0:00:04 > 0:00:06Today we'll be showing you how to make
0:00:06 > 0:00:08these Big Birthday Balloon biscuits.
0:00:08 > 0:00:12All you'll need is some dough, some hard-boiled sweets
0:00:12 > 0:00:13and some wild cat poo.
0:00:13 > 0:00:15No, no, Radz, that's not for the biscuits,
0:00:15 > 0:00:16that's for a different item.
0:00:16 > 0:00:17Yeah, I knew that.
0:00:34 > 0:00:36CHEERING AND APPLAUSE
0:00:36 > 0:00:40- Hello!- Welcome to Blue Peter, and boy, do we have a lot
0:00:40 > 0:00:42packed into today's show, including me trying to do this,
0:00:42 > 0:00:46where I attempt to stand up on a bar of soap and I get very, very wet.
0:00:46 > 0:00:49As well as that, we've got the team in
0:00:49 > 0:00:51from the brand-new show Big Cats and they've brought
0:00:51 > 0:00:54some smelly stuff along with them. That's all I'm going to say.
0:00:54 > 0:00:56Well, we brought this thing along with us.
0:00:56 > 0:00:58We like to call her Shelley. She's a fab tortoise.
0:00:58 > 0:01:00There she is there. Jump onto the Fan Club and see
0:01:00 > 0:01:02if you can see her at any point in the show.
0:01:02 > 0:01:04- We might read your name out. But now she gone.- She gone!
0:01:04 > 0:01:08As well as that, you may remember that last week we announced Rory
0:01:08 > 0:01:09as our competition winner
0:01:09 > 0:01:12for our amazing competition Awesome Animation.
0:01:12 > 0:01:14Well, that was just the start of his amazing prize.
0:01:14 > 0:01:16Here's what we got up to at the weekend.
0:01:18 > 0:01:21Back in September, we launched our Awesome Animation
0:01:21 > 0:01:25competition, which gave you the chance to create a prehistoric
0:01:25 > 0:01:29creature inspired by Aardman Animations' latest film, Early Man.
0:01:31 > 0:01:35The age of stone is over. Long live the age of bronze.
0:01:39 > 0:01:42Over 9,000 of you applied,
0:01:42 > 0:01:46making it our most popular competition in six years,
0:01:46 > 0:01:49and that meant it was tough work sifting through all the entries.
0:01:49 > 0:01:52It's difficult, isn't it? Because they're all so good.
0:01:54 > 0:01:57But the Early Man director and our head judge, Nick Park,
0:01:57 > 0:01:59helped make the decision.
0:01:59 > 0:02:01So it appears we have a winner.
0:02:01 > 0:02:05- Is everyone happy with this entry? - Very happy.- I think so.
0:02:05 > 0:02:07It's absolutely stunning.
0:02:07 > 0:02:10Our winner was animation super fan Rory.
0:02:10 > 0:02:14He created Spiradon, that could transform into a flower
0:02:14 > 0:02:16when it sensed danger, and the judges loved it.
0:02:19 > 0:02:22Two months later, it was time for Rory to visit
0:02:22 > 0:02:27the Aardman HQ in Bristol and enjoy the first part of his prize,
0:02:27 > 0:02:30an access-all-areas tour of the studios.
0:02:30 > 0:02:34- Rory, come on in, how are you doing? - Fine, thank you.- High five.
0:02:34 > 0:02:37Massive congratulations on winning this competition.
0:02:37 > 0:02:38Are you proud of yourself?
0:02:38 > 0:02:41It's amazing to be a winner out of 9,000 people.
0:02:41 > 0:02:44I just didn't expect it and it's just amazing, yeah.
0:02:44 > 0:02:45Pretty cool, isn't it?
0:02:45 > 0:02:47I think we should walk around, meet some cool people
0:02:47 > 0:02:49and see some very cool things. Do you agree?
0:02:49 > 0:02:51- Yeah.- Come on, follow me this way.
0:02:53 > 0:02:57Some of the most popular animated films ever have been created right
0:02:57 > 0:03:02here and we were given permission to have a really good look around.
0:03:02 > 0:03:04Here we go, this is the art department.
0:03:04 > 0:03:06This is from the Early Man film.
0:03:06 > 0:03:10- Wow.- Isn't that awesome? - That's so detailed.
0:03:10 > 0:03:12What we found was amazing.
0:03:12 > 0:03:15There were so many hidden treasures.
0:03:15 > 0:03:16Let's have a look inside.
0:03:16 > 0:03:18- It's quite heavy, feel that.- Wow.
0:03:18 > 0:03:20It's heavier than I thought it would be.
0:03:20 > 0:03:22And look, I've just got a whole wad of spears.
0:03:24 > 0:03:26Oh, it's pointy!
0:03:26 > 0:03:29These guys at Aardman can actually make anything.
0:03:29 > 0:03:31It's so realistic. What have you got down there?
0:03:31 > 0:03:33- What have you found?- Oh!
0:03:33 > 0:03:37- Is that a heavy rock? - No, it's not, it's just polystyrene.
0:03:37 > 0:03:38It's just foam.
0:03:38 > 0:03:40But that was enough poking about.
