0:01:06 > 0:01:08It looks gross but it's actually really tasty.

0:01:08 > 0:01:10It's jam-packed because we're going to be taking

0:01:10 > 0:01:13a look back to when I met top adventurer Bear Grylls and finding

0:01:13 > 0:01:16out some of his tips on how you can survive the outdoors this summer.

0:01:16 > 0:01:18So, Linds, when it comes to surviving the outdoors

0:01:18 > 0:01:21in this kind of weather, there's only one thing you need.

0:01:21 > 0:01:24- And what's that, Radz?- Ice creams. - That is the best idea you've had all day!- Good idea!

0:01:24 > 0:01:28- Come on, we're getting a 99.- Me too. I want raspberry sauce on mine.- Can you get me one?

0:01:28 > 0:01:31Now it's time to meet one of the best bands in the UK.

0:01:31 > 0:01:34They first stormed the Top 10 last year with their single Carry You.

0:01:34 > 0:01:38They took a break and now they are back for 2014 with their new album. Shall we go meet them, Iggy?

0:01:38 > 0:01:40It's their first time on Blue Peter

0:01:50 > 0:01:53- Hi, Union J.- Hello! - Welcome to the show.

0:01:53 > 0:01:55Thank you so much for coming on. Union J: Thanks for having us.

0:01:55 > 0:01:58You've been away from the music scene so what have you been getting up to?

0:01:58 > 0:02:01We've just been really busy. We've been recording the next album,

0:02:01 > 0:02:05travelled the world, went to America for a bit to do some writing and stuff so it's been fun.

0:02:05 > 0:02:07Our new single's on the radio now.

0:02:07 > 0:02:10Yes! And you'll perform it later on in the show. We cannot wait.

0:02:10 > 0:02:13So, I'm going to get onto some questions because we've had

0:02:13 > 0:02:16hundreds of people getting in touch on the website.

0:02:16 > 0:02:21Iggy, are you ready? The first one is from Blue Sprinting Cherry,

0:02:21 > 0:02:24a good name, who says, "I've always wanted to ask a boy band this.

0:02:24 > 0:02:26"How much hair gel do you use?"

0:02:26 > 0:02:30- Union J:- We use spray.- It's hairspray.- It's all about the spray.

0:02:30 > 0:02:34A nice dry look. I like that. Oh! Down you get, Iggy.

0:02:34 > 0:02:36Now, Scarlet Massive Onion says,

0:02:36 > 0:02:40"What is your favourite biscuit to dunk in any drink?"

0:02:40 > 0:02:44- Union J:- Chocolate hobnobs.- Hi-five, Josh.

0:02:44 > 0:02:49- Just a plain digestive.- Just keep it simple. I like that, with a cup of tea.

0:02:49 > 0:02:53Now, Left Right Sunshine Queen says, "If you were to go back in time to

0:02:53 > 0:02:58either the '50s, '60s, '70s, '80s, or '90s, which time would it be and why?

0:02:58 > 0:03:01- I would say '50s.- Really? Why?

0:03:01 > 0:03:04I loved the '90s. The music in the '90s was so cool.

0:03:04 > 0:03:09The '60s was quite hippy, wasn't it? The '60s, because we won the World Cup.

0:03:09 > 0:03:12That's a good answer. I think that would be Radzi's answer as well.

0:03:12 > 0:03:15- Now, is it true your fans are called J Cats?- Yes.

0:03:15 > 0:03:19I'm a bit of a J Cat. I don't think Iggy would like that

0:03:19 > 0:03:23- because she's a dog.- J Dog.- She's your Union J puppy supporter.

0:03:23 > 0:03:25Why do they call you J Cats?

0:03:25 > 0:03:28I don't know. They kind of made it themselves, didn't they?

0:03:28 > 0:03:31Well, it's catchy and we like it.

0:03:31 > 0:03:35And Brown Grumpy Isle wants to know, "Who would you most like to tour with?"

0:03:35 > 0:03:38Obviously Ed Sheeran is on the show today as well

0:03:38 > 0:03:41so I think he would be a cool guy to be on tour with.

0:03:41 > 0:03:43His songs are incredible. He's such a talented guy.

0:03:43 > 0:03:46He was at Wembley when we played at the Summertime Ball.

0:03:46 > 0:03:50It was just the most epic experience to watch. So, yeah, that would be amazing.

0:03:50 > 0:03:51You like him too, don't you, Iggy?

0:03:51 > 0:03:54She loves Ed Sheeran. She's a big Ed Sheeran fan.

