0:00:02 > 0:00:06It's Conor Maynard. Helen and Barney gave me this for Christmas.
0:00:06 > 0:00:09Make sure you stay tuned to find out what it is. Hmm.
0:00:12 > 0:00:14Coming up on today's show...
0:00:14 > 0:00:16It's time to grab a turkey sandwich
0:00:16 > 0:00:20and sit back as we revel in the epic year that was 2012 on Blue Peter.
0:00:20 > 0:00:24..as well as catching up with one of this year's superstar guests -
0:00:24 > 0:00:26the phenomenal Conor Maynard.
0:00:26 > 0:00:28And look out for some familiar faces
0:00:28 > 0:00:31in our special performance of All I Want For Christmas.
0:00:31 > 0:00:33# More than you could ever know... #
0:00:52 > 0:00:54Hello. Hope you are enjoying the festive period.
0:00:54 > 0:00:57I said I was going to super-size Christmas this year.
0:00:57 > 0:00:59- You have done. - I've got 12 trees instead of one.
0:00:59 > 0:01:02Considering the Christmas contacts you do have,
0:01:02 > 0:01:05I didn't get my pony this year for Christmas, what is going on?
0:01:05 > 0:01:07- Give it time, New Year sales! - Very good.
0:01:07 > 0:01:10As if you could buy a pony in the New Year sales. That'd be amazing.
0:01:10 > 0:01:13Anyway, welcome to a very special episode of Blue Peter -
0:01:13 > 0:01:16our last episode of the year. 2013 is only a few days away.
0:01:16 > 0:01:20This year has gone by so fast. Our feet have hardly touched the ground.
0:01:20 > 0:01:23We've been so busy. We've been all over the country.
0:01:23 > 0:01:26We've been on your screens for 52 weeks of the year.
0:01:26 > 0:01:29We hope that you have enjoyed it and we hope that you have been with us.
0:01:29 > 0:01:32There have been highs, lows, tears, laughs, good times,
0:01:32 > 0:01:34mainly good times.
0:01:34 > 0:01:37We've been blown away with how incredible this year has been.
0:01:37 > 0:01:39We would like you now to sit back
0:01:39 > 0:01:41and take a look at some of our favourite highlights.
0:01:41 > 0:01:45My favourite has to be learning to fly a loop-the-loop with the Blades.
0:01:45 > 0:01:46What an experience that was.
0:01:46 > 0:01:49- Am I flying the plane at the moment?- You are.
0:01:49 > 0:01:52- My hands are not on the controls. - I'm doing this all by myself?
0:01:52 > 0:01:55- You are doing this all by yourself. - Oh, my goodness.
0:01:55 > 0:01:57I get goosebumps every time I watch that. I'm so proud of you.
0:01:57 > 0:02:00Good job. We can see a bit more of that later on.
0:02:00 > 0:02:03My highlight has to be all the way back in January
0:02:03 > 0:02:06when just 21 days into the month, I reached the South Pole.
0:02:06 > 0:02:09It was an ambition that I never even dared dream about.
0:02:11 > 0:02:15This time last year, I was knee deep in snow en route to the South Pole.
0:02:15 > 0:02:18It was a challenge I was undertaking for Sport Relief.
0:02:18 > 0:02:21I had to travel over 500 miles across Antarctica
0:02:21 > 0:02:24to get all the way to the South Pole itself.
0:02:26 > 0:02:28'I was using three different modes of transport - kite skiing...'
0:02:28 > 0:02:33If you don't concentrate, you get into a bit of a pickle.
0:02:33 > 0:02:34'..cross-country skiing
0:02:34 > 0:02:38'and, in a world first, a specially adapted bike.'
0:02:39 > 0:02:41This is so slow.
0:02:41 > 0:02:44We are slower than we are when we're cross-country skiing.
0:02:44 > 0:02:48We had to pull heavy sleds containing our food
0:02:48 > 0:02:52and equipment over the coldest, windiest, driest place on Earth.
0:02:52 > 0:02:56You have already developed a blister about the size of a 20p piece.
0:02:56 > 0:03:00If we left this on its own, it would just get worse.