0:03:40 > 0:03:45The team here had painstakingly created Rory's Spiradon creature
0:03:45 > 0:03:48and it was time for animator Andy to reveal it.
0:03:48 > 0:03:50Let us know what you think.
0:03:51 > 0:03:53Oh, my... Wow!
0:03:54 > 0:03:57- What do you make of that, Rory? - That is... That is amazing.
0:03:57 > 0:04:01It's, like, even better than the... Oh, wow.
0:04:01 > 0:04:03What an amazing design.
0:04:03 > 0:04:07Now it was down to Rory and Andy to bring Spiradon to life.
0:04:07 > 0:04:09OK, so you're in charge for the day,
0:04:09 > 0:04:11so let's get stuck into it, shall we?
0:04:13 > 0:04:17Stop motion animation is created by taking individual still photos,
0:04:17 > 0:04:21each one capturing a tiny change in a character's position.
0:04:21 > 0:04:23When you put these images together,
0:04:23 > 0:04:26they create the impression of movement.
0:04:26 > 0:04:27Hit the space bar.
0:04:31 > 0:04:32- OK?- Yeah.
0:04:33 > 0:04:35For someone who is as passionate about animation as Rory,
0:04:35 > 0:04:38this is incredible to watch because you can just tell
0:04:38 > 0:04:39he is in his element.
0:04:39 > 0:04:43This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
0:04:43 > 0:04:45It just goes to show why you should apply to BP competitions.
0:04:45 > 0:04:47Look where they get you.
0:04:48 > 0:04:53Stop motion takes ages, so we had to leave Andy to finish it off.
0:04:53 > 0:04:55It's Rory!
0:04:55 > 0:04:59Then it was time to reveal Rory's animation to the nation.
0:04:59 > 0:05:00Let's do it.
0:05:02 > 0:05:04ROAR!
0:05:05 > 0:05:08FOOTSTEPS THUD
0:05:10 > 0:05:12CHEERING
0:05:12 > 0:05:15- You were just watching that like, "That was amazing!"- That is...
0:05:15 > 0:05:17Oh, I didn't expect that.
0:05:17 > 0:05:20But this story is far from over.
0:05:20 > 0:05:23Next, we're off to London to see what the stars of the film
0:05:23 > 0:05:25think of Rory's animation.
0:05:25 > 0:05:27Well, the reason Rory's here today,
0:05:27 > 0:05:30he was our competition winner out of over 9,000 people, right?
0:05:30 > 0:05:32- That is amazing.- Wow.
0:05:32 > 0:05:35OK, so this is Rory's character.
0:05:35 > 0:05:36Wow, let's have a look.
0:05:40 > 0:05:42HE CHUCKLES
0:05:42 > 0:05:46- This is incredible.- It's like a sort of dragon, lizard, anteater.
0:05:48 > 0:05:51- That is amazing. - It's amazing, absolutely amazing.
0:05:51 > 0:05:53Fantastic.
0:05:53 > 0:05:55I'm seriously, seriously impressed.
0:05:55 > 0:05:57When you're making films, can I voice one of your films?
0:05:57 > 0:05:59Well, how would you voice my character?
0:05:59 > 0:06:02Maybe the character would be quite sort of grunty.
0:06:02 > 0:06:03- HE GRUNTS:- Just going along.
0:06:03 > 0:06:05HE CHIRPS
0:06:06 > 0:06:08- HIGH-PITCHED VOICE: - Oh, no, it's a T Rex!
0:06:08 > 0:06:10- Yeah, cos he's prey. - Yeah, so he'd be like...
0:06:10 > 0:06:12- Yeah.- Yeah.
0:06:12 > 0:06:15- That was quite similar to what Tom did, isn't it?- Really?
0:06:15 > 0:06:17- Yeah, Tom was very high-voiced. - Really?
0:06:17 > 0:06:18- When he was doing the flower?- Yes.
0:06:18 > 0:06:20Oh, no, it's a T Rex!
0:06:20 > 0:06:22Help!
0:06:22 > 0:06:26- So I basically stole all of Tom's ideas. Maybe hire Tom.- Yeah.
0:06:26 > 0:06:29It's so inventive, you know, the way you have it as
0:06:29 > 0:06:35a prehistoric creature and then it adapts into this sunflower design.
0:06:35 > 0:06:37It's so clever, the way it does that.
0:06:37 > 0:06:40Rory, I bet you can't believe you're actually sat here with Nick himself,
0:06:40 > 0:06:44watching your animation after all those months ago coming up
0:06:44 > 0:06:47- with this design. Does it feel great?- Yeah, it feels amazing.
0:06:47 > 0:06:51- Do you think you want to become an animator?- It would be amazing.
0:06:51 > 0:06:54Well, I really enjoyed doing them at home.
0:06:54 > 0:06:57Well, keep doing it and show us what you're up to.
0:06:57 > 0:07:01Oh, there you go, maybe a job at Aardman one day.
0:07:01 > 0:07:03What an amazing experience.
0:07:03 > 0:07:06But there's one last treat in store for Rory.
0:07:06 > 0:07:09We're off to the world premiere of the film and we're joined
0:07:09 > 0:07:12by the competition's top runners-up, Iona and Kate.
