7:37:17 > 7:37:22I'd have a koala. The koala is very chilled out, very relaxed.
7:37:22 > 7:37:25Takes its time, that is who I want to be with.

7:37:28 > 7:37:30Yeah, if anyone wants to stress out and say,
7:37:30 > 7:37:31"Come on, you've got to hurry up,"

7:38:54 > 7:38:55the detail is incredible,
7:38:55 > 7:38:57and at the back that factory is open for service.
7:38:57 > 7:39:00When you look at artwork, you have to say, "Look at the use of colour."
7:39:00 > 7:39:02"Isn't it amazing?" We just did.
7:39:02 > 7:39:04Last week we followed the journey of a wing
7:39:04 > 7:39:06as it was being attached to the side of a plane.
7:39:06 > 7:39:08This is said plane and this is said wing.
7:39:08 > 7:39:10We don't know who has sent the picture in.
7:39:10 > 7:39:12We get so many photos and things, we don't know who they are from.
7:39:12 > 7:39:14If you do send us something,
7:39:14 > 7:39:15put your name on it so we know who you are
7:39:15 > 7:39:18and we can give you a proper shout-out on telly.
7:39:18 > 7:39:22A few weeks ago, the worst thing I did in my life ever,
7:39:22 > 7:39:24I'm so dramatic, the Chilli Challenge.
7:39:24 > 7:39:28- We had to eat chilli, it was not pleasant.- It was bad.
7:39:28 > 7:39:31Molly has designed this booklet for us which is all about chillies.
7:39:31 > 7:39:33She's talking us through the various varieties.
7:39:33 > 7:39:35Some which are hot, some are small.
7:39:35 > 7:39:38There are individual chillies for each of us that she's designed.
7:39:38 > 7:39:39Lindsey's tastes like a peach
7:39:39 > 7:39:42and it always regrows whenever you take a bite out of it. That's cool.
7:39:42 > 7:39:46Mine makes spy gadgets appear. Molly, you know me so well.
7:39:46 > 7:39:48And we did say we deserved a medal for the challenge.

7:39:58 > 7:39:59Don't eat too much.

7:40:04 > 7:40:07- It made no difference.- Correct.
7:40:07 > 7:40:11Do you know how many people said, "Did you have milk? That's fine."
7:40:11 > 7:40:13- No difference!- Do not try that at home.
7:40:13 > 7:40:15If you want to see that for yourself,
7:40:15 > 7:40:16head over to the website

7:40:33 > 7:40:36Now, imagine you've been to school, you've had a hard day,
7:40:36 > 7:40:37you come and you do your homework.
7:40:37 > 7:40:40What you want to do is chill out with your mates. Yes?
7:40:40 > 7:40:41And watch TV, something like that.
7:40:41 > 7:40:45How about if I said you come home, you're tired, do your homework
7:40:45 > 7:40:48and go straight on to a computer and run your own business.
7:40:48 > 7:40:52Just a normal day for Jordan. This is what it is like being him.
7:40:58 > 7:41:00Hi, I am Jordan Casey. I am 14.
7:41:00 > 7:41:02I run my own Internet start-up.
7:41:02 > 7:41:03This is what it's like being me.
7:41:07 > 7:41:10Since I was nine, I have been teaching myself programming
7:41:10 > 7:41:12and other computer languages.
7:41:12 > 7:41:15When I was 12 I put my first app online for people to download.
7:41:15 > 7:41:17and it took the number one spot in Ireland.
7:41:17 > 7:41:19Now I have launched my new business,
7:41:19 > 7:41:22which is an app for teachers to easily manage the classroom.
7:41:24 > 7:41:27A normal day for me is just like this.
7:41:27 > 7:41:29TEACHER READS OUT REGISTER
7:41:29 > 7:41:32WHISPERING: I go to school as normal, just like everybody else.
7:41:32 > 7:41:34- Jordan?- Here.
7:41:34 > 7:41:37I stay on after school study to get all my assignments done.
