7:30:25 > 7:30:27The 2014 Winter Olympics kicks off tomorrow
7:30:27 > 7:30:31so today we're celebrating all things sporty and wintry.
7:30:31 > 7:30:33You'll find out if I've got what it takes to control
7:30:33 > 7:30:34a beast of a snow machine.
7:30:34 > 7:30:36We'll show you how to make these medals,
7:30:36 > 7:30:39which are so good, you're going to want to eat them.
7:30:39 > 7:30:41Would you through yourself headfirst down an icy chute
7:30:41 > 7:30:44on a tray at 60mph?
7:30:44 > 7:30:45He did. Find out why.
7:30:45 > 7:30:47It's coming up live on today's Blue Peter.
7:30:47 > 7:30:49MUSIC: "Blue Peter Theme"
7:31:07 > 7:31:10Yes, the ship has officially set sail. This is a live show.
7:31:10 > 7:31:12Hi, how are you? Hello you two, how are you doing?
7:31:12 > 7:31:15- Who are you talking to, Barney? - Did I not tell you?- No.
7:31:15 > 7:31:17- I can see into people's homes. - In there?
7:31:17 > 7:31:20- Just by looking through the TV. - Oh, right. Hi!
7:31:20 > 7:31:23What about the girl having her tea over there as well?
7:31:23 > 7:31:25- How are you?- Looks yummy.
7:31:25 > 7:31:28We are really excited in the Blue Peter studio because, of course,
7:31:28 > 7:31:30it is the Winter Olympics,
7:31:30 > 7:31:32so we're going to be linking up with
7:31:32 > 7:31:35Sochi in Russia to find out just how Team GB are doing
7:31:35 > 7:31:39ahead of the Winter Olympics tomorrow.
7:31:39 > 7:31:41We will speak to my good friend Tim Warwood.
7:31:41 > 7:31:44He's not just a man famous for CBBC presenting.
7:31:44 > 7:31:48No, he is a former British snowboard champion. He is so talented.
7:31:48 > 7:31:50He'll join us from the slopes
7:31:50 > 7:31:52of a brand-new winter sport called snowboard, no...
7:31:52 > 7:31:54snowboard slopestyle.
7:31:54 > 7:31:57It's that new, we don't even know it ourselves!
7:31:57 > 7:31:58The reason we've picked up on this is,
7:31:58 > 7:32:00not only is it difficult to say,
7:32:00 > 7:32:02it's also a great idea to get you involved
7:32:02 > 7:32:04and design your own brand-new Winter Olympics sport.
7:32:04 > 7:32:08What would it be? I'm thinking something like skiing and dancing.
7:32:08 > 7:32:12"Scancing". It goes a little bit like this.
7:32:12 > 7:32:17# Every day I'm shuffling. #
7:32:17 > 7:32:19That's how cool I am.
7:32:19 > 7:32:20I would probably choose
7:32:20 > 7:32:23something like whitewater rafting over a frozen river.
7:32:23 > 7:32:26- Ridiculous speed. - Dangerous as well.
7:32:26 > 7:32:28I would go for rubber ring ice jumping
7:32:28 > 7:32:30because you sit in a rubber ring
7:32:30 > 7:32:32and see how far you can glide and jump on the ice.
7:32:32 > 7:32:35Everything is difficult to say on today's show, have you noticed?
7:32:35 > 7:32:37- It's because we are cold. - What would you invent?
7:32:37 > 7:32:40A brand-new Winter Olympic sport.
7:32:40 > 7:32:41Please get in touch.
7:32:41 > 7:32:43We will read your suggestions out
7:32:43 > 7:32:45later in the show.
7:32:45 > 7:32:46If Lindsey's idea
7:32:46 > 7:32:47was ever to come into fruition,
7:32:47 > 7:32:51you'd need a really cool snow park in which to compete.
7:32:51 > 7:32:55I've been lucky enough to go to such a place. Location, Austria.
7:32:55 > 7:32:59The Stubai Glacier - some of Team GB even train there
7:32:59 > 7:33:02and the slopes and jumps are pristine.
7:33:02 > 7:33:07In order to get that, you will need a monster snow machine.
7:33:10 > 7:33:12Welcome to the top of the Stubai Flacier,
7:33:12 > 7:33:163,210 metres above sea level.
7:33:16 > 7:33:20Every year, millions of people head to snow parks,
7:33:20 > 7:33:24like the one on top of this glacier, to have some wintry fun.
7:33:25 > 7:33:29But behind every good snow park lies an army of these mighty machines.
7:33:29 > 7:33:36They're called piste bashers. They are seriously powerful pieces of kit.
7:33:36 > 7:33:37Their job is to help level snow
7:33:37 > 7:33:42and create smooth surfaces for skiing and snowboarding.
7:33:44 > 7:33:50But piste bashers also have another job, to create ski jumps like this!