0:03:00 > 0:03:05This is the most unpleasant experience of my life.
0:03:05 > 0:03:08But it was all worth it and when I finally reached my goal,
0:03:08 > 0:03:11it's a moment I will cherish for ever.
0:03:12 > 0:03:16Really proud of what we've achieved as a team.
0:03:16 > 0:03:20I cannot believe that we are at the South Pole, the bottom of the world.
0:03:24 > 0:03:27Whilst I was completing my expedition to the South Pole,
0:03:27 > 0:03:32a journey of an altogether different nature was also coming to its end.
0:03:32 > 0:03:33Naomi from Live And Deadly
0:03:33 > 0:03:37joined two giant pandas at their new home in Edinburgh Zoo.
0:03:37 > 0:03:40These rare animals are on an extremely important assignment -
0:03:40 > 0:03:43to be the first pandas here in the UK to have a baby.
0:03:43 > 0:03:47Pandas by their nature are solitary animals,
0:03:47 > 0:03:50which means they like to spend time by themselves.
0:03:50 > 0:03:52That's why at the zoo,
0:03:52 > 0:03:57female Sweetie and male panda Sunshine have separate enclosures.
0:03:57 > 0:03:59- You're the panda keeper here at the zoo.- I am.
0:03:59 > 0:04:03Why is it that we haven't had pandas born here in the UK?
0:04:03 > 0:04:05The last pandas were at London Zoo
0:04:05 > 0:04:07and unfortunately, they did not breed.
0:04:07 > 0:04:11But now we have a pair so, hopefully, ours will breed.
0:04:11 > 0:04:13But it wasn't just the pandas
0:04:13 > 0:04:16who won our hearts on the show this year.
0:04:16 > 0:04:19We love animals on Blue Peter. We were even lucky enough
0:04:19 > 0:04:23to welcome Pudsey the dog with owner Ashleigh to the studio,
0:04:23 > 0:04:26fresh from having won Britain's Got Talent.
0:04:26 > 0:04:29- I presume it's been the most busy time of your life?- It has!
0:04:29 > 0:04:32We've been really busy. But we've been having a lot of fun as well.
0:04:32 > 0:04:35We are both just loving the experience.
0:04:43 > 0:04:46In the spring, Blue Peter viewer Ella showed us
0:04:46 > 0:04:50what life was like for her on her farm during lambing season.
0:04:50 > 0:04:53It's important that we are here to help out with the birth
0:04:53 > 0:04:55because lots of things can go wrong.
0:04:55 > 0:04:59We don't want to lose either the precious baby or its mother.
0:04:59 > 0:05:01That's it. Clear its nose.
0:05:07 > 0:05:10That's one healthy little lamb.
0:05:12 > 0:05:14This is the miracle of lambing.
0:05:14 > 0:05:18For most of our pets, the future of their breed is assured.
0:05:18 > 0:05:22But not so for all. Naomi went to meet a unique breed of dog.
0:05:24 > 0:05:28Meet the otter hound. Otter hounds have long legs and webbed feet.
0:05:28 > 0:05:29They get their name
0:05:29 > 0:05:33because they were used to hunt otters in the 18th and 19th centuries.
0:05:33 > 0:05:36In those days, otters were not seen as cute, they were seen as pests.
0:05:36 > 0:05:39This practice ended around 50 years ago
0:05:39 > 0:05:42and, since then, otter hounds have lessened in numbers, with experts
0:05:42 > 0:05:47predicting that the breed could be extinct within the next ten years.
0:05:47 > 0:05:50But there is hope for this endangered breed.
0:05:50 > 0:05:52I've come to Hereford to meet a woman
0:05:52 > 0:05:56who is doing everything she can for the otter hound.
0:05:56 > 0:06:00Maria has been breeding otter hound dogs for over 20 years.
0:06:00 > 0:06:03She adores them and even shows them at events like Crufts.
0:06:03 > 0:06:05She currently has seven adult dogs,
0:06:05 > 0:06:08of which four are being used for breeding,
0:06:08 > 0:06:12and I am keen to find out her take on the plight of the otter hound.