0:07:13 > 0:07:15What would you say to anyone watching who thinks,
0:07:15 > 0:07:18"Shall I enter a Blue Peter competition?"
0:07:18 > 0:07:23- I think just go for it and see how you do.- Give it a go.
0:07:23 > 0:07:26What was your reaction like when you found out that you had
0:07:26 > 0:07:28actually become a top runner-up?
0:07:28 > 0:07:29I was just really amazed.
0:07:31 > 0:07:32It was just amazing.
0:07:32 > 0:07:35So, to anyone thinking of entering a Blue Peter competition
0:07:35 > 0:07:37who might be watching right now, what would you say to them?
0:07:37 > 0:07:38What's your advice?
0:07:38 > 0:07:41I'd say, you have to enter these things
0:07:41 > 0:07:44because it's fantastic prizes. It's unbelievable.
0:07:44 > 0:07:47To have my model animated, it's just fantastic.
0:07:50 > 0:07:52Rory, you are an absolute legend,
0:07:52 > 0:07:54and I know that you are going to be watching right now
0:07:54 > 0:07:57with your brother, so hello, Rory and family, you are so great,
0:07:57 > 0:08:00and your passion for animation is genuinely inspiring.
0:08:00 > 0:08:02Now, if you were watching that, thinking...
0:08:02 > 0:08:04"I wish I was a Blue Peter competition winner."
0:08:04 > 0:08:07..then look no further than our brand-new competition.
0:08:07 > 0:08:09It's a biggie.
0:08:16 > 0:08:18For Blue Peter's 40th anniversary,
0:08:18 > 0:08:21a very special hot-air balloon was built.
0:08:23 > 0:08:25This year, Blue Peter turns 60,
0:08:25 > 0:08:27and what does every good birthday party need?
0:08:27 > 0:08:29Another birthday balloon, of course.
0:08:35 > 0:08:39So we're creating a brand-new Blue Peter hot-air balloon
0:08:39 > 0:08:42for the biggest birthday celebration possible.
0:08:45 > 0:08:46Ready?
0:08:49 > 0:08:52We want you to create a design to go on the iconic
0:08:52 > 0:08:54Blue Peter galleon logo.
0:08:54 > 0:08:57It needs to be totally unique,
0:08:57 > 0:09:00and make sure it's colourful and bright.
0:09:00 > 0:09:03For more details, head to the Blue Peter website.
0:09:03 > 0:09:06The winner will get to put their mark on a piece of
0:09:06 > 0:09:07Blue Peter history.
0:09:07 > 0:09:11Your design could be on our Big Birthday Balloon.
0:09:11 > 0:09:13How cool is that?
0:09:17 > 0:09:20The answer is very, very cool.
0:09:20 > 0:09:23If you want to be within a chance of winning this amazing prize,
0:09:23 > 0:09:27you need to download and print the form from the Blue Peter website.
0:09:27 > 0:09:29Then you need to fill out all the details on page one here
0:09:29 > 0:09:31to let us know who you are.
0:09:31 > 0:09:34Once you've done that, you need to fill out this Blue Peter ship.
0:09:34 > 0:09:37Make it colourful, make it really bright and really creative -
0:09:37 > 0:09:39that is the important bit.
0:09:39 > 0:09:42After that, you need to fill out the inspirational
0:09:42 > 0:09:43Blue Peter birthday message.
0:09:43 > 0:09:46Now, you've only got 12 words that you can actually use
0:09:46 > 0:09:48in this sentence, so think carefully.
0:09:48 > 0:09:49And after that, you need to tell us
0:09:49 > 0:09:53all about your BP birthday balloon design.
0:09:53 > 0:09:55Once you've done all that - well done - you need to put your
0:09:55 > 0:09:59entries in an envelope like this and send it to the following address.
0:09:59 > 0:10:00It's nice and clear there for you, people.
0:10:00 > 0:10:02But something you do need to do
0:10:02 > 0:10:04is make sure that you use the right postage.
0:10:04 > 0:10:07For example, if you use a big old A4 envelope like this,
0:10:07 > 0:10:10you will need a large - it's that size - envelope stamp,
0:10:10 > 0:10:13so make sure you get that right or you could be disqualified.
0:10:13 > 0:10:17The closing date is Tuesday 23rd of January,
0:10:17 > 0:10:19which is next Tuesday, by the way, so hurry up,
0:10:19 > 0:10:22get designing and get involved with this amazing competition.
0:10:22 > 0:10:25I absolutely love it. And just think - your message,
0:10:25 > 0:10:28your design could be up on that Blue Peter balloon for our 60th birthday.
0:10:28 > 0:10:30It's going to be incredible.
0:10:30 > 0:10:33If you need a bit of inspiration or you're just feeling a bit peckish,
0:10:33 > 0:10:34over to Radzi and his biscuits.
0:10:34 > 0:10:38Indeed, not any biscuits, the Big Birthday Balloon biscuits.
0:10:38 > 0:10:41Feast your eyes on all their creativity, and in fact,
0:10:41 > 0:10:43if I draw your attention to that one just there,
0:10:43 > 0:10:46can you see at the very bottom of that marble effect
0:10:46 > 0:10:49there's a surprise inside? They're actually sprinkles.
