:02:44. > :02:48.with Blue Peter for nearly 50 years. We have Jesus, Joseph - the three

:02:49. > :02:54.wise men. We have the accept pardons. They are there for one --

:02:55. > :02:58.have the shepherds. They are there to see the baby. As a Christian

:02:59. > :03:03.myself, Christmas is a very special time for me. It is where we

:03:04. > :03:09.celebrate the birth of Jesus with traditions. Do you have any

:03:10. > :03:14.traditions? We all put a mince pie and a carrot by the chimney so that

:03:15. > :03:21.Santa knows where to come. We have done it since we were so long. My

:03:22. > :03:26.favourite, chocolate for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I watch Santa

:03:27. > :03:32.Claus the movie - it is one of my favourite things to dof at Christmas

:03:39. > :03:43.bbc.co.uk/bluepeter. Join in the discussion.

:03:44. > :03:50.The badge wall is covered in all of your Christmas post. Look at the

:03:51. > :03:54.stocking there - Alina has hand-stitched the stocking. A

:03:55. > :04:00.brilliant present. Perfect for all the gadgets you want in it. We have

:04:01. > :04:05.Barney, Lindsey and that's the star I put on top of the Trafalgar Square

:04:06. > :04:14.Christmas tree. And you didn't drop it! This has Rudolph the red nosed

:04:15. > :04:22.reindeer and a gingerbread man. Thank you - we have loved your post.

:04:23. > :04:30.Rudolph of has to have that nose because he needs to follow the slay.

:04:31. > :04:36.My grandma has -- sleigh. My grandma has a red nose at Christmas. Let's

:04:37. > :04:41.talk about what we'll make today, not just Christmas tree biscuits. We

:04:42. > :04:47.have star-shaped ones as well. As you can see in the middle it has a

:04:48. > :04:51.stain glass window, which is traditional at Christmas as well. We

:04:52. > :05:01.have all washed our hands. Here are the ingredients you need:

:05:02. > :05:07.We have put together the dough for you, so it is quick. You mix the

:05:08. > :05:12.flour, butter and sugar together and it will give you one of these. All

:05:13. > :05:16.the details are on the website, go and check it out. What do you like

:05:17. > :05:20.about Christmas. Let's have a Christmas chat. Spending time with

:05:21. > :05:27.my family. Nice answer. Are your family watching? I think so. Food.

:05:28. > :05:31.Anything else? Presents. Just everything generally. How about

:05:32. > :05:36.baking and making some cool biscuits for your friends and family. See

:05:37. > :05:39.what I am trying to do there! It is important to put flour on to your

:05:40. > :05:45.table if you are going to roll it out. You can put some on the top or

:05:46. > :05:50.on the rolling pin. It is up to you. Have you watched Junior Bake Off?

:05:51. > :05:57.What a show that is! It was very emotional - yes. We wept at the

:05:58. > :06:03.cakes. The cakes were in tiers! I say, that was a good one. Nobody is

:06:04. > :06:09.laughing! Favourite bakes from there? Marble cake. Always a winner.

:06:10. > :06:16.Chocolate cake. Always a winner. Did you know that in Poland we have a

:06:17. > :06:20.tradition on 24th, here it is Christmas Eve, to make gingerbread

:06:21. > :06:25.biscuits, heart shaped. That is nice. We can make them here right

:06:26. > :06:29.now. They are not ginger but tasty. It is a shortbread we are making.

:06:30. > :06:36.You can use cookie cutters. You have fired right into the lead there. If

:06:37. > :06:40.it was a race, you would video won! We'll -- you would have won! We'll

:06:41. > :06:44.put the cookie cutter on the outside. Try and put them to the

:06:45. > :06:48.side to try and use up as much of the dough as possible. That is a

:06:49. > :06:51.beautifully rolled piece of dough. The boys are getting on really well

:06:52. > :07:10.here. You can tell you have baked before. Yes. We love baking. You can

:07:11. > :07:17.see is wicker has cut out the -- wicker has cut -- Wiktor has cut out

