0:00:47 > 0:00:50the Blue Peter Book Awards next week, we had two guests in

0:00:50 > 0:00:53the studio today, but they couldn't make it because of Storm Doris.

0:00:53 > 0:00:55But don't worry about it, because we have got them on the phone

0:00:55 > 0:00:57and we're going to be speaking to them soon.

0:00:57 > 0:00:59That is the legend that is Sir Chris Hoy and Francesca Simon.

0:00:59 > 0:01:02- Stay tuned.- And they're going to be talking about their books

0:01:02 > 0:01:05Horrid Henry and Flying Fergus. So, Barney, that got me thinking.

0:01:05 > 0:01:08- I thought I could be Laughing Lindsey.- OK.

0:01:08 > 0:01:11Which would make me Barfing Barney. That doesn't work, does it?

0:01:11 > 0:01:15- Let's go...Bonkers Barney. That's a good one.- We like that.

0:01:15 > 0:01:17What would your alliterative name be? Hello, camera two.

0:01:17 > 0:01:20Maybe you're called Colin. You'd be Crazy Colin, something like that.

0:01:20 > 0:01:22Maybe you're called Hannah, you'd be Happy Hannah.

0:01:22 > 0:01:25You get the idea. Let us know what your alliterative name would be.

0:01:25 > 0:01:27Head to the Blue Peter website and leave your comment.

0:01:27 > 0:01:29We'll try read out as many as we can later in the show.

0:01:29 > 0:01:32Now, it's a real page turner of a show. I didn't write that bit.

0:01:32 > 0:01:34But it sounded good, didn't it?

0:01:34 > 0:01:37So we're going to be looking at the best storybook nominees,

0:01:37 > 0:01:38very exciting.

0:01:38 > 0:01:40Also, Shrove Tuesday is just around the corner,

0:01:40 > 0:01:43so Radzi is going to be cooking us some pancakes with a difference.

0:01:43 > 0:01:46I cannot wait for that. He's going to be showing his flipping skills.

0:01:46 > 0:01:49Speaking of which, where is Radzi? Is he held up in the storm as well?

0:01:49 > 0:01:52No, Radzi is not held up in Storm Doris.

0:01:52 > 0:01:55He is doing a very exciting Blue Peter challenge pretty much

0:01:55 > 0:01:58right now, and we can't tell you anything more about it.

0:01:58 > 0:02:00It is so cool. I actually know what he's doing.

0:02:00 > 0:02:02- Can I tell them a little bit? - No, not one bit. No.

0:02:02 > 0:02:05All the producers are going, "No! Don't say anything."

0:02:05 > 0:02:07How about Spot Shelley? You know the game by now,

0:02:07 > 0:02:09it's called Spot Shelley. It's very simple.

0:02:09 > 0:02:12She's going to be hiding in the show somewhere today.

0:02:12 > 0:02:15The first person to get in touch and tell us where she was hiding

0:02:15 > 0:02:18- wins their very own weather balloon. - No, you don't win a weather balloon.

0:02:18 > 0:02:20- You win a shout out. - Are you going now?- Yeah, bye.

0:02:20 > 0:02:22I'm about to have a phone call, aren't I?

0:02:22 > 0:02:25Yes, so, we wanted to get the legend that is Sir Chris Hoy into the

0:02:25 > 0:02:27studio to show you just what a legend he is.

0:02:27 > 0:02:30He couldn't make it, but he is on the phone. Sir Chris, are you there?

0:02:30 > 0:02:34- I am, yes, hello. - So good to hear your voice, so good.

0:02:34 > 0:02:37- You've had a bit of a nightmare today, haven't you?- I have.

0:02:37 > 0:02:41I've been trying to get from London up to Manchester and it's just

0:02:41 > 0:02:44- been one thing after another, but... - Even with your thighs.

0:02:44 > 0:02:47- Nice to be on the phone.- Thank you very much for being on the phone and

0:02:47 > 0:02:48talking to us.

0:02:48 > 0:02:50Obviously if I was to give you a short intro, it would be

0:02:50 > 0:02:53impossible because you've done so many things over the years.