7:33:56 > 7:33:57I have been so lucky
7:33:57 > 7:34:01because we have been given our own corner of the piste
7:34:01 > 7:34:07and they are letting me make my own baby jump. Wish me luck!
7:34:07 > 7:34:11This is by far the biggest machine I have ever been in charge of
7:34:11 > 7:34:13and that means I need an expert co-driver.
7:34:13 > 7:34:15Mattias, what do I need to do?
7:34:17 > 7:34:22- You need this to stick and you can turn around here.- OK.
7:34:22 > 7:34:25A little bit more gas.
7:34:26 > 7:34:29Yeah, fine.
7:34:29 > 7:34:31We're indestructible!
7:34:34 > 7:34:37Now, it's all very well driving around in circles,
7:34:37 > 7:34:40but this isn't making a snow jump, so what next?
7:34:40 > 7:34:44Now you can take it this way.
7:34:44 > 7:34:49You can pull it down and you can take it slowly with you.
7:34:49 > 7:34:52OK, we have lowered the snow.
7:34:55 > 7:34:56- Here we go!- Very good!
7:34:58 > 7:35:01This piste basher really is a beast.
7:35:01 > 7:35:04It has the power of 450 horses
7:35:04 > 7:35:07and weighs the same as a double-decker bus.
7:35:07 > 7:35:12It can deal with almost any condition the mountain can throw at it.
7:35:12 > 7:35:14What's become really apparent
7:35:14 > 7:35:17is that having only driven it for a little bit
7:35:17 > 7:35:19and tried to lower the spade,
7:35:19 > 7:35:22Mattias is constantly adjusting the lever because, actually,
7:35:22 > 7:35:27the spade does not go down level, you can slightly tilt it,
7:35:27 > 7:35:30and that's because obviously the mountain is not completely flat,
7:35:30 > 7:35:32is not perfectly straight.
7:35:32 > 7:35:33The skill involved in this,
7:35:33 > 7:35:36it's not just a case of pushing a load of snow,
7:35:36 > 7:35:39there are so many minor adjustments that he is making.
7:35:39 > 7:35:40I've got a lot to learn.
7:35:41 > 7:35:45Ski jumps are the big thing in winter sports at the moment.
7:35:45 > 7:35:48In fact, at the Sochi Winter Olympics, athletes will,
7:35:48 > 7:35:54for the very first time, compete in a sport called slopestyle.
7:35:54 > 7:36:02# Fly high, let me go. #
7:36:02 > 7:36:05Slopestyle sees competitors tackle jumps and obstacles like these,
7:36:05 > 7:36:10to attempt the most difficult tricks and moves possible.
7:36:14 > 7:36:18Great Britain has genuine medal hopes in the sport,
7:36:18 > 7:36:21through Jenny Jones in the women's competition
7:36:21 > 7:36:25and James Woods in the men's.
7:36:25 > 7:36:27Wow! When else would I get to drive a snow basher?
7:36:27 > 7:36:32Check out our motorway of snow and we have made this. Look at it!
7:36:32 > 7:36:35It's a mountain of snow!
7:36:35 > 7:36:37That's only part of the process.
7:36:37 > 7:36:40Creating the perfect jump now needs some expert crafting
7:36:40 > 7:36:45and that's where snow shapers Manuel and Bernie come in.
7:36:46 > 7:36:50Fantastic job, what can I do to help with the finishing touches?
7:36:50 > 7:36:57You can get a shovel. Try to make the snow here in front compact.
7:36:57 > 7:37:00That is the point where the rider is going to jump over.
7:37:00 > 7:37:05Shapers like Bernie and Manuel are in high demand.
7:37:05 > 7:37:08During the ski season, they will tour the ski parks of the world,
7:37:08 > 7:37:12building top-class jumps like these.
7:37:14 > 7:37:17The Sochi Winter Olympics are just around the corner.
7:37:17 > 7:37:20How much detail would go into building those jumps?
7:37:20 > 7:37:25They need to be perfect. It is a world jumping competition,
7:37:25 > 7:37:29a really important competition. Everything has to be perfect.
7:37:29 > 7:37:33Lots of sculpting later and our mini jump is about there.
7:37:33 > 7:37:37We finished the ramp and all we need is somebody to try it.
7:37:37 > 7:37:39I can't ski.
7:37:39 > 7:37:42But I know someone that can.
7:37:43 > 7:37:46Paddy Graham, nicknamed "Legs of Steel",
7:37:46 > 7:37:49is one of Britain's top three skiers.
7:37:51 > 7:37:54He's just the man to try out my jump.
7:37:57 > 7:38:01Yes, how cool is that!
7:38:03 > 7:38:05Not a bad day at the office!
7:38:07 > 7:38:12- Radzi, that was a mammoth machine. - It was like a tank on snow.
7:38:12 > 7:38:14- It is unreal. What a day! - I don't know how you did that.
7:38:14 > 7:38:18Now, something we are really excited about in the Blue Peter studio.