0:06:12 > 0:06:15Why do think this breed of dog is so endangered?
0:06:15 > 0:06:18There have never been many otter hounds around anyway.
0:06:18 > 0:06:21They were not available to the general public
0:06:21 > 0:06:25until the late 1970s and the early 1980s.
0:06:25 > 0:06:30Up until that time, they were solely a hound used and bred for hunting.
0:06:30 > 0:06:34I love these dogs, but I'm more desperate to meet the puppies.
0:06:34 > 0:06:35Let's go.
0:06:35 > 0:06:36# Who let the dogs out? #
0:06:36 > 0:06:38For the first six weeks of their lives,
0:06:38 > 0:06:41the otter hound pups suckle on milk from their mum.
0:06:41 > 0:06:44But now they are nine weeks old, it is Maria's job to make sure
0:06:44 > 0:06:48their bellies are full, which is a lot of responsibility.
0:06:48 > 0:06:51- There is a lot of mouths to feed, how much do they eat?- At the moment,
0:06:51 > 0:06:57they are eating about eight kilos a day of an all-in-one puppy diet.
0:06:57 > 0:07:01- They're probably eating their weight in meat?- Getting on for, yes.
0:07:03 > 0:07:06They just get fed once a day?
0:07:06 > 0:07:11No, they would have this sort of sized meal three times a day.
0:07:13 > 0:07:17- And what goes in must come out. - Yes. It's a constant job.
0:07:19 > 0:07:22- There is a lot of poo around in this little pen.- There is.
0:07:22 > 0:07:25I've always fancied having a kennel maid,
0:07:25 > 0:07:27would you like to go and get the shovel?
0:07:27 > 0:07:29Oh. I'd love to.
0:07:32 > 0:07:35All of these gorgeous puppies now have new homes to go to.
0:07:35 > 0:07:39I get the best jobs. No, don't eat it before I scoop it up.
0:07:39 > 0:07:43But it still does not secure the future of this endangered species.
0:07:43 > 0:07:45Because although 19 puppies seems like a lot,
0:07:45 > 0:07:48most won't be used for breeding.
0:07:48 > 0:07:51All Maria can do is carry on with her good work.
0:07:51 > 0:07:56Hopefully, some of the boys and girls in these two litters
0:07:56 > 0:07:59will become parents in the future
0:07:59 > 0:08:02because we are going to lose the breed
0:08:02 > 0:08:04if we have not got more being bred.
0:08:11 > 0:08:15Music is another huge passion for us on Blue Peter.
0:08:15 > 0:08:17And throughout the last 12 months,
0:08:17 > 0:08:21we've welcomed a galaxy of music stars who have performed for you.
0:08:21 > 0:08:23We kicked off the New Year
0:08:23 > 0:08:26by getting CBBC to do the hump with the Rizzle Kicks.
0:08:26 > 0:08:30# Mama do the hump Mama do the hump hump
0:08:30 > 0:08:32# Mama won't you please let me do the hump hump
0:08:32 > 0:08:35# Mama do the hump Mama do the hump hump
0:08:35 > 0:08:37# Mama won't you please let me do the hump hump
0:08:37 > 0:08:40# Mama do the hump Mama do the hump hump
0:08:40 > 0:08:43# Mama won't you please let me do the hump hump... #
0:08:43 > 0:08:48And the big-name guests kept on coming. Which of these can you name?
0:09:41 > 0:09:45Someone who's burst onto the music scene in a big way this year
0:09:45 > 0:09:47is Conor Maynard.
0:09:47 > 0:09:52# Looking for trouble. But it came looking for me... #
0:09:52 > 0:09:53# Turn around... #
0:09:57 > 0:10:01And over 135 million views on YouTube.
0:10:01 > 0:10:04So we sent him a little gift to say well done.
0:10:05 > 0:10:08# You say I think we got a problem... #
0:10:08 > 0:10:09KNOCKING AT DOOR
0:10:11 > 0:10:15- Delivery for Conor Maynard. - Thank you.
0:10:18 > 0:10:22"Dear Conor. Sorry we are not there to give you this gift in person,
0:10:22 > 0:10:26"but after a massive year, we wanted to say Merry Christmas.
