:35You will be disqualified and we'll be upset.
7:07:35 > 7:07:39Your mascot could be picked by the World ParaAthletics or the IAAF
7:07:39 > 7:07:42World Championships London 2017, two of the biggest events on the planet.
7:07:42 > 7:07:44This is very exciting.
7:07:44 > 7:07:46If you've missed the details or just want to go through them again,
7:07:46 > 7:07:49go to the Blue Peter website. They're all there for you.
7:07:49 > 7:07:51I think this competition needs some superstar judges.
7:07:51 > 7:07:54- Bring them back, Linds.- Please welcome back Jess and Richard.

7:08:12 > 7:08:14- How do you feel about it? - Yeah, so excited.
7:08:14 > 7:08:17This year I'm retired, so I won't get to compete.
7:08:17 > 7:08:19To be on the panel with Richard
7:08:19 > 7:08:22and picking the winner for the mascot is so exciting.
7:08:22 > 7:08:24It's really good news for everybody else you've retired because they
7:08:24 > 7:08:26have a chance.
7:08:26 > 7:08:28Richard, not only have you won silver and gold at Rio,

7:08:42 > 7:08:44Usain Bolt,
7:08:44 > 7:08:46and obviously myself in the Para event.
7:08:46 > 7:08:50- So hopefully I can bring back more silverware.- We think you can.
7:08:50 > 7:08:53Jess, will you be a scary judge?
7:08:53 > 7:08:55What are you looking for with this competition?
7:08:55 > 7:08:57- I'm not going to be a scary judge. - Good.
7:08:57 > 7:09:01We're looking for people to be really creative.
7:09:01 > 7:09:02They've got to be bold,
7:09:02 > 7:09:06they've got to love athletics and both mascots have to be friends.
7:09:06 > 7:09:09- They've got to interact. - We like that.- Get designing.
7:09:09 > 7:09:11Anyone watching who thinks this is up their street, a huge good luck.

7:09:25 > 7:09:27Hi, my name's Poppy.
7:09:27 > 7:09:31I wanted to see some Olympians and Paralympians on Blue Peter.
7:09:31 > 7:09:35My question is - athletes have their highs and lows.
7:09:35 > 7:09:37What inspires you through your lows?
7:09:38 > 7:09:40A great question, Poppy.
7:09:40 > 7:09:43I am glad she wants to see more Olympians and Paralympians
7:09:43 > 7:09:44on the television.
7:09:44 > 7:09:46It's great. For me, when you are at your low,
7:09:46 > 7:09:49you need to have lots of positiveness around you.
7:09:49 > 7:09:52It's really important to have the positive people around you
7:09:52 > 7:09:55to support you, to have more success.
7:09:55 > 7:09:59Jess, a question for you from the cutest person on the planet, Evie.
7:09:59 > 7:10:02Hi, Jessica. My name is Evie.
7:10:02 > 7:10:07On my Purple Badge form I asked to see you as a guest on Blue Peter.

7:10:17 > 7:10:19I would love him to do athletics,

7:10:21 > 7:10:24I will guide him into sport gently. Thank you for your question.
7:10:24 > 7:10:27And make him do lots of athletics.
7:10:27 > 7:10:30This is where we cut to a shot of Reggie when he's 16 playing guitar
7:10:30 > 7:10:32in his bedroom. I really hope so. Anyway, good luck to everybody.
7:10:32 > 7:10:35I hope you get involved and really enjoy yourselves.
7:10:35 > 7:10:37Don't forget, it has to be original and unique to you.
7:10:37 > 7:10:39We love to hear what you think about the show.
7:10:39 > 7:10:43Nancy got in touch via her Purple Badge form and had a simple request.

