6:30:01 > 6:30:03I have a question. What would you like from today's show?

6:30:03 > 6:30:05Like to see Lindsey and I race horse carriages?

6:30:05 > 6:30:08Would you like to know how to make your very own tin face tidy?

6:30:08 > 6:30:11I like that! Would you like to know how to make your very own comet?

6:30:11 > 6:30:14You would? I'm glad you said yes, cos it's all happening

6:30:14 > 6:30:16- on today's live Blue Peter. Here's a whooshy ship.- Wow!

6:30:31 > 6:30:33CHEERING

6:30:36 > 6:30:39We do like a cheer on cue. How are you? You're watching Blue Peter.

6:30:39 > 6:30:42- Hello.- Hello! Barney, are you here? - I'm here.- I'm definitely here.- Yes.

6:30:42 > 6:30:45- Somebody else who isn't. - Oh, yeah, um, Linda.- Er...

6:30:45 > 6:30:49- Louise?- Lily!- Lily! Lily's not here. Sorry, we're doing this,

6:30:49 > 6:30:52- because we know Lindsey's watching. Hi, Lindsey, miss you!- We do indeed.

6:30:52 > 6:30:55She's actually on an adventure and we get to see that very soon.

6:30:55 > 6:30:58At this part of the show, we say, "Welcome, here's what's coming up!"

6:30:58 > 6:31:01But, today, we don't know what's happening at the end of the show,

6:31:01 > 6:31:04because it's not just the producers in charge of what's happening.

6:31:04 > 6:31:07- Isn't that right?- Yes, the end of today's show is down to you!

6:31:07 > 6:31:11- You get to vote for...- Him as well! - You?- Yeah!- Good to see you, mate!

6:31:11 > 6:31:13So you get to vote for one of your three favourite films.

6:31:13 > 6:31:15They're also my favourite films.

6:31:15 > 6:31:18You get to see either myself and Lindsey singing with Pentatonix...

6:31:18 > 6:31:19# ..killed the radio star. #

6:31:19 > 6:31:20HARMONISING

6:31:20 > 6:31:23'..or the film where I blow a building up.'

6:31:23 > 6:31:25Yeah!

6:31:25 > 6:31:28'Or maybe you'd like to see me train Ziggy the police dog again.

6:31:28 > 6:31:29'All you've got to do is get in touch.'

6:31:29 > 6:31:33Make your votes count and jump onto the Blue Peter website, which is...

6:31:36 > 6:31:40..and the film with the most votes, we'll play later on in the show.

6:31:40 > 6:31:42And while you're there - I got my own shot! Exciting! -

6:31:42 > 6:31:45why don't you leave a message about today's burning question? Radzi?

6:31:45 > 6:31:48If you could be in charge for the day, what would you do?

6:31:48 > 6:31:52You could be in charge of anything, the world, or the country,

6:31:52 > 6:31:55- or your school. If I was in charge, I'd be in charge of transport.- OK.

6:31:55 > 6:31:58I would get rid of all of it, so no cars, bikes,

6:31:58 > 6:32:00instead you've got to travel by jet.

6:32:00 > 6:32:03- I like that, but what about, instead of cars and bikes...- Yeah?

6:32:03 > 6:32:06..we change the land transport for hovercrafts?

6:32:06 > 6:32:07- Love what you're doing there.- Yes.

6:32:07 > 6:32:10Get in touch, usual details, Blue Peter website,

6:32:10 > 6:32:12and we'll try and read out as many of your comments later on.

6:32:12 > 6:32:14We know you love to get in touch.

6:32:14 > 6:32:16We have proof! Look at all the stuff you send us.

6:32:16 > 6:32:18It's an amazing thing to open the post at the start of the week

6:32:18 > 6:32:21and see how much you care about the things we talk about

6:32:21 > 6:32:22and, if we do a little slow-mo shot,

6:32:22 > 6:32:26you can probably see your shot just creeping in. Beautiful, thank you.

6:32:26 > 6:32:29- Barney, remember the hovercraft race we did last week?- I do.

6:32:29 > 6:32:33Tom from Hertfordshire captured that perfectly. Look at this picture!

6:32:33 > 6:32:36- That's you flying across the water, saying, "Weeee!"- Yeah.

6:32:36 > 6:32:37It was that fast.

6:32:37 > 6:32:40And there's me in the fence crashing out, going, "Hmmm!"

6:32:40 > 6:32:43And what's brilliant is that number seven is actually my lucky number

6:32:43 > 6:32:45and also the day of my birthday. I love it.

6:32:45 > 6:32:48Now, this here behind the big Blue Peter Badge wall

6:32:48 > 6:32:51has been sent in by Jamelia and it's actually the Channel Tunnel train.

6:32:51 > 6:32:54How cool is that? You've got windows there. And if you look inside,

6:32:54 > 6:32:57- you can see all the cars that are going over.- That's so good.

6:32:57 > 6:32:59So creative, all from recycled materials.

6:32:59 > 6:33:02Jamelia, not just the best name in the world, but so creative too.

6:33:02 > 6:33:04- Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm off to France.- Ha-ha!

6:33:04 > 6:33:08There was one picture I couldn't go without showing you, from Rebecca.

6:33:08 > 6:33:10She's 11 and she's made a Blue Peter board game.

6:33:10 > 6:33:13It says Start there, and if you look at box number seven, it says,

6:33:13 > 6:33:17"You've watched too much Blue Peter and forgotten to do your homework."

