0:00:03 > 0:00:05I started on Blue Peter nearly three months ago

0:00:05 > 0:00:07and it has been absolutely incredible.

0:00:07 > 0:00:10Today we're going behind the scenes to find out more about me,

0:00:10 > 0:00:13like the fact that when I was a kid there's nothing I loved more

0:00:13 > 0:00:15than to get all my mates round and have a big wrestling match

0:00:15 > 0:00:18in my front garden, which my mum loved.

0:00:18 > 0:00:20She didn't love, she hated it. Or the fact that, once upon a time,

0:00:20 > 0:00:23I celebrated a goal that Arsenal scored by jumping off a chair

0:00:23 > 0:00:27and then I broke my arm. Or the fact that, a few years ago,

0:00:27 > 0:00:30people used to often confuse me as Aston from JLS.

0:00:30 > 0:00:33Director's chair. It doesn't happen much any more.

0:00:33 > 0:00:35Aston?

0:00:39 > 0:00:44This show is a Radzi rollercoaster! First up, sport.

0:00:44 > 0:00:45You'll get to find out what happened

0:00:45 > 0:00:48when I met young sports stars from up and down the country,

0:00:48 > 0:00:50who've all been nominated to be

0:00:50 > 0:00:52Young Sports Personality of Year.

0:00:52 > 0:00:55You'll see me hurtle down a skeleton bobsleigh track

0:00:55 > 0:00:57at up to 70 miles an hour.

0:01:03 > 0:01:04You'll also get to meet my family.

0:01:04 > 0:01:07They are a mix of Zimbabwe and Scotland and, to me,

0:01:07 > 0:01:10they're ace. And all that's coming up on today's show.

0:01:27 > 0:01:29Today is a bit different because I'm going to give you

0:01:29 > 0:01:31a guided backstage tour of the Blue Peter studio.

0:01:31 > 0:01:34This is where the bosses sit, so I'm going to get out of here.

0:01:34 > 0:01:38About 50 people work behind the scenes making Blue Peter happen.

0:01:38 > 0:01:41For example, the lady in the check shirt there is the floor manager.

0:01:41 > 0:01:44She helps keep me, Lindsey and Barney in line.

0:01:44 > 0:01:46You've got a camera team, in charge of the cameras.

0:01:46 > 0:01:48Behind that is Emma, she's in charge of all the design.

0:01:48 > 0:01:51The awesome design on the set you see, that's all down to her.

0:01:51 > 0:01:54She's really, really cool. But what actually happens on the show day?

0:01:54 > 0:01:57Well, it's time to find out.

0:01:58 > 0:02:00Wakey-wakey!

0:02:01 > 0:02:04Rise and shine!

0:02:04 > 0:02:07Morning. Welcome to Blue Peter. Time for make-up.

0:02:07 > 0:02:11'Oops! It's often an early start for everyone when you're filming

0:02:11 > 0:02:15'or on a studio day, so a power nap is sometimes necessary.'

0:02:15 > 0:02:17Just two more minutes? No. OK.

0:02:17 > 0:02:21'But we've got to dust off our sleepy eyes and get to read through,

0:02:21 > 0:02:23'where we practise the day's script.'

0:02:25 > 0:02:27It's all coming up on today's Blue Peter.

0:02:27 > 0:02:29'And watch the films.'

0:02:29 > 0:02:31'A recurring injury has come back to haunt me.'

0:02:33 > 0:02:35'Time for a quick change and then make-up.'

0:02:35 > 0:02:37Ta-dah!

0:02:44 > 0:02:48We come in and we have make-up done very first thing.

0:02:48 > 0:02:49Lindsey's takes absolutely ages,

0:02:49 > 0:02:52Barney's takes ages and mine takes about 30 seconds.

0:02:54 > 0:02:56See? Told you.

0:02:57 > 0:02:59All done. Thanks, Claire.

0:02:59 > 0:03:02Well, now that I'm made up, I'm ready to go live.

0:03:02 > 0:03:05I'm also ready for any challenges that Blue Peter can throw at me.

0:03:05 > 0:03:07I used to do a sport called skeleton bobsleigh.

0:03:07 > 0:03:10It's fast, it's furious and it's pretty frightening.

0:03:10 > 0:03:13And the Blue Peter bosses have challenged me to give it another go.

0:03:13 > 0:03:17Oh, my goodness, my heart is absolutely pounding.

0:03:17 > 0:03:20Oh!