7:38:18 > 7:38:20Of course, the start of the Winter Olympics tomorrow
7:38:20 > 7:38:22in the Russian city of Sochi.
7:38:22 > 7:38:25We've even got a map to show you because Russia is a huge country
7:38:25 > 7:38:29and if you look down at the bottom left, you can just see Sochi.
7:38:29 > 7:38:33We are now going to speak to a man who is a CBBC Wild presenter.
7:38:33 > 7:38:37This man is so awesome, he has "woo" in his name.
7:38:37 > 7:38:39Tim Warwood, how are you, sir?
7:38:41 > 7:38:45I am absolutely amazing. Look at this place!
7:38:45 > 7:38:48It has been incredible so far.
7:38:48 > 7:38:51The sun is shining but don't let that lie to you
7:38:51 > 7:38:53because it is actually freezing cold here.
7:38:53 > 7:38:56We are amped here, you must be excited off the charts.
7:38:56 > 7:38:59- What are you getting up to? - Would you believe it?
7:38:59 > 7:39:01I used to be a professional snowboarder but now,
7:39:01 > 7:39:03because I'm not very good at snowboarding any more,
7:39:03 > 7:39:06I'm behind the microphone and I'm doing the commentary
7:39:06 > 7:39:10for BBC Sport for the snowboarding and freestyle skiing.
7:39:10 > 7:39:12You can probably see behind me here,
7:39:12 > 7:39:15practice is happening as we speak, you can see the riders coming over.
7:39:15 > 7:39:17It's ladies practice. And you can see...
7:39:17 > 7:39:20And, oh, what a beautiful frontside 360 there.
7:39:20 > 7:39:24I'm not quite sure who it is but that is a long way away.
7:39:24 > 7:39:27There, into a nice backside 360.
7:39:27 > 7:39:30So, women's practice happening right here.
7:39:30 > 7:39:32Never mind the qualifications
7:39:32 > 7:39:36because Jamie Nicholls has already made it into the final,
7:39:36 > 7:39:37so how good is that?
7:39:37 > 7:39:38It was the men's earlier on
7:39:38 > 7:39:40and Jamie made it straight through to the finals.
7:39:40 > 7:39:43Billy Morgan put down a really good show for the men's
7:39:43 > 7:39:46so Team GB, at the moment, doing very well indeed.
7:39:46 > 7:39:49We're feeling proud in the studio here.
7:39:49 > 7:39:52That's a new sport called slopestyle so can you tell us
7:39:52 > 7:39:53a little bit about that, Tim.
7:39:55 > 7:39:57Slopestyle is a brand-new sport
7:39:57 > 7:40:00and it's essentially a skate park but on a hill.
7:40:00 > 7:40:03So at the top of the course, you've got three rail sections.
7:40:03 > 7:40:05And then after the three rail sections,
7:40:05 > 7:40:07you've got these three big jumps.
7:40:07 > 7:40:08And the riders come down
7:40:08 > 7:40:10and they do loads of tricks on the boxes and the rails,
7:40:10 > 7:40:13and then they do three big tricks over the jumps
7:40:13 > 7:40:16and get some, pretty much, sweet air, to be honest.
7:40:16 > 7:40:18Jenny Jones has been doing really well for the girls.
7:40:18 > 7:40:21She's a snowboarder that thrives well under these conditions,
7:40:21 > 7:40:22on these big jumps.
7:40:22 > 7:40:24And she did really well earlier on, in her heat.
7:40:24 > 7:40:27And actually skiing slopestyle is also in the Olympics
7:40:27 > 7:40:29and we've got one of the favourites for the men,
7:40:29 > 7:40:30we've got Mr James Woods.
7:40:30 > 7:40:33And he is going to be throwing down on that course.
7:40:33 > 7:40:35Again, another rider that loves these big conditions.
7:40:35 > 7:40:37So expect a lot from Woodsy.
7:40:37 > 7:40:39Tim, I didn't know a lot about it before.
7:40:39 > 7:40:42You've convinced me. I'm going to be tuning in, my friend.
7:40:42 > 7:40:45Now, there are other sports as well where Britain have medal hopes,
7:40:45 > 7:40:47like Elise Christie in the speed skating.
7:40:47 > 7:40:49How much of a chance have people like her got?
7:40:51 > 7:40:54Oh, absolutely. I mean, she won a bronze medal not too long ago.
7:40:54 > 7:40:57Team GB are positively frothing at her prospects.
7:40:57 > 7:41:00That's actually going to be happening down in the ice skating arena,
7:41:00 > 7:41:04which is down the coast there, Adler...or Sochi.
7:41:04 > 7:41:05But we're up here in the mountains.
7:41:05 > 7:41:07And this is the mountain arena up here.
7:41:07 > 7:41:09You can see the freestyle section.
7:41:09 > 7:41:11But as you look across the mountains,
7:41:11 > 7:41:13you can see where the Boardercross course is going to be.
7:41:13 > 7:41:15Then we've got the moguls at the top.
