0:00:04 > 0:00:08With Easter almost upon us, today's show is going to be EGG-CELLENT.

0:00:09 > 0:00:13OK, we've got a guest on the show who is UN-BUNNY-LIEVABLE

0:00:14 > 0:00:16And these two go on a ride which is EGG-CELLENT.

0:00:16 > 0:00:19- Barney?- Yeah?- What's with the puns?

0:00:19 > 0:00:21Do you know what? Never mind that. Let's just get CRACKING.

0:00:21 > 0:00:23HE LAUGHS

0:00:23 > 0:00:25I did one at the end as... What?

0:00:37 > 0:00:38SHE SHOUTS

0:00:42 > 0:00:44APPLAUSE

0:00:44 > 0:00:45I'm clapping myself.

0:00:45 > 0:00:49- Barney, we want to know what's with all the puns?- Camera two.

0:00:49 > 0:00:52Well, Radzi, I'm letting you in to a little secret.

0:00:52 > 0:00:54You see, I just love a good YOLK. HE LAUGHS

0:00:54 > 0:00:58OK. Because Barney is clearly in such a funny mood - we all are

0:00:58 > 0:01:01today, actually - we're going to play a game called Hot Cross Puns!

0:01:01 > 0:01:02- Nice!- Lovely.

0:01:02 > 0:01:05Well, why don't you try and count as many puns as you can listen

0:01:05 > 0:01:08to with your ears and your eyes? And at the end of the show,

0:01:08 > 0:01:12we'll tell you how many is the correct answer on Fan Club: Live.

0:01:12 > 0:01:14That is a great game. Six, so far, have you been counting?

0:01:14 > 0:01:17- So, SHELL we just crack on? - Oh, dear. That makes it seven.

0:01:17 > 0:01:19It's going to be a very long day.

0:01:19 > 0:01:21But, coming up on today's show, you'll see what happened when I went

0:01:21 > 0:01:24down to the farm to basically just cuddle some little baby lambs.

0:01:24 > 0:01:26It was the best day of my entire life.

0:01:26 > 0:01:28BLEATING Aw! Did you hear that?

0:01:28 > 0:01:30- Yes, I did.- It sounds like when two sheep were in a field...

0:01:30 > 0:01:32BOTH: Yeah?

0:01:32 > 0:01:34One went, "Baa," the other one said, "Oh, I was going to say that."

0:01:34 > 0:01:37- Ha-ha, that's funny! I do the comedy on this show.- Oh, I was going to...

0:01:37 > 0:01:39He was going for a high five!

0:01:39 > 0:01:40I left you hanging! Sorry about that.

0:01:40 > 0:01:43I wouldn't leave JP Cooper hanging, that's for sure.

0:01:43 > 0:01:45He's performing later on in the show, it's September Song,

0:01:45 > 0:01:48it's beautiful, stay tuned for that, it's going to be EGGS-TRA special.

0:01:48 > 0:01:50I've got the giggles again.

0:01:50 > 0:01:53But, first, let's see what happened when Blue Peter put science

0:01:53 > 0:01:54to the test.

0:01:54 > 0:01:57- Did they do it by the book?- Oh, no.

0:02:05 > 0:02:08We are in a top-secret facility because I'm taking on

0:02:08 > 0:02:11a very special challenge.

0:02:11 > 0:02:14We're putting the laws of physics to the test. We're going to be

0:02:14 > 0:02:20taking on one of its most famous forces to push science to the limit.

0:02:20 > 0:02:22This is Mission Friction.

0:02:25 > 0:02:29This year, the BBC launched Terrific Scientific, which is all about

0:02:29 > 0:02:32getting us excited by science.

0:02:32 > 0:02:35We wanted to get involved in the biggest way possible.

0:02:35 > 0:02:39So, I called upon science expert Greg Foot to help us test

0:02:39 > 0:02:41the powers of friction.

0:02:44 > 0:02:46Greg, I'm so glad you're here to help out.

0:02:46 > 0:02:49Firstly, please tell me - what exactly is friction?

0:02:49 > 0:02:51Right, so whenever you take two objects and they touch or they

0:02:51 > 0:02:56- rub together, you get a force of friction between them.- OK.- Try this.

0:02:56 > 0:02:58- Rub your hands together.- Yeah? - What do you feel?

0:02:58 > 0:03:00- They're getting hot.- Yeah, exactly.

0:03:00 > 0:03:03So, you're having to put in energy to overcome that friction and

0:03:03 > 0:03:06some of that energy is getting transferred into heat which

0:03:06 > 0:03:07you can feel.

0:03:07 > 0:03:10So, is friction important?

0:03:10 > 0:03:13Yeah, like, so important. Right now, if there was

0:03:13 > 0:03:15- no friction, we would be sliding over all over the place.- Really?

0:03:15 > 0:03:18Yeah, you need that friction there to stay stable.

