6:30:56 > 6:30:57Ashleigh and Pudsey are here.

6:30:57 > 6:31:01Plus, Sir Quentin Blake, the fabulous illustrator, answers your questions

6:31:01 > 6:31:02and gives you some top tips.

6:31:02 > 6:31:05And we're showing you how to make awesome artwork like this.

6:31:05 > 6:31:07All on today's Blue Peter.

6:31:22 > 6:31:24CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

6:31:24 > 6:31:28- Hello.- Hello! How are you doing? You're watching Blue Peter.

6:31:28 > 6:31:31I don't like my shirt, but they're making me wear it!

6:31:31 > 6:31:34- Oh, Barney! Look who's back! - This is Iggy. How cute is that?

6:31:34 > 6:31:38She's having a nap. She's getting a lot bigger and quite heavy to hold.

6:31:38 > 6:31:40As well as her growing this week,

6:31:40 > 6:31:43Iggy has also been getting up to a bit of mischief, hasn't she?

6:31:43 > 6:31:46She has. She came around and we did a puppy sleepover.

6:31:46 > 6:31:48- She got into my house. You were there, Barney.- I enjoyed myself.

6:31:48 > 6:31:51And she did a great big wee on the floor.

6:31:51 > 6:31:53That is her face just after she's done it.

6:31:53 > 6:31:57Thing is, we don't mind because she's learning about new environments

6:31:57 > 6:31:58and she gets excited sometimes.

6:31:58 > 6:32:01Plus, I'd just weed there before she did, so she thought it was...

6:32:01 > 6:32:03- I didn't really. - She's being good now.

6:32:03 > 6:32:05She is going to sleep. But we want to know,

6:32:05 > 6:32:08what mischief have your pets been getting up to?

6:32:08 > 6:32:10Get in touch via our Blue Peter website...

6:32:16 > 6:32:18Send us a photo too - bluepeter@bbc.co.uk.

6:32:18 > 6:32:21We'll try and show as many of them as we can later in the show.

6:32:21 > 6:32:24- She's fallen asleep.- When she wakes up. She's so cute, isn't she?

6:32:24 > 6:32:26Another of our Blue Peter pets

6:32:26 > 6:32:28is Shelley the tortoise.

6:32:28 > 6:32:29If you're not into football,

6:32:29 > 6:32:33the World Cup final consists of Argentina and Germany.

6:32:33 > 6:32:35Take a look at who Shelley predicted to win it.

6:32:35 > 6:32:38There was any country in the world Shelley could have predicted

6:32:38 > 6:32:40at the start of the tournament, but she was confident -

6:32:40 > 6:32:42- her leg goes on Germany. - That's amazing, isn't it?

6:32:42 > 6:32:45- It really is.- She could be onto something.- Absolutely.

6:32:45 > 6:32:4850/50 chance. So, Shelley, fingers crossed for you, my friend.

6:32:48 > 6:32:51Now, I'm going to walk very gently because Iggy is having a little nap.

6:32:51 > 6:32:54But as you can tell, we are absolutely obsessed with Iggy.

6:32:54 > 6:32:57If you go on to the website and click on Iggy's little face,

6:32:57 > 6:32:59bbc.co.uk/bluepeter,

6:32:59 > 6:33:02you can check out what she has been getting up to.

6:33:02 > 6:33:03There's loads of videos and photos.

6:33:03 > 6:33:05If you want to see more from Iggy,

6:33:05 > 6:33:09why not find out how she has been getting on over the last few weeks?

6:33:15 > 6:33:18So far, Iggy has only known the guide dog breeding centre

6:33:18 > 6:33:21as her home, where she's been growing up and having fun

6:33:21 > 6:33:22with a few little puppy tests.

6:33:22 > 6:33:24But that is all about to change.

6:33:24 > 6:33:29Today Iggy has left the centre to live in her brand-new home.

6:33:29 > 6:33:33Just in there is the puppy-walking family that will take care of Iggy

6:33:33 > 6:33:35as she takes on her guide dog training.

6:33:37 > 6:33:39Here's Huey, Poppy,

6:33:39 > 6:33:40mum Anna, dad David

6:33:40 > 6:33:44and this is Bonnie, another guide dog who has been with the family

6:33:44 > 6:33:45since she was a puppy.

6:33:45 > 6:33:48She will leave soon to begin the next part of her training.

6:33:48 > 6:33:50So what made you want to be a puppy-walking family?

6:33:50 > 6:33:53A friend told us about the puppy-walking scheme.

6:33:53 > 6:33:56We liked the idea of being able to see what it is like

6:33:56 > 6:33:58to have a puppy for the 12 months.

6:33:58 > 6:34:00What's Bonnie like with other dogs?

6:34:00 > 6:34:02Do you think Iggy will fit in with the family?

6:34:02 > 6:34:05Bonnie is really playful. She loves other puppies.