7:41:15 > 7:41:18And then you might just be able to make out the top of the halfpipe.
7:41:18 > 7:41:22And then sprawled, positively looming over the mountain there
7:41:22 > 7:41:25is the down hill course for the alpine skiing.
7:41:25 > 7:41:27And let me tell you something, if, well,
7:41:27 > 7:41:31the steepness is anything to go by, it's going to be pretty crazy indeed.
7:41:31 > 7:41:34Tim, thank you so much for joining us in the studio.
7:41:34 > 7:41:37I hope you have the absolute time of your life out there.
7:41:37 > 7:41:40You deserve it. It's been an absolute pleasure.
7:41:40 > 7:41:42Well, thank you very much. It's been a pleasure.
7:41:42 > 7:41:45Thanks for having me on. Radzi, Lindsey, you guys take care.
7:41:45 > 7:41:47And enjoy the Winter Olympics. Make sure you tune in.
7:41:47 > 7:41:51- Will do. Bye-bye, Tim.- Bye-bye! We definitely will be tuning in.
7:41:51 > 7:41:53That looks so exciting and we're very jealous.
7:41:53 > 7:41:56And remember, if you head to our website...
7:41:56 > 7:41:59you can check out some exclusive interviews we've got
7:41:59 > 7:42:02with Billy Morgan and Katie Summerhayes.
7:42:02 > 7:42:05And we even got to see Billy Morgan in action. Have a look at this.
7:42:05 > 7:42:10MUSIC: "Unbelievable" by EMF
7:42:10 > 7:42:12My question is from navybluetinypuffin,
7:42:12 > 7:42:16"What goes through your mind when you go over the big jumps and ramps?
7:42:16 > 7:42:17"It must be scary."
7:42:17 > 7:42:19Yeah, it is quite scary, for sure.
7:42:19 > 7:42:20You kind of get used to it,
7:42:20 > 7:42:22the more and more snowboarding you're doing.
7:42:22 > 7:42:24You start off on the small ones and move up to the big ones.
7:42:24 > 7:42:27It's all fun in the end, really.
7:42:27 > 7:42:29And there is plenty more where that came from.
7:42:29 > 7:42:32So make sure you head to the website after the show and check it out.
7:42:32 > 7:42:33Over to you, Radzi.
7:42:33 > 7:42:36Lindsey, I am so excited!
7:42:36 > 7:42:37Good luck to all of our hopefuls.
7:42:37 > 7:42:40Now, one Olympic sport which we haven't spoken about
7:42:40 > 7:42:42is actually quite dear to my heart.
7:42:42 > 7:42:44It involves this.
7:42:44 > 7:42:46Now, this is not what you might think it is.
7:42:46 > 7:42:48It's not a sledge you'd slide down a snowy hill.
7:42:48 > 7:42:51In fact, it's a sledge that you lie on
7:42:51 > 7:42:54and you slide headfirst down an icy track
7:42:54 > 7:42:56at speeds of well over 60mph.
7:42:56 > 7:42:58It feels the most extreme water slide
7:42:58 > 7:43:00you've ever been on, in your life.
7:43:00 > 7:43:02It's called skeleton bobsleigh
7:43:02 > 7:43:03and I love it.
7:43:05 > 7:43:09Oh, my goodness! My heart is absolutely pounding.
7:43:09 > 7:43:11Ah...
7:43:11 > 7:43:14And it's this that's got my blood pumping.
7:43:14 > 7:43:18I've just hurtled headfirst down an icy skeleton bob track.
7:43:19 > 7:43:24Skeleton is one of the fastest and most exciting sports
7:43:24 > 7:43:26in the Winter Olympics.
7:43:26 > 7:43:29And when I was a student, I had ambitions of becoming a top slider.
7:43:29 > 7:43:33But I haven't been near a track for three years.
7:43:33 > 7:43:36So to help me realise my dream of sliding on ice,
7:43:36 > 7:43:41World Champion Shelley Rudman is taking me back to basics.
7:43:41 > 7:43:43Let me just show you. If you're going to lift your head up,
7:43:43 > 7:43:45it'd be like that. Feet up a bit higher.
7:43:45 > 7:43:47- Hold on really tight.- OK. - It's a bit wet today
7:43:47 > 7:43:50- so it might be a bit slippy as well. - OK.
7:43:53 > 7:43:55I'm definitely a bit rusty
7:43:55 > 7:43:58but I've still got some of the noisiest skeleton skills!
7:43:58 > 7:44:00- HE WAILS - After my training,
7:44:00 > 7:44:02I asked Shelley for some top tips.
7:44:02 > 7:44:05For anyone who doesn't know what skeleton is, what exactly is it?
7:44:05 > 7:44:10Skeleton bobsleigh is where you race headfirst, on your front,
7:44:10 > 7:44:12on a sled, down ice chutes.
7:44:12 > 7:44:16- And how fast do you go? - You can go up to about 85mph.
