6:33:26 > 6:33:29Barney, that's fine, but I'm only counting 58 people.

6:33:29 > 6:33:31Yeah, where will you find two other people

6:33:31 > 6:33:33- daft enough to do that? - I've got it covered.

6:33:33 > 6:33:39- There's one for you, and one for you. Have fun.- No!

6:33:53 > 6:33:56CHEERING

6:33:56 > 6:34:00- Hello!- Yeah, yeah, yeah! - How are you doing?

6:34:00 > 6:34:02Welcome to live Blue Peter.

6:34:02 > 6:34:05Now, our gunging spectacular is just 23 minutes away.

6:34:05 > 6:34:07So make sure you don't go anywhere

6:34:07 > 6:34:10if you want to see loads of people covered in slop!

6:34:10 > 6:34:14You'll also find out how I got on when I tackled my surfing challenge.

6:34:14 > 6:34:15Did I manage? Did I have what it took?

6:34:15 > 6:34:18- Or did I just do that?- Oh, Barney! - We've got the faith.

6:34:18 > 6:34:21And also find out how Lindsey and I got on in our Tall Ships' Race.

6:34:21 > 6:34:23I love seeing you run. That's funny.

6:34:23 > 6:34:25Right, Radzi, you know we love you,

6:34:25 > 6:34:27but we do not want you to hear what's going on

6:34:27 > 6:34:30for the next part of the show, nor see what's happening.

6:34:30 > 6:34:32- So blindfold, please.- OK.

6:34:32 > 6:34:35- And here's your headphones with some tunes on.- Tunage.

6:34:35 > 6:34:36His favourite song's on there.

6:34:36 > 6:34:39Cos we've got something that's very exciting,

6:34:39 > 6:34:41- but we don't want him to know. - Now...I don't think he can hear us.

6:34:41 > 6:34:4350 years ago,

6:34:43 > 6:34:45Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was first published.

6:34:45 > 6:34:48And of course, it is one of Roald Dahl's most... Stop dancing!

6:34:48 > 6:34:49..most celebrated books.

6:34:49 > 6:34:51And it celebrates the weird and wonderful world

6:34:51 > 6:34:53of Willy Wonka and his chocolate factory,

6:34:53 > 6:34:55and his incredible chocolate concoctions.

6:34:55 > 6:34:58They reckon over 20 million copies have been sold since 1964.

6:34:58 > 6:35:00That's a popular book, isn't it? And look at it!

6:35:00 > 6:35:01It's a beautiful thing.

6:35:01 > 6:35:04The front cover has changed quite a lot over the years

6:35:04 > 6:35:06but fortunately, the inside story remains the same.

6:35:06 > 6:35:10And Willy Wonka's delicious treats sound as delicious as ever.

6:35:10 > 6:35:11And speaking of Willy Wonka,

6:35:11 > 6:35:14someone else who loves creating weird and wonderful chocolate recipes

6:35:14 > 6:35:17is our very own Willy Wonka himself, Will Torrent.

6:35:17 > 6:35:20Hello, Will! Hi!

6:35:20 > 6:35:23Thank you so much for bringing these treats

6:35:23 > 6:35:26- and coming on Blue Peter today. - Absolute pleasure.

6:35:26 > 6:35:28- Now, Will, you're a weird chef.- Thank you.

6:35:28 > 6:35:29You put some strange ingredients

6:35:29 > 6:35:32in what is supposed to be a lovely treat and sweet thing.

6:35:32 > 6:35:34So let's talk about the stuff that you put in chocolate.

6:35:34 > 6:35:38OK, well, one of the most unusual combinations, shall we say,

6:35:38 > 6:35:41was tomato and basil in a chocolate.

6:35:41 > 6:35:43- Like a pizza. - I don't know how I feel about that.

6:35:43 > 6:35:45- Chocolate pizza, no thank you! - I don't know, though,

6:35:45 > 6:35:47kind of works with sweetness. It could work.

6:35:47 > 6:35:50We're going to be putting Radzi to a bit of a taste test today.

6:35:50 > 6:35:51We certainly are!

6:35:51 > 6:35:53So we've got some weird and wonderful chocolates

6:35:53 > 6:35:55that he's going to be trying out.

6:35:55 > 6:35:57- Now, I've chosen one and you've chosen one.- Yeah.

6:35:57 > 6:35:58I have gone for this one, here.

6:35:58 > 6:36:00Now, believe it or not,

6:36:00 > 6:36:02this is strawberry and balsamic vinegar flavoured.

6:36:02 > 6:36:04Why does that go together?

6:36:04 > 6:36:07- Is it good?- The Italians have always had it like that so we thought,

6:36:07 > 6:36:09- "Let's try it in chocolate." - I think it could be good,

6:36:09 > 6:36:11- quite sweet.- I like the sound of it. - What's your choice?