0:10:26 > 0:10:29"Hope to see you on Blue Peter in 2013.
0:10:29 > 0:10:31"Lots of love, Helen and Barney."
0:10:31 > 0:10:33That's nice.
0:10:34 > 0:10:37"Sorry, just to say, before you get the present,
0:10:37 > 0:10:40"you have to answer our questions first.
0:10:40 > 0:10:44"2012 has been an amazing year for you, apart from appearing
0:10:44 > 0:10:47"on Blue Peter, what have been your top three highlights?"
0:10:47 > 0:10:49My top three highlights.
0:10:49 > 0:10:52My album going to number one was an incredible highlight.
0:10:52 > 0:10:55Another one would be, for my single Turn Around,
0:10:55 > 0:10:59I got to shoot a video in LA, downtown LA with Ne-Yo.
0:10:59 > 0:11:01My third highlight would be the Olympics.
0:11:01 > 0:11:03I was in the athletics stadium
0:11:03 > 0:11:06when team GB won three golds in one day.
0:11:06 > 0:11:09I was there during Super Saturday. It was absolutely amazing.
0:11:09 > 0:11:13And yes, I jumped up and down. It was an amazing day, definitely.
0:11:13 > 0:11:15I'd say they were my top three highlights.
0:11:15 > 0:11:20Yes! I get to open a present. Here we go. I'm so excited. Oh...
0:11:20 > 0:11:26Another question. "What are you most looking forward to about 2013?"
0:11:26 > 0:11:29My album is released in America in 2013,
0:11:29 > 0:11:33so I am extremely excited about that. Here we go. Last one.
0:11:33 > 0:11:36No, it's not, there's another question.
0:11:36 > 0:11:40Helen and Barney, you amazing people, you(!)
0:11:40 > 0:11:43"What can our audience expect from Conor in 2013?"
0:11:43 > 0:11:47I'm going to be in a whole bunch of shows in 2013,
0:11:47 > 0:11:50a whole bunch of festivals that I actually get to see you guys at
0:11:50 > 0:11:53and get to perform live. I get to meet a whole bunch of you as well.
0:11:53 > 0:11:56Thank you for being the Maniacs, as my fans are called.
0:11:56 > 0:11:57I'm really excited about it.
0:11:58 > 0:12:01What are the odds? Another question.
0:12:01 > 0:12:06"Is there someone you would love to duet with in the New Year?"
0:12:06 > 0:12:08I'm a big fan of Emeli Sande.
0:12:08 > 0:12:12I think she's an incredible writer so if I got to duet with her,
0:12:12 > 0:12:14I think that would be a lot of fun.
0:12:14 > 0:12:19Next one. Got to be the pre... Another question. Great.
0:12:19 > 0:12:22"If you could be an animal, what would you be?"
0:12:22 > 0:12:24Well, my favourite animal is a lion.
0:12:24 > 0:12:28I love lions so much, I wanted to change my name to Leo.
0:12:28 > 0:12:30Luckily, my mum told me not to do that.
0:12:30 > 0:12:34But I still love the name, so maybe one day, I might change it to Leo.
0:12:34 > 0:12:36We'll see.
0:12:37 > 0:12:39Oh! Look at that!
0:12:39 > 0:12:41A lion!
0:12:41 > 0:12:45I don't know if you guys can see that, but there is a lion.
0:12:45 > 0:12:47I'm going to name it Leo.
0:12:47 > 0:12:50Thank you, Helen and Barney, for the lion, for Leo.
0:12:53 > 0:12:57# You can take my heart
0:12:57 > 0:12:58# Like a criminal
0:13:01 > 0:13:04# Won't you make me believe
0:13:04 > 0:13:06# I'm the only one?
0:13:08 > 0:13:10# So grab me by the neck
0:13:10 > 0:13:12# And don't you ever let go
0:13:12 > 0:13:16# Mess me up so good until I'm begging for more
0:13:16 > 0:13:19# You tear me apart
0:13:19 > 0:13:21# Like an animal
0:13:21 > 0:13:24# Like an animal, animal... #
0:13:27 > 0:13:302012 has been a year like no other.