0:02:53 > 0:02:55You are 11 times world champion,

0:02:55 > 0:02:57you are six times Olympic champion, you've got seven Olympic medals.

0:02:57 > 0:02:59Six of them are gold, one of them is silver.

0:02:59 > 0:03:02You are the joint most successful cyclist of all time.

0:03:02 > 0:03:04You are a Blue Peter gold badge holder,

0:03:04 > 0:03:06you are a race car driver, and now you're an author.

0:03:06 > 0:03:09Is there anything else that you can't do, Sir Chris?

0:03:09 > 0:03:11- I can't cook.- You can't cook?

0:03:11 > 0:03:15Well, listen, Radz is going to show you how to make pancakes very soon.

0:03:15 > 0:03:18Let's talk about you being a racing car driver first, because the

0:03:18 > 0:03:22last time we saw you, you were on two wheels, and now you're in four.

0:03:22 > 0:03:25- So, tell us how that's going. - Yes, it's going really well.

0:03:25 > 0:03:28I raced in the 24 Hours of Le Mans race last year

0:03:28 > 0:03:32in France, and that essentially is a nonstop race for 24 hours.

0:03:32 > 0:03:36So a real taste of endurance and you do it with two other team-mates.

0:03:36 > 0:03:40And it's brilliant fun. Racing in cars, flat-out, 200mph.

0:03:40 > 0:03:43Yeah, very exciting and a lot of fun.

0:03:43 > 0:03:46We're watching a video here, it looks absolutely awesome.

0:03:46 > 0:03:48Let's move on to you being an author, which is, I guess,

0:03:48 > 0:03:51a little more sedate, you're sat at home and you're writing rather

0:03:51 > 0:03:52than whizzing around a track at 200mph.

0:03:52 > 0:03:54But you are talking about Flying Fergus,

0:03:54 > 0:03:58who does fly quite quickly. Is he a little bit of you, Fergus?

0:03:58 > 0:04:01There's a little bit of Fergus, yes. A little bit of me in Fergus.

0:04:01 > 0:04:03He's basically a nine-year-old boy who...

0:04:03 > 0:04:06He's a very ordinary boy, but he has an extraordinary imagination,

0:04:06 > 0:04:08and he loves his bike.

0:04:08 > 0:04:12And he gets a bike for his birthday, it's an old second-hand bike.

0:04:12 > 0:04:15But it turns out the bike has magical powers.

0:04:15 > 0:04:18So it's about all of his adventures and what happens when

0:04:18 > 0:04:20- he rides his bike. - Watching you on your bike,

0:04:20 > 0:04:22everyone thought you had magical powers, do you know that?

0:04:22 > 0:04:24But it was just the size of those legs.

0:04:24 > 0:04:25So, how about the new stories?

0:04:25 > 0:04:29Has he got any adventures he's about to go on that you can tell us about?

0:04:29 > 0:04:31Yes. Well, there's a new book out this week, book number five,

0:04:31 > 0:04:33and it's called The Winning Team.

0:04:33 > 0:04:36And he has to team up with his arch nemesis, Wesley Wallace, to

0:04:36 > 0:04:38compete at the National Championships.

0:04:38 > 0:04:42So it's all about cooperation and working together as a team, but

0:04:42 > 0:04:45also all the fun stuff as well when he goes to Nevermore,

0:04:45 > 0:04:46the magical kingdom,

0:04:46 > 0:04:49- and all the exciting things that happens to him there.- Amazing.

0:04:49 > 0:04:52Sir Chris, it was so good to speak to you, thank you for joining us.

0:04:52 > 0:04:55- Thank you so much.- All the best on your forward journey going home.

0:04:55 > 0:04:57And you mentioned you're not a great cook.

0:04:57 > 0:04:58Well, if you watch this later on,

0:04:58 > 0:05:00you'll see that Radzi is an amazing cook. He really is.

0:05:00 > 0:05:02And it also gives you a bit of a pick-me-up as well.

0:05:02 > 0:05:06Who doesn't like pancakes? But who doesn't like pancakes with a twist?

0:05:06 > 0:05:07Watch this.