0:03:21 > 0:03:23And it's this that's got my blood pumping.

0:03:23 > 0:03:26Skeleton bobsleigh,

0:03:26 > 0:03:28a sport where competitors hurdle headfirst

0:03:28 > 0:03:32down a twisty course of ice at speeds of up to 90mph,

0:03:32 > 0:03:36with their chin just a few centimetres from the track.

0:03:36 > 0:03:38It might sound scary, well, actually, it is,

0:03:38 > 0:03:40but there's no bigger rush.

0:03:42 > 0:03:47How do I know that? That's because, once upon a time, that was me.

0:03:47 > 0:03:50I used to train for skeleton bobsleigh when I was at university

0:03:50 > 0:03:53and, ultimately, I dreamt of going to the Winter Olympic Games.

0:03:53 > 0:03:56And I've never lost my love of that phenomenal sport.

0:03:56 > 0:03:59As a student, I trained here in Bath on the push-start track,

0:03:59 > 0:04:01the only one of its kind in the country.

0:04:01 > 0:04:03I was pretty good at skeleton bobsleigh,

0:04:03 > 0:04:05but there's only so much you can learn on concrete.

0:04:05 > 0:04:09To slide on ice, you need to head for the mountains.

0:04:09 > 0:04:12Just outside of the Austrian city of Innsbruck

0:04:12 > 0:04:14is the Eagles Olympic Sliding Centre,

0:04:14 > 0:04:18almost a mile of high-speed ice track.

0:04:19 > 0:04:23Three years ago it was my dream to come here with the GB team.

0:04:23 > 0:04:24That didn't happen for me.

0:04:24 > 0:04:28But today I'm going to get the chance to slide that very track.

0:04:30 > 0:04:33I'm linking up with Team GB's Talent Squad

0:04:33 > 0:04:35who are training for the start of the skeleton season.

0:04:35 > 0:04:37But before they'd even consider allowing me

0:04:37 > 0:04:39to make a full run of the track,

0:04:39 > 0:04:42I had to prove that I still remembered the basic sliding skills.

0:04:42 > 0:04:45So they sent me off to make a short, slow run

0:04:45 > 0:04:47from near the bottom of the track,

0:04:47 > 0:04:49steering, tackling corners

0:04:49 > 0:04:52and trying to show that I wasn't as rusty as I felt.

0:04:58 > 0:05:02Having done that, the man overseeing my run from the top of the track

0:05:02 > 0:05:06and helping keep me safe is British skeleton ice coach Mark Wood.

0:05:08 > 0:05:11Mark's taking me on a walk of the track

0:05:11 > 0:05:13so that I'm familiar with its every bend and bump.

0:05:15 > 0:05:18You'll feel these little waves, nothing to worry about.

0:05:19 > 0:05:21You're going to feel it want to go.

0:05:21 > 0:05:23That's OK, don't worry about it, it's fine.

0:05:25 > 0:05:26Making you aware what could possibly go wrong,

0:05:26 > 0:05:29and what could possibly go right as well. I appreciate that.

0:05:29 > 0:05:32This is a big, massive left-hander, yeah?

0:05:35 > 0:05:37So, as you go into it, it's just like punching.

0:05:37 > 0:05:40We're not going to punch, we're going to punch with our shoulder,

0:05:40 > 0:05:41we're going to punch into the sled.

0:05:41 > 0:05:45'One of Mark's coaching techniques is to encourage sliders

0:05:45 > 0:05:47'to visualise the course in their minds,

0:05:47 > 0:05:50'helping commit every twist and turn to memory.'

0:05:51 > 0:05:53Big corner two.

0:05:53 > 0:05:57Down almost immediately into three.

0:05:57 > 0:05:59Coming into four.

0:06:00 > 0:06:02Small corner five.

0:06:02 > 0:06:04Yeah. Six is just there.

0:06:04 > 0:06:10Feel the first pressure, shoulder down. Release as it comes off.

0:06:10 > 0:06:13Squeeze this pressure and then just let it come out.

0:06:13 > 0:06:16By this point I'll be going at 30 or 40 kilometres an hour.

0:06:16 > 0:06:20I'm going to have a lot of speed. There's a lot to think about.

0:06:20 > 0:06:23'Then as we reach corner nine of the track,

0:06:23 > 0:06:26'Mark points out THE danger area of the course.'

0:06:26 > 0:06:31The key to get through and down the track is right here.