6:36:11 > 6:36:14Mine is more like a pancake you'd get in America.

6:36:14 > 6:36:16- It's maple syrup and bacon. - That sounds delicious.

6:36:16 > 6:36:18Yeah, I'd eat that, I really would.

6:36:18 > 6:36:20So Radzi's going to try both of those, of course,

6:36:20 > 6:36:23but the third one that he's going to try is up to you.

6:36:23 > 6:36:26- What are the options, Will? I'm excited for this.- OK...

6:36:26 > 6:36:30- I can smell it, it's disgusting! - Sardines on toast.

6:36:30 > 6:36:32- Is in this little thing here?- Yeah.

6:36:32 > 6:36:34That's got brown toast on the outside.

6:36:34 > 6:36:37OK, sounds yucky!

6:36:37 > 6:36:40A little bit Christmassy - Brussels sprouts and horseradish.

6:36:40 > 6:36:43- Yes!- Wow, I can't see that working very well either.

6:36:43 > 6:36:45And then finally...

6:36:47 > 6:36:49Wait, so a curry chocolate, then?!

6:36:49 > 6:36:51- A curry chocolate!- OK, so the decision is yours.

6:36:51 > 6:36:54Head online, head to our website...

6:36:57 > 6:36:59Decide which one of these Radzi is going to be trying.

6:36:59 > 6:37:01Now, talk to us about flavour combinations.

6:37:01 > 6:37:03Cos how do you decide what goes together?

6:37:03 > 6:37:06Do you just chuck it in a bowl and hope for the best?

6:37:06 > 6:37:08Sometimes you have to, and with these I have.

6:37:08 > 6:37:10- And with one of them I've been really surprised.- OK.

6:37:10 > 6:37:13But normally, like strawberry and balsamic, or raspberry and mint,

6:37:13 > 6:37:16we know that they go together really well.

6:37:16 > 6:37:18- But it's really important that you have real ingredients.- OK.

6:37:18 > 6:37:21- None of this essence stuff. - Sure, it's the real thing.- All real.

6:37:21 > 6:37:24- There's real sprouts in that. - That's disgusting!- OK.

6:37:24 > 6:37:26Let's talk about what you're making, here.

6:37:26 > 6:37:28You've got melted chocolate and some...is that bacon?

6:37:28 > 6:37:30- I'm going to make your chocolate, here.- Yes!

6:37:30 > 6:37:34Here I've just made some little chocolate spheres

6:37:34 > 6:37:37and I've put in there a maple syrup caramel.

6:37:37 > 6:37:39- Yum, that already sounds good. - So all we need to do...

6:37:39 > 6:37:41I've got all this lovely melted chocolate,

6:37:41 > 6:37:42just melted in a microwave,

6:37:42 > 6:37:46and I'm just going to drag the little chocolate sphere

6:37:46 > 6:37:47through the chocolate.

6:37:47 > 6:37:49It's all been enrobed in that chocolate.

6:37:49 > 6:37:53And then we'll just pop it on to our sheet with bacon.

6:37:53 > 6:37:55That'll set in the fridge.

6:37:55 > 6:37:58It's sweet and salty so I reckon that could work really well.

6:37:58 > 6:38:00- It works for popcorn pretty well. - Good decision.

6:38:00 > 6:38:03Now, you've only got five minutes, so make sure you head online.

6:38:03 > 6:38:05You've got less than five minutes now to get voting.

6:38:05 > 6:38:07www.bbc.co.uk/BluePeter

6:38:07 > 6:38:10The decision is yours and you've got to choose between...

6:38:22 > 6:38:24They all sound weird and wonderful!

6:38:24 > 6:38:27- So the decision is yours. Get voting. - I know which one I'd go for.

6:38:27 > 6:38:29- Will, thank you very much for now. - Absolute pleasure.

6:38:29 > 6:38:31You are a genius, in a strange way!

6:38:31 > 6:38:32I don't know which is worse, actually,

6:38:32 > 6:38:34being gunged or eating gross chocolate.

6:38:34 > 6:38:36Luckily, Radzi gets to do both.

6:38:36 > 6:38:39Let's talk about last summer, shall we? I got set a challenge.

6:38:39 > 6:38:41It involves a surfboard and some water and me.

6:38:41 > 6:38:44Surfboard and water OK, till I tried to stand up!

6:38:47 > 6:38:50'When you think surfing, you probably think of Australia,

6:38:50 > 6:38:52'Hawaii, or even the south coast of the UK.

6:38:54 > 6:38:57You probably don't think of here - the River Severn.

6:38:57 > 6:39:01But every few months, a tidal surge passes along the river,

6:39:01 > 6:39:02creating huge waves,

6:39:02 > 6:39:05and they call that the Severn bore.