:07:18. > :07:22.the middle of his cookie here. You can use a palate knife to scrape

:07:23. > :07:28.them off the table and put them on to a baking tray. You have gone for

:07:29. > :07:31.stars too? If you try and do it like this and try not to break your

:07:32. > :07:36.biscuit. Try and keep the shape. Once you have it off the table, try

:07:37. > :07:42.and generally lift it and place it on to the tray like that. Then you

:07:43. > :07:47.need to make the sweet filling. These are boiled sweets. They will

:07:48. > :07:51.melt in the oven. One sweet per biscuit. The best way to break them

:07:52. > :07:56.down - it is great - it is the fun part. Put them into these freezer

:07:57. > :08:01.bags, seal it and then what we'll do is put them into the corner and

:08:02. > :08:05.whack them with a rolling pin. Just like that! Obviously mind your

:08:06. > :08:09.fingers. I am a trained professional. Once you have done

:08:10. > :08:15.that for about four days, it should look a bit like this. It is like a

:08:16. > :08:19.crystal sweet. All you do is take the crystals and place them in the

:08:20. > :08:22.middle of your biscuit like that. It looks tasty. It smells like

:08:23. > :08:26.raspberries over here. It is beautiful! We have a tray here which

:08:27. > :08:31.we can use. If you want to help me put some fillings into those ones.

:08:32. > :08:38.Go for it, girls. That's it - beautiful! Do you want

:08:39. > :08:47.to have a go Wiktor. Which one are you? Wiktor or Wiktor. Very

:08:48. > :08:54.delicately done as well, boys. 180 degrees. Make sure you use a towel

:08:55. > :08:58.if it is going to be hot. 15 minutes later, as if by magic, they will

:08:59. > :09:04.look like this. Be careful when you are in the oven. They will be hot.

:09:05. > :09:08.Leave them to cool for a while. In the mean time, we can eat the ones

:09:09. > :09:15.made earlier. All the details are on the BBC website. Tuck in. Thank you

:09:16. > :09:22.for your help. You were starred. Of course, over to Radzi. Why do I do

:09:23. > :09:33.comedy? It never works! Now it is time for another festive treat. We

:09:34. > :09:38.are joined by the cast of Dickens Abridged. You may now Oliver Twist,

:09:39. > :09:42.Great Expectations. There are so many good ones. The cast bring so

:09:43. > :09:47.many characters to life in a really funny way. Hooer is a snip et of

:09:48. > :09:55.their West End show of a Christmas carol. My name is skouj. I used to

:09:56. > :10:03.think Christmas was stupid. Bar hum bum. Then I met three -- humbug.

:10:04. > :10:10.Then I met three ghosts. They taught me the meaning of life. What really

:10:11. > :10:19.Opened my heart was seeing my poor clerk, be Bob, caring for his sickly

:10:20. > :10:21.son, Tiny Tim. You stand here by the fire while I sing a song about how

:10:22. > :10:33.much I love you. Hsh hshl his bones are weak and --

:10:34. > :10:43.# His bones are weak and brittle. His eyes are pale and dim

:10:44. > :10:50.# He has a twisted foot # And whithered limbs

:10:51. > :10:57.# I will be there when he needs me # To hold his little hand in mine

:10:58. > :11:11.# He is my darling boy # My heart belongs to him

:11:12. > :11:19.He's tiny Tim. # Oh, Tiny Tim.

:11:20. > :11:23.# On Christmas Eve, I watch him sit besides the fire

:11:24. > :11:27.# He is so frail, I am afraid he will expire

:11:28. > :11:31.# So I do all I can to help my little son

:11:32. > :11:46.# Because I love to hear his voice cry out

:11:47. > :11:53.# God, bless us, everyone # Go Tiny, go Tiny

:11:54. > :12:16.# Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah So good. The a Christmas carol is

:12:17. > :12:18.about a family who think about other people who are worse off than

:12:19. > :12:24.themselves. Christmas is a great time for being generous and helping

:12:25. > :12:28.others. For many people in the UK Christmas can be a difficult time.

