:00:10. > :00:17.We have got a wicked Blue Peter show for you today. I put the star on top
:00:18. > :00:22.of the Trafalgar Square Christmas tree. And I got to rub shoulders
:00:23. > :00:28.with rigid whisker and got a surprise behind the scenes at Annie
:00:29. > :00:33.'s Castle. And we reveal the short list for Young Sports Personality of
:00:34. > :00:52.the Year. That is all coming up today on live Blue Peter.
:00:53. > :00:59.Hello! We have such a good show coming your way today. It is
:01:00. > :01:07.Thursday, it is 5.30, it is live, and that means we want you to get in
:01:08. > :01:11.touch! We are feeling Christmassy on Blue Peter today. I have a
:01:12. > :01:15.question. If you could have a Christmas wish for the holiday, what
:01:16. > :01:21.would it be and why? We are not talking smartphones or tablets or a
:01:22. > :01:27.bike. We are talking magical Christmas wishes, so get in touch
:01:28. > :01:30.and let us know. Mine would be going to space in a rocket and then
:01:31. > :01:35.looking down on Earth and all the Christmas lights. My one would be a
:01:36. > :01:42.magical arsenal football shirt where I could play for Arsenal with the
:01:43. > :01:49.speed of the Walker. You know what to do. Get online and tell us your
:01:50. > :01:54.Christmas wish and why. Lindsey, check this out. We have been
:01:55. > :02:00.counting down to Christmas on CBBC, and you have as well. Look at some
:02:01. > :02:09.of the post, with pictures of the cards we made last week. Amy made
:02:10. > :02:16.the CBBC Blue Peter Christmas card. -- Jamie. This one is from Ben, who
:02:17. > :02:21.also made the Christmas card. He seems to think you beat me in a
:02:22. > :02:28.snowball fight. I agree! And this one is from Lucy. She has made an
:02:29. > :02:33.Advent kind are all by herself. And under number 14, Blue Peter
:02:34. > :02:39.presenters. You have not just been sending in e-mails, look at the big
:02:40. > :02:45.badge wall. It is cake this week! We have pictures of animals, the Blue
:02:46. > :02:50.Peter ship, a Christmas theme. I am loving it. I also love this from
:02:51. > :02:56.Essie from Berkhamsted. She made a beautiful star as a Christmas tree
:02:57. > :03:06.decoration. And on my left, this is from Josie. She made this wonderful
:03:07. > :03:10.decoration from felt. This is from Mairead and Michael from Surrey,
:03:11. > :03:18.brother and sister. They made this Blue Peter logo out of blue tiles.
:03:19. > :03:27.It took two days. It is going up in our office. Thank you for getting
:03:28. > :03:34.involved. That is commitment! If you have been watching CBBC recently,
:03:35. > :03:41.you will probably have seen Danny 's Castle. Not only does it start
:03:42. > :03:45.people like Shannon Flynn and Richard Risca, but the cast and crew
:03:46. > :03:51.have a surprise for me when I went behind the scenes on this really
:03:52. > :03:58.cool CBBC drama. Take one blink acyl, a troublesome
:03:59. > :04:06.cos in and a pair of ghastly ghosts, and what have you got? Top
:04:07. > :04:09.CBBC series Dani's Castle, and I have got the keys to the castle door
:04:10. > :04:17.for one day only. The first series of Dani's Castle saw Dani inherit
:04:18. > :04:23.the ancient castle, Jimmy, a cousin she did not know she had, as well as
:04:24. > :04:31.the groundskeeper's children and the castle's 250-year-old resident
:04:32. > :04:37.ghosts. That was series one. This is an exclusive behind the scenes look
:04:38. > :04:42.at series two. To find out more about the madcap happenings at the
:04:43. > :04:48.castle, I am catching up with one of the stars of the show, Shannon
:04:49. > :04:57.Flynn. Hello, Shannon. You play Kate. What is she like? Rich and
:04:58. > :05:02.always coming up with -- Richard is always coming up with ways to us
:05:03. > :05:06.they've -- save the castle, and she says it is never going to work.