6:39:08 > 6:39:09And would you believe it,

6:39:09 > 6:39:12tomorrow morning a bore is going to happen right here.

6:39:14 > 6:39:19Yeah, you've guessed it, my challenge is to surf it.

6:39:19 > 6:39:20It's not going to be easy.

6:39:20 > 6:39:22So a month ago, to get myself ready,

6:39:22 > 6:39:24I went for a crash course in surfing.

6:39:24 > 6:39:25Literally!

6:39:28 > 6:39:30Welcome to Croyde Beach in Devon.

6:39:30 > 6:39:32That guy you can see out there is Andrew Cotton,

6:39:32 > 6:39:34one of the world's top surfers.

6:39:34 > 6:39:37Now, you might think that those waves look pretty big today.

6:39:37 > 6:39:40Well, compared to what he's used to, they're nothing.

6:39:40 > 6:39:42Andrew is a big wave surfer.

6:39:42 > 6:39:45And when I say big, I really mean it.

6:39:45 > 6:39:48Yeah, that's him. That tiny little speck on that board, that's him.

6:39:48 > 6:39:51He's surfed waves 25 metres high.

6:39:51 > 6:39:54That's about three times the height of the average house.

6:39:54 > 6:39:58So he's the man who is hopefully going to teach me how to surf.

6:39:58 > 6:39:59Lie on the board then, Barney.

6:39:59 > 6:40:03'And the best place to start is not in the water.

6:40:03 > 6:40:04'It's actually on the sand.'

6:40:04 > 6:40:07OK, you're in a perfect position.

6:40:07 > 6:40:08Not too far forward.

6:40:08 > 6:40:10Hands here, yeah?

6:40:10 > 6:40:12Just bring up through, knees bent through.

6:40:12 > 6:40:15Then your foot. OK?

6:40:16 > 6:40:18Then you're surfing.

6:40:18 > 6:40:20Yeah, legs down, crouched a little bit, centre of gravity,

6:40:20 > 6:40:23- centre of the board. - 'Well, that sounds easy enough.

6:40:23 > 6:40:26'Let's see what it's like when we try that at sea.'

6:40:26 > 6:40:28What are the chances of me standing up today?

6:40:28 > 6:40:29Someone like yourself...

6:40:29 > 6:40:32- You're going to stand up. - You reckon?

6:40:32 > 6:40:34You've been taught by the best as well!

6:40:34 > 6:40:36'Great, bring on the waves.'

6:40:36 > 6:40:38Yeah, perfect.

6:40:43 > 6:40:46'This really is a lot harder than it looks.'

6:40:56 > 6:40:57It's actually really hard.

6:40:57 > 6:40:59Of course it's hard. It's something brand-new.

6:40:59 > 6:41:02But you realise quite quickly what you're doing wrong,

6:41:02 > 6:41:04which is a good thing.

6:41:04 > 6:41:07I think the only thing that'll be against me is how tired I get.

6:41:07 > 6:41:09You progress a little bit and hopefully

6:41:09 > 6:41:11- a few more goes? - All right.

6:41:11 > 6:41:13This shot - on my knees this time round.

6:41:13 > 6:41:14Are you ready for this?

6:41:14 > 6:41:17'Well, confidence is half the battle, surely!'

6:41:21 > 6:41:22'Oh, nearly!

6:41:22 > 6:41:25'Yeah, OK, I need a bit more practice.'

6:41:29 > 6:41:31'Well, I've just about mastered surfing on my knees.

6:41:31 > 6:41:34'All I need to do now is to stand up.

6:41:34 > 6:41:35'How hard can that be?'

6:41:39 > 6:41:42'OK, yeah, it's pretty difficult!'

6:41:54 > 6:41:57'I'm just about getting there.

6:41:57 > 6:41:58'This is the one!'

6:42:01 > 6:42:03'Yeah, look at that!

6:42:03 > 6:42:06'I've stayed on longer than Andrew, even if it is only by a second!'

6:42:10 > 6:42:12'But my training doesn't end here.

6:42:12 > 6:42:15'I'm off to meet some young surfers from a top local surf club

6:42:15 > 6:42:17'to try and pick up some advice.'

6:42:17 > 6:42:18So just chuck us three top tips -

6:42:18 > 6:42:20things to remember when I'm on the board.

6:42:20 > 6:42:22Stay roughly in the middle of your board.

6:42:22 > 6:42:24Try not to go too far forward or too far back.

6:42:24 > 6:42:26Get as many waves as you can.

6:42:26 > 6:42:29Cover your head, like that, when you fall off.

6:42:29 > 6:42:30But I guess the main thing is to get out there

6:42:30 > 6:42:33- and have a bit of fun? - Yeah, that's it.- Yeah.