0:13:30 > 0:13:32Even before the summer holidays began,
0:13:32 > 0:13:35you were all given an extra day off school to help the Queen
0:13:35 > 0:13:39celebrate her historic Diamond Jubilee and 60 years as our monarch.
0:13:39 > 0:13:44For Blue Peter, DJ Sara Cox went to Buckingham Palace to find out
0:13:44 > 0:13:47what Gary Barlow had planned for the celebration concert.
0:13:47 > 0:13:50So, then, Gary, when you got the call from the Palace,
0:13:50 > 0:13:55asking you to take on such a huge event as this, how did you feel?
0:13:55 > 0:13:56It's very exciting.
0:13:56 > 0:14:00- Did a bit of you think, "I can't do it."- I think there always is.
0:14:00 > 0:14:04Having seen the Golden Jubilee and how successful that was,
0:14:04 > 0:14:08I wanted to make it look different and feel different
0:14:08 > 0:14:11and feel ten years more improved.
0:14:11 > 0:14:13And how are you going to do that?
0:14:13 > 0:14:17What we've tried to do with the Diamond Jubilee concert is span it
0:14:17 > 0:14:22over 60 years of music. So we have got somebody from every decade.
0:14:22 > 0:14:26Another event that took place that weekend was the Flotilla Of Boats
0:14:26 > 0:14:30which accompanied the Royal barge on a journey up London's River Thames.
0:14:30 > 0:14:32We joined the Sea Cadets
0:14:32 > 0:14:35as they made their preparations to take part.
0:14:35 > 0:14:38What other than the wind affects your speed?
0:14:38 > 0:14:41- Do the ties have an effect?- They can do because of the sandbanks.
0:14:41 > 0:14:44There are a lot on the south coast.
0:14:45 > 0:14:47- So you could actually run aground? - You could, yes.
0:14:47 > 0:14:49You have to be careful.
0:14:49 > 0:14:52I'm sure this crew of cadets would not let that happen.
0:14:52 > 0:14:55In fact, right now I'm counting on their experience
0:14:55 > 0:14:58because my first job as Sea Cadet Skelton is to climb
0:14:58 > 0:15:02the 24 metre mast right to the top to let the sails down.
0:15:06 > 0:15:08A bit of a head rush there.
0:15:08 > 0:15:11If the Royalist is going to reach London in four days,
0:15:11 > 0:15:14all 11 sails need to be used to their best advantage.
0:15:16 > 0:15:20With the sails released, it's straight back down the mast.
0:15:20 > 0:15:23Hard on the heels of the Jubilee came a totally unforgettable
0:15:23 > 0:15:28summer of sport starting with the Euro 2012 football championships.
0:15:28 > 0:15:31Excuse me. Can I help you?
0:15:31 > 0:15:34- Um, yeah, two teas would be great.- Tea?
0:15:35 > 0:15:40So, Gary... I mean Mr Lineker... Sorry... I love your crisps!
0:15:40 > 0:15:43We travelled to Ukraine and Poland
0:15:43 > 0:15:46to discover more about the host countries.
0:15:46 > 0:15:50And Barney certainly got to bust some moves in the process.
0:15:50 > 0:15:52MUSIC PLAYS
0:16:12 > 0:16:15Well, that seemed to go OK.
0:16:15 > 0:16:17OK, what's this? What am I doing?
0:16:17 > 0:16:19What me? My turn? OK? Just spin.
0:16:19 > 0:16:22Spin for all you're worth, Barney boy!
0:16:23 > 0:16:25Er...should I be doing this?
0:16:25 > 0:16:27Er...OK, then.
0:16:29 > 0:16:33Oh, please! Make them stop! Stop!
0:16:33 > 0:16:35Oh, thank goodness for that!
0:16:38 > 0:16:40On a more serious note,
0:16:40 > 0:16:45I learned about a disaster which has had a lasting impact on Ukraine.
0:16:45 > 0:16:4926 years ago, an explosion tore through a nuclear power plant
0:16:49 > 0:16:51in a place called Chernobyl.
