6:30:55 > 6:30:57Whoa! Hello, sunshine.
6:30:57 > 6:30:59Someone else getting into the spirit of it is Shelley.
6:30:59 > 6:31:01She's dressed up like a dragon today.
6:31:01 > 6:31:03She's going to be hiding somewhere in this show.

6:31:37 > 6:31:39She's going to get a brother or sister.
6:31:39 > 6:31:41I think she's extremely excited.
6:31:41 > 6:31:44Every morning we get up and she wants to see the baby,
6:31:44 > 6:31:47she wants to kiss it, sing to it, give it a cuddle.
6:31:47 > 6:31:49- It's the sweetest thing ever. - What a start to the day.
6:31:49 > 6:31:50I like the sound of that.
6:31:50 > 6:31:52Now, everyone watching will go, "Oh, my goodness,
6:31:52 > 6:31:56"that's Kimberly Wyatt, judge of Taking The Next Step." Of course.
6:31:56 > 6:31:58But today, you're kind of here for another reason,

6:32:04 > 6:32:07I've wanted to have my own book since I was about 17 years old.
6:32:07 > 6:32:09So this is kind of like a performer's guide to success,
6:32:09 > 6:32:12as well as just serious entertainment.
6:32:12 > 6:32:14About the World Elite Dance Academy.
6:32:14 > 6:32:17First book is available today, called Billie's Big Audition.
6:32:17 > 6:32:18It's out today.
6:32:18 > 6:32:20We like the sound of that. So, what exactly is it all about?
6:32:20 > 6:32:22And was it tough to write your first book?
6:32:22 > 6:32:24It is tough to write a first book.
6:32:24 > 6:32:27Dance has been my absolute obsession and passion my whole life.
6:32:27 > 6:32:30But wanting to get my stories out has been a big one as well.
6:32:30 > 6:32:32So this one is about Billie Edmonds.
6:32:32 > 6:32:34She wants to become part of the World Elite Dance Academy,
6:32:34 > 6:32:36it's her big dream.
6:32:36 > 6:32:37But she's got to get over the nerves,
6:32:37 > 6:32:40she's got to battle the pressures, and she's got to really go for it.
6:32:40 > 6:32:43It sounds good. I'm going to read it later, I might just take a copy.
6:32:43 > 6:32:45So, you've had a baby. You've written a book.
6:32:45 > 6:32:47It seems like there's no stopping you.
6:32:47 > 6:32:50And you're a judge for Taking The Next Step, series two.
6:32:50 > 6:32:54Which we're actually filming at the moment with Sam and Mark, aren't we?
6:32:54 > 6:32:55It's just the best thing.
6:32:55 > 6:32:57Now, we love an exclusive on Blue Peter,
6:32:57 > 6:33:00so I had a little cheeky word with the producers.
6:33:00 > 6:33:02I was like, "Please can we see a little first look of
6:33:02 > 6:33:05- "Taking The Next Step?" - Do we have it?- We might have it.
6:33:05 > 6:33:08Check this out.
6:33:08 > 6:33:12# I just came to say goodbye
6:33:12 > 6:33:16# I'm in the corner Watching you kiss here
6:33:16 > 6:33:20# Oh, oh, oh... #
6:33:20 > 6:33:21- APPLAUSE - You've got loads of tricks.
6:33:21 > 6:33:24Tons of nice core strength,
6:33:24 > 6:33:27you really know how to hold your moves and have moments.
6:33:27 > 6:33:29And is there anything on the floor?
6:33:30 > 6:33:33Because you were looking at the floor the whole time!
6:33:33 > 6:33:34You've got to look up.
6:33:34 > 6:33:36If you're in my class, I would be in your face, yelling,
6:33:36 > 6:33:38"Look up, look up, look up!"
6:33:38 > 6:33:40You've got to really perform out, OK?
6:33:42 > 6:33:44Oh, did he get through, though?
6:33:44 > 6:33:47You can find out in autumn, when the series is out.
6:33:47 > 6:33:49- I cannot wait for that.- I'm excited.
6:33:49 > 6:33:50In the meantime, Kimbo,
6:33:50 > 6:33:54we told our viewers you were on last week, and they got very excited.
6:33:54 > 6:33:57And we were inundated with amazing dance videos that Blue Peter
6:33:57 > 6:34:00fans have sent in. Would you like to look at some of them?
6:34:00 > 6:34:03- And maybe give a bit of feedback? - I would love to.
6:34:03 > 6:34:06I need all the dancing tips I can get, by the way.
6:34:06 > 6:34:08This first one is from Brodie, let's have a look.
6:34:10 > 6:34:13Hi, I'm Brodie, I like street dancing, especially the wave.
6:34:19 > 6:34:23It's the dab at the end. A quick kitchen dab, that's what we like.
6:34:23 > 6:34:24What did you make of that?
6:34:24 > 6:34:28I mean, Brodie is ultimate coolness in the kitchen, very cool.