0:06:31 > 0:06:35'If I'm going to run into trouble, it's going to be at corner nine.'

0:06:35 > 0:06:37If you do get spilled off the sled,

0:06:37 > 0:06:40you've got to try and keep a hold of the sled.

0:06:40 > 0:06:44If you lose the sled, push it away from you and keep tight in.

0:06:44 > 0:06:47The reason we're pushing the sled away from us

0:06:47 > 0:06:49is so that it's accelerating and we're slowing down.

0:06:49 > 0:06:52'Skeleton sleds hurtle down the track at incredible speed,

0:06:52 > 0:06:56'steered only by the shoulder movements of people riding them

0:06:56 > 0:06:58'and with no brakes.

0:06:58 > 0:07:02'So when things do go wrong, they go very wrong.'

0:07:03 > 0:07:06Oh, my goodness! That hurt.

0:07:07 > 0:07:11'Thankfully, this Olympic slider wasn't badly injured.

0:07:13 > 0:07:15'But my safety on the track

0:07:15 > 0:07:20'will depend on me remembering exactly what Mark has taught me.'

0:07:20 > 0:07:24OK? If you don't get anything else on this track apart from this,

0:07:26 > 0:07:30that's all I'm really worried about, is this part. OK. All right?

0:07:30 > 0:07:31He's going to be nervous.

0:07:31 > 0:07:33He hasn't been on a sled for quite a while, right?

0:07:33 > 0:07:36It's all going to be brand-new to him again.

0:07:36 > 0:07:40You've got to imagine you're two inches off the ice,

0:07:40 > 0:07:44your face is really, really close and you're going to be doing about 60mph.

0:07:44 > 0:07:48And we can't guarantee anything. Once he's gone, he's on his own.

0:07:48 > 0:07:51If anything goes wrong, he's got to get out of it himself.

0:07:51 > 0:07:53Not many people choose to take up this sport.

0:07:53 > 0:07:57It's fast, it's furious and dangerous.

0:07:57 > 0:08:00And that's exactly why it first appealed to me.

0:08:00 > 0:08:03But, at this moment in time, I'm not so sure.

0:08:05 > 0:08:08There's a huge part of me that's actually scared.

0:08:08 > 0:08:11I haven't done this for a very, very long time

0:08:11 > 0:08:15and just crossing that finish line is going to be an exhilaration

0:08:15 > 0:08:17that's going to be off the charts.

0:08:17 > 0:08:20But, to be honest with you, number one is be safe.

0:08:20 > 0:08:22But I can't think about that too much,

0:08:22 > 0:08:25because that actually really does make me scared.

0:08:26 > 0:08:28Now it's my turn.

0:08:28 > 0:08:31I am about to go the same speed as a car on the motorway,

0:08:31 > 0:08:35except I'm going face-first down the ice.

0:08:40 > 0:08:44After just a couple of hundred metres, I'm really picking up pace.

0:08:49 > 0:08:53Before I know it, I'm hurtling round the longest bend in the course.

0:08:55 > 0:08:57And, once I'm clear of that,

0:08:57 > 0:09:00I'm approaching THE danger corner ` corner nine.

0:09:06 > 0:09:09And I'm through, on the sled and in one piece.

0:09:12 > 0:09:16Now I'm on the home straight and I'm absolutely loving it.

0:09:18 > 0:09:20Oh, my goodness.

0:09:20 > 0:09:22Yes! Yes!

0:09:27 > 0:09:30On the top of that run, I was thinking to myself,

0:09:30 > 0:09:31"Am I going to do this?"

0:09:31 > 0:09:34"Come on, Radzi! Come on, Radzi! Let's do it, let's do it!"

0:09:38 > 0:09:41And I am so pleased I just did that.

0:09:42 > 0:09:45Oh, my goodness, my heart is absolutely pounding.

0:09:49 > 0:09:53I actually loved that. Oh, that was so good.

0:09:54 > 0:09:56HE SIGHS DEEPLY

0:10:00 > 0:10:02That was absolutely off the charts.

0:10:02 > 0:10:05Thank you so much to everyone at GB Skeleton.

0:10:05 > 0:10:08Without them, none of it would have been possible.

0:10:08 > 0:10:10Particularly the coach, Mark Wood, he's a legend and, without him,

0:10:10 > 0:10:13I don't think I'd have had the courage to go down there.

0:10:13 > 0:10:15You may notice we're in the Blue Peter office.