7:41:37 > 7:41:40Running a bit late, better get in. See you in two hours.
7:41:45 > 7:41:46Time to head home.
7:41:48 > 7:41:50And this is where things get busy.
7:41:51 > 7:41:54I get changed, grab something to eat and then I go on my computer.
7:41:54 > 7:41:57But this isn't for gaming, this if for checking my e-mails,
7:41:57 > 7:42:00working on my business and developing my software.
7:42:00 > 7:42:01When I am creating new apps
7:42:01 > 7:42:04I have to write a series of programs to talk to my computer.
7:42:04 > 7:42:08This is called coding and it is like learning a new language.
7:42:08 > 7:42:10People speak using words and sentences where
7:42:10 > 7:42:14computers speak using ones and zeros, two completely different languages.
7:42:14 > 7:42:17To talk to my computer I need a translator
7:42:17 > 7:42:19which is a programme called a compiler.
7:42:19 > 7:42:22And to speed things up quickly, I need to use basic English
7:42:22 > 7:42:24which the compiler quickly converts.
7:42:24 > 7:42:27This is how I make a simple message appear in the text box.
7:42:27 > 7:42:30I write an instruction in simple English, like this.
7:42:30 > 7:42:31Then the compiler does its work
7:42:31 > 7:42:33and converts my code into computer code
7:42:33 > 7:42:36which can be seen in the programme here.
7:42:37 > 7:42:40It may look complicated, but as you can see, the important part is here.
7:42:40 > 7:42:43It says, "text equals, Blue Peter Rocks."
7:42:43 > 7:42:47And the way I write my apps is just a more complicated version of this
7:42:47 > 7:42:49and a lot longer.
7:42:49 > 7:42:51That is how I do what I do.
7:42:51 > 7:42:53Before I tell you where it has taken me,
7:42:53 > 7:42:55I'm going to answer some of your questions.
7:42:55 > 7:42:59This one asks, "How did you get into making apps?"
7:42:59 > 7:43:02Well, I got into making them when I was nine.
7:43:02 > 7:43:04I used to play a game on the internet.
7:43:04 > 7:43:07I saw some of the users were making websites and blogs.
7:43:07 > 7:43:10I thought that would be a fun hobby and fun thing to do.
7:43:10 > 7:43:14I bought some books and started to watch videos on how to programme.
7:43:14 > 7:43:16This one asks,
7:43:16 > 7:43:19"How does it feel being one of the youngest app developers?"
7:43:19 > 7:43:24It feels good. I have a head start on what I want to do for my career.
7:43:24 > 7:43:27Another asks, "What is your favourite thing about the job?"
7:43:27 > 7:43:32One of my favourite things is the amount of opportunities I have got,
7:43:32 > 7:43:34it is not just programming I do for my business,

7:45:11 > 7:45:15First up we've got Radzi. Look at your little football kit.
7:45:15 > 7:45:17I spent so long designing that.
7:45:17 > 7:45:20I put skateboards and clouds everywhere. I'm not sure why.
7:45:20 > 7:45:22I'm liking it. There's Barney.
7:45:22 > 7:45:26- He's got a camera man.- He's got a tank!- Of course he does.
7:45:26 > 7:45:29Make sure you head to the website and check it out.
7:45:29 > 7:45:31Absolutely. Can you hear that?
7:45:31 > 7:45:32DRUMS RATTLE
7:45:32 > 7:45:36That is Barney. And he's got a noisy treat for us.
7:45:39 > 7:45:42Thank you. I should take that off.
7:45:42 > 7:45:45It is the start of Chinese New Year tomorrow.
7:45:45 > 7:45:47We will show you how to make these drums.
7:45:47 > 7:45:49They are not just designed to make noise,
7:45:49 > 7:45:50even though I like that about this,
7:45:50 > 7:45:53they are designed to ward off evil spirits
7:45:53 > 7:45:55and bring you luck at the start of the New Year.
7:45:55 > 7:45:57We're going to show you how to make them.
7:45:57 > 7:45:59All the details as usual on the website.
