7:30:56 > 7:30:57Dive in!

7:30:57 > 7:31:00But Lindsey, it's hard to take you seriously as Cruella de Vil.

7:31:00 > 7:31:02What are you talking about? This is a great costume.

7:31:02 > 7:31:04Also you can't talk! You're an Oompa Loompa.

7:31:04 > 7:31:07- I am but I am a good Oompa Loompa. - Yeah, you are.

7:31:07 > 7:31:10Anyway, as you can tell, we have been inspired by you lot at home

7:31:10 > 7:31:13because we always get sent in... Stop it!

7:31:13 > 7:31:15..great photos of you lot dressing up for World Book Day.

7:31:15 > 7:31:17And of course, as Radzi said,

7:31:17 > 7:31:18I'm Cruella de Vil

7:31:18 > 7:31:20from The Hundred And One Dalmatians by Dodie Smith.

7:31:20 > 7:31:22It's the first time I can say this.

7:31:22 > 7:31:24My hair is getting in my eyes!

7:31:24 > 7:31:26Yes, you voted in your thousands.

7:31:26 > 7:31:29- So thank you so much for that. - Do you know what...?

7:31:29 > 7:31:31I'm saying that because there's one person missing.

7:31:31 > 7:31:33There is, from this Blue Peter trio.

7:31:33 > 7:31:35- Guess who! It's Barney Harwood of course.- It is.

7:31:35 > 7:31:39And he is getting into his costume that you lot have chosen for him.

7:31:39 > 7:31:42Yes, and you voted in your thousands, as I just said.

7:31:42 > 7:31:43And thank you so much for doing so.

7:31:43 > 7:31:46There were three characters you could have voted for but...

7:31:46 > 7:31:49the voting is closed.

7:31:49 > 7:31:52Yes, indeed, it is. Who were the characters, Lindsey?

7:31:52 > 7:31:56Well, you could choose Bilbo Baggins from the Hobbit by JRR Tolkien.

7:31:56 > 7:31:58Gangsta Granny by David Walliams.

7:31:58 > 7:32:02Or the Mad Hatter from Alice In Wonderland by Lewis Carroll.

7:32:02 > 7:32:06We can reveal the character you voted that Barney Harwood

7:32:06 > 7:32:07is now dressed up as is...

7:32:07 > 7:32:10- BOTH:- Gangsta Granny!

7:32:14 > 7:32:16This is my favourite show ever.

7:32:16 > 7:32:18Barney, you look unbelievable.

7:32:18 > 7:32:21- Thank you, I want one of these. - You look like Gangsta Granny!

7:32:21 > 7:32:23Thank you, everybody. We had so many votes

7:32:23 > 7:32:24- and it's well worth it. - It really is!

7:32:24 > 7:32:27Can I just say what a brilliant character Gangsta Granny is?!

7:32:27 > 7:32:30She's not the only great character that's been created by an author

7:32:30 > 7:32:32cos if we go this way... Can I have a lift, please?

7:32:32 > 7:32:35- Of course you can.- OK, I'll just jump on. Let's go.

7:32:35 > 7:32:36Aah!

7:32:36 > 7:32:39If we go over this way, we could meet...

7:32:39 > 7:32:41- Oh, my gosh, Barney, stop! - Here you are, you're sorted.

7:32:41 > 7:32:44..we could meet author Anthony Horowitz. Hello.

7:32:44 > 7:32:47CHEERING AND SMASHING

7:32:47 > 7:32:49- Anthony, hi.- Cruella! - Hello, Anthony.

7:32:49 > 7:32:51It's great to have you here on Blue Peter.

7:32:51 > 7:32:54And it's even better to see you wearing your gold Blue Peter badge.

7:32:54 > 7:32:56Barney leapt out in a supermarket and gave that to me.

7:32:56 > 7:32:59I was so excited! I was doing a signing and it was great.

7:32:59 > 7:33:01It looks brilliant. Now, let's get down to business

7:33:01 > 7:33:04cos we all love the Alex Rider series, myself included.

7:33:04 > 7:33:06And your new book is actually a prequel of the series.

7:33:06 > 7:33:08What made you want to write it?