0:03:20 > 0:03:23- OK, so how do we actually test friction?- I thought you'd never ask.

0:03:23 > 0:03:25SHE LAUGHS

0:03:30 > 0:03:32- What exactly is this? - I've wanted to do this for ages.

0:03:32 > 0:03:36This is the recreation of a very famous experiment that takes

0:03:36 > 0:03:39two books and then it interleaves the pages together.

0:03:39 > 0:03:42You take the bottom page from this book then you put the bottom

0:03:42 > 0:03:44page from this book on top of it, and then a page

0:03:44 > 0:03:46from this and a page from this.

0:03:46 > 0:03:48It's kind of wrapping the pages on top of each other,

0:03:48 > 0:03:50interleaving them, and you're left with that.

0:03:50 > 0:03:53- They lock together.- I can't imagine how many hours that takes.

0:03:53 > 0:03:55Oh, so long!

0:03:55 > 0:03:59For this test, we using two chunky books, and the rubber band is there

0:03:59 > 0:04:02purely to keep the book covers from flopping about.

0:04:02 > 0:04:05- I want to show you something.- OK. - Start leaning back.- Yeah?

0:04:05 > 0:04:08- Yeah just... That's it. No, more, give it...- Really?

0:04:08 > 0:04:10Trust me, trust the science, come on.

0:04:10 > 0:04:13- OK, I'm going to go for it. Full body weight.- Come on!

0:04:13 > 0:04:15That's my whole body weight!

0:04:15 > 0:04:19'Please do not try this at home. Greg is a book-pulling expert.'

0:04:19 > 0:04:22- I'm pulling really hard and nothing is happening!- Exactly!

0:04:22 > 0:04:24You must have glued these together.

0:04:24 > 0:04:26I haven't, trust me, I have not glued them.

0:04:26 > 0:04:27It is just friction,

0:04:27 > 0:04:30so everywhere that pages are touching, you get friction

0:04:30 > 0:04:32between the pages and, think,

0:04:32 > 0:04:36there are hundreds and hundreds of pages, lots and lots of surface

0:04:36 > 0:04:37area, so much friction that

0:04:37 > 0:04:39it's going to take a massive force to pull it apart.

0:04:39 > 0:04:43- Yeah, but the question is, how massive?- Ha-ha!

0:04:43 > 0:04:45Well, we need something quite a lot stronger than us, that's for sure.

0:04:45 > 0:04:47Oh!

0:04:49 > 0:04:53How about two vans which will drive in opposite directions to try

0:04:53 > 0:04:55and pull the books apart?

0:04:55 > 0:04:57And what I've done is I've put in THIS thing -

0:04:57 > 0:04:58this is called a load cell.

0:04:58 > 0:05:01What this is going to do is tell us the maximum amount of force

0:05:01 > 0:05:04that these vans are pulling on

0:05:04 > 0:05:07either side of this bad-boy book rig.

0:05:07 > 0:05:09What's going to happen? Is it going to rip, is it going to survive?

0:05:09 > 0:05:11There's only one way to find out.

0:05:13 > 0:05:15- OK, engines on. - ENGINES REV

0:05:15 > 0:05:18- Van A, are you ready? - Van A is ready.

0:05:18 > 0:05:21- Van B, ready? - Van B ready.

0:05:21 > 0:05:23- OK, ready?- Yeah, so, ready. - Here we go.

0:05:23 > 0:05:28Three, two, one, pull!

0:05:34 > 0:05:37This is proper... This is van tug-of-war.

0:05:37 > 0:05:39Oh, my God!

0:05:39 > 0:05:42- But the book is absolutely fine.- Oh!

0:05:42 > 0:05:44Look at that!

0:05:44 > 0:05:46Try harder!

0:05:46 > 0:05:48Come on, Van B!

0:05:50 > 0:05:52VANS SCREECH

0:05:52 > 0:05:55- It's not budging.- It's not budging.

0:05:55 > 0:05:56Not even a page out of place.

0:05:56 > 0:05:58Science is working, guys.

0:05:58 > 0:06:00That's unbelievable.

0:06:00 > 0:06:02- MAN:- She is smoking!

0:06:02 > 0:06:06- Oh! Let's go in, are we good?- Yeah.

0:06:06 > 0:06:08- Going in, guys.- OK.

0:06:08 > 0:06:09I can't believe this didn't break.

0:06:09 > 0:06:121,167 kilograms.

0:06:12 > 0:06:14- So, what does that mean?- That...

0:06:14 > 0:06:20- is like hanging 18 adults off this book rig.- What?

0:06:20 > 0:06:23- I told you, I told you.- I don't understand how this is possible.

0:06:23 > 0:06:27- There's so much friction. But, you know what?- What?- This is Blue Peter.

0:06:27 > 0:06:30I think we can take this bigger.