6:33:17 > 6:33:19Rebecca, I absolutely love that.

6:33:19 > 6:33:21Thank you to everyone who sent in anything in the post,

6:33:21 > 6:33:24whether it was on the big badge wall or not.

6:33:24 > 6:33:27Now, today is a very special day for any space scientists

6:33:27 > 6:33:31and, to explain more, is scientist Greg Foot with Barney.

6:33:33 > 6:33:35See, we like special effects to start an interview.

6:33:35 > 6:33:37Greg, always good to see you.

6:33:37 > 6:33:39I say that, it's not always good. Last time you were here,

6:33:39 > 6:33:42- you caused me a considerable discomfort.- Yeah, the chilli day.

6:33:42 > 6:33:45- Yeah, we're not doing that today? - No.- Talking about comets?- Yes.

6:33:45 > 6:33:49- Right, then. Why?- So, right now, 300 million miles away,

6:33:49 > 6:33:52- there's a spacecraft shooting through space.- Wow.

6:33:52 > 6:33:55It's called Rosetta and its mission is to track down

6:33:55 > 6:33:59a comet, a comet called 67P ChuryumovGerasimenko.

6:33:59 > 6:34:03- Got it.- Or just Comet CG.- That'll do for now.- Just call it that, OK.

6:34:03 > 6:34:05Its amazing mission, it's been going for ten years,

6:34:05 > 6:34:08it was launched ten years ago, it's been slingshotting

6:34:08 > 6:34:11around the Earth and Mars, out into space,

6:34:11 > 6:34:14with the idea of trying to land on top of this comet.

6:34:14 > 6:34:16So today is a very important day in that journey.

6:34:16 > 6:34:19ten years so far, but today marks a bit of a change for that journey?

6:34:19 > 6:34:23Yeah, if it kept going, it would just miss the comet completely.

6:34:23 > 6:34:26So today, they're doing a major rendezvous manoeuvre.

6:34:26 > 6:34:27- An MRM? Know it well.- Yeah.

6:34:27 > 6:34:29So they're going to change its route very slightly,

6:34:29 > 6:34:32so it can catch up with that comet and land on top.

6:34:32 > 6:34:34This isn't a comet travelling at a few miles an hour?

6:34:34 > 6:34:36These things are very, very fast?

6:34:36 > 6:34:38So Rosetta's going to have to match the speed,

6:34:38 > 6:34:40get alongside it or on top of it, and then land on the comet?

6:34:40 > 6:34:42- Mm-hm?- Why?

6:34:42 > 6:34:44It's amazing. It's an amazing mission.

6:34:44 > 6:34:47We've always been a little bit fearful of comets.

6:34:47 > 6:34:49For centuries, we've drawn pictures of us

6:34:49 > 6:34:51- cowering in front of these comets.- Yeah.

6:34:51 > 6:34:54Now we obviously know more about them, but we don't know everything.

6:34:54 > 6:34:57We don't know how old they are, we don't know where they came from.

6:34:57 > 6:35:00Do they come from inside the solar system? Outside the solar system?

6:35:00 > 6:35:02What we do know is that

6:35:02 > 6:35:05they're made of the same stuff as our early solar system.

6:35:05 > 6:35:08So, if we can land on top of it, work out what it's made of, then we

6:35:08 > 6:35:12may be able to unpick the origin, the evolution of the solar system.

6:35:12 > 6:35:14- It's a big event?- Really. - A big event in our history.

6:35:14 > 6:35:16You're going to try and recreate a comet?

6:35:16 > 6:35:19- You're going to try and make one from bits that are here?- I am.- OK.

6:35:19 > 6:35:22So half a comet is essentially water. So I'm going to pour some water in.

6:35:22 > 6:35:25This is what NASA do, by the way, kind of very similar.

6:35:25 > 6:35:28They actually make a model of a comet and do tests on it.

6:35:28 > 6:35:29So this is pretty accurate.

6:35:29 > 6:35:32Sort of like in a science lab when you do experiments on things?

6:35:32 > 6:35:35- This is the same thing, but trying to recreate a comet?- As you do.

6:35:35 > 6:35:37This is just soil, because the other half

6:35:37 > 6:35:38is pretty much organic material,

6:35:38 > 6:35:41dark organic material, like rock, rubble, that sort of thing.

6:35:41 > 6:35:45- Yeah.- There's lots of complex chemicals in a comet.

6:35:45 > 6:35:48- To represent that, I'm going to use soy sauce.- OK.- Of course.

6:35:48 > 6:35:51- There isn't soy sauce in a comet. - We're not going to eat it?- No.

6:35:51 > 6:35:54Definitely not. Especially when you see what I'm about to do to it.

6:35:54 > 6:35:56- So my complex chemicals.- Brilliant.

6:35:56 > 6:35:58- The next thing you need is some ammonia.- Yes.

6:35:58 > 6:36:00There's lots of ammonia in a comet. These are smelling salts.

6:36:00 > 6:36:03Yeah. Smelling salts are traditionally used

6:36:03 > 6:36:05to, um, to relieve the symptoms of a cold.

6:36:05 > 6:36:07It gets rid of the bogies in your nose.

6:36:07 > 6:36:09- But it smells very strong! - Yeah!- Very strong!

6:36:09 > 6:36:11- Also, when someone faints, it wakes them up!- It would!

6:36:11 > 6:36:13So that's all the ingredients.

