0:12:44 > 0:12:48- Hi, folks. Welcome to Brain Freeze! - It's time to reveal...
0:12:51 > 0:12:55- Today we're asking where do clouds come from?- Clowns?
0:12:55 > 0:12:59- I'm sure everyone knows they come from the circus!- Not clowns, clouds!
0:12:59 > 0:13:01Oh, whoo!
0:13:01 > 0:13:03As we all know, water occurs as a liquid and a solid,
0:13:03 > 0:13:07- but it also occurs as a gas called water vapour.- That's news to me.
0:13:07 > 0:13:10You see, water floats around us
0:13:10 > 0:13:13all the time, in the form of tiny gas particles.
0:13:13 > 0:13:15As the sun heats water on the earth,
0:13:15 > 0:13:19these particles rise up in a process known as evaporation.
0:13:19 > 0:13:20Up, up and away!
0:13:20 > 0:13:25As they rise up, they bump into other small particles called aerosols.
0:13:25 > 0:13:27Aerosols are tiny little bits of dust and salt
0:13:27 > 0:13:30and other stuff floating around in the air.
0:13:30 > 0:13:33As the air gets cooler, water vapour sticks to the aerosols,
0:13:33 > 0:13:34forming droplets,
0:13:34 > 0:13:37and these droplets eventually come together to form clouds.
0:13:37 > 0:13:40- This is called condensation.- Heh!
0:13:40 > 0:13:43And there was me thinking they were made of candyfloss!
0:13:43 > 0:13:45We'll be right back after this break.

0:14:18 > 0:14:21Welcome back, Brain Freezers. So, Dr Knowles, condensation.
0:14:21 > 0:14:23Where were we?
0:14:23 > 0:14:25Well, as the air continues to rise and cool,
0:14:25 > 0:14:27clouds begin to merge and grow,
0:14:27 > 0:14:30and as the droplets within the clouds start to stick together,
0:14:30 > 0:14:33they become too heavy to resist the pull of gravity,
0:14:33 > 0:14:35and fall to Earth as precipitation.
0:14:35 > 0:14:38- Precipi-what now?- Precipitation.
0:14:38 > 0:14:42- Snow, sleet or rain!- We know all about rain, don't we, Colin?
0:14:42 > 0:14:45SAD PIANO TUNE, THUNDER
0:14:45 > 0:14:48This water then collects in oceans, rivers and lakes,
0:14:48 > 0:14:54ready to start the process all over again. We call this the water cycle.
0:14:54 > 0:14:55So, hang on.
0:14:55 > 0:14:58You're saying it's the same water going around and around and around?
0:14:58 > 0:15:00Exactly!
0:15:00 > 0:15:03In fact, the water in your glass could be the same water that
0:15:03 > 0:15:06a dinosaur drank millions of years ago!

0:15:16 > 0:15:21And they are not, I repeat, not made of candyfloss! See you next time!