6:34:28 > 6:34:31His waves are really fantastic, he's got series moves.
6:34:31 > 6:34:34I would say, just slow it down a bit.
6:34:34 > 6:34:37Really go for every single joint that you've got through your
6:34:37 > 6:34:41- wave and practice it slow.- I feel I look like a stupid robot.
6:34:41 > 6:34:44- Because then you can pass it.- Whoa!
6:34:44 > 6:34:48There we go, nice one. Next we've got Vinara having a little jig.
6:34:48 > 6:34:50Let's have a look at this.
6:34:50 > 6:34:53Hi, my name is Vinara. I love Latin dancing.
6:35:01 > 6:35:04- I'm into that. His beautiful hands. - I love him!
6:35:04 > 6:35:06Any advice or feedback, Kim?
6:35:06 > 6:35:09I mean, the confidence is infectious, he's amazing.
6:35:09 > 6:35:11He holds his frame fantastically.
6:35:11 > 6:35:14I think, just keep going, I love what I see. Just do more.
6:35:14 > 6:35:18And he's got a dance floor in his living room, which is very cool.
6:35:18 > 6:35:21Let's have a look at Emily tapping away.
6:35:21 > 6:35:25Hi, I'm Emily, and I love tap dancing because it makes me happy.
6:35:25 > 6:35:26These are double-time steps.
6:35:32 > 6:35:36Emily, I couldn't keep up. I was into that. Tap is tough, isn't it?
6:35:36 > 6:35:38Tap is tough.
6:35:38 > 6:35:40But Emily has really super-strong ankles and feet,
6:35:40 > 6:35:43she's got clear taps, it looks amazing.
6:35:43 > 6:35:46Just work on the timing of those rhythms.
6:35:46 > 6:35:48When you do a basic time step, the rhythm goes,
6:35:48 > 6:35:52da-da, da-da-da, da-da, da-da, da-da-da...
6:35:52 > 6:35:55Dab, dab. Hope I helped. This is Daniel.
6:35:57 > 6:36:01Hi, I'm Daniel, and I like dancing to Can't Stop The Feeling.
6:36:01 > 6:36:04# I got that sunshine in my pocket Got that good soul in my feet
6:36:04 > 6:36:09# I feel that hot blood in my body when it drops... #
6:36:09 > 6:36:11Can you give me some new moves?
6:36:12 > 6:36:13What a cutie.
6:36:13 > 6:36:16Our favourite bit was this, wasn't it? Woo, Daniel.
6:36:16 > 6:36:20- OK, so he needs new moves.- He's got brilliant musicality, by the way.
6:36:20 > 6:36:23- But we'll give him another move. - I'm going to join in.
6:36:23 > 6:36:29To finish it all off, he can do an out, cross, out, cross, turnaround.
6:36:29 > 6:36:33There you go, Daniel. I feel like you looked a little bit better.
6:36:33 > 6:36:37And then last but not least, we've got Bruno. Check this out.
6:36:37 > 6:36:41Hi, I'm Bruno. I like street dance, especially the move
6:36:41 > 6:36:44the butterfly kick. It's my favourite move.
6:36:44 > 6:36:45I'll show you it right now.
6:36:49 > 6:36:53- Yes.- Yay, Bruno!- He smashed that. Also, he's so confident.
6:36:53 > 6:36:56Bruno, come present with us. We love you. What did you make of that?
6:36:56 > 6:36:59I think Bruno is amazing, that butterfly kick was on point,
6:36:59 > 6:37:01well done, Bruno. Bring on some more.
6:37:01 > 6:37:04It doesn't get better than that, Kim saying you're on point, Bruno.
6:37:04 > 6:37:07So keep practising. If you want even more of Kim - who doesn't? -
6:37:07 > 6:37:10she's on the Blue Peter website. There it is.
6:37:10 > 6:37:13I like your face, it's lovely. Giving some of her dance tips.
6:37:13 > 6:37:17Kim, have you ever done parkour?
6:37:17 > 6:37:21- I've only done a touch, I did a wall spin, that's about it.- OK.
6:37:21 > 6:37:23Someone who gave it a go is Radzi, have a look at this.
6:37:25 > 6:37:28Parkour. Or free running as it's sometimes called.
6:37:28 > 6:37:29I know you've seen it.
6:37:29 > 6:37:33People running, jumping, flipping, somersaulting,
6:37:33 > 6:37:36climbing, to go from one place to another.
6:37:36 > 6:37:38And you know what, it looks well cool.
6:37:40 > 6:37:42Developed in France in the 1980s,
6:37:42 > 6:37:45parkour involves moving across obstacles
6:37:45 > 6:37:48using creativity and athleticism.
6:37:48 > 6:37:49For the first time,
6:37:49 > 6:37:53it's been recognised as an official sport in the UK.
6:37:53 > 6:37:58Which means it could start appearing in your PE lessons.