6:36:13 > 6:36:16- The last ingredient is the dangerous one.- All right.- Put glasses on.

6:36:16 > 6:36:18I laugh in the face of danger.

6:36:18 > 6:36:21The last ingredient for a comet is frozen gas.

6:36:21 > 6:36:24Especially carbon dioxide. So I've got frozen carbon dioxide,

6:36:24 > 6:36:27it's called dry ice, so I'm going to pour this in here,

6:36:27 > 6:36:30- it's going to freeze everything up we've got in there.- Look at that!

6:36:30 > 6:36:34- Give it a huge stir as it's going. - It looks so cool! Ain't it wicked?

6:36:34 > 6:36:37You can see why they use it in sort of horror movies

6:36:37 > 6:36:39and Harry Potter and things like that?

6:36:39 > 6:36:40It looks so magical, doesn't it?

6:36:40 > 6:36:43- And this is just freezing what's inside effectively.- Yeah.

6:36:43 > 6:36:46We've got all the ingredients inside. Our comet will be ready very soon.

6:36:46 > 6:36:48OK, now, just in case you're wondering,

6:36:48 > 6:36:50you can't make this at home, it's too dangerous to make,

6:36:50 > 6:36:54but you can make your own version of a comet using edible stuff,

6:36:54 > 6:36:57like cookies and ice cream, so go to the Blue Peter website

6:36:57 > 6:36:59and you'll find a link on there

6:36:59 > 6:37:03and, when you taste it, it really is out of this world.

6:37:03 > 6:37:05Thank you very much. Thank you.

6:37:05 > 6:37:07So, our comet is almost ready.

6:37:07 > 6:37:09Let's establish the difference between

6:37:09 > 6:37:12asteroids, comets and meteorites. They're not all the same thing?

6:37:12 > 6:37:14No, they're all very subtly different. So this is a comet.

6:37:14 > 6:37:18It's a dusty snowball, or a snowy dustball, essentially.

6:37:18 > 6:37:20- Yeah.- Um, an asteroid is different.

6:37:20 > 6:37:22It's big, it's made of rock and metal, but it doesn't

6:37:22 > 6:37:26have a tail when it gets close to the sun, like this will have.

6:37:26 > 6:37:28- Also...- It's quite active in there, isn't it?

6:37:28 > 6:37:31- It's very active in there, in fact, making a bit of a mess.- I like that.

6:37:31 > 6:37:33That's what we like. And then you've got a meteoroid,

6:37:33 > 6:37:37which is like a smaller version of an asteroid, right? A meteoroid.

6:37:37 > 6:37:41- Yeah.- And then, if that goes down through our atmosphere and burns up,

6:37:41 > 6:37:44that's called a meteor. If it lands on the ground, a meteorite.

6:37:44 > 6:37:47I think I might leave that. I think this is probably pretty much done.

6:37:47 > 6:37:51- No TV presenters were hurt in the making of this comet.- Here it is.

6:37:51 > 6:37:53- So this is...- Wow!- ..our comet.

6:37:53 > 6:37:57This is what's known as a nucleus, so this is the bit, the hard bit

6:37:57 > 6:38:01in the centre of a comet. It's normally ten miles across.

6:38:01 > 6:38:04- You can see it's warming up, so we're getting bubbles all over it.- So cool!

6:38:04 > 6:38:08- Now, if that gets even closer to the sun...- Here's the sun.

6:38:08 > 6:38:11As it gets closer, you get jets of gas

6:38:11 > 6:38:14- and dust flying off from deep inside. - That is amazing!

6:38:14 > 6:38:18That forms a big cloud around it, known as a coma,

6:38:18 > 6:38:20which can be up to 60,000 miles across,

6:38:20 > 6:38:23- which is like eight times the size of the Earth.- Incredible!- It's huge!

6:38:23 > 6:38:25As it gets even closer to the sun,

6:38:25 > 6:38:27that whole cloud of dust starts interacting

6:38:27 > 6:38:31with the sun's atmosphere and you get a big tail shooting out the back.

6:38:31 > 6:38:34- And that's why you picture a comet with a tail.- You can see why people

6:38:34 > 6:38:36would want to land on it and see what it's made of and learn more.

6:38:36 > 6:38:38But there is another day to look out for?

6:38:38 > 6:38:42- Yeah, there is. So the big rendezvous manoeuvre is today.- Yeah.

6:38:42 > 6:38:45Then, in August, it's going to catch up with the comet.

6:38:45 > 6:38:48And in November, it's going to try and land on top of the comet.

6:38:48 > 6:38:50Amazing. And an amazing demonstration too.

6:38:50 > 6:38:52A round of applause for Greg! Brilliant.

6:38:52 > 6:38:55- APPLAUSE AND CHEERING - Thank you so much for coming in.

6:38:55 > 6:38:58Aw! What a legend Greg is!

6:38:58 > 6:39:01Now, if you want to find out more about everything outer space related,

6:39:01 > 6:39:04go on to the Blue Peter website, where we are going

6:39:04 > 6:39:07to upload this evening the very first of Greg's vlogs.

6:39:07 > 6:39:10This week's all about planets, in fact.

6:39:10 > 6:39:14- How cool was that, by the way? - Cool? It's freezing!

6:39:14 > 6:39:17Hang on! That was the ice cream I was going to use to make my comet!

6:39:17 > 6:39:20Well, it's a bit like a comet. Look how fast it's going.