0:10:49 > 0:10:51But I'll show you how to make that and much, much more.
0:10:51 > 0:10:54And in fact, for this make, all you need is the following.
0:10:54 > 0:10:55There's a little bit of a list there,
0:10:55 > 0:10:58if you want to pause on your digibox. If you want to jump online,
0:10:58 > 0:11:00all the details of course are on the Blue Peter website.
0:11:00 > 0:11:02But we're just going to get to the making.
0:11:02 > 0:11:04So we kick off with some dough.
0:11:04 > 0:11:07This dough has flour, eggs, butter and sugar inside of it.
0:11:07 > 0:11:10We've let it chill in the fridge and we've brought it out
0:11:10 > 0:11:14so now it is malleable and pliable as per a cookie cutter.
0:11:14 > 0:11:16Let's get it out. So, the cookie cutter comes out.
0:11:16 > 0:11:18This is a slightly larger one.
0:11:18 > 0:11:20I'm going to get it out here and then press it in like so.
0:11:20 > 0:11:24Just for the purposes of you guys at home seeing what I'm going to make,
0:11:24 > 0:11:26I'm going to move this dough to one side,
0:11:26 > 0:11:28but I will actually use all of it in the long run.
0:11:28 > 0:11:31I'll take a smaller cookie cutter
0:11:31 > 0:11:33and I'll then press that one down like so as well.
0:11:33 > 0:11:36Now, I'm actually not going to put that to one side because
0:11:36 > 0:11:39I'm going to use that straight away. We've got the ring of our balloon,
0:11:39 > 0:11:43then it comes to the basket, which is where we use the smaller circle.
0:11:43 > 0:11:45You can take a lot more time than I am here.
0:11:45 > 0:11:48What I do is I take that, add it to the dough,
0:11:48 > 0:11:51and keep doing that until you've used all of the dough.
0:11:51 > 0:11:54And then I'd simply put it in a baking tray
0:11:54 > 0:11:55and place it in the oven.
0:11:55 > 0:12:00The oven temperature is 180 degrees for about ten minutes,
0:12:00 > 0:12:03and they will be lovely and crisp and ready to go.
0:12:03 > 0:12:06But actually, not all of the baking is complete,
0:12:06 > 0:12:09but this for me is where the magic essentially happens
0:12:09 > 0:12:12because I'm going to take these hard-boiled sweets here,
0:12:12 > 0:12:14I'm going to place them inside,
0:12:14 > 0:12:17and if you've got more time than me,
0:12:17 > 0:12:21you will do all the rings with a hard-boiled sweet.
0:12:21 > 0:12:25Any colour will do. And I'll pop these back inside here.
0:12:25 > 0:12:28Now, when these then come out of the oven in five minutes' time,
0:12:28 > 0:12:32I cannot stress just how hot the actual hard-boiled sweet will be.
0:12:32 > 0:12:35It's called boiled for a reason - it really will be boiling.
0:12:35 > 0:12:38But we've let this one cool so I don't need to be careful,
0:12:38 > 0:12:40but please do be careful at home.
0:12:40 > 0:12:42I'll choose two colours - I'll go for orange
0:12:42 > 0:12:45and I'll go for a translucent colour.
0:12:45 > 0:12:48Put these back underneath alongside the two squares,
0:12:48 > 0:12:49which will make up the basket.
0:12:49 > 0:12:52So this is where we add our sprinkles, which is that
0:12:52 > 0:12:55added surprise that I don't think I've ever seen on a biscuit before.
0:12:55 > 0:12:58Then it comes to the melted chocolate, which acts
0:12:58 > 0:13:03as the glue to allow us to press the two biscuit rings together.
0:13:03 > 0:13:06You don't have to be posh like this, you can just ladle it on
0:13:06 > 0:13:09with a teaspoon if that's all that you've got.
0:13:09 > 0:13:11That's all I would do if I was at home in Wolverhampton.
0:13:11 > 0:13:14If I turn this over here like so, on the reverse side,
0:13:14 > 0:13:17which isn't quite as attractive in my opinion as the other side...
0:13:17 > 0:13:21What I'm also showing you is how not to use one...
0:13:21 > 0:13:23I don't even know what this thing's called, I'm from Wolverhampton!
0:13:23 > 0:13:25I don't know how to use this! It's very messy.
0:13:25 > 0:13:28Anyway, we're going to take this, I'm going to turn it upside down,
0:13:28 > 0:13:30I'm going to press it on like so with the other hand.
0:13:30 > 0:13:33You can see there's a little bit of melted chocolate,
0:13:33 > 0:13:35but do you know what? It tastes good, it does taste good.
0:13:35 > 0:13:37I'll do exactly the same with...
0:13:37 > 0:13:39I've forgotten one stage, how can I forget the stage?
0:13:39 > 0:13:41Because if Lindsey did that with her hot-air balloon,
0:13:41 > 0:13:43she wouldn't go anywhere, the balloon would go off.
0:13:43 > 0:13:45So actually, what I should have done is put the...
0:13:45 > 0:13:47HE LAUGHS
0:13:47 > 0:13:49I should have put the laces in, which act as...