:12:29. > :12:37.That is right. This week I went to meet others who help people all year

:12:38. > :12:44.around, showing a special Christmas spirit.

:12:45. > :12:48.People celebrate Christmas by giving and receiving presents, eating

:12:49. > :12:54.turkey and lots of Christmas pudding. Imagine Christmas without

:12:55. > :12:58.any of these things - with little food on such a special day. For many

:12:59. > :13:02.that will be the reality this December. Over 13 million people in

:13:03. > :13:07.the UK live in poverty. 3.5 million children sometimes go hungry. Help

:13:08. > :13:11.is at hand from food banks, where people can come for help and

:13:12. > :13:15.support. There are over 500 food banks in the country, like this one

:13:16. > :13:25.- the Hope Centre in Coventry, which is one of the busy busiest food

:13:26. > :13:30.banks in the UK. I have come to meet the manager. What is a food bank? It

:13:31. > :13:34.is a place where you can get emergency food provision for three

:13:35. > :13:40.days. Things like beans, tomatoes, soup, meat, tea. All sorts of

:13:41. > :13:49.things. All the essentials, isn't it? A lot of people struggle to make

:13:50. > :13:56.ends meet. Do you get a lot of people coming in and out? 1, 600 per

:13:57. > :14:01.month. That is a loot of families. A lot of young families. How does all

:14:02. > :14:09.this food get here? Today, I am going to find out.

:14:10. > :14:14.Some schools help out by holding food bank collegeses. I have come to

:14:15. > :14:19.see -- bank collections. I have come to see what this school has got. I

:14:20. > :14:24.have brought sweet corn and baked beans. Why is it important to get

:14:25. > :14:28.involved? Because we can give food to people who don't have much. It is

:14:29. > :14:34.a nice thing to do at Christmas. Because Christmas is all about...

:14:35. > :14:45.Sharing. Grapefruit salad. Tomatoes. Peaches. Pasta. Carrots. Noodles.

:14:46. > :14:51.Tuna. Hot dogs. Red kidney beans. Chickle noodle soup. Thank you for

:14:52. > :15:01.all donations. The food is brought into a warehouse

:15:02. > :15:07.where they are sorted out. Helping out are These children. How does it

:15:08. > :15:11.feel to help out? It is good to get involved. It is really good because

:15:12. > :15:14.it shows that people are actually thinking of other people and so,

:15:15. > :15:17.yeah, it is good to know that the school is helping the people. Why do

:15:18. > :15:22.you think it is important that people get involved and fill up

:15:23. > :15:26.these boxes? Because there are so many people out here who don't have

:15:27. > :15:30.the opportunity to go out to a regular shop and buy the basic food

:15:31. > :15:33.supplies, especially at this time of the year. It is your first time

:15:34. > :15:38.volunteering - would you do it again? I would again. It is great to

:15:39. > :15:44.see the food donated goes to a useful cause. It is staggering how

:15:45. > :15:48.much is here? It is the festive season, so it is good to give back.

:15:49. > :15:55.Once the food is sorted, it is delivered to places like the Hope

:15:56. > :15:59.Centre, where families come to get help and talk to the volunteers. I

:16:00. > :16:04.met Jay, one of the people who uses the food bank. How has the centre

:16:05. > :16:08.helped you? It has helped tremendously. In times of need I

:16:09. > :16:12.know I can come to the Hope Centre and get some food. It is a great

:16:13. > :16:15.help. It is needed. There are a lot of people who are hungry in the

:16:16. > :16:20.country that you don't realise. The people who donate - they are

:16:21. > :16:24.marvellous. If I am ever in a better position I would always donate to

:16:25. > :16:27.the food bank. It is a marvellous project.

