:00:14. > :00:18.Hold on to your seats because on today's Blue Peter I'll be
:00:18. > :00:25.attempted to fulfil a life-long dream of taking control of a plane
:00:25. > :00:30.and flying loop-the-loop. I am flying the plane at the moment.
:00:30. > :00:33.hands are not on the controls. doing this all by myself. With
:00:33. > :00:38.torrential rain blasting the UK, we want to know how the extreme
:00:38. > :00:41.conditions are affecting you. Plus one of the daring doctors from the
:00:41. > :00:51.new CBBC show Operation Ouch is here to check out your cuts and
:00:51. > :01:02.
:01:02. > :01:05.APPLAUSE Hello. Welcome to Blue Peter. Oh,
:01:05. > :01:10.yes that sound effect leads us nicely into what we're going to be
:01:10. > :01:13.talking about, the weather. Have you seen it the past few days? We
:01:13. > :01:17.have had the worst weather from 30 years this September. Up and down
:01:17. > :01:23.the country everybody has been affected. This is in Newcastle.
:01:24. > :01:28.There has been landslides all over the place. This is in Newham where
:01:28. > :01:32.they filmed the training ground for dogs in Tracy Beaker. Lots of
:01:32. > :01:38.people have been forced to leave their homes. There is a road up the
:01:38. > :01:43.country, the A1 that was completely underwater. 100 cars were stuck in
:01:43. > :01:47.that. If we go south we can go to Somerset. Apparently people in this
:01:47. > :01:51.area haven't seen weather this bad in the past ten years. The whole
:01:51. > :01:55.village was cut all. That wasn't a river. That was someone's street.
:01:55. > :01:59.We want to know how bad things have been near you. Get in touch with us
:01:59. > :02:05.and let us know where you are. How extreme has the weather been? How
:02:05. > :02:10.has it affected you? Maybe it has forced you to stay away from school
:02:10. > :02:14.- I stay forced - it might be a good thing. E-mail us, and we'll
:02:14. > :02:17.add you to our map a little bit later in the school. Yesterday I
:02:17. > :02:21.went to see two girls who told me about the weather where they were.
:02:21. > :02:23.Apparently the water was up to their knees. When I found out about
:02:23. > :02:27.that I had to have a look for myself.
:02:27. > :02:33.As you may have seen on the news recently the UK has suffered its
:02:33. > :02:39.wettest September in 30 years. So much rain has fallen, it has caused
:02:39. > :02:43.rivers to burst their banks and schools were flooded. You were in
:02:43. > :02:46.school, having a normal day, then the Fire Brigade turned up, didn't
:02:46. > :02:50.they? What happened? Well, the river was where I am standing now.
:02:50. > :02:56.It went up to them gates. We had to get evacuated. That was a good fun,
:02:56. > :02:59.though, wasn't it? At about 2.00pm. So by 2.00pm, the Fire Brigade
:02:59. > :03:03.attendant said it was too wet. Teachers can't get in and out of
:03:03. > :03:07.the school. The parents can't pick you up. Go home and have fun. Some
:03:07. > :03:12.people's gardens have been flooded as well, right? Yeah. We met Ellie,
:03:12. > :03:15.whose garden looked like this just yesterday. You have a brook that
:03:15. > :03:18.runs alongside your house just there. Because the rainfall - so
:03:18. > :03:23.much of it had fallen that had burst, and it was up to the
:03:23. > :03:27.trampoline. It was that high. How much of the garden was actually
:03:27. > :03:31.flooded? Most of it around here, but down the back bit wasn't really
:03:31. > :03:36.flooded. What are you doing now to make sure it doesn't flood again?
:03:36. > :03:41.We've put some bricks down by the front door and some bags by the
:03:41. > :03:45.fencing. I tell you what, let's go and get a cup of tea and warm up.
:03:45. > :03:49.Sound good? Yeah. That is the good thing about it - the sense of
:03:49. > :03:53.community, everyone helping each other out and drinking lots of tea.