0:06:30 > 0:06:32OK. What do you mean?

0:06:32 > 0:06:35To be honest, you really do not want to know.

0:06:36 > 0:06:40What's going to happen? If you want to find out,

0:06:40 > 0:06:44make sure you're watching part two of my Terrific Scientific challenge.

0:06:44 > 0:06:46Now, though, it's time for

0:06:46 > 0:06:49the beak badge wall, where we give you free-range

0:06:49 > 0:06:52to be creative. Olivia has got in touch and has sent us these badges.

0:06:52 > 0:06:54They're amazing. They're Blue Peter badges

0:06:54 > 0:06:55but they've got our faces on them.

0:06:55 > 0:06:58How good is that? I love it. I've got blond hair and big boots.

0:06:58 > 0:07:00Lindsey's looks amazing, Radzi's looks amazing.

0:07:00 > 0:07:02I'm wearing little dungarees!

0:07:02 > 0:07:04Even Shelley has got her own Blue Peter badge.

0:07:04 > 0:07:05Look at that up there. It's amazing.

0:07:05 > 0:07:07Olivia, thank you so much, you're a genius.

0:07:07 > 0:07:10Now, Easter, you may well have noticed, is just around

0:07:10 > 0:07:13the corner, so feast your eyes on what Grace has sent us.

0:07:13 > 0:07:15This fantastic wreath, lots of different materials,

0:07:15 > 0:07:16a flower to boot.

0:07:16 > 0:07:19Well done, Grace, that's a blue badge coming your way, but,

0:07:19 > 0:07:21Dylan on the other hand, he's made a very special Easter egg.

0:07:21 > 0:07:24- Lindsey, can you do the honours? - Yeah, sure. Ready?

0:07:24 > 0:07:26- Let's see who's hiding inside? - Happy Easter!

0:07:26 > 0:07:28- There we are, well done, Dylan. - Wahey!

0:07:28 > 0:07:31- That's got you a silver badge, my friend.- Now, check this out,

0:07:31 > 0:07:34this is amazing. It's from Lucy and Liam,

0:07:34 > 0:07:37it's a joint effort, and they've made a little chick-rabbit hutch.

0:07:37 > 0:07:39We absolutely adore this.

0:07:39 > 0:07:41Look at all the effort that's gone into that. We think it's incredible.

0:07:41 > 0:07:44- Very cool.- A badge is on its way to both of you and we just want to say

0:07:44 > 0:07:48thank you so much for all the brilliant post that you send us.

0:07:48 > 0:07:51Keep sending it in because it's the Easter holidays and your

0:07:51 > 0:07:54badge can get you into over 200 attractions across the UK...

0:07:54 > 0:07:56- HARMONISING: # All for free! # - Yes!

0:07:56 > 0:07:59- That felt good.- Singers over here as well, that was beautiful.

0:07:59 > 0:08:02Thank you. Check the website for all the details.

0:08:02 > 0:08:05Thousands of you get in touch with us every single week,

0:08:05 > 0:08:09both with post via the big badge wall, as well as via our website.

0:08:09 > 0:08:14- But, there can only be one fan of the month. Radzi...- Do the dance!

0:08:14 > 0:08:16Yeah!

0:08:16 > 0:08:18So, even though they just joined in January,

0:08:18 > 0:08:21this person is amazing at leaving comments on the BP website,

0:08:21 > 0:08:23they do the puzzle marathons, the anagrams, they get

0:08:23 > 0:08:26- involved, they're amazing. - They've been telling lots of jokes,

0:08:26 > 0:08:29they've been getting involved with the caption competitions and

0:08:29 > 0:08:31they've been going out of their way to make new friends.

0:08:31 > 0:08:34I got no idea what that dance is, it's like a really slow happy dance.

0:08:34 > 0:08:36Without further ado, can we have a drumroll, please?

0:08:36 > 0:08:39The fan of the month in the month of April is...

0:08:39 > 0:08:42Beige Mini Butterfly!

0:08:42 > 0:08:44- Well done. - CHEERING

0:08:44 > 0:08:46Congratulations, you'll know when that arrives because

0:08:46 > 0:08:48the envelope will be egg-shaped.

0:08:48 > 0:08:50If that's got you into the mood for Easter,

0:08:50 > 0:08:52make sure you head online to the Blue Peter website.

0:08:52 > 0:08:54Lindsey and I played an EGGS-TRA special game where we had

0:08:54 > 0:08:56to guess what was inside Easter eggs.

0:08:56 > 0:08:58Some of the ingredients were awful, really awful, some of them

0:08:58 > 0:09:01were brilliant. Make sure you're watching - it's really fun.

0:09:01 > 0:09:03- Some of them were V bad, weren't they?- You had a really V bad one.

0:09:03 > 0:09:05Don't say it.