0:10:15 > 0:10:18One of the best things about being a Blue Peter presenter

0:10:18 > 0:10:19is finding out about you at home.

0:10:19 > 0:10:22We do that through lovely photos, stories and letters you send us.

0:10:28 > 0:10:31And I absolutely love finding Radzi post.

0:10:31 > 0:10:33Let's see what it is.

0:10:33 > 0:10:34Oh, look at that.

0:10:36 > 0:10:38They've made me my very own badge.

0:10:38 > 0:10:42I'll tell you what, I'm going to wear that. Thank you.

0:10:43 > 0:10:44Do you know what,

0:10:44 > 0:10:46one of the very best things about being a Blue Peter presenter

0:10:46 > 0:10:48is having post sent in from you at home.

0:10:48 > 0:10:51I love it so much, so thank you and please keep it coming in.

0:10:51 > 0:10:53If you want to find out how you can contact the show

0:10:53 > 0:10:55or, more importantly,

0:10:55 > 0:10:58how you can get your hands on your very own Blue Peter badge,

0:10:58 > 0:11:00then just jump on to our website:

0:11:05 > 0:11:07I think I've said this before, but I'm going to say it again.

0:11:07 > 0:11:10I love sport. Actually, I know you at home do as well.

0:11:10 > 0:11:15Over 5,000 of you applied for the brand-new sport badge.

0:11:15 > 0:11:18You can imagine, therefore, how honoured I was when I was asked

0:11:18 > 0:11:21to be on the panel for Young Sports Personality of the Year.

0:11:32 > 0:11:34It has been another huge year for sport

0:11:34 > 0:11:37and the nominations for the Young Sports Personality of the Year

0:11:37 > 0:11:39have been flooding in.

0:11:39 > 0:11:41I've been lucky enough to be part of a panel

0:11:41 > 0:11:43who are going to determine the final three contenders.

0:11:43 > 0:11:47Then there will be a secret ballot which will determine the winner,

0:11:47 > 0:11:50who won't be announced until the Sports Personality of the Year

0:11:50 > 0:11:52ceremony taking place live in Leeds.

0:11:52 > 0:11:54We've got a tough job on our hands.

0:11:54 > 0:11:55Let's get started.

0:11:58 > 0:11:59I'm looking for

0:11:59 > 0:12:04somebody who goes over and beyond being an amazing sportsperson.

0:12:04 > 0:12:06We got 50 contenders to choose from.

0:12:06 > 0:12:08That will go down to 10, then 3

0:12:08 > 0:12:09and then our eventual winner.

0:12:09 > 0:12:13If you look at the headlines, world, Europe, medal.

0:12:13 > 0:12:15That's, for me, the bottom line.

0:12:15 > 0:12:18I was honoured to be part of the panel. I was privileged, you know?

0:12:18 > 0:12:21But it's tough to get it down to just the one person you want to win.

0:12:21 > 0:12:25Jess, definitely, 100%.

0:12:25 > 0:12:26I think there's lots of different criteria

0:12:26 > 0:12:29of what makes someone a great young sports person.

0:12:29 > 0:12:31All the people we're looking at

0:12:31 > 0:12:34have won all sorts of national and international competitions.

0:12:34 > 0:12:37For this year I think it's been a very, very strong year.

0:12:37 > 0:12:40To go down to 10 contenders is very difficult, never mind three.

0:12:40 > 0:12:41We're down to our three, then.

0:12:41 > 0:12:43So we have

0:12:43 > 0:12:48an athlete, a shooter and a golfer.

0:12:48 > 0:12:51It's a real honour to be part of this year's panel, to be honest.

0:12:51 > 0:12:53Hopefully we'll all agree on a worthy winner.

0:12:53 > 0:12:55So, that's it.

0:12:55 > 0:12:57The votes have been cast

0:12:57 > 0:13:02and are sealed inside the envelope of destiny. I am so excited!

0:13:02 > 0:13:04The winner will be announced live

0:13:04 > 0:13:06on the Sports Personality of the Year ceremony.

0:13:06 > 0:13:09But we can't wait until then.

0:13:10 > 0:13:14We're here. The very first Sports Personality of the Year

0:13:14 > 0:13:18took place way back in 1954, but that was in London.

0:13:18 > 0:13:20This year's star-studded event is here in Leeds

0:13:20 > 0:13:23and the capacity audience is over 12,000 people.

0:13:23 > 0:13:26It really is set to be some celebration.