:03:53. > :03:58.If you have been affected, don't forget to get in touch and tell us
:03:59. > :04:03.what happened where you are. Lots of people in the town I am from got
:04:03. > :04:07.flooded. Let us know where you are so we can add you to our map. If
:04:07. > :04:10.you have pictures of the chaos, do get in touch. One of the good
:04:10. > :04:14.things about being a Blue Peter presenter - I am doing that because
:04:14. > :04:19.I am getting excited... I am so excited. We're really lucky. We get
:04:19. > :04:26.to do some pretty amazing things. Last year, a year ago exactly, to
:04:26. > :04:31.arrive at Media City I got to ride in a jet ski, and climbed a mast on
:04:31. > :04:35.a scary ship - the cutty Sark. This is me taking part in the street
:04:35. > :04:39.luge. You kicked that guy off. didn't. I came second because I
:04:39. > :04:44.raced a guy off. Because you kicked a guy off. The one thing I have
:04:44. > :04:48.always wanted to do since I was a boy is fly a plane, do aerobatics,
:04:48. > :04:51.that kind of thing. The people here at Blue Peter decided rather than
:04:52. > :04:55.just deciding to fly a plane, they'd like to set me challenge as
:04:55. > :04:59.well. Here is what happened. I am about to embark on a journey which
:04:59. > :05:03.could see me take to the skies like never before. Have you ever wanted
:05:03. > :05:08.to soar through the clouds free as a bird or like Superman? Well, so
:05:08. > :05:18.have I. And today, I'm going to be learning to perform a stunt in one
:05:18. > :05:19.
:05:19. > :05:27.Now, that was just a simple takeoff, but today, I'm going to be learning
:05:27. > :05:31.to perform the classic loop-the- loop - cannot wait. I should point
:05:31. > :05:35.out that today is just the training, but if my training is successful
:05:35. > :05:41.and these guys think I am ready for it, I am going to be performing the
:05:41. > :05:46.stunt at the Bournemouth Air Show. I will be flying with the Blades,
:05:47. > :05:50.who are an aerobatic display team and have taken part in some amazing
:05:50. > :05:56.shows including the Queen's diamond jubilee as well as a host of
:05:56. > :05:59.British air festivals. Since they formed in 2006 they have flown in
:05:59. > :06:07.over a hundred shows worldwide. They're the best of the best,
:06:07. > :06:11.former RAF and Red Arrows pilots. Speed is their friend, and they're
:06:11. > :06:14.expected to perform death-defying stunts in front of millions all
:06:14. > :06:20.over the world. Normally, you can set your watch by them, but I can't
:06:20. > :06:25.seem to find them. Yes, these guys don't only look
:06:26. > :06:29.good, but they're also record breakers. Last year they completed
:06:29. > :06:36.26 consecutive loop-the-loops, a new world record, so I am in the
:06:36. > :06:40.most capable hands when attempting this stunt, Andy Evans has over 25
:06:40. > :06:43.years' experience. He's going to mentor me through this exciting,
:06:43. > :06:46.but risky, exercise. He'll decide whether I get the chance to perform
:06:46. > :06:50.a loop-the-loop at the Bournemouth Air Show. These planes are a little
:06:50. > :06:53.bit different to the planes we see in the sky. They can do so many
:06:53. > :06:57.things. They are absolutely completely different to any
:06:57. > :07:01.aircraft I flew in the air force as well. They're purpose built to do
:07:01. > :07:04.extreme aerobatics. This dual- controlled aircraft is called the
:07:04. > :07:07.Extra 300, and now he's going to run through some of the key
:07:07. > :07:12.instruments. Put that on. That's a master switch. That turns on
:07:12. > :07:16.everything. Air speed - how fast am I going? Also, how fast am I going
:07:16. > :07:20.- that's the altimeter. That tells me how high I am. Even if you have
:07:20. > :07:23.the stick in your hand, it's not just left and right. You have to
:07:23. > :07:29.know all these things by heart. You're going to teach me a stunt I
:07:29. > :07:33.am going to do on my own? Correct. You're going to do a stunt. I won't
:07:33. > :07:38.be touching the controls. You will be flying the aeroplane. That's the
:07:38. > :07:42.first thing that made me nervous. The second thing is G-force. Can
:07:42. > :07:47.you explain what that is? Certainly. At the moment, everyone on the
:07:47. > :07:54.ground experiences 1G, earth gravity. That's what's holding us
:07:54. > :08:00.on the ground. With yourself, we're going to go do maybe 6G or maybe 0G.