0:09:05 > 0:09:07Now, spring has officially sprung, so I thought it was time

0:09:07 > 0:09:10to get down to the farm and meet some adorable little baby animals.

0:09:10 > 0:09:13Do you know what, Linds? You're always POACHING the best shows.

0:09:13 > 0:09:16Stop with the puns. Run the VT. Stop it.

0:09:19 > 0:09:2316 million lambs are born in the UK every single year.

0:09:23 > 0:09:26That's almost twice the population of London.

0:09:26 > 0:09:32And that's brilliant, because I love lambs. And to prove it...

0:09:32 > 0:09:33BLEATING

0:09:33 > 0:09:35My name is Lindsey Russell, I'm 22...

0:09:35 > 0:09:38That was my Blue Peter audition and I'm holding

0:09:38 > 0:09:42a baby sheep because I've always wanted to have a go at lambing.

0:09:44 > 0:09:46But, today, I might actually get to fulfil

0:09:46 > 0:09:49a lifelong dream and deliver a baby lamb.

0:09:49 > 0:09:53Can you tell I'm mega excited? And I know just the person to help me.

0:09:53 > 0:09:57Lambing season is the time of year in which female sheep, called

0:09:57 > 0:09:59ewes, give birth to their babies.

0:09:59 > 0:10:00BLEATING

0:10:00 > 0:10:03And, sometimes, they need a helping hand.

0:10:03 > 0:10:07So, I've come to this farm in Cheshire to meet Farmer Robert,

0:10:07 > 0:10:10a lambing legend, to find out more.

0:10:10 > 0:10:11Lambing is a whole process.

0:10:11 > 0:10:14It starts back in November and finishes in April, when the

0:10:14 > 0:10:17- ewes give birth to the lambs. - And during that process,

0:10:17 > 0:10:19does anything happen in between, or do you just leave them to it?

0:10:19 > 0:10:23They're just out to graze and then they're scanned in January

0:10:23 > 0:10:25to see how many lambs are in each ewe.

0:10:25 > 0:10:29So, it turns out, looking after pregnant ewes is hi-tech.

0:10:29 > 0:10:33Each sheep is scanned with an ultrasound to see how many

0:10:33 > 0:10:35lambs they're going to have.

0:10:35 > 0:10:38So, is that kind of what human mum would have if she was having a baby?

0:10:38 > 0:10:42Yeah. Pretty much. It's all for nutrients to see...

0:10:42 > 0:10:45The ones with more lambs need more nutrients than the ones with one.

0:10:45 > 0:10:47Well, listen, it's Blue Peter and it's lambing,

0:10:47 > 0:10:50so I want to get mega hands-on. Can I help with some of the scanning?

0:10:50 > 0:10:52Yeah, I'll send you off to James now, who is scanning, and catch up

0:10:52 > 0:10:55- with you later on. - Amazing. I can't wait for this.

0:10:55 > 0:10:59I'm not going to rock up in just any old gear - I need to be prepared.

0:10:59 > 0:11:01James, how are you doing?

0:11:01 > 0:11:04I heard you needed some medical assistance, and I'm here.

0:11:04 > 0:11:08Lindsey, this is a farm, you look ridiculous. Go and get changed.

0:11:08 > 0:11:11'All right, James. Only making an effort.'

0:11:11 > 0:11:13So what can you see on the screen today?

0:11:13 > 0:11:15I'm just here now to check that everything is healthy.

0:11:15 > 0:11:19OK, so she should just be having one, so let's have a little look.

0:11:19 > 0:11:22- So, I can see the outline of the body there.- Oh, yeah.

0:11:22 > 0:11:24And then, just at the bottom there,

0:11:24 > 0:11:26with the little bit that's twitching, that's his heartbeat.

0:11:26 > 0:11:29Oh, is it? And there's just one heartbeat in there?

0:11:29 > 0:11:31- There's just one.- OK. - So, she is all done.

0:11:31 > 0:11:34I can let her go and you can go and catch up with Robert.

0:11:34 > 0:11:37- Brilliant, thank you so much, James. Good luck.- OK.

0:11:37 > 0:11:40Before I get to have a go at delivering my own lamb,

0:11:40 > 0:11:42Robert wants to show me how it's done.

0:11:42 > 0:11:44We're just going to have a feel,

0:11:44 > 0:11:46to see where the next one's up to, just for peace of mind.

0:11:46 > 0:11:48OK, I'll follow you.

0:11:48 > 0:11:51The key to a good delivery is only helping Mum when she needs it.

0:11:51 > 0:11:53- SHE GASPS - This one's...- I can see a leg!

0:11:53 > 0:11:56- Is that a leg? - Yeah.- Oh, my goodness.

0:11:56 > 0:11:58OK, this is happening.

0:11:58 > 0:11:59'Once you can see the lamb's feet,

0:11:59 > 0:12:02'they sometimes need a very gentle pull

0:12:02 > 0:12:04'until you see a head.'