7:44:18 > 7:44:21There aren't any brakes, so you can't stop.
7:44:21 > 7:44:23You could drag your feet to slow you down
7:44:23 > 7:44:24but that's not advisable.
7:44:24 > 7:44:28And the curves coming up are coming at you quite quickly.
7:44:28 > 7:44:31And you start to almost navigate them instinctively.
7:44:31 > 7:44:34The first time is really unusual, though. So it's...
7:44:34 > 7:44:38It's very breathtaking and it's a unique experience.
7:44:38 > 7:44:43'4.99! That's a tremendous start from Shelley Rudman.'
7:44:43 > 7:44:46What do you think it takes to be world-class at skeleton?
7:44:46 > 7:44:48I think you have to have a really good instinct.
7:44:48 > 7:44:50You need really good spatial awareness.
7:44:50 > 7:44:53You need to be quite strong, quick, powerful.
7:44:53 > 7:44:55And all of those components can make you
7:44:55 > 7:44:57the start of a good athlete.
7:44:57 > 7:45:00And if you are, say, ten years old perhaps, at home, thinking,
7:45:00 > 7:45:01"Skeleton looks brilliant!"
7:45:01 > 7:45:04Perhaps you see it at the Olympics and want to get involved,
7:45:04 > 7:45:05what advice would you have?
7:45:05 > 7:45:07Try lots of different sport.
7:45:07 > 7:45:10So speed sports, maybe balance sports,
7:45:10 > 7:45:12and try and build up their abilities that way.
7:45:12 > 7:45:14So lots of transferrable skills from other sports
7:45:14 > 7:45:16- that could in the future help you with skeleton?- Exactly, yeah.
7:45:16 > 7:45:19'This is going to be good from Shelley Rudman.
7:45:19 > 7:45:20'She will go into the lead, surely.
7:45:20 > 7:45:23'Big hit there but it doesn't matter,
7:45:23 > 7:45:24'she's in first place.'
7:45:24 > 7:45:26- Shelley, thanks so much for joining us.- Thank you.
7:45:26 > 7:45:29- And good luck for the rest of the season.- Thank you.
7:45:29 > 7:45:31But my challenge isn't to TALK about skeleton.
7:45:31 > 7:45:33So I'm heading to Igls Sliding Centre
7:45:33 > 7:45:35in Innsbruck, Austria,
7:45:35 > 7:45:38to link up with Team GB's development squad
7:45:38 > 7:45:41and make a high-speed run down the world-famous track.
7:45:43 > 7:45:46But before I'm allowed to slide, skeleton ice coach Mark Wood
7:45:46 > 7:45:50wants me to take in each bend and bump of the track
7:45:50 > 7:45:52and some important safety advice.
7:45:52 > 7:45:55You'll feel these little waves, nothing to worry about.
7:45:57 > 7:45:58You're going to feel it want to go.
7:45:58 > 7:46:02- That's OK, don't worry about it.- OK. - It's fine.
7:46:02 > 7:46:04Just making you aware of what could possibly go wrong.
7:46:04 > 7:46:06- There's a lot could possibly go right, as well.- Yeah,
7:46:06 > 7:46:08I appreciate that.
7:46:08 > 7:46:10One of Mark's coaching techniques
7:46:10 > 7:46:13is to encourage sliders to visualise the course in their minds,
7:46:13 > 7:46:16helping commit every twist and turn to memory.
7:46:17 > 7:46:19Big corner two...
7:46:19 > 7:46:23down, almost immediately into three.
7:46:23 > 7:46:26- Feel the first pressure, shoulder down.- Yeah.
7:46:26 > 7:46:28- Release as the shade comes off. - Yeah.
7:46:28 > 7:46:31Squeeze this pressure and then just let it come out.
7:46:31 > 7:46:33This is the major area.
7:46:33 > 7:46:38The key to get through.. down the track is right here.
7:46:38 > 7:46:39If I'm going to come off my sled,
7:46:39 > 7:46:41it'll probably happen here -
7:46:41 > 7:46:43corner nine.
7:46:44 > 7:46:47You've got to try and keep hold of the sled.
7:46:47 > 7:46:51If you lose the sled, push it away from you and then keep tight in.
7:46:51 > 7:46:53The reason we're pushing the sled away from us
7:46:53 > 7:46:55is so that it's accelerating and we're slowing down.
7:46:55 > 7:46:59If you don't get anything else on this apart from this,
7:46:59 > 7:47:03- that's all I'm really worried about, is this part.- OK.- All right?
7:47:04 > 7:47:05He's going to be nervous.
7:47:05 > 7:47:08I mean, he hasn't been on a sled for quite a while, right,
7:47:08 > 7:47:11and it's all going to be brand-new to him again.
7:47:11 > 7:47:12And you've got to imagine -
7:47:12 > 7:47:16you're two inches off the ice, your face is really, really close
7:47:16 > 7:47:19and you're going to be doing about 60mph.
