0:00:04 > 0:00:06Today's Blue Peter is all about this.
0:00:06 > 0:00:08It is, of course, the silver badge,
0:00:08 > 0:00:11and it's given to blue-badge holders who have done something different.
0:00:11 > 0:00:12So, that got me thinking.
0:00:12 > 0:00:14I'm going to do something different in the studio today.
0:00:14 > 0:00:16Meet the new Barney.
0:00:16 > 0:00:18Hello, Camera 2.
0:00:18 > 0:00:20And the new Radzi.
0:00:20 > 0:00:23- Happy dance!- How cool is that?! - Happy dance? That's what I do!
0:00:23 > 0:00:26- Oh, hey, guys. WORRIED:- What's going on here?
0:00:27 > 0:00:29Whoa!
0:00:43 > 0:00:45- The robots are coming! Everybody run!- Help!
0:00:45 > 0:00:47- No, you'll be fine. They are beautiful things.- Yeah!
0:00:47 > 0:00:50We're going to find out all about artificial intelligence
0:00:50 > 0:00:52- on today's show.- Have a look at them. They are so cool.
0:00:52 > 0:00:54And, look, little puppy robots on the floor.
0:00:54 > 0:00:55- Adorable.- Want one.
0:00:55 > 0:00:57Something that's less adorable is this.
0:00:57 > 0:01:00I went for a little dip with some sharks,
0:01:00 > 0:01:02- and it was really scary! - I like sharks.
0:01:02 > 0:01:05We all play our part in restoring a 69-year-old locomotive
0:01:05 > 0:01:08and get it up and running once again.
0:01:08 > 0:01:10And that locomotive is called Blue Peter.
0:01:10 > 0:01:11Also, Camera 2, Shelley is going to
0:01:11 > 0:01:13be hiding somewhere on today's show.
0:01:13 > 0:01:16The first person to find her and get in touch using those details
0:01:16 > 0:01:18wins their very own unicorn called Ralph.
0:01:18 > 0:01:20THEY LAUGH
0:01:20 > 0:01:21I'll let you have that one this week.
0:01:21 > 0:01:23As well as that, check this out.
0:01:23 > 0:01:25We are in the middle of our Big Badge Boat Bonanza,
0:01:25 > 0:01:29where we're encouraging you to get as many BP badges as you can
0:01:29 > 0:01:30and plonk them on the boat.
0:01:30 > 0:01:33Those badges in question are the blue, the green, the sport -
0:01:33 > 0:01:37the purple, and of course this little fellow -
0:01:37 > 0:01:38the star of today's show
0:01:38 > 0:01:41and a badge that all BP super fans want to have,
0:01:41 > 0:01:44and that's because it means you've done something twice.
0:01:44 > 0:01:47Want to find out more? Take a look at this.
0:01:47 > 0:01:51Here on Blue Peter, we love it when you get in touch.
0:01:51 > 0:01:54It's so nice seeing the stuff that you send to us.
0:01:54 > 0:01:57So we thought we'd make this rather special film
0:01:57 > 0:01:58about silver badges.
0:02:01 > 0:02:04No, no, no. Look, guys, silver BADGES,
0:02:04 > 0:02:05like this one here.
0:02:07 > 0:02:10People often ask me how you earn a silver badge.
0:02:10 > 0:02:12Well, let me explain.
0:02:12 > 0:02:15This here is a silver badge,
0:02:15 > 0:02:17and this here is the blue badge.
0:02:18 > 0:02:23To earn the silver badge, you first must have the blue badge,
0:02:23 > 0:02:26and then do something different to how you got this one.
0:02:26 > 0:02:28You see? Simple.
0:02:28 > 0:02:31So if you're feeling creative, why not make a...make?
0:02:31 > 0:02:33Like Isabella did to earn her silver badge
0:02:33 > 0:02:36with this awesome model of Iggy.
0:02:39 > 0:02:42If making things isn't your cup of tea,
0:02:42 > 0:02:45then perhaps you could make a story, like Evie did.
0:02:45 > 0:02:47Or perhaps like Antonia,
0:02:47 > 0:02:49you could make a poem
0:02:49 > 0:02:52and hers is Blue Peter Is The Place To Be.
0:02:52 > 0:02:54You can do whatever you want,
0:02:54 > 0:02:57just so long as you didn't do that to earn your blue badge.