7:10:47 > 7:10:49Hi, I'm Nancy.
7:10:49 > 7:10:52On my Purple Badge form I said I wanted to see more kids on the show,

7:10:56 > 7:11:01Thanks, Nancy. Lately we've been having a great time on Blue Peter.
7:11:01 > 7:11:03We've seen daring challenges,
7:11:03 > 7:11:07world records and even gravity-defying magic.
7:11:07 > 7:11:09How does he do that?!
7:11:09 > 7:11:12And you've been using your Purple Badge forms to tell us
7:11:12 > 7:11:15exactly what you thought of it all.
7:11:15 > 7:11:16That is so funny!
7:11:16 > 7:11:20But what happens when you put some BP fans in some front of some
7:11:20 > 7:11:23of our recent best bits?
7:11:23 > 7:11:26We begin with a classic Blue Peter world record attempt.
7:11:26 > 7:11:29This is the record for the most badges pinned on a person
7:11:29 > 7:11:31- in one minute.- Easy.
7:11:31 > 7:11:35All have to be completely and correctly pinned in the time.
7:11:35 > 7:11:37They're not real Blue Peter badges.
7:11:37 > 7:11:39Yes, they are.
7:11:39 > 7:11:41Three...two...one...go!
7:11:41 > 7:11:43I'm so shaky.
7:11:43 > 7:11:46- Does she have to put the back part on as well?- Mm-hm.
7:11:46 > 7:11:50- Oh, one went flying! - One of them's fallen off. Oh, no!
7:11:50 > 7:11:53Four...three...two...one.
7:11:56 > 7:11:58- Well done. - You managed a total of 22!
7:12:00 > 7:12:01Wow!
7:12:01 > 7:12:04- 22?- 22.
7:12:04 > 7:12:05She shouldn't get it! He should!
7:12:05 > 7:12:08Oy, I give that attempt everything
7:12:08 > 7:12:13and the same can be said for Radzi when he took on water-skiing.
7:12:13 > 7:12:14Oh, I love this one.
7:12:14 > 7:12:18Putting the tricks together against the clock and in front of the judges
7:12:18 > 7:12:21is going to be so tough.
7:12:21 > 7:12:23What kind of stretch is that?
7:12:23 > 7:12:28Fortunately, I'm allowed one quick practice to get myself ready.
7:12:28 > 7:12:34- It must be scary doing it.- As I try one of the 180-degree turns...
7:12:35 > 7:12:39I thought that would be good then. He tripped straight into the water.
7:12:39 > 7:12:42OK, Radzi, one last chance. Come on!
7:12:42 > 7:12:44He's got to do it this time.
7:12:44 > 7:12:46Come on, Radzi.
7:12:46 > 7:12:50- That is one.- Whoa!- One hand off.
7:12:50 > 7:12:53I've started the turn. Can I get all the way around?
7:12:53 > 7:12:57- I've made it!- He's done it. He's actually done it.
7:12:57 > 7:13:00Yes! Yes! Yes!
7:13:00 > 7:13:03And if seeing Blue Peter presenters trying desperately not to fall over
7:13:03 > 7:13:07is your thing, then our Children In Need spectacular was for you.
7:13:07 > 7:13:11- She's only a kid! - I wonder how old she is?
7:13:11 > 7:13:14You are thinking there's no way we are able to do that...
7:13:14 > 7:13:17You're absolutely right. We're not. It's ridiculous.
7:13:17 > 7:13:19- But we are going to give it a go. - Oh, they're going to give it a go.
7:13:19 > 7:13:21They're not going to be able to do that.
7:13:21 > 7:13:26The person with the least votes will face the ultimate punishment!
7:13:26 > 7:13:28Goo!
7:13:28 > 7:13:31Come on, Lindsay.
7:13:31 > 7:13:33Whoa! Whoa! Whoa!
7:13:35 > 7:13:38- I got it, I got it.- Whoa!