0:13:30 > 0:13:32The atmosphere is really beginning to hot up.

0:13:32 > 0:13:35Sadly, I'm not lucky enough to get to walk down the red carpet myself.

0:13:35 > 0:13:39But I am going to get to meet those that are.

0:13:39 > 0:13:42It's been another top, top year for British sport,

0:13:42 > 0:13:45so I'm really happy just to be one of the nominees.

0:13:45 > 0:13:46To be here, and to enjoy that

0:13:46 > 0:13:50and experience all of these wonderful achievements, very proud.

0:13:50 > 0:13:52It's always fun celebrating British sport,

0:13:52 > 0:13:54so I'm sure it's going to be amazing.

0:13:54 > 0:13:56I'm so excited. It's a dream come true.

0:13:56 > 0:14:00As a kid, I watched it on TV and was, like, I'll be in that room one year.

0:14:00 > 0:14:02How important is sport for children?

0:14:02 > 0:14:04I think it's very important.

0:14:04 > 0:14:07First of all, being involved in sport teaches people discipline.

0:14:07 > 0:14:09For this year, Young Sports Personality of the Year,

0:14:09 > 0:14:11there are three nominated girls.

0:14:11 > 0:14:13What do you think that means for them?

0:14:13 > 0:14:15I'm sure it means the absolute world.

0:14:15 > 0:14:17I think it's nice to see more women involved.

0:14:17 > 0:14:20Are you nervous? Maybe a little bit.

0:14:20 > 0:14:21But I'm enjoying the whole experience.

0:14:21 > 0:14:24It's a once-in-a-lifetime thing, so I'm just making the most of it.

0:14:24 > 0:14:27To win it is really special, but to be nominated is saying,

0:14:27 > 0:14:29what you've achieved this year is amazing.

0:14:29 > 0:14:30It's just absolutely amazing.

0:14:30 > 0:14:33I didn't even know I was going to be nominated in the 10.

0:14:33 > 0:14:35So to have made the three is just surreal.

0:14:35 > 0:14:36So I'm just happy to be here.

0:14:38 > 0:14:39I'm not just here to watch.

0:14:39 > 0:14:43I've got an important job to do as a seat filler.

0:14:43 > 0:14:46That means when people leave their seats to collect awards,

0:14:46 > 0:14:47I'll fill them in,

0:14:47 > 0:14:49so that the arena audience

0:14:49 > 0:14:51always looks full to the viewers at home.

0:14:51 > 0:14:54But I'm not allowed to take the Blue Peter team with me. So...

0:14:54 > 0:14:55We have a button-cam...

0:14:56 > 0:14:58..and we have a hand-held cam.

0:15:00 > 0:15:04And who are we going to meet? I'm very excited to find out.

0:15:04 > 0:15:08The arena is full and I'm nervously waiting to fill my first seat.

0:15:08 > 0:15:09Here we go.

0:15:11 > 0:15:14Let's start with the rugby union and the Six Nations.

0:15:14 > 0:15:16Oh, there I am!

0:15:17 > 0:15:18And again!

0:15:31 > 0:15:34Could you just wave to Blue Peter?

0:15:34 > 0:15:35I'm enjoying my retirement.

0:15:35 > 0:15:37'Oh, look, it's me!' Thanks very much.

0:15:37 > 0:15:41So, I'm backstage waiting for the announcement

0:15:41 > 0:15:44of Young Sports Personality of the Year 2013.

0:15:44 > 0:15:47We know the top three, but the question is,

0:15:47 > 0:15:49which of those outstanding sportswomen

0:15:49 > 0:15:51will be crowned the winner?

0:15:51 > 0:15:55The 2013 Young Sports Personality is Amber Hill.

0:15:55 > 0:15:57APPLAUSE

0:16:00 > 0:16:03I really can't believe I've won this award

0:16:03 > 0:16:06out of so many amazing athletes that were nominated for it.

0:16:06 > 0:16:08Amber Hill, how are you feeling?

0:16:08 > 0:16:09Absolutely amazing.

0:16:09 > 0:16:12I never would have thought I'd get this award.

0:16:12 > 0:16:15It's just incredible, really. I can't contain my excitement.

0:16:15 > 0:16:18What went through your head when they said your name?

0:16:18 > 0:16:22Everything, I was just so excited. My mum was like, "Well done!"

0:16:23 > 0:16:28Going up was a bit scary, but I just loved the whole experience.