0:02:59 > 0:03:01There once was a tortoise called Shelley
0:03:01 > 0:03:04A world-famous star of the telly
0:03:04 > 0:03:06And when she had beans in her belly
0:03:06 > 0:03:08The toilet would get very...
0:03:08 > 0:03:10Oh, what's the word?
0:03:11 > 0:03:13And if you do earn yourself a silver badge,
0:03:13 > 0:03:15then you'll be joining some illustrious names.
0:03:15 > 0:03:17You didn't know we were going to do that, did you?
0:03:17 > 0:03:18Wow, I actually didn't know that!
0:03:18 > 0:03:20- That's amazing! Thank you. - Well, congratulations.
0:03:20 > 0:03:24- My gosh! - Not many people have one of those.
0:03:24 > 0:03:25This is an honour, truly.
0:03:25 > 0:03:27You've earnt your silver badge as well.
0:03:27 > 0:03:29- No way!- Way!
0:03:29 > 0:03:30Oh, my gosh!
0:03:30 > 0:03:33Yes! This is genuinely the best thing ever!
0:03:33 > 0:03:35I've got another badge here for you, actually,
0:03:35 > 0:03:37another Blue Peter badge, so I'm going to put that up by the camera.
0:03:40 > 0:03:42So go on, what are you waiting for?
0:03:42 > 0:03:44Get creative and get in touch.
0:03:44 > 0:03:47We want to see silver badges EVERYWHERE!
0:03:49 > 0:03:52Argh, this again?!
0:03:52 > 0:03:53So there you have it, all the details you need
0:03:53 > 0:03:55to get your silver badge.
0:03:55 > 0:03:58Now, let's talk robots and welcome Dr Thusha Rajendran.
0:03:58 > 0:03:59CHEERING
0:03:59 > 0:04:02- So excited about this. Oh, welcome to the show.- Thank you very much.
0:04:02 > 0:04:04So, you're a professor at Heriot-Watt University,
0:04:04 > 0:04:06and this year is the year of robotics.
0:04:06 > 0:04:08Let's talk about your research that you do.
0:04:08 > 0:04:09OK. Well, I'm a psychologist
0:04:09 > 0:04:11and I'm interested in human behaviour,
0:04:11 > 0:04:13but I'm especially interested in how people respond
0:04:13 > 0:04:16to artificially intelligent agents like robots.
0:04:16 > 0:04:18Now, AI, or artificial intelligence, is the kind of thing you see
0:04:18 > 0:04:20in movies, and it's definitely in our phones.
0:04:20 > 0:04:22It's like a computer kind of wisdom almost.
0:04:22 > 0:04:24Can you explain it?
0:04:24 > 0:04:26Well, it's a tricky definition, but effectively
0:04:26 > 0:04:29artificial intelligence is any kind of intelligence that you see
0:04:29 > 0:04:30in something and you say,
0:04:30 > 0:04:33"Wow, that's intelligent in a way that humans understand."
0:04:33 > 0:04:35OK, speaking of which, let's talk about our first robot
0:04:35 > 0:04:38- that we're going to meet. Who is this?- OK, welcome to Alex.
0:04:39 > 0:04:40Alex is going to help us
0:04:40 > 0:04:44help people with autism understand emotional expressions.
0:04:44 > 0:04:46Alex does this through a series of discs it has.
0:04:46 > 0:04:49And it can pretty much do any emotional expression you want.
0:04:49 > 0:04:52How do we react to it when she doesn't look human?
0:04:52 > 0:04:54- How does that affect us? - Great question.
0:04:54 > 0:04:57Well, there is an effect called the uncanny valley effect,
0:04:57 > 0:05:02and that is that we humans, we don't like robots to be too humanlike.
0:05:02 > 0:05:04Yeah, because it is too human, but almost...
0:05:04 > 0:05:06It's not human enough to convince us that it is human,
0:05:06 > 0:05:08- so you're not too sure whether it is robot or...- That's right.
0:05:08 > 0:05:10That's actually not a very nice look, guys.
0:05:10 > 0:05:13- We don't like it.- It's quite weird. Alex, however, is very handsome.
0:05:13 > 0:05:15What can Alex do? What can you demonstrate for us?
0:05:15 > 0:05:17Do you want to have a go at guessing some of the emotions?
0:05:17 > 0:05:18- Yes. Absolutely.- OK.
0:05:20 > 0:05:22Um, that's laughing.