6:39:20 > 6:39:22- Unbelievable, Barney! - I think I've got brain freeze!

6:39:22 > 6:39:23Serves you right!

6:39:25 > 6:39:28- Anyway, if you saw last week's... - It really hurts!- I hope it does.

6:39:28 > 6:39:31..last week's show, you'd have seen Lindsey and I in a hovercraft...

6:39:31 > 6:39:33Barney and I in a hovercraft race war.

6:39:33 > 6:39:36This week, it's Lindsey and I going head-to-head

6:39:36 > 6:39:38and this has real horsepower.

6:39:38 > 6:39:42- Can someone rub my head, please? - Get me another spoon!- No, it's mine!

6:39:42 > 6:39:44APPLAUSE

6:39:44 > 6:39:46Welcome to the Royal Windsor Horse Show.

6:39:46 > 6:39:50A world-famous event where some of the best horses and riders come

6:39:50 > 6:39:54from all over the globe to display in front of thousands of spectators.

6:39:54 > 6:39:58'Crowds gather here in the grounds of Windsor Castle

6:39:58 > 6:40:01'to see a range of events. But one of the most popular

6:40:01 > 6:40:04'is the fast and furious sport of carriage driving.'

6:40:04 > 6:40:06It's pretty extreme!

6:40:06 > 6:40:08So you'll understand why we were more than a little bit surprised

6:40:08 > 6:40:11when we found out they were going to let us two amateurs have a go.

6:40:11 > 6:40:14Lucky for us, Blue Peter had set up a bit of training.

6:40:14 > 6:40:16'A month ago, we headed to Essex

6:40:16 > 6:40:21'to be put through our paces by top carriage driver Wilf Bowman-Ripley.'

6:40:21 > 6:40:23- Hi, Wilf.- Hi there. - How are you doing?

6:40:23 > 6:40:25- Good to meet you.- You as well.

6:40:25 > 6:40:28Now, where do we start with learning how to do this today?

6:40:28 > 6:40:30- We have Grace, who's one of our top juniors.- Hello.

6:40:30 > 6:40:33And she's going to demonstrate to you how it's done.

6:40:33 > 6:40:36'Carriage driving is all about precision.

6:40:36 > 6:40:39'Navigating through tight spaces as quickly as possible.'

6:40:39 > 6:40:42What happens if the drivers aren't too skilled?

6:40:42 > 6:40:44Well, you've got a very good instructor.

6:40:44 > 6:40:45LAUGHTER

6:40:47 > 6:40:49'But before we're allowed on a carriage,

6:40:49 > 6:40:51'Wilf wants to walk us through the basics.'

6:40:51 > 6:40:54If you want to turn left a little bit, you pull your left rein.

6:40:54 > 6:40:56And how hard do you have to pull?

6:40:56 > 6:40:59- How much do the horses respond to what you're doing?- You'll find out.

6:40:59 > 6:41:02It depends what the horses come out like. They're different every day.

6:41:02 > 6:41:05It depends what mood they got out of bed this morning.

6:41:05 > 6:41:07- I hope mine got up in a good mood. - Yeah.

6:41:07 > 6:41:10'This is beginning to sound a bit tricky.

6:41:10 > 6:41:13'And it looks a lot trickier when we see what we'll be in charge of.'

6:41:13 > 6:41:15Have you seen the size of those things, Linds?

6:41:15 > 6:41:18- I'm convinced this is a joke. - It's got to be a joke.

6:41:18 > 6:41:20What?

6:41:20 > 6:41:21BOTH: Whoa!

6:41:23 > 6:41:26'These are big horses and big carriages.

6:41:26 > 6:41:29'There's only one way to find out if we're up to it.

6:41:29 > 6:41:30'I'm on Wilf's carriage.

6:41:30 > 6:41:32'And I'm being trained by Dan.'

6:41:32 > 6:41:36- Dan, it's the dream team. - This is the winning team.- Ooh!

6:41:36 > 6:41:38Hat on. Safety first.

6:41:38 > 6:41:40- This is the reins.- OK.

6:41:40 > 6:41:43- Oh, we're off.- We're off. - Given the reins, good.

6:41:43 > 6:41:45Ooh, where am I going?

6:41:45 > 6:41:46Trot on.

6:41:48 > 6:41:51'After a few minutes of driving, I'm beginning to get the hang of it,

6:41:51 > 6:41:54'which is more than can be said of Radzi.'

6:41:54 > 6:41:56Left, left! Easy, boy!

6:41:59 > 6:42:02'Now it's time to see how we're really getting on,

6:42:02 > 6:42:06'so Wilf wants us each to complete a timed lap of the course.'

6:42:08 > 6:42:11This is exquisite from Russell.

6:42:11 > 6:42:13Well done. Go on.

6:42:14 > 6:42:17'Right. My go.'

6:42:18 > 6:42:21There you go, boys.

6:42:22 > 6:42:24Oh! What's he doing?

6:42:24 > 6:42:26D'oh-argh!

6:42:26 > 6:42:29Ooh! Looks like you hit a cone there, Radzi.

6:42:29 > 6:42:30SHE GIGGLES

6:42:30 > 6:42:34So, Lindsey, your time was 2:49:59.

6:42:34 > 6:42:37And, Radzi, your time was 3:19:63.

6:42:37 > 6:42:39- No!- Yes!

6:42:39 > 6:42:41- We are the winners. - No way!- Fantastic result.

6:42:41 > 6:42:43- We were faster! - You were a minute over!