6:34:05 > 6:34:09Hopefully Bonnie will show her the ropes and get her settled in quickly.

6:34:09 > 6:34:13'Finally, after a very long journey, Iggy arrives at her new home.'

6:34:13 > 6:34:16She's here. The puppy has arrived.

6:34:16 > 6:34:19- Hi, Richard.- All right.

6:34:19 > 6:34:21She is so cute, isn't she?

6:34:21 > 6:34:23- This is your new home.- Hi!

6:34:25 > 6:34:29'Richard is a puppy-training expert and will help Anna and the family

6:34:29 > 6:34:31'through each part of Iggy's training.

6:34:31 > 6:34:32'But first, it's time for a drink.'

6:34:32 > 6:34:34Is that to give her energy?

6:34:34 > 6:34:37Yeah, it's an energy drink for pups

6:34:37 > 6:34:39to keep her going until her next meal.

6:34:39 > 6:34:41'Fed and ready to explore her new home,

6:34:41 > 6:34:43'Iggy needs to know where to sleep,

6:34:43 > 6:34:47'so with a cardboard box and towels, Iggy's new room is ready.'

6:34:48 > 6:34:49- Iggy!- Iggy!

6:34:49 > 6:34:51Good girl.

6:34:51 > 6:34:54- Do you want to check out your new bedroom?- What is in there?

6:34:54 > 6:34:56Oh, yes. A big step.

6:34:56 > 6:34:59- I think she likes her new room, doesn't she?- I think she does.

6:34:59 > 6:35:03'Not only does Iggy need to get used to her new surroundings, she also

6:35:03 > 6:35:04'needs to get used to her new name.'

6:35:04 > 6:35:07Iggy, Iggy!

6:35:07 > 6:35:10Well done. You're very good at that.

6:35:12 > 6:35:15'Now Iggy is settled, she needs to meet her new roommate, Bonnie.'

6:35:15 > 6:35:17This is your big sister.

6:35:17 > 6:35:20This must be quite an exciting day for Iggy.

6:35:20 > 6:35:24She's moved house and she's meeting another big dog.

6:35:24 > 6:35:27'Then it was time for Iggy to meet the rest of her new family.'

6:35:27 > 6:35:29THEY SQUEAL

6:35:30 > 6:35:31She's so cute!

6:35:31 > 6:35:34She might be a bit cuter than Bonnie.

6:35:34 > 6:35:36You can't say that!

6:35:37 > 6:35:40Do you know what? This is Iggy's home for now.

6:35:40 > 6:35:43I will be there every step of the way helping with her training,

6:35:43 > 6:35:45- is that all right?- Yeah.

6:35:45 > 6:35:47High-five. Team Iggy. Boom!

6:35:54 > 6:35:56'A week later, I go back to meet Anna

6:35:56 > 6:35:58'to help her with the next stage of Iggy's training.'

6:35:58 > 6:36:00What have we got in store today?

6:36:00 > 6:36:02Today I thought it would be

6:36:02 > 6:36:04really good to get her out and about,

6:36:04 > 6:36:07to get her used to normal sights and things we see around town.

6:36:07 > 6:36:09'First up is walking on a lead

6:36:09 > 6:36:12'and seeing how Iggy responds to being in a new environment.'

6:36:12 > 6:36:16- Which side do I put her on?- You want to keep on the left-hand side.

6:36:16 > 6:36:18We teach guide dogs to always walk on the left.

6:36:18 > 6:36:20OK. Off you go, Igs.

6:36:20 > 6:36:22Come on, Iggy.

6:36:26 > 6:36:29- So what is next for Iggy? - This is our first trip into town,

6:36:29 > 6:36:31so there's lots of things for her to see.

6:36:31 > 6:36:34Loads of distractions here, aren't there? Sounds, people, cars?

6:36:34 > 6:36:36Yeah, but she's done so well this morning.

6:36:36 > 6:36:40We thought we might try her in one of the local shops.

6:36:40 > 6:36:42Come on, Igs, are you ready? Let's go shopping!

6:36:47 > 6:36:50It's important for her to smell all the different smells.

6:36:50 > 6:36:53cos obviously, her sense of smell is amazing.

6:36:53 > 6:36:56This will be very new to her, won't it? There is food everywhere.

6:36:56 > 6:36:58Absolutely. She has never done a shop. Exactly!

6:37:07 > 6:37:11Anna, I have to say, I'm overwhelmed with how well she has done today.

6:37:11 > 6:37:14She did a great job. She experienced so many new things.

6:37:14 > 6:37:16She has been absolutely amazing.

6:37:16 > 6:37:19Iggy, we are proud of you but you are looking tired.

6:37:19 > 6:37:20Shall we get her home for a nap?

6:37:20 > 6:37:22- Let's do that.- Come on, nap time.

