7:00:50 > 7:00:52They're clearly up for a laugh, as are we. And if you are,
7:00:52 > 7:00:54then you're going to love later on in the show,
7:00:54 > 7:00:58because we're getting help from you to assist with Red Nose Day.
7:00:58 > 7:01:01Also, I'm going to be taking some photos with Chris Packham.
7:01:01 > 7:01:03He's the legend that presents Winterwatch and he's going to be
7:01:03 > 7:01:05showing us how to capture wildlife in all of their glory.
7:01:05 > 7:01:08I loved that day with him. Thank you very much, Chris.
7:01:08 > 7:01:10As well as that, I am so starstruck and excited, because we're
7:01:10 > 7:01:14joined by the cost of Lemony Snicket's A Series Of Unfortunate
7:01:14 > 7:01:17Events and we're going to be playing a very unfortunate game.
7:01:17 > 7:01:18I can't say more than that.
7:01:18 > 7:01:21Speaking of games, you know who this is, it's Shelley.
7:01:21 > 7:01:23She's going to be hiding somewhere throughout the show.
7:01:23 > 7:01:25You've got to try and find her. We call it Spot Shelley.
7:01:25 > 7:01:29The first person to get in touch and know where she is wins £1 million!
7:01:29 > 7:01:30No, stop doing that.
7:01:30 > 7:01:33- But you do get a shout out, so it's worth getting involved.- Two million.
7:01:33 > 7:01:36Now, can we, please, dim the lights?
7:01:36 > 7:01:40- Yeah, please.- And just look. - Wow.- It's beautiful.
7:01:40 > 7:01:43Those gorgeous things are lanterns and they're on Blue Peter for
7:01:43 > 7:01:45a very good reason and that's because on Saturday,
7:01:45 > 7:01:48it will be the Lunar New Year.
7:01:48 > 7:01:51Now, the Lunar New Year is celebrated right the way
7:01:51 > 7:01:53across central and eastern Asia,
7:01:53 > 7:01:57and according to the Chinese Zodiac, it will be the year of the
7:01:57 > 7:02:00Rooster, and to help explain more, we have in the studio with us the
7:02:00 > 7:02:04creative director of the Magical Lantern Festival, it's Ian Xiang.
7:02:04 > 7:02:06CHEERING AND APPLAUSE
7:02:06 > 7:02:10- Lovely to meet you.- So excited to be here.- We're excited to have you.
7:02:10 > 7:02:13Tell us, what is the lantern? What makes it so significant?
7:02:13 > 7:02:16Well, in traditional Chinese, people hang lanterns in front of
7:02:16 > 7:02:19the gate during Chinese imperial time
7:02:19 > 7:02:24to bring luck and ward off evils.
7:02:24 > 7:02:26Fantastic. And what made you want to bring it to the UK?
7:02:26 > 7:02:28Well, when I was a child,
7:02:28 > 7:02:30we'd go to this kind of lantern festival every year.
7:02:30 > 7:02:33- It was my favourite day. - Was it really?- Yeah.
7:02:33 > 7:02:36When I came here, I found that it was missing,
7:02:36 > 7:02:39so I wanted to bring the lantern festival into the UK.
7:02:39 > 7:02:40And you have done just that.
7:02:40 > 7:02:43I personally am going to have to go to the Magical Lantern Festival.
7:02:43 > 7:02:45If I do go, what will I see? What's it like?
7:02:45 > 7:02:48Well, at the Magical Lantern Festival, in Chiswick House And Gardens,
7:02:48 > 7:02:50- we will see loads of lanterns like this.- OK.
7:02:50 > 7:02:55- We have a huge ship lantern across the lake.- Wow!
7:02:55 > 7:02:59- And also we have a big rooster lantern.- Look at that!
7:02:59 > 7:03:03And we have a 30-metre-long, 50-metre-tall palace lantern,
7:03:03 > 7:03:05that's from Tang dynasty.
7:03:05 > 7:03:08It's something that you have to see to really appreciate, I guess,
7:03:08 > 7:03:09and you've got something very special for us.
7:03:09 > 7:03:11Yeah, we've got a rooster lantern here for you.
7:03:11 > 7:03:13Made by your fair hands, Ian.
7:03:13 > 7:03:15Well, thank you very much and actually if you like that,
7:03:15 > 7:03:18then you'll love our make. Later on in the show, we'll be showing you
7:03:18 > 7:03:21- just how to make this. Ian, thank you so much.- Thank you.
7:03:21 > 7:03:23- Awesome! Where's Barney? - I'm over here. Hello. How are you?
7:03:23 > 7:03:26I've got my own camera shot and everything, look at that.
7:03:26 > 7:03:27That's my good side. Hello, darlings.