0:05:22 > 0:05:24- OK, pretty close.- Happy.- Yeah.
0:05:24 > 0:05:26Um, that's...
0:05:26 > 0:05:29Well, I want to say either angry or sceptical.
0:05:29 > 0:05:31- Spot on, angry.- OK.
0:05:31 > 0:05:33Shocked!
0:05:33 > 0:05:35Definitely shocked about that last one.
0:05:35 > 0:05:36- Three out of three?- Perfect.
0:05:36 > 0:05:38That'll do. Alex, thank you very much for a great job.
0:05:38 > 0:05:40I want Alex. OK, what's next?
0:05:40 > 0:05:43- Robot pets.- Oh, it just gets better, doesn't it?
0:05:43 > 0:05:45These guys are really cute. Who are they?
0:05:45 > 0:05:48- Well, these are MiRo dogs. - MiRo?- Yes.
0:05:48 > 0:05:51Now, be honest, are they artificially intelligent or
0:05:51 > 0:05:53is somebody over there with a control? I can't see anybody.
0:05:53 > 0:05:55They're autonomous, which means they're kind of
0:05:55 > 0:05:58in charge of their own actions, a bit like your pets at home.
0:05:58 > 0:06:00- How do you know what they're doing? There are lights on them.- Yeah.
0:06:00 > 0:06:03So the green lights mean they're happy, the red lights are...
0:06:03 > 0:06:05If you flick their ears or do something not very nice to them,
0:06:05 > 0:06:07that means they are unhappy or scared.
0:06:07 > 0:06:08Don't flick your pets, guys.
0:06:08 > 0:06:11- If they show white, they're kind of exploring.- OK.
0:06:11 > 0:06:12So they tell you how they are feeling
0:06:12 > 0:06:14- and what they're doing.- Yeah. - What about memory?
0:06:14 > 0:06:17Pets come up to you when you come home from work.
0:06:17 > 0:06:19Or, you know, when you're out in the park, they will run towards you
0:06:19 > 0:06:22rather than somebody else cos they recognise you as their owners.
0:06:22 > 0:06:24Well, we are not at that stage yet,
0:06:24 > 0:06:26but we want them to have an attachment,
0:06:26 > 0:06:28so we are aiming towards that in the future.
0:06:28 > 0:06:30So who do MiRos help? Who are they for?
0:06:30 > 0:06:32Well, they're for anybody who, you know, couldn't have a pet,
0:06:32 > 0:06:35so for example, somebody who is old or somebody who's got a health
0:06:35 > 0:06:37problem, or children in hospital.
0:06:37 > 0:06:38You don't have to take them out for a walk.
0:06:38 > 0:06:41You don't have to toilet them. You don't have to feed them.
0:06:41 > 0:06:43You don't have to clean up after them.
0:06:43 > 0:06:45So they're perfect for anybody who would like a pet
0:06:45 > 0:06:47but can't have one for whatever reason.
0:06:47 > 0:06:49Every household should have one.
0:06:49 > 0:06:51They're incredible. They are all incredible,
0:06:51 > 0:06:54- but we have literally saved the best for last, haven't we?- We have.
0:06:54 > 0:06:56Everyone, come over here and meet Pepper.
0:06:58 > 0:07:00Now, this is the one I'm taking home, just so you know.
0:07:00 > 0:07:02She's so cool. What can you tell me about her?
0:07:02 > 0:07:03Why don't you ask her yourself?
0:07:03 > 0:07:06- What, I can ask her, can I? - Yeah.- Sure. OK.
0:07:06 > 0:07:09Pepper, tell me about yourself.
0:07:09 > 0:07:12I am a service robot being trained to work
0:07:12 > 0:07:13at a supermarket in Finland.
0:07:13 > 0:07:17I would be happy to assist you with any questions you might have.
0:07:17 > 0:07:21- That's so cool. Any questions?- Yeah. - All right, I've got another one.
0:07:21 > 0:07:23Pepper, can I have a hug?
0:07:23 > 0:07:26- Does someone need a hug?- Yes.
0:07:26 > 0:07:27Ha-ha-ha!
0:07:27 > 0:07:29Mm-mm!
0:07:29 > 0:07:32Oh, that's lovely, thank you.
0:07:32 > 0:07:33Wow. She's really cool.
0:07:33 > 0:07:35So, what is Pepper for? Where is she going to be?