0:16:28 > 0:16:29It was amazing.

0:16:29 > 0:16:31Thank you so much and congratulations

0:16:31 > 0:16:35to all of the other athletes that were nominated for this award.

0:16:48 > 0:16:50We've got a live show to do.

0:16:53 > 0:16:55So, in the studio it's always quite frenetic here.

0:16:55 > 0:16:57The cameramen are sorting out their shots.

0:16:57 > 0:16:59The sound men, they're sorting out our sound.

0:16:59 > 0:17:02You can see we have microphone packs.

0:17:04 > 0:17:07OK, guys. Listen up, please.

0:17:07 > 0:17:09This is a secret. You shouldn't know this.

0:17:09 > 0:17:12We all have inner earpieces to hear our bosses speak to us.

0:17:12 > 0:17:14So when things go wrong, or things go right,

0:17:14 > 0:17:16they speak to us through one of these.

0:17:16 > 0:17:18If you ever see a presenter do this when speaking

0:17:18 > 0:17:20it's probably because someone's speaking to them

0:17:20 > 0:17:22and it's thrown their train of thought.

0:17:24 > 0:17:26You can see Barney.

0:17:26 > 0:17:28When he starts rubbing his hands and walking up and down,

0:17:28 > 0:17:30that means he's going through his script.

0:17:30 > 0:17:33'We're nearly ready to go live.

0:17:33 > 0:17:35'Now it's time to head off to see another important person

0:17:35 > 0:17:37'who works behind the scenes.'

0:17:37 > 0:17:39This is dubbing mixer Mike.

0:17:39 > 0:17:41Mike has the coolest sound desk in the world. Hit it, Mike.

0:17:41 > 0:17:43Certainly, look at that.

0:17:43 > 0:17:47Look at that! I absolutely love that.

0:17:47 > 0:17:49As well as making cool things light up and move,

0:17:49 > 0:17:51the dubbing mixer also listens into the studio

0:17:51 > 0:17:54to make sure the sound isn't too loud or too quiet.

0:17:54 > 0:17:56When we're on the road and we film one of our stories

0:17:56 > 0:17:59and you hear a voice like a narrator,

0:17:59 > 0:18:01that's what we do right here. Cue Radzi!

0:18:01 > 0:18:03While I crack on here, I think it's time

0:18:03 > 0:18:05to find out a little bit more about me.

0:18:05 > 0:18:08My family are an enormous part of my life.

0:18:08 > 0:18:11They are brilliant and they have always been there for me.

0:18:11 > 0:18:12Let's go meet them.

0:18:13 > 0:18:17Hi, Radzi how are you? Yeah, good, Mum.

0:18:17 > 0:18:21'This is my mum. She's from Dundee in Scotland.

0:18:21 > 0:18:24'And, do you know what? She never tells me off.

0:18:24 > 0:18:26'She only has to give me one of her looks

0:18:26 > 0:18:27'and I know I'm in trouble.

0:18:27 > 0:18:29VIOLINS SCREECH

0:18:29 > 0:18:32'This is my sister and she's the trendy one in our family.

0:18:32 > 0:18:34'She studies fashion in London

0:18:34 > 0:18:36'and she's the one who knows how to tame my big hair.

0:18:41 > 0:18:44'Time for the family photos.

0:18:44 > 0:18:47'Cute or embarrassing? I'll leave that one up to you.

0:18:51 > 0:18:53'Enough now!'

0:18:54 > 0:18:58That is my dad on my very first sports day at school.

0:18:58 > 0:19:00He came second. He's pretty cool.

0:19:00 > 0:19:02'My dad was born in a country called Zimbabwe.

0:19:02 > 0:19:05'He was the first person in his family to leave the country

0:19:05 > 0:19:08'and he came to university in England to study.

0:19:08 > 0:19:10'He gave me my love of sport,

0:19:10 > 0:19:13'especially his favourites, tennis and athletics.'

0:19:13 > 0:19:16My mum and dad don't actually live together any more

0:19:16 > 0:19:19but he doesn't live far away, so I still see him pretty regularly.

0:19:19 > 0:19:23Another big part of me is where I'm from, and that's Wolves,

0:19:23 > 0:19:26or, if you're going to be proper, Wolverhampton.

0:19:26 > 0:19:29I have some brilliant memories of this place.

0:19:29 > 0:19:32It's my local tennis club, it's the place I had my first job

0:19:32 > 0:19:34and then I went on to become a tennis coach.

