:00:00. > :00:00.machine, please. So awkward it had! Keep your stories coming into CBBC.

:00:00. > :00:15.We will share more right after Blue Peter.

:00:16. > :00:25.Right guys, are we set for the Medieval Mayhem? Costume, check.

:00:26. > :00:35.Horses check... What abouts horses? Leave that to me.

:00:36. > :00:41.Wow! That was coal. -- cool.

:00:42. > :00:51.CHEERING AND APPLAUSE Hello and welcome! We welcome to a

:00:52. > :01:02.very live Blue Peter. We are having a medieval pest.

:01:03. > :01:07.I have come as a knight. However, I am sir from

:01:08. > :01:12.Wolverhampton. What about you, Barney? Princess

:01:13. > :01:15.Barney. Welcome to medieval England. We have

:01:16. > :01:20.built this show today. It is awesome. We also have a medieval

:01:21. > :01:24.crowd. Give us a cheer. Coming up on the show, I am having a

:01:25. > :01:34.go at jousting. What? If you don't know what that

:01:35. > :01:40.is, check this out. Oh, my goodness. Lindsey, which are you? Hopefully

:01:41. > :01:52.the one on the horse! And Barney and I will be duelling like these

:01:53. > :01:59.guys... Stand back! Oh, oh, OK, then. How cool was that?! Wow, good

:02:00. > :02:04.luck, guys. We are so doing that later on.

:02:05. > :02:09.Will you still have the wig on? Yep. L Shelley is hiding. You know what

:02:10. > :02:12.you are doing. The first person it get in touch wins a medieval bag of

:02:13. > :02:18.gold. I want it! Taking things from the

:02:19. > :02:23.medieval times to the future. Well, a couple of weeks ago I went down a

:02:24. > :02:28.hill on a bike. You know what, sometimes it is nice to get out and

:02:29. > :02:33.about. Breathe in the fresh air, soaking up the scenery. It is worth

:02:34. > :02:40.doing something like that ever once in a while. Then again, it is also

:02:41. > :02:45.worth doing something extreme. And downhill mountain biking is extreme.

:02:46. > :02:49.Flying down off trail roads on specialist bikes as fast as humanly

:02:50. > :02:57.possible! I'm in the Scottish Borders to give it a go. My expert

:02:58. > :03:03.guides are these guys. Emily and Corinne are some of the best around.

:03:04. > :03:06.Their dad used to be a professional rider.

:03:07. > :03:11.Firstly, how do you explain the sport of mountain biking? It is

:03:12. > :03:16.rough terrain. Gravel. You are not on the road. It is all over the

:03:17. > :03:20.place. Jumps, drops. When you learned to ride a bike, how

:03:21. > :03:27.old were you? Two years and four months.

:03:28. > :03:33.OK. After that? It was all downhill from there! No. Now, your dad

:03:34. > :03:39.happens to be awesome as this, doesn't he? Yes, he is awesome.

:03:40. > :03:43.When did you standard, tat? When he was 18 for fun.

:03:44. > :03:49.Here we are now, all of these years later. How must the bike be

:03:50. > :03:56.different? Let's start with the tyre, Emily? The tyres are thicker.

:03:57. > :04:03.What is important about the handle bars? The handle bars must be wide

:04:04. > :04:08.so you have more control. I don't think it would matter if my

:04:09. > :04:14.handle bars were this wide. I will still wobble. I will need a bike,

:04:15. > :04:20.won't I? Yep. Are you showing me the ropes? Yep.

:04:21. > :04:28.OK, show me the way. Once they are happy with my safety,

:04:29. > :04:35.Crawford has advice about peddles. Going flat, the peddles should be

:04:36. > :04:39.level. On the corner if you go to the right, put your right foot down,

:04:40. > :04:43.and to the left, down on the left peddle. Pushing into the corner will

:04:44. > :04:51.give you more grip. A great tip. I have the basics but

:04:52. > :04:56.the challenge of the downhill bike are the a be stackles along the

:04:57. > :05:00.trail. Get it wrong, it could be nasty. I have tackle my first rocky

:05:01. > :05:05.patch. This looks fun.