7:03:27 > 7:03:29Right then, Lunar New Year is round the corner, yes,
7:03:29 > 7:03:32but so is one of my favourite days in the calendar and that is
7:03:32 > 7:03:34Comic Relief's Red Nose Day, so on the 23rd March,
7:03:34 > 7:03:36Blue Peter's going to be celebrating all the incredible
7:03:36 > 7:03:39work Comic Relief does to help people around the UK and, of course,
7:03:39 > 7:03:41around the world, and we want you to get involved too, please.
7:03:41 > 7:03:44- Can I do the good bit?- Go on, then. - OK.
7:03:44 > 7:03:48So, check out our Red Nose Day totaliser. Look at that!
7:03:48 > 7:03:52- It's a beautiful thing.- That is proper. We are not messing around,
7:03:52 > 7:03:55because we are on a mission to find the UK's funniest joke.
7:03:55 > 7:03:58We need you to tell us what makes you LOL.
7:03:58 > 7:04:01LOL stands for Laugh Out Lovely, so get in touch and send us your jokes.
7:04:01 > 7:04:04We're going to try and fill our totaliser with the amount of jokes
7:04:04 > 7:04:06we've had in. We're going to go
7:04:06 > 7:04:08from all the way from the bottom, all the way to the top.
7:04:08 > 7:04:09You can see there that there's 1,000 there,
7:04:09 > 7:04:12but that doesn't mean that's how many we're going to get in.
7:04:12 > 7:04:14- We want to smash that record.- We're going to smash it, I've got a good
7:04:14 > 7:04:17- feeling.- Don't start there on your camera shot, come back down,
7:04:17 > 7:04:20because we've only just announced this, which means that at the
7:04:20 > 7:04:22moment, we have a big fat total of a big fat zero, which is about
7:04:22 > 7:04:24- here somewhere.- That's right. We need your help.
7:04:24 > 7:04:26We need you to get in touch with us, send us in your jokes.
7:04:26 > 7:04:29They need to be funny and original and tell us what you're doing
7:04:29 > 7:04:31this year for Red Nose Day. Get involved.
7:04:31 > 7:04:33Question is, Barney, how can everyone at home do that?
7:04:33 > 7:04:37Step uno - you have to go to the Blue Peter website and download
7:04:37 > 7:04:40this application form. Then you cut it out and you decorate our faces.
7:04:40 > 7:04:42Be nice, please.
7:04:42 > 7:04:44The next thing you need to do is fill out your three,
7:04:44 > 7:04:47your top-three jokes on these little spaces here.
7:04:47 > 7:04:50They can be anything, as long as they're original, you've come up
7:04:50 > 7:04:52with them. So they can be knock-knock jokes,
7:04:52 > 7:04:55- or Doctor, Doctor. Maybe Barney's got a wonderful example.- OK.
7:04:55 > 7:04:58I was playing pool with an owl last week and he hit the white ball
7:04:58 > 7:05:00in and I said, "That's two hits," and the owl went, "Two hits to who?"
7:05:00 > 7:05:02CHEERING AND LAUGHTER
7:05:02 > 7:05:06- Loving that one. - OK.- What?- Thank you, Barney.
7:05:06 > 7:05:09No, I told you I'd laugh on the live.
7:05:09 > 7:05:12So the next thing you need to do is tell us what you're doing for
7:05:12 > 7:05:14Red Nose Day. Remember, getting involved is so important.
7:05:14 > 7:05:17No matter how big or small, just get fundraising.
7:05:17 > 7:05:19And then you want to send your application form to our
7:05:19 > 7:05:22snail-mail address. I don't know why they call it that. Do snails deliver it?
7:05:22 > 7:05:25- I don't know.- Anyway, it's...
7:05:25 > 7:05:28- Thank you.- There's the deadline, it's Wednesday 22nd of March
7:05:28 > 7:05:31and make sure you're watching on Thursday 23rd March,
7:05:31 > 7:05:32make sure you're watching,
7:05:32 > 7:05:35because that is our Blue Peter Red Nose day spectacular and
7:05:35 > 7:05:38we're going to be reading out some of your jokes and actually LOL-ing.
7:05:38 > 7:05:41- I'm sorry I didn't LOL at your joke. - You did really well.
7:05:41 > 7:05:43- You're a very good actress. - Good. Thanks.
7:05:43 > 7:05:46But now, from jokes onto a show that is so scary,
7:05:46 > 7:05:49so horrific that even the makers of it tell you to look away.
7:05:49 > 7:05:50I suggest you don't. It's amazing.
7:05:50 > 7:05:53It's Lemony Snicket's A Series Of Unfortunate Events.
7:05:53 > 7:05:57# Skies smiling at me... #
7:05:59 > 7:06:02I'm going to stop you right here.
7:06:02 > 7:06:03I'm Lemony Snicket.
