6:35:52 > 6:35:57Welcome to another chapter in the world of motorsport - Formula E.
6:35:57 > 6:35:59These may look like Formula 1 racing cars,
6:35:59 > 6:36:02but there's big difference - they only run on electricity
6:36:02 > 6:36:06in the world's first fully-electric racing championship.
6:36:06 > 6:36:09This is Donington Park in Leicestershire,
6:36:09 > 6:36:11where all of the teams are based.
6:36:11 > 6:36:14And, in just two weeks' time, the series will be starting in Beijing.
6:36:14 > 6:36:16But, for the next two days,
6:36:16 > 6:36:18we've got an exclusive access-all-areas pass
6:36:18 > 6:36:21to see just how the teams are gearing up.
6:36:21 > 6:36:23There are ten teams taking part in Formula E.
6:36:23 > 6:36:26Each team will have two drivers
6:36:26 > 6:36:28and each race will be held through the streets
6:36:28 > 6:36:30of different cities around the world,
6:36:30 > 6:36:33with London as the final race of the series.
6:36:35 > 6:36:38Today, the mechanics have been working really hard
6:36:38 > 6:36:41and that's because tomorrow is test day.
6:36:41 > 6:36:44Now, just take a look at these cars.
6:36:44 > 6:36:49Now, these bad boys can go from 0-62mph in just three seconds,
6:36:49 > 6:36:52with a top speed of 140mph.
6:36:52 > 6:36:55Now, it's not just batteries that these cars have all got in common,
6:36:55 > 6:36:59because the very first year of the tournament is a one-make series,
6:36:59 > 6:37:01meaning all the cars are identical,
6:37:01 > 6:37:06so the drivers' skill and style will be vital in getting results.
6:37:06 > 6:37:09Step up, British driver Sam Bird.
6:37:09 > 6:37:12He's fast and totally up for electric racing.
6:37:12 > 6:37:15- Sam, it's an absolute pleasure to meet you.- Nice to meet you.
6:37:15 > 6:37:17Can you show us a few bits on this car? I'm very excited to see it.
6:37:17 > 6:37:20First, the steering wheel, which I'm going to take off.
6:37:20 > 6:37:22- You can just take it out? - Yeah, not like a road car.
6:37:22 > 6:37:24THEY LAUGH So...
6:37:24 > 6:37:25How cool is that?
6:37:25 > 6:37:27So this is the front of the steering wheel.
6:37:27 > 6:37:29We've got brake, paddle and motor.
6:37:29 > 6:37:31Motor is for how much power
6:37:31 > 6:37:34we're going to get from the battery at any given moment,
6:37:34 > 6:37:40and then brake and paddle are to do with the regeneration of the battery.
6:37:40 > 6:37:41So we can pull this in
6:37:41 > 6:37:45and we effectively try and regain a little bit of battery life.
6:37:45 > 6:37:47Formula E cars are very clever machines.
6:37:47 > 6:37:49A pull on the paddle makes the motor a generator,
6:37:49 > 6:37:52and energy from the moving wheels feeds back into the battery.
6:37:52 > 6:37:55You can regen maybe a few percent.
6:37:55 > 6:37:56And that matters?
6:37:56 > 6:37:59That is enough to maybe get you round an extra lap.
6:37:59 > 6:38:03In other categories of motorsport, they think about looking after tyres.
6:38:03 > 6:38:06In this, we thinking about looking after battery life.
6:38:06 > 6:38:11The amount of power that will be used through the battery
6:38:11 > 6:38:16is the same amount you would get from using 10,000 of these AA batteries.
6:38:16 > 6:38:21- This will last for 25 minutes, half an hour, roughly.- That's all?
6:38:21 > 6:38:25This thing is having to push something that is 900 kilos
6:38:25 > 6:38:28forwards at 140mph.
6:38:28 > 6:38:31We know how long it lasts, but how long would it take to charge?
6:38:31 > 6:38:34- Around 90 minutes.- About the same as a mobile phone?- Absolutely.
6:38:34 > 6:38:37So when you're charging it, presumably,
6:38:37 > 6:38:40you carry on racing, so what do you race when this is charging?
6:38:40 > 6:38:44We've got two cars per race, actually,
6:38:44 > 6:38:47so I'm going to have to do a pit stop during the race,
6:38:47 > 6:38:50which is where I've got a little challenge for you.
6:38:50 > 6:38:53- OK. I'm up for this. Let's go. - Absolutely.
6:38:53 > 6:38:55'In motorsport, every second counts
6:38:55 > 6:38:58'and the race can be won or lost in the pit lane.
6:38:58 > 6:39:01'When Sam changes cars halfway through a race, he has to be quick.

6:41:30 > 6:41:33The European Space Agency is sending Tim to space
6:41:33 > 6:41:35for six months on the Principia mission.
6:41:35 > 6:41:37Now, we're going to give you a chance as part
6:41:37 > 6:41:41of the competition to design one of the official logos for this mission.
6:41:41 > 6:41:43Tim's going to be wearing his official mission patch
6:41:43 > 6:41:46and it's up to you to design what it looks like.
6:41:46 > 6:41:48- It's going to be amazing. - It is so cool.
6:41:48 > 6:41:51Now, every mission that involves human space flight has a patch.
6:41:51 > 6:41:53Here you can see a few examples of designs
6:41:53 > 6:41:55that have made their way into space
6:41:55 > 6:41:59since the mission patch was first created over 40 years ago.
6:41:59 > 6:42:02There are lots of different designs, different shapes and sizes,
6:42:02 > 6:42:03lots of different colours.
6:42:03 > 6:42:06And they all focus on different parts of the mission.
6:42:06 > 6:42:08Don't forget, when you design this,
6:42:08 > 6:42:11the winning design will go into space. That's how cool this is.
6:42:11 > 6:42:14So if you'd like to get involved, here's how you can enter.
6:42:14 > 6:42:16It really is easy.
6:42:16 > 6:42:19All you need to do is send us your design with a short paragraph,
6:42:19 > 6:42:21it doesn't need to be more than four lines,
6:42:21 > 6:42:23telling us what inspired your design.
6:42:23 > 6:42:25You can head to the Blue Peter website
6:42:25 > 6:42:27and download the application form,
6:42:27 > 6:42:29which looks a little bit like this.
6:42:29 > 6:42:31It will print off two sides of A4,
6:42:31 > 6:42:34one which clearly says where you need to put your details

6:48:19 > 6:48:22But before that, we all came from a variety of backgrounds.
6:48:22 > 6:48:24I was from the circus, Charlie was a dancer,
6:48:24 > 6:48:27these guys are gymnasts, Morgan was a free-runner.
6:48:27 > 6:48:29Yeah, just combined experience, I think.
6:48:29 > 6:48:32I can't believe you went to a university for the circus.
6:48:32 > 6:48:34I knew I went to the wrong place to study!
6:48:34 > 6:48:37For those thinking, "I'd love to get involved in this,"

6:48:41 > 6:48:45I started juggling balled up socks and fruit
6:48:45 > 6:48:48and vegetables at home, just anything I could get my hands on.

6:48:50 > 6:48:53And then I moved on to different types of juggling.
6:48:53 > 6:48:56Just safe household items, but please use soft things