0:07:35 > 0:07:38Well, Pepper and robots like Pepper are going to be appearing
0:07:38 > 0:07:41in your supermarkets, you know, in the not-too-distant future.
0:07:41 > 0:07:42That is so cool.
0:07:42 > 0:07:45Is it possible to have an actual conversation with her?
0:07:45 > 0:07:47Well, not in the way that we understand conversations.
0:07:47 > 0:07:50So we use words like "wait for a bus".
0:07:50 > 0:07:52We'd know that meant actually wait for a bus,
0:07:52 > 0:07:55but not in the sense of weight as in, you know, carrying a backpack.
0:07:55 > 0:07:56Of course, they sound the same.
0:07:56 > 0:07:58Even though they are spelled differently,
0:07:58 > 0:08:00- mean different things, she would hear it as weight.- Right.
0:08:00 > 0:08:02So she's really good in environments
0:08:02 > 0:08:05where things are really easy to understand, so for example,
0:08:05 > 0:08:07banks, restaurants, supermarkets,
0:08:07 > 0:08:09where you've got a response that you know you're going to get.
0:08:09 > 0:08:12So what if I asked her an opinion on what I should do today?
0:08:12 > 0:08:15- Would she able to answer me that? - Ask.- OK.
0:08:15 > 0:08:18Pepper, what should I have for my lunch today?
0:08:21 > 0:08:23It's my Northern accent, I think, it confuses everybody.
0:08:23 > 0:08:27- Pepper...- Today is Thursday. - It is, yes, live day.
0:08:27 > 0:08:28What should I have for my lunch?
0:08:32 > 0:08:36- You seem sincere.- I am. I genuinely want to know what I should have.
0:08:36 > 0:08:38Do you think I should have the burger or...?
0:08:38 > 0:08:39What's it like to be that way?
0:08:39 > 0:08:42I've always been like this, to be honest. I don't really know.
0:08:42 > 0:08:45You'd have to speak to my mum about that.
0:08:45 > 0:08:47Should I have chips with my dinner?
0:08:47 > 0:08:49Would you like to say more about that?
0:08:50 > 0:08:52No, just I'd like to know about the chips, really.
0:08:53 > 0:08:57- Just so you know, I am genuinely... - Do you have plans for the weekend?
0:08:57 > 0:08:59LAUGHTER
0:08:59 > 0:09:02Well, maybe we should talk about that later, should we?
0:09:02 > 0:09:05I'll be honest, I didn't expect to be going on a date with a robot
0:09:05 > 0:09:07this weekend, but it's turned out quite well for me, thank you.
0:09:07 > 0:09:09Where can we see more from your robots?
0:09:09 > 0:09:13Well, at Heriot-Watt. We'll be at CarFest with some of these robots.
0:09:13 > 0:09:17We'll have petting robots and also you can build your own robot, too.
0:09:17 > 0:09:20Dr Thusha, everybody. What an absolute genius and legend.
0:09:20 > 0:09:22Thank you so much. And if you want to see more from Pepper,
0:09:22 > 0:09:25head online. She's got some opinions about unicorns, apparently.
0:09:25 > 0:09:26Go and check that out.
0:09:26 > 0:09:28Now, from robots of the future
0:09:28 > 0:09:30to robots of the past. It's kind of a robot.
0:09:30 > 0:09:32I think it's one of the coolest things we've ever seen.
0:09:32 > 0:09:34We'll be going back to 1948, have a look.
0:09:34 > 0:09:36All right, then, let's talk.
0:09:36 > 0:09:39Here at Blue Peter, we're famous for having challenges,
0:09:39 > 0:09:43badges and even a steam locomotive.
0:09:43 > 0:09:46Yep, you heard me right.
0:09:46 > 0:09:49The Blue Peter locomotive is the last of its type in the world
0:09:49 > 0:09:51and dates back to the 1940s.
0:09:51 > 0:09:57But the years have taken their toll and many of its parts need some TLC.
0:09:57 > 0:09:59Including repairing its broiler,
0:09:59 > 0:10:01mending its cylinders,
0:10:01 > 0:10:04and giving it a new lick of paint.
0:10:04 > 0:10:07So two years ago, Barney and I helped move Blue Peter
0:10:07 > 0:10:11to its new home in Crewe, where it could be lovingly restored.
0:10:12 > 0:10:15It was a tricky journey which involved being
0:10:15 > 0:10:18transported on a low-loading lorry.