7:06:03 > 7:06:07The cinematic tease before you is full of disturbed plots...
7:06:07 > 7:06:09You must obey.
7:06:09 > 7:06:13- ..villainous, frightful deeds... - Really?
7:06:13 > 7:06:15..and an absurd amount of child endangerment.
7:06:15 > 7:06:18Do you really want to sit through every horrid episode?
7:06:18 > 7:06:20Be a dear and look away.
7:06:24 > 7:06:27I've got goose bumps, because it's just the best show in the world.
7:06:27 > 7:06:30- Please, welcome Louis and Malina! - CHEERING AND APPLAUSE
7:06:30 > 7:06:32It's great to have you guys here.
7:06:32 > 7:06:34I just want to say... The crowd are wild today.
7:06:34 > 7:06:36Now, we all know Lemony Snicket, I'm sure.
7:06:36 > 7:06:38I read the books growing up, I loved the film,
7:06:38 > 7:06:42the new series is amazing, to anyone out there who doesn't know
7:06:42 > 7:06:45Lemony Snicket, tell us a little bit about the story.
7:06:45 > 7:06:48Well, we play Violet and Klaus Baudelaire, who are siblings and our
7:06:48 > 7:06:52parents die in a terrible fire and the orphans get placed in the
7:06:52 > 7:06:56care of Count Olaf, who goes through disguises and plans
7:06:56 > 7:06:58- to try to get our fortune. - They're not the best disguises,
7:06:58 > 7:07:01- I've got to say. He looks funny, though.- He does, he does.- Yeah.
7:07:01 > 7:07:04Now, of course, we've seen you on camera before, Malina.
7:07:04 > 7:07:07We've seen you in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Nine Lives,
7:07:07 > 7:07:10- but, Louis, you're new to all this telly stuff, aren't you?- Yeah.
7:07:10 > 7:07:13- How did you get the role? - I went to the original audition.
7:07:13 > 7:07:16I thought it went really badly, if I'm honest.
7:07:16 > 7:07:17I messed up all the lines and stuff,
7:07:17 > 7:07:20but my mum got a call a few months later,
7:07:20 > 7:07:23asking me to be in LA on Tuesday and it was Saturday at the time,
7:07:23 > 7:07:26- for a call back.- Phew! And look at you now. It's the best series ever.
7:07:26 > 7:07:29- Listen, we want to show a clip. Would you like that?- Yeah.
7:07:29 > 7:07:31- It would be great.- Great. We're not going to do that.
7:07:31 > 7:07:34We're going to make you really work for it, OK?
7:07:34 > 7:07:36We're going to play a game and for every question you get right,
7:07:36 > 7:07:38you're going to get five seconds of a clip.
7:07:38 > 7:07:42Walk this way for Blue Peter's A Series Of Unfortunate Events.
7:07:44 > 7:07:47So smooth! There we go.
7:07:47 > 7:07:49- I'm going to explain how the game works, OK, guys?- OK.
7:07:49 > 7:07:50It's pretty serious.
7:07:50 > 7:07:52On this board you can see a whole series,
7:07:52 > 7:07:55you haven't seen these before, of unfortunate events, ranging from
7:07:55 > 7:07:59toilet paper on the shoe to losing your BP badge over there.
7:07:59 > 7:08:03But the question is - which event is the most unfortunate?
7:08:03 > 7:08:07We've been asking our Blue Peter fans to vote online all week on
7:08:07 > 7:08:10which they think is the most unfortunate, so it's up to
7:08:10 > 7:08:14you to guess whether they thought that each event was more or less.
7:08:14 > 7:08:17- Are you up for it? Does that make sense?- Definitely.- Yeah.- Great.
7:08:17 > 7:08:19Good. So for each correct guess,
7:08:19 > 7:08:21you will get five seconds of your clip shown.
7:08:21 > 7:08:23- Are you ready?- Yes.- OK. Here we go.
7:08:23 > 7:08:28The first one, toilet paper stuck on your shoe and then here
7:08:28 > 7:08:31we've got laying in, sleeping past the alarm.
7:08:31 > 7:08:35So is that more or less unfortunate than toilet paper on the shoe?
7:08:35 > 7:08:38- I do that every morning.- Toilet paper on the shoe or sleeping in?
7:08:38 > 7:08:42- Oh, sleeping in. Good.- That's got to be more unfortunate, surely.
7:08:42 > 7:08:44I think so. It's more stressful, don't you think?
7:08:44 > 7:08:46More unfortunate, let's see.
7:08:46 > 7:08:49Yeah! Great! Join in at home, by the way.
7:08:49 > 7:08:51I don't know how. We might hear you shouting.
7:08:51 > 7:08:54OK, so jumping over a fence and your trousers splitting,
7:08:54 > 7:08:57I think it's just trousers splitting. Is that more...?