:05:07. > :05:15.Sometimes things happen for a reason. Two of the newest additions
:05:16. > :05:21.to the castle in this series are the castle's mutts, Roxy and Diego --
:05:22. > :05:29.mice. This is the chill out zone for the nice. It is where they hang
:05:30. > :05:34.out, relax, maybe sleep or eat. Don't go! We have huge fairy lights
:05:35. > :05:39.hanging there, which looked huge compared to the size of my head.
:05:40. > :05:47.Last but not least are some cotton buds, which looked like they have
:05:48. > :05:50.been used. The castle founder is played by Friday Download regular
:05:51. > :05:59.rigid whisker. What is it like playing him? He is really cool, fun,
:06:00. > :06:04.upbeat, loads of charisma. I need banners, flyers, T-shirts. I want
:06:05. > :06:10.everybody to know what is going on. We are standing in the radio
:06:11. > :06:17.station. He is starting his own radio station. Richard tells
:06:18. > :06:24.everybody what to do. He believes in his music. So he is in charge of the
:06:25. > :06:30.station. They may waive letters in our faces, but they will never take
:06:31. > :06:35.away our radio. But it turns out that the cast had a bit of a
:06:36. > :06:39.surprise for me. You do any acting before? Want to be part of the show?
:06:40. > :06:46.You have got 24 hours to learn your lines. But luck. You will also be
:06:47. > :06:51.doing some dancing. We have a choreographer coming in, so the
:06:52. > :06:58.pressure is on full I am excited. Two steps forward. But there is no
:06:59. > :07:03.time for nerves. I am straight into dance rehearsals. In this episode, I
:07:04. > :07:08.play myself, which should be easy. But I have to teach that to a load
:07:09. > :07:16.of actors. How that is going to go, I don't know. But so far, so good.
:07:17. > :07:21.Next, I'm off to get a few tips, watching the actors at work. These
:07:22. > :07:30.guys are total pros and the more I watch them, more nervous I get. Des
:07:31. > :07:35.is going to be helping me. She will do great. Onto hair, make-up and
:07:36. > :07:43.costume. Before I know it, rehearsals are underway. Hope I
:07:44. > :07:50.don't floss my lines. Wing walking in Wyoming. We have just rehearsed
:07:51. > :07:54.the first scene, which went OK. I was a bit ropey online is at first,
:07:55. > :08:01.but I think I have got them now, and now we do it for real. Lights,
:08:02. > :08:04.camera, action. I can't believe I'm actually appearing in an episode of
:08:05. > :08:22.Dani's Castle, but what does the director think? And that is a wrap.
:08:23. > :08:27.It was great having Lindsey is part of the cast of Dani's Castle. She
:08:28. > :08:32.was fun to work with. Thank you for having me. That is a wrap for me. It
:08:33. > :08:36.was so much fun being part of the cast of Dani's Castle, and this is
:08:37. > :08:42.how it ended up looking like. Prepare to have your mind... Is that
:08:43. > :08:56.Lindsey Russell from Blue Peter? Yeah. Aaagh! Are those? Ghosts.
:08:57. > :08:59.Aaagh! Sorry, not cool. I'm sure you can tell from my phenomenal acting
:09:00. > :09:05.that I have a drama degree from University. But if you want to see
:09:06. > :09:09.that episode of Dani's Castle, it will be on next Wednesday at 5.30 on
:09:10. > :09:16.CBBC. If you have missed any episodes, you can find them on
:09:17. > :09:20.iPlayer. Lindsey Russell, a quiz question for you. Which award do
:09:21. > :09:26.these sporting superstars have in common? Tom Daley, with this
:09:27. > :09:31.exquisite dive at the 2012 Olympics, Andy Murray, winning
:09:32. > :09:39.Wimbledon, and Ellie Simmonds, 2008 apparent pics? I am going to go for
:09:40. > :09:46.Young Sports Personality of the Year. Yes, but before winning, those
:09:47. > :09:51.guys were competing at the junior ranks, and it is sports stars like
:09:52. > :09:56.that who have been nominated for this year's Young Sports Personality
:09:57. > :10:01.of the Year 2013. I was honoured to be part of the panel that determined
:10:02. > :10:08.the top three. We started with 50 nominees, Whittle them down to ten,
:10:09. > :10:14.and then had the unenviable job of choosing just three. Now,
:10:15. > :10:17.exclusively on Blue Peter, you will see it for the first time before
:10:18. > :10:38.anybody else, we are going to show you the three finalists.