6:37:58 > 6:38:02I figured, if you guys are going to get to give it a go,
6:38:02 > 6:38:04I should try my hand, too.
6:38:04 > 6:38:09This is Alex Pownall, he's been practising since he was 15.
6:38:09 > 6:38:13So he's the perfect man to get me started at this parkour gym
6:38:13 > 6:38:17that's been specially set up so anyone can have a go safely.
6:38:17 > 6:38:20- Is it fun?- Yeah.- Is it exciting?
6:38:20 > 6:38:23- Yeah.- Is it scary?
6:38:23 > 6:38:26- Usually only if you're doing it wrong.- And why do you do it?
6:38:26 > 6:38:28Sometimes I just get bored of walking.
6:38:28 > 6:38:30- You've got me very, very intrigued.- Good.
6:38:30 > 6:38:33Well, let's get started, then, and I'll show you what it's all about.
6:38:33 > 6:38:34Bring it on.
6:38:34 > 6:38:38'Parkour is all about moving around whatever is in your way
6:38:38 > 6:38:41'as quickly and smoothly as possible.
6:38:41 > 6:38:43'So after a quick warm up,
6:38:43 > 6:38:46'we begin with a basic move called a step vault.'
6:38:46 > 6:38:47It uses the opposite hand and foot.
6:38:47 > 6:38:51You're going to place one hand on the box.
6:38:51 > 6:38:54And place the opposite foot on the top.
6:38:54 > 6:38:56Now, you're going to lift your hips and your leg is going to
6:38:56 > 6:38:58come through this space in the middle.
6:38:58 > 6:39:01And then with the weight on your hands and foot,
6:39:01 > 6:39:04- you're going to step off.- OK.
6:39:04 > 6:39:07That's a great example of something that looks really simple but
6:39:07 > 6:39:10might not be quite so easy to accomplish.
6:39:15 > 6:39:18Hip through.
6:39:21 > 6:39:23- OK, again.- 'I'm happy with that.
6:39:23 > 6:39:26'But then Alex has to go and make it harder.
6:39:26 > 6:39:30Now, the real tricky thing about parkour is that to be really, really
6:39:30 > 6:39:33good at it, you need to be able to do everything on both sides.
6:39:33 > 6:39:35I want you to do this with your other hand.
6:39:35 > 6:39:38- I was hoping you weren't going to say that.- Everybody does.
6:39:40 > 6:39:43'Using my weaker hand feels really strange.
6:39:43 > 6:39:46'And it's tougher to move smoothly over the vault.
6:39:46 > 6:39:51- 'But, I keep practising and slowly I pick it up.'- OK.
6:39:55 > 6:39:57That's better.
6:39:57 > 6:40:00'With the step vault sorted, it's time to try some other moves.'
6:40:00 > 6:40:05So, the most basic way to jump in parkour is with two feet,
6:40:05 > 6:40:07and from a standing position.
6:40:07 > 6:40:10So, I'm going to go onto the balls of my feet.
6:40:10 > 6:40:11Right, give it a shot.
6:40:14 > 6:40:17- Follow me.- How?- You'll figure it out.
6:40:17 > 6:40:19'But as we move onto the main parkour equipment,
6:40:19 > 6:40:21'it gets much harder.
6:40:21 > 6:40:25'With each different obstacle, I have to use different muscles.
6:40:25 > 6:40:27'And I'm constantly thinking to try and keep up.'
6:40:32 > 6:40:36I tell you what, this is so much harder work,
6:40:36 > 6:40:39but the best fun.
6:40:39 > 6:40:40Phew!
6:40:41 > 6:40:45That was absolutely brilliant. Thank you so much for that session.
6:40:45 > 6:40:48I'm really glad you enjoyed it, man. You did really great.
6:40:48 > 6:40:50Um, the only thing is, we're not really done.
6:40:50 > 6:40:53- OK, what's next?- Well, we've got this event on Sunday,
6:40:53 > 6:40:56- you see, and I'd love you to be there.- I'm up for that.- Awesome.
6:40:56 > 6:40:58What do we need to do?
6:40:58 > 6:41:01- Well, basically, we're just going to do a few vaults.- Amazing, how many?
6:41:01 > 6:41:03- A couple thousand.- What?!
6:41:04 > 6:41:07'Alex wants me to put my new skills to good use.
6:41:07 > 6:41:08'In a few days' time,
6:41:08 > 6:41:14'he and some other parkour fans are attempting to set a vaulting record.
6:41:14 > 6:41:15'And I'm taking part.'
6:41:17 > 6:41:20I do not want to let those guys down, and they're expecting
6:41:20 > 6:41:23a lot from somebody that's never done it before.
6:41:23 > 6:41:24Wish me luck.
6:41:25 > 6:41:30'But as the big day arrives, I find out what the record target is.'
6:41:30 > 6:41:33- Alex, great to see you again. - Radzi, hey, how's it going, man?
6:41:33 > 6:41:35Very, very well. What is going on today?