0:05:09 > 0:05:11'Hey, you.

0:05:11 > 0:05:15'Are you tired of making the same, boring pancakes every year?

0:05:15 > 0:05:20'Well, don't be downbeat, because it's time to transform that treat.'

0:05:22 > 0:05:24Let's do this!

0:05:26 > 0:05:27'That's right.

0:05:27 > 0:05:30'I'm going to learn how to brighten up my pancakes,

0:05:30 > 0:05:34'and who better to show me than the guys behind online cooking

0:05:34 > 0:05:36'phenomenon SORTEDfood?'

0:05:36 > 0:05:39Welcome to chocoholics not so anonymous.

0:05:39 > 0:05:44'Barry, Jamie and Mike show off their kitchen creativity to

0:05:44 > 0:05:47'over 1.5 million viewers every week.'

0:05:49 > 0:05:51- HE LAUGHS - Why would you do that?!

0:05:51 > 0:05:54'And it's all under the watchful eye of professional chef Ben.'

0:05:54 > 0:05:58- It's my favourite today. - Ben, absolutely lovely to meet you.

0:05:58 > 0:06:02- No, pleasure.- So, how on earth is it possible to make pancakes exciting?

0:06:02 > 0:06:04Well, I think the thing with pancakes is they're so simple.

0:06:04 > 0:06:06Once you've got the classic batter made,

0:06:06 > 0:06:09basically it's up to your creativity to come up with something awesome.

0:06:09 > 0:06:13I like the sound of this a lot. Here we have the classic batter mix.

0:06:13 > 0:06:16Very, very simple. You're going to make it. All the dry stuff in first.

0:06:16 > 0:06:19- So we've got flour.- Oh, no!- Good start.

0:06:19 > 0:06:23That's what I wanted to happen. 'We'll try that again.'

0:06:23 > 0:06:26Flour. Fantastic. A little bit of salt.

0:06:26 > 0:06:30We're going to slightly sweeten it with some sugar and baking powder.

0:06:30 > 0:06:34Give that a whisk up. So, a couple of eggs. We can crack those in.

0:06:34 > 0:06:36And then just pop the shell beside you.

0:06:36 > 0:06:39And then if you add in the milk a little bit at a time,

0:06:39 > 0:06:41basically it avoids lumps.

0:06:41 > 0:06:43Last bit of milk.

0:06:43 > 0:06:44And then a really handy top tip.

0:06:44 > 0:06:47Rather than having to oil or butter your pan every time you cook

0:06:47 > 0:06:51a pancake, take some melted butter and add it into your mix.

0:06:51 > 0:06:56'That, my friends, is what we call in the business a game changer.'

0:06:56 > 0:06:57- OK, I think we're done.- Perfect.

0:06:57 > 0:07:01Now, that looks completely smooth and lump free.

0:07:01 > 0:07:04It still is just basic batter. So how can it be creative?

0:07:04 > 0:07:06You can change up the cooking method.

0:07:06 > 0:07:07You can put it into different shapes.

0:07:07 > 0:07:09You can serve it with whatever you want.

0:07:09 > 0:07:11Because it is so simple,

0:07:11 > 0:07:15- it really is just like a canvas for so many new ideas.- Amazing.

0:07:15 > 0:07:19- But here are three that I made earlier...- Fantastic.

0:07:19 > 0:07:23- ..so that we can have a pancake batter.- 'Oh, yes.

0:07:23 > 0:07:27'I'm taking on the rest of the team, Barry, Jamie and Mike,

0:07:27 > 0:07:31'to see who can make the most imaginative pancakes possible.'

0:07:31 > 0:07:35- Gents, are we up for it? - Let's do this.- Come on.

0:07:37 > 0:07:39'Jamie and I are working on our own.

0:07:39 > 0:07:43- 'And Barry and Mike are teaming up as a duo.'- Ready?- Let's do this.

0:07:43 > 0:07:47- 'Let battle commence.' - Now, I like pancakes.

0:07:47 > 0:07:51But I also really like pizza. So I'm going to make pancake pizzas.

0:07:51 > 0:07:54We are making pancakes and cupcakes.