6:37:28 > 6:37:31Apart from looking very cute, she has a job to do.

6:37:31 > 6:37:32What have we planned today?

6:37:32 > 6:37:35We will look at whistle feeding, which we have already introduced

6:37:35 > 6:37:37and she is coming along nicely.

6:37:37 > 6:37:39Richard, what is the purpose of this test?

6:37:39 > 6:37:42The sound of the whistle, to her, means food,

6:37:42 > 6:37:45so that when she is off the lead, they can blow the whistle,

6:37:45 > 6:37:49Iggy will think "food" and hopefully come haring back to the owner.

6:37:49 > 6:37:53'This is where I come in. I'm here to whistle-feed Iggy her lunch.'

6:37:53 > 6:37:56Wait. Wait.

6:37:56 > 6:37:58Wait.

6:37:58 > 6:37:59WHISTLE BLOWS

6:37:59 > 6:38:01Good girl.

6:38:01 > 6:38:03'After passing the test with food,

6:38:03 > 6:38:06'we head outside to see how she will get on in the garden.'

6:38:06 > 6:38:08- Let's go.- Good girl, this way.

6:38:08 > 6:38:10So we're going to do a bit of practice in the garden

6:38:10 > 6:38:11- for this test.- We are.

6:38:11 > 6:38:14We're going to test her recall response, how well she comes back.

6:38:14 > 6:38:17When you blow the whistle, she comes running back to you

6:38:17 > 6:38:20and she makes contact with your legs,

6:38:20 > 6:38:23so when she does go to a service user, they will know she is there

6:38:23 > 6:38:27- by making the contact if they can't see her at all.- OK.

6:38:27 > 6:38:31'With her challenge set, let's hope Iggy knows what to do.'

6:38:31 > 6:38:33Right, Iggy, go and have a play, go on.

6:38:34 > 6:38:37It's play time! Go free.

6:38:37 > 6:38:39There you go.

6:38:39 > 6:38:40She's too well behaved.

6:38:40 > 6:38:42Or is she?

6:38:44 > 6:38:46WHISTLE BLOWS

6:38:48 > 6:38:51Well done, good girl.

6:38:51 > 6:38:55- Richard, I think she has done pretty well there.- Very well indeed. Yes.

6:38:55 > 6:38:57Is it normal for her to do this well?

6:38:57 > 6:39:00Generally they do well at this stage but she is particularly special.

6:39:00 > 6:39:03She's working nicely for you at the minute.

6:39:03 > 6:39:06Come on, you, stop re-turfing the grass.

6:39:06 > 6:39:09I love watching those videos of Iggy. I feel so proud.

6:39:09 > 6:39:11I'm like a proud mum.

6:39:11 > 6:39:13It's dog mania in the studio today,

6:39:13 > 6:39:17cos not only is Iggy here, we are joined by Ashleigh and Pudsey!

6:39:19 > 6:39:21APPLAUSE

6:39:22 > 6:39:24Good boy, come on, then.

6:39:24 > 6:39:26- Hi.- Hi.- Thank you for coming on the show.

6:39:26 > 6:39:29Who is that, Iggy? Say hello. Do you think they'll be friends?

6:39:29 > 6:39:32- I think they'll be best friends. - Iggy is trying to get on the couch.

6:39:32 > 6:39:34You're not allowed to do that because of your training.

6:39:34 > 6:39:37- You sit there. - Pudsey setting a bad example there.

6:39:37 > 6:39:40- Now, Pudsey is in his very own film.- Yeah.

6:39:40 > 6:39:43You trained him for the film. What was it like being on set?

6:39:43 > 6:39:45Yeah, it was a little bit unusual

6:39:45 > 6:39:47and different from anything we've done before.

6:39:47 > 6:39:52There was a lot of hiding underneath tables and doors on set from me.

6:39:52 > 6:39:54But Pudsey enjoyed it, he loved working.

6:39:54 > 6:39:56He's a bit of a show-off so he loves the cameras.

6:39:56 > 6:39:58I was going to say, it's quite different because

6:39:58 > 6:40:01we've seen you on Who Let The Dogs Out? and Britain's Got Talent.

6:40:01 > 6:40:03Normally, you perform with him.

6:40:03 > 6:40:05- Yeah.- But this was quite different, wasn't it?

6:40:05 > 6:40:07Yeah. He had to learn a kind of sign language.

6:40:07 > 6:40:09So if he was in the middle of a scene,

6:40:09 > 6:40:12I couldn't shout out his command or anything like that,

6:40:12 > 6:40:15so he had to look at me and I would tell him a command with my hand.

6:40:15 > 6:40:18- That's amazing.- Then he would do it, most of the time.

6:40:18 > 6:40:20- Shows how clever he is.- Yes.

6:40:20 > 6:40:24Are there any secrets from set? Did anything go wrong or happen?