:10:39. > :10:47.I'm 16 and I compete in Olympic shooting. I'm currently ranked
:10:48. > :10:56.number one in GB and fifth in the world. I won gold at the Acapulco
:10:57. > :10:59.World Cup. I have tried so many sports throughout my life, and I
:11:00. > :11:03.could not imagine my life without sport, because it gives you
:11:04. > :11:09.something to focus on and gives you determination. It is a great thing.
:11:10. > :11:14.My dreams for the future are definitely to get to compete in Rio
:11:15. > :11:18.2016 Olympics. I went to London 2012 Olympics last year, and it has
:11:19. > :11:22.definitely pushed me to train harder and hopefully reach my goals in the
:11:23. > :11:26.future. It would mean so much to me to win the BBC's Young Sports
:11:27. > :11:31.Personality of the Year out of so many amazing athletes who equally
:11:32. > :11:41.deserve this award. But it is nice to be recognised not just in
:11:42. > :11:51.shooting, but across all sports. I'm Charlie, I'm 17 and I am a
:11:52. > :11:56.golfer. My main accompaniments this year where that I took part in the
:11:57. > :12:03.women's World Cup team against America. I am the youngest ever to
:12:04. > :12:07.compete in it. Sport means to me that great feeling when you have a
:12:08. > :12:12.good victory, that awesome feeling inside you. It is addictive, so you
:12:13. > :12:15.always want to do well. For me, being out in the fresh air or the
:12:16. > :12:19.time and travelling to countries and playing in front of big crowds is
:12:20. > :12:23.the best thing. How has sports changed my life? I travel to
:12:24. > :12:32.different places all the time, but it is good to be back home because I
:12:33. > :12:39.love being in England. To be in the top three is an honour. I have
:12:40. > :12:42.watched this every year, BBC sports personality. It would be great if I
:12:43. > :12:46.could win it, but it is an honour to be in the top three. My dreams for
:12:47. > :13:05.the future, I definitely want to be world number one and see how many
:13:06. > :13:11.tournaments I can win. I'm 18 and I do athletics. This
:13:12. > :13:19.year, I won gold in the 200 metres and the four x 100 meters in the
:13:20. > :13:28.European Junior Championships. I was part of the winning team at the
:13:29. > :13:31.London Anniversary Games. That team also got bronze in Moscow in the
:13:32. > :13:34.World Championships. Sport means a lot to me. Not only do I spend a
:13:35. > :13:38.significant amount of my life running around a track, but it has
:13:39. > :13:42.also enabled me to be focused and determined on things out I'd sport,
:13:43. > :13:46.like school or just something I want to achieve . Sport has given me the
:13:47. > :13:52.confidence and determination to be like, yeah, I want to do that to a
:13:53. > :13:57.high standard. It is so difficult to stay at the top of your game. I
:13:58. > :14:04.think it is harder to be ranked highly in the country than to be
:14:05. > :14:06.ranked further down. If I won the Young Sports Personality of the
:14:07. > :14:10.Year, I don't know what I would do. It would mean so much that not only
:14:11. > :14:14.you thought I was the most worthy winner with such amazing
:14:15. > :14:34.competition, but it would also spur me on and make me more determined to
:14:35. > :14:38.do well in the future. Wow! What an inspiring bunch.
:14:39. > :14:42.Congratulations to all three of those people here. We have here, the
:14:43. > :14:47.Young Sports Personality of the Year award, and if you want to find out
:14:48. > :14:52.who wins it, make sure you are watching BBC One this Sunday at
:14:53. > :14:58.7.30pm. If you want to get involved in sport over the Christmas
:14:59. > :15:03.holidays, head to the website: Bbc.co.uk/bluepeter. There are loads
:15:04. > :15:09.of great ideas on how to do that. The studio is looking Christmas
:15:10. > :15:15.today, especially in Radzi's Christmas Corner! You caught me
:15:16. > :15:20.decorating the corner! Now, Christmas is about 294 hours away.
:15:21. > :15:23.Exciting times. Getting close.