:05:06. > :05:10.You will have to be confident. Lean back. And before you do it, don't

:05:11. > :05:13.brake. Make sure you commit before you go down it. Then you should be

:05:14. > :05:18.good. Really? Well, this is probably the

:05:19. > :05:24.scariest thing I have done for a while.

:05:25. > :05:28.Is it happening? It feels unnatural to ride over the rocks, rather than

:05:29. > :05:34.around them. I may have to have another go. Here

:05:35. > :05:40.we go. No. No. It is so hard to go for it! I'll come back round and try

:05:41. > :05:44.again. Come on, Barney, third time lucky. Here we go, oh, my goodness.

:05:45. > :05:50.That was amazing. Yes! Nailed it. There is some truth

:05:51. > :05:55.in the saying if at first you don't succeed, try again. I proved that.

:05:56. > :06:03.That was OK? That was good. What is next? A hard one.

:06:04. > :06:07.That wasn't the hard one? Nope! As if the riding over the rocks was not

:06:08. > :06:12.difficult enough, the hardest one is this, a drop. That is exactly what

:06:13. > :06:17.it looks like. You drop off that.

:06:18. > :06:23.Do you? Yep. The only way to safely come off a

:06:24. > :06:29.drop is to fully commit. Easy. Lean back and push the bike forward.

:06:30. > :06:33.It lites the wheel up so you don't go forward and then you land safely.

:06:34. > :06:42.Hopefully. To me, from the top this feels big.

:06:43. > :06:48.Oh, it is terrifying! He make it is! Look at that! I've learned so much

:06:49. > :06:59.in such a short space of time. Which is lucky, really, as my challenge

:07:00. > :07:03.hasn't even started. Tomorrow, the Mountain Bike World

:07:04. > :07:10.Cup is taking place three hours down the road. I am riding down a trail.

:07:11. > :07:18.Can I keep my nerve through every twist, turn, jump?!

:07:19. > :07:23.CHEERING AND APPLAUSE! So much fun! Barney, I want to see part two.

:07:24. > :07:35.Stay tuned for that. What is going on over there? Whoa! Yes! Mate, they

:07:36. > :07:40.are not holding back. That is what I'm talking about. Give it up for

:07:41. > :07:44.the knights of Warwick Castle! Confirm you are friends in real

:07:45. > :07:48.life! We are. Let's talk about the art of

:07:49. > :07:55.southward fighting, how far it goes back? The sword dates back to the

:07:56. > :08:00.bronze age. And as the swords developed you ended up with the

:08:01. > :08:03.weapon of choice for your medieval knight.

:08:04. > :08:10.Do people always ask that question when you are out of breath? Sorry

:08:11. > :08:17.about that! How are you a good swordsman. A good swordsman is

:08:18. > :08:23.strong, cunning. How do you dual? Firstly, you must

:08:24. > :08:28.know how to hold the sword. I have to say that this is a

:08:29. > :08:34.especially blunted blade. I, however, have sharpened mine! Now

:08:35. > :08:40.the stance. So spread the legs and drop into the knees to give yourself

:08:41. > :08:46.a good centre of gravity, to be able to avoid attacks.

:08:47. > :08:53.Why do have a little one? I don't trust him. Shall I keep my eyes on

:08:54. > :08:58.him Yes, a good knight should never take his eyes off his opponent.

:08:59. > :09:03.I have to say, we have tried this at home. So don't you try it at home as

:09:04. > :09:06.we have had a little bit of practice.

:09:07. > :09:16.Are we ready? Why. Leg! Shoulder! Very good. That

:09:17. > :09:25.concludes the knight's training. I had sand in my eye. Have another go.

:09:26. > :09:31.Head, shoulder, legs! What do you reckon? It looks like you are ready

:09:32. > :09:35.for battle. Really? I would love that. Having said that, this is

:09:36. > :09:42.simple compared to what Lindsey is about to do. Check this out.

:09:43. > :09:53.Yes. Welcome to Blue Peter. I am giving jousting a go. Who is with

:09:54. > :09:58.you? This is our beautiful horse. She even has a Blue Peter package on

:09:59. > :10:07.her?! I love that. So, tell me about the jousting?