6:40:24 > 6:40:26- There's one big secret.- Yeah?

6:40:26 > 6:40:27The cat in the film

6:40:27 > 6:40:30was meant to play a big part all the way through the storyline.

6:40:30 > 6:40:34- But unfortunately, the cat was very naughty...- Oh, no!

6:40:34 > 6:40:36..and kind of got fired.

6:40:36 > 6:40:38- You fired the cat? - Yeah, unfortunately.

6:40:38 > 6:40:41And Lorraine Kelly, who does BBC Breakfast,

6:40:41 > 6:40:44she accidentally got fired as well because of the cat.

6:40:44 > 6:40:46- She was the voice. - Oh, dear!- So yeah, whoops. Sorry!

6:40:46 > 6:40:49That's not good, you don't want that, do you?

6:40:49 > 6:40:51Any top tips for anyone watching and thinking,

6:40:51 > 6:40:55"I want to train my dog to be that good," what would you say to do?

6:40:55 > 6:40:59My top tip would be, if you want to train your dog in anything,

6:40:59 > 6:41:01like obedience or canine freestyle or agility,

6:41:01 > 6:41:05try and join a local dog-training club, so there's teachers there

6:41:05 > 6:41:07that can train you properly in the right way.

6:41:07 > 6:41:10- It's all about being patient as well.- Exactly.

6:41:10 > 6:41:11Making sure you have fun as well.

6:41:11 > 6:41:14That is important. How do you keep coming up with new tricks?

6:41:14 > 6:41:17It seems there's nothing Pudsey can't do.

6:41:17 > 6:41:19- I don't know about that.- Super dog!

6:41:19 > 6:41:23That's kind of me, where I have to step in and think,

6:41:23 > 6:41:26"What can we do next?" Routines, tricks, because

6:41:26 > 6:41:30people look up towards us and say, "I like that trick, I'll copy it."

6:41:30 > 6:41:34- So yeah, it's finding new things. - Very much teamwork, isn't it?- Yes.

6:41:34 > 6:41:37- You're the mastermind behind Ashleigh and Pudsey.- Maybe!

6:41:37 > 6:41:39Thank you so much for coming today.

6:41:39 > 6:41:41- Thank you.- I will let you get ready for your performance.

6:41:41 > 6:41:43Iggy and I will take a seat

6:41:43 > 6:41:44and see what Iggy makes of it.

6:41:44 > 6:41:45Take it away, guys.

6:41:47 > 6:41:50MUSIC: "Crazy Stupid Love" by Cheryl Cole

6:41:56 > 6:41:59# Swore I would never be that girl holding your hand

6:41:59 > 6:42:01# Look at you, gazing

6:42:01 > 6:42:03# Acting like your biggest fan

6:42:17 > 6:42:19# Had me with every word

6:42:19 > 6:42:21# You saw right through me

6:42:21 > 6:42:24# Melted me down to the core

6:42:24 > 6:42:27# I was done when you walked through that door

6:42:28 > 6:42:31# Well, I don't know how you do it to me

6:42:31 > 6:42:33# You make my brain just stop

6:42:33 > 6:42:35# Sink my heart to my feet

6:42:35 > 6:42:38# It's like a rollercoaster

6:42:52 > 6:42:54APPLAUSE

6:42:54 > 6:42:55Oh, my goodness.

6:42:55 > 6:42:58BARNEY: That's amazing. Ashleigh and Pudsey, thank you,

6:42:58 > 6:42:59not just for that performance,

6:43:02 > 6:43:03Radzi, paw.

6:43:03 > 6:43:05Good boy, Radzi, spin round.

6:43:05 > 6:43:07Radzi, talk about the Badge Wall.

6:43:07 > 6:43:10Thousands of you have been getting in touch with...

6:43:10 > 6:43:13Thousands of you, sending your post to us each and every week.

6:43:13 > 6:43:16Since the arrival of Iggy, you have not let us down.

6:43:16 > 6:43:19Just look at how much Iggy post we have on the big Badge Wall.

6:43:19 > 6:43:20Barney, do you have a favourite?

6:43:20 > 6:43:23Yep. I have a badge, it's like a mask that Katie sent in.

6:43:23 > 6:43:25- This is amazing.- It's an Iggy mask.

6:43:25 > 6:43:26Iggy, that looks like you!

6:43:26 > 6:43:27- Barney?- Yes, mate?

6:43:27 > 6:43:29Put the mask on.

6:43:30 > 6:43:32Thank you very much, Katie. It's brilliant.

6:43:32 > 6:43:35Lindsey, is there one that stands out for you?

6:43:35 > 6:43:37There is. This is from Megan from Altrincham.

6:43:37 > 6:43:39She sent in an Iggy-titled book,

6:43:39 > 6:43:41and if you look inside, there are so many details

6:43:41 > 6:43:44- of all the guide dogs we've had. - I'll do that. Sorry.- Thanks.