7:08:57 > 7:09:00- That's more.- That's got to be more. - That's definitely...
7:09:00 > 7:09:03- You think that's worse than sleeping through the alarm?- I think it is.
7:09:03 > 7:09:06It is more! You guys are on a roll!
7:09:06 > 7:09:10The next one is when you call your teacher, "Mum."
7:09:10 > 7:09:13Is that more or less unfortunate than ripping your trousers?
7:09:13 > 7:09:16- I think it's bad, but it's not quite...- I think less.
7:09:16 > 7:09:18- We think less?- I think less. - The cameramen agree,
7:09:18 > 7:09:20so that's a good thing. Let's have a look.
7:09:20 > 7:09:22It's less unfortunate!
7:09:22 > 7:09:24Thanks, Louis, you've got my back.
7:09:24 > 7:09:28The next one is dropping your toast butter-side down.
7:09:28 > 7:09:31- Is that more or less unfortunate? - It's a waste of toast.
7:09:31 > 7:09:34- Yeah, yeah, it's a waste of toast. - Really? So we're saying more?- Yeah.
7:09:34 > 7:09:36OK. Let's have a look.
7:09:36 > 7:09:40Oh! It was less. Those sneaky Blue Peter fans.
7:09:40 > 7:09:44OK, the next one is being splashed by a puddle from a car.
7:09:44 > 7:09:47Is that more or less unfortunate than dropping your toast
7:09:47 > 7:09:50- butter-side down?- Your cold and wet and...- I think more.- I think more.
7:09:50 > 7:09:53- It's got to be.- OK. Let's have a look. Turn it around.
7:09:53 > 7:09:54It's more.
7:09:54 > 7:09:57You guys! We're going to be here for hours watching this clip.
7:09:57 > 7:10:01You're doing well. The next one is stepping in doggie doo-doo.
7:10:01 > 7:10:05- Is that more or less unfortunate? - That's quite bad.- More.
7:10:05 > 7:10:08- That's a bad day out, isn't it? So we're saying...?- More.
7:10:08 > 7:10:10It's more!
7:10:10 > 7:10:13OK, the last one. I love this game, we should do this every week.
7:10:13 > 7:10:17- Losing your Blue Peter badge.- That's about as bad as it gets.- That's...
7:10:17 > 7:10:20- That's...- Radzi's in tears over there, just at the thought.
7:10:20 > 7:10:23- Do we think that's more or less unfortunate?- I think it's more.
7:10:23 > 7:10:26- You think more?- We just got ours today. The badges are everything.
7:10:26 > 7:10:31It's more! I like that game. I hope you were getting involved at home.
7:10:31 > 7:10:35You've got 30 seconds of the clip to show,
7:10:35 > 7:10:38so, guys, you're on camera two, I'll hand over to you.

7:11:17 > 7:11:19so make sure you head online and check that out,
7:11:19 > 7:11:21but there we go. Barney, over to you.
7:11:21 > 7:11:24Thank you, Linds. If you've been watching Winterwatch recently,
7:11:24 > 7:11:27you'll know that the team follow lots of different types of wildlife
7:11:27 > 7:11:29in lots of different habitats and they actually move on from
7:11:29 > 7:11:31time to time and once they've been there,
7:11:31 > 7:11:34the next thing you know, is they've gone. Wouldn't it be great if you
7:11:34 > 7:11:37could actually capture that moment in time for ever? You can,
7:11:37 > 7:11:39you need two things. You need a camera and a Chris Packham.
7:11:39 > 7:11:41Winter -
7:11:41 > 7:11:45cold, bleak, gloomy days when you just want to stay inside
7:11:45 > 7:11:46and stay nice and warm,
7:11:46 > 7:11:49or you could head outside with your thermals on,
7:11:49 > 7:11:52so that you're all wrapped up and see what a beauty winter
7:11:52 > 7:11:55has to offer you, and that's exactly what I'm doing today and
7:11:55 > 7:11:58I'm going to capture it all on camera.
7:11:58 > 7:12:00Yes, it might be a bit chilly,
7:12:00 > 7:12:05but winter is the perfect time to get out and spot wildlife.
7:12:05 > 7:12:06Just ask Chris Packham.
7:12:06 > 7:12:10He's the presenter of the hit BBC show Winterwatch.
7:12:11 > 7:12:15Hello and welcome to Winterwatch 2017.
7:12:15 > 7:12:18Over the past five series, Chris and the Winterwatch team have
7:12:18 > 7:12:22been spotting some amazing animals during the colder months.
7:12:22 > 7:12:25No prizes, then, for guessing where I've come.
7:12:27 > 7:12:31Welcome to the RSPB reserve here in Arne, Dorset.