0:07:54 > 0:07:59- Some could call them pancake cupcake bites.- But most don't.

0:07:59 > 0:08:02Everybody loves sweet stuff. Well, I do anyway because of my sweet tooth.

0:08:02 > 0:08:07So I'm going to combine all of that in lollipop pancake things.

0:08:07 > 0:08:10- Things?- Things.- That's a great description.

0:08:13 > 0:08:14Now the pancake is into the pan,

0:08:14 > 0:08:18I can start chopping up my pepperoni and my sun-dried tomatoes and

0:08:18 > 0:08:21grate in some cheese and sprinkle it on top when the underside is cooked.

0:08:21 > 0:08:23Oh, it looks a little bit overdone, that, mate.

0:08:23 > 0:08:27- What? I've just poured it in. - Yeah, I knew that.

0:08:27 > 0:08:29So, first thing we've got to do is zest

0:08:29 > 0:08:32a lemon into our premade batter.

0:08:32 > 0:08:33While you do that, Baz,

0:08:33 > 0:08:36I'm going to line a muffin tin with some butter.

0:08:36 > 0:08:38Now, I have washed my hands.

0:08:38 > 0:08:40Now, we're going to kick off with the cocoa powder,

0:08:40 > 0:08:44and I'm going to use half of my batter, like so.

0:08:44 > 0:08:46I'm going for the sweet, cos I think...

0:08:46 > 0:08:50we've had lunch, we had dinner, oh, I need a nice little desert.

0:08:50 > 0:08:53Hello, chocolate swirl pancake...things.

0:08:53 > 0:08:56'Time might be tight, but we're still having fun.

0:08:56 > 0:08:58'Triple blueberry challenge, anyone?'

0:08:58 > 0:09:00Yes!

0:09:00 > 0:09:01Yeah!

0:09:01 > 0:09:04Ohhh, yeah!

0:09:04 > 0:09:06No spillage, that is impressive.

0:09:06 > 0:09:07OK, here we go.

0:09:07 > 0:09:09I need to do a swirl, a perfect swirl.

0:09:09 > 0:09:10How big are these lollipops?

0:09:10 > 0:09:13Uh, we will find out.

0:09:13 > 0:09:15'Hey-hey, looking good.

0:09:15 > 0:09:19'But Jamie isn't messing around with his pizza creations.'

0:09:20 > 0:09:23Now, obviously, the best thing about a pizza is,

0:09:23 > 0:09:25you can put whatever toppings you want.

0:09:25 > 0:09:28As long as everything you put on is cooked, it's going to be great.

0:09:28 > 0:09:32'And Barry and Mike are getting serious with their cupcakes.'

0:09:32 > 0:09:33Now, this is the good bit.

0:09:33 > 0:09:35We're going to be putting blueberries

0:09:35 > 0:09:38and white chocolate into the batter.

0:09:38 > 0:09:39Be generous.

0:09:39 > 0:09:41I think yours is burning.

0:09:42 > 0:09:45Hello. I mean...

0:09:45 > 0:09:48Yes! That has actually worked.

0:09:48 > 0:09:50Oh, mate, that looks amazing.

0:09:50 > 0:09:55These go into an oven at 220 for about 13 to 15 minutes.

0:09:55 > 0:09:57- OTHERS GIGGLE - Excuse me, excuse me... Stop it!

0:09:57 > 0:09:58No messing around in the kitchen.

0:10:00 > 0:10:02THAT is a pancake pizza.

0:10:02 > 0:10:05'Time to add our final touches.

0:10:05 > 0:10:08'But before our creations get judged,

0:10:08 > 0:10:10'there's just one thing left to do.'

0:10:10 > 0:10:11It's the Blue Peter badge.

0:10:11 > 0:10:13OTHERS: Flip it! Flip it! Flip it!

0:10:15 > 0:10:16Three, two, one...

0:10:21 > 0:10:24- You triple flipped it. - Well, that didn't go to plan.

0:10:26 > 0:10:29'So then, who has produced pancake perfection?

0:10:29 > 0:10:32'Jamie, with his pizza cake?