6:42:33 > 6:42:35'Right then, let's see what they think of my surf skills.'

6:42:46 > 6:42:47Any tips you can give me?

6:42:47 > 6:42:50Yeah, when you're surfing, look where you're going,

6:42:50 > 6:42:53not at your feet, so then your body will take you where you want to go.

6:42:53 > 6:42:54Wherever your head's going

6:42:54 > 6:42:56is practically where your board is going to go.

6:42:56 > 6:42:58Move forward on the board a couple of inches,

6:42:58 > 6:43:00cos your centre of gravity is too far back,

6:43:00 > 6:43:02so it's pulling the board upwards a bit,

6:43:02 > 6:43:04so the wave just goes underneath you.

6:43:04 > 6:43:06So what do you reckon? Have I got much of a chance?

6:43:06 > 6:43:07ALL: Yeah.

6:43:07 > 6:43:10If I can stay on, that's what it's all about!

6:43:10 > 6:43:12It's an inspiration to watch you doing what you do.

6:43:12 > 6:43:14You're amazing. Thank you so much.

6:43:14 > 6:43:16Well, I couldn't have had better training.

6:43:16 > 6:43:19All that's left now is to bring on the bore.

6:43:19 > 6:43:21That looks big, that looks really big.

6:43:22 > 6:43:26Rookie mistake. That was day one of surfing.

6:43:26 > 6:43:28I'm quite nervous watching that back

6:43:28 > 6:43:30cos I remember how it felt to be there.

6:43:30 > 6:43:33So much fun and I was on that beach for eight hours, just so you know.

6:43:33 > 6:43:35Now, if you can't wait till next week to watch some more stuff

6:43:35 > 6:43:38and you want to see me fall off a surfboard a bit more, head online.

6:43:38 > 6:43:40There's a few clips on there.

6:43:40 > 6:43:43Now, though, if you've been voting for Radzi's chocolate challenge,

6:43:43 > 6:43:46stop it. You can't vote any more.

6:43:46 > 6:43:48The lines are now officially closed!

6:43:48 > 6:43:51And the lights have changed colour. Oh, that's pretty, Lee, thanks.

6:43:51 > 6:43:55That officially means it's time for Radzi's chocolate challenge.

6:43:55 > 6:43:57- Hurry up, hurry up, I'm really excited.- Sorry!

6:43:57 > 6:43:59Now, while Radzi's been listening to his music and chilling out,

6:43:59 > 6:44:01he still has no idea what's going on,

6:44:01 > 6:44:04you've been at home voting, so thank you very much.

6:44:04 > 6:44:06And I can now reveal, I'm so excited,

6:44:06 > 6:44:08that the chocolate with the most votes

6:44:08 > 6:44:11and the one that Radzi's going to have to eat in a minute is...

6:44:13 > 6:44:16It's Brussels sprouts and horseradish!

6:44:16 > 6:44:19- Disgusting!- I'm so pleased. - Well, shall we get him ready?

6:44:19 > 6:44:21Yeah, let's do it.

6:44:21 > 6:44:23Mate, you're back in the land of the living.

6:44:23 > 6:44:24- I'm back, OK.- How are you doing?

6:44:24 > 6:44:27Walk this way because we have a treat for you.

6:44:27 > 6:44:31- A "treat"!- Now, you're going to taste three chocolates today.

6:44:31 > 6:44:34The first was selected by myself, I've been quite nice.

6:44:34 > 6:44:37- Barney's been quite nice as well. - I think I have.

6:44:37 > 6:44:38And the third selection is by our viewers.

6:44:38 > 6:44:40They've been voting online.

6:44:40 > 6:44:42I'm getting a whiff of something already.

6:44:42 > 6:44:45Are you getting a little sniff of it? Right, this is the first one, OK?

6:44:45 > 6:44:48So we need you to taste it and let us know what you think is in there.

6:44:48 > 6:44:51- That looks quite nice. - Quite pretty, isn't it?

6:44:51 > 6:44:53He's going for it, the whole thing's gone in.

6:44:53 > 6:44:56- That's not very nice. - Oh, really?- That's a shame.

6:44:56 > 6:44:57What do you think's in there?

6:44:57 > 6:44:59- What can you taste? - It tastes like vinegar.

6:44:59 > 6:45:03- Vinegar!- It tastes like vinegar and raspberry...?

6:45:03 > 6:45:05You've gone for raspberry and vinegar? Not bad!

6:45:05 > 6:45:07It's actually strawberry and balsamic vinegar.

6:45:07 > 6:45:11- I'm impressed, Radzi. Well done. - Is this mine?- Yes, this one.