7:12:31 > 7:12:33It's the current set of this year's Winterwatch, where
7:12:33 > 7:12:36Chris Packham and the team are filming the new series.
7:12:38 > 7:12:40But as well as being a TV presenter,
7:12:40 > 7:12:43Chris is a wildlife and photography expert.
7:12:43 > 7:12:45CAMERA CLICKS
7:12:45 > 7:12:48So who better to show me around and show me what to snap?
7:12:50 > 7:12:53- Good morning, Chris.- Good morning, Barney.- Are you all right?
7:12:53 > 7:12:55- What a day. - It's a beautiful day, isn't it?
7:12:55 > 7:12:58Obviously, winter is the time to stay indoors and wrap up warm
7:12:58 > 7:13:00and have a warm brew, but of course if we get outside and start
7:13:00 > 7:13:03to have a look around, we can see some amazing stuff.
7:13:03 > 7:13:05It's a fantastic time of year for wildlife watching.
7:13:05 > 7:13:07The leaves are all off the trees, if you're in woodland you can see
7:13:07 > 7:13:10a lot further and because animals are hungry in winter,
7:13:10 > 7:13:12sometimes you can take advantage of that and get closer to them,
7:13:12 > 7:13:15- so it's super for photography. - Shall we get started?- Let's go.
7:13:17 > 7:13:19Now, we're using some pretty serious kit,
7:13:19 > 7:13:22but you can use something as simple as a camera phone.
7:13:23 > 7:13:26But no matter what you're taking your photos with,
7:13:26 > 7:13:29you need to get yourself in the right place.
7:13:29 > 7:13:32So Chris's first tip is to choose the right location.
7:13:33 > 7:13:35Where do you suggest we start?
7:13:35 > 7:13:37Well, I would go where the public goes,
7:13:37 > 7:13:39because there the animals are used to seeing people
7:13:39 > 7:13:42and you don't have to spend as much time sneaking up on them.
7:13:42 > 7:13:44So I'd stick on the paths if we were looking for deer,
7:13:44 > 7:13:46because they're quite happy to see people on the paths.
7:13:46 > 7:13:48If you go off into the woods, they're going to be a little bit
7:13:48 > 7:13:51spooked. And then lastly, the car park, because
7:13:51 > 7:13:54- that's where everyone arrives and everyone has their lunch.- Sure.
7:13:54 > 7:13:58- Of course.- So there's always food there.- That's a great tip.
7:13:58 > 7:14:00'The advice pays off straight away.
7:14:00 > 7:14:02'Just by sticking to the path,
7:14:02 > 7:14:05'we soon manage to capture an iconic winter bird -
7:14:05 > 7:14:07'a robin.
7:14:09 > 7:14:10'Once you're in the right position,
7:14:10 > 7:14:14'it's time to think about what your photo will actually look like.
7:14:14 > 7:14:17'Or, to use a technical term...
7:14:17 > 7:14:19'With the help of a herd of deer we've spotted,
7:14:19 > 7:14:23'Chris points out what to look for to help make your photo brilliant.'
7:14:25 > 7:14:27The deer are forming a nice shape.
7:14:27 > 7:14:29I've got a gap between the trees there,
7:14:29 > 7:14:30looking into the background.
7:14:30 > 7:14:34So that gives the photograph some depth as well.
7:14:34 > 7:14:36I've got nice and low, so that I can get the sky in,
7:14:36 > 7:14:39so that we can see the landscape where these animals are living.
7:14:39 > 7:14:41What I like about the deer here is that their coat colour
7:14:41 > 7:14:43complements the grass.
7:14:43 > 7:14:45We've got that lovely mixture of browns,
7:14:45 > 7:14:48and with the leafless trees behind...
7:14:48 > 7:14:50They're nice and brown, too.
7:14:50 > 7:14:51'To snap these deer,
7:14:51 > 7:14:55'we're using camera lenses that can capture them from a long way away.
7:14:55 > 7:15:00'But what happens if you can't get your hands on this serious kit?'
7:15:00 > 7:15:01Well, that's simple...
7:15:03 > 7:15:07'If you're using a phone or a tablet to take your pictures,
7:15:07 > 7:15:10'you'll get the best results if you're close up.
7:15:10 > 7:15:14'So, where's closer than your back garden?'
7:15:14 > 7:15:17Your kitchen or your lounge window is a perfect hide -
7:15:17 > 7:15:20nice and warm, close to the kettle, cup of tea,
7:15:20 > 7:15:23- tea, cakes, biscuits... - Sounds beautiful.- ..it's all on tap.
7:15:23 > 7:15:26You can attract birds into your garden by putting out food
7:15:26 > 7:15:27in bird feeders.
7:15:27 > 7:15:31But you don't want to photograph the birds on an ugly plastic feeder.
7:15:31 > 7:15:34It works for the birds dispensing food, but not for a nice photo.