0:10:32 > 0:10:36'Barry and Mike, with their pancake/cupcake bites?

0:10:36 > 0:10:41'Or me and my pancake lollipop swirly...things?

0:10:41 > 0:10:42'Yeah, still working on a name.'

0:10:42 > 0:10:44So, for a winner...

0:10:44 > 0:10:47I love the fact that this is completely out of the box.

0:10:47 > 0:10:50However, this is super-arty and creative. But, for me...

0:10:52 > 0:10:54- ..this is my winner!- Well done!

0:10:54 > 0:10:56SO good.

0:10:56 > 0:10:58You know what, last cake, always, sorry, I've just got to say...

0:10:58 > 0:11:01Ah, there's one rule that we do have here at SORTED,

0:11:01 > 0:11:04- and that's last one in the kitchen does the washing up.- See you, mate.

0:11:04 > 0:11:05Go, go, go, go!

0:11:06 > 0:11:07That's what Radzi is like

0:11:07 > 0:11:09- when we go for lunch, isn't it?- It really is.

0:11:09 > 0:11:11We always leave the restaurant

0:11:11 > 0:11:13- and he's still left eating. - He never washes up, either.

0:11:13 > 0:11:15How good were his lollipop pancakes though?

0:11:15 > 0:11:16I hope he saved me one.

0:11:16 > 0:11:18Speaking of which, if you have a go at any of those pancake recipes...

0:11:18 > 0:11:21Send them to us - the pancakes, not the pictures.

0:11:21 > 0:11:24Yes, we're calling them pancake selfies - "pelfies".

0:11:24 > 0:11:27- We might try and get that trending. No?- That's not going to happen.

0:11:27 > 0:11:29OK, fine. Have a look at this week's Big Badge Wall,

0:11:29 > 0:11:31- where your pelfies could end up. - (Shut up.)

0:11:31 > 0:11:33- LAUGHING: - It's covered in all your glorious...

0:11:33 > 0:11:34I don't think that's going to take off.

0:11:34 > 0:11:37Something I'd like to DRAW your attention to is this.

0:11:37 > 0:11:39It's from Bryony from Cheshire.

0:11:39 > 0:11:42She was inspired by me going caving for cheese.

0:11:42 > 0:11:44Yes, that is a thing that happened.

0:11:44 > 0:11:46So here I am in my beautiful cave,

0:11:46 > 0:11:47and you can see I have a little bag of cheese.

0:11:47 > 0:11:49I think it's meant to be on my back,

0:11:49 > 0:11:51but it's kind of slipped down to my botty.

0:11:51 > 0:11:53- Everyone should carry cheese on their bot-bot.- Yes, thank you.

0:11:53 > 0:11:55Have a look at this, cheese is definitely trending.

0:11:55 > 0:11:57Thomas says, "For the love of cheese!",

0:11:57 > 0:11:58with a big headline there,

0:11:58 > 0:12:01and he's got Lindsey climbing up a massive block of cheese.

0:13:11 > 0:13:15I would describe Time Travelling with a Hamster as funny,

0:13:15 > 0:13:17exciting and emotional.

0:13:17 > 0:13:19It's fun to read about time-travelling,

0:13:19 > 0:13:22because it tells you what can happen in the future

0:13:22 > 0:13:24and what happened in the past in more detail

0:13:24 > 0:13:25than just a history book.

0:13:25 > 0:13:30I think some bits could have been cut out to make it a bit better.

0:13:30 > 0:13:33Very imaginative and clever.

0:13:33 > 0:13:37I felt at some bits you could really feel what the character was feeling.

0:14:29 > 0:14:34and it has got stories from all over the world.

0:14:53 > 0:14:56It has a very nice cover and it draws you in

0:14:56 > 0:14:57from the very first word.

0:14:57 > 0:15:00It was really interesting, and it was different,

0:15:00 > 0:15:03because instead of the main characters being humans,

0:15:03 > 0:15:04they were rabbits.

0:15:04 > 0:15:07I think Podkin One-Ear should win, because it's magical,

0:15:07 > 0:15:10it's got lots of different creatures,

0:15:10 > 0:15:13and it's very different to all the other books.