:08:00. > :08:04.At 6G, suddenly you're going to go up to half a tonne. Amazing, like a
:08:04. > :08:06.visit to my favourite burger restaurant so G force is like an
:08:06. > :08:11.invisible pressure you can feel while you're flying. My Grandad
:08:11. > :08:14.used to work for British Aerospace. From the age of six, I have sat in
:08:14. > :08:19.my a cockpit from being a small person over the years. He used to
:08:19. > :08:22.take me there all the time to hangar five. I am doing it for my
:08:22. > :08:26.Grandad more than anything else. He's not here to see this, but for
:08:26. > :08:30.me it's a double whammy today. I am doing it for my Grandad, and
:08:30. > :08:34.hopefully for thousands of people in Bournemouth today. For you.
:08:34. > :08:38.Let's see how today goes. We'll see if you're up to it, then make a
:08:38. > :08:44.decision whether you can go and fly there. But I don't look the part,
:08:44. > :08:49.do I? I don't think so. I think it's time to get you kitted up.
:08:49. > :08:53.Because I am flying today it's a must I wear a parachute. He gives
:08:53. > :08:58.me some useful tips. The important thing you need to know is the D
:08:58. > :09:01.ring is there on your left-hand side. Take this hand and put it
:09:01. > :09:06.straight out. This first flight is for Andy to give me a taster of
:09:06. > :09:09.what the plane can really do. We can start to do some more advanced
:09:09. > :09:13.stuff later on. I need to pay full attention because next time, it
:09:13. > :09:19.will be my turn. When I was about six years old, I built my own
:09:19. > :09:29.version of this plane. It had pillows, a duvet and a bunk bed me
:09:29. > :09:29.
:09:29. > :09:34.and my brother shared. This really All happy? I am very happy, yes.
:09:34. > :09:44.Give them a good wave. This is like winning the lottery for me. We'll
:09:44. > :09:55.
:09:55. > :09:59.So how are you feeling? I am 100%. Well, I thought I was 100%. Whoa! I
:09:59. > :10:06.am sweating. I have that sort of - just before you're about to be sick
:10:06. > :10:10.feeling. I'm so glad we finally landed. I
:10:10. > :10:17.feel a little bit queasy. It's weird. I get travel sick. People
:10:17. > :10:19.know that I do get travel sick, but it's normally that slow movement
:10:19. > :10:29.like seasickness. I am very conscious of what I have had for
:10:29. > :10:31.
:10:31. > :10:35.breakfast. Lovely. Get some nice My legs feel like jelly.
:10:35. > :10:41.I'm really gutted. I was hoping to come down like the guy out of the
:10:41. > :10:51.movie with a slow-motion walk, yeah, that was amazing. We just did a
:10:51. > :10:51.
:10:51. > :10:54.loop, and instead I am like some Andy has told me to stay on the
:10:54. > :11:04.ground specifically for this bit. These boys are in the air to show
:11:04. > :11:09.
:11:09. > :11:12.us what they can really do. That's Phenomenal. If you look at the
:11:12. > :11:16.wings, you'll notice there are little cameras on the end of them.
:11:16. > :11:19.They're not there just for us today. They're there as a matter of
:11:19. > :11:24.training because what they do is they film themselves while they're
:11:24. > :11:28.in the air, go into a classroom when they land and review the
:11:28. > :11:36.footage to make sure everything is absolutely spot on. These guys are
:11:36. > :11:39.When you first joined Blue Peter, you said you wanted to do this. You
:11:39. > :11:44.were desperate to do it. He knows so much about planes when he talks
:11:44. > :11:54.about them, I think he's talking a foreign language. I am quite boring.
:11:54. > :11:54.