7:15:34 > 7:15:39So what I do is, I set up next to it a nice natural perch like this.
7:15:39 > 7:15:42Wizened old wood, a bit of lichen, or even maybe some moss like this.
7:15:42 > 7:15:45- Beautiful, yeah. - So when the bird pitches here,
7:15:45 > 7:15:46it looks like it's out in the woods
7:15:46 > 7:15:49and your picture's going to look a lot more attractive.
7:15:49 > 7:15:50So you don't need a posh tripod like this.
7:15:50 > 7:15:52Anything just to hold this in place...
7:15:52 > 7:15:54How do you tempt the birds in place to here?
7:15:54 > 7:15:55Is that because they're near the feeder,
7:15:55 > 7:15:58so they're used to that environment, so they'll naturally jump on to it?
7:15:58 > 7:16:01If they're reluctant, just stick some peanuts or seed on top
7:16:01 > 7:16:03of here a few times and then they'll soon learn
7:16:03 > 7:16:05that this offers food as much as the feeder does as well.
7:16:05 > 7:16:08So once you've set out your bird feast,
7:16:08 > 7:16:11you can snap them from your lovely, warm house.
7:16:11 > 7:16:13Genius.
7:16:13 > 7:16:15Then try and get the camera as close to the glass as possible
7:16:15 > 7:16:17to cut out the reflection. If you're taking it with a mobile,
7:16:17 > 7:16:20you can hold it right up to the glass like that.
7:16:20 > 7:16:23I actually have a small camera, so if you do the phone shot,
7:16:23 > 7:16:25I'll do the camera shot.
7:16:25 > 7:16:27I guess now it's just a...
7:16:27 > 7:16:29It's a waiting game, really, isn't it?
7:16:29 > 7:16:31Yeah, but with all that tempting seed on offer,
7:16:31 > 7:16:33I don't think we'll have to wait too long.
7:16:33 > 7:16:36I haven't had any breakfast, I'm tempted by the seed!
7:16:36 > 7:16:38Thanks to Chris, I've had a great day
7:16:38 > 7:16:41and I'm pretty pleased with the photos I've taken.
7:16:41 > 7:16:42It just goes to show,
7:16:42 > 7:16:45you never know what you might see outside in the winter months.
7:16:45 > 7:16:49Although, there are no signs of any birds on our perch yet.
7:16:49 > 7:16:51Remember, the most important ingredient
7:16:51 > 7:16:53- of wildlife photography is... - Cake and tea.- Patience.
7:16:53 > 7:16:56- Patience, that's it.- Patience. - OK, I'll stay here for a bit longer.
7:16:56 > 7:16:59- You've got to go off and do some work, haven't you?- I have indeed.
7:16:59 > 7:17:01- Thanks for being here today.- You're most welcome.- Some really good tips.
7:17:01 > 7:17:04Hopefully that's inspired you to get out there and take some photos.
7:17:04 > 7:17:07- In the meantime...- You stay here, I'll get off.- ..patience.
7:17:07 > 7:17:08Thank you, Chris.
7:17:08 > 7:17:11I hope they show up. We might be here for some time.
7:17:12 > 7:17:14I was there for some time. I got back about 20 minutes ago.
7:17:14 > 7:17:17No, I'm only kidding! It was a great day. Thank you very much to Chris.
7:17:17 > 7:17:18If you want to watch Winterwatch,
7:17:18 > 7:17:20it's on tonight - BBC Two, eight o'clock.
7:17:20 > 7:17:23It is the last one from RSPB Arne, so go and check it out -
7:17:23 > 7:17:26when they're looking at all the wildlife, and they're wonderful talents.
7:17:26 > 7:17:28Speaking of which, there's a brand-new animation that's come out.
7:17:28 > 7:17:31It's called Sing, and Hollywood legend Matthew McConaughey
7:17:31 > 7:17:34voices one of the characters. He's called Buster. He's a koala bear.
7:17:34 > 7:17:36We found out that he was in town, so went a long to ask him
7:17:36 > 7:17:40some questions about the animation. Questions like this...
7:17:41 > 7:17:43You can be in your pyjamas if you want to.
7:17:43 > 7:17:44You don't have to comb your hair,
7:17:44 > 7:17:46you don't have to do any of that
7:17:46 > 7:17:49and so there's nothing self-conscious about it.
7:17:49 > 7:17:51I think we should do this show in our pyjamas.
7:17:51 > 7:17:53I'm going to put the idea forward later on.
7:17:53 > 7:17:55If you want to see the full interview,
7:17:55 > 7:17:57head to the Blue Peter website... bbc.co.uk/bluepeter
7:17:57 > 7:18:00You can hear more from Taron Egerton, Matthew's co-star,
7:18:00 > 7:18:03about that movie. Now, though, it's time for the Big Badge Wall.