6:41:35 > 6:41:38Everyone in the room is trying to beat 10,000 vaults in an hour.
6:41:38 > 6:41:42- Well, I have been practising. - Good.- So, bring it on.
6:41:42 > 6:41:44'We'll be watched by a team of judges,
6:41:44 > 6:41:46'who will be counting as we go.
6:41:46 > 6:41:49'And if it's not a proper vault, it won't count.'
6:41:49 > 6:41:53Both hands, you can have feet on the side to help you. That's the vault.
6:41:55 > 6:41:59You don't have to use your feet on the box. But what we don't want...
6:42:00 > 6:42:04'OK. Better get this thing right, Radzi.'
6:42:04 > 6:42:07- Are you ready?!- ALL: Yes!
6:42:07 > 6:42:08KLAXON
6:42:11 > 6:42:15'The action is frantic, these guys don't hang around.
6:42:15 > 6:42:16'They're flying through the vaults.
6:42:18 > 6:42:21'As the minutes tick by, the pace doesn't slow.
6:42:21 > 6:42:24'The level of fitness parkour takes is incredible.'
6:42:30 > 6:42:32KLAXON
6:42:32 > 6:42:37'When our hour is up, we have no idea if we've hit 10,000 or not.'
6:42:37 > 6:42:41We did 9,877.
6:42:41 > 6:42:42GROANING
6:42:42 > 6:42:44Just on this side.
6:42:46 > 6:42:49The grand total, in one hour,
6:42:49 > 6:42:52was 18,247.
6:42:55 > 6:42:56Smashed it.
6:42:56 > 6:43:01To have played just a small part in that record attempt was brilliant.
6:43:01 > 6:43:05And to see these guys in action was an absolute privilege.
6:43:07 > 6:43:08That looked fun.
6:43:08 > 6:43:09I want to have a go.
6:43:09 > 6:43:12If you want to have a go, too, make sure you do get the proper training,
6:43:12 > 6:43:15or it can be dangerous. It is worth saying,
6:43:15 > 6:43:18it is just seven minutes to go until our dragon launch.
6:43:18 > 6:43:20- You excited, Kim?- Very!
6:43:20 > 6:43:23In the meantime, let's have a look at this week's big badge wall,
6:43:23 > 6:43:26covered in all your quite frankly beautiful posters.
6:43:26 > 6:43:27Looking good. Kim, what have you seen?
6:43:27 > 6:43:30Really good stuff. I am really feeling this graffiti up here
6:43:30 > 6:43:33by Calder. I've got a character in my WEDA series called Tilly
6:43:33 > 6:43:34who does graffiti.
6:43:34 > 6:43:36Calder, you have earned a Blue Peter badge.
6:43:36 > 6:43:38- Yes, my friend!- Tres cool.
6:43:38 > 6:43:40This has been designed by Jessica from Clapham.
6:43:40 > 6:43:43She saw Dean Leavy do the levitating table trick last week
6:43:43 > 6:43:46and she loved it. So much so that she's captured it forever in ink.
6:43:46 > 6:43:49Thank you very much, you have got yourself a Blue Peter badge.
6:43:49 > 6:43:50Guys, Amy is my hero.
6:43:50 > 6:43:53Not just cos she's got a silver badge, but have a look at this.
6:43:53 > 6:43:56If we open it up - it's 9.99, collector's item -
6:43:56 > 6:43:59there is a tiny little Lindsey Doll.
6:43:59 > 6:44:00- Spitting image!- It's amazing.
6:44:00 > 6:44:03Thank you so much(!) You're amazing. Well done.
6:44:03 > 6:44:04Send me a Barney doll.
6:44:04 > 6:44:06I want a life-size one, made out of chocolate.
6:44:06 > 6:44:08If you want to be creative and earn a Blue Peter badge,
6:44:08 > 6:44:10there is the address that you need.
6:44:10 > 6:44:12Get creative and send it. We'd love to hear from you.
6:44:12 > 6:44:14Amber did just that. She wrote us a letter.
6:44:14 > 6:44:15You can see her here, actually.
6:44:15 > 6:44:17She went to Kew Gardens, had a picnic, had a great time,
6:44:17 > 6:44:19and said, "You guys should do the same.
6:44:19 > 6:44:21"Why don't you do a programme about Kew Gardens?"
6:44:21 > 6:44:23Well, Amber, we've done even better.
6:44:23 > 6:44:25How about this competition launch?
6:44:32 > 6:44:34This is Kew Palace.
6:44:34 > 6:44:38Back in the 1700s, it was home to King George III,
6:44:38 > 6:44:40who sculpted the grounds to create what is now
6:44:40 > 6:44:42the Royal Botanic Gardens.
6:44:43 > 6:44:45The king filled it with objects,
6:44:45 > 6:44:48taking inspiration from around the world.
6:44:48 > 6:44:52And one of them was this tiny, miniature tower called a pagoda.