0:19:40 > 0:19:42First ball in eight years.

0:19:46 > 0:19:48Still got it!

0:20:10 > 0:20:12when I was only 17.

0:20:12 > 0:20:15We have a few problems getting to the ceremony, though.

0:20:15 > 0:20:18Remember we were about three or four hours late?

0:20:18 > 0:20:21'Mr Jones chose me to pitch our car simulator device

0:20:21 > 0:20:24'because he said I was good at presenting ideas.

0:20:24 > 0:20:27'Looks like you made a good choice there, Mr Jones,

0:20:27 > 0:20:28'as I am now a presenter!

0:20:31 > 0:20:34'I've wanted to be a Blue Peter presenter since I was about 10.

0:20:34 > 0:20:36'And you know how you sign each other's homework diaries

0:20:36 > 0:20:39'with messages when you leave primary school?

0:20:39 > 0:20:42'I asked people if they wanted me to sign my autograph

0:20:42 > 0:20:45'so they could sell it once I became a famous Blue Peter presenter.

0:20:45 > 0:20:47'But not many of them took me up on my offer.'

0:20:47 > 0:20:51Now I actually am a Blue Peter present, people sometimes want it.

0:20:51 > 0:20:55'It was a long journey to my dream job, though.

0:20:55 > 0:20:58'I started out dressing up as a lion to be a mascot called Spike

0:20:58 > 0:21:02'for UK Athletics and first started presenting at university.'

0:21:02 > 0:21:06He's a clever parrot, this one.

0:21:06 > 0:21:07'I presented for KISS FM

0:21:07 > 0:21:10'and, combining my love of sport and telly,

0:21:10 > 0:21:13'when I was 21 I appeared on Gladiators ` and won!'

0:21:15 > 0:21:19He's got there, he's got there! He's won it against all the odds!

0:21:22 > 0:21:26'2013 was a big year for me when I made it onto the CBBC screens

0:21:26 > 0:21:28'presenting Wild, Match of the Day Kickabout

0:21:35 > 0:21:37Yes, it is. I really could not be much more excited.

0:21:37 > 0:21:40'So, how do you make a Radzi?

0:21:41 > 0:21:45'Well, you just need a dash of Scotland, a pinch of Zimbabwe,

0:21:45 > 0:21:48'a massive splodge of awesome family,

0:21:48 > 0:21:50'a sprinkling of sport

0:21:50 > 0:21:53'and, of course, a centre of pure Blue Peter.

0:21:55 > 0:21:56'So, that's me and my family.

0:21:56 > 0:22:00'But I've also made some really good friends since I started Blue Peter.'

0:22:00 > 0:22:02I feel like I've known Lindsey and Barney for years.

0:22:02 > 0:22:04That might be due to the fact that we spent

0:22:04 > 0:22:08nearly 14 hours together in a car for our first adventure.

0:22:08 > 0:22:10That adventure was stone skimming and it was worth it.

0:22:10 > 0:22:13Welcome to your first film on Blue Peter.

0:22:13 > 0:22:16You know about this show's history, it is an incredible place to be,

0:22:26 > 0:22:30and we have enrolled ourselves into a world championship sport.

0:22:30 > 0:22:33World Championships? I'm not that good at football, you know.

0:22:33 > 0:22:35Is it rugby, athletics?

0:22:35 > 0:22:37BOTH: Stone skimming.

0:22:37 > 0:22:41Yes, that's right, we are at the Stone Skimming World Championship,

0:22:41 > 0:22:45which takes place once a year on the tiny Easdale Island.

0:22:46 > 0:22:49Competitors travel from all over the world to take part

0:22:49 > 0:22:53in this fun and friendly competition.

0:22:53 > 0:22:55So we're here to take part and, who knows,

0:22:55 > 0:22:59maybe one of us could become a world champion?

0:22:59 > 0:23:01I'll be absolutely honest, I know nothing about stone skimming.

0:23:01 > 0:23:05But look where we are. We are in the centre of the stone skimming world.

0:23:05 > 0:23:07There are stones, there's water, perfect conditions

0:23:07 > 0:23:09for a stone skimming championships.

0:23:09 > 0:23:10We're just about ready.

0:23:10 > 0:23:12If we stand a chance we should go and split up. Good idea.

0:23:12 > 0:23:14Let's do it.

0:23:14 > 0:23:18I'm off to find the best stone to skim with an expert stone skimmer.