:11:54. > :11:59.How desperate were you to do the loop-the-loop? I wanted to do that
:11:59. > :12:02.since I was young. Right, you travel-sick monkey. Let's move on
:12:02. > :12:06.because next week there's new show called Operation Ouch starting.
:12:06. > :12:14.It's all about the amazing things our bodies do when they get bruised,
:12:14. > :12:21.bumped or worse - have a look. Dr Chris. I am Dr Zahn. Join us for
:12:21. > :12:26.a brand new series where we let cameras in to join medical teams.
:12:26. > :12:30.We'll be showing you all the incredible things your body can do
:12:30. > :12:35.and discovering some macing facts. That's so fascinating, I am
:12:35. > :12:39.completely distracted from how disgusting it is. Operation Ouch.
:12:39. > :12:47.I am delighted to say the one half of the Operation Ouch team - sorry,
:12:47. > :12:51.I just hit you. It's all right. Hello, Dr Chris. Nice to see you.
:12:51. > :12:56.Take a seat. Make yourself comfortable. What seems to be the
:12:56. > :13:02.problem? You guys tell me. You have been showing me all your cuts and
:13:02. > :13:05.scrapes and scratches. "What about this?" Look at this! Look at this.
:13:05. > :13:09.In this new show, you work alongside your identical twin,
:13:09. > :13:14.don't you? What's he like? It's brilliant. He's genetically the
:13:14. > :13:19.same as me. We're good mates. He lives in the United States. He came
:13:19. > :13:24.over. We did all sorts of experiments together. We used a
:13:24. > :13:28.kitchen towel to dry out his tongue to show that when you dry out your
:13:28. > :13:34.tongue, you can't taste anything. How did it work He can't see it's
:13:34. > :13:40.chocolate. We put it on. He can't taste it because to dissolve the
:13:40. > :13:44.chocolate molecules from China, you need saliva. So he couldn't tell?
:13:44. > :13:52.No. Just dry the tongue, kitchen tongue. How many people are going
:13:52. > :13:57.to be trying that now! What's nice about that is after being mean to
:13:57. > :14:03.your brother... He gets a reward. You do some pretty gross things as
:14:03. > :14:10.well. As soon as you say chocolate... We did experiments
:14:10. > :14:16.like - we stuck things down each other's noses... Leave it alone.
:14:16. > :14:20.Where's his toy? We did an experiment with sneezing.
:14:20. > :14:24.I didn't know that when you sneeze, nothing comes out your nose. We did
:14:24. > :14:28.this - made each other sneeze sticking bits of kitchen roll up
:14:28. > :14:33.the nose. So nothing other than kitchen roll... Just to make us
:14:33. > :14:37.sneeze. What does this prove? it shows is when you sneeze all the
:14:37. > :14:41.germs come out of your mouth, not your nose, which I didn't know. I
:14:41. > :14:46.have been a doctor ten years. This is sugar-coloured cream. It's a
:14:46. > :14:50.great way to show that. If you're doing that, you don't want to shake
:14:50. > :14:56.hand with someone after. someone you like. Can you sneeze
:14:56. > :15:00.with your eyes open? No, if you open your eyes, they fly out,
:15:01. > :15:07.probably not true. I always cover my eyes when I sneeze! Wouldn't it
:15:07. > :15:10.be great if you could, though? We could spend years talking about
:15:10. > :15:15.that, but let's talk about the scrape and bruises you get.
:15:15. > :15:20.We do some amazing things on Blue Peter, but you inevitably take some
:15:20. > :15:25.bumps and bruises. My feet are in a terrible state. They're kind of
:15:25. > :15:29.trotters rather than feet. I can see that. Is this you? I was trying
:15:29. > :15:34.to kick a football. I didn't kick the football. I kicked the plinth
:15:34. > :15:40.it was on instead. It's a bit of a nasty cut. It looks deep, but my
:15:40. > :15:45.foot will heal, won't it? Hopefully it has. You have taken the top
:15:45. > :15:49.layer of skin. Did this bleed? You have taken off the top layer of
:15:49. > :15:53.skin and exposed the blood and vessels underneath. The skin will
:15:53. > :15:57.grow over it, but that must have hurt. The body is magic, isn't it,
:15:57. > :16:01.if it can just regrow. It is amazing. The more I learn about the
:16:01. > :16:07.body, I thinks this is a bizarre, sci-fi self-healing machine.