7:18:03 > 7:18:05- Time to look at your talents. - That's right. Come on over.
7:18:05 > 7:18:07It's looking very good. There's sparkles, there's colour.
7:18:07 > 7:18:10We've even got Malina and Louis to come and help read out...
7:18:10 > 7:18:13- Yay! - CHEERING
7:18:13 > 7:18:15They're loving you today. Malina, you've found some post.
7:18:15 > 7:18:19- Talk me through it.- I did. I love the one of Badge Man by Luke.
7:18:19 > 7:18:21He's from Preston and he got a blue badge.
7:18:21 > 7:18:24I tell you what, he's got it pretty spot on, hasn't he?
7:18:24 > 7:18:27- Take a look at this. - Look at that!- There he goes.
7:18:27 > 7:18:29- Just for you, Luke. Just for you, that, mate.- That's good!
7:18:29 > 7:18:31Malina, where did you find Badge Man?
7:18:31 > 7:18:34- The world may never know. - OK.- Bye-bye.
7:18:34 > 7:18:37Now, look at what Louis and myself are currently wearing
7:18:37 > 7:18:39around our waists - very proudly.
7:18:39 > 7:18:42Clearly inspired by the WWE guests we had in a couple of weeks ago
7:18:42 > 7:18:46Mine's made by Kai. Kai's from Sheffield.
7:18:46 > 7:18:47Kai, you are a genius.
7:18:47 > 7:18:50- Who's yours made by, Louis? - Mine was made by Evan and Jack
7:18:50 > 7:18:52- from Worcester and they got a silver badge.- Well-deserved.
7:18:52 > 7:18:55- Thank you, guys.- We love to hear from you. Keep your stuff coming in.
7:18:55 > 7:18:58You never know, it could end up right here on the Big Badge Wall.
7:18:58 > 7:19:00Those are the details that you need...
7:19:00 > 7:19:02Also, don't forget that a Blue Peter badge gets you
7:19:02 > 7:19:04into over 200 attractions across the UK.
7:19:04 > 7:19:07- Every one... - ALL:- For free!
7:19:07 > 7:19:10- That's beautiful.- Nice.- Please head to the website before you go out,
7:19:10 > 7:19:12because sometimes the deals can change.
7:19:12 > 7:19:15- Can you feel that? - What?- I can feel a make coming on.
7:19:15 > 7:19:17Oh, yes, we'll be showing you how to make this,
7:19:17 > 7:19:19your very own rooster lantern. Guys, I fancy a hand.
7:19:19 > 7:19:22- Can you give me a hand?- Yeah, I'd love to.- Me!- Come on, Barn.- Yes!
7:19:22 > 7:19:24- It's as simple as that. Sorry, Linds.- See you later, Linds.
7:19:24 > 7:19:27So it's a very, very simple make. It's not really...
7:19:27 > 7:19:28It only works with two of us...
7:19:28 > 7:19:32All you need to make this fantastic creation is the following...
7:19:42 > 7:19:45If you're going to build yourself a really sturdy lantern,
7:19:45 > 7:19:46make sure you get some card, rather than paper.
7:19:46 > 7:19:49It's thicker, it looks better and works a lot better as a lantern.
7:19:49 > 7:19:52You want go vertically along the line and fold your line
7:19:52 > 7:19:53right down the middle like that.
7:19:53 > 7:19:55Now, the measurement you're going to need is two centimetres.
7:19:55 > 7:19:57It works for two reasons.
7:19:57 > 7:20:00Two centimetres in from the side is where you make your first cut.
7:20:00 > 7:20:03And two centimetres from the top is where you stop.
7:20:03 > 7:20:05You don't want to go all the way to the end, otherwise your
7:20:05 > 7:20:07lantern is just going to be in pieces.
7:20:07 > 7:20:09I'm going to show you just a few more of those
7:20:09 > 7:20:10cos you know what you're doing.
7:20:10 > 7:20:13Once you've gone all the way down, you'll end up with
7:20:13 > 7:20:15- a piece of card that looks like this.- Nice.
7:20:15 > 7:20:17What you do now is fold it back on itself and you want the fold
7:20:17 > 7:20:20to be on the outside cos you get that lovely little shape like that.
7:20:20 > 7:20:22- Look at that.- While I staple this together you can
7:20:22 > 7:20:24- talk about the handle.- Absolutely.
7:20:24 > 7:20:26We've got a handle which has two purposes.
7:20:26 > 7:20:29- I've taken two...- Hello! It's alive!- ..two strips, rather,
7:20:29 > 7:20:32of the A4 card and I've glued them together, or stapled them together.
7:20:32 > 7:20:34And then once you slot that inside...