0:13:49 > 0:13:51- Lindsey, thank you so much. - Give yourself a wipe.
0:13:51 > 0:13:53I will give myself a wipe
0:13:53 > 0:13:55and I'll give myself a telling-off for not remembering the order.
0:13:55 > 0:13:59Then I do exactly the same with the basket, press it together,
0:13:59 > 0:14:01and then you will have something which looks a lot more
0:14:01 > 0:14:03like this here. LAUGHTER
0:14:03 > 0:14:07Safe to say. I think if you take a close look,
0:14:07 > 0:14:10you will see some of the detail that's gone into the icing here.
0:14:10 > 0:14:11It really is incredible.
0:14:11 > 0:14:13All the details, of course, on the Blue Peter website.
0:14:13 > 0:14:16Take more time than me, people, and be careful, because it's hot.
0:14:16 > 0:14:17Linds, I'm sorry.
0:14:17 > 0:14:21Don't be sorry, we all get messy in the kitchen, that's fine.
0:14:21 > 0:14:24Walk this away. Let's have a look at this week's big badge wall
0:14:24 > 0:14:26covered in all your glorious post. This has been...
0:14:26 > 0:14:28- Radzi is still wiping his hands. - I am.
0:14:28 > 0:14:31Come on, this has been sent in by Hannah from Preston.
0:14:31 > 0:14:32You get a blue badge, my friend,
0:14:32 > 0:14:35because it's Shelley eating some iceberg lettuce.
0:14:35 > 0:14:38- Absolutely classic, well done. - Linds, I've got a present for you.
0:14:38 > 0:14:40- Here's a finished one. - Oh, thanks, Radzi.
0:14:40 > 0:14:42- It was actually Tom that did it, it wasn't me.- Oh, thanks, Tom.
0:14:42 > 0:14:46But now draw your attention to Beth from north Ayrshire,
0:14:46 > 0:14:48who might come from a special place, Linds, north Ayrshire.
0:14:48 > 0:14:50Oh, sorry, that's where my family are from,
0:14:50 > 0:14:52but my mouth was full, so I wasn't going to say.
0:14:52 > 0:14:55Look at the detail, by the way, in this piece of post here.
0:14:55 > 0:14:56The detail is incredible.
0:14:56 > 0:14:58And as we pull wide, you can see there are seven colours
0:14:58 > 0:15:00for the seven different Blue Peter badges.
0:15:00 > 0:15:02Beth, it's got you a BP blue badge, my friend.
0:15:02 > 0:15:05Radz, check this post, are you ready? Harriet has sent this in.
0:15:05 > 0:15:08It's a... Oh! I got caught on the wall.
0:15:08 > 0:15:12But it's been sent in by Harriet and she's got her very own badge.
0:15:12 > 0:15:15But actually, Harriet, we can't send you a badge because you've
0:15:15 > 0:15:18already got a purple, a green, a silver and a blue, apparently,
0:15:18 > 0:15:20so there's nothing we can send you, but maybe,
0:15:20 > 0:15:23in a couple of weeks' time, if you're watching the show,
0:15:23 > 0:15:25there might just be a brand-new BP badge on the way.
0:15:25 > 0:15:28- I can't say anything more. - Our lips are sealed.
0:15:28 > 0:15:30Please keep sending your post in to the usual address.
0:15:30 > 0:15:32Get it on the big badge wall or get it into the Blue Peter office.
0:15:32 > 0:15:35You might get yourself a Blue Peter badge and if you get one of those,
0:15:35 > 0:15:38you can get into over 200 attractions across the UK...
0:15:38 > 0:15:39- BOTH:- For free!
0:15:39 > 0:15:41Now, who would like to see me face plant,
0:15:41 > 0:15:43but not when I'm doing a make?
0:15:43 > 0:15:46- Me!- Then check this out.
0:15:48 > 0:15:51I am going surfing! Now get me on that plane.
0:15:52 > 0:15:53Well, actually,
0:15:53 > 0:15:57the beauty of this challenge is there is no travel needed.
0:15:57 > 0:16:00Because this is indoor surfing!
0:16:00 > 0:16:04It might be winter, it might be cold outside, but that doesn't mean
0:16:04 > 0:16:07that I can't catch and hopefully ride an actual wave.
0:16:07 > 0:16:08Hey!
0:16:08 > 0:16:11And it's all thanks to this machine.
0:16:11 > 0:16:17It pumps 100,000 litres of water over a bouncy rubber surface
0:16:17 > 0:16:22to create a continuous wave that's ten metres wide.
0:16:22 > 0:16:23That looks like the best fun ever.
0:16:23 > 0:16:27But this is Blue Peter, I'm going to be set a challenge, and to make
0:16:27 > 0:16:30sure I get that right, I'm going to be trained by an absolute pro.
0:16:32 > 0:16:36Say hello to Millie Clark, an indoor surfing legend.
0:16:36 > 0:16:40In 2016 she was crowned UK and European champion,
0:16:40 > 0:16:43so she should be able to help me out.
0:16:43 > 0:16:46Millie, come on over.
0:16:46 > 0:16:49That looks incredible. How much fun is it?