0:12:04 > 0:12:07Oh, my goodness! Oh, my goodness, I can see its head!

0:12:07 > 0:12:09Now we've popped the legs out, she's pushing herself.

0:12:09 > 0:12:12- OK. She's pushing? - Yeah.- Well done.

0:12:12 > 0:12:14'A bit more pulling and...'

0:12:14 > 0:12:16Oh, it opened its little eyes.

0:12:16 > 0:12:17Oh, my goodness!

0:12:17 > 0:12:21'So there we have it, a lovely new lamb. Easy, right?

0:12:21 > 0:12:23'Well, I'm about to find out.

0:12:23 > 0:12:24'Because, as we're in the barn,

0:12:24 > 0:12:27'we get the call that one of the ewes outside

0:12:27 > 0:12:32'has already had one of her twins, and I need to deliver the second.

0:12:32 > 0:12:37'I'm finally going to get the chance to make one of my dreams come true.'

0:12:37 > 0:12:39- SHE GASPS - Oh, my gosh, that's its head!

0:12:39 > 0:12:41- Yeah. Go on, keep pulling. - Oh, my gosh.

0:12:41 > 0:12:43- Pull round there.- Oh, my gosh.

0:12:43 > 0:12:47- Oh, my gosh. Do I just keep...? - Yeah, keep going.

0:12:47 > 0:12:49- Is this...? - Now you need to clear all the...

0:12:49 > 0:12:52- all the gunge from its nose. - Oh, my goodness!

0:12:52 > 0:12:55..and its mouth, so it can keep breathing.

0:12:55 > 0:12:56- That's it.- Oh, mate.

0:12:56 > 0:12:57Welcome to the world!

0:12:57 > 0:12:59I feel like crying!

0:12:59 > 0:13:01Here you go, Mum.

0:13:02 > 0:13:04- Is he all right?- Yeah.

0:13:06 > 0:13:08Oh, my goodness.

0:13:09 > 0:13:11Oh, wow.

0:13:11 > 0:13:14'Being here to help bring this little guy into the world

0:13:14 > 0:13:16'has been a real privilege...'

0:13:16 > 0:13:17LAMB BLEATS

0:13:17 > 0:13:20'..and a true once-in-a-lifetime experience.'

0:13:20 > 0:13:23I've got to say, I've wanted to do this for such a long time,

0:13:23 > 0:13:26and it is even better than I imagined.

0:13:26 > 0:13:29I cannot believe what's happened today. It's been awesome.

0:13:29 > 0:13:31And I've made little friend!

0:13:33 > 0:13:35MUSIC: September Song by JP Cooper

0:13:35 > 0:13:37Now, unless you've been living under a mossy stone

0:13:37 > 0:13:39for the past few months, you will have heard this song.

0:13:39 > 0:13:42It's amazing, beautifully sung, beautifully written.

0:13:42 > 0:13:43It's called September Song,

0:13:43 > 0:13:46and the man behind it is right here in the studio, it's JP Cooper!

0:13:46 > 0:13:48CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

0:13:48 > 0:13:50- How you doing, mate? - JP. Keep it real, bro.

0:13:50 > 0:13:52- We've never done that before.- Yeah.

0:13:52 > 0:13:54We just tried something to look cool. That's my fault entirely.

0:13:54 > 0:13:57Let's start by talking about the Blue Peter badge. What a moment.

0:13:57 > 0:14:00Amazing, yeah. It's taken me a few years to get it, but...

0:14:00 > 0:14:03- finally.- You have to earn it, that's the point of you being here.

0:14:03 > 0:14:05- I've been working so hard, so... - Mate, we've seen.

0:14:05 > 0:14:08- I mean, last year, we got Perfect Strangers, that went platinum.- Yeah.

0:14:08 > 0:14:10September Song has been viewed by over 21 million people -

0:14:10 > 0:14:12that's in quite a short space of time as well.

0:14:12 > 0:14:15- It's gone really well for you, hasn't it?- It's amazing, yeah.

0:14:15 > 0:14:17Can't quite get them numbers in my little head,

0:14:17 > 0:14:19but, yeah, it's been an incredible year.

0:14:19 > 0:14:22I suppose it's one of those times when the years can absolutely fly by

0:14:22 > 0:14:24if you don't grab hold of them and take note of what's happening.

0:14:24 > 0:14:27- Luckily, you've got a film crew following you around.- Yeah.

0:14:27 > 0:14:30We have a clip here, which is kind of one of your video updates,

0:14:30 > 0:14:32where you tell people what you're up to.

0:14:32 > 0:14:34Talk us through what we can see here.

0:14:34 > 0:14:37So the song in the background is actually my next single,

0:14:37 > 0:14:38it's a song called Passport Home.