6:43:44 > 6:43:46You're being my model. Thank you.

6:43:46 > 6:43:50Everyone from Honey to Iggy, the last 50 years of Guide Dogs UK.

6:43:50 > 6:43:52Feast your eyes on this one.

6:43:52 > 6:43:54It's from Cosmo, who is from Hampshire.

6:43:54 > 6:43:57I love this almost as much as I love the name "Cosmo".

6:43:57 > 6:44:00How cool is that name? Unbelievable. Thank you, Cosmo,

6:44:00 > 6:44:03and thank you to everyone who made the big Badge Wall

6:44:03 > 6:44:04or simply for sending in your post.

6:44:04 > 6:44:07And if you want to get in touch with Blue Peter, you can do that

6:44:07 > 6:44:10through our website, but also through our postal address,

6:44:10 > 6:44:11which is on the screen right now,

6:44:11 > 6:44:14and then you can get your hands, potentially, on one of these -

6:44:14 > 6:44:16the Blue Peter badge.

6:44:16 > 6:44:19You know this. There are all sorts of badges you can get your hands on.

6:44:19 > 6:44:22- Let's talk about this one. This is about inspiration.- My favourite!

6:44:22 > 6:44:25It's the Sport Badge 2014.

6:44:25 > 6:44:28And if you've got the Sport Badge of 2013, you can apply again

6:44:28 > 6:44:30and get another Sport Badge. Who wouldn't want to?

6:44:30 > 6:44:33- Radzi would!- A 2013 and a 2014.

6:44:33 > 6:44:36Now, if you have already introduced somebody to a sport,

6:44:36 > 6:44:39why not introduce another friend to the same sport or take up

6:44:39 > 6:44:40a different sport with your friend?

6:44:40 > 6:44:43You could get yourselves one of these. If you feel creative,

6:44:43 > 6:44:46like the people who sent all these amazing pieces of artwork,

6:44:46 > 6:44:49why not get involved in the new Blue Peter design-a-poster competition.

6:44:49 > 6:44:50The prize is amazing -

6:44:50 > 6:44:53a chance for your artwork to be displayed at all the attractions

6:44:53 > 6:44:55the badge can get you into in the UK.

6:44:55 > 6:44:58You're going to need a bit of inspiration for this,

6:44:58 > 6:45:00and there's one guy who I think will do just that.

6:45:00 > 6:45:02- He's amazing. One of my heroes.- Aw!

6:45:02 > 6:45:03It's not Radzi, though.

6:45:03 > 6:45:05It's Sir Quentin Blake.

6:45:14 > 6:45:17It's not every day you get to meet the man behind the illustrations

6:45:17 > 6:45:20of Charlie And The Chocolate Factory, Matilda and Mr Stink,

6:45:20 > 6:45:22and he's no ordinary man. He's an incredible man

6:45:22 > 6:45:25who wears a Blue Peter badge that's gold. That's how special he is.

6:45:25 > 6:45:29He is the brilliant Sir Quentin Blake.

6:45:29 > 6:45:32Quentin Blake is one of the world's most-loved illustrators.

6:45:32 > 6:45:35He's illustrated over 300 books, including over 30 of his own,

6:45:35 > 6:45:38and he is also one of the brains behind this gallery.

6:45:38 > 6:45:40This is the House of Illustration,

6:45:40 > 6:45:42the world's first gallery dedicated to the drawings

6:45:42 > 6:45:45people like Sir Quentin, Raymond Briggs and Lauren Child draw

6:45:45 > 6:45:48for books, novels, magazines and newspapers.

6:45:48 > 6:45:51It's an exhibition of Quentin's work that's opening the gallery.

6:45:52 > 6:45:54Quentin, it's so good to see you again.

6:45:54 > 6:45:55Thank you for being on the show.

6:45:55 > 6:45:57- It's a pleasure. Look. - I know. I spotted it.

6:45:57 > 6:46:00- I've had that for a long time. - It's a very sparkly badge.

6:46:00 > 6:46:02It is almost as sparkly as the gallery we are in today.

6:46:02 > 6:46:04What made you want to do something like this?

6:46:04 > 6:46:07Well, one thing about illustration, it's very accessible.

6:46:07 > 6:46:10It's a language you can understand very quickly.

6:46:10 > 6:46:12So to get the general public,

6:46:12 > 6:46:15to get schools to come in and look at pictures...

6:46:15 > 6:46:17Could you explain how you draw a picture?

6:46:17 > 6:46:19There is one here, this is Clown,

6:46:19 > 6:46:21and if I can show you this,

6:46:21 > 6:46:24this shows some of the way that you set about it.

6:46:26 > 6:46:29It's about a toy clown who takes on life.

6:46:30 > 6:46:33- It's like storyboarding for a movie, isn't it?- Exactly like that.