7:13:45 > 7:13:49- Who would you vote for? - I don't know. They are all terrible!
7:13:49 > 7:13:51Four...three...two...one.
7:13:51 > 7:13:53Go!
7:13:55 > 7:13:57Eurgh!
7:13:57 > 7:13:58Ooh!
7:13:58 > 7:14:01He looks like me when I'm in the shower.
7:14:01 > 7:14:03Radzi, you legend.
7:14:03 > 7:14:05While we're on the subject of legends,
7:14:05 > 7:14:07how about magician Jamie Raven?
7:14:07 > 7:14:10- This is magic.- Oh, my gosh!
7:14:13 > 7:14:16- Whoa!- How's he doing that?
7:14:16 > 7:14:20He's just unravelled that cup and there's milk!
7:14:20 > 7:14:22I was wondering if you could help me out to try and inspire the
7:14:22 > 7:14:25next generation of magicians and do it right here now?
7:14:25 > 7:14:28I would absolutely love to. It would be an honour. OK.
7:14:28 > 7:14:31I would say, "No me, I'm not going to do this, thank you very much."
7:14:31 > 7:14:33I wonder what he's going to do now?
7:14:36 > 7:14:39- Oh, my word!- Maybe there's some kind of air in it?
7:14:39 > 7:14:42That just looked awesome.
7:14:44 > 7:14:47If it is magic, that is good!
7:14:47 > 7:14:51No matter how many times I see that, I still can't believe it happened.
7:14:52 > 7:14:56And speaking of I can't believe it happened moments, I give you one of
7:14:56 > 7:15:00the most famous challenges in Blue Peter's epic history - wing walking.
7:15:00 > 7:15:04You will be standing on the wing and passing that baton.
7:15:04 > 7:15:07So Lindsey is passing it to Radzi.
7:15:07 > 7:15:11- They need to be so exact in their flying.- Look at his face!
7:15:12 > 7:15:15Let's not forget, I'm upside down.
7:15:15 > 7:15:17I feel sorry for Lindsey having to go upside down.
7:15:17 > 7:15:20Are we going to do it? Come on!
7:15:21 > 7:15:23Go on, just let go.
7:15:23 > 7:15:25Come on, oh!
7:15:25 > 7:15:27I just don't know if we're ever going to get this right.
7:15:27 > 7:15:29This is our last chance.
7:15:32 > 7:15:34- Yes!- Yeah!
7:15:36 > 7:15:38They did it!
7:15:40 > 7:15:43So that's what they thought, but what about you?
7:15:43 > 7:15:46Download your Purple Badge form to tell us what you think
7:15:46 > 7:15:50and YOU could earn your very own Purple Badge.
7:15:50 > 7:15:52CHEERING AND APPLAUSE
7:15:52 > 7:15:55Such a great film. Such brilliant reactions.
7:15:55 > 7:15:57Just to see Radzi's cheeks wobbling on screen.
7:15:57 > 7:16:00Let's look at the big Blue Peter Badge Wall.
7:16:00 > 7:16:03It's special this week - a Purple Badge wall.
7:16:03 > 7:16:05Let's start up here with Saskia.
7:16:05 > 7:16:07She thinks the presenters could mention more names
7:16:07 > 7:16:10on the Big Badge Wall or label them. Saskia, just for you, we have.
7:16:10 > 7:16:14- Dreams can come true. - Let's talk about George.
7:16:14 > 7:16:19George is an inspirational best friend because he has three badges.
7:16:19 > 7:16:21He said to his best friend he thinks you should apply for
7:16:21 > 7:16:24a Blue Peter badge because they are a special achievement,
7:16:24 > 7:16:27and the very person he said that to now has four badges.
7:16:27 > 7:16:31- George, a round of applause. - Good. Well done, George.
7:16:31 > 7:16:34Zara, you are my favourite little lady. Let's look at this.
7:16:34 > 7:16:38You say I wish the fan club was open to send messages every day,
7:16:38 > 7:16:39that would be awesome.
7:16:39 > 7:16:43I think that is a new Green badge she has.
7:16:43 > 7:16:44Zara, you legend.
7:16:44 > 7:16:48Scott says he misses me when I'm away because I make it funnier.
7:16:48 > 7:16:50Scott, you are a legend. Just for you, a joke.
7:16:50 > 7:16:52Everyone here is going to join in.
7:16:52 > 7:16:54- Knock knock.- Who's there?- Done up.
