0:06:04 > 0:06:06awesome at magic - can I see some magic, please?!
0:06:06 > 0:06:10Yes. I have got the biggest illusion in the
0:06:10 > 0:06:12- world of magic.- OK.
0:06:12 > 0:06:15The vanishing Statue of Liberty illusion. Remember, no
0:06:15 > 0:06:18camera tricks! Watch.
0:06:21 > 0:06:23ALL: WHOA!
0:06:25 > 0:06:29What just happened? I'm going to put that down because you are clearly a
0:06:29 > 0:06:31- wizard.- A witch!
0:06:31 > 0:06:33A witch! OK, fine, I will not argue
0:06:33 > 0:06:35with you, you look very mean and fierce!
0:06:35 > 0:06:37So that's what got you to Britain's Got Talent,
0:06:37 > 0:06:39How was Britain's Got Talent?
0:06:39 > 0:06:43It was amazing because there were lots of nice people and the
0:06:43 > 0:06:45judges were really nice as well.
0:06:45 > 0:06:47So that's in the past, let's talk about
0:06:47 > 0:06:50the future. 2018, this long year ahead of us,
0:06:50 > 0:06:53the Blue Peter 60th year, what's in store for Issy?
0:06:53 > 0:06:57In two weeks' time, I'm going to be the youngest headliner ever for the
0:06:57 > 0:07:01biggest magic convention, at the Blackpool Opera House.
0:07:01 > 0:07:04I would love it if you came and saw me.
0:07:04 > 0:07:07I'll absolutely have to do that. How about, in return,
0:07:07 > 0:07:10what you can do, you can tell me a secret, how you are going to make
0:07:10 > 0:07:13the magic...of actually seeing the badge from the safe and
0:07:13 > 0:07:15- seeing it for real! - No.
0:07:15 > 0:07:16LAUGHTER
0:07:16 > 0:07:20OK! You're playing hard to get, that's fine. However, if you'd like
0:07:20 > 0:07:23to see a trick from Issy Simpson in the not-too-distant future, you can
0:07:23 > 0:07:26see a trick online on the Blue Peter website.
0:07:26 > 0:07:29- Issy, question for you.- Yes?- Do you like Harry Potter?
0:07:29 > 0:07:33I love Harry Potter. Once, I even dressed up as a character.
0:07:33 > 0:07:35And that's you there. Clearly
0:07:35 > 0:07:38having a whale of a time. So you'll love this.
0:07:38 > 0:07:39Lindsey...
0:07:39 > 0:07:41That's right. Today isn't just
0:07:41 > 0:07:44a special show for Blue Peter because it's our 5,000th episode,
0:07:44 > 0:07:47it's also a very special day for Harry Potter,
0:07:47 > 0:07:49which has hit a milestone because
0:07:49 > 0:07:53worldwide, Harry Potter has sold 500 million books. Isn't that mad?
0:07:54 > 0:07:57So, we are celebrating that today.
0:07:57 > 0:08:01Today is the annual Harry Potter Book Night, which is very exciting.
0:08:01 > 0:08:04Where fans gather all over the country to celebrate their love for
0:08:04 > 0:08:06the books and we are doing just that.
0:08:06 > 0:08:08So, please welcome Harry Potter illustrator Jonny!
0:08:08 > 0:08:10- Hello, Jonny!- Hi.
0:08:11 > 0:08:14It's a special day for you to be here and
0:08:14 > 0:08:18these are your wonderful creations. These are absolutely beautiful!
0:08:18 > 0:08:21- Yes, these are the recent children's editions of Harry Potter.- Wow, it's
0:08:21 > 0:08:26a big responsibility to be the illustrator for Harry Potter. Were
0:08:26 > 0:08:29you a Harry Potter super fan, did you love the books?
0:08:29 > 0:08:31No, I hadn't read any of the books!
0:08:31 > 0:08:34I was a bit worried when I started that the Harry Potter fans
0:08:34 > 0:08:37would see me as an impostor, like a Muggle...
0:08:37 > 0:08:39- Yeah! Muggle!- ..who didn't really know his stuff.
0:08:39 > 0:08:41- But because you're so good, they let you in?- It kind of
0:08:41 > 0:08:43helped in the end because I could
0:08:43 > 0:08:46approach it having not known all those characters and
0:08:46 > 0:08:48- other people's take on it. - That's true.
0:08:48 > 0:08:50And you are working on something really special for
0:08:50 > 0:08:52our 5,000th episode, especially for us, aren't you?
0:08:52 > 0:08:54- Yes.- Yes, well, let's have a look at that
0:08:54 > 0:08:56because you said you were coming along,
0:08:56 > 0:08:58I thought you were going to bring paper and pen but you've
0:08:58 > 0:09:01brought this massive tablet along, so talk to me about this.
0:09:01 > 0:09:03Yes, I work digitally most of the
0:09:03 > 0:09:05time. I used to work on paper but if you go wrong,
0:09:05 > 0:09:08you have to start again. So, I started working digitally...
0:09:08 > 0:09:10- It means you can...- Oh, hello...
0:09:10 > 0:09:13..you can zoom in, for one.
0:09:13 > 0:09:15- Good!- And you can work your
0:09:15 > 0:09:17way through the images and save them.
0:09:17 > 0:09:19- You can see...- You can see...
0:09:19 > 0:09:21You can build up the image. Here, I thought Harry
0:09:21 > 0:09:24- looked a bit young so I moved his glasses up.- Ah...
0:09:24 > 0:09:26Putting some light on...
0:09:26 > 0:09:30Interesting that you do Harry first and then you do the owl, Hedwig.