7:47:19 > 7:47:20We can't guarantee anything.
7:47:20 > 7:47:22Once he's gone, he's on his own.
7:47:22 > 7:47:25And if anything goes wrong, he's got to get out of it himself.
7:47:25 > 7:47:28Not many people choose to take up this sport.
7:47:28 > 7:47:31It's fast, furious and dangerous,
7:47:31 > 7:47:34and that's exactly why it appealed to me.
7:47:34 > 7:47:37But at this moment in time, I'm not so sure.
7:47:39 > 7:47:42There's a huge part of me that's actually scared.
7:47:42 > 7:47:45I haven't done this for a very, very long time
7:47:45 > 7:47:49and just crossing that finish line is going to be an exhilaration
7:47:49 > 7:47:51that's going to be off the charts.
7:47:51 > 7:47:55But to be honest with you, number one is be safe.
7:47:55 > 7:47:57I can't think about that too much
7:47:57 > 7:48:00cos that actually does really make me scared.
7:48:00 > 7:48:02Now it's my turn.
7:48:02 > 7:48:06I'm about to go at the same speed as a car on the motorway,
7:48:06 > 7:48:09except I'm going face first, down the ice.
7:48:14 > 7:48:16After just a couple of hundred metres,
7:48:16 > 7:48:17I'm really picking up pace.
7:48:23 > 7:48:24Before I know it,
7:48:24 > 7:48:27I'm hurtling around the longest bend in the course.
7:48:29 > 7:48:33And once I'm clear of that, I'm approaching the danger corner -
7:48:33 > 7:48:34corner nine.
7:48:39 > 7:48:42And I'm through, on the sled in one piece.
7:48:47 > 7:48:49And now I'm on the home straight...
7:48:49 > 7:48:51and loving it!
7:48:51 > 7:48:53Oh, my goodness!
7:48:55 > 7:48:57Yes!
7:49:00 > 7:49:04Oh, on the top of that run I was thinking to myself,
7:49:04 > 7:49:05"Am I going to do this?
7:49:05 > 7:49:08"Come on, Radzi! Come on, Radzi! Let's do it, let's do it."
7:49:13 > 7:49:15And I am so pleased I just did that.
7:49:16 > 7:49:19Oh, my goodness, my heart is absolutely pounding.
7:49:23 > 7:49:25I actually loved that.
7:49:25 > 7:49:28Oh, that was so good.
7:49:34 > 7:49:38CHEERING AND APPLAUSE
7:49:38 > 7:49:40Radzi, I like going fast, you know that.
7:49:40 > 7:49:42In a car, on a motorbike - no problem at all.
7:49:42 > 7:49:45But 2cm off the ground, on ice, that must be terrifying.
7:49:45 > 7:49:48Do you know what? If you do it, you'll get addicted. Trust me.
7:49:48 > 7:49:50It's so good! But I couldn't have done it without the help
7:49:50 > 7:49:53from British Skeleton and Mark Wood, so thank you so much.
7:49:53 > 7:49:57And also, a huge good luck to Dom Parsons, to Kristan Bromley,
7:49:57 > 7:49:59to Shelley Rudman and to Lizzy Yarnold.
7:49:59 > 7:50:02They're going to be competing for Team GB in skeleton. Good luck.
7:50:02 > 7:50:04I'd love to be able to give you a gold medal cos you deserve one
7:50:04 > 7:50:07but I don't have any. I have biscuits that look like medals.
7:50:07 > 7:50:09- Good enough for me. - Let's go and make them.
7:50:09 > 7:50:11- Hello, guys. How are we? ALL:- Good.- We're good?
7:50:11 > 7:50:14We've got Nate, Brady, Scott and Lewis. Welcome to the show.
7:50:14 > 7:50:16Now, we're going to be talking about the Winter Olympics
7:50:16 > 7:50:17cos it all kicks off tomorrow.
7:50:17 > 7:50:19So favourite sports? What do you like?
7:50:19 > 7:50:21- Snowboarding. - Freestyle snowboarding.
7:50:21 > 7:50:24- I can tell you're a freestyler. - Slopestyle and bobsleighing.
7:50:24 > 7:50:26- Yeah, bobsleigh. - Slopestyle and bobsleigh.
7:50:26 > 7:50:28And if you could compete in any of these sports,
7:50:28 > 7:50:31- you'd want a medal, wouldn't you? ALL:- Yeah.- We're going to make some.
7:50:31 > 7:50:32Take a look at the cushion of joy.
7:50:32 > 7:50:34It's got a gold, silver and a bronze on it.
7:50:34 > 7:50:37- We're all going for gold, let's be honest.- Yeah.- Gold!
7:50:37 > 7:50:38It's dead easy to make these.
7:50:38 > 7:50:41They're just biscuits that have been decorated in a pretty way.
7:50:41 > 7:50:43All you've got to do is go to the website...
7:50:43 > 7:50:45You'll find everything you need for this make on there.