6:44:53 > 6:44:55Oh, no, it's just really...really far away.
6:44:57 > 6:44:59Comedy gold.
6:44:59 > 6:45:03The Great Pagoda is one of the most famous sights at Kew Gardens.
6:45:03 > 6:45:05Standing almost 50 metres high,
6:45:05 > 6:45:09it's an important example of Chinese architecture in Europe.
6:45:10 > 6:45:11It is a Grade I-listed building,
6:45:11 > 6:45:14which means it's thought to be of exceptional interest and
6:45:14 > 6:45:17national importance, so it needs to be protected.
6:45:19 > 6:45:22So a massive conservation project is underway to restore
6:45:22 > 6:45:25the pagoda back to its former glory.
6:45:25 > 6:45:28And the man in charge of doing that is Craig Hatto.
6:45:30 > 6:45:31- Hi, Craig, how are you?- Hello.
6:45:31 > 6:45:33Good to meet you.
6:45:33 > 6:45:34Now, how have you found yourself
6:45:34 > 6:45:37in charge of restoring this huge pagoda?
6:45:37 > 6:45:40Well, it's all down to Blue Peter.
6:45:40 > 6:45:41- Really?- Oh, yes.
6:45:41 > 6:45:44I should have known.
6:45:44 > 6:45:50In 1986, BP ran an architectural competition at York Minster.
6:45:50 > 6:45:52It was this that inspired Craig
6:45:52 > 6:45:54to become a top architect, and he now looks after
6:45:54 > 6:45:56all the royal palaces.
6:45:56 > 6:45:58You're welcome, your Majesty!
6:45:58 > 6:46:01Tell me why you think it's important that the pagoda is restored
6:46:01 > 6:46:04to look how it did in 1762.
6:46:04 > 6:46:07It would have been adorned with dragons rising 50 metres up
6:46:07 > 6:46:10into the air on each of the corners of the building.
6:46:10 > 6:46:13It would have been an unbelievable and remarkable sight to behold.
6:46:13 > 6:46:15In about 1780, the dragons came down,
6:46:15 > 6:46:18and it was probably because they were rotting,
6:46:18 > 6:46:22hard to maintain and they had fallen out of fashion.
6:46:22 > 6:46:23So they didn't replace them.
6:46:23 > 6:46:27And today, it is our job to put those dragons back on the building.
6:46:27 > 6:46:30- Well, shall we go and have a closer look?- OK.
6:46:31 > 6:46:35At one time, the dragons that decorated the pagoda
6:46:35 > 6:46:37were one of its most striking features.
6:46:37 > 6:46:40And with the restoration, they are coming back.
6:46:40 > 6:46:43But the project is set to take more than a year,
6:46:43 > 6:46:46so it really could drag-on!
6:46:47 > 6:46:48'I'm on fire today.'
6:46:50 > 6:46:53So to get an idea of what the dragons will look like,
6:46:53 > 6:46:56Craig has got a little trick up his sleeve.
6:46:56 > 6:46:59What we create is what is known as a profile test.
6:46:59 > 6:47:03With a profile test, it is the outline of a dragon to see
6:47:03 > 6:47:07how it looks in proportion on the building, so we do big cut-outs.
6:47:07 > 6:47:10- OK.- These are the examples of what we use for a profile test.
6:47:10 > 6:47:12You can see them all here. So you basically cut out
6:47:12 > 6:47:14- what they might look like...- Exactly.
6:47:14 > 6:47:15..and plonk it outside?
6:47:15 > 6:47:18Plonk it outside to look at its proportion and scale, and does
6:47:18 > 6:47:20it look right on the building?
6:47:20 > 6:47:23OK, should we get onto the balcony and see what it looks like?
6:47:23 > 6:47:24Oh, wow.
6:47:24 > 6:47:27This is a very cool way of testing it out.
6:47:27 > 6:47:29This is exactly where it is going to sit.
6:47:31 > 6:47:33When the 80 dragons are finished,
6:47:33 > 6:47:35they should look spectacular.
6:47:35 > 6:47:37What happens next?
6:47:37 > 6:47:40Well, to find out, you'll have to come to our workshops.
6:47:40 > 6:47:42Great. Um, I'll leave you on the roof.
6:47:44 > 6:47:4779 of the new designs will be created by Tim Crawley,
6:47:47 > 6:47:50who has made sketches for each one.
6:47:50 > 6:47:51And I've come to meet him.
6:47:51 > 6:47:53How are you doing?
6:47:53 > 6:47:57Talk me through - what was your inspiration for the original sketch?
6:47:57 > 6:48:01Well, I started off looking at the paintings of the actual building
6:48:01 > 6:48:03as it was made in 1760. Before the dragons disappeared.
6:48:03 > 6:48:08So there were some paintings that show them, but not in great detail.
6:48:08 > 6:48:11So I also had to look at stuff that was being done at the same period
6:48:11 > 6:48:12in other places.