0:23:18 > 0:23:21Nine-year-old John MacFadyen is going to show me

0:23:21 > 0:23:23how to find the perfect stone.

0:23:23 > 0:23:25It's got to fit around your finger.

0:23:25 > 0:23:27OK, it's got to fit around your finger.

0:23:32 > 0:23:37Each stone used must be no bigger than three inches in diameter.

0:23:37 > 0:23:40Try not to be too light or too heavy. Just in the middle.

0:23:40 > 0:23:44If it's too heavy it's just going to plonk into the water, isn't it?

0:23:46 > 0:23:50We've got a perfect stone. Radzi, what are we going to do with it?

0:23:50 > 0:23:52Well, that's the stone, but how do you throw it?

0:23:52 > 0:23:57My stone skimming expert is John's older brother, Alan.

0:23:57 > 0:24:01Alan, could you give me some advice on how to throw these bad boys?

0:24:01 > 0:24:07Go right down. Hold you hand up and release. And release? OK.

0:24:07 > 0:24:14'Right then, Radzi. Get low, aim far and release.

0:24:14 > 0:24:17'I think I'm going to need some more practice. Yes, you are, mate.

0:24:17 > 0:24:21While you do that, I'm going to check out the competition.

0:24:21 > 0:24:23People from all over the world travel to take part

0:24:23 > 0:24:28but nobody has travelled further than Japanese TV star Festival Man.

0:24:30 > 0:24:33You can get a really good distance on this competition.

0:24:33 > 0:24:37This arm, very strong? Yeah. OK. Any tips on what to do?

0:24:44 > 0:24:47Best of luck, thank you very much. Good luck.

0:24:48 > 0:24:51A couple more practice throws and it's competition time.

0:24:53 > 0:24:58Everyone gets three throws each and it has to skim at least three times.

0:24:58 > 0:25:01The further you throw the better, because it's all about distance.

0:25:01 > 0:25:05That's got to be it, hasn't it? Definitely three bounces.

0:25:05 > 0:25:10So, it's Team Blue Peter. First up is Lindsey. Good luck.

0:25:11 > 0:25:13First throw. Not bad!

0:25:14 > 0:25:18Yes, that's one, I haven't failed. OK, here we go.

0:25:19 > 0:25:22I think I'm getting the hang of this.

0:25:23 > 0:25:25OK, two down.

0:25:27 > 0:25:28Yes! Saved my best till last.

0:25:28 > 0:25:31Not bad, I didn't fail.

0:25:31 > 0:25:34So, my best throw was 19 metres.

0:25:34 > 0:25:37But could the boys do any better?

0:25:37 > 0:25:38Next up, it's Barney.

0:25:38 > 0:25:41It's a big pressure gig, isn't it?

0:25:46 > 0:25:49Quite a lot of skims, but not very far.

0:25:49 > 0:25:51We can get further than that.

0:25:53 > 0:25:55Oh, that was a good one.

0:25:57 > 0:25:58OK, this is it.

0:26:02 > 0:26:05Yes, yes, yes! It's a monster!

0:26:05 > 0:26:08That'll do. That looked quite far.

0:26:09 > 0:26:15Oh, yes. Rescued it on his last throw. 30 metres, I am well chuffed.

0:26:15 > 0:26:17Now it's my turn.

0:26:20 > 0:26:22Boom! Take a look at that.

0:26:24 > 0:26:26I know we can go further, come on.

0:26:26 > 0:26:28Oh, no! Go on!

0:26:28 > 0:26:30This is the one, let's hear it!

0:26:30 > 0:26:31CHEERING

0:26:34 > 0:26:36No, no...

0:26:38 > 0:26:39That was bad.

0:26:42 > 0:26:46I also got 30 metres, so it's a draw between me and Barney.

0:26:47 > 0:26:50OK, so none of us won the competition.

0:26:50 > 0:26:53The winning distance was a massive 65 metres.

0:26:53 > 0:26:56But we're proud of what we achieved and, most of all,

0:26:56 > 0:26:58we had a great time.

0:27:00 > 0:27:04Well, what a day it's been, half an hour of Radziness.

0:27:04 > 0:27:06I hope you now know a little bit more about me.

0:27:06 > 0:27:08But that's enough from me, isn't it?

0:27:08 > 0:27:11It's now time to find out what's coming up next week's show.

0:27:11 > 0:27:14Lindsey and Barney meet the awesome Pentatonix