:15:24. > :15:28.No-one is more excited than me but last week when I was told to wake up
:15:29. > :15:33.at the crack of dawn to decorate the Christmas tree, I thought, can't
:15:34. > :15:35.they do it later but then they told me it was the Trafalgar Square
:15:36. > :15:40.Christmas tree. Now, Radzi, given the history of
:15:41. > :15:44.this tree, were you careful with the star? I know what you are talking
:15:45. > :15:48.about. Take a look. Putting the star on top would have
:15:49. > :15:56.been the easy part, or at least it should have been... Oh, my goodness!
:15:57. > :16:05.I have just dropped the star! So, no pressure on me when it was my turn!
:16:06. > :16:15.It is early in the morning, here in London. We are all awaiting the
:16:16. > :16:20.arifle of something very important. This year's Trafalgar Square-and I
:16:21. > :16:26.have been given a special job to do, to put the star on the top of the
:16:27. > :16:31.tree. Before long, the Christmas tree arrives at Trafalgar Square. It
:16:32. > :16:39.has travelled over 1,000 miles to gel here from Norway. A few days
:16:40. > :16:45.ago, I went to meet the tree as it arrived on the docks. It is 4.00am.
:16:46. > :16:54.It is cold it is windy, but that does not matter as the roll
:16:55. > :17:00.on-roll-off vessel is coming. At the end of the journey, the goods are
:17:01. > :17:05.rolled on, at the end, they are rolled off.
:17:06. > :17:10.Top to bottom, this beauty of a tree is the same length as two
:17:11. > :17:17.double-decker buses placed end-to-end it is massive. When I get
:17:18. > :17:23.the tree up, I'll be putting the star there. Now it is going on to a
:17:24. > :17:27.special lorry to be transported to London. The straps are on. The tree
:17:28. > :17:32.is ready to be lifted. Local children take part in a special
:17:33. > :17:38.Christmas tradition to have their artwork placed on the tree. This
:17:39. > :17:47.year, the winners are... Stefan. Brandon. Harvey. Like, this -- this
:17:48. > :17:53.looks great, what have you drawn? There is a Santa going up the tree.
:17:54. > :17:58.I have drawn a candy cane with lots of presents.
:17:59. > :18:01.Stefan, what about you? This is a snowman. This is the glitter, those
:18:02. > :18:06.are his gloves. It is simple but it works so well!
:18:07. > :18:11.When the tree is ready to go, we hand the pictures over to Laura, the
:18:12. > :18:17.driver, who takes them to Trafalgar Square. Back in London, the work is
:18:18. > :18:22.under way. Not many people know this but there is a permanent Christmas
:18:23. > :18:25.tree stand right here in Trafalgar Square.
:18:26. > :18:30.The guys behind me are o now removing the slabs, and there is
:18:31. > :18:37.where the Christmas tree is put into position. Take a look. Yep, putting
:18:38. > :18:41.up the travel raffle travel -- Trafalgar Square tree, is like
:18:42. > :18:48.putting up your own one at home. Although this one is 15 times
:18:49. > :18:54.higher! We are in! That's the tree in place. So now the massive task of
:18:55. > :18:58.decorating the tree begins. I start with displaying the artwork.
:18:59. > :19:04.Well, Brandon, Stefan and Harvey's pictures are displayed and ready to
:19:05. > :19:11.go under the tree. Now the all-important lights. 900 bulbs
:19:12. > :19:16.require unravelling and checking! Now to check the section of the
:19:17. > :19:22.lights, yes, please, sir. Wow! Now to top it off, for the starring
:19:23. > :19:27.role... The time has finally rooifed. I get to put the star on
:19:28. > :19:33.the Trafalgar Square Christmas tree! But I will need a very long ladder!
:19:34. > :19:40.Luckily for me, with the help of this machinery, I'll be able to get
:19:41. > :19:45.to the top-all 21 metres high of it! So, what to we do first, Steve?
:19:46. > :19:50.Let's take the bolts out. All of a sudden, I find myself a
:19:51. > :19:59.little short of breath! Here we go. The moment of truth. The star goes
:20:00. > :20:08.on the Trafalgar Square tree! Steve, can I let go? Yeah! We're in! Yes!