6:48:12 > 6:48:15It was a time when people were interested in China.
6:48:15 > 6:48:19I then mixed together all the information that we found into
6:48:19 > 6:48:21a number of drawings.
6:48:21 > 6:48:23No two dragons will be the same,
6:48:23 > 6:48:27and most of them will be 3-D printed based on Tim's design.
6:48:27 > 6:48:29But some will be hand-carved.
6:48:29 > 6:48:33And if you thought I would miss out on the chance to give that a go,
6:48:33 > 6:48:35well, you don't know me at all!
6:48:35 > 6:48:38- And that's where you come in, isn't it, Paul?- It is.
6:48:38 > 6:48:39So what are we going to be doing today?
6:48:39 > 6:48:41This is a model.
6:48:41 > 6:48:43- This is not going to be the real thing...- Phew.
6:48:43 > 6:48:45..so it's all right for you to practise on,
6:48:45 > 6:48:47and it doesn't matter if we make mistakes. So go for it.
6:48:48 > 6:48:50- I don't want to ruin it. - You're not going to.
6:48:50 > 6:48:52I'm scared I'm doing too much.
6:48:52 > 6:48:54You're not doing very much at all yet.
6:48:54 > 6:48:55You've really got to go for it.
6:48:57 > 6:48:59I tell you what, it's harder than it looks.
6:49:00 > 6:49:02Oh, big old chunk.
6:49:02 > 6:49:04I like this tool. That needs to come right off?
6:49:04 > 6:49:07- That needs to come out. - Get off!
6:49:07 > 6:49:09Did you like that? I really went for it there.
6:49:09 > 6:49:11So if this is just the practice one,
6:49:11 > 6:49:13can I have a go at the wood one?
6:49:13 > 6:49:14Um...
6:49:14 > 6:49:17soon. Once you've had a little bit more practice.
6:49:17 > 6:49:19I'll put in a few more hours in.
6:49:19 > 6:49:22'Yeah, probably for the best, if I'm honest.'
6:49:22 > 6:49:25We've seen the designs that make all of the dragons
6:49:25 > 6:49:26for the refurbished pagoda.
6:49:26 > 6:49:29Well, 79 of them.
6:49:29 > 6:49:33"What about the 80th dragon?", I hear you ask.
6:49:33 > 6:49:35Well, this is the really cool part of the whole project.
6:49:37 > 6:49:38Cos this is where you come in.
6:49:40 > 6:49:42We're giving you the chance to design one of the dragons
6:49:42 > 6:49:47that will sit on the great pagoda and be seen by millions of people.
6:49:47 > 6:49:50That's right, your design will be part of an iconic
6:49:50 > 6:49:53royal building, and it doesn't get much cooler than that.
6:49:54 > 6:49:56And judging this amazing competition is
6:49:56 > 6:50:00a bestselling author who knows all about dragons.
6:50:00 > 6:50:04Hi, I'm Cressida Cowell, author and illustrator of the
6:50:04 > 6:50:06How to Train Your Dragon books.
6:50:06 > 6:50:10And I'm so happy to be a judge for this incredible competition.
6:50:10 > 6:50:14What we'd like you to do is to make up your own entirely original
6:50:14 > 6:50:18dragon, so you're not copying my dragons or anybody else's.
6:50:18 > 6:50:19Your own dragons.
6:50:19 > 6:50:23What I'm going to be looking for is very unique, original,
6:50:23 > 6:50:25creative ideas.
6:50:27 > 6:50:30This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to design
6:50:30 > 6:50:32a piece of history.
6:50:32 > 6:50:36It will be seen by millions of people from all over the world.
6:50:36 > 6:50:39And it's a chance to earn your orange Blue Peter badge.
6:50:39 > 6:50:41So what are you waiting for?
6:50:41 > 6:50:43Get designing your dragon now.
6:50:46 > 6:50:49That was a fine film, Lindsey Russell, I enjoyed it immensely.
6:50:49 > 6:50:51- Thanks so much.- If that's inspired you to draw some dragons
6:50:51 > 6:50:53for our competition, head to the website.
6:50:53 > 6:50:54A shot on camera, too, for you!
6:50:54 > 6:50:57All you've got to do is download this application form.
6:50:57 > 6:51:00It's three-parter. The first is simple and self-explanatory.
6:51:00 > 6:51:02You've just got to put your details in there.
6:51:02 > 6:51:04Then, the second bit, you've got to tell us about your dragon.
6:51:04 > 6:51:07Tell us how you came up with the idea, the name of the dragon
6:51:07 > 6:51:09and, more importantly, what superpowers your dragon would have.
6:51:09 > 6:51:12On the last page, you can see there, it is blank.
6:51:12 > 6:51:14That is where you draw your dragon design.
6:51:14 > 6:51:16- Thank you very much. - It's such a cool competition.
6:51:16 > 6:51:20Remember, your dragon needs to be the classic dragon shape.