0:14:38 > 0:14:40But we'd just been out in New York,

0:14:40 > 0:14:42and, as you can see, it was rather wet.

0:14:42 > 0:14:44But we were out there doing a few shows, meeting a few people.

0:14:44 > 0:14:47Yeah, it's a bit of a taste of what the rest of the year

0:14:47 > 0:14:48- will be like for me. - It's beautifully done.

0:14:48 > 0:14:50- It will be quite a year.- Amazing.

0:14:50 > 0:14:52A lot of people are enjoying your music at the moment.

0:14:52 > 0:14:54That in itself must feel amazing. As a songwriter, you know,

0:14:54 > 0:14:57all you want is people to listen to your music and like it.

0:14:57 > 0:14:59But you've got a huge amount of people liking your stuff.

0:14:59 > 0:15:00It's finally getting there.

0:15:00 > 0:15:03I spent a lot of years playing in front of small amounts of people,

0:15:03 > 0:15:05and to go out and see the crowds growing, yeah, it's mind-blowing.

0:15:05 > 0:15:07That's happening this year.

0:15:07 > 0:15:09So from small crowds to big crowds - you're touring, aren't you?

0:15:09 > 0:15:11Yeah, we'll be out and about throughout the summer,

0:15:11 > 0:15:14a lot of festivals. I've got my own tour happening.

0:15:14 > 0:15:17- So, yeah, very excited. - Mate, I'm excited that you're here.

0:15:17 > 0:15:18Can't wait to hear you later.

0:15:18 > 0:15:21So September Song, with a piano and a vocal.

0:15:21 > 0:15:23Does it get much better than that?

0:15:23 > 0:15:24- We'll see.- Mate, I love it.

0:15:24 > 0:15:26Stay tuned for JP Cooper a bit later in the show.

0:15:26 > 0:15:28I crept into your shot then, let's do it on here.

0:15:28 > 0:15:30JP Cooper's coming up later.

0:15:30 > 0:15:31Radzi, Lindsey.

0:15:31 > 0:15:33Now it's time to see what happened

0:15:33 > 0:15:35for the next part of my amazing challenge,

0:15:35 > 0:15:37- all in the name of science.- Hey!

0:15:37 > 0:15:39- What are you doing? - I want to play as well.

0:15:40 > 0:15:45- So we've seen that our two books can withstand a van tug-of-war.- Yes.

0:15:45 > 0:15:48But this is Blue Peter. How can we make this more extreme, Greg?

0:15:48 > 0:15:49I've got a plan.

0:15:49 > 0:15:52- You've seen how strong that friction can be, yeah?- Mm-hm.

0:15:52 > 0:15:54- Do you trust it?- Yeah, I think so.

0:15:54 > 0:15:57No, no, no. I mean, do you REALLY trust it?

0:15:57 > 0:16:00- You're starting to worry me. - Come on, then.

0:16:00 > 0:16:01(What's he doing?)

0:16:04 > 0:16:09'Greg has a super-sized experiment that will really test these books.

0:16:09 > 0:16:12'And it's all going to take place at the home of Blue Peter,

0:16:12 > 0:16:13'at Media City in Salford.'

0:16:14 > 0:16:20- So, Greg, we've built our own mini Media City here.- Yeah.

0:16:20 > 0:16:21Why?

0:16:21 > 0:16:27My plan is that I want to dangle you underneath those interweaved books,

0:16:27 > 0:16:31attach the other end to a zip wire...

0:16:31 > 0:16:34OK? So this is you here.

0:16:34 > 0:16:39..and then send you 235 metres down a zip wire,

0:16:39 > 0:16:41all the way down into the Piazza,

0:16:41 > 0:16:45dangling using nothing but friction.

0:16:45 > 0:16:47Is this a joke? Are you joking?

0:16:47 > 0:16:49No!

0:16:49 > 0:16:51I actually can't get my head around that.

0:16:51 > 0:16:54This is a proper, proper Blue Peter challenge.

0:16:54 > 0:16:57It doesn't get more extreme than this.

0:16:59 > 0:17:04So I'm going to zip wire 235 metres,

0:17:04 > 0:17:07and the only thing holding my weight will be two books.

0:17:07 > 0:17:10Right, so what's the plan? What's the best way to make this safe?

0:17:10 > 0:17:11Whilst I get my head around that,

0:17:11 > 0:17:16Greg works with our technical team to make sure everything is safe.

0:17:16 > 0:17:18'And, before we do this for real,

0:17:18 > 0:17:21'he wants to test the book rig with my weight.'

0:17:21 > 0:17:23- Uh-oh! Here we go. - GREG LAUGHS

0:17:23 > 0:17:25This is it, moment of truth.

0:17:25 > 0:17:26- Put this on first.- Thank you.

0:17:26 > 0:17:30- OK. I'm scared.- Yeah?