:10:08. > :10:17.Jousting was a competition it was a show of horsemanship.

:10:18. > :10:21.There were men and women jousters. We are getting you on a horse to get

:10:22. > :10:26.you to strike the quintaine. You have to hit the shield. If you don't

:10:27. > :10:30.hit it prop Earl, the ball and the chain comes around to knock you on

:10:31. > :10:35.the back. Well, brilliant. Shall I get on the

:10:36. > :10:42.horse? I'm nervous about this. Hand on there and then there. Bend

:10:43. > :10:48.your leg back. One, two, three, up. Sorry, Mardy! You are in? Yes.

:10:49. > :10:51.You have the stirrups and the controls.

:10:52. > :10:57.OK. She will not run off? Not at all. I will look after you. I will

:10:58. > :11:03.be with you. Obviously a knight takes years to practice.

:11:04. > :11:09.This is my lance? Yes, a heavy lance, 12ft in length. I want you to

:11:10. > :11:12.bring it down and hold it as high as you can in your armpit.

:11:13. > :11:16.. Is Mehdi OK? She is. Just don't hit

:11:17. > :11:23.her on the head. Oops! That is down.

:11:24. > :11:29.Track it across and when you see the shield give it an almighty whack.

:11:30. > :11:36.Do you want to see how it is done? Yes, let's watch the boys in action.

:11:37. > :11:39.Let's watch a Lancastrian knight, Jules.

:11:40. > :11:43.OK. Is that what you expect from me? Yes.

:11:44. > :11:47.OK. Let's give it a go. It's Blue Peter. Should I have a go, guys?

:11:48. > :11:55.ALL SPEAK AT ONCE Yes! So, this is your quintaine.

:11:56. > :12:03.Have a look at it. Keep your eyes on your opponent at all times.

:12:04. > :12:08.Shall we try it fast? We trained a little bit but it's the live show,

:12:09. > :12:19.let's have a go at it. I may regret saying that.

:12:20. > :12:27.You are going to kick Mardy, and hold on tight and aim that in there.

:12:28. > :12:31.Go, go, go! Oh, I may have slightly just... Did I miss that? The ball

:12:32. > :12:38.was that close. There we go.

:12:39. > :12:42.Thank you so much. I will try to get off Mardy, I am glad she has a

:12:43. > :12:47.badge. Let's have a look at our badge wall.

:12:48. > :12:53.Let's have a look at our post. Last week I was a little naughty. I

:12:54. > :12:59.thought it hilarious. Hannah and Daniel made me oven gloves, the oven

:13:00. > :13:04.I was in last week was not a real one, a prop one. But I have got some

:13:05. > :13:15.oven gloves. Boos? They are not booing the gloves

:13:16. > :13:17.but the jousting! So, oven glove, amazing. Blue Peter badges on their

:13:18. > :13:25.way. Thank you very much.

:13:26. > :13:30.Felix, is eight. He has done a beautiful Meercat. It is on my

:13:31. > :13:37.shoulder. I have my classic T-shirt on. Felix

:13:38. > :13:42.looked how to draw meerkats from an encyclopaedia.

:13:43. > :13:49.Some people find it complicated but that is simples! That is great. And

:13:50. > :13:58.Asa from Coventry, you have won a badge as you made this beautiful

:13:59. > :14:08.minion picture. I love it, Asa. Speaking of minions I am excited as

:14:09. > :14:20.I got to meet Steve Carell and cares cares cares. Have a look at this.

:14:21. > :14:29.If you watch too much TV, your eyes will go square. Because I said so.

:14:30. > :14:35.The whole world does not revolve around you. There is even more of

:14:36. > :14:49.that on the website, so check that out. Happy dance. There she goes.