6:42:43 > 6:42:45Radzi, you demolished the course.

6:42:46 > 6:42:49'Back at Windsor, we're making our final preparations

6:42:49 > 6:42:52'before it's our turn to drive in front of thousands.'

6:42:53 > 6:42:56So, it's pretty fair to say I've got some work to do,

6:42:56 > 6:42:58but fortunately, I do have a fantastic trainer.

6:42:58 > 6:43:01Dan, do you think I can beat Lindsey?

6:43:01 > 6:43:04I think, if we do the basics correct, the speed will follow.

6:43:04 > 6:43:07- We've got a good chance. - Well, Lindsey, you heard it here.

6:43:07 > 6:43:09You may have smashed me in the practice,

6:43:09 > 6:43:10but it's all about the competition.

6:43:10 > 6:43:13Radzi, I don't think you've got a chance, mate.

6:43:13 > 6:43:16- You might have a big horse, but we have the skill, haven't we?- Yes.

6:43:16 > 6:43:18And how many people are watching us do this?

6:43:18 > 6:43:20There could be a couple of thousand people today.

6:43:20 > 6:43:23- That's quite a lot of people, isn't it...- A lot of people, yeah.

6:43:23 > 6:43:26- ..to embarrass myself in front of. - THEY LAUGH

6:43:26 > 6:43:29Do you know what? I think we've got this. We're both competitive.

6:43:29 > 6:43:32- Exactly.- I think we'll smash it. Let's go.- Boom!- Go, team!

6:43:32 > 6:43:35'It's nearly time for us to have a go, Linds.'

6:43:35 > 6:43:37- Radz,- how you feeling? Um...

6:43:37 > 6:43:41I'm feeling like I'm about to do something that I'm unequipped to do,

6:43:41 > 6:43:44but I'm going to give it everything I've got to get around this course.

6:43:44 > 6:43:48You know, now that we're here, I'm genuinely scared. Are you?

6:43:48 > 6:43:50- Ooh-argh!- Ooh!

6:43:50 > 6:43:52That's, er... That's what they call good luck.

6:43:52 > 6:43:55'Yeah, looks like the horse is a bit nervous too, Radzi.'

6:43:57 > 6:44:00'We'll be attempting to drive our carriages through the water

6:44:00 > 6:44:03'and in and out of these obstacles.

6:44:03 > 6:44:05'The person with the quickest time wins.'

6:44:05 > 6:44:08Go for it. Go, Radzi! Go, Radzi!

6:44:10 > 6:44:13- Right, right, right, right. - Go right.- Go, go, go.

6:44:13 > 6:44:16He's gone the wrong way. I think Radzi's just gone the wrong way.

6:44:16 > 6:44:17I'm pretty sure. I don't know.

6:44:17 > 6:44:19But I'm sure you're meant to go through the water.

6:44:19 > 6:44:23Radzi's gone the long way round! Radzi's gone the long way round!

6:44:23 > 6:44:27'OK, not a great start, but maybe I can recover in the obstacles.'

6:44:27 > 6:44:28Left, left, left!

6:44:30 > 6:44:33'Oops! Wrong way again!

6:44:34 > 6:44:36'And again!'

6:44:36 > 6:44:37CHEERING

6:44:43 > 6:44:45Whoa!

6:44:45 > 6:44:47- Good job.- Oh!

6:44:47 > 6:44:49Radzi, how was it?

6:44:49 > 6:44:53I forgot everything, Linds. We'll call it the scenic view.

6:44:53 > 6:44:55Only the cool cats take the scenic view, Linds!

6:44:55 > 6:44:58- Did you go the wrong way?- Oh, yeah. - Are we going? Oh, we're going.

6:44:58 > 6:45:01- Oh, no, this is it.- Good luck! - I don't want to do this any more!

6:45:01 > 6:45:02Oh, no, I do. Come on.

6:45:02 > 6:45:04OK, we're going to the right?

6:45:07 > 6:45:08Whoa!

6:45:08 > 6:45:12Oh, ha-ha! Lindsey did it like I was supposed to do it!

6:45:12 > 6:45:14CHEERING

6:45:14 > 6:45:18'This really is a lot harder than it looks.'

6:45:20 > 6:45:22- CHEERING - Whoa!

6:45:26 > 6:45:31- Ah!- 'Oh, dear! She's making this all look a bit easy.'

6:45:31 > 6:45:35Yey! That was so fun!

6:45:35 > 6:45:37Well done, horses!

6:45:37 > 6:45:39That was so fun!

6:45:42 > 6:45:45Laps completed, but how did we get on?

6:45:45 > 6:45:49Radzi, your time was 149.66 seconds.

6:45:49 > 6:45:51That has got winning written all over it.

6:45:51 > 6:45:53Lindsey's time was 101...

6:45:53 > 6:45:55- CHEERING - We won it!

6:45:55 > 6:45:59- Radzi, when it comes to you versus me...- Yes?

6:45:59 > 6:46:02..I think I remain unbeaten at this point.

6:46:02 > 6:46:05- Not strictly true, Lindsey. Stone skipping.- Less chat.

6:46:05 > 6:46:08- I came to win and we won, didn't we, Wilf?- We won.- Fair and square.

6:46:12 > 6:46:14Stone skipping doesn't quite count,

6:46:14 > 6:46:17which means that Lindsey is the rein-ing champion?

6:46:17 > 6:46:19You know, rein for the horse? No? OK, I've got another one.