7:50:45 > 7:50:48But don't go just yet, cos I've got to show you how to make 'em.
7:50:48 > 7:50:50We're going to preheat the oven at 150.
7:50:50 > 7:50:53That's gas mark 2 for those of you that have an oven from the '70s.
7:50:53 > 7:50:56OK, butter and sugar go into a bowl, just like that.
7:50:56 > 7:50:59And then what've got to do is mix them. So, boys, mix away.
7:50:59 > 7:51:01It's all yours. And while you're doing that,
7:51:01 > 7:51:03let's talk about your photograph, Brady.
7:51:03 > 7:51:05Tell us more about this.
7:51:05 > 7:51:08Well, we were at a competition in Canada
7:51:08 > 7:51:11and we were just waiting for my run.
7:51:11 > 7:51:13- And you just thought you'd just pose for a photo?- Yeah.
7:51:13 > 7:51:15It's one of those moments
7:51:15 > 7:51:17- where you want to get your best side on film for ever. I like it.- Yeah.
7:51:17 > 7:51:20Don't forget to start decorating these, by the way.
7:51:20 > 7:51:23We've got glittery pens, silver balls, gold balls, glitter,
7:51:23 > 7:51:24you've got icing. Just go for it.
7:51:24 > 7:51:26Once you've mixed your butter and your sugar...
7:51:26 > 7:51:29Fabulous job, boys. ..you need to put your flour into it.
7:51:29 > 7:51:31Save a bit of flour cos you want to put that on the table
7:51:31 > 7:51:33so you call roll the dough out in a minute.
7:51:33 > 7:51:36All the measurements for this are on the website, by the way.
7:51:36 > 7:51:38So now, I think, boys, you've been far too clean.
7:51:38 > 7:51:40Get your hands in there. Give me that.
7:51:40 > 7:51:42Go for it! Make your dough.
7:51:42 > 7:51:44And I need to come down there if I can, Lewis.
7:51:44 > 7:51:47You want to keep mixing that for as long as you can,
7:51:47 > 7:51:49till it starts to look something like this -
7:51:49 > 7:51:51a dough ball.
7:51:51 > 7:51:52Oh, yeah! I like this.
7:51:52 > 7:51:55Now, lots of flour on the table.
7:51:55 > 7:51:57Of course we've all washed our hands, before you ask.
7:51:59 > 7:52:00All right.
7:52:02 > 7:52:04Flour on the rolling pin. Where's me rolling pin?
7:52:04 > 7:52:07Excuse me, boys. Thank you.
7:52:07 > 7:52:09I need some of that flour off there.
7:52:09 > 7:52:12The reason you're doing the flour on the rolling pin and the table
7:52:12 > 7:52:14is cos you do not want it to stick to the table,
7:52:14 > 7:52:16like that.
7:52:16 > 7:52:18I'm showing you how not to do it!
7:52:18 > 7:52:20OK. So, as you can see here,
7:52:20 > 7:52:23putting flour down first means that your dough
7:52:23 > 7:52:26will not stick to the table or the roller
7:52:26 > 7:52:28and that is very important to remember that, OK?.
7:52:28 > 7:52:31Nobody wants flour and dough stuck to their rolling pin.
7:52:31 > 7:52:36So once you've rolled it out into a nice, flat, circular,
7:52:36 > 7:52:391cm thin bit of dough,
7:52:39 > 7:52:41you need to cut it out.
7:52:41 > 7:52:44And here you can use a cookie cutter if you want to.
7:52:44 > 7:52:45Really simple to do.
7:52:45 > 7:52:48If you haven't got one of those, you can use a cup.
7:52:48 > 7:52:51Just turn it upside down and cut round it. It's dead easy.
7:52:51 > 7:52:54Now you also need to make a little... How are you doing, boys?
7:52:54 > 7:52:55You look like you're getting tired.
7:52:55 > 7:52:57I'm only making you do it cos I didn't want to.
7:52:57 > 7:52:59You're doing a great job.
7:52:59 > 7:53:01You need to make a little hole for your ribbon to go through.
7:53:01 > 7:53:05To do that, you can use the end of a paintbrush, like that.
7:53:05 > 7:53:07Just go through
7:53:07 > 7:53:10and then chuck it on your trays, which I'm going to do now.
7:53:10 > 7:53:12Now make sure you grease the baking tray as well,
7:53:12 > 7:53:14cos we don't want anything else sticking!
7:53:14 > 7:53:17And you can just add to the other cookies on there.
7:53:17 > 7:53:19It's dead easy.
7:53:19 > 7:53:20And while we're doing this,
7:53:20 > 7:53:22let's talk about Scott's amazing photograph.
7:53:22 > 7:53:25Have you seen this? This is amazing. Scott, talk us through it.
7:53:25 > 7:53:29Well, it was at an event at Chill Factore.
7:53:29 > 7:53:31And yeah, I love backflips and front flips
7:53:31 > 7:53:33so I decided to do that flip.