:14:50. > :14:55.Now it is part two of a film earlier where I rode downhill on a bike, and

:14:56. > :14:59.now I ride downhill on another bite. Earlier I got a lesson on downhill

:15:00. > :15:05.mountain biking from two of the best two riders in the UK. Now it is time

:15:06. > :15:11.for me to take on one of the courses at the mountain bike World Cup this

:15:12. > :15:15.year being held in Fort William. My instructors will also be competing,

:15:16. > :15:20.taking on the same trail as myself. We need to get a look at the

:15:21. > :15:25.obstacles we are facing. What are you doing to get prepared? We are

:15:26. > :15:32.walking the course and choosing our fastest lines. My brakes will be on

:15:33. > :15:38.the majority of the time. Shall we have a look? If I was to work out

:15:39. > :15:43.which bits to ride around, I would go for that bit there. It will not

:15:44. > :15:49.be easy. Then you have to go all the way round. I would reckon go through

:15:50. > :15:56.here because you do not want to go through the quick mode. You have to

:15:57. > :16:00.make very quick decisions. You have to choose your line before you go

:16:01. > :16:07.and memorise the cause. Know what is going to happen next. Brilliant

:16:08. > :16:11.tips. They head out onto the mountain for their runs and they are

:16:12. > :16:16.both tipped to do very well. If they do, they will not be the first

:16:17. > :16:20.brother and sister champions. I caught up with another pair of

:16:21. > :16:26.mountain biking superstars. I am at the start of my career, have you got

:16:27. > :16:31.any highlights? I have been five times world champion and we won the

:16:32. > :16:34.home World Cup at Fort William together. These kids could

:16:35. > :16:41.experience that today with their siblings. What are your top tips?

:16:42. > :16:45.The first bit of advice is to go steady. It is a great sport, but it

:16:46. > :16:50.can be dangerous and a lot can go wrong. The best way is to ease into

:16:51. > :16:55.it. It is great to get tips like that, but as I make my way to the

:16:56. > :17:03.start line, the nerves start to kick in. The course is 500 metres of

:17:04. > :17:10.farce paste to rain. But then the rain begins. What was a glorious,

:17:11. > :17:14.sunny day has turned into winter weather. I quite like it. But things

:17:15. > :17:24.will be a bit more slippy than I like. 90 is on track. Wish me luck.

:17:25. > :17:28.He is offered. The course is really slippy, so I have to take it slowly

:17:29. > :17:37.to begin with to get used to the trail and the conditions. I start to

:17:38. > :17:41.build confidence and till... I lose momentum and put my foot down. I am

:17:42. > :17:48.annoyed with myself, I do not want to do that again. It is so wet and

:17:49. > :17:54.rainy that I am convinced I am going to slip and I am using my brakes. I

:17:55. > :18:02.am beginning to pick up the pace and start to spot obstacles earlier. My

:18:03. > :18:08.training is paying off. All we have to do is make it round to the end,

:18:09. > :18:18.that is all I have to do. Coming down through the tunnel. This bit

:18:19. > :18:25.will be slippy. Mate, I am doing it. But then I come across the biggest

:18:26. > :18:36.drop on the course. It is a bit terrifying. Are you kidding? I have

:18:37. > :18:41.just got to go for it. Yes, I did it. That was the bit I was scared

:18:42. > :18:50.of. I am so chuffed I made it. The end is in sight. I genuinely thought

:18:51. > :18:53.I was going to fall off on a couple of occasions, but the challenge was

:18:54. > :19:04.to make it to the end and I have done it. I enjoyed it, give it a go,

:19:05. > :19:09.you will love it. And Koren and Emily's standard is the very best,

:19:10. > :19:15.they end the weekend as champions. How are you feeling? Excited. I did

:19:16. > :19:20.not expect to come first? What about you? It was hard and there was a lot

:19:21. > :19:25.of peddling and I had no idea I would come first. I am so proud to

:19:26. > :19:30.go from beginner to run at the World Cup in a short space of time and a

:19:31. > :19:36.lot of that is down to my coaches, two young people who have got big

:19:37. > :19:41.futures in downhill biking. If you are wondering why I was on

:19:42. > :19:45.the first position on the podium it was because I was awarded the

:19:46. > :19:49.slowest time of the day. Have a go and give it a try and enjoy

:19:50. > :19:59.yourself. I cannot talk about how good I am on two will wheels when I

:20:00. > :20:05.am standing next to mark Beaumont. Give him a cheer. You are about to

:20:06. > :20:09.go around the world in 80 days. That is the plan, can you get around the