0:03:54 > 0:03:59And Red Violet Popular Duck says, "Who sleeps the most and do they snore?"

0:03:59 > 0:04:02- Josh.- Josh, yeah.- Josh loves his sleep.

0:04:02 > 0:04:04- And he thinks he doesn't snore but he does.- No, I do snore.

0:04:04 > 0:04:06It's not really snoring, it's kind of like...

0:04:06 > 0:04:09- George sleeps with his eyes open. - That's weird.

0:04:09 > 0:04:13- Sleeps with both eyes open. - That's scary.

0:04:13 > 0:04:15It's proper creepy.

0:04:15 > 0:04:18Well, Union J, thank you so much for coming today.

0:04:18 > 0:04:20We cannot wait to hear your new single later on.

0:04:20 > 0:04:22It's going to be on this very stage

0:04:22 > 0:04:24and make sure you head to the website...

0:04:24 > 0:04:27Check out even more Union J exclusives.

0:04:27 > 0:04:29It's hot out here, isn't it?

0:04:29 > 0:04:33- I think we need some ice creams. Barney? Radzi?- Yes, ice cream. - Barney!

0:04:33 > 0:04:37Did you get an ice cream for Lindsey and Union J?

0:04:37 > 0:04:39- I thought you were getting them.- No.

0:04:39 > 0:04:42It's OK. Just hide it. She doesn't watch the show. It's fine.

0:04:42 > 0:04:43- I'll do the next bit.- Definitely.

0:04:43 > 0:04:46- That was really tasty though. Really nice.- Yeah, it was really good.

0:04:46 > 0:04:49100 years ago in World War I, the food was nowhere near

0:04:49 > 0:04:50as good as this, as I found out when

0:04:50 > 0:04:52I went behind the scenes of a brand-new series

0:04:52 > 0:04:57called Harriet's Army and I tried to make them some food.

0:04:57 > 0:05:00217, take-one.

0:05:00 > 0:05:04- Action!- Hey, look, I'm on the telly!

0:05:05 > 0:05:09I'm only kidding but I am behind the scenes on a brand-new drama for CBBC

0:05:09 > 0:05:10called Harriet's Army.

0:05:10 > 0:05:12Shall we go meet the cast?

0:05:15 > 0:05:16Let's start from the very top.

0:05:16 > 0:05:18What is Harriet's Army? Who is Harriet and what happens?

0:05:18 > 0:05:21Harriet is a girl in World War I

0:05:21 > 0:05:22and she's in the Guides

0:05:22 > 0:05:24and she's kicked out of the Guides

0:05:24 > 0:05:28because she's a bit naughty and she punches someone in the face.

0:05:28 > 0:05:30But she still wants to help with the war

0:05:30 > 0:05:33so she rallies together a group of children who

0:05:33 > 0:05:37aren't in the Scouts or Guides and tries to help win the war.

0:05:37 > 0:05:41First of all, we look for spies. That's the most important thing.

0:05:41 > 0:05:45- I've already got patrols out looking but we need more.- What's spies?

0:05:45 > 0:05:48Foreigners or Germans trying to find out secrets.

0:05:48 > 0:05:51There are over 80 cast and crew working on Harriet's Army

0:05:51 > 0:05:54which means I've got a very important job to do.

0:05:54 > 0:06:00I'm here to serve lunch but not just any old lunch. Oh, no.

0:06:00 > 0:06:03I'm here to serve these troops the same food that kept

0:06:03 > 0:06:06the British Army marching in World War I.

0:06:09 > 0:06:11But before I can serve anything,

0:06:11 > 0:06:15I need to find out what food was eaten in the First World War.

0:06:16 > 0:06:19- It smells amazing in here. How are you?- Hi, Barney.

0:06:19 > 0:06:21- What's that?- We've some got Maconochie here.

0:06:21 > 0:06:24Maconochie I have never heard of before. I'm here

0:06:24 > 0:06:26today to talk about food that would have been served

0:06:26 > 0:06:28in World War I. So, they had stew?

0:06:28 > 0:06:30Absolutely. So, if you look at the ingredients there,

0:06:30 > 0:06:34we've got a bit of beef, potatoes, carrots,

0:06:34 > 0:06:38but that would have come in a tin and been quite fatty, quite gristly,

0:06:38 > 0:06:42so it wasn't tremendously popular with a lot of the men.

0:06:42 > 0:06:45But it looks really inviting. Is that the kind of thing that I could try?