:20:09. > :20:14.If ever you happen to walk past Trafalgar Square, when you look up,
:20:15. > :20:19.I punt there! A day later, it is time for the grand switch-on of the
:20:20. > :20:23.lights. And following a Norwegian tradition, they are all white.
:20:24. > :20:27.Beautiful. Yeah! You didn't drop it? No, I
:20:28. > :20:31.didn't. We are proud of you. Now with
:20:32. > :20:36.Christmas around the corner, what better way to show you how to make
:20:37. > :20:41.not just one but two declarations. We are showing you how to make a
:20:42. > :20:46.Christmas tree button bauble. And I will help you make a
:20:47. > :20:54.personalised paper bauble. Here with me I have Lara and Izzi.
:20:55. > :20:57.And what do you have, Radzi? Saskia and Thomas.
:20:58. > :21:03.High fives. This is easy. All you need is an assortment of buttons and
:21:04. > :21:08.wire from an art craft or even perhaps your garage. All of the
:21:09. > :21:13.details are online, but it is straightforward. Famous last words!
:21:14. > :21:20.So, let's kick off. So, there are two parts. The wire and I will take
:21:21. > :21:27.this length of wire and then I will cut that and then fold it.
:21:28. > :21:31.That is where the buttons are going to go through. Then we come to the
:21:32. > :21:36.buttons. Thank you, mate. If you look at my tree, there, we have a
:21:37. > :21:42.small button on the bottom. They make the trunk. The rest of the
:21:43. > :21:48.buttons make the tree. Starting large, getting smaller. It is easy
:21:49. > :21:57.to lay them out. You have started with the trunk buttons, going from
:21:58. > :22:01.large to small. We start then with threading them through. You guys are
:22:02. > :22:09.cracking. I will get going as well. We have asked the viewers what the
:22:10. > :22:15.Christmas wish at home is, what is yours? So it can be Christmas
:22:16. > :22:23.whenever you want it to be. I think the same.
:22:24. > :22:26.Jump on board, my friend. Lindsey it is time to see how you are getting
:22:27. > :22:32.on. So, the personalised baubles, you
:22:33. > :22:40.need a glass, mug, pen, glue, ribbon, sis ors and ruler --
:22:41. > :22:45.scissors and ruler. I have gone for gold Christmas card. To keep it
:22:46. > :22:49.sparkly. I will turn it over to draw around the outside of the glass. Be
:22:50. > :22:54.careful. It must be as neat as possible. You can fit about nine
:22:55. > :23:01.circles on to one piece of card. That is just enough for the bauble.
:23:02. > :23:06.Next. I grab the scissors and start cutting around the circle. Once I
:23:07. > :23:12.have done that, do it carefully, they must be exactly the same size.
:23:13. > :23:16.Once I have gone around the circles, you should have lots of lovely
:23:17. > :23:23.sparkly ones like so. Then it is time for the fun bit. We start to
:23:24. > :23:29.fold them. Remember the side you want showing, ie the gold side, I
:23:30. > :23:41.fold inside in on itself like so. So, we have been asking Christmas
:23:42. > :23:46.wishes, what is yours Izzi? Liverpool.
:23:47. > :23:49.Lara, what about you? I want a gold Blue Peter badge.
:23:50. > :23:53.I that I that is everyone's life wish, really.
:23:54. > :23:58.Now, once you have folded all of the pieces of circle, you have to stick
:23:59. > :24:04.them together. So get the blew. Don't hold back. That is no fun and
:24:05. > :24:12.a top tip is to grab the ruler and press them along the creases like
:24:13. > :24:17.so. Now once you have glued the sides,
:24:18. > :24:24.stick them together. Make sure that the edges line up. That is really
:24:25. > :24:29.neat. Once you have gone all the way around the bauble, you are just
:24:30. > :24:33.about to finish, before you dot the last two sides, get the ribbon. This
:24:34. > :24:38.is how you hang it on the tree. I have mine here. It is glued
:24:39. > :24:45.together. I will put another bit of glue on the end of it like so.
:24:46. > :24:50.You will make a bit of a mess. Lara is making a huge mess with the
:24:51. > :24:55.dwliter and -- glitter and glue but that is what it is all about! Then
:24:56. > :24:59.simply stick the ribbon in the middle. There is lots to do to make