:20:10. > :20:15.planet in 80 days? I did it ten years ago. Trying to do something

:20:16. > :20:19.first or fastest, I have always been inspired by the Guinness Book of

:20:20. > :20:25.Records and we are starting out in two days' time. This is you on a

:20:26. > :20:30.push bike. The last time I did it I had no idea where I was going to end

:20:31. > :20:34.up and everyday I had to find a meal and this time it is about

:20:35. > :20:42.performance because I will have back-up. You are hoping to shave off

:20:43. > :20:46.43 days off the record. Yes, I am. I was 12 years old when I first got on

:20:47. > :20:51.a bike and cycled across Scotland and have been doing adventures ever

:20:52. > :20:58.since. I would love people to follow this adventure and say, what is my

:20:59. > :21:02.80 days? What am I capable of? You are very modest and you are a super

:21:03. > :21:08.trained athlete, but what you are about to do is colossal. 16 hours a

:21:09. > :21:13.day in the saddle and 240 miles every day. 8000 calories of food,

:21:14. > :21:18.three times more than what you should eat as an adult, the next

:21:19. > :21:26.level. You will struggle a moment on that bicycle, you might need that.

:21:27. > :21:31.My team are already in Paris and I am going to go from Blue Peter here

:21:32. > :21:36.over Tibet and pick up my bike. And it is not just about the bike and

:21:37. > :21:41.you and the water, it is about this little girl. Shelley, I hope she is

:21:42. > :21:45.quick. She will be popping up around the planet and it is a cool way to

:21:46. > :21:51.follow the journey and learn about the world we live in. It is an

:21:52. > :21:54.18,000 miles journey over the next two and half months. Head over to

:21:55. > :22:00.the website to follow Shelley and Mark as they followed the route on

:22:01. > :22:04.the journey. You have come dressed for an occasion to show us what you

:22:05. > :22:11.are doing. We do not know why we are dressed like this. We are gathered

:22:12. > :22:15.here today because of events that happened over 500 years ago and I am

:22:16. > :22:22.joined by our wonderful historian Melissa. Tell me more. The team at

:22:23. > :22:26.Warwick Castle have created this show which represents the War of the

:22:27. > :22:29.Roses and the battles and the conflicts and the fight for the

:22:30. > :22:37.power behind the throne. This conflict lasted 30 years. That is a

:22:38. > :22:41.long time. Who was fighting? There are two lines of the same royal

:22:42. > :22:46.house, the House of York and the House of Lancaster. You have got

:22:47. > :22:51.Richard III and Edward IV and finishing off with Henry VII. This

:22:52. > :22:56.might be a silly question, but what have the Roses to do with it? They

:22:57. > :23:02.either symbols, Lancaster were the red rose and your was the white

:23:03. > :23:11.rose. That is why these guys are here dressed in red and white.

:23:12. > :23:15.Hello. Hello! We have a school from Lancaster representing the red House

:23:16. > :23:19.of Lancaster. And a school from Yorkshire who are looking after the

:23:20. > :23:27.White House of Europe. Give us a cheer. Anyone that knows me knows I

:23:28. > :23:33.love of facts. Do we have any facts about the War of the Roses? Both

:23:34. > :23:39.sides on some battles and lost some battles during the war. It was not a

:23:40. > :23:44.one-sided affair. And what about you? Sam English nobles even

:23:45. > :23:55.switched sides depending on which team was winning. The traitors.

:23:56. > :24:03.Barney. I have some facts as well. Both sides... Both sides went Berg

:24:04. > :24:14.and that was the end of the war. Try again. Both sides were related to

:24:15. > :24:21.each other. I round of applause, the best fact of the day. Jacob. A new

:24:22. > :24:30.house was created in the end. What was all the fighting about? What is

:24:31. > :24:34.this new royal house about? The new royal house came towards the end of

:24:35. > :24:40.the war in the final battle in the Battle of Bosworth when Richard III

:24:41. > :24:43.was defeated by Henry Tudor. He was from Lancaster and he married

:24:44. > :24:46.Elizabeth of York to combine the two families and the red and white roses

:24:47. > :24:52.would join together to create the Tudor Rose. You have condensed all