0:17:30 > 0:17:32OK, so this is how this is going to work, OK?

0:17:32 > 0:17:35This red line is directly attached to the bottom of the books.

0:17:35 > 0:17:37So you are going to be attached to this.

0:17:40 > 0:17:42OK, so, if the books rip, OK,

0:17:42 > 0:17:45this black line will hold you.

0:17:45 > 0:17:48- How are you feeling?- How do you think I'm feeling? I feel sick!

0:17:48 > 0:17:49- GREG LAUGHS - I don't want to do it.

0:17:49 > 0:17:53- Do you want to do it?- Trust the science, trust the science.- Oh.

0:17:53 > 0:17:55- OK, guys, let's take it up a bit. - For real?

0:17:55 > 0:17:56Oh!

0:17:56 > 0:17:57GREG LAUGHS

0:17:57 > 0:17:59- It's so fast.- That's fast!

0:17:59 > 0:18:01LINDSEY SCREAMS

0:18:01 > 0:18:02I'm going so fast!

0:18:02 > 0:18:04Bye.

0:18:04 > 0:18:06GREG LAUGHS See you!

0:18:06 > 0:18:07I'm so scared.

0:18:07 > 0:18:09Just don't look down.

0:18:09 > 0:18:11Do you know what? I'd actually rather look down than up,

0:18:11 > 0:18:14because up means looking at two books holding my weight.

0:18:14 > 0:18:17- Get me down! - All right, let's bring her down.

0:18:22 > 0:18:24- OK.- Oh, oh, oh!

0:18:24 > 0:18:25- Oh!- All right, hold it.

0:18:25 > 0:18:29My feet touching the floor was a great feeling then.

0:18:29 > 0:18:32That, I cannot wrap my head around, the fact that I was just hanging

0:18:32 > 0:18:35from up there with two books holding my weight.

0:18:35 > 0:18:38- That doesn't make sense. - There's so much friction in here.

0:18:38 > 0:18:40So, how do you feel? Are you ready for the big event?

0:18:40 > 0:18:43Well, yeah, I guess so, bring it on.

0:18:43 > 0:18:45(Help!)

0:18:50 > 0:18:52So, I may have hung from the books indoors

0:18:52 > 0:18:58but going down a zip wire at over 25mph will be very different.

0:18:58 > 0:19:01This challenge is so big, we need another presenter.

0:19:01 > 0:19:05Someone with nerves of steel and a matching suit.

0:19:05 > 0:19:06We need Radzi!

0:19:11 > 0:19:14So, Lindsey and Radzi are just on the way to the crane.

0:19:14 > 0:19:17We've got an amazing audience here. And over there is a crane.

0:19:17 > 0:19:20That crane stands 35 metres high.

0:19:20 > 0:19:23The zip wire is 235 metres long.

0:19:23 > 0:19:25They're going to be stopped here,

0:19:25 > 0:19:27and I'm going to meet them at the finish line.

0:19:27 > 0:19:29But this is what they are hanging from.

0:19:29 > 0:19:31And I wanted to prove to you that there is no glue in this at all.

0:19:31 > 0:19:34So, it is just the books

0:19:34 > 0:19:39with each page overlapped on top of the one below.

0:19:39 > 0:19:46No glue at all. We are putting our faith and our trust in the friction.

0:19:46 > 0:19:48Ah! Let's do this!

0:19:51 > 0:19:54As we get into position 35 metres up,

0:19:54 > 0:19:57it's all become sickeningly real.

0:19:57 > 0:19:58I didn't think it was that high.

0:19:58 > 0:20:01And now that we're up here looking down to where I need to go,

0:20:01 > 0:20:04- oh, my tummy just went.- That's a long way!- My tummy just went.

0:20:07 > 0:20:09I feel a bit sick. I'm not going to look for...

0:20:09 > 0:20:10I'm just going to look this way.

0:20:10 > 0:20:13- I'm...- Step over here, come on. - No, I don't...

0:20:13 > 0:20:15Come on, it's not as bad as you're making out, you know that.

0:20:21 > 0:20:23- Are you ready to go?- No. - You look ready to me.

0:20:23 > 0:20:25Oh!

0:20:25 > 0:20:28- Go on, Linds!- No, no, no, no, I feel really scared. Do I... What...

0:20:28 > 0:20:31I'll keep my arm here a minute. So you come and shuffle to my arm.

0:20:31 > 0:20:34Ugh. I've just looked over the edge.

0:20:34 > 0:20:35I'm sorry, what are we doing?

0:20:35 > 0:20:38Why are we trusting a book to get me to the other... Ugh.

0:20:38 > 0:20:40Ugh, I've just looked over again.

0:20:40 > 0:20:43- Zip line is ready.- Here we go, here we go, here we go.

0:20:43 > 0:20:44Five.

0:20:44 > 0:20:45CHILDREN: Four.