6:51:20 > 6:51:23By that, I mean it has a body, a tail, wings and a mouth.
6:51:23 > 6:51:26- That's very important. - A mouth is very important.
6:51:26 > 6:51:29Another important bit of info is that it needs to be original.
6:51:29 > 6:51:32It needs to be your idea, something you have created out of nowhere.
6:51:32 > 6:51:33So no copying, cheaters.
6:51:33 > 6:51:35You've got to make sure that you don't use the BP logo
6:51:35 > 6:51:37or the BP ship or the presenters in your design as well.
6:51:37 > 6:51:40It'd be great to have a Lindsay dragon, but it just wouldn't work.
6:51:40 > 6:51:43Aw, that would be lovely. You need to use the correct postage.
6:51:43 > 6:51:44That's very important.
6:51:44 > 6:51:47You need to send us your dragon entries by...
6:51:49 > 6:51:52For example, re: postage... Stop laughing at me.
6:51:52 > 6:51:54I'm laughing at your work.
6:51:54 > 6:51:56If you're using an A4 envelope like this one with the
6:51:56 > 6:51:57address on the front,
6:51:57 > 6:52:00you need to make sure that you have a large stamp, otherwise
6:52:00 > 6:52:04you might be disqualified and not in a chance to win this amazing prize.
6:52:04 > 6:52:07- Good luck, peeps.- So you can't copy, but you can be inspired.
6:52:07 > 6:52:09Maybe by the new game on the BP website.
6:52:09 > 6:52:10It is a dragon quiz.
6:52:10 > 6:52:12- Go and check it out, it's really good.- Scary.
6:52:12 > 6:52:15Or you could find your inspiration from real life.
6:52:15 > 6:52:16- Bye.- Let's meet the man who's
6:52:16 > 6:52:19brought things into the studio that are like dragons.
6:52:19 > 6:52:21- Scott, so good to see you. - Barney, good to be back.
6:52:21 > 6:52:23Very good to have you back. Who's this cute little guy?
6:52:23 > 6:52:24A few treats for you today.
6:52:24 > 6:52:27Our first dragon-like animal is a crested gecko.
6:52:27 > 6:52:29The first thing that people usually notice, eyelashes.
6:52:29 > 6:52:31It's a girl, isn't it? It's got eyelashes.
6:52:31 > 6:52:33- Actually, it is a little boy.- Oh!
6:52:33 > 6:52:34But they all have these.
6:52:34 > 6:52:37They're not even eyelashes, just part of their spiky scales.
6:52:37 > 6:52:40They wouldn't need eyelashes because they don't even have eyelids.
6:52:40 > 6:52:42- They don't blink? - They don't blink.
6:52:42 > 6:52:44So they can't blink to make their eyes moist,
6:52:44 > 6:52:47so instead they have to be able to lick their eyeballs instead.
6:52:47 > 6:52:49If you have a little look at this clip...
6:52:49 > 6:52:51One of my favourite clips to be played on Blue Peter.
6:52:51 > 6:52:52Look at that!
6:52:52 > 6:52:55Imagine having no eyelids, licking your own eyeballs to keep them wet.
6:52:55 > 6:52:57- That is genius. - That's pretty gross, right?
6:52:57 > 6:53:01These guys have got other talents - they have a prehensile tail
6:53:01 > 6:53:03like a monkey so he can hold on by his tail.
6:53:03 > 6:53:04And even better than that, OK,
6:53:04 > 6:53:07these guys can cling on to pretty much anything.
6:53:07 > 6:53:09So they have minuscule fibres on each of their toes.
6:53:09 > 6:53:11They have about one billion on each toe.
6:53:11 > 6:53:13We have a shot of that as well.
6:53:13 > 6:53:16You'd have to have a pretty good microscope to be able to see them.
6:53:16 > 6:53:17That is the bottom of the feet?
6:53:17 > 6:53:20So they can climb up glass, they can climb on a ceiling.
6:53:20 > 6:53:22Scientists think that if they were upside down
6:53:22 > 6:53:25on a ceiling that you could hang about 40 kilos off.
6:53:25 > 6:53:26That is like a 12-year-old.
6:53:26 > 6:53:28It just so happens, we have a 12-year-old with us.
6:53:28 > 6:53:30Please welcome... No, can you imagine that?
6:53:30 > 6:53:32- That would be quite cool.- Thank you. - Next time.
6:53:32 > 6:53:34Next time, next one.
6:53:34 > 6:53:36- We'll pop him away. - These ones are weird.
6:53:36 > 6:53:38The next one is a little bit of an unusual one.
6:53:38 > 6:53:39It is an underwater dragon.
6:53:39 > 6:53:42So definitely not going to be breathing fire.
6:53:42 > 6:53:44But these are about as rare as a dragon.
6:53:44 > 6:53:46These are only found in one lake around Mexico,
6:53:46 > 6:53:48and they are critically endangered.
6:53:48 > 6:53:50That's the only place in the world to find them?