0:16:51 > 0:16:53The disaster had a devastating impact
0:16:53 > 0:16:55on the people who lived nearby.
0:16:57 > 0:17:02There is so much debate around how many people were affected.
0:17:02 > 0:17:04Can you say at all how many people
0:17:04 > 0:17:07suffered as a result of the explosion?
0:17:07 > 0:17:09Very difficult to tell.
0:17:09 > 0:17:14According to official data I read, 237 firefighters who took part
0:17:14 > 0:17:18in extinguishing the fire, 38 of them died.
0:17:18 > 0:17:21In a weird way, I was keen to come here
0:17:21 > 0:17:24because I was fascinated by what I would see.
0:17:24 > 0:17:27People have discussed and argued about Chernobyl for years
0:17:27 > 0:17:29and they will do for decades to come.
0:17:31 > 0:17:36But now that I'm here, I can see the scene of a tragedy that caused
0:17:36 > 0:17:43so much suffering around the world, I just feel really uncomfortable.
0:17:45 > 0:17:49I feel like I'm looking at a car crash and I shouldn't be.
0:17:54 > 0:17:56No-one would dispute
0:17:56 > 0:17:59that the key sporting event of the summer was the Olympics.
0:17:59 > 0:18:01But in the run-up to it,
0:18:01 > 0:18:03every Saturday we followed the Olympic torch as it
0:18:03 > 0:18:08criss-crossed the country in our special Big Olympic Tour series.
0:18:08 > 0:18:11Tens of thousands of you came to see us and I was even allowed to
0:18:11 > 0:18:14carry the torch as it went through Wolverhampton.
0:18:16 > 0:18:19This is unbelievable, isn't it? This is just...
0:18:22 > 0:18:25Each torchbearer runs a fifth of a mile before passing
0:18:25 > 0:18:29the Olympic flame on as it continues its epic journey across the UK.
0:18:31 > 0:18:33Oh, that was such an honour,
0:18:33 > 0:18:36and one of those things I will be talking about
0:18:36 > 0:18:37for the rest of my life.
0:18:39 > 0:18:40The British Olympic team
0:18:40 > 0:18:43achieved their best modern performance on the medal table ever.
0:18:43 > 0:18:45What an achievement!
0:18:45 > 0:18:49And we were lucky enough to welcome Olympic gold medallist Jade Jones
0:18:49 > 0:18:52and Paralympic gold medallist Sarah Storey to the studio.
0:18:52 > 0:18:56- How do you feel?- It feels amazing. It is just overwhelming, really -
0:18:56 > 0:18:59- all the support, it's just great. - It is incredible to see what you do.
0:18:59 > 0:19:03And not only that, it's incredible to be here with a gold medal.
0:19:03 > 0:19:06Can we see it? Not many know this, but something magic happens
0:19:06 > 0:19:09when you win a gold, it attaches itself to your cheek.
0:19:09 > 0:19:11As you lift it, you can't help but go like that.
0:19:11 > 0:19:14Can you remember what each of these is for?
0:19:14 > 0:19:18Absolutely. The medals are engraved with road cycling track cycling.
0:19:18 > 0:19:20And when I won the second one in each,
0:19:20 > 0:19:21I put a safety pin on the back.
0:19:21 > 0:19:24So that I'd know. So this one was won for the road race
0:19:24 > 0:19:28- on my final day of competition. - Just look at Sarah's nails.
0:19:28 > 0:19:30- Four gold medals. - And a flag bearer.- Brilliant.
0:19:32 > 0:19:36After a history making summer, we did some making of our own.
0:19:36 > 0:19:40Including personalised pencil cases for Amanda from Cover Drive.
0:19:40 > 0:19:44I think it's only right that Amanda comes into help me out with this
0:19:44 > 0:19:46because it is your present after all.
0:19:46 > 0:19:50- So there's your letter.- OK. - It's the final A in your name.
0:19:50 > 0:19:53- Some glue.- Some glue. Do you want me to put it on?- Yes, you do that.
0:19:53 > 0:19:57Fantastic, and just chuck it on there, like that.