7:20:34 > 7:20:36- Two seconds.- .. the structure that Barney's got here,
7:20:36 > 7:20:39you will then have a lantern which looks like this one here.
7:20:39 > 7:20:42Now, the more observant ones amongst you may notice...
7:20:42 > 7:20:44- I'll move that just to one side for a sec.- OK. I'm sorry.
7:20:44 > 7:20:47See, I'm already getting it wrong. I'm only helping out.
7:20:47 > 7:20:50- I said two uses because... Can you give me a hand and lift it up?- Sure.
7:20:50 > 7:20:53Look at that there. There is our battery-powered candle.
7:20:53 > 7:20:56- Yes.- But I don't think it looks much like a rooster yet.- Not yet.
7:20:56 > 7:20:58We need to get some legs on it. I can show you how to make those.
7:20:58 > 7:21:01You're going to need... The yellow card that you've
7:21:01 > 7:21:03already got, cut it into two strips like this.
7:21:03 > 7:21:04- And then stick the ends together. - Nice.
7:21:04 > 7:21:06One goes over the top of the other,
7:21:06 > 7:21:08that's why you've got a little crease,
7:21:08 > 7:21:11fold that one over there like that and that will get you started.
7:21:11 > 7:21:13I'm sure you've done this loads of times.
7:21:13 > 7:21:15Just keep going like that until you eventually get to,
7:21:15 > 7:21:18I don't know, maybe an inch from the top, and it will look like this.
7:21:18 > 7:21:20- Yes.- Now, these are the feet.
7:21:20 > 7:21:23We've gone from naked feet because roosters don't wear shoes.
7:21:23 > 7:21:24But you can give them shoes if you want to.
7:21:24 > 7:21:26We have an example of that.
7:21:26 > 7:21:28Some oval bits of card, decorate them like a shoe,
7:21:28 > 7:21:30and some pipe cleaners there for the shoelaces.
7:21:30 > 7:21:33It's really simple. Stick it all together and those are your feet.
7:21:33 > 7:21:36The Blue Peter creation team are awesome at this kind of stuff.
7:21:36 > 7:21:37They really are.
7:21:37 > 7:21:40We'll keep the yellow card and I'm going to fold it over
7:21:40 > 7:21:42because if we look for a split second at the finished
7:21:42 > 7:21:44product you can see that we have a beak there.
7:21:44 > 7:21:47So we're going to make the beak by folding over the yellow card.
7:21:47 > 7:21:50I will stress this, measurements aren't that important for this make.
7:21:50 > 7:21:52So I'm going to cut along the fold, about four centimetres,
7:21:52 > 7:21:56and then I'm going to fold it into two right-angled triangles.
7:21:56 > 7:21:59My old maths teacher would be very proud that I've called them
7:21:59 > 7:22:00two right-angled triangles.
7:22:00 > 7:22:04I'll fold them back and then I'm going to cut along the fold.
7:22:04 > 7:22:06- In fact... - Why don't you cut the fold itself?
7:22:06 > 7:22:09OK, thank you for that one, because actually I should cut to the
7:22:09 > 7:22:12side of the fold cos it makes it look that extra bit special.
7:22:12 > 7:22:15Once you've cut along you will then have a beak,
7:22:15 > 7:22:19if I open this out, which says, "Man, I'm doing a Blue Peter make."
7:22:19 > 7:22:21That is well clever, yeah.
7:22:21 > 7:22:23Now we're going to have to have our... This bit here is
7:22:23 > 7:22:26- called the comb, and this bit at the back is called the tail.- Yes.
7:22:26 > 7:22:29For that, you've made a fan before, a million times, I'm sure you have,
7:22:29 > 7:22:31you want to make a big fan and a small fan.
7:22:31 > 7:22:34The small fan is the comb and the big fan is the tail.
7:22:34 > 7:22:36And all you do really is just take a staple,
7:22:36 > 7:22:38a stapler, and you stick them to the back of your rooster,
7:22:38 > 7:22:41the big one at the back, and the small one at the front.
7:22:41 > 7:22:43- I'm a real fan of this make. - I like what you did there.
7:22:43 > 7:22:45Once you've done that it will look like this.
7:22:45 > 7:22:48As you can see. But as you can see, our rooster can't see.
7:22:48 > 7:22:51Which is where these fantastic eyes come in.
7:22:51 > 7:22:54I've just been... I've been rather creative there
7:22:54 > 7:22:56- and just drawn around... - "I've been!"
7:22:56 > 7:22:59OK, when I say "I", what I mean is the awesome Blue Peter creation team.
7:22:59 > 7:23:02- Are they level, those eyes? - I've got it. Yes, just about.
7:23:02 > 7:23:04And there you have your very finished rooster.
7:23:04 > 7:23:07- What do you reckon, guys in the audience?- It's amazing, isn't it?