6:46:33 > 6:46:36There are these little key moments.

6:46:36 > 6:46:38This is where a sort of terrible skinhead gets hold of him

6:46:38 > 6:46:40and throws him through the air.

6:46:41 > 6:46:44And so, then I get into the finished pictures.

6:46:44 > 6:46:47Here is the skinhead again, swinging him around.

6:46:51 > 6:46:53The word I would use is "inspirational".

6:46:53 > 6:46:56I know there are people watching who will want to draw like Quentin Blake.

6:46:56 > 6:46:58I like doodling. I've always liked drawing

6:46:58 > 6:47:01and I have something in the other room that I'd like to draw.

6:47:01 > 6:47:04I thought while you are here, you could teach me to draw it

6:47:04 > 6:47:07- a little better.- I wonder.- Is it OK? - Shall we give it a go?- Follow me.

6:47:09 > 6:47:11So this is the picture I'm talking about.

6:47:11 > 6:47:14It's Lindsey in the Blue Peter studio with our lovely new puppy Iggy.

6:47:14 > 6:47:16I thought we could do an illustration of that.

6:47:16 > 6:47:18We could try. I'll give it a go.

6:47:18 > 6:47:20You don't use a normal pen either?

6:47:20 > 6:47:23Sometimes I use quills.

6:47:23 > 6:47:24It's interesting to me

6:47:24 > 6:47:27because that's one of the oldest things you can draw with.

6:47:27 > 6:47:29They've been using them for 500 years.

6:47:31 > 6:47:34A difficult thing about dogs is to get the back legs right.

6:47:34 > 6:47:35- OK.- They do that.

6:47:38 > 6:47:41Did you know what's really strange? I'm trying to draw it

6:47:41 > 6:47:43like Quentin Blake. It's not working.

6:47:43 > 6:47:44Have one of these.

6:47:44 > 6:47:47It's a strange thing to work with because it comes and goes.

6:47:47 > 6:47:49You just dip and scratch?

6:47:51 > 6:47:54There is something quite satisfying about the sound it makes.

6:47:54 > 6:47:57- Isn't there?- Do you think that has helped your style over the years,

6:47:57 > 6:47:59you have a definitive style because of how you draw?

6:47:59 > 6:48:03I think so. Someone said to me, "It's like handwriting."

6:48:06 > 6:48:07That's amazing.

6:48:08 > 6:48:10It's a beautiful thing.

6:48:10 > 6:48:13- That's me done.- Very good.

6:48:13 > 6:48:14I think Iggy looks OK...

6:48:14 > 6:48:16Iggy is rather good, I think.

6:48:16 > 6:48:19- I think you've got the eyebrows that I haven't got.- Sure.

6:48:19 > 6:48:22I think I've grilled you enough on what it takes to be a good artist,

6:48:22 > 6:48:25and I'll leave that to you, because you do it so much better.

6:48:25 > 6:48:27But I do have some viewers' questions,

6:48:27 > 6:48:30- which I would love to ask you, if that's OK.- Yeah, sure.

6:48:30 > 6:48:31We'll do a quick-fire question round.

6:48:31 > 6:48:33- Are you ready for this?- Almost.

6:48:33 > 6:48:35You're playing for a holiday in Spain. Good luck.

6:48:35 > 6:48:40Cream Shiny Koala says, "Hello, just to mention that I love all your work,

6:48:40 > 6:48:41"and what are your top tips

6:48:41 > 6:48:43"for someone who wishes to become an artist?"

6:48:43 > 6:48:47You have to draw a lot. That is the way you learn to do it.

6:48:47 > 6:48:51Just do it. Don't worry about it looking beautiful. Just draw it.

6:48:51 > 6:48:53Sepia Spinning Dude says,

6:48:53 > 6:48:55"How do you get the ideas for your pictures?

6:48:55 > 6:48:57"And are they based on real people?"

6:48:57 > 6:49:00It's an interesting question because I say always,

6:49:00 > 6:49:03"I make them up. They're not based on real people.

6:49:03 > 6:49:05"I just imagine them and invent them."

6:49:05 > 6:49:08Later on, sometimes people come and say,

6:49:08 > 6:49:11"Oh, look, that looks like your friend so-and-so, doesn't it?"

6:49:11 > 6:49:13Red Calm Toucan with a fantastic question.

6:49:13 > 6:49:16"Is it true that you doodled in your school books at school

6:49:16 > 6:49:18"instead of doing your work?"

6:49:18 > 6:49:22Yes, partly true because I did draw in the backs of my exercise books.

6:49:22 > 6:49:23But it wasn't instead of doing my work!

6:49:23 > 6:49:25- Of course not!- I did it as well.