7:45:59 > 7:46:00We're going to show you
7:46:00 > 7:46:02how to make them right now.
7:46:02 > 7:46:03I have some help with Howard,
7:46:03 > 7:46:04Anthony and Jennifer.
7:46:04 > 7:46:05- How you doing, guys?- Good.
7:46:05 > 7:46:07Good to see you.
7:46:07 > 7:46:09How are you celebrating Chinese New Year, Jennifer?
7:46:09 > 7:46:14Going to have a dinner of dumplings.
7:46:14 > 7:46:16And you've got your party dress on.
7:46:16 > 7:46:18Do you want to step down here so we can see a shot of your dress.
7:46:18 > 7:46:21It's very nice. Traditional Chinese dress as well.
7:46:21 > 7:46:23AUDIENCE AWWS
7:46:23 > 7:46:24Look at that! Beautiful!
7:46:24 > 7:46:26APPLAUSE
7:46:26 > 7:46:30Now you're in the party mood, you're going to help to make these drums.
7:46:30 > 7:46:32We will paint them red for a special reason.
7:46:32 > 7:46:35- Let's talk about that first. You know about this, don't you?- Yeah.
7:46:35 > 7:46:38Why red? Why is that an important colour?
7:46:38 > 7:46:45In the past, there was this monster and he came to eat people
7:46:45 > 7:46:49and then the people found out that it was scared of red and loud noises.
7:46:49 > 7:46:53That is why we wear red and have firecrackers.
7:46:53 > 7:46:57- It is like garlic and vampires, really.- Yeah.
7:46:57 > 7:47:00Did he look like that person there - our floor manager?
7:47:00 > 7:47:01LAUGHTER
7:47:01 > 7:47:04A lot of people are scared of her. No. Let's make the drums, shall we?
7:47:04 > 7:47:06You are going to need lots of cool things to make this.
7:47:06 > 7:47:08You're going to need these food boxes or snack boxes.
7:47:10 > 7:47:12Circular is important.
7:47:12 > 7:47:14You will need some red paint.
7:47:14 > 7:47:17Acrylic paint is really good.
7:47:17 > 7:47:21You'll need some ribbon, available in most good craft shops.
7:47:21 > 7:47:22You need some beads.
7:47:22 > 7:47:25Those are the beaters that make the noise.
7:47:25 > 7:47:29An old paintbrush, pencil, compass, some sticky tape
7:47:29 > 7:47:31and keep hold of the lids on the boxes,
7:47:31 > 7:47:33they are going to make the noise.
7:47:33 > 7:47:36While you are decorating yours, I'm going to take you from the beginning
7:47:36 > 7:47:38and show you how to make this.
7:47:38 > 7:47:41Come in 5cm from the bottom of the snack pot.
7:47:41 > 7:47:43Make three or four marks around it
7:47:43 > 7:47:45so you can see where you are going to be cutting.
7:47:45 > 7:47:48Carefully, take a compass, put a hole in it.
7:47:48 > 7:47:51Make enough space to put some scissors in.
7:47:51 > 7:47:53If you are struggling, get some help.
7:47:53 > 7:47:55It's always good to get somebody involved in a Blue Peter Make,
7:47:55 > 7:47:57it is a family thing.
7:47:57 > 7:48:00Once you cut around, you will end up with something like this.
7:48:00 > 7:48:04To make it easier, to decorate it,
7:48:04 > 7:48:06take an old stick or paintbrush like that.
7:48:06 > 7:48:09You will want to make another hole, right in the centre of the pot.
7:48:09 > 7:48:11On Santa's nose.
7:48:11 > 7:48:13It might not have Santa on it, but you know what I mean.
7:48:13 > 7:48:17Shove your pencil, stick or paintbrush through it.
7:48:17 > 7:48:19Tape it inside.
7:48:19 > 7:48:21It will look like this.
7:48:21 > 7:48:23You want to make it nice and sturdy
7:48:23 > 7:48:25cos you want to hold it while you're decorating it.