0:10:18 > 0:10:20But there was still time for fun.
0:10:20 > 0:10:22Radzi to Barney.
0:10:22 > 0:10:24We are officially off, I just thought I'd give you a heads up.
0:10:24 > 0:10:27You know there's a locomotive on the back of your lorry?
0:10:27 > 0:10:28- NARRATES:- Hey, that was funny!
0:10:30 > 0:10:33The journey took hours and proved a little bit too much for me.
0:10:33 > 0:10:35If we just take a quick look at Radzi here...
0:10:35 > 0:10:38we'd think he fell asleep about an hour ago.
0:10:38 > 0:10:40And we haven't been able to get a hold of him on this.
0:10:40 > 0:10:42So, Radzi, when you watch this back,
0:10:42 > 0:10:44don't forget, mate, the camera's always on.
0:10:44 > 0:10:46Let's move on!
0:10:46 > 0:10:5090 miles later, the locomotive arrived at its new home
0:10:50 > 0:10:54and all that was left to do was get it into the engine shed.
0:10:54 > 0:10:55And there's one man they called for the job.
0:10:55 > 0:11:00- BOXING BELL RINGS - Here we go.
0:11:00 > 0:11:02HE GRUNTS
0:11:02 > 0:11:03Radzi!
0:11:03 > 0:11:06Peter, I've got my hands full here!
0:11:06 > 0:11:10Radzi! We use this to push it!
0:11:10 > 0:11:13HE GRUNTS
0:11:13 > 0:11:15Well, we'll do it Peter's way.
0:11:19 > 0:11:22Blue Peter locomotive, all clear.
0:11:27 > 0:11:28We are in place.
0:11:30 > 0:11:33With Blue Peter finally in the shed,
0:11:33 > 0:11:36the team could begin the restoration work, but that was going to take
0:11:36 > 0:11:40a very long time, so it's over to you, Linds.
0:11:40 > 0:11:43As you can see, work is well and truly underway,
0:11:43 > 0:11:46and today is a big day for our friend here because she's
0:11:46 > 0:11:49having work done on the parts that actually get her moving -
0:11:49 > 0:11:50the boiler.
0:11:50 > 0:11:53So it's time for Barney and Radzi to stand aside
0:11:53 > 0:11:55and let the big guns take over.
0:11:57 > 0:11:58Talking about me.
0:12:00 > 0:12:02This restoration is massive.
0:12:02 > 0:12:05The locomotive will be completely taken apart,
0:12:05 > 0:12:08repaired and put back together piece by piece.
0:12:08 > 0:12:11Not one nut or bolt will be left untouched.
0:12:12 > 0:12:14We just need the boss to arrive now.
0:12:14 > 0:12:17Who is that?!
0:12:17 > 0:12:19This is Steve. He's in charge.
0:12:19 > 0:12:22If there's a man to get the Blue Peter locomotive
0:12:22 > 0:12:25back up to speed, it's him.
0:12:26 > 0:12:27So, Steve, it's good to be here.
0:12:27 > 0:12:29What has been going on with our locomotive?
0:12:29 > 0:12:31It's a long, slow process.
0:12:31 > 0:12:36It's taken a lot of refurbishment to all the individual components.
0:12:36 > 0:12:38And what are we going to be doing today? How can I get involved?
0:12:38 > 0:12:41Well, today, we're going to be making an important
0:12:41 > 0:12:44piece of the boiler, which is the copper firebox.
0:12:44 > 0:12:46If only we had a finished version so we could make it really clear
0:12:46 > 0:12:49- to the viewers what you mean by that.- Follow me.
0:12:49 > 0:12:50What a guy!
0:12:54 > 0:12:56Steve, what exactly have we got here?
0:12:56 > 0:13:01- What we've got here is a copper fire box. Currently it's upside down.- OK.
0:13:01 > 0:13:06It would normally be the other way up and inside you'd have the coal.
0:13:06 > 0:13:09The coal heats up. On the outside there's water.
0:13:09 > 0:13:12- It turns it to steam and that's what makes the steam locomotive go.- Ah!
0:13:12 > 0:13:16Normally, that fire box is hidden inside the casing
0:13:16 > 0:13:18like this locomotive here.
0:13:18 > 0:13:20Oh, so that's kind of the skeleton of the boiler
0:13:20 > 0:13:23- that will be inside the locomotive? - Correct.- I've got it.