0:06:45 > 0:06:48- You're braver than I am. - It wasn't tremendously popular.

0:06:48 > 0:06:51- What do you make of it? - It takes a while to chew.

0:06:51 > 0:06:55- It is very salty. - A bit fatty, a bit salty, gristly.

0:06:55 > 0:06:58Yeah, it's that bad.

0:06:58 > 0:07:01I recognise the middle bowl because my grandma still cooks

0:07:01 > 0:07:03with this stuff to this day. It's called corned beef.

0:07:03 > 0:07:08Yeah, bully beef. Lawrence of Arabia said bully beef was more important

0:07:08 > 0:07:12in the history of warfare than the invention of gunpowder

0:07:12 > 0:07:16because if you've got tinned beef, you can keep

0:07:16 > 0:07:17people in the field for longer.

0:07:17 > 0:07:19If you think nutritionally, you're eating a lot of

0:07:19 > 0:07:21salty, fatty red meats, not fresh veg,

0:07:21 > 0:07:24you're not getting fresh fruits...

0:07:24 > 0:07:29It could have a devastating effect on the lower half of our bodies.

0:07:29 > 0:07:31You're going to get a bit bunged up.

0:07:31 > 0:07:35Bunged up meaning "can not go to the toilet when one wants to."

0:07:36 > 0:07:39While the caterers get to work on our World War I lunch,

0:07:39 > 0:07:41I take a break to watch the action.

0:07:41 > 0:07:43There's Ciara in the distance under an umbrella.

0:07:43 > 0:07:46She's just filmed her scene which is quite an important scene in the show.

0:07:46 > 0:07:48This is where she's just handed her uniform back in.

0:07:48 > 0:07:52She got into a lot of trouble. She's quite a feisty character.

0:07:52 > 0:07:55This is where she makes the decision to make her own Army.

0:07:55 > 0:07:57It's quite an important scene.

0:07:57 > 0:07:59- What's all this then? - Haven't you heard?

0:07:59 > 0:08:01The Scouts and Guides have volunteered

0:08:01 > 0:08:04and the Government have said yes this morning.

0:08:04 > 0:08:06- Looks like you've missed the boat. - Volunteers for what?

0:08:06 > 0:08:09We're going to be the second line of defence.

0:08:13 > 0:08:16- Elliot, how you doing? - Not bad, how are you?

0:08:16 > 0:08:18- You're playing Thomas?- Yes, I am.

0:08:18 > 0:08:22- Action! - My character is new to the area.

0:08:22 > 0:08:27When he meets Harriet, he just takes off, starts having a good time,

0:08:27 > 0:08:29starts enjoying it.

0:08:29 > 0:08:33It is quite...astonishing, really, to think you've got a group

0:08:33 > 0:08:37like the Guides and the Scouts who now you think about tying different

0:08:37 > 0:08:41knots and earning badges for going to a camp site but back then, they had a very different role.

0:08:41 > 0:08:45Yes, they said to the Government they wanted to help guard Britain,

0:08:45 > 0:08:49and people who were 14, 15... The Government said yeah

0:08:49 > 0:08:52and they were then guarding England which is a scary thought.

0:08:52 > 0:08:55A lot of things have changed, including the diet.

0:08:55 > 0:08:57I'm in charge of that at the moment

0:08:57 > 0:09:00and we are trying to make food for today's shoot.

0:09:00 > 0:09:03Just an idea of the food you like to eat?

0:09:03 > 0:09:06- I love a good pizza.- Pizza?- Yeah, with lots and lots of meat on it.

0:09:08 > 0:09:11Fast food isn't quite what I have in mind

0:09:11 > 0:09:12but this 80-strong army will be

0:09:12 > 0:09:15getting something to keep them in character.

0:09:15 > 0:09:17I just hope they like my menu.

0:09:17 > 0:09:20We've all heard how popular Maconochie was in the field.

0:09:20 > 0:09:22It wasn't very popular at all.

0:09:22 > 0:09:25But this one which has been lovingly made by Kevin hopefully will keep the

0:09:25 > 0:09:28soldiers marching on set very happily for the next few scenes.

0:09:28 > 0:09:31OK, ROLL UP... Is that what you say? Do you say "Roll up"?

0:09:31 > 0:09:34Come and get your Maconochie, just like mum used to make.

0:09:34 > 0:09:37- This looks nice.- Can I have some Maconochie, please?

0:09:37 > 0:09:40Of course you can, dear sir. Yes.

0:09:43 > 0:09:45What do we think about the Maconochie? Is it nice?