:16:07. > :16:11.asked a lot of our viewers to e- mail in and show us some of their
:16:11. > :16:15.injuries. This is Imogen. She's my God daughter. I didn't know she was
:16:15. > :16:20.going to write in. She's good fun. I am not surprised. She place very
:16:20. > :16:23.aggressively and has a lot of fun, and - I don't know... These are
:16:23. > :16:33.scabs on her knees. She fell over on her first day in a new house.
:16:33. > :16:41.
:16:42. > :16:51.That is white blood cells coming into the area to eat burgers and
:16:52. > :16:54.
:16:55. > :17:04.debris. This black stuff is a stab. A scab is like a dome of over the
:17:04. > :17:11.area. I led the way the dog is sitting and staring. -- I love the
:17:11. > :17:21.way. Let's meet Poppy. She has a sling. She broke her collarbone.
:17:21. > :17:29.This is tilted on her side. This is the clavicle, the collarbone. These
:17:29. > :17:34.two N's will join up in a sling. How do bones heal? Bones are not
:17:34. > :17:39.made of stone. They are living tissue. This thing will help the
:17:39. > :17:48.two ends come together and they will grow back. It will heal very
:17:48. > :17:58.strongly. That must have been painful. I imagine show -- I
:17:58. > :17:59.
:17:59. > :18:07.imagine so. She gave herself a black eye. She has blurred under
:18:07. > :18:17.the skin, around the eyelid. - is whether she has blood. She needs to
:18:17. > :18:21.
:18:21. > :18:27.get the I checked out. -- she has blood. If you get a bruise and
:18:27. > :18:37.think it will swell up, why did people put ice on it? That reduces
:18:37. > :18:39.
:18:39. > :18:49.the blood fro - as macabre blood flow to the airier. -- their plebs
:18:49. > :18:55.
:18:55. > :19:04.Thank you for coming in. We love it when you send a staff. You can send
:19:04. > :19:10.us things that are created. -- send us stuff. Nic Joly made this for us
:19:10. > :19:19.a couple of weeks ago. This is what people have come up with. This is a
:19:19. > :19:26.10 pence piece. Alfred did that one. There is a man on top of that and
:19:26. > :19:36.two dogs. Let's have a look at what Flora has done for star of she has
:19:36. > :19:41.put a mermaid on the shelf. flora has done. Look how small they
:19:41. > :19:48.all are. That uses the same technique from a few weeks ago.
:19:48. > :19:54.Send us what you have made and created or ideas as to what we can
:19:54. > :19:59.make. You may earn a Blue Peter badge. You have been hanging about
:19:59. > :20:05.with a bunch of guys and achieving a lifelong ambition. Things are
:20:05. > :20:12.about to get more tough, in a few ways. I have always loved flying.
:20:12. > :20:16.Ever since I was a boy, hanging out with my grandad - an aeronautical
:20:16. > :20:21.engineer. I challenge is to the form a loop the loop with the
:20:21. > :20:26.display team, the blades. I have been taken on a passenger flight
:20:26. > :20:36.and I need to do a loop-the-loop to complete my training. My moment of
:20:36. > :20:43.
:20:43. > :20:50.truth arrives and time to impress You have control. You are flying
:20:50. > :20:58.the aeroplane. Am I flying the plane at the moment? Completely.
:20:58. > :21:05.You are doing us all by yourself. This is Barney's first go at a loop.
:21:05. > :21:11.Start to ease back on the stick. A bit more, a bit more. That is
:21:11. > :21:21.brilliant. Keep it like that. Keep it coming. That is lovely. Keep it
:21:21. > :21:31.coming. That is it. Keep it coming a little bit. Of the lax it now,
:21:31. > :21:37.
:21:37. > :21:45.relax it now. -- relax it now. That That is one dam and practice makes
:21:45. > :21:55.perfect so I am going for it. is your best one so far. An awesome