7:53:33 > 7:53:35And they were just dead easy to do.
7:53:35 > 7:53:37You thought you'd pose and do a back flip, why not?
7:53:37 > 7:53:41I understand. Now, don't forget our oven has been preheated to 150.
7:53:41 > 7:53:44Chuck the ones on top that you're going to be cooking,
7:53:44 > 7:53:46And here's some somebody else made earlier.
7:53:46 > 7:53:48Don't forget these are going to be hot when you take them out,
7:53:48 > 7:53:51so make sure you leave them to cool. Excuse me, hot tray coming through.
7:53:51 > 7:53:53There you go. How are yours getting on?
7:53:53 > 7:53:55You're decorating them with glittery pens.
7:53:55 > 7:53:57What style are we going for? Tell me.
7:53:57 > 7:54:00- I'm going for a snowboarder.- Yeah.
7:54:00 > 7:54:03You could do one like Scott, back flipping. That'd be wicked!
7:54:03 > 7:54:05- How about you, Brady? - A mountain.- A mountain?
7:54:05 > 7:54:07Well, there's icing sugar there,
7:54:07 > 7:54:09- you could use that as snow on top. - Yeah.- Go for it.
7:54:09 > 7:54:11There's a great thing about these glitter pens
7:54:11 > 7:54:12that not many people know,
7:54:12 > 7:54:14you can't tell what flavour they are.
7:54:14 > 7:54:16Close your eyes and put your hand over your mouth,
7:54:16 > 7:54:19you've got to tell me what flavour you think this is.
7:54:19 > 7:54:21What flavour is that? Can you tell?
7:54:21 > 7:54:23- Any idea?- Banana.- Banana!
7:54:23 > 7:54:25Well done, you got it right. Congratulations.
7:54:25 > 7:54:29- So once you have decorated them... What, you've got a little...- Yeah.
7:54:29 > 7:54:32..chuck the ribbon through the hole in your now-cooked biscuit
7:54:32 > 7:54:34and there you have it.
7:54:34 > 7:54:36As long as you decorate it the way that you want,
7:54:36 > 7:54:39which is gold, silver, bronze or any kind of sparkly design,
7:54:39 > 7:54:40everyone's going to be happy.
7:54:40 > 7:54:42There you go. All the details are on the website.
7:54:42 > 7:54:45Head over there and have a look for yourself.
7:54:45 > 7:54:46- Lindsey!- Yes.
7:54:46 > 7:54:49Those look delish. Scrumptious, thank you.
7:54:49 > 7:54:51And why don't you head online if you get a chance,
7:54:51 > 7:54:55if you like the look of edible medals, bbc.co.uk/bluepeter,
7:54:55 > 7:54:57and play our brand-new game.
7:54:57 > 7:55:00It's for Sport Relief and it's called Athletes Vs Monsters.
7:55:00 > 7:55:03It's so fun. You can make little tournaments with your friends
7:55:03 > 7:55:05and if you come first, second or third,
7:55:05 > 7:55:07you get to give out edible medals. Yum!
7:55:07 > 7:55:09So make sure you go check it out.
7:55:09 > 7:55:10And if you do make edible medals,
7:55:10 > 7:55:12make sure you send us a photo of them.
7:55:12 > 7:55:14Stop messing around, you lot!
7:55:14 > 7:55:17It does not fit round my neck, does it?
7:55:17 > 7:55:20- There's dough everywhere!- Thank you. - Check out the muscle in your neck!
7:55:20 > 7:55:23- I'll just hold it, let's pretend I'm not here.- Let's roll with it.
7:55:23 > 7:55:26- Look at this big badge wall, by the way!- It's packed. Caked!
7:55:26 > 7:55:28Caked like this medal is in glitter,
7:55:28 > 7:55:31- which is actually pouring down. - LOUD RUSTLING
7:55:31 > 7:55:33Look at this one, now. This is from Annabel.
7:55:33 > 7:55:36- Let me move that. We can't hear your beautiful voice.- Thank you.
7:55:36 > 7:55:38- It was good while it lasted! - Hopefully you can hear me now.
7:55:38 > 7:55:41This is... Come and stand here and point to that on there.
7:55:41 > 7:55:43That's from Annabel from Surrey and that's the Winter Olympics.
7:55:43 > 7:55:46- I love that.- But my favourite has to be from Ailsa.
7:55:46 > 7:55:49Now, if you read that there, that's a door hanger. It says,
7:55:49 > 7:55:51"Do not disturb, I am watching Blue Peter."
7:55:51 > 7:55:54- Quite right.- Rightly so, between 5:30 and 6 on Thursday on CBBC.
7:55:54 > 7:55:56But when you're not doing that,
7:55:56 > 7:55:58"Come in for some epic Blue Peter fun."
7:55:58 > 7:56:00- Love it, Ailsa! - That's what we're doing now -
7:56:00 > 7:56:02epic Blue Peter fun, I like to call this.