6:45:11 > 6:45:14OK, Radzi, this is the one that I picked for you. Have a go.

6:45:14 > 6:45:16- I normally like...- This one, please. - This is a stitch up.

6:45:16 > 6:45:19- I normally like chocolate. - No, you'll like it.

6:45:19 > 6:45:23- He's put the whole thing in again. - Its bacon.- Definitely bacon?

6:45:23 > 6:45:25- What else?- Bacon and?

6:45:25 > 6:45:28Ooh, something nice! Something like honey! Something...

6:46:00 > 6:46:03- Go one, chuck it down. Swallow it! - What do you think is in there, Radzi?

6:46:03 > 6:46:06Oh, that's cheese and chive and...

6:46:06 > 6:46:09There's herbs and cheese in that.

6:46:09 > 6:46:11Erm... Oh, he is actually... Oh, OK!

6:46:11 > 6:46:14- That was Brussels sprouts and horseradish.- Sorry about that!

6:46:14 > 6:46:16- But a round of applause for Radzi.- Well done!

6:46:16 > 6:46:18- APPLAUSE - Congratulations.

6:46:22 > 6:46:25And it's not the only way you've been getting in touch with us.

6:46:25 > 6:46:28Let's head over to the big badge wall.

6:46:28 > 6:46:30- There's loads of your post here. - Take a look at this.

6:46:30 > 6:46:31Olivia drew this to celebrate

6:46:31 > 6:46:34the 50th anniversary of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

6:46:34 > 6:46:36Thank you very much, we love it.

6:46:36 > 6:46:38Now, of course, we give out purple badges

6:46:38 > 6:46:41to anyone who gets in touch and reviews an episode of Blue Peter.

6:46:41 > 6:46:42And someone who's done that,

6:46:42 > 6:46:45and has really deserved themselves the badge, is Jake, who is 12.

6:46:45 > 6:46:46Have a look at this.

6:46:46 > 6:46:49He's done an illustrations booklet of all the different episodes.

6:46:49 > 6:46:51We've got Barney, with Harriet's Army.

6:46:51 > 6:46:53Ed Sheeran, it's all in there.

6:46:53 > 6:46:54So, Jake, massive well done.

6:46:54 > 6:46:56You've earned yourself a purple badge, my friend.

6:46:56 > 6:46:59We love it when you're creative and there are lots of ways you can be.

6:46:59 > 6:47:02Let's not forget Tim Peake's mission patch competition.

6:47:02 > 6:47:03It's absolutely out of this world.

6:47:03 > 6:47:07You can be creative...and you want to see what the prize is!

6:47:08 > 6:47:12Blue Peter is giving you the chance to design the personal mission patch

6:47:12 > 6:47:15for British astronaut Tim Peake.

6:47:16 > 6:47:19Tim could be wearing your design on his space suit

6:47:19 > 6:47:22on his mission to the International Space Station next year.

6:47:22 > 6:47:26That's right, your mission patch could actually go into space.

6:47:26 > 6:47:28And the lucky winner will meet Tim himself,

6:47:28 > 6:47:30before he embarks on his journey.

6:47:30 > 6:47:32But you've not got long left to apply.

6:47:32 > 6:47:35The closing date is Friday 26th September.

6:47:35 > 6:47:39Head to the Blue Peter website for all the details you need.

6:47:41 > 6:47:44Calling all gunge friends!

6:47:44 > 6:47:46It is now only eight minutes

6:47:46 > 6:47:48until we attempt to break a brand-new world record.

6:47:48 > 6:47:50- You do not want to miss it. - You don't.

6:47:50 > 6:47:53But now, time to find out how Radzi and I got on

6:47:53 > 6:47:55when we took to the seas for our Tall Ships' Race.

6:47:55 > 6:48:00Now, we were in a vessel that weighs the same as 178 double-decker buses.

6:48:00 > 6:48:03It really was a massive challenge.

6:48:05 > 6:48:07We've set off on our very own voyage.

6:48:07 > 6:48:10HE SHOUTS

6:48:10 > 6:48:12Radzi and I are joining a training crew

6:48:12 > 6:48:15taking part in this year's Tall Ships' Race.

6:48:15 > 6:48:17We're competing against another 40 vessels

6:48:17 > 6:48:19sailing from Falmouth to the Isle of Wight

6:48:19 > 6:48:22on one of the largest tall ships in the world,

6:48:22 > 6:48:23the Dar Mlodziezy.

6:48:27 > 6:48:29The crew is divided into three watch teams

6:48:29 > 6:48:32who are each responsible for eight hours of duty.

6:48:32 > 6:48:35And those eight hours are divided into two shifts of four hours.

6:48:35 > 6:48:37Now, each of the crew and all of the trainees here

6:48:37 > 6:48:41are looked after by an officer, a watch leader and a boatswain.