0:16:49 > 0:16:51It is absolutely awesome.
0:16:51 > 0:16:53What will I learn today?
0:16:53 > 0:16:56I think we'll get you started on the body board.
0:16:56 > 0:16:59- We'll do some body surfing. - I've got one question.- OK.
0:16:59 > 0:17:01- Will I get to stand up? - Yes, you will.- Yes!
0:17:01 > 0:17:05- That's the thing I'm most excited about. Will I fall?- Yes, definitely.
0:17:05 > 0:17:08- Shall we get started? - Let's do it.- Let's do it, Millie.
0:17:11 > 0:17:14Right, so you want to hold your board a little bit higher than that.
0:17:14 > 0:17:17- That's it. You want it just on your hips.- Yes.- That's perfect.
0:17:17 > 0:17:20When you jump on the wave, make sure your elbows are on the board.
0:17:20 > 0:17:22- Elbows on the board. - That is perfect.
0:17:22 > 0:17:25- You've got it straight away. - Let's go.- Are you ready?- Yeah!
0:17:25 > 0:17:27Hips.
0:17:27 > 0:17:29Yeah!
0:17:29 > 0:17:32This feels incredible.
0:17:32 > 0:17:36You're going to push it out, arms up in the air, and then catch it again.
0:17:37 > 0:17:38Arms up, arms up!
0:17:39 > 0:17:41Yeah!
0:17:41 > 0:17:42Woo!
0:17:42 > 0:17:45With a basic trick under my belt, Millie wants me
0:17:45 > 0:17:47to try something more difficult.
0:17:47 > 0:17:50OK, this time, hands on the board.
0:17:50 > 0:17:51You're going to push it out,
0:17:51 > 0:17:54arms up in the air, then you're going to roll over
0:17:54 > 0:17:57and then bring the board back to you.
0:18:01 > 0:18:03Woo!
0:18:03 > 0:18:05I am really enjoying the body boarding
0:18:05 > 0:18:08and I feel like I'm picking it up quite quickly,
0:18:08 > 0:18:10so Millie wants me to try standing up,
0:18:10 > 0:18:12which means I need a different board.
0:18:19 > 0:18:21Your weight is going to be at the back of the board.
0:18:21 > 0:18:23You want the water to go underneath you.
0:18:23 > 0:18:26You're going to have your knees bent, your back straight.
0:18:26 > 0:18:28- Where do I look? - You're going to look straight ahead.
0:18:28 > 0:18:30Gotcha. I like this.
0:18:30 > 0:18:32I'm going to see the wave, I'm going to feel the wave,
0:18:32 > 0:18:34I'm going to be the wave.
0:18:34 > 0:18:36Bring it on!
0:18:36 > 0:18:38Come on, Radzi, you can do this.
0:18:40 > 0:18:41Oh, dear.
0:18:42 > 0:18:45I don't know how long it was, but that was good.
0:18:45 > 0:18:48Now it's time to get a lot better.
0:18:48 > 0:18:50Just look at the concentration on my face.
0:18:50 > 0:18:53I'm trying so hard just to keep my balance.
0:18:57 > 0:19:01That's better, but I need to be able to stand up for longer than that,
0:19:01 > 0:19:02so I keep trying.
0:19:09 > 0:19:11That's it, slowly come up.
0:19:11 > 0:19:15- Slowly but surely, I start to get it.- Good.
0:19:15 > 0:19:18My confidence is building and I'm really enjoying this.
0:19:18 > 0:19:21But now it's time to put my very basic skills,
0:19:21 > 0:19:26and I mean basic, to the test with an indoor surfing challenge.
0:19:26 > 0:19:28What could possibly go wrong?
0:19:28 > 0:19:30I have no idea how good it looks.
0:19:30 > 0:19:31I know I feel like a professional surfer,
0:19:31 > 0:19:33I don't know if I look like one.
0:19:33 > 0:19:36It's safe to say I can stand up,
0:19:36 > 0:19:39but is it enough to actually complete this challenge?
0:19:39 > 0:19:41Bring it on, baby!
0:19:42 > 0:19:45I'm going to perform a surfing routine with Millie
0:19:45 > 0:19:50and fellow top indoor surfer Chris. We are ready for our performance.
0:19:50 > 0:19:53I've got to start with a superhero 360, then a catch.
0:19:54 > 0:19:57This is the body board trick I learnt in training.
0:19:57 > 0:20:00Then Millie and Chris will perform some amazing moves
0:20:00 > 0:20:02and I'll have to finish things off with something
0:20:02 > 0:20:04I've not attempted before, an ollie,
0:20:04 > 0:20:07which is basically a jump with the board.
0:20:07 > 0:20:08Oh, dear.
0:20:08 > 0:20:09Start the water.
0:20:14 > 0:20:18First up is my superman 360.
0:20:18 > 0:20:22I need to make sure I'm nice and controlled before I start.
0:20:22 > 0:20:23Here we go.
0:20:25 > 0:20:27Oh, that was good!
0:20:27 > 0:20:29Now I need to make way for the pros.
0:20:33 > 0:20:37Just look at their control. They make this a look so easy.
0:20:39 > 0:20:43Millie nails her trick and Chris attempts to flip his board.