0:09:45 > 0:09:47I think it is a definite success.

0:09:47 > 0:09:50I'm pleased with today. 80 people, cast and crew,

0:09:50 > 0:09:53fed and watered, and the Maconochie went down really well too,

0:09:53 > 0:09:55so I think my work here is done.

0:09:55 > 0:09:58Home time.

0:09:58 > 0:09:59Not so fast.

0:09:59 > 0:10:02- What's that?- Pots aren't going to wash themselves.

0:10:02 > 0:10:04You've got to be kidding me!

0:10:06 > 0:10:08- Are you wondering why I'm wearing a chef's hat?- Yes!

0:10:08 > 0:10:09Because I'm officially a cheffist.

0:10:09 > 0:10:11I made the best Maconochie stew.

0:10:11 > 0:10:13It was lovely, really tasty. Everyone loved it.

0:10:13 > 0:10:15You were good at the washing up as well.

0:10:15 > 0:10:17You can come round to mine for dinner more. That was very good.

0:10:17 > 0:10:20Everything was squeaky clean. I'm good at washing up.

0:10:20 > 0:10:22And if you missed Harriet's Army this week then

0:10:22 > 0:10:24you can catch up on CBBC iPlayer.

0:10:24 > 0:10:26- Thank you, Radzi, very much indeed. - My pleasure!

0:10:26 > 0:10:29Now for some music. He's already bagged the fastest selling album of 2014.

0:10:29 > 0:10:31He is the incredible singer-songwriter

0:10:31 > 0:10:33known as Ed Sheeran and recently

0:10:33 > 0:10:35I met up with him to find out how to make it in the music business.

0:10:35 > 0:10:37I could be in catering.

0:10:38 > 0:10:41Today, we are going to do to the very start of your career.

0:10:41 > 0:10:44When did you become Ed Sheeran? When did you first pick up that guitar?

0:10:44 > 0:10:47It was the Queen's Jubilee on BBC.

0:10:47 > 0:10:51I saw Eric Clapton play Layla and I thought, I want to learn that,

0:10:51 > 0:10:53that looks really cool,

0:10:53 > 0:10:56so I got a guitar and that was the first thing I learnt.

0:10:56 > 0:11:00I play piano but I did Grade 5 and that was it. I got bored because I

0:11:00 > 0:11:02wanted to learn Jimi Hendrix and that sort of stuff.

0:11:02 > 0:11:04You don't necessarily need to be Grade 8, do you?

0:11:04 > 0:11:07This is the thing I have a massive problem with.

0:11:07 > 0:11:08I don't know music theory

0:11:08 > 0:11:12and I got looked down on by a lot of musicians for not knowing music theory.

0:11:12 > 0:11:15I can't read music, I don't know scales,

0:11:15 > 0:11:17I don't really know what some chords are called.

0:11:17 > 0:11:18But you don't need to learn that.

0:11:18 > 0:11:22The reason I got into music was I wanted to play

0:11:22 > 0:11:24the songs of the artists I was into

0:11:24 > 0:11:29so any time I see kids wanting to get into music, I say find a guitar teacher

0:11:29 > 0:11:33that will teach you the songs you want to play. Practise is the key.

0:11:33 > 0:11:34You can't get anywhere without practise.

0:11:34 > 0:11:38As long as you practise the chords and practise singing without looking

0:11:38 > 0:11:43down, singing up, singing with the guitar, making sure you get your strums right, making sure that...

0:11:43 > 0:11:46Or piano, any instrument, but just make sure you're doing it

0:11:46 > 0:11:47for the right reasons because

0:11:47 > 0:11:51you won't enjoy it if you are forced to do it.

0:11:51 > 0:11:52Do you think performing

0:11:52 > 0:11:54and writing music was something you were born to do?

0:11:54 > 0:11:58I think you can be anything if you put your mind to it.

0:11:58 > 0:12:00I wanted to be a musician, I put my mind to it and became it.

0:12:00 > 0:12:02But I wasn't born with some natural talent.

0:12:02 > 0:12:05I couldn't always sing or play guitar,

0:12:05 > 0:12:09sing in tune, write lyrics, make stuff rhyme or perform.

0:12:09 > 0:12:11I had to learn all of these things.

0:12:11 > 0:12:14I think if you put your mind to anything, you can do it.

0:12:14 > 0:12:17Is there a process of learning how to actually perform your material?