0:19:57 > 0:20:00There you have it, the finished pencil case. It's as easy as that.
0:20:00 > 0:20:03Plus, edible eyeballs to spook your friends.
0:20:03 > 0:20:08And then because these are horrible, gruesome, diseased eyes,
0:20:08 > 0:20:12we're going to paint a little bit of red around the outside of the iris.
0:20:12 > 0:20:14Nice, and you can use that same red
0:20:14 > 0:20:17to do the veins around the outside of the eye as well.
0:20:17 > 0:20:20If you look, you can see that there is a technique to it
0:20:20 > 0:20:22because you work outside-in.
0:20:22 > 0:20:27And Halloween botkins - a cross between a bottle and pumpkin!
0:20:27 > 0:20:31You should able to find most of the bits that you need around the house.
0:20:31 > 0:20:34Can you put the lights down, please? And...
0:20:36 > 0:20:40..you should be able to see our ghost glowing in the dark.
0:20:41 > 0:20:45The night of frights itself saw us hotfoot it to a theme park
0:20:45 > 0:20:48where Barney and I tried to present the show from a rollercoaster.
0:20:48 > 0:20:50You could do a fun-run.
0:20:50 > 0:20:52You could do a sponsored silence.
0:20:52 > 0:20:54You could even do a car boot sale.
0:20:54 > 0:20:56Oh, my goodness.
0:20:56 > 0:20:59- SHE SHOUTS INDISTINCTLY - Whoa-ho!
0:20:59 > 0:21:02I think Barney is going to be sick.
0:21:02 > 0:21:03I've got that watery thing.
0:21:05 > 0:21:07But you would have thought
0:21:07 > 0:21:10that Barney would have been used to high-octane rides.
0:21:10 > 0:21:11Especially after he fulfilled
0:21:11 > 0:21:14his life's ambition to loop-the-loop on a plane.
0:21:14 > 0:21:17- Am I flying the plane at the moment? - You're flying a plane.
0:21:17 > 0:21:20- My hands are not on the control. - I am doing this all by myself?
0:21:20 > 0:21:22- All by yourself. - Oh, my goodness.
0:21:22 > 0:21:26This is Bernie's first go at a loop.
0:21:26 > 0:21:29OK, start easing back on the stick now.
0:21:29 > 0:21:32That's beautiful, bit more, little bit more.
0:21:32 > 0:21:36Little bit more, little bit more. That's brilliant, keep it like that.
0:21:36 > 0:21:40Keep it like that, keep it coming. That's lovely, Barney.
0:21:40 > 0:21:46- Wow!- Keep it coming, keep it coming. That's it.
0:21:46 > 0:21:51Keep it coming a little bit. Relax it down.
0:21:51 > 0:21:54That is a loop, Barney.
0:21:54 > 0:21:56That was absolutely incredible.
0:21:57 > 0:22:01In many ways for Barney, his challenge was an emotional tribute
0:22:01 > 0:22:03to his aircraft engineer grandfather.
0:22:03 > 0:22:05He worked for British Aerospace,
0:22:05 > 0:22:07so I sat with him on so many planes,
0:22:07 > 0:22:10it was always his ambition to go up in a plane.
0:22:10 > 0:22:12I wish he could have seen what I've just done.
0:22:12 > 0:22:15Hopefully, he's looking down from above
0:22:15 > 0:22:17and he's just seen what you've done.
0:22:19 > 0:22:22For this year's appeal we decided to Go Pyjamas!

0:22:39 > 0:22:42Children In Need helps fund this power chair football team.
0:22:42 > 0:22:44It's a growing sport in the UK
0:22:44 > 0:22:47where two teams of four people control a powerful wheelchair
0:22:47 > 0:22:49that has a guard,
0:22:49 > 0:22:51big wheels and a large motor
0:22:51 > 0:22:55to allow players to move across the pitch at speed.

0:24:04 > 0:24:06It is true that you don't have to do any ironing

0:24:09 > 0:24:12- "I'm wearing pyjamas." - It works for everybody.
0:24:12 > 0:24:14But it wasn't just the appeal, we also had fun recently
