0:12:54 > 0:12:55It's time for...

0:12:55 > 0:12:57Today's Big Question!

0:12:57 > 0:13:01Today we're asking, why did the dinosaurs become extinct?

0:13:01 > 0:13:05Oh, I love dinosaurs. They make me feel so young.

0:13:05 > 0:13:07Long before humans ever appeared,

0:13:07 > 0:13:12dinosaurs roamed the Earth for over 160 million years.

0:13:12 > 0:13:15In order to survive, they developed different characteristics

0:13:15 > 0:13:17to best suit the environment they lived in.

0:13:17 > 0:13:20Fierce teeth for hunting, long necks for feeding,

0:13:20 > 0:13:21tough armour for protection.

0:13:21 > 0:13:24Skinny legs for dancing, squinty eyes for lying,

0:13:24 > 0:13:26bonny bellies for tickling.

0:13:27 > 0:13:30Professor, what have I told you before about making up science?

0:13:30 > 0:13:33Erm, was it to stop making up science?

0:13:33 > 0:13:36Oh, sorry, Doctor.

0:13:36 > 0:13:38I think it's time for a short break.

0:13:40 > 0:13:41And we're clear!

0:13:41 > 0:13:43Well, how's the egg doing?

0:13:43 > 0:13:46Erm, I think there's something you two should see.

0:13:51 > 0:13:53BIRD SQUAWKS "COLIN"

0:13:53 > 0:13:56Ahhhh.

0:13:56 > 0:13:59- Oh! It said my name!- Ha!

0:13:59 > 0:14:02It thinks you're its mammy, that's brilliant.

0:14:02 > 0:14:05- Ouch!- Uh-oh, erm, guys...

0:14:06 > 0:14:08Here comes another one.

0:14:09 > 0:14:12McCork, what have you done?!

0:14:12 > 0:14:14Come on, let's get out of here.

0:14:14 > 0:14:16Oh, crumpets! Positions, everyone!

0:14:18 > 0:14:19Welcome back, everyone.

0:14:19 > 0:14:22I think it's time we got straight to the bottom of this one.

0:14:22 > 0:14:24Today's Big Answer!

0:14:24 > 0:14:28So, Dr Knowles, why did the dinosaurs become extinct?

0:14:28 > 0:14:29There are several theories,

0:14:29 > 0:14:33but most scientists agree that it was probably triggered by a large

0:14:33 > 0:14:37asteroid that struck the Earth about 65 million years ago.

0:14:38 > 0:14:40Those that survived the initial impact

0:14:40 > 0:14:43faced a dramatic change in the Earth's climate -

0:14:43 > 0:14:44an impact winter -

0:14:44 > 0:14:47which may have lasted for thousands of years.

0:14:47 > 0:14:49Most dinosaurs just weren't able to cope

0:14:49 > 0:14:52with such a rapid change in their environment.

0:14:52 > 0:14:56That's so sad, but what do you mean "most" dinosaurs?

0:14:56 > 0:14:59Well, numerous fossil findings have confirmed that a group of

0:14:59 > 0:15:02dinosaurs known as theropods actually had feathers.

0:15:02 > 0:15:05- Feathers? On a dinosaur, are you serious?- Yeah.

0:15:05 > 0:15:09Most scientist believed that during this time, certain smaller dinosaurs

0:15:09 > 0:15:12were evolving into early forms of the birds we see today.

0:15:12 > 0:15:15Well, it's good to know I'm not the only dinosaur left around the place.

0:15:15 > 0:15:17See you next time, folks.

0:15:19 > 0:15:21You know, Dr Knowles, you're probably right.

0:15:21 > 0:15:23I'd say I shouldn't have brought that egg in at all.

0:15:23 > 0:15:25Really? You reckon?

0:15:25 > 0:15:28Anyway, Colin seems to have the whole thing under control.

0:15:28 > 0:15:29Don't you, Colin?

0:15:29 > 0:15:31BIRDS SQUAWK "COLIN"

0:15:35 > 0:15:39- He's a natural.- Yeah. You look like you're in a zoo, Colin.

0:15:39 > 0:15:44Believe me, McCork, this place feels like a zoo every single day.