7:33:08 > 7:33:10Russian Roulette was a book about an assassin.

7:33:10 > 7:33:12I decided that for the first time,

7:33:12 > 7:33:14instead of writing about a hero, I'd write about a villain.

7:33:14 > 7:33:17And Alex Rider fans will know that Yassen Gregorovich

7:33:17 > 7:33:19is the assassin who chases Alex through all the books.

7:33:19 > 7:33:22And so I decided to find out what turned him into a bad guy.

7:33:22 > 7:33:23That was the idea.

7:33:23 > 7:33:25Now, how difficult is it to write a villain?

7:33:25 > 7:33:28Is it something quite tricky? What are your top tips?

7:33:28 > 7:33:30- Actually, Lindsey, villains are easier.- Really?

7:33:30 > 7:33:32Well, you can only be good, really, in one way

7:33:32 > 7:33:35- but you can be bad in all sorts of ways.- That's true!

7:33:35 > 7:33:37I draw my villains from all sorts of places -

7:33:37 > 7:33:39people I know... relatives make very good villains.

7:33:39 > 7:33:41I take them out of the newspapers, sometimes,

7:33:41 > 7:33:43politicians and bad people around the world.

7:33:43 > 7:33:45Inspiration is everywhere!

7:33:45 > 7:33:47So you think it is more difficult

7:33:47 > 7:33:49to write heroes into your books sometimes?

7:33:49 > 7:33:51Creating a hero is difficult but when you've got a villain,

7:33:51 > 7:33:54what's great is you can give them a terrible ending.

7:33:54 > 7:33:56When I start creating a villain, I'm always thinking,

7:33:56 > 7:33:58"What's going to happen to them at the end?"

7:33:58 > 7:33:59And that's part of the fun.

7:33:59 > 7:34:01You have the coolest job!

7:34:01 > 7:34:03And you're doing something special for us today in the studio.

7:34:03 > 7:34:06You're going to be writing a live story, and you?

7:34:06 > 7:34:08- It is quite a challenge but with help, fortunately.- Yes!

7:34:08 > 7:34:11Luckily, you lot at home have been getting in touch,

7:34:11 > 7:34:14sending in your comments and suggestions on the website

7:34:14 > 7:34:15for Anthony, to help him begin his story.

7:34:15 > 7:34:18You've started it, haven't you? You've got some favourite ideas?

7:34:18 > 7:34:21I've had some fantastic ideas from Blue Peter viewers.

7:34:21 > 7:34:24Let's start with JadeSweetAvocado.

7:34:24 > 7:34:26- She said, "Make Barney Harwood the villain."- I like that.

7:34:26 > 7:34:29- I might make him the hero, in fact. - OK.

7:34:29 > 7:34:31PlumTwistingGhost said, "Set it in the future."

7:34:31 > 7:34:32Sci-fi, why not?

7:34:32 > 7:34:35AmaranthJokeyPrincess wanted it set in 2020.

7:34:35 > 7:34:37I'm going to go a bit later.

7:34:37 > 7:34:39But here's an idea, "When fun is against the law."

7:34:39 > 7:34:41- I think that's a great idea. - Wow, that IS a good idea.

7:34:41 > 7:34:46EmeraldCloudyZebrafish came up with a hero called Theodore Electron.

7:34:46 > 7:34:48- Isn't that a great name? - That is an amazing name!

7:34:48 > 7:34:50And NavyblueUkeleleHeather said,

7:34:50 > 7:34:52"Set it in a Scottish castle in Elgin."

7:34:52 > 7:34:54I've never been there but I like the sound of it.

7:34:54 > 7:34:57Very specific! We have viewers that know exactly what they want.

7:34:57 > 7:34:59And loads of great ideas.

7:34:59 > 7:35:01You've actually used them to come up with a plot,

7:35:01 > 7:35:02some ideas for the story.

7:35:02 > 7:35:06Combining all those suggestions, it goes something like this.

7:35:06 > 7:35:07OK, take it away, Anthony.

7:35:07 > 7:35:09There's an episode of Blue Peter

7:35:09 > 7:35:12being beamed from a secret television studio

7:35:12 > 7:35:13in a castle in Scotland.