7:16:54 > 7:16:58- Done up who?- That's disgusting! Thank you, I'm here all week.
7:16:58 > 7:17:02Iris said that Lindsey can be really cheeky sometimes.
7:17:02 > 7:17:05Take a look at this shot. You don't know the half of it.
7:17:05 > 7:17:09Thank you so much to anyone who sent us in a comment.
7:17:09 > 7:17:11Remember, if you get a BP badge,
7:17:11 > 7:17:16you can get into over 200 attractions across the UK for free.
7:17:16 > 7:17:19Even the director was joining in there.
7:17:19 > 7:17:21Do check the website, though, cos the offers change.
7:17:21 > 7:17:22OK, now it's time for a big moment.
7:17:22 > 7:17:25It's time to announce January's Fan Of The Month.
7:17:25 > 7:17:28For being a lovely person and inviting people to the fan club,
7:17:28 > 7:17:30making sure they're welcome when they're there,
7:17:30 > 7:17:33for talking them through how the Fan Club Hour works and generally
7:17:33 > 7:17:36being a nice person, let's help us with Brad from the Vamps,
7:17:36 > 7:17:38Jess and Richard to announce this Fan of The Month.
7:17:38 > 7:17:41Here we go. The winner is...
7:17:41 > 7:17:43- Pink.- Sparkly.- Football!
7:17:45 > 7:17:48Congratulations to you if you are watching, I'm sure you are.
7:17:48 > 7:17:53Now, over to a Purple Badge holder, it's Jake. Take it away.
7:17:54 > 7:17:58Hi, I'm Jake, and on my Purple Badge form, I asked to see animation,
7:17:58 > 7:18:02so here's a film about Kubo And The Two Strings.
7:18:03 > 7:18:07My name is Kubo. This is my story.
7:18:07 > 7:18:09Our enemies aren't far behind.
7:18:09 > 7:18:12Your magic is the only thing that can protect us.
7:18:12 > 7:18:15- You need to learn control. - Release!
7:18:15 > 7:18:19'Set in Japan, Kubo And The Two Strings tells the story of
7:18:19 > 7:18:23'a young boy who goes on a thrilling quest to save his family.'
7:18:23 > 7:18:27- Don't touch anything.- He did it.
7:18:28 > 7:18:30'What makes the film so special,
7:18:30 > 7:18:35'it's created using something called stop-motion animation and I want to
7:18:35 > 7:18:39'find out more, so who better to talk to than its director
7:18:39 > 7:18:40'Travis Knight?'
7:18:40 > 7:18:44- Travis, first of all, it's a pleasure to meet you.- Likewise.
7:18:44 > 7:18:48When I first saw the trailer to this film, I presumed it was CGI,
7:18:48 > 7:18:50but it's not, is it?
7:18:50 > 7:18:54No, most animated films these days are made in a computer
7:18:54 > 7:18:57- but we make films in stop-motion. - What actually is stop-motion?
7:18:57 > 7:19:02It is simple, you have a puppet and the animator moves that puppet
7:19:02 > 7:19:05one frame at a time, takes a picture with the camera.
7:19:05 > 7:19:10They will move it a bit more, take another picture and on and on
7:19:10 > 7:19:12and eventually you take enough images and put them together and it
7:19:12 > 7:19:14looks like the thing is moving.
7:19:14 > 7:19:17How long did it take to make the film doing it like that?
7:19:17 > 7:19:21- It took us five years to make this movie.- Five years?
7:19:21 > 7:19:22Impressive.
7:19:22 > 7:19:26In terms of the characters we have here, how do you start making them?
7:19:26 > 7:19:27Are these made by machinery?
7:19:27 > 7:19:30They are all made by hand,
7:19:30 > 7:19:33so we start with clay to make the sculpture and then you make
7:19:33 > 7:19:36the skeleton, which is always made out of metal.
7:19:36 > 7:19:40So, Monkey, she's pretty squishy, you can see that she's soft,
7:19:40 > 7:19:44but her face is actually hard. It's a replacement face.
7:19:44 > 7:19:48The way we get the faces of these puppets is we have a series of