0:12:17 > 0:12:19The first performance I did, I was 11

0:12:19 > 0:12:22and I played Layla at the school concert, the Eric Clapton song,

0:12:22 > 0:12:26and I didn't want to go on stage. I was really scared.

0:12:26 > 0:12:29I was behind the stage being like, "I don't want to go on, I don't want to go on."

0:12:29 > 0:12:31As soon as I went on, I was nervous, played the song

0:12:31 > 0:12:34and as soon as I finished I was like, "Well, that wasn't too bad."

0:12:34 > 0:12:37The more and more you do it, you just fall into performing.

0:12:37 > 0:12:38Is a style something you can pick?

0:12:38 > 0:12:43My style is maybe from ten different acts I'm into.

0:12:43 > 0:12:46I'm into Damien Rice, a bit of Foy Vance and a bit of Stevie Wonder and

0:12:46 > 0:12:48you stick it all into the mixing pot,

0:12:48 > 0:12:50practise for years and years, it comes out

0:12:50 > 0:12:52and eventually it's your sound.

0:12:52 > 0:12:57So, again, I wouldn't worry too much about making stuff sound like you.

0:12:57 > 0:13:00All your favourite artists started off impersonating other people.

0:13:00 > 0:13:02I'm so glad you got on to the stage at 11 years old

0:13:02 > 0:13:04and played Layla by Eric Clapton

0:13:04 > 0:13:07because if you hadn't have done that and you hadn't have felt that buzz,

0:13:07 > 0:13:08you wouldn't be here today.

0:13:08 > 0:13:11When you put all these elements together, you get a top musician

0:13:11 > 0:13:15and there's no better than Ed Sheeran so he's right here, right now

0:13:15 > 0:13:16to perform Thinking Out Loud.

0:13:16 > 0:13:22# When your legs don't work like they used to before

0:13:22 > 0:13:28# And I can't sweep you off of your feet

0:13:28 > 0:13:33# Will your mouth still remember the taste of my love?

0:13:33 > 0:13:37# Will your eyes still smile from your cheeks?

0:13:37 > 0:13:44# And, darling, I will be loving you 'til we're 70

0:13:49 > 0:13:57# And, baby, my heart could still fall as hard at 23

0:13:57 > 0:14:06# And I'm thinking 'bout how people fall in love in mysterious ways

0:14:06 > 0:14:11# Maybe just the touch of a hand

0:14:11 > 0:14:16# Well, me I fall in love with you every single day

0:14:16 > 0:14:21# And I just wanna tell you I am

0:14:21 > 0:14:26# So honey now

0:14:26 > 0:14:31# Take me into your loving arms

0:14:31 > 0:14:37# Kiss me under the light of a thousand stars

0:14:37 > 0:14:41# Place your head on my beating heart

0:14:41 > 0:14:44# I'm thinking out loud

0:14:44 > 0:14:50# That maybe we found love right where we are

0:14:50 > 0:14:56# When my hair's all but gone and my memory fades

0:14:56 > 0:15:02# And the crowds won't remember my name

0:15:02 > 0:15:08# When my hands don't play the strings the same way

0:15:08 > 0:15:11# I know you will still love me the same

0:15:11 > 0:15:18# Cos honey your soul could never grow old, it's evergreen

0:15:22 > 0:15:31# And, baby, your smile's forever in my mind and memory

0:15:31 > 0:15:39# I'm thinking 'bout how people fall in love in mysterious ways

0:15:39 > 0:15:45# Maybe it's all part of a plan

0:15:45 > 0:15:50# Well, I'll just keep on making the same mistakes

0:15:50 > 0:15:55# Hoping that you'll understand

0:15:55 > 0:15:59# But, baby, now

0:15:59 > 0:16:04# Take me into your loving arms

0:16:04 > 0:16:10# Kiss me under the light of a thousand stars

0:16:10 > 0:16:14# Place your head on my beating heart

0:16:14 > 0:16:17# Thinking out loud

0:16:17 > 0:16:23# That maybe we found love right where we are

0:16:23 > 0:16:28# We found love right where we are. #

0:16:29 > 0:16:31Isn't he amazing?

0:16:31 > 0:16:33I hope you enjoyed that as much as I did chatting to him

0:16:33 > 0:16:37and if you write a song or you're inspired to do something, send it to us. We'd love to hear it.

0:16:37 > 0:16:40So many good ideas. If you could do that this summer, that'd be a great challenge!

0:16:40 > 0:16:41The next Ed Sheeran.

0:16:41 > 0:16:44It's all about being creative, as is the case with Big Badge Wall.