7:35:13 > 7:35:16This is the year 2050, when all fun has been banned.

7:35:16 > 7:35:20Blue Peter is breaking the law by transmitting cheerful programmes.

7:35:20 > 7:35:23But what they don't know is that their special guest,

7:35:23 > 7:35:24Theodore Electron,

7:35:24 > 7:35:27is actually a government agent.

7:35:29 > 7:35:32OK! So there's actually a lot to work with there, isn't there?

7:35:32 > 7:35:34- And not much time.- Not much time! So let's get on with it.

7:35:34 > 7:35:37What do you need next from our viewers?

7:35:37 > 7:35:40Well, if we're to have Barney, let's have a description of Barney.

7:35:40 > 7:35:42Let's have just a few words. How would you describe Barney?

7:35:42 > 7:35:44This is a sci-fi story

7:35:44 > 7:35:48so what sort of pet would you find in this studio in 50 years' time?

7:35:48 > 7:35:49I like that a lot.

7:35:49 > 7:35:52And if you were a baddie, how would you sabotage the studio?

7:35:52 > 7:35:54I don't want something simple like a bomb,

7:35:54 > 7:35:56- more interesting and imaginative.- OK.

7:35:56 > 7:35:58How do you sabotage it here?

7:35:58 > 7:35:59So the viewers can be really creative?

7:35:59 > 7:36:01And all those ideas I will put into the story

7:36:01 > 7:36:03- which I'll be writing from now. - We can't wait!

7:36:03 > 7:36:06- You get writing. You've only got about nine minutes.- Right, OK!

7:36:06 > 7:36:09You know what to do at home. Get to the website...

7:36:10 > 7:36:14Get those ideas coming in! It's over to you, Radzi.

7:36:14 > 7:36:16Writing a story in that short space of time,

7:36:16 > 7:36:18that is a challenge!

7:36:18 > 7:36:21- I am beginning... - HE LAUGHS

7:36:21 > 7:36:24Now, challenges are something that I'm learning a lot more about

7:36:24 > 7:36:26being a presenter on Blue Peter,

7:36:26 > 7:36:30as you'll have seen last week when we launched Team Blue Peter

7:36:30 > 7:36:34and I started the journey of my epic Sport Relief swimming challenge

7:36:34 > 7:36:39to swing...swim, rather, one mile of Lake Windermere,

7:36:39 > 7:36:41the freezing lake Windermere,

7:36:41 > 7:36:44the immensely cold Lake Windermere, which I struggled so much with.

7:36:44 > 7:36:47Well, last week was a journey to get me to this point here

7:36:47 > 7:36:49- my attempt of the one mile.

7:36:49 > 7:36:50Here's how I got on.

7:36:53 > 7:36:57Ten weeks ago, I began my very own Sport Relief adventure.

7:36:57 > 7:37:02I was given the challenge to swim one mile in open water in February.

7:37:06 > 7:37:09With the help of expert Colin Hill, training started.

7:37:09 > 7:37:11- I'm definitely going to get in there.- Oh, yeah.

7:37:11 > 7:37:13No discussion, you're getting in.

7:37:13 > 7:37:17My first experience of cold water was awful!

7:37:17 > 7:37:20And I soon discovered that open water swimming

7:37:20 > 7:37:21is a lot harder than it looks.

7:37:22 > 7:37:26I've spent the last ten weeks preparing for this challenge,

7:37:26 > 7:37:29with some Blue Peter support along the way.

7:37:29 > 7:37:32And I've also experienced a different type of cold...

7:37:32 > 7:37:34an ice bath!

7:37:34 > 7:37:37As things stand now, I'm not ready.

7:37:37 > 7:37:41But I continued to train and swum my furthest distance to date.

7:37:41 > 7:37:43- Take your marks... - HORN SOUNDS

7:37:43 > 7:37:45For safety reasons, I wore a wet suit.

7:37:45 > 7:37:48But it really didn't make it any easier.

7:37:48 > 7:37:50If I couldn't finish 1,000m

7:37:50 > 7:37:53then I wouldn't be allowed to attempt the final mile.

7:37:53 > 7:37:55I just swum 1,000m

7:37:55 > 7:37:57and I've got my medal to prove it!