6:53:50 > 6:53:52Indeed. They are the axolotl.
6:53:52 > 6:53:55- They are beautiful things. - Pretty unusual, right?
6:53:55 > 6:53:57The axolotl is actually a type of salamander,
6:53:57 > 6:53:59and salamanders go through a process called metamorphosis
6:53:59 > 6:54:02where they start their lives as a tadpole with little furry gills.
6:54:02 > 6:54:03- Can you see them?- Yeah.
6:54:03 > 6:54:06Then they come out of the water later on in their life,
6:54:06 > 6:54:08and live on the land as a lizard-shaped animal.
6:54:08 > 6:54:10We actually have a clip of that happening, don't we?
6:54:10 > 6:54:12Where they lose their fins and then they decide to just
6:54:12 > 6:54:15walk... This isn't just because they feel like it?
6:54:15 > 6:54:17The axolotl is quite unusual.
6:54:17 > 6:54:20He actually spends his whole life in this tadpole stage instead,
6:54:20 > 6:54:22so he never actually grows up.
6:54:22 > 6:54:24He spends a whole life like this.
6:54:24 > 6:54:26- Even as babies, in this tadpole stage.- Wow.
6:54:26 > 6:54:28It is quite unusual, a whole life underwater.
6:54:28 > 6:54:30He has also got some superpowers, hasn't he?
6:54:30 > 6:54:31This is what I wanted to tell you -
6:54:31 > 6:54:33they have got an amazing talent.
6:54:33 > 6:54:35They can regrow parts of the body.
6:54:35 > 6:54:37If they lose a leg, part of their spine, brain,
6:54:37 > 6:54:38they just grow it back.
6:54:38 > 6:54:40Which is actually phenomenal, if you think about it.
6:54:40 > 6:54:42How can you regrow a body part?
6:54:42 > 6:54:45It makes them very interesting to scientists cos they think maybe they
6:54:45 > 6:54:48might hold the key to finding cures for diseases in humans - who knows?
6:54:48 > 6:54:50So, Scott, how do you follow a super animal like that?
6:54:50 > 6:54:53I thought the only way I could follow it is with a real dragon.
6:54:53 > 6:54:55We don't have real dragons. They don't exist, surely.
6:54:55 > 6:54:57Do they?
6:54:57 > 6:54:58Have we got a fire extinguisher?
6:54:58 > 6:55:01This is a frilled dragon from Australia.
6:55:01 > 6:55:03I love him. Her? Him? I can't tell.
6:55:03 > 6:55:05This is a little boy now.
6:55:05 > 6:55:07This is from a family of lizards called agamas,
6:55:07 > 6:55:09and they are commonly known as dragons.
6:55:09 > 6:55:12But no breathing fire. Instead, he has a different talent.
6:55:12 > 6:55:15- Can you see these flaps of skin around his head?- Yep.
6:55:15 > 6:55:17He can fire them out and make them stand up to make him look
6:55:17 > 6:55:21big and scary to help him to get away from predators, basically.
6:55:21 > 6:55:24We might have a little clip of that, because it's pretty impressive.
6:55:24 > 6:55:25There comes the bird.
6:55:25 > 6:55:28Out come the flaps of skin.
6:55:28 > 6:55:30With that split-second of confusing,
6:55:30 > 6:55:31he can run off away from predators.
6:55:31 > 6:55:33BARNEY LAUGHS
6:55:33 > 6:55:34That's even weirder, right?
6:55:34 > 6:55:35Never mind the skin flaps,
6:55:35 > 6:55:37they're going be too busy laughing to eat him.
6:55:37 > 6:55:39It's amazing. What a great run you've got.
6:55:39 > 6:55:41He doesn't just use them for getting away from predators -
6:55:41 > 6:55:43he uses it for courtship, but also
6:55:43 > 6:55:46for epic battles with other frilled lizards.
6:55:46 > 6:55:47Other frilled dragons.
6:55:47 > 6:55:50If we look at the clip, it's pretty good.
6:55:50 > 6:55:51Cue the orchestra.
6:55:51 > 6:55:54This is where you need a big sort of ambitious string section.
6:55:54 > 6:55:56# Dun-dun-dun dun-dun... #
6:55:56 > 6:55:57We don't have an orchestra - budget cuts -
6:55:57 > 6:55:59but I can do the impression myself. Beautiful!
6:55:59 > 6:56:01What an incredible creature.
6:56:01 > 6:56:03- Pretty awesome, right? - Wouldn't want to get between them.
6:56:03 > 6:56:05They seem to mean business. He's friendly.
6:56:05 > 6:56:07Sorry he's not frilled-up, but it's probably for the best.
6:56:07 > 6:56:11- Scott, always a pleasure. Thank you. - Cheers, Barney. Thank you, man.

6:56:27 > 6:56:28- No!- I'm only joking.
6:56:28 > 6:56:31- I'm not fiery. - No, you're more like a lizard.