0:13:23 > 0:13:25How exactly am I going to be helping today?
0:13:25 > 0:13:28- You're going to making one of these plates.- Really?- Yes.
0:13:28 > 0:13:32- Do you trust me? - Yes.- Hesitation!
0:13:32 > 0:13:34Well, if I'm going to work on the boiler
0:13:34 > 0:13:37I'd best get my boiler suit on.
0:13:37 > 0:13:39Get it? No? Never mind.
0:13:39 > 0:13:41Time to get this loco back on track.
0:13:41 > 0:13:45I need a serious bit of kit. Something that can bend metal.
0:13:45 > 0:13:48I need a massive hammer!
0:13:50 > 0:13:52- Heavy, isn't it?- Yeah.
0:13:52 > 0:13:57My job is to bash this copper plate into shape around the mould below.
0:13:57 > 0:13:59Hold it there. Don't go...
0:14:00 > 0:14:02OK.
0:14:02 > 0:14:05- Let it bounce, yeah? Don't go mad. Don't hurt yourself.- Fun!
0:14:05 > 0:14:08- There you go.- GRRR!
0:14:08 > 0:14:10- That's it. - Quite good for getting anger out.
0:14:10 > 0:14:12After a quick practice,
0:14:12 > 0:14:15it's time to heat up the copper using blowtorches.
0:14:15 > 0:14:17There we go.
0:14:17 > 0:14:20When the metal is literally red-hot,
0:14:20 > 0:14:22it's soft enough to mould into shape.
0:14:22 > 0:14:25That's where I come in. Do not try this at home.
0:14:25 > 0:14:28Yeah? Oh, I'm scared.
0:14:30 > 0:14:33It might look like fun, but it's vital we get this right.
0:14:33 > 0:14:35This is the actual copper plate that will
0:14:35 > 0:14:38sit in the boiler for years to come.
0:14:42 > 0:14:44After some impressive hammering...
0:14:44 > 0:14:46Got the job!
0:14:46 > 0:14:49..the guys let me loose with the blowtorch.
0:14:49 > 0:14:51What a day!
0:14:53 > 0:14:56And then it's over to the team to finish off the moulding.
0:14:58 > 0:15:01Now I can see why restoring this locomotive is literally going
0:15:01 > 0:15:03to take years.
0:15:03 > 0:15:05Steve, that was a job well done.
0:15:05 > 0:15:08Yeah, about halfway through the repair but still a long way to go.
0:15:08 > 0:15:13Well, I cannot wait until the Blue Peter locomotive is back on track.
0:15:13 > 0:15:16You're sending out all the right signals, Steve.
0:15:16 > 0:15:19Hope you don't run out of steam.
0:15:23 > 0:15:24So there we have it.
0:15:24 > 0:15:27It's going to be a while yet until the Blue Peter locomotive is
0:15:27 > 0:15:31back up and running in all her glory and I can't wait
0:15:31 > 0:15:33and it's great to know she's got such a fab team
0:15:33 > 0:15:36working really hard on her, especially Steve.
0:15:36 > 0:15:38What a guy!
0:15:40 > 0:15:41Amazing.
0:15:41 > 0:15:43Now it's time to look at this week's Big Badge Wall, which is
0:15:43 > 0:15:47looking beautiful as ever covered in all your fantastic post
0:15:47 > 0:15:50and everyone who sent something in has earned a badge, of course, so
0:15:50 > 0:15:51they're one step closer to completing

0:16:00 > 0:16:03She has earned a green badge by designing the MV Robot.
0:16:03 > 0:16:05It turns food waste into compost
0:16:05 > 0:16:08and is powered by solar panels on its head.
0:16:08 > 0:16:09I would love an upgrade like that.
0:16:09 > 0:16:11You'd look amazing with an upgrade like that.
0:16:11 > 0:16:13- It's good, isn't it? - Wow, she's great.
0:16:13 > 0:16:15I like Pepper at the Big Badge Wall. It's good.
0:16:15 > 0:16:18Something else that's great is sharks. It's officially trending.
0:16:18 > 0:16:19Have a look at the wall there.
0:16:19 > 0:16:23So many sharks everywhere and Polly and Hope have recycled
0:16:23 > 0:16:26a bit of polystyrene here and made two quite large sharks
0:16:26 > 0:16:28and I'm there with my little flippers.