0:20:45 > 0:20:47- Three. - Two.

0:20:47 > 0:20:49One...go!

0:20:49 > 0:20:50LINDSEY SCREAMS

0:20:53 > 0:20:55Just the friction between those pages!

0:20:57 > 0:20:59I'm going so fast!

0:21:01 > 0:21:03LINDSEY SQUEALS

0:21:03 > 0:21:04'I cannot believe that worked.'

0:21:04 > 0:21:07- How was it, Linds? - I'm crying!

0:21:08 > 0:21:10Get me off, get me off!

0:21:10 > 0:21:12- It worked! - Mate, that was amazing.

0:21:12 > 0:21:15You know what? The speed really picked up.

0:21:15 > 0:21:18About halfway through, that went from being fine

0:21:18 > 0:21:20to actually, "How am I going to stop?"

0:21:20 > 0:21:25The whole of world's like, "Come on, science, come on, friction!"

0:21:25 > 0:21:29Science did it. The question is, is science going to hold Radzi?

0:21:37 > 0:21:41You know what? Radzi's OK with heights. That won't be his problem.

0:21:41 > 0:21:44I wasn't nervous at all watching Lindsey.

0:21:44 > 0:21:48But now I know that I'm using the same books that she used,

0:21:48 > 0:21:50and the weather's getting worse, and it's raining...

0:21:50 > 0:21:53Well, I think what normally happens when paper gets wet,

0:21:53 > 0:21:55it gets all soggy and mushy.

0:21:55 > 0:21:57Yeah, and it tears easily.

0:21:57 > 0:21:58Yep. I don't think it's going to be able to take

0:21:58 > 0:22:00as much load on it as soon as it gets wet.

0:22:00 > 0:22:03Don't say that, Greg. Come on. Come on, Radz. I think he's near.

0:22:03 > 0:22:05I'm going to do it.

0:22:05 > 0:22:07Wish me luck.

0:22:07 > 0:22:12So, will two soggy books hold Radzi's weight for 235 metres

0:22:12 > 0:22:17at speeds of over 25mph? Cue the countdown.

0:22:17 > 0:22:19- Five. - CHILDREN: Four.

0:22:19 > 0:22:21- Three. - Two, one.

0:22:21 > 0:22:23Woo!

0:22:23 > 0:22:25RADZI SHOUTS

0:22:25 > 0:22:28We are flying! Woo!

0:22:30 > 0:22:31RADZI WHOOPS ECSTATICALLY

0:22:33 > 0:22:37They're holding. These books work!

0:22:37 > 0:22:39THEY ALL SHOUT

0:22:41 > 0:22:42Hi, mate.

0:22:42 > 0:22:45Hey! Greg, you're right, it works.

0:22:45 > 0:22:47Science worked!

0:22:47 > 0:22:48Thank you, books.

0:22:50 > 0:22:51Unbelievable.

0:22:51 > 0:22:54Even with the rain, even with you doing it first, it works.

0:22:54 > 0:22:58I told you, there is so much friction between all those pages.

0:22:58 > 0:23:01- Yes!- It is... That is my kind of science.

0:23:01 > 0:23:03- Greg, thank you so much for keeping us safe.- You're very welcome.

0:23:03 > 0:23:05- Thank you to all the team. - Yeah.

0:23:05 > 0:23:08I guess that's what I call Terrific Scientific.

0:23:13 > 0:23:15- Best day ever.- Woo!- So fast.

0:23:15 > 0:23:17If you want to see even more of me just screaming

0:23:17 > 0:23:19and having the time of my life,

0:23:19 > 0:23:20then head to the BP website,

0:23:20 > 0:23:23because there's actual footage from my head cam. It's very funny.

0:23:23 > 0:23:24And, while you're there,

0:23:24 > 0:23:26it's the Easter hols, so there's some experiments

0:23:26 > 0:23:28you can actually check out as part of Terrific Scientific DIY.

0:23:28 > 0:23:31- It's very fun.- Well, that's it for this week's show.

0:23:31 > 0:23:35Next week you can find out who won our London 2017 mascot competition.

0:23:35 > 0:23:38Three words - thing of dreams!

0:23:38 > 0:23:41I went to WrestleMania, actually WrestleMania. I went there.

0:24:12 > 0:24:14Excitable young man right there.

0:24:14 > 0:24:16Now, though, to take us out and finish the show in style,

0:24:16 > 0:24:18please welcome JP Cooper with September Song.

0:24:18 > 0:24:20See you next week.

0:24:20 > 0:24:22CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

0:24:22 > 0:24:26PIANO INTRODUCTION

0:24:32 > 0:24:37# My love is strong as a lion Soft as the cotton you lie in

0:24:37 > 0:24:42# The times we got hot like an iron You and I

0:24:42 > 0:24:48# Our hearts had never been broken We were so innocent, darling