0:09:30 > 0:09:32I thought I'd better get Harry right first.
0:09:32 > 0:09:35Sure that's quite important, I can see why you thought that.
0:09:35 > 0:09:36I wanted him to be like
0:09:36 > 0:09:38when he first started at Hogwarts, so he's quite young.
0:09:38 > 0:09:41And I used to forget his scar a lot, so I had to put on a
0:09:41 > 0:09:43Post-it note saying, "scar," so I never forgot his scar.
0:09:43 > 0:09:45- Oh, really!- As I work through, I can sort of make...
0:09:45 > 0:09:48..Hedwig sit upright cos he looked like he'd fall off
0:09:48 > 0:09:50and I just gradually work through until I get a finished image -
0:09:50 > 0:09:52like this one.
0:09:52 > 0:09:55They are absolutely beautiful, your designs. But that one, as great as
0:09:55 > 0:09:58it is, it's not quite finished yet, is it?
0:09:58 > 0:10:00- No, I've got to add a badge to his jumper.- Woo!
0:10:00 > 0:10:02You do, yes, thanks, Jack!
0:10:02 > 0:10:04But not just any old badge -
0:10:04 > 0:10:07our brand-new mystery badge is going to go
0:10:07 > 0:10:09on Harry Potter, which is very cool.
0:10:09 > 0:10:12So, do you think you can create that in the next sort of ten mins or so?
0:10:12 > 0:10:15- Yes, I'm going to paint quickly. - Yes, you get on with that, Jonny and
0:10:15 > 0:10:18while you do that, it wouldn't be the 5,000th episode without an
0:10:18 > 0:10:20amazing challenge. Here's one that
0:10:20 > 0:10:23took me 30 metres above the River Thames.
0:10:24 > 0:10:28Today, I'm at the River Thames in London to meet a rather old girl.
0:10:28 > 0:10:29She has certainly been through the
0:10:29 > 0:10:31wars and today she has got me to deal with.
0:10:33 > 0:10:36I'm heading on board HMS Belfast,
0:10:36 > 0:10:39once a proud Royal Navy warship that took
0:10:39 > 0:10:43part in some of the greatest missions of the Second World War.
0:10:43 > 0:10:46She is now moored in London and attracts hundreds of thousands of
0:10:46 > 0:10:50visitors every year. Being the oldest surviving World War II
0:10:50 > 0:10:54cruiser in Europe, it's really important that this piece of history
0:10:54 > 0:10:56is kept in top condition.
0:10:59 > 0:11:01I've been given the job of making sure
0:11:01 > 0:11:07HMS Belfast is looking her best. And there's plenty to do. This ship is
0:11:07 > 0:11:11massive! In fact, you could almost lie Big Ben's clock tower
0:11:11 > 0:11:13alongside its decks - twice.
0:11:15 > 0:11:19To find out more, I'm meeting Ian from the Imperial War Museum.
0:11:19 > 0:11:23- Tell me why HMS Belfast is so special.- She's a really historic
0:11:23 > 0:11:27ship. She was commissioned into the Royal Navy in 1939, just before the
0:11:27 > 0:11:29Second World War started, so she
0:11:29 > 0:11:31really did see a lot of service and she was in the Royal Navy
0:11:31 > 0:11:33until the mid-1960s.
0:11:33 > 0:11:36- Amazing that she is still standing. - Absolutely.- And it must be
0:11:36 > 0:11:40- quite difficult to keep her in good condition.- Yes!- How
0:11:40 > 0:11:42do you do that?
0:11:42 > 0:11:43There are an awful lot of tasks we
0:11:43 > 0:11:46need to do to keep her shipshape. Perhaps we can have a look and do
0:11:46 > 0:11:48- some of it now?- I'd love to.
0:11:50 > 0:11:54I'm going 30 metres above the water to change the halyards,
0:11:54 > 0:11:57otherwise known as the ropes that hold the ship's flags.
0:11:57 > 0:12:01I'm going to need some hi vis, a hard hat and a
0:12:01 > 0:12:04- man called Dave.- Right, then, up you come.
0:12:04 > 0:12:06Here we go.
0:12:06 > 0:12:09Already feels quite a long way up and we
0:12:09 > 0:12:13haven't gone anywhere yet. Don't look down! Don't look down. Oww!
0:12:13 > 0:12:15Watch your head.
0:12:15 > 0:12:16I'm glad I had a helmet on.
0:12:17 > 0:12:21- A great view up here. - All right, Lindsey. Come up.
0:12:21 > 0:12:22Go, go, go.
0:12:22 > 0:12:26I've got to keep climbing but I'm only halfway and now it's getting a
0:12:26 > 0:12:29bit scary. Oh, I don't want to look down!
0:12:32 > 0:12:34OK, well, this is nuts.
0:12:35 > 0:12:37Amazing. I've made it
0:12:37 > 0:12:41to the top. I guess it's time to relax and take in the view, right?
0:12:41 > 0:12:43- We're not going out over there? - That's it.
0:12:43 > 0:12:45- Stop it!- That's where we're going.
0:12:45 > 0:12:48No, stop it. What?
0:12:48 > 0:12:50OK... Not only am I
0:12:50 > 0:12:5330 metres up the mast, I've now got to hang off the side.
0:12:53 > 0:12:56I thought this was going to be a bit of a laugh.
0:12:56 > 0:12:59- It's actually quite intense. - Start climbing out, put
0:12:59 > 0:13:02- your feet out onto that white beam. - On the white beam?
0:13:02 > 0:13:04I thought that there would be
0:13:04 > 0:13:08- a platform.- There's no platform.- A cafe, a bench!