0:16:44 > 0:16:47Just take a look at how colourful it is this week! I'm loving it!

0:16:47 > 0:16:48Let me show you these magnets.

0:16:48 > 0:16:52They stick to your fridge and I'm going to stick it on my fridge.

0:16:52 > 0:16:53Amaris from Fife designed them.

0:16:53 > 0:16:55They are Blue Peter Shield magnets with our names

0:16:55 > 0:16:58and our little faces on them as well. Thank you very much.

0:16:58 > 0:17:00- They're brilliant. - Barney, they are cool.

0:17:00 > 0:17:02Like what you did there, because they're going on a fridge.

0:17:02 > 0:17:05Not as cool, however, as what Maya in Hampshire did.

0:17:05 > 0:17:06Take a look at this.

0:17:06 > 0:17:10It is the Blue Peter Summer Activity Book for each Barney, Lindsey and myself.

0:17:10 > 0:17:13This is my one and it's got stuff like how to handle your hair

0:17:13 > 0:17:14- getting wet...- That's so nice.

0:17:14 > 0:17:17It really is fantastic and at the very back it says, "This book

0:17:17 > 0:17:20"can become very addictive." Well done, Maya, thank you.

0:17:20 > 0:17:22That is brilliant. And one I couldn't go without talking about -

0:17:22 > 0:17:26take that for two seconds, Radzi - is Anya in London.

0:17:26 > 0:17:31She has made almost a life-size model of Iggy! Check that out!

0:17:31 > 0:17:34We're going to show it to Iggy. What do you make of that, Iggs?

0:17:34 > 0:17:36I think she likes it. Anya, thank you so much for sending that in.

0:17:36 > 0:17:37What an amazing effort!

0:17:37 > 0:17:40And she's even got her own little Iggy name badge just like Iggy.

0:17:40 > 0:17:43- Thank you.- She's huge. I think we should call her Biggy.

0:17:43 > 0:17:46Something else that caught our attention was the online

0:17:46 > 0:17:48article about a class of primary schoolchildren who,

0:17:48 > 0:17:51between them, have got over 30 Blue Peter badges.

0:17:51 > 0:17:54And we were so impressed with this we thought we would have to have

0:17:54 > 0:17:55them on Blue Peter

0:17:55 > 0:17:58so would you please welcome Nelson Marsden Community Primary School.

0:17:58 > 0:17:59Hey, guys, come on in.

0:17:59 > 0:18:03- Welcome, welcome!- Guys, thank you so much for coming in today.

0:18:03 > 0:18:05Ohh, Iggy's just saying hello.

0:18:05 > 0:18:08She's very impressed because so many people from your school have a

0:18:08 > 0:18:11badge and Abira and Maliah, you two are sisters, aren't you?

0:18:11 > 0:18:13And you actually started the badge collection.

0:18:13 > 0:18:17- So, what gave you that idea?- Our mum. - And why's that?

0:18:17 > 0:18:19She never got a Blue Peter Badge so she totally inspired us

0:18:19 > 0:18:21to get one and we did try. Oh!

0:18:21 > 0:18:23So you're doing it on behalf of your mum?

0:18:23 > 0:18:25- You're getting the school involved.- Love it.

0:18:25 > 0:18:27- Well done! - Aisha, let's talk about your badge.

0:18:27 > 0:18:29- How did you get it? - I got it because I did a review.

0:18:29 > 0:18:32So you're going to be a journalist of the future?

0:18:32 > 0:18:34How about you? How did you get yours? You got three?

0:18:34 > 0:18:38I was inspired by Jacqueline Wilson so I used some words from her

0:18:38 > 0:18:42book and used them in my story and that's how I got my silver badge.

0:18:42 > 0:18:44Congratulations. There's another two there.

0:18:44 > 0:18:47A purple badge for reviewing a show and the Blue Peter badge. Well done!

0:18:47 > 0:18:50Let's move on to a proper legend who you all recognise.

0:18:50 > 0:18:53Let's have a look at YOUR badges. These are old school badges.

0:18:53 > 0:18:55These are actually yours, aren't they?

0:18:55 > 0:18:59- Yes, they are, yes. From the 1960s. - Wow.- When I used to send in lots of ideas and lots of competitions.

0:18:59 > 0:19:03- Well, how proud are you of your school for following in your footsteps?- Absolutely fantastic.

0:19:03 > 0:19:06Thank you for coming on the show and showing us. They're amazing!