6:48:41 > 6:48:43And that's the name given to the senior crewman.

6:48:43 > 6:48:45Now, it's eight in the evening at the moment

6:48:45 > 6:48:47and we're about to go on our first ever watch.

6:48:47 > 6:48:51And I think it's fair to say we are not sure what to expect here.

6:48:51 > 6:48:53So should we go and find out what we're actually doing?

6:48:53 > 6:48:55Let's do it. Let's go find Adam.

6:48:55 > 6:48:58This is the fore-mast, main-mast and mizzen-mast.

6:48:58 > 6:49:01'We start by learning more about the ship

6:49:01 > 6:49:03'and the different sails used to keep it moving.'

6:49:03 > 6:49:05Of course, this is a race.

6:49:05 > 6:49:08What makes a winning ship a winning ship?

6:49:15 > 6:49:18So it seems we might need to rely on strategy to win this race.

6:49:18 > 6:49:22Back out on deck all is quiet and that is a big disappointment

6:49:22 > 6:49:24because it means we can't get properly stuck in

6:49:24 > 6:49:27until the wind picks up or changes direction.

6:49:27 > 6:49:29The calm weather does mean we have a chance to learn about

6:49:29 > 6:49:32the jobs the trainees do, starting with lookout.

6:49:32 > 6:49:35This involves being responsible for observing the sea,

6:49:35 > 6:49:38making sure you keep a lookout for land, other ships

6:49:38 > 6:49:39and any hazards.

6:49:39 > 6:49:42You can see the light here, just over there.

6:49:42 > 6:49:45And now you can go to the officer and tell him

6:49:45 > 6:49:50that you can see one white light on starboard side. OK?

6:49:50 > 6:49:52What is that white light? Is it a boat?

6:49:52 > 6:49:54I think it is a ship, but I don't...

6:49:54 > 6:49:57I am not sure. Yes? OK?

6:49:57 > 6:50:00- So there's always someone on watch, all through the night?- All the time.

6:50:00 > 6:50:01So, three in the morning,

6:50:01 > 6:50:03there'll be someone here looking for other objects?

6:50:03 > 6:50:06One guy stands there for four hours and watches.

6:50:09 > 6:50:12The next day, we're up early to start our second watch.

6:50:12 > 6:50:16There's still very little wind so this morning's duty is...cleaning.

6:50:18 > 6:50:22What's becomes so apparent here is that no matter what the weather,

6:50:22 > 6:50:25if we can't do what we should be doing,

6:50:25 > 6:50:27they'll find work for you

6:50:27 > 6:50:30to make sure that this ship is always working as well as it can be,

6:50:30 > 6:50:33even at that just means being as clean as it can be.

6:50:35 > 6:50:37Oh!

6:50:38 > 6:50:41So I managed to break the mop. I'm sorry!

6:50:44 > 6:50:46Oh, no, he's heard that I broke...

6:50:46 > 6:50:49- Yeah, I broke it.- You!

6:50:49 > 6:50:52THE MEN GIGGLE

6:50:52 > 6:50:54Oops.

6:50:56 > 6:50:58- What's his job?- He's the boss.

6:50:58 > 6:51:01- He's the boss?- Boss, yeah. - Good to know!

6:51:06 > 6:51:09During the race, the engines of this ship aren't used at all.

6:51:09 > 6:51:12Instead, it's propelled through the water using only the sails,

6:51:12 > 6:51:14all 26 of them.

6:51:14 > 6:51:16On this tall ship, we have three masts.

6:51:16 > 6:51:18The fore, the main, and the mizzen-mast.

6:51:18 > 6:51:21And because our watch team is responsible for it,

6:51:21 > 6:51:22that just behind us,

6:51:22 > 6:51:24we're going to get the chance to climb it.

6:51:27 > 6:51:29I am nervous about this, Radz.

6:51:29 > 6:51:31I'm not great with heights but I'll give it a go.

6:51:31 > 6:51:34Safety harnesses are on, Linds, there's no going back.

6:51:34 > 6:51:35Let's go!

6:51:38 > 6:51:39Come on, Linds.

6:51:41 > 6:51:43Go, Radzi, hurry up!

6:51:43 > 6:51:44As scary as this may seem for us,

6:51:44 > 6:51:47trainees and crew members have to climb these masts

6:51:47 > 6:51:50around the clock to tie up the sails or repair them.

6:51:53 > 6:51:54Go on, Linds.

6:51:54 > 6:51:57- Yes!- Yeah!

6:51:57 > 6:52:00- We made it.- How do we get down?!

6:52:02 > 6:52:04Despite a lack of wind in our sails,

6:52:04 > 6:52:06the Dar Mlodziezy is currently in second place

6:52:06 > 6:52:08and not far from the finish line.