6:46:19 > 6:46:23- She might not be the champion "furlong".- Ooh!

6:46:23 > 6:46:25Furlong, because of the... No? All right, hold your horses!

6:46:25 > 6:46:29Um, I'm just trying to "stirrup" some emotion?

6:46:29 > 6:46:30Yeah, can you send me some horse jokes?

6:46:30 > 6:46:34Apparently, I'm not very good at it. But now over to my neigh-bour.

6:46:34 > 6:46:37OK, I'm going home. Radzi, it's all yours.

6:46:37 > 6:46:40Less horseplay, Barney. It's time for some serious business.

6:46:40 > 6:46:42But first, take a look at this.

6:46:44 > 6:46:47'Have you ever had this problem?

6:46:47 > 6:46:51'Do you want to have a cleaner, tidier space to do your homework?

6:46:51 > 6:46:53'Then fear not!

6:46:53 > 6:46:57'We're going to show you how to make the tin face desk tidy

6:46:57 > 6:46:59'to solve all of your problems...

6:47:00 > 6:47:04'..and better still, it's made out of recycled materials!'

6:47:08 > 6:47:12Ha-ha! And to help us make that desk tidy, we have with us

6:47:12 > 6:47:15Thomas, Hayley, Owen and Kaylin! Give them a huge Blue Peter welcome!

6:47:15 > 6:47:17CHEERING Yes!

6:47:17 > 6:47:19Welcome to Blue Peter.

6:47:19 > 6:47:23Now, Hayley, I've seen a picture... that you guys made an eco-man.

6:47:23 > 6:47:25Can you tell us a little bit about that?

6:47:25 > 6:47:30Um, we outlined our caretaker on some card

6:47:30 > 6:47:32and he used some chicken wire and stapled it on.

6:47:32 > 6:47:35Here it is here. Look at that!

6:47:35 > 6:47:37Then we put some, um, recycle...

6:47:37 > 6:47:39Then we put recycle bins in every class

6:47:39 > 6:47:42and collected all the recycled waste and, um,

6:47:42 > 6:47:44put it in the recycle man until we filled him up.

6:47:44 > 6:47:47Well, it is fantastic and you guys are now proudly

6:47:47 > 6:47:49all wearing your green Blue Peter badges. I love that.

6:47:49 > 6:47:54What do we need in order to make this beautiful desk tidy?

6:47:54 > 6:47:56We use...

6:47:56 > 6:47:59We use a washed and used tin.

6:47:59 > 6:48:02So a washed and used tin, Thomas. Perfect. What about you, Hayley?

6:48:02 > 6:48:05- Some sticky back magnet tape. - Perfect.

6:48:05 > 6:48:07And for the decorations, Owen, what do we need?

6:48:07 > 6:48:11- Straw and buttons. - Perfect! And Kaylin?

6:48:11 > 6:48:14- Old stationery and ringpulls. - Absolutely. And just be a little

6:48:14 > 6:48:18bit careful with those ringpulls, cos sometimes, they can have sharp edges.

6:48:18 > 6:48:21All the details are on the website, which is...

6:48:23 > 6:48:26The perfect thing about it is you can use old bits and bobs lying around

6:48:26 > 6:48:29to help tidy up those old bits and bobs that are lying around.

6:48:29 > 6:48:31- Are we up for making this? - ALL: Yes.

6:48:31 > 6:48:33Let's get started, then!

6:48:33 > 6:48:36OK, the very first thing we do is take our clean used tin,

6:48:36 > 6:48:38as explained by Thomas, here.

6:48:38 > 6:48:42Now you can see just there there is a bit of a sharp edge.

6:48:42 > 6:48:43You might need to sand it down.

6:48:43 > 6:48:45Possibly ask an adult for help if you do so.

6:48:45 > 6:48:50Then we take our decoration. I'm going to go for a green button.

6:48:50 > 6:48:54Now, I'm going to measure this against our magnetic tape.

6:48:54 > 6:48:56Now this is slightly special magnetic tape.

6:48:56 > 6:48:59In fact, let me measure it first.

6:48:59 > 6:49:03Perfect, OK. So it's slightly special magnetic tape, because it is...

6:49:03 > 6:49:08It's got a plastic side which reveals a sticky side.

6:49:08 > 6:49:09Now, I was careful when I cut it,

6:49:09 > 6:49:13just to watch my fingers there as you peel that off.

6:49:13 > 6:49:16That is the sticky side right there.

6:49:16 > 6:49:19Now, this tape is actually found in craft shops, online,

6:49:19 > 6:49:22for a couple of pounds and it's well worth it.

6:49:22 > 6:49:25So this is really simple. You simply put your button there

6:49:25 > 6:49:29and it sticks to the tin due to the magnetic attraction.

6:49:29 > 6:49:30And I've got some prepared ones earlier.

6:49:30 > 6:49:32There's another button there.

6:49:32 > 6:49:35Now let's see if you can see what I'm going to be making here.

6:49:35 > 6:49:38There's a ring pull. Like I said, be careful when you take that off cans.

6:49:38 > 6:49:43We have a paperclip and another paperclip!

6:49:43 > 6:49:44It's a smiley face!

6:49:44 > 6:49:47OK, guys, what are you up to? Thomas, let's take a look at yours.

6:49:47 > 6:49:49- Um...- Can we have a look?

6:49:49 > 6:49:51Can you spin it around for me?