:16:28. > :16:32.Thanks to other people's generosity people here at the centre are taking

:16:33. > :16:39.home a much-needed and very welcome food bag. At a time when many of us

:16:40. > :16:48.enjoy a special meal, food banks help people all over the UK have a

:16:49. > :16:52.happier, hunger-free Christmas. Now, this is the mart of the show that

:16:53. > :16:56.many of you -- part of the show that many of you will have looked forward

:16:57. > :17:00.to, when we announce our three winners of the epic doctor who

:17:01. > :17:07.competition. A A few weeks ago we gave you the

:17:08. > :17:13.chance to enter a competition, design three sonic device for three

:17:14. > :17:19.characters on the show. They are Strax, Flint and Madam Vastra. They

:17:20. > :17:25.will appear on the brand new series of Doctor Who, alongside Peter

:17:26. > :17:35.Capaldi. So a panel of judges studied these images. Among them was

:17:36. > :17:39.the boss of Doctor Who and the lead writer, Stephen Moffat.

:17:40. > :17:45.Everyone is good enough to be in Doctor Who. There is a huge - there

:17:46. > :17:48.were so many stories - that is what impressed me. It was not just the

:17:49. > :17:54.idea or the drawing or something simple - it was the back story to

:17:55. > :18:00.what this does, who the limitations are. How it gives you something. It

:18:01. > :18:05.is more than just design, it is actual narrative. A huge exercise of

:18:06. > :18:09.the imagination. Over 12 days we had 3, 600 entries, which is amazing.

:18:10. > :18:15.Thank you so much to everyone who got involved. Of course, there can

:18:16. > :18:26.only be three winners. Can we get a who-mongous round of

:18:27. > :18:30.applause for our winners for 2013, Amber, Connor and Arthur?

:18:31. > :18:35.APPLAUSE Welcome to the show. Congratulations

:18:36. > :18:38.are in order, because you are wearing your orange competition

:18:39. > :18:43.badges. Not many people have those badges. Let's talk about your

:18:44. > :18:50.designs. Arthur, we start with you. You designed a device for Strax.

:18:51. > :18:57.Talk us through your device. I thought up this and each of the

:18:58. > :19:03.lenses has a different power, so the first one is an x-ray, that is for

:19:04. > :19:09.Strax to find all - to find people's broken bones if they have any. A

:19:10. > :19:14.diagnostic lens to see if people have any illnesses and a thermal

:19:15. > :19:20.lens to see if anything pop up, so he's ready for action.

:19:21. > :19:22.It really is a brilliant idea. It is designed specifically for Strax.

:19:23. > :19:27.Stephen Moffat who looked at your idea said he thought it was a

:19:28. > :19:32.beautiful image. He says it makes you want to pick it up and use it.

:19:33. > :19:38.We know what Strax is like, so the idea of him holding it was a great

:19:39. > :19:43.idea. Congratulations! A brilliant image. Well done.

:19:44. > :19:50.Yours is for Flint. How do you come up with the idea. I thought Jenny

:19:51. > :19:56.Flint is a Victorian pickpocket. I thaupth if I used a steam punk and

:19:57. > :20:02.technological design it would fit her character. I cannot believe all

:20:03. > :20:06.the research as well. It looks Victorian, technological and you can

:20:07. > :20:11.see it going on to Jenny Flint's arms in the morning. How did you

:20:12. > :20:17.feel when we told you that you had won? I was speechless and then I

:20:18. > :20:25.went crazy. Amber, you have made an a gadget for

:20:26. > :20:29.Madam Vastra. What does it do? It control controls the carriage. Does

:20:30. > :20:35.it really? Yes. Actually Stephen Moffat said himself he loves the

:20:36. > :20:39.fact that you can summon a carriage by taking it out of her hat. What

:20:40. > :20:44.gave you the idea? Well, first I wanted to do a son Iqbal, then I

:20:45. > :20:50.wanted a sonic feather and then I went on to the internet and I

:20:51. > :20:54.thought of a Sonic Hatpin. It is a fantastic idea. How did you feel

:20:55. > :21:00.when you got the phone call to say you had won? I felt really amazed.

:21:01. > :21:08.You should do. And that is a special feather. Where is it from? It is

:21:09. > :21:15.called a dinosaur feather. It is! You have mixed old and news there.