6:52:08 > 6:52:11Tonight's watch could be our last.

6:52:11 > 6:52:13Time for some sleep.

6:52:13 > 6:52:15Or so we thought.

6:52:15 > 6:52:18HORN BLASTS

6:52:18 > 6:52:20All of a sudden, all trainees get called to the deck

6:52:20 > 6:52:22and then we're told...

6:52:22 > 6:52:24We've crossed the finish line!

6:52:25 > 6:52:27There's just time for a quick pat on the back

6:52:27 > 6:52:29before the work continues.

6:52:29 > 6:52:31We now need to stop the ship.

6:52:31 > 6:52:34So it's down with the anchor and away with the sails.

6:52:34 > 6:52:38This is our moment to work with the other trainees as a team.

6:52:38 > 6:52:41The race may be over, but there's still a lot to get done.

6:52:47 > 6:52:49These guys are so good. They know exactly what they're doing,

6:52:49 > 6:52:52- where they're meant to be. - It's terrifying, really scary.

6:52:52 > 6:52:54We're just grabbing the rope and helping where we can.

6:52:56 > 6:53:00We've worked around the clock to keep this vessel shipshape,

6:53:00 > 6:53:01moving and in the race.

6:53:03 > 6:53:05But was it all worth it?

6:53:11 > 6:53:13- CHEERING - And do you know what?

6:53:13 > 6:53:17It was worth it because we won the race!

6:53:17 > 6:53:18- First place!- Congratulations.

6:53:18 > 6:53:22Thanks so much to everyone on that ship. The team were just fantastic.

6:53:22 > 6:53:24And you know what? We had so much fun

6:53:24 > 6:53:27and someone who spotted us having fun was Ben from East Sussex.

6:53:27 > 6:53:30He sent in these photos of the Dar Mlodziezy, the ship we were on.

6:53:30 > 6:53:33You can even see the Blue Peter flag, there, thank you.

6:53:33 > 6:53:35You wanted to know what we were doing, that is your answer.

6:53:35 > 6:53:38Great photos, by the way. Lots of things to celebrate today,

6:53:38 > 6:53:41including the Guinness World Records 60th birthday this year.

6:53:41 > 6:53:44Over those years Blue Peter has attempted, set and broken

6:53:44 > 6:53:45a few records itself.

6:53:47 > 6:53:51This year, Guinness World Records celebrate their 60th anniversary.

6:53:51 > 6:53:54That's 60 years of some of the weirdest

6:53:54 > 6:53:56and wackiest records on the planet.

6:53:56 > 6:54:00From huge hamburgers and handbrake turns

6:54:00 > 6:54:03to the extremely tall and the very short.

6:54:03 > 6:54:07Here at Blue Peter, we've done our fair share of record breaking, too.

6:54:07 > 6:54:12we've invited the quickest, toughest and springiest experts into studio

6:54:12 > 6:54:14to attempt some amazing feats.

6:54:14 > 6:54:17And us Blue Peter presenters haven't been afraid

6:54:17 > 6:54:19of getting in on the act, too.

6:54:19 > 6:54:20Yes, we've done it!

6:54:20 > 6:54:23Another world record, here in the Blue Peter studio!

6:54:23 > 6:54:27John Noakes and Janet Ellis both leapt into the record books

6:54:27 > 6:54:29and since then we've pinned badges,

6:54:29 > 6:54:31tossed pancakes,

6:54:31 > 6:54:32pull crackers,

6:54:32 > 6:54:33peeled lemons

6:54:33 > 6:54:35and hula-hooped against the clock.

6:54:35 > 6:54:37And our very own Helen Skelton

6:54:37 > 6:54:40broke the record for the longest solo journey by kayak,

6:54:40 > 6:54:44after she travelled a massive 2,010 miles down the Amazon.

6:54:44 > 6:54:47So from one institution to another, happy birthday.

6:54:47 > 6:54:49APPLAUSE

6:54:49 > 6:54:52And let's keep the round of applause going

6:54:52 > 6:54:54- for Craig Glenday, in the studio. - CHEERING

6:54:54 > 6:54:56So, the editor in chief of Guinness World Records.

6:54:56 > 6:54:58You've seen your fair share of records!

6:54:58 > 6:55:00What's been your favourite moment on Blue Peter?

6:55:00 > 6:55:04Probably has to be the longest line of human mattress dominoes,

6:55:04 > 6:55:06back in 2009.

6:55:06 > 6:55:08You guys set the record with 100 people.

6:55:08 > 6:55:10Well, you broke the record with 100.

6:55:10 > 6:55:12It's been broken a few times since, it has to be said.

6:55:12 > 6:55:14- But the cool thing is you saw it here first!- Quite right.