6:49:25 > 6:49:28Aqua Random Anteater - "Did you have to read the Roald Dahl books

6:49:28 > 6:49:30"before you drew the pictures

6:49:30 > 6:49:32"or did Roald Dahl just describe the characters to you?"

6:49:32 > 6:49:34No. You have to read the book.

6:49:34 > 6:49:36You read it all several times.

6:49:36 > 6:49:39Then you do some drawings of what you think the people look like.

6:49:39 > 6:49:42And it was after that, you then go and show them,

6:49:42 > 6:49:43but that's the way to do it.

6:49:43 > 6:49:46- Thank you very much. - Great. Thank you.

6:49:46 > 6:49:49I hoped you enjoyed watching that as much as I enjoyed being here.

6:49:49 > 6:49:51I've just spent half a day with one of my heroes.

6:49:51 > 6:49:52Hopefully it inspired you

6:49:52 > 6:49:55to get out there and start creating your own masterpieces.

6:49:55 > 6:49:57So what are you waiting for? Pick up your scratchy pen

6:49:57 > 6:49:59and start drawing.

6:49:59 > 6:50:02You never know, you could end up with a piece of artwork like that.

6:50:02 > 6:50:04What do we think of that, everybody? Isn't it amazing?

6:50:04 > 6:50:06Quentin Blake, what a legend.

6:50:06 > 6:50:07CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

6:50:07 > 6:50:10We didn't see much of my artwork in that film.

6:50:10 > 6:50:12Let's get a drum roll, please.

6:50:12 > 6:50:13Here we go.

6:50:13 > 6:50:15Yes! OK...

6:50:15 > 6:50:18It's not the best, is it? But it's all about having a go,

6:50:18 > 6:50:21so if you want to enter our poster competition, head online

6:50:21 > 6:50:24for more details. If you think you might need a little more inspiration,

6:50:24 > 6:50:27I asked Quentin what he thinks you should do.

6:50:27 > 6:50:30I thought it might be a good time for you to give some top tips

6:50:30 > 6:50:33on how to design a poster that's eye-catching. What would you do?

6:50:33 > 6:50:37It's important to have one thing that's at the front, as it were,

6:50:37 > 6:50:40and if you can find something that is unusual,

6:50:40 > 6:50:44that people aren't expecting to see, then they think, "Oh, what's that?"

6:50:44 > 6:50:47In the poster, you have to include the words "Blue Peter"

6:50:47 > 6:50:50- and also the badge somewhere. - Yes.- Would you go large on those?

6:50:50 > 6:50:53Would you put them in the background, like a hint to say what you're doing?

6:50:53 > 6:50:57It might be interesting to draw a very unusual person

6:50:57 > 6:50:59with the badge and the writing on them.

6:50:59 > 6:51:01How about that? I'd try that anyway.

6:51:01 > 6:51:04That's how good he is. The ideas just keep coming, it's great.

6:51:04 > 6:51:06Thank you very much.

6:51:06 > 6:51:08If you are thinking about entering

6:51:08 > 6:51:11the Blue Peter Badge Attraction Poster Competition, you'll like this

6:51:11 > 6:51:14because in the studio today, we have an art guru.

6:51:14 > 6:51:16His parents know him as Amandeep Singh,

6:51:16 > 6:51:18but we know him as Inkquisitive.

6:51:18 > 6:51:19Yes!

6:51:19 > 6:51:22CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

6:51:22 > 6:51:24Welcome to Blue Peter, my friend.

6:51:24 > 6:51:28We are surrounded by your fantastic artwork. Tell us a bit about it.

6:51:28 > 6:51:30Well, with the name as Inkquisitive,

6:51:30 > 6:51:32my most common thing to use is Indian inks,

6:51:32 > 6:51:35reason being, because they are bright, colourful and so attractive

6:51:35 > 6:51:38and it brings out so much in artwork.

6:51:38 > 6:51:40It is honestly so much fun to work with.

6:51:40 > 6:51:42And even your turban and earrings are bright.

6:51:42 > 6:51:44100%. Bright is beautiful.

6:51:44 > 6:51:47You are also a judge on the poster competition panel.

6:51:47 > 6:51:49What are you looking out for?

6:51:49 > 6:51:52Firstly, it's a massive honour to be a judge.

6:51:52 > 6:51:54I will be looking out for...

6:51:54 > 6:51:56My favourite saying is "dare to be different".

6:51:56 > 6:51:58Anything different, engaging,

6:51:58 > 6:52:01anything that brings a sense of character

6:52:01 > 6:52:04and unique is what counts for this kind of competition.

6:52:04 > 6:52:07Those elements are what is important.

6:52:07 > 6:52:09- You will give us a nugget of inspiration.- 100%.

6:52:09 > 6:52:12In order to really feel that inspiration,

6:52:12 > 6:52:14we will have four budding artists.

6:52:14 > 6:52:17They go by the name of Matthew, Sam, Amelie and Esme.