0:16:28 > 0:16:30They have the biggest teeth ever. You guys are amazing.

0:18:02 > 0:18:05Now, I promised you sharks and sharks you are going to get.
0:18:05 > 0:18:09Pepper, would you ever go diving with sharks?
0:18:09 > 0:18:12That is a silly question, Lindsey. I don't do water. I'm a robot.
0:18:12 > 0:18:16- Yeah, stupid.- She's sassy, isn't she? Fair enough. Here it is.
0:18:16 > 0:18:21In my time on Blue Peter I've tackled some epic challenges.
0:18:21 > 0:18:23DRAMATIC MUSIC PLAYS
0:18:23 > 0:18:27I've pushed myself to the limit physically and mentally.
0:18:27 > 0:18:29From the highest highs
0:18:29 > 0:18:32to the lowest lows.
0:18:32 > 0:18:36But there's always been one thing that I said I would never ever do.
0:18:38 > 0:18:42I'm going to try and conquer my biggest fear - sharks!
0:18:47 > 0:18:49I've been asked to help clean the shark tanks
0:18:49 > 0:18:52at the Blue Planet Aquarium and that's going to involve
0:18:52 > 0:18:57getting IN the water with the thing I'm most scared of.
0:18:57 > 0:19:00So ever since I can remember I have been terrified of big
0:19:00 > 0:19:02fish like sharks and I know for a lot of people
0:19:02 > 0:19:04this would be quite a fun,
0:19:04 > 0:19:07easy challenge and something they'd look forward to, but, for me,
0:19:07 > 0:19:09this is my worst nightmare.
0:19:11 > 0:19:14But to beat my fear, first I need to understand it,
0:19:14 > 0:19:18so I've come to meet fear expert, Dr Warren Mansell.
0:19:18 > 0:19:20So I understand you're coming to see me
0:19:20 > 0:19:23- to talk about your fear of sharks? - Yes.
0:19:23 > 0:19:26My biggest fear of sharks is the idea of seeing a shark
0:19:26 > 0:19:30coming at my face, like swimming at me.
0:19:30 > 0:19:32That gives me anxiety.
0:19:32 > 0:19:36Would you be able to look at some pictures of sharks now?
0:19:37 > 0:19:40Until now, I've found it hard to even look at sharks,
0:19:40 > 0:19:43so Warren shows me pictures of them to help me get used to it.
0:19:43 > 0:19:46- Go on, just speak your mind. - That is really scary.
0:19:46 > 0:19:49That's like a sea dinosaur.
0:19:49 > 0:19:54For me, that was really hard, but the work doesn't end there.
0:19:54 > 0:19:57I've never dived before so I need a scuba lesson.
0:19:57 > 0:20:00Sophie is one of the chief divers at the aquarium
0:20:00 > 0:20:04and she'll be with me in the water when I take on my challenge.
0:20:04 > 0:20:07Ooh! Could have warmed it!
0:20:08 > 0:20:11She wants me to feel comfortable with the equipment
0:20:11 > 0:20:14and the hand signals we'll be using under water.
0:20:15 > 0:20:18That way I can just concentrate on facing my fear.
0:20:20 > 0:20:23- Sharks next?- No.
0:20:23 > 0:20:26No, I'm very happy in this tiny little salty pool.
0:20:27 > 0:20:29Challenge over.
0:20:31 > 0:20:35Yes, sadly not. This challenge is only just beginning.
0:20:35 > 0:20:40It's the morning of my dive and I am so tense.
0:20:40 > 0:20:44It's time for me to meet the guys I'll be sharing a tank with.
0:20:44 > 0:20:48OK, this is my idea of a nightmare.
0:20:48 > 0:20:52There's a shark looking directly at me.
0:20:52 > 0:20:53I honestly thought these sharks
0:20:53 > 0:20:55would just be in the distance somewhere
0:20:55 > 0:21:01doing their thing and they are right up in my face looking at me.
0:21:01 > 0:21:04I really am going to be amongst them.
0:21:05 > 0:21:08Oh, my gosh, it's turning to look at me!
0:21:11 > 0:21:13I'm not going to look at it.
0:21:15 > 0:21:19For most people, looking at a shark in a tank is a fun day out,
0:21:19 > 0:21:22but, for me, it's my worst nightmare.
0:21:22 > 0:21:26Oh, no, sorry, my WORST nightmare would be swimming with them.