7:37:57 > 7:38:01This journey has been long but it's not over.

7:38:01 > 7:38:03'The final swim is edging ever closer.'

7:38:08 > 7:38:11'With my confidence low and the mile swim approaching,

7:38:11 > 7:38:14'Colin takes me to see the swim route before the big day.'

7:38:14 > 7:38:18We'll go and see one of the potential start points for the mile swim.

7:38:18 > 7:38:21Just give you a feeling about how far it's going to look

7:38:21 > 7:38:22from where you're going to start.

7:38:22 > 7:38:25In most places up this end it's about a mile wide.

7:38:25 > 7:38:29With the cold water challenge you will just continue to get colder.

7:38:30 > 7:38:34OK, we're going to start just over the shore in Wray Bay.

7:38:34 > 7:38:37I think I'm getting the gist. It's a lot longer than I thought.

7:38:40 > 7:38:43That is a lot further than I thought.

7:38:43 > 7:38:47With a bit of luck, we have snow on the mountains, it'll be nice

7:38:47 > 7:38:50and cold, under five degrees, to really, you know,

7:38:50 > 7:38:52that's going to be a real proper challenge for you.

7:38:53 > 7:38:56'My ten weeks of preparation were over

7:38:56 > 7:38:59'and it was time to put my training to the test.'

7:39:01 > 7:39:02'It was challenge day.

7:39:02 > 7:39:05'But luckily I had top British swimmer Keri-Anne Payne to give me

7:39:05 > 7:39:07'some last-minute advice.

7:39:07 > 7:39:10'She's a two-time World 10K Open Water Champion

7:39:10 > 7:39:11'and Olympic silver medallist.'

7:39:13 > 7:39:15In a few minutes time, I'm going to get getting in that

7:39:15 > 7:39:17and I'm a little bit nervous.

7:39:17 > 7:39:19That's good, nerves are a really good thing.

7:39:19 > 7:39:23I always get nervous. It's just your body's natural instinct.

7:39:23 > 7:39:26It's getting to swim, it's getting ready to do this amazing challenge

7:39:26 > 7:39:28that you're about to take. So, nerves are really good.

7:39:28 > 7:39:31What's it going to feel like when you actually get to the end?

7:39:31 > 7:39:35The feeling is just of elation, pretty much and for ever more

7:39:35 > 7:39:38I will remember the finish of my race.

7:39:38 > 7:39:41Go out there and just absolutely enjoy it, if you possibly can.

7:39:41 > 7:39:43And I think we still need to get you warmed up,

7:39:43 > 7:39:46so you better get ready to go and I'll see you on the other side.

7:39:46 > 7:39:49- Hopefully I'll see you when I've finished.- Yes.

7:39:49 > 7:39:50Good luck!

7:40:19 > 7:40:22Good luck, Radzi.

7:40:22 > 7:40:25'From the beach, I knew the lake was choppy, but it was only

7:40:25 > 7:40:28'when I entered the water that I realised just how bad it was.'

7:40:30 > 7:40:33OK, Radzi, this way, this way, Radzi, this way.

7:40:33 > 7:40:37'The waves make me lose my bearings and straightaway I go off course.

7:40:37 > 7:40:40'I've never swam in anything like this before.'

7:40:40 > 7:40:42That's it, keep going. Just follow the kayaker.

7:40:42 > 7:40:45He's got loads of support. We've got loads of kids that have come down

7:40:45 > 7:40:48from the local area, they've made posters and banners.

7:40:48 > 7:40:50CHEERING

7:40:50 > 7:40:53This way, Radzi, this way. This way, Radzi.

7:40:55 > 7:40:57Must have set off about ten minutes ago.

7:40:57 > 7:41:00- I thought we would have seen him by now.- We can't see anything.

7:41:00 > 7:41:03'The strong winds and choppiness of the water have now made this

7:41:03 > 7:41:06'challenge near on impossible for me.'

7:41:08 > 7:41:09You're doing good, Radzi.

7:41:16 > 7:41:18I thought we'd see at least his hair from here.

7:41:18 > 7:41:19THEY LAUGH

7:41:19 > 7:41:22You can see his hair from space.