6:55:14 > 6:55:16That's what all about, the BP benchmark.

6:55:16 > 6:55:18Now, we will try to set a world record very soon,

6:55:18 > 6:55:21but we don't need to do anything to already have one, apparently.

6:55:21 > 6:55:23- Can you confirm this? - I can confirm this.

6:55:23 > 6:55:27Yes, this is our 60th anniversary, and we've created this for you.

6:55:27 > 6:55:28This is to acknowledge that Blue Peter

6:55:28 > 6:55:31is the longest running children's magazine show in history!

6:55:31 > 6:55:34- Amazing. - It's been going since 1958,

6:55:34 > 6:55:36- so that's amazing. Well done. - Thank you.

6:55:36 > 6:55:38Well, I'm very happy to accept this on behalf the show,

6:55:38 > 6:55:41but we could do with two of these, today, if that's all right, Craig.

6:55:41 > 6:55:44So let's talk through what we're trying to achieve.

6:55:44 > 6:55:47You're about to attempt the official Guinness World Records title

6:55:47 > 6:55:49for the most people gunged in three minutes.

6:55:49 > 6:55:51OK, it sounds like quite a difficult challenge

6:55:51 > 6:55:54- but I think we're up for it. Can we do it, guys?- ALL: Yeah!

6:55:54 > 6:55:55We've got experts on hand.

6:55:55 > 6:55:56We've got Lindsey Russell

6:55:56 > 6:55:58and of course our very own resident gungee, Radzi.

6:55:58 > 6:55:59How's it going out there?

6:55:59 > 6:56:01It couldn't be going much better.

6:56:01 > 6:56:04Now, all 60 gungees couldn't possibly fit in the studio

6:56:04 > 6:56:07so we've got them lined up, dragged them out of the BBC offices.

6:56:07 > 6:56:10Gungees, are you ready?

6:56:10 > 6:56:13- THEY CHEER - That's what I'm talking about!

6:56:13 > 6:56:16Now, amongst the gungees are a few very famous faces.

6:56:16 > 6:56:19- From CBBC, Katie Thistleton. How are you feeling?- I'm excited.

6:56:19 > 6:56:20I really want to break a world record,

6:56:20 > 6:56:22but I'm worried about the hair!

6:56:22 > 6:56:24I think you'll suit green hair. Good luck!

6:56:24 > 6:56:28And if we go this way, we can see Jenny from Newsround, she's here.

6:56:28 > 6:56:30We've got Jana from Wolfblood, cannot wait for this season!

6:56:30 > 6:56:33- Carry on. Hello, I almost passed you! How are you doing?- Hello!

6:56:33 > 6:56:35No, you're on air in about four minutes,

6:56:35 > 6:56:38- next door in the CBBC office. - About three minutes, actually.

6:56:38 > 6:56:41But you know what? I hope we beat it today and I'm here to participate.

6:56:41 > 6:56:43Good, we cannot wait. And if we go this way,

6:56:43 > 6:56:46this is where all the gungees are going to be coming,

6:56:46 > 6:56:48entering what we like to call our gunge arena.

6:56:48 > 6:56:50- Isn't that right, Radz? - The Gunge Arena of Destiny.

6:56:50 > 6:56:52X marks the spot. They will stand here

6:56:52 > 6:56:54and then gunge will be poured on them

6:56:54 > 6:56:56by chief gunger Mr Barney Harwood.

6:56:56 > 6:56:58There's a title I've been after for a few years.

6:56:58 > 6:57:01It's very simple. All I've got to do is pour gunge on the head.

6:57:01 > 6:57:02It's all down to me. Fingers crossed!

6:57:02 > 6:57:05But we can't be official and have a world record attempt

6:57:05 > 6:57:08without somebody officially amazing. Ben Shires is in the studio!

6:57:08 > 6:57:10- CHEERING - Thanks, Barney,

6:57:10 > 6:57:11I'm delighted to be here...

6:57:11 > 6:57:13Delighted to be here, away from the splash zone,

6:57:13 > 6:57:15commenting on this record attempt.

6:57:15 > 6:57:17Are we ready to break a record?

6:57:17 > 6:57:19- CHEERING - Of course we are. Craig,

6:57:19 > 6:57:20- count us in.- Are you ready?- Ready.

6:57:20 > 6:57:23Three, two, one, go!

6:57:23 > 6:57:26Radzi's in first. Oh, it's a valiant effort!

6:57:26 > 6:57:28And there goes the second gungee.

6:57:28 > 6:57:30It's really cracking on.

6:57:30 > 6:57:32Barney, of course, doing the gunging.

6:57:32 > 6:57:35A man who looks almost too pleased to be doing it

6:57:35 > 6:57:37and not getting gunged himself.