7:48:25 > 7:48:27And while I'm getting ready to do the next bit,
7:48:27 > 7:48:30Anthony, you can tell us about presents that you get.
7:48:30 > 7:48:32You get any nice pressies?
7:48:32 > 7:48:35Yeah, you get a red packet and there's a gift inside.
7:48:35 > 7:48:37- What are the gifts normally?- Money.
7:48:37 > 7:48:41- Money! Really?- Yeah. - Enough for a mountain bike?
7:48:41 > 7:48:45- Yes.- Wow! I'm doing this later.
7:48:45 > 7:48:48Once you have your paintbrush through the middle,
7:48:48 > 7:48:51put some holes in the side of your pot as well.
7:48:51 > 7:48:55That is where the ribbons will go. Do it before you paint it
7:48:55 > 7:48:58because then you don't have to hold it once it's covered in wet paint.
7:48:58 > 7:49:00Then you want to feed your ribbons
7:49:00 > 7:49:02and beaters through the side to make your drum.
7:49:02 > 7:49:03This is the fiddly bit.
7:49:03 > 7:49:06- Jennifer, I might ask you for help on this one, is that OK?- OK.
7:49:06 > 7:49:11- Which beads do you want? - I like blue.- I like blue too.
7:49:14 > 7:49:16It's quite fiddly, but stick with it. It's really worth it.
7:49:16 > 7:49:20If I fold that in half, can you feed it through?
7:49:22 > 7:49:24Will it happen first time?
7:49:24 > 7:49:26Yes - I love live telly for that kind of thing.
7:49:26 > 7:49:28Once you've fed it through,
7:49:28 > 7:49:30you put a knot in the end so it does not fall off.
7:49:30 > 7:49:34Three or four is good for a beater. That is just about enough.
7:49:34 > 7:49:38If you want to decorate them, you can do it anything you like.
7:49:38 > 7:49:41There are some symbols on the website.
7:49:41 > 7:49:43There is a Chinese symbol which says,
7:49:43 > 7:49:45"Lucky" and there is a picture of a horse.
7:49:45 > 7:49:48You can print those out, and you can stick them on if you want to.
7:49:48 > 7:49:52If you look right here you can see more symbols
7:49:52 > 7:49:55and that means "making things."
7:49:55 > 7:49:57How do you say that in Mandarin, Jennifer?
7:49:57 > 7:49:59SHE SPEAKS MANDARIN
7:49:59 > 7:50:01BARNEY REPEATS HER
7:50:01 > 7:50:04Make sure you get involved and start talking as well.
7:50:04 > 7:50:07It is always good to speak. Have I got the right thing here? Yes.
7:50:07 > 7:50:09It is painted, it's red and it's good to go.
7:50:09 > 7:50:12Once the ribbons go through the side...
7:50:12 > 7:50:13you want to use a pencil...
7:50:14 > 7:50:18..and you want to push your ribbon through.
7:50:18 > 7:50:22Just like that. Get some more sticky tape. Stick to the inside.
7:50:22 > 7:50:24Cut it to length.
7:50:24 > 7:50:27You can put your top on the outside,
7:50:27 > 7:50:30which means you have your beater and you can make some noise.
7:50:30 > 7:50:35You can decorate the outside as well. You can use stick-on jewels.
7:50:35 > 7:50:38You can draw on there. We have gone for the symbol which means lucky.
7:50:38 > 7:50:41Twist it around to make the noise.
7:50:41 > 7:50:45Ward off the evil spirits and have a good time at Chinese New Year.
7:50:45 > 7:50:48- What do you think, guys?- Yeah. - You are into it - I can tell.
7:50:50 > 7:50:54I like the fact we make things that are lying around the home.
7:50:54 > 7:50:58Two weeks ago I met an artist who does exactly that.
7:50:58 > 7:51:01He makes works of art from rubbish. Check this out.
7:51:05 > 7:51:08Have you ever noticed things are not always what they seem?