0:21:29 > 0:21:33As I get ready, all my instincts are saying, "Do not do this, Lindsey!"
0:21:33 > 0:21:37Thankfully, Dr Warren is here to help calm my nerves.
0:21:37 > 0:21:40Looking out over the tank, what are your thoughts?
0:21:40 > 0:21:44For me, the hardest part is going to be the moment
0:21:44 > 0:21:48I get in that water and see a shark for the first time.
0:21:48 > 0:21:51I don't know if I can face a shark, as it were.
0:21:51 > 0:21:55Anything else that's going to feel comforting when you're in there?
0:21:55 > 0:21:58- No, I've just got to do it now, haven't I?- I think that's right.
0:21:58 > 0:22:01- Thank you. I'll see you on the other side.- OK.
0:22:01 > 0:22:03The moment has arrived.
0:22:03 > 0:22:06I'm genuinely terrified.
0:22:06 > 0:22:13I'm shaking. I'm nervous. The real fear is a shark coming at me head on
0:22:13 > 0:22:16and I think that's definitely going to happen today.
0:22:18 > 0:22:21Even with Sophie and the rest of the team here to guide me,
0:22:21 > 0:22:24the last thing I want to do is get in this water.
0:22:30 > 0:22:32But I've got a job to do. Come on, Linds.
0:22:32 > 0:22:34You can do this. Just breathe.
0:22:40 > 0:22:42Sophie wants me to stay calm
0:22:42 > 0:22:45and I'm trying to remember the advice I was given by Dr Warren.
0:22:45 > 0:22:48But all I can think about is where the sharks are
0:22:48 > 0:22:50and it doesn't take long to find out.
0:22:56 > 0:23:00Seeing a shark up close like this is so overwhelming.
0:23:00 > 0:23:03They feel huge and I feel terrified.
0:23:05 > 0:23:08The sharks are drawn to us being in the tank
0:23:08 > 0:23:10and suddenly we're surrounded.
0:23:17 > 0:23:21All along, my biggest fear has been a shark swimming directly towards me
0:23:21 > 0:23:23and then this happens.
0:23:29 > 0:23:32My heart is pounding.
0:23:38 > 0:23:43My worst nightmare just swam centimetres from my face
0:23:43 > 0:23:46and then it dawns on me - I'm fine.
0:23:46 > 0:23:49This is actually quite fun!
0:23:54 > 0:23:57These are beautiful creatures but I can't just admire them.
0:23:57 > 0:23:59I've got a job to do.
0:24:18 > 0:24:21Oh, my goodness! Oh, my goodness! Oh, my goodness!
0:24:28 > 0:24:31This challenge has been so hard for me
0:24:31 > 0:24:34and I'm so proud I've overcome my biggest fear.
0:24:36 > 0:24:39I just hope I've inspired you guys to do the same.
0:24:39 > 0:24:42I actually can't believe I've done that.
0:24:42 > 0:24:47I feel quite emotional, because I was really, really scared.
0:24:47 > 0:24:49I don't know why I'm crying.
0:24:49 > 0:24:52I was really, really scared to go down and do that today and,
0:24:52 > 0:24:55actually, the imagination of doing it wasn't
0:24:55 > 0:24:59half as bad as going down and giving it a try.
0:25:00 > 0:25:03I'd go as far as saying that I actually quite enjoyed it.
0:25:03 > 0:25:07- Would you do it again, though? - No, I wouldn't do it again.
0:25:07 > 0:25:09Oh, do you know what, I am still
0:25:09 > 0:25:10a bit frightened but I'm glad I did it.
0:25:10 > 0:25:11All for the badge.
0:25:11 > 0:25:14All for the badge, Linds, and actually some people that have
0:25:14 > 0:25:16earned their silver badges, you're going to enjoy this.
0:25:16 > 0:25:18Take a look.

0:25:49 > 0:25:53I'm sword fighting in my chainmail with none other than

0:26:08 > 0:26:12There's the Falkirk Wheel which Lindsey visited in her barge boat.
0:26:12 > 0:26:15There's a jellyfish we had on the show which I put my hand in,
0:26:15 > 0:26:17and you've even included Spot Shelley.
0:26:17 > 0:26:19Not the actual Spot Shelley though, but well done.
0:26:19 > 0:26:22You've got yourself a silver badge.
0:26:22 > 0:26:25So well done to all of you. Give yourselves a round of applause.