0:19:06 > 0:19:09Nothing compares to actually getting a Blue Peter badge in the post.

0:19:09 > 0:19:11I remember mine when I was ten and the magic never leaves so,

0:19:11 > 0:19:14guys, thank you SO much for coming in. Fantastic.

0:19:14 > 0:19:17Now, I can see lots of green badges, purple badges.

0:19:17 > 0:19:20Are there any Blue Peter sport badges 2014?

0:19:20 > 0:19:22Well, you need to know how to get your hands on one.

0:19:22 > 0:19:24This is for inspiring a friend or family member to take

0:19:24 > 0:19:25part in a sport that you love.

0:19:25 > 0:19:27If you want to find out how you can get one,

0:19:27 > 0:19:29head to the Blue Peter website.

0:19:29 > 0:19:31Consider it an adventure for the summer.

0:19:31 > 0:19:32Speaking of adventures,

0:19:32 > 0:19:34someone who's very used to those is Chief Scout Bear Grylls

0:19:34 > 0:19:36and I went to meet him

0:19:36 > 0:19:39and if you're struggling for something to do this summer, check this out.

0:19:39 > 0:19:40He's got loads of ideas.

0:19:41 > 0:19:42Bear Grylls.

0:19:42 > 0:19:46There is nothing this ex-SAS trooper doesn't know about surviving

0:19:46 > 0:19:48extreme environments.

0:19:48 > 0:19:52He's led record-breaking expeditions to the world's extremes,

0:19:52 > 0:19:56climbed cliffs, jumped from helicopters

0:19:56 > 0:19:59and even eaten scorpions.

0:19:59 > 0:20:02You could say he wrote the book on extreme survival

0:20:02 > 0:20:06but there's one thing this tough guy has NEVER had to contend with.

0:20:06 > 0:20:09And that's me, Lindsey Russell.

0:20:09 > 0:20:11- Hi, there. Nice to meet you. - Nice to meet you too.

0:20:11 > 0:20:14Now, I've got a bit of a Blue Peter challenge for you today.

0:20:14 > 0:20:16Can you build a den out of these items?

0:20:16 > 0:20:17Yeah, piece of cake.

0:20:22 > 0:20:23Got a ground sheet.

0:20:23 > 0:20:25We'll lay that out on the ground

0:20:25 > 0:20:26so when you sit down, you don't get wet.

0:20:26 > 0:20:30We've got some rope and I always say if you don't know knots, do lots.

0:20:30 > 0:20:34- Then we've got a duvet cover. I love the colour.- I really like it.

0:20:34 > 0:20:38- Flowery and pink, quite camouflaged. - This'll keep the predators away.

0:20:38 > 0:20:42Grab an acorn, put it inside and then, you see,

0:20:42 > 0:20:45it just kind of holds it in place so when you pull it.

0:20:45 > 0:20:47It's not going to come off.

0:20:47 > 0:20:48Then we've got some sticks.

0:20:48 > 0:20:51If you did want to know one knot, this is my favourite.

0:20:51 > 0:20:52It's called the clove hitch.

0:20:52 > 0:20:56You make a loop and then another loop, one in front of the other,

0:20:56 > 0:21:01stick through it, pull it tight and that will secure it.

0:21:03 > 0:21:04Very nice job.

0:21:11 > 0:21:13We're going to make a fire without any matches,

0:21:13 > 0:21:17without any lighter, no blowtorches, nothing!

0:21:17 > 0:21:20- That would be my first port of call. - With that.- Wow.

0:21:20 > 0:21:22Right, so it's just called a firesteel.

0:21:22 > 0:21:24All you're doing is putting that down,

0:21:24 > 0:21:27and you're striking and you get a flame.

0:21:27 > 0:21:30- I'll tell you what, we'll get you to do this. Go.- Uh...

0:21:30 > 0:21:34- Oh, no. You made it look so easy. Come on.- Stick it right in there.

0:21:34 > 0:21:36Ooh! Always stay safe around fire.

0:21:36 > 0:21:39If you haven't got Bear to help, make sure you grab a grown-up.

0:21:39 > 0:21:40- Yes!- We've done it.

0:21:40 > 0:21:44OK, now we get this onto it and then we get the kindling.

0:21:44 > 0:21:48Now, all fires need three things. It's called the fire triangle.

0:21:50 > 0:21:53If you don't have one of those things, the fire, like you,

0:21:53 > 0:21:55- is going to die.- OK.