7:41:22 > 7:41:23'Colin tells me to push on

7:41:23 > 7:41:26'but that's exactly what I was trying to do.'

7:41:26 > 7:41:28Keep it going. Dig in.

7:41:28 > 7:41:32'So, I start to doubt whether I even have enough in me to carry on.'

7:41:32 > 7:41:34One thing I'll say is that he's determined.

7:41:35 > 7:41:38This isn't easy.

7:41:38 > 7:41:40OK, we've got the ferry about to go past now.

7:41:40 > 7:41:43That's going to cause a few more waves for him,

7:41:43 > 7:41:45on top of the waves you already have.

7:41:47 > 7:41:51Radzi, the freestyle is much faster. Dig in.

7:41:55 > 7:41:57This is a tough challenge. You're doing really well.

7:41:59 > 7:42:01It was a personal challenge for Radzi as well -

7:42:01 > 7:42:04he's not a big fan of the cold and that's why he wanted to do this.

7:42:04 > 7:42:07You know, that overcoming-your-fears kind of challenge.

7:42:07 > 7:42:11OK, Radzi, you're halfway. This is great. Keep it going.

7:42:11 > 7:42:15'I take a deep breath and go for it. I've decided to fight this.

7:42:15 > 7:42:17'I will not be beaten.'

7:42:17 > 7:42:19We can see the crowds waiting for you.

7:42:19 > 7:42:22Going to get some shelter from these waves soon,

7:42:22 > 7:42:24so dig in for the next five minutes.

7:42:24 > 7:42:26'The cold is taking over.

7:42:26 > 7:42:28'I'm so tired but worse than that,

7:42:28 > 7:42:32'I begin to lose all coordination, hypothermia's kicking in,

7:42:32 > 7:42:35'and I start to worry that Colin's going to have to pull me out.'

7:42:36 > 7:42:39Heads towards this boat. Keep going, Radzi.

7:42:40 > 7:42:42Yeah, that way, keep going.

7:42:43 > 7:42:48He must be feeling like his muscles don't want to work.

7:42:48 > 7:42:51You're nearly three quarters, very nearly.

7:47:48 > 7:47:51- How difficult was that? - Well, it was very hard, but I had

7:47:51 > 7:47:53two great judges helping me and in the end I think we got down to

7:47:53 > 7:47:56six books, three in each category, that we're really proud of.

7:49:27 > 7:49:29Yeah!

7:49:29 > 7:49:31- You do it, too.- BOTH: Yeah!

7:49:31 > 7:49:36Thank you very much. If being pleased is about that big then I'm,

7:50:49 > 7:50:53I think we should see that. We've got an action replay machine as well.

7:50:53 > 7:50:55Let's talk about where the idea for the book came from.

7:50:55 > 7:50:59So, it's about children who live up on rooftop of Paris and when I was a

7:50:59 > 7:51:02student at uni I used to go running around the rooftops at Oxford.

7:51:02 > 7:51:05And, like, put a bit of lipstick on the gargoyles. And then once I saw

7:51:05 > 7:51:06a beer bottle up there and I thought,

7:51:06 > 7:51:10"What if people lives up on the rooftops? Secret lives, what then?"

7:51:10 > 7:51:13Amazing. And who'd have thought to go from an idea as simple as that to

7:51:13 > 7:51:15a story that's got you the Blue Peter Book Award 2014.

7:51:15 > 7:51:17One more round of applause, please.

7:51:17 > 7:51:20CHEERING

7:51:20 > 7:51:22Now, it's really great to have everyone here in the studio.

7:51:22 > 7:51:25I want to say think you very much for being involved but also

7:51:25 > 7:51:28if you want to be a superstar author, why not get the World Book Day

7:51:28 > 7:51:30voucher you've got at your school and exchange it for a book

7:51:30 > 7:51:33you want to read. Reading that could give you some cool ideas of your own

7:51:33 > 7:51:36and you could be stood here in a few years. It might even make you into

7:51:36 > 7:51:38a world superstar author

7:51:38 > 7:51:40who can write a story during a live TV programme.

7:51:40 > 7:51:41Linds, how's he getting on?