:21:16. > :21:20.That is... It expands into a sword. It is amazing. Your designs are here

:21:21. > :21:24.and you have won your Blue Peter badges for them, not only that but

:21:25. > :21:28.the chance to have your designs made into real sonic devices. There are

:21:29. > :21:32.some characters who here would like to say some things to you. Have a

:21:33. > :21:37.look. Welcome to everyone who took part In

:21:38. > :21:42.the Blue Peter Doctor Who competition. We are looking forward

:21:43. > :21:50.to using the winning devices in the new series of Doctor Who.

:21:51. > :21:57.Such a brilliant competition. You can see the guys have an individual

:21:58. > :22:02.autograph from the characters. Congratulations! They are amazing.

:22:03. > :22:08.You can see the three winning designs and the runners up on our

:22:09. > :22:13.online gallery - bbc.co.uk/bluepeter. There are

:22:14. > :22:17.comments as well. The standards of entries was so high. Thank you to

:22:18. > :22:22.everyone who got involved. Now, if you cannot wait until the New Year

:22:23. > :22:26.to see another episode of Doctor Who, fear not, my friends - there is

:22:27. > :22:31.a Christmas special. And this is Blue Peter - obviously we'll give

:22:32. > :22:33.you a sneak speak. It has aliens, monsters and even a big explosion!

:22:34. > :22:43.Check it out! And now it is time for one last bow,

:22:44. > :22:51.like all your other self-s. The clock is striking. The siege is

:22:52. > :22:54.now begun. The time Lord has entered the trap. Help him change the

:22:55. > :23:10.future. Do it! How exciting is that? That is

:23:11. > :23:14.Christmas Day, BBC One, 7. 30pm. Make sure you are watching. We have

:23:15. > :23:19.been asking what your Christmas traditions are. They have come in by

:23:20. > :23:23.the truck-load. They have. On Christmas Eve we leave a mince pie

:23:24. > :23:26.on the doorstep for Santa, sometimes carrots. That is similar to our

:23:27. > :23:31.family. Me and my cousins all bring our

:23:32. > :23:36.instruments to our grandma and granddads and play a mini-Christmas

:23:37. > :23:40.concert. That is a brilliant idea. We put candles in our garden so

:23:41. > :23:43.Santa knows where to go. Makes sense.

:23:44. > :23:47.Me and my brother get up really early and open presents. We

:23:48. > :23:55.sometimes jump on our mum and dads bed while they are asleep. Get a

:23:56. > :24:02.wooden spoon, bang them together! Don't give them ideas! We all sit

:24:03. > :24:07.around the table and pull the crackers and read out the jokes.

:24:08. > :24:12.Next week... That is right, we'll open our presents together. It will

:24:13. > :24:17.be special. We will remember some of our favourite moments of 2013,

:24:18. > :24:21.including Barney aes Barney's Big Bike Challenge, the pyre jump and

:24:22. > :24:26.the race when Lindsey and I went head-to-head. In keeping with Blue

:24:27. > :24:30.Peter tradition, we'll hear a special performance of Hark the

:24:31. > :24:32.Herald Angles. We are joined by Chester Cathedral Boys Choir,

:24:33. > :24:37.Birkenhead High School Academy Girls Choir and Oldham Boys Choir. Also

:24:38. > :24:41.Liverpool Signing Choir. Members of the Salvation Army brass band and

:24:42. > :24:58.the Norfolk youth band, who I played with earlier in the year.

:24:59. > :25:11.# Hark the herald angles sing # Glory to the newborn King

:25:12. > :25:17.# Peace on earth # And mercy mild

:25:18. > :25:26.# God and sinners reconsigh # Joyful all ye nations rise

:25:27. > :25:40.# Join the triumph of the skies # With the angelic host proclaim

:25:41. > :25:44.# Christ is born in Bethly hem -- Bethlehem

:25:45. > :25:50.# Hark the herald angles sing # Glory to the

:25:51. > :25:57.Before we go, time to wish you a very happy Christmas. Thank you to