7:51:08 > 7:51:10Sometimes when you look at something,
7:51:10 > 7:51:13you don't actually see what is really there.
7:51:15 > 7:51:18Thank you. Pretty cool!
7:51:18 > 7:51:21That got me thinking, why not make a massive Blue Peter make
7:51:21 > 7:51:25which only becomes clear when you see it from a certain angle.
7:51:25 > 7:51:27Sound good? I thought so too,
7:51:27 > 7:51:31but I am no art expert, but I do know somebody that is.
7:51:34 > 7:51:37Meet Chris, a Preston-based artist
7:51:37 > 7:51:39whose work can be seen all around the UK.
7:51:39 > 7:51:42Chris has been a professional artist for 12 years.
7:51:42 > 7:51:47Today, he will show us how to produce our very own anamorphic art.
7:51:47 > 7:51:51Anamorphic art is where you create a sculpture or a drawing
7:51:51 > 7:51:52of any size or shape,
7:51:52 > 7:51:56but it only works from one certain viewpoint,
7:51:56 > 7:51:58so you stand in one position
7:51:58 > 7:52:01and the sculptural drawing makes sense from this part,
7:52:01 > 7:52:04but when you go from any other position
7:52:04 > 7:52:05it doesn't like what it should do.
7:52:05 > 7:52:09I am hoping to make a large anamorphic sculpture of
7:52:09 > 7:52:11the Blue Peter badge
7:52:11 > 7:52:16in as many recycled pieces of fabric or plastic or whatever I can find.
7:52:16 > 7:52:19As long as it is blue - I'm not too picky.
7:52:20 > 7:52:23Looks like we got the right man for the job.
7:52:23 > 7:52:26All he needs to do now is find the materials for the make.
7:52:30 > 7:52:32There is some amazingly good stuff here.
7:52:32 > 7:52:37I couldn't have asked for anything better, really. Perfect!
7:52:37 > 7:52:38I can do a lot with that.
7:52:38 > 7:52:40Nice to have a different collection of blues,
7:52:40 > 7:52:42so long as they are not too dissimilar
7:52:42 > 7:52:45because when the light hits it and the sculpture is ready
7:52:45 > 7:52:48it will have different tints over it any way.
7:52:48 > 7:52:53We are our artist, we have our materials... Nearly!
7:52:53 > 7:52:55Now it is time to make our sculpture.
7:52:55 > 7:52:59- Here he is, the man himself, Chris, great to meet you.- You too, man.
7:52:59 > 7:53:01You seem to have brought lots of material with you.
7:53:01 > 7:53:03What have you got?
7:53:03 > 7:53:06Everything from tarpaulin to tiny plastic blue cups.
7:53:06 > 7:53:11- We have so much, the list could go on.- You have three helpers.
7:53:11 > 7:53:15- Who are they?- I have got Isaac, Simran and Tahiro. My dream team!
7:53:15 > 7:53:17- Hey, guys.- ALL:- Hi.
7:53:17 > 7:53:19They brought a lot of blue materials with you.
7:53:19 > 7:53:23Actually there is more white than blue. How will that work?
7:53:23 > 7:53:27The floor is white. We really need the sculpture to pop off.
7:53:27 > 7:53:31If we have a white background, it might get lost.
7:53:31 > 7:53:35- We are thinking on our toes. - Maximum impact.- Precisely.
7:53:35 > 7:53:40We will create a masterpiece of the Blue Peter badge. That is a big job.
7:53:40 > 7:53:42Let's get started.
7:53:45 > 7:53:47It does haven't to be neat or too flat.
7:53:50 > 7:53:52- You want it to swoop?- Yes.
7:53:53 > 7:53:55With Chris calling the creative shots,
7:53:55 > 7:53:57our badge soon begins to take shape.
7:53:57 > 7:54:02We have most of the blue done. We have half of the back of the badge.
7:54:02 > 7:54:05We are about to do the other half.
7:54:05 > 7:54:10Virtually all of the floor is done, so we're on track.
7:54:10 > 7:54:14More than 500 years ago artists started to play with perspective.