0:20:45 > 0:20:47Oh!
0:20:47 > 0:20:49Would you look at that?
0:20:49 > 0:20:51Then it's time for my finale.
0:20:51 > 0:20:53Can I do my ollie?
0:20:55 > 0:20:57Hold it, Radzi, hold it!
0:20:59 > 0:21:01Hey!
0:21:01 > 0:21:03OK, I know what you're thinking, it wasn't huge,
0:21:03 > 0:21:04but I stayed on my feet!
0:21:08 > 0:21:12From total novice to surfing with the pros in just one day.
0:21:14 > 0:21:18That was awesome. I say that was awesome, they were awesome.
0:21:18 > 0:21:20And did you see the size of that ollie?
0:21:20 > 0:21:23OK, it might have been a really small ollie,
0:21:23 > 0:21:26but I'll tell you what, what a day it's been.
0:21:26 > 0:21:29And indoor surfing, what a sport.
0:21:31 > 0:21:33I think Radzi did very well.
0:21:33 > 0:21:36Rather you than me, though, Radz. Sore bottom!
0:21:36 > 0:21:38Now, if you absolutely loved Blue Planet II,
0:21:38 > 0:21:41you are going to love what is on tonight, BBC One at eight o'clock.
0:21:41 > 0:21:44It's called Big Cats and it's a brand-new natural history series.
0:21:44 > 0:21:47So, here to tell us more about this wonderful show is producer Paul
0:21:47 > 0:21:51- and camera op Sue. Hello.- Hi. - Welcome to the show.
0:21:51 > 0:21:53Now, episode one was on last week, wasn't it?
0:21:53 > 0:21:56And you can see these beautiful shots from the show here.
0:21:56 > 0:21:59To anyone who hasn't seen it, Paul, what's it all about?
0:21:59 > 0:22:00I'm guessing cats.
0:22:00 > 0:22:02Yeah, it's a celebration of all wildcats,
0:22:02 > 0:22:05really, from the big tigers and leopards all the way through
0:22:05 > 0:22:08to small, cuddly, cute, weird ones that people might not have heard of.
0:22:08 > 0:22:09We like cute, weird ones.
0:22:09 > 0:22:12Sue, you've filmed some incredible animals, not just cats,
0:22:12 > 0:22:15but are cats quite different to film? Are they quite tricky?
0:22:15 > 0:22:17Yeah, cats are incredibly tricky to film.
0:22:17 > 0:22:19I mean, for a start, they are amazingly camouflaged,
0:22:19 > 0:22:23they are ambush predators, so they tend to keep themselves hidden,
0:22:23 > 0:22:25and they have got these super senses, so generally
0:22:25 > 0:22:27they'll have spotted you miles before you've spotted them.
0:22:27 > 0:22:30They are just so beautiful, but they can be shy.
0:22:30 > 0:22:32Except for one that you encountered, Paul. This is quite a funny story.
0:22:32 > 0:22:35- What happened to you? - We were filming an ocelot,
0:22:35 > 0:22:38a beautiful cat in the jungle of Costa Rica, and there was one
0:22:38 > 0:22:41that we knew we could get quite close to if we could find it.
0:22:41 > 0:22:43- Oh, they're beautiful, aren't they? - Stunning animal.- Wow.
0:22:43 > 0:22:46Now, we spent three days trying to find this cat
0:22:46 > 0:22:48in a patch of jungle and we couldn't see it at all.
0:22:48 > 0:22:50Then one night I went back to my tent
0:22:50 > 0:22:53and she was laying on my bed, covered in mud, eating my pants.
0:22:53 > 0:22:56We've actually got a photo of this. Have a look.
0:22:56 > 0:22:59- Look, there she is, eating Paul's pants.- A wildcat.
0:22:59 > 0:23:01So they can be cheeky as well.
0:23:01 > 0:23:04If they don't crawl into your tent and go through your underwear,
0:23:04 > 0:23:06are there other ways of looking out for cats?
0:23:06 > 0:23:09Yeah, I mean, we tend to use a lot of local experts on the ground and
0:23:09 > 0:23:11the latest technology, but often you kind of fall back
0:23:11 > 0:23:13onto basic field craft skills,
0:23:13 > 0:23:15which I think we're going to show you a bit about now.
0:23:15 > 0:23:17Yeah, we've got a paw here, haven't we, Paul?
0:23:17 > 0:23:20Yeah, this is a very large paw of a tiger, the biggest cat,
0:23:20 > 0:23:23and you can tell a lot by looking at paws.
0:23:23 > 0:23:26This one was walking very slowly and because it had no claw marks
0:23:26 > 0:23:30around it, you can tell it was walking rather than running.
0:23:30 > 0:23:33Oh, that's amazing, all from just a paw print. It's incredible.
0:23:33 > 0:23:34You're going to put my knowledge...
0:23:34 > 0:23:36Well, not knowledge, lack of knowledge to the test now,
0:23:36 > 0:23:39- aren't you, Sue?- Yeah, we've got three different animal calls
0:23:39 > 0:23:42and we'd like you to try and work out if you can tell which is a cat.