7:51:41 > 7:51:44We're getting on well. How's it going, Anthony?

7:51:44 > 7:51:47- Well, the story is sort of in shape. - OK, starting to take shape.

7:51:47 > 7:51:49The website's playing up a bit, isn't it?

7:51:49 > 7:51:52We haven't had the title through yet, and I haven't yet had the joke

7:51:52 > 7:51:53but there's still time.

7:51:53 > 7:51:56That just proves it is officially live Blue Peter.

7:51:56 > 7:51:58The website's been overloaded with comments.

7:51:58 > 7:52:01So, do keep sending in your ideas and while we're on that topic,

7:52:01 > 7:52:03what do we need to be sending in next?

7:52:03 > 7:52:06- Well, I think I've got pretty much everything I need now, actually.- OK.

7:52:06 > 7:52:08So, we're still looking for a title.

7:52:08 > 7:52:11Just a title would still be great and a joke. I just want one.

7:52:11 > 7:52:13- Somebody must know a bad joke. - A really, really bad joke.

7:52:13 > 7:52:16And if the website doesn't work we've always got Barney

7:52:16 > 7:52:18standing by ready to give us a terrible joke.

7:52:18 > 7:52:20So, don't even worry about it.

7:52:20 > 7:52:23Not many time left now. Good luck. I can't wait to see how it works out.

7:52:23 > 7:52:25Thanks a lot.

7:52:25 > 7:52:28Thank you very much, that was amazing.

7:52:28 > 7:52:30There really isn't much time left for Anthony to create his story

7:52:30 > 7:52:33but it's not just Mr Horowitz that you lot at home have been

7:52:33 > 7:52:37getting in touch with. Take a look at this big badge wall this week.

7:52:41 > 7:52:44It's amazing. You've all been inspired by things that you've

7:52:44 > 7:52:45seen on the Blue Peter telly show.

7:52:45 > 7:52:48This is Ruben from Blackpool, my home town.

7:52:48 > 7:52:50And this is a his picture of crayon art, which is

7:52:50 > 7:52:52a ship that he's designed.

7:52:52 > 7:52:54He's wearing a lot of badges there as well.

7:52:54 > 7:52:57Honestly, it's so good to see people being creative but even more so

7:52:57 > 7:53:00that you're wearing your badges and that you've had a great go at that.

7:53:27 > 7:53:30Look, it's a little clay necklace that he's made. How good is that?

7:53:30 > 7:53:33I think we're definitely going to be giving it to Gangster Granny.

7:53:33 > 7:53:36She could pull that off, couldn't she? We love it, Victor, thank you.

7:53:36 > 7:53:38Thank you, all of you, for getting in touch

7:53:58 > 7:54:02This week we have an amazing author making a story live on the show.

7:54:02 > 7:54:04Does it get any better than that?

7:54:04 > 7:54:06I don't think it can but we can try and do something a bit similar

7:54:06 > 7:54:10but different. We're going to try and write a song next week with this guy,

7:54:10 > 7:54:12he's called Beardyman. He's amazing.

7:54:12 > 7:54:15# You're not a real zookeeper

7:54:15 > 7:54:17# No, no, no, no

7:54:17 > 7:54:19# You're not a real zookeeper

7:54:37 > 7:54:40that he's going to be using to write a song. But he won't be able

7:54:40 > 7:54:43to do that without your help. So, we need you to get in touch, please.

7:54:43 > 7:54:46I'm so excited. We want you to come up with a name of the song

7:54:46 > 7:54:48that he is going to sing.

7:54:48 > 7:54:51You could choose anything but he has to remind you of Blue Peter.

7:54:51 > 7:54:53I'd go for I'm Feeling Cold. I'm Feeling Very, Very Cold.

7:54:53 > 7:54:55How about Blue Speaker?

7:54:55 > 7:54:58It sounds like the show and beats and tunes come from speakers.

7:54:58 > 7:55:01Whatever you think, get on to the website - bbc.co.uk/bluepeter.

7:55:01 > 7:55:03And we'll see how it turns out next week.

7:55:03 > 7:55:05In the meantime, though, how's the story getting on?