7:19:48 > 7:19:51these different expressions and we take them off and put them back on.
7:19:51 > 7:19:53Kubo's is more standard.
7:19:53 > 7:19:56His hair is made out of human hair
7:19:56 > 7:20:00that we can actually move one frame at a time and get it to look like
7:20:00 > 7:20:02it's blowing in the wind.
7:20:02 > 7:20:05'We know that some of you guys at home are big fans of
7:20:05 > 7:20:09'stop-motion animation because you've sent us some.'
7:20:09 > 7:20:12Two Blue Peter viewers who also love stop-motion are Daniel and Eleanor
7:20:12 > 7:20:15and they have given stop-motion a go themselves.
7:20:15 > 7:20:17They would love for you to see it.
7:20:17 > 7:20:21- Look, a tropical island, guys. - Can we explore?
7:20:21 > 7:20:23I wish we could, but we have no time.
7:20:23 > 7:20:26We have to get to the Arctic quickly.
7:20:26 > 7:20:29- A shark trying to interrupt!- Oh!
7:20:30 > 7:20:33He's done it! He won!
7:20:33 > 7:20:35That's pretty impressive. It's quite ambitious.
7:20:35 > 7:20:38That was way more ambitious than the things I did early on.
7:20:38 > 7:20:43'Daniel and Eleanor, you've impressed a Hollywood director.
7:20:43 > 7:20:46'It just goes to show, if you send your creations to Blue Peter
7:20:46 > 7:20:50'you never know who will see them.
7:20:50 > 7:20:54'And there's no way I'm leaving here without having a go myself.'
7:20:54 > 7:20:58Could I use stop-motion to maybe raise Kubo's hand,
7:20:58 > 7:21:01raise the badge up and we'll get to see that on the show?
7:21:01 > 7:21:04- You bet.- Amazing.- Give it a shot.
7:21:04 > 7:21:08All you have to do is grab his arm, give it a nudge and he'll move it.
7:21:08 > 7:21:11OK. It really is subtle.
7:21:11 > 7:21:14Your instinct is right, you are animating the hand and keeping
7:21:14 > 7:21:17the base stable, that is what we do as animators all the time.
7:21:17 > 7:21:19I'm really afraid of knocking it over!
7:21:21 > 7:21:25'And the result? Not bad. Now I just need five more years!'
7:21:26 > 7:21:29That was amazing, almost as amazing as Daniel and Eleanor's film.
7:21:29 > 7:21:31If you want to see the full version
7:21:31 > 7:21:33go to the breaking news section of the BP website.
7:21:33 > 7:21:35You two, well done, we love it.
7:21:35 > 7:21:38If you love films, stay tuned for a brand-new special coming your way
7:21:38 > 7:21:41about Lego Batman. Now on to our next guests.
7:21:41 > 7:21:44How would I explain how excited I am about this or how excited you
7:21:44 > 7:21:47would be? Well, let's leave that to Leah from Birmingham.
7:21:47 > 7:21:52Hi, I'm Leah and on Blue Peter, I requested to see The Vamps,
7:21:52 > 7:21:54and here they are!
7:21:54 > 7:21:56SHE SCREAMS
7:21:56 > 7:21:58Oh, yeah!

7:22:32 > 7:22:34but I have noticed a gap with your dancers.
7:22:34 > 7:22:37You might need one more dancer on your tour to even things up.
7:22:37 > 7:22:40Here is Dominic showing you what he has got.
7:22:44 > 7:22:45He's got a classic move there.
7:22:45 > 7:22:49I reckon if he comes across the stage mid-chorus...
7:22:49 > 7:22:51Dominic, well done, mate. All from our Purple Badge forms.
7:22:51 > 7:22:54Maybe Alice and her friends could bust some moves on your tour?
7:22:54 > 7:22:56Let's take a look at those.
7:23:05 > 7:23:09Can you imagine that to one of your choruses?
7:23:12 > 7:23:15That was on the spot. That's how talented these guys are.
7:23:15 > 7:23:17You are not here to show your dancing skills today.

7:23:30 > 7:23:32but they are now officially big-time.
7:23:32 > 7:23:35Let's talk about Spot Shelley. Last week, nobody spotted her.
7:23:35 > 7:23:38- Jess, did anyone manage it this time?- Yes.