6:52:17 > 6:52:19Come, welcome. Welcome.

6:52:19 > 6:52:22Come, gather. Now they're going to get on with art straightaway

6:52:22 > 6:52:24because they are pros. I'll talk to you, Matthew,

6:52:24 > 6:52:26because I know you all love art,

6:52:26 > 6:52:28but what sort of things do you normally create?

6:52:28 > 6:52:30Cartoon characters and comic strips.

6:52:30 > 6:52:33And you're going to try and bring all that to your poster?

6:52:33 > 6:52:34- Yes.- Fantastic.

6:52:34 > 6:52:37Amandeep, I haven't started, you haven't started.

6:52:37 > 6:52:39How would you normally approach something like this?

6:52:39 > 6:52:41Pretty much, really simple, to be honest.

6:52:41 > 6:52:43My favourite thing is using tea bags,

6:52:43 > 6:52:44as you can see, we have some here,

6:52:44 > 6:52:47and getting a normal plain piece of paper.

6:52:47 > 6:52:50I tend to dab, dab, dab, dab.

6:52:50 > 6:52:53I do this because inks flow well with water,

6:52:53 > 6:52:57so once you actually have a teabag-coated A4 piece of paper,

6:52:57 > 6:53:00you will get something that looks like that once it has dried up.

6:53:00 > 6:53:02- It's like a treasure map. - Pretty much.

6:53:02 > 6:53:04Once it's dried up you will have something that looks like this.

6:53:04 > 6:53:06Now, this is the really fun part.

6:53:06 > 6:53:09This is where you get the artwork at the back from.

6:53:09 > 6:53:12It's the use of colour and blending techniques.

6:53:12 > 6:53:16It's really important as well, if you are going to take this approach,

6:53:16 > 6:53:19to use bright colours, like that.

6:53:19 > 6:53:23- OK. You are just randomly doing that?- Pretty much.

6:53:23 > 6:53:26- There's no sort of order to this? - Pretty much.

6:53:26 > 6:53:28Just being a bit free in my artwork.

6:53:28 > 6:53:30Any particular colours?

6:53:30 > 6:53:33My favourite colours are pink and yellow because they blend very well.

6:53:33 > 6:53:35And the reason being, when it is dried up

6:53:35 > 6:53:38and you use that bright and dark contrast,

6:53:38 > 6:53:41you have something that will end up looking like that.

6:53:41 > 6:53:44OK! It's just transformed.

6:53:44 > 6:53:46Pretty much, yeah, exactly.

6:53:46 > 6:53:48And as you go on building colours,

6:53:48 > 6:53:51one of my things is, I like to keep working with it.

6:53:51 > 6:53:53So you can then elaborate that same piece

6:53:53 > 6:53:55and get more colours from that.

6:53:55 > 6:53:58- I love that.- So for this competition

6:53:58 > 6:54:01what I choose to do is, I made stencils.

6:54:01 > 6:54:04Brainstorming the ideas I wanted to work with for the competition,

6:54:04 > 6:54:05I then made some stencils.

6:54:09 > 6:54:11For a poster competition, I would say

6:54:11 > 6:54:13the focus has to be in the middle of the page

6:54:13 > 6:54:16because that is where your eye is going to go straightaway.

6:54:16 > 6:54:18That's a great tip there, centre of the page.

6:54:18 > 6:54:20So using my stencil,

6:54:20 > 6:54:23I would go like this.

6:54:23 > 6:54:26And although you said in the centre, You haven't measured any...

6:54:26 > 6:54:27MUSIC COMES IN BRIEFLY

6:54:27 > 6:54:29We liked it so much we added music,

6:54:29 > 6:54:33- that is how important the centre of the page is!- Quality!

6:54:33 > 6:54:34So yeah, adding a stencil,

6:54:34 > 6:54:37and I think one of the fun things about art is,

6:54:37 > 6:54:39and this is the best part of the body of the work,

6:54:39 > 6:54:42once you have an idea and a brainstorm,

6:54:42 > 6:54:45you keep working with those elements and you keep going on with it.

6:54:45 > 6:54:47That is absolutely fantastic,

6:54:47 > 6:54:50just with a pen, it lifts it straight off the page.

6:54:50 > 6:54:53To get to that, are there any things that the Blue Peter viewers

6:54:53 > 6:54:55who want to enter the competition should think about?

6:54:55 > 6:54:57I think the most important thing is

6:54:57 > 6:54:59making sure that you don't single out any one attraction,

6:54:59 > 6:55:02making sure you kind of focus on various things.

6:55:02 > 6:55:03Also, I know it's a given,

6:55:03 > 6:55:05but make sure you have the words "Blue Peter"

6:55:05 > 6:55:07or that element of Blue Peter in there.

6:55:07 > 6:55:11And lastly, most importantly, make sure it's bright, creative, colourful