0:23:42 > 0:23:45OK, so is it a cat or not? That's the name of the game.
0:23:45 > 0:23:48Play along at home, do. OK, first one, here we go.
0:23:48 > 0:23:51SCREECHING
0:23:51 > 0:23:54- What do you think that is? - I think it sounds too angry.
0:23:54 > 0:23:57It sounds like an elephant or something. I'm going to say not cat.
0:23:57 > 0:23:58Let's have a look.
0:23:58 > 0:24:03- Oh, great.- This is actually a snow leopard calling for a mate,
0:24:03 > 0:24:08and that was really useful for our team to help them film
0:24:08 > 0:24:09- when they're out in the wild. - Amazing.
0:24:09 > 0:24:11OK, we've got another noise. Let's hear it.
0:24:11 > 0:24:14SHORT BARKING CRIES
0:24:15 > 0:24:18- I think that's a monkey. - Shall we have a look?
0:24:18 > 0:24:20Yeah, let's have a look, let's have a little cheeky look.
0:24:20 > 0:24:23- Hello. Oh!- Yeah, it's a langur monkey and also a chital deer,
0:24:23 > 0:24:26- so we actually gave you two sounds there.- That was cheeky!
0:24:26 > 0:24:28Yeah, it was a little bit.
0:24:28 > 0:24:30They're alarm calling, so they will be in somewhere like India,
0:24:30 > 0:24:33alarm calling about a tiger which might be nearby.
0:24:33 > 0:24:36Amazing, OK. Final sound, have we got time? Let's do another one.
0:24:36 > 0:24:37CROAKING
0:24:37 > 0:24:39That is not a cat.
0:24:39 > 0:24:41- Shall we have a look? - That sounds like a hyena.
0:24:41 > 0:24:44Well, that would be a cat. Be quiet, Lindsey. What is it?
0:24:44 > 0:24:46- It's a cat, great. - This is actually a fishing cat,
0:24:46 > 0:24:48and this is what Paul and I filmed in Bangladesh.
0:24:48 > 0:24:50And that sound, that kind of quacking sound,
0:24:50 > 0:24:53- is her calling for her kittens.- OK.
0:24:53 > 0:24:55I wish that was the end of this item,
0:24:55 > 0:25:00but there's trays of poo in front of me and blue gloves.
0:25:00 > 0:25:03- We've saved this bit to the live show, haven't we, Paul?- We have.
0:25:03 > 0:25:05I think it's time to get stuck in because...
0:25:05 > 0:25:07What do you mean, stuck in?
0:25:07 > 0:25:10- We've brought a nice selection of fresh poo...- Oh, thanks, Paul!
0:25:10 > 0:25:12- ..for you to have a look at. - That's so good of you.
0:25:12 > 0:25:14It's one way we can tell that there is a cat nearby
0:25:14 > 0:25:18is by looking at its poo. You can tell an awful lot about poo.
0:25:18 > 0:25:21OK, don't play along at home if you've got cat poo laying around.
0:25:21 > 0:25:22Or if you're eating, look away.
0:25:22 > 0:25:26Put us on pause. OK, what have we got here, then?
0:25:26 > 0:25:29So, these are from Bristol Zoo. We have three samples.
0:25:29 > 0:25:32One of them is cat poo, the other two are something very different.
0:25:32 > 0:25:34I think it's good to get stuck in, have a look,
0:25:34 > 0:25:36- see what we can find out. - Bleh! Sorry.
0:25:38 > 0:25:39Sorry, just...
0:25:41 > 0:25:43MAN'S VOICE: Pick it up!
0:25:43 > 0:25:45- Yeah, it's quite whiffy. - I actually can't...
0:25:45 > 0:25:47We shouldn't have saved this till the live.
0:25:47 > 0:25:50Right, so this is balls of poo.
0:25:50 > 0:25:52LAUGHTER
0:25:52 > 0:25:54Some balls...
0:25:54 > 0:25:55- SHE COUGHS - OK.
0:25:55 > 0:25:58- This one looks a bit less cat... - Have you farted?
0:26:00 > 0:26:02Stop it! And this one's wet...
0:26:02 > 0:26:04SHE COUGHS
0:26:04 > 0:26:06- It's pretty strong. - Which one's the cat poo, Linds?
0:26:06 > 0:26:10- I don't know, that one's wet. - That's got hair in.- I'm crying.
0:26:10 > 0:26:15- I'm going to go this one. - Why are you touching it, Paul?
0:26:15 > 0:26:17- We've got to get in there to... - What's wrong with you, Paul?

0:26:20 > 0:26:24- Oh, no, that one. This one. - This one here?
0:26:24 > 0:26:27Well, yeah, this is actually lion poo, and they do a great big pile.
0:26:27 > 0:26:30And what's really interesting is, if you look at it closely,
0:26:30 > 0:26:32you can see bones and hair, and that's what it's eaten,
0:26:32 > 0:26:34- so it shows it's a predator.- Wow.
0:26:34 > 0:26:35And unlike domestic cats,
0:26:35 > 0:26:38big wildcats like to leave big piles as warnings.
0:26:38 > 0:26:42- Paul, you're wafting it around. - I'm sorry.- I feel really sick.