6:49:51 > 6:49:54- I'm making a smiley face. - Oh, there it is!

6:49:54 > 6:49:57That looks very sharp! I love the hair, by the way! Yes!

6:49:57 > 6:50:01- Hayley, what have you made? - Um...- Oh, what is that one?

6:50:01 > 6:50:04- A pig with pigtails.- A pig with...!

6:50:04 > 6:50:08- A pig with pigtails?- Yeah.- I love what you've done there, Hayley! Yes!

6:50:08 > 6:50:11And Owen, what about yourself? What have you made?

6:50:11 > 6:50:13- I've made... - (Show that camera there.)

6:50:13 > 6:50:17I've made a freaky looking monster with funky little sideburns.

6:50:17 > 6:50:19It is very freaky! Kaylin, what about yourself?

6:50:19 > 6:50:24I've made sparkly hair and a happy face.

6:50:24 > 6:50:27I really like the creativity here. And that's the beauty about this.

6:50:27 > 6:50:30You can be as creative as you want. It doesn't have to be a face,

6:50:30 > 6:50:32but here's a little idea. Take a look at this here.

6:50:32 > 6:50:35So we have smiley face, only you get too much homework

6:50:35 > 6:50:38and you're a bit grumpy, there's a grumpy face!

6:50:38 > 6:50:39Thank you so much for helping us out.

6:50:39 > 6:50:42- Fantastic job. Barney, what do you reckon?- I love it, Radzi!

6:50:42 > 6:50:45A classic example of a Blue Peter make - upcycling, it's dead easy,

6:50:45 > 6:50:48everybody can get involved and you can create your own smiley faces.

6:50:48 > 6:50:49Why not give it a go yourself?

6:50:49 > 6:50:51If you do, take a picture and send it to us.

6:50:51 > 6:50:53We love hearing from you. It might even make it

6:50:53 > 6:50:56into the Makes And Bakes gallery on our Blue Peter website.

6:50:56 > 6:50:58Earlier, we asked you to get in touch and say which film

6:50:58 > 6:51:00you would like to see at the end of the show. That time is now.

6:51:00 > 6:51:04The votes have been counted, so the votes are officially closed.

6:51:04 > 6:51:07I didn't do my own sound effect then, but that would've been cool.

6:51:07 > 6:51:09So, you had three films to choose from.

6:51:09 > 6:51:11When Lindsey and myself sang with Pentatonix.

6:51:11 > 6:51:14There was the film where I blew a building up. And, of course,

6:51:14 > 6:51:16the film where I got to train Ziggy the police dog.

6:51:16 > 6:51:19So, I can now reveal the winning film is...

6:51:19 > 6:51:22FANFARE PLAYS

6:51:23 > 6:51:25Cost a fortune that. The winning film is

6:51:25 > 6:51:28Ziggy the police dog and Barney training him.

6:51:28 > 6:51:30It's quite a comedy. Have a look. Enjoy.

6:51:32 > 6:51:33DOGS BARK

6:51:33 > 6:51:35'Police dogs are an important part of the police force,

6:51:35 > 6:51:39'from helping to catch criminals to finding illegal and dangerous items.

6:51:39 > 6:51:41'They work on the front line.'

6:51:43 > 6:51:46Good boy. This is Banjo. He's one of the many police dogs

6:51:46 > 6:51:48that are used by the Greater Manchester Police

6:51:48 > 6:51:50and I'm here to find out how they're used

6:51:50 > 6:51:54and, in true Blue Peter style, I've been given a very special challenge.

6:51:54 > 6:51:57He likes cameras, by the way. In just a week's time, I'm going

6:51:57 > 6:51:59to be working with the police at Manchester Airport.

6:51:59 > 6:52:02Now, this is very serious. This is real police work.

6:52:02 > 6:52:04I've got to learn fast and know exactly what I'm doing.

6:52:04 > 6:52:07Constable Harwood and Banjo, reporting for duty.

6:52:07 > 6:52:09Eh? Oh, wrong arm.

6:52:09 > 6:52:10Sorry.

6:52:10 > 6:52:15'I'm here at Hough End in Charlton to meet officer Rob Carlin

6:52:15 > 6:52:17'and his dog Colin.'

6:52:17 > 6:52:20I was expecting to see a German shepherd, but he's a spaniel.

6:52:20 > 6:52:23He is, he's a springer spaniel. We don't just use German shepherds.

6:52:23 > 6:52:27We use, um, spaniels and Labradors and cocker spaniels,

6:52:27 > 6:52:29springer spaniels for searching.

6:52:29 > 6:52:32Any dog that's got a high play drive, that really wants to please you

6:52:32 > 6:52:37and do the job we can use, but with the spaniels and the labs,

6:52:37 > 6:52:40- their noses are very good. - When you say a high play drive,

6:52:40 > 6:52:42you mean it's kind of play and reward? So, even though

6:52:42 > 6:52:45- they're working dogs, they think it's a bit of fun?- They do.

6:52:45 > 6:52:47It's all play-based training, so, er, with the search dogs,

6:52:47 > 6:52:50they basically think they're looking for a tennis ball

6:52:50 > 6:52:52and the end result is they get a tennis ball.

6:52:52 > 6:52:54What do you use Colin for? What kind of dog is he?

6:52:54 > 6:52:56Colin's trained to find explosives.

6:52:56 > 6:52:59There are several different types of explosives.

6:52:59 > 6:53:01And Colin's trained to find those.