0:21:55 > 0:21:58So, this has the heat, which came from our initial spark,

0:21:58 > 0:22:02the fuel, in all this nice wood, and the reason we do this

0:22:02 > 0:22:05crisscross like a square is that it keeps the oxygen going in.

0:22:05 > 0:22:08- Only one thing for it. I think we need a cup of tea.- Yes!

0:22:08 > 0:22:10Cheers!

0:22:10 > 0:22:13We're going to do something now that I like to call Grilling Bear Grylls.

0:22:18 > 0:22:21Blue Green Sparkly Acorn says, "What was your most frightening,

0:22:21 > 0:22:24"terrifying, heart-thumping experience?"

0:22:24 > 0:22:28Probably when I broke my back in a free-fall parachuting accident.

0:22:28 > 0:22:29Should've died but survived.

0:22:29 > 0:22:32Lived to tell the tale. Blue Netball Elephant says,

0:22:32 > 0:22:34"What was the naughtiest thing you ever did at school?"

0:22:34 > 0:22:37Probably the naughtiest was putting somebody's

0:22:37 > 0:22:39underpants on the top of the school flagpole.

0:22:39 > 0:22:41- It was at the very top and it was very high.- Oh, no.

0:22:41 > 0:22:45- Did you get told off?- Well, they never found out who it was.

0:22:45 > 0:22:46Oh, well, they know now.

0:22:46 > 0:22:49Amber Leaping Lemur says, "If you were an animal, what would it be?"

0:22:49 > 0:22:53I'd quite like to be my dog because he has the most nice, relaxed life.

0:22:53 > 0:22:56Lies on his back and gets his tummy scratched, you know.

0:22:56 > 0:23:01But in the wild, probably an eagle, just for sheer fun of flying.

0:23:01 > 0:23:02Beryl Tiny Apricot says,

0:23:02 > 0:23:07- "What is the most disgusting thing you've eaten?"- Probably elephant poo,

0:23:07 > 0:23:09er, in the wilds of Kenya once.

0:23:09 > 0:23:11Why did you do that?

0:23:11 > 0:23:14You can drink the juice out of elephant dung because they have

0:23:14 > 0:23:17such fast digestions, it's almost sterile when it comes out.

0:23:17 > 0:23:19It just might save your life, Lindsey, don't forget it!

0:23:19 > 0:23:20I'll bear it in mind.

0:23:20 > 0:23:24And last but not least, Cream Smiling Condor says, "Which animal or

0:23:24 > 0:23:28"insect are you scared of?" Is there anything Bear Grylls is scared of?

0:23:28 > 0:23:31I'm careful of the tarantulas because their hairs can kill you.

0:23:31 > 0:23:34If you don't cook that tarantula well enough and swallow it

0:23:34 > 0:23:36and it's still got some of those hairs, it will kill you.

0:23:36 > 0:23:39I love that you said, "cook." I was expecting you to say just hold

0:23:39 > 0:23:42or look at one but you're giving me tips on how to cook a tarantula.

0:23:42 > 0:23:43I've eaten loads of tarantulas!

0:23:43 > 0:23:45They're delicious if you burn them enough.

0:23:45 > 0:23:47Hmm, again, I'm going to leave that one to you.

0:23:47 > 0:23:49Bear, thank you so much.

0:23:49 > 0:23:51It's been really good fun and thanks for the den!

0:23:51 > 0:23:54You're probably not going to want to spend any more time camping

0:23:54 > 0:23:56- after that now.- No.

0:23:56 > 0:23:58Hands up, who's building a den when they get home later on?

0:23:58 > 0:24:00AUDIENCE: Me! Me!

0:24:00 > 0:24:01- So much fun.- Sold.

0:24:01 > 0:24:03Well, that is all we've got time for today

0:24:03 > 0:24:05but before we hear a performance from Union J, there is

0:24:05 > 0:24:09- just enough time to see what's coming up on next week's show. It's special.- It is.

0:24:09 > 0:24:10I'm going to Switzerland to look

0:24:10 > 0:24:13back at some of the extreme challenges we've taken on

0:24:13 > 0:24:16and telling you about some exciting adventures we've got coming up.

0:24:16 > 0:24:19But now, throw your hands in the air like you just don't care

0:24:19 > 0:24:21because there's some really cool guys just over there.

0:24:21 > 0:24:23It's their latest single.

0:24:23 > 0:24:26It's their latest single, Tonight We Live Forever, it's Union J!

0:24:39 > 0:24:43# Feels like a party every time you come around

0:24:43 > 0:24:47# Even though it's just the two of us in my house