7:54:14 > 7:54:17That is when you make a picture look like it has space and depth.
7:54:17 > 7:54:21It will look long. You will have to look back and forth
7:54:21 > 7:54:23to see if it lines up with the lines.
7:54:23 > 7:54:26A lot of modern artists use anamorphic techniques.
7:54:26 > 7:54:30Swiss artist Felice Varini created these artworks in urban spaces.
7:54:30 > 7:54:32It looks like the shapes are floating in mid-air,
7:54:32 > 7:54:35but the colours are painted on the walls of the buildings.
7:54:37 > 7:54:38That's really coming together.
7:54:40 > 7:54:42While the others get on with placing the boat,
7:54:42 > 7:54:45I have been tasked with making the flags for the ship.
7:54:45 > 7:54:47Easy.
7:54:47 > 7:54:51They are perfect, but they need to fly that way at the moment.
7:54:52 > 7:54:53Not that way.
7:54:53 > 7:54:58It is a quick fix! Just an hour!
7:54:58 > 7:55:00OK, so I made one little mistake.
7:55:00 > 7:55:03It will not happen again though - definitely not!
7:55:03 > 7:55:05Yeah, that's it. Tie it off there.
7:55:07 > 7:55:10Ah! That wasn't supposed to happen!
7:55:12 > 7:55:14Luckily it only needs another piece of string
7:55:14 > 7:55:15and a few final flourishes.
7:55:15 > 7:55:19- What do we think?- Yes, real happy.
7:55:19 > 7:55:21- Finished?- I think so.
7:55:21 > 7:55:24What does our multi-layered, completely recycled,
7:55:24 > 7:55:27anamorphic artwork badge look like?
7:55:27 > 7:55:28Well, here it is.
7:55:35 > 7:55:38Thank you so much to Chris and the team.
7:55:38 > 7:55:42It goes to show you can turn every day objects into works of art.
7:55:42 > 7:55:44Have a go yourself. Take a picture and send it to us.
7:55:44 > 7:55:47Get a permission from a parent first before you start
7:55:47 > 7:55:50turning objects around, they might not like that.
7:55:50 > 7:55:53Let's talk about which animal you think you are mostly like.
7:55:53 > 7:55:55It is the start of Chinese New Year tomorrow.
7:55:55 > 7:55:57You've been getting in touch
7:55:57 > 7:55:59and telling us which animals you are like.
7:55:59 > 7:56:04One viewer says, "I am an owl cos I'm wise and clever like them."
7:56:04 > 7:56:09This one says, "Tiger, because I am brave and feisty."
7:56:09 > 7:56:11Good for you.
7:56:11 > 7:56:14This one says, "I would be a bear because I love to sleep." Me too!
7:56:14 > 7:56:18This one says, they would be a kangaroo
7:56:18 > 7:56:19because they love trampolining.
7:56:19 > 7:56:23That's fun. That's Howard's favourite. You like that one.
7:56:23 > 7:56:27This one says, "I think I am a swan because I am very graceful."
7:56:30 > 7:56:33And we have this one who says, "I am a budgie because I flap my wings
7:56:33 > 7:56:34"and talk like one."
7:56:34 > 7:56:36I don't think you talk like a budgie.
7:56:36 > 7:56:38Do you have wings? Does that person have wings?
7:56:41 > 7:56:43This one, "I would be a monkey
7:56:43 > 7:56:46"because I was born in the Year of the Monkey and I am very cheeky."
7:56:46 > 7:56:48I cannot relate to that at all.
7:56:48 > 7:56:51This one, "I am like a lamb, as I love them
7:56:51 > 7:56:53"and I live on a sheep farm."
7:56:53 > 7:56:55Really nice.
7:56:55 > 7:57:00This one says, "OK," starts with that - "I am a giraffe
7:57:00 > 7:57:01"because I am vegetarian, tall
7:57:01 > 7:57:05"and I like a giraffe, I dress in yellow."
7:57:05 > 7:57:07Really good, very precise.