6:53:03 > 6:53:04'So, Rob and Colin are going to give me

6:53:04 > 6:53:07'a demonstration of what I need to learn.

6:53:08 > 6:53:09'Hidden in this function room

6:53:09 > 6:53:12'are a small amount of explosives for Colin to find.'

6:53:14 > 6:53:16You can see Colin's wearing a harness now.

6:53:16 > 6:53:19Um, this is a trigger for the dog, so that he knows he's searching.

6:53:19 > 6:53:21Stay.

6:53:21 > 6:53:23- He's a good boy.- Sit.

6:53:23 > 6:53:24Go find.

6:53:27 > 6:53:28So I'm watching the dog now.

6:53:28 > 6:53:30You've got to keep your eye on the dog at all times,

6:53:30 > 6:53:33cos he might do something that I need to recognise,

6:53:33 > 6:53:35that he may have got into a scent pattern.

6:53:37 > 6:53:40How do you know he found something? What does Colin do to tell you that?

6:53:40 > 6:53:44He'll get to the source of the smell and he'll just stop.

6:53:44 > 6:53:46- This is safe now. We know this is OK.- OK.

6:53:46 > 6:53:48- This has been searched.- Yeah. - So we'll move down now.

6:53:50 > 6:53:53- He likes that area.- You can see now, he's getting very interested there.

6:53:53 > 6:53:56See, Colin has now stopped. He's now waiting for his tennis ball.

6:53:58 > 6:54:01- Good boy!- 'That's Colin's reward. So let's see what he's found.'

6:54:01 > 6:54:05- Just behind the step there.- Yeah? - You can see there's a pot.- Oh, yeah.

6:54:05 > 6:54:11Pick that up. Just inside the pot there, you've got plastic explosives.

6:54:11 > 6:54:13'In the canister, the explosives are perfectly safe,

6:54:13 > 6:54:16'but in the wrong hands could be very dangerous.'

6:54:16 > 6:54:18Right, so he did the job? He found it.

6:54:18 > 6:54:22- I've now got to try and do that with my own dog?- Yes, that's right.

6:54:22 > 6:54:25- So, say hello to Ziggy.- Yeah. - Ziggy is my search dog.- He is.

6:54:25 > 6:54:28This is Ziggy, he's a new dog, he's only seven months old now.

6:54:28 > 6:54:31So he has done a little bit, but not a great deal.

6:54:31 > 6:54:32So we're both in training?

6:54:32 > 6:54:35- That's right, so it's over to you now.- It's me and you, Ziggy.

6:54:35 > 6:54:37- See if you can, er, find it.- OK.

6:54:37 > 6:54:39Find.

6:54:40 > 6:54:43- Ziggy! - BARNEY CLAPS

6:54:43 > 6:54:45This way. Ziggy?

6:54:45 > 6:54:47Here, boy!

6:54:47 > 6:54:48Ziggy!

6:54:48 > 6:54:51Ziggy? 'Er, I don't think he's listening!'

6:54:53 > 6:54:56- Give him the command to find again. - Like that?

6:54:57 > 6:55:00He's very excited about something here, isn't he?

6:55:00 > 6:55:02- He is, yes, so leave him with it now.- OK.

6:55:02 > 6:55:04There you go. That's the dog's indication.

6:55:04 > 6:55:07He's gone into the sit, so we reward Ziggy a bit more quickly,

6:55:07 > 6:55:09- because he's a young dog.- OK. - Brilliant, well done.- Good boy!

6:55:09 > 6:55:12- That was brilliant.- That's it, well done.- First timer as well!

6:55:12 > 6:55:15You know, you got better and better as the search went on,

6:55:15 > 6:55:17because, initially, you were perhaps too close to the dog.

6:55:17 > 6:55:20- OK.- And at one point, he was behind you.- Did we find anything?

6:55:20 > 6:55:23I mean, Ziggy's knows that he's found something.

6:55:23 > 6:55:26- 'It's more plastic explosives.' - So he did really well.

6:55:26 > 6:55:28- There you have it. - And so did you.- Thank you very much.

6:55:28 > 6:55:32- That was brilliant!- No problem, well done.- Do I get a tennis ball now?

6:55:32 > 6:55:34BARKING

6:55:34 > 6:55:37'Today is the day for my challenge at Manchester Airport.

6:55:37 > 6:55:39'It's time for Ziggy and I

6:55:39 > 6:55:42'to work as a team in a special training exercise.'

6:55:43 > 6:55:46The front pocket is the most important

6:55:46 > 6:55:49part of any police officer who works with a dog's uniform,

6:55:49 > 6:55:51and you'll see it says there on the side -

6:55:51 > 6:55:55"scoop the poop", so be prepared.

6:55:55 > 6:55:57'But now, things are about to get serious.

6:55:57 > 6:56:00'Rob has hidden a small amount of explosive somewhere

6:56:00 > 6:56:04'in the busy airport and it's down to me and Ziggy to find them.'

6:56:20 > 6:56:23'it looks like Ziggy has discovered something.'

6:56:23 > 6:56:26If that... If that's not a definite point, I don't know what is.

6:56:37 > 6:56:39Such a great experience to actually be here with Ziggy,

6:56:39 > 6:56:43for him to show me the ropes in the airport and it's really quite weird,

6:56:43 > 6:56:45though, how dogs are sort of led by their sense of smell.

6:56:45 > 6:56:48I'm actually the same with sausages. If anybody gets...