7:55:05 > 7:55:07It's going pretty well. It's the moment you have

7:55:07 > 7:55:10all been waiting for. Thank you to all of you who've sent in a comment.

7:55:10 > 7:55:12It's really annoying the website's being annoying.

7:55:12 > 7:55:15- I've had some wonderful ideas anyway.- Luckily we're with a pro,

7:55:15 > 7:55:18Anthony Horowitz himself. So, Anthony, it's over to you.

7:55:18 > 7:55:20I can't read it all but here's how it goes so far.

7:55:22 > 7:55:25The recording sign flared red. The camera closed in.

7:55:25 > 7:55:28A hush fell on the studio as the 10,000th edition of Blue Peter

7:55:28 > 7:55:29began to transmit.

7:55:29 > 7:55:32Barney Harwood, the long running presenter was now 70 years old

7:55:32 > 7:55:35but thanks to plastic surgery and used cryogenic drugs,

7:55:35 > 7:55:40he still looked 17, tall, mysterious, with piercing eyes.

7:55:40 > 7:55:41Everything else had changed.

7:55:41 > 7:55:44The year was 2050 and the programme was being recorded in a secret

7:55:44 > 7:55:48cavern deep underneath the ruins of Elgin Castle in Scotland.

7:55:48 > 7:55:50It had been 20 years since the government passed

7:55:50 > 7:55:52its controversial No More Fun Bill,

7:55:52 > 7:55:55an attempt to get the country to take itself more seriously.

7:55:55 > 7:55:58And, of course, Blue Peter had been one of the first casualties.

7:55:58 > 7:56:00Doctor Who, Sherlock and Horrible Histories

7:56:00 > 7:56:02and Downton Abbey had all vanished from the airwaves.

7:56:02 > 7:56:06Only Newsnight and Question Time remained. Barney cleared his throat.

7:56:06 > 7:56:10Behind him, the Blue Peter pet, a pink flying unicorn that had

7:56:10 > 7:56:14actually been created by scientists on the programme, stamped its foot.

7:56:14 > 7:56:15"Hello," Barney began.

7:56:15 > 7:56:18"Today on Blue Peter, our special guest is Theodore Electron,

7:56:18 > 7:56:22"who is going to talk to us about his new book 500 Illegal Jokes."

7:56:22 > 7:56:25He turned to his guest. "Hi, Theo, it's great to have you on the show."

7:56:25 > 7:56:28Theodore Electron was 13 years old with white hair

7:56:28 > 7:56:29and even whiter teeth.

7:56:29 > 7:56:32"Thank you, Barney," He said. He had a thin, rather reedy voice.

7:56:32 > 7:56:35"It's great to be here." Barney hesitated.

7:56:35 > 7:56:38There was something strange about his guest, but what could it be?

7:56:38 > 7:56:40He turned away and at that moment Theodore reached down

7:56:40 > 7:56:42and pretended to scratch his knee

7:56:42 > 7:56:45but in fact he had opened a secret panel in his leg.

7:56:45 > 7:56:47Inside there was a deadly sci-fi gravity ray,

7:56:47 > 7:56:50which he had just activated, and which would cause the moon to fall

7:56:50 > 7:56:53on the studio in exactly one minute, killing Barney,

7:56:53 > 7:56:58his co-presenter, Lindsey, Radzi, and everyone else.

7:56:58 > 7:57:01CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

7:57:01 > 7:57:02That was unbelievable.

7:57:02 > 7:57:05Barney, pink flying unicorns, what else do you need in a story?

7:57:05 > 7:57:06- It's all there.- It was brilliant.

7:57:17 > 7:57:19Thanks very much, Linds. What a legend that man is.

7:57:19 > 7:57:22I hope that he's still writing stories in 2052

7:57:22 > 7:57:24and as for the flying pink uniform - I want one!

7:57:24 > 7:57:26Did I say "uniform?" Unicorn. You know what I mean.

7:57:26 > 7:57:28This show's been cram-packed

7:57:28 > 7:57:30but I'm afraid it's just about all we've got time for.

7:57:30 > 7:57:33Next week, not only do we have Beardyman but you'll also see

7:57:33 > 7:57:36the next stage of our Sport Relief challenge. This one involves bikes.
