0:00:49 > 0:00:50That is what we do.

0:00:50 > 0:00:54Everything has to come together for the party on Friday afternoon,

0:00:54 > 0:00:57which will be broadcast live on CBBC.

0:00:57 > 0:01:02But, first, team one need to get cracking with party HQ itself -

0:01:02 > 0:01:06this tired old building in the park where the event will be held.

0:01:06 > 0:01:08There's a stuffed bird in the shower!

0:01:08 > 0:01:10They'll need to have a huge clear-out...

0:01:10 > 0:01:12I want all this stuff to move in the storeroom.

0:01:12 > 0:01:16..completely revamp the place, and they're racing against the clock.

0:01:16 > 0:01:18So let's get cracking, guys.

0:01:18 > 0:01:22This is CBBC's Olympic Games Challenge.

0:01:24 > 0:01:27In just four days, this town centre park

0:01:27 > 0:01:32is going to become a giant party venue for 1,000 local people.

0:01:32 > 0:01:35Have these kids got what it takes to turn it into party HQ

0:01:35 > 0:01:38in time for the live event on Friday?

0:01:38 > 0:01:41It's going to be a massive challenge.

0:01:41 > 0:01:44First up, 12-year-old cricket-mad Aleem.

0:01:44 > 0:01:46Yes!

0:01:46 > 0:01:48I don't have much experience doing decorating stuff

0:01:48 > 0:01:50but I think I'm going to give it 100%.

0:01:50 > 0:01:52I want to rise up to the challenge.

0:01:52 > 0:01:56Next, 12-year-old dance-loving Lauren.

0:01:56 > 0:01:59I've got unique and interesting ideas

0:01:59 > 0:02:01and if I see something in my head,

0:02:01 > 0:02:05it needs to be done correct. And I like taking charge as well.

0:02:06 > 0:02:10And finally passionate creative 11-year-old Lily.

0:02:10 > 0:02:14I think I'll be the perfect person to redesign the pavilion

0:02:14 > 0:02:17because I could add a sense of style

0:02:17 > 0:02:20in the walls, the colours, and the furniture.

0:02:20 > 0:02:24Their determination to transform the pavilion really matters.

0:02:24 > 0:02:26It used to be a place where kids hung out,

0:02:26 > 0:02:30but council budget cuts mean there is now less money around

0:02:30 > 0:02:32so it's fallen into disrepair.

0:02:32 > 0:02:35Middlesbrough was once famous across the world

0:02:35 > 0:02:37as a producer of iron and steel.

0:02:37 > 0:02:40Shipbuilding and chemical factories followed,

0:02:40 > 0:02:43but, in the past 30 years, many of these industries have dried up.

0:02:43 > 0:02:46On top of that, there's less money around

0:02:46 > 0:02:48to keep places like this open for kids to use.

0:02:48 > 0:02:52Aleem, Lily and Lauren hope that transforming this place

0:02:52 > 0:02:55for their Olympic celebration will give it a new lease of life

0:02:55 > 0:02:59and make it a place their mates can use for years to come.

0:02:59 > 0:03:02After we finish, I want people to take care of it

0:03:02 > 0:03:04and know we've put hard work into it

0:03:04 > 0:03:06to give it the good boost that it needs.

0:03:06 > 0:03:08We want the full community coming to the pavilion.

0:03:08 > 0:03:10Everyone can use it. That's what we're here for.

0:03:10 > 0:03:14If you travel to big cities and you say Middlesbrough,

0:03:14 > 0:03:15they don't know where it is.

0:03:15 > 0:03:17But I think if we make over the pavilion in the park,

0:03:17 > 0:03:20we'll get a lot more visitors from other places as well.

0:03:20 > 0:03:24This challenge is going to be tough but luckily they're not on their own

0:03:24 > 0:03:27because CBBC's Deadly Art crew - Jo, Nicola and Michelle -

0:03:27 > 0:03:31are on hand to help turn their design dreams into reality.

0:03:31 > 0:03:33Michelle's creative talents

0:03:33 > 0:03:37will be leading the way in all things design,

0:03:37 > 0:03:41artistic Jo is our go-to girl for huge scale wall art,

0:03:41 > 0:03:44and Nicola is the woman with the power tools.

0:03:44 > 0:03:47Today, the team are going to see the pavilion for the first time.

0:03:47 > 0:03:49The place is in a real mess.

0:03:49 > 0:03:53It's drab, in need of a lick of paint and there is junk everywhere.

0:03:53 > 0:03:56First stop, reception, and it's starting to dawn on the kids

0:03:56 > 0:03:59just how much work needs to be done.

0:03:59 > 0:04:02I think the whole reception area needs to be brighter

0:04:02 > 0:04:05because this is the first thing you're going to see when you walk in.

0:04:05 > 0:04:08It was just not the sort of place I would walk into the building

0:04:08 > 0:04:11and go, "Wow." I would go, "Oh."

0:04:13 > 0:04:16Next up, the changing rooms.

0:04:16 > 0:04:17It smells awful.

0:04:17 > 0:04:21I don't think even the strongest perfume could cover this up.

0:04:21 > 0:04:23Shall we have a look in the shower area

0:04:23 > 0:04:25and just see what's going on in there?

0:04:26 > 0:04:30- Eugh!- Oh, there's a bird down there.

0:04:30 > 0:04:32Oh!

0:04:32 > 0:04:35- Yeah, that's not...- There's a stuffed bird in the shower!

0:04:35 > 0:04:39All in all, they need to transform the two changing rooms, staffroom,

0:04:39 > 0:04:41main hall, reception area,

0:04:41 > 0:04:45and the outside of the pavilion, all in time for the party.

0:04:45 > 0:04:47There's a huge amount of work to be done

0:04:47 > 0:04:50but before they roll up their sleeves and get stuck in,

0:04:50 > 0:04:52Michelle wants to take them somewhere

0:04:52 > 0:04:54for some truly Olympic inspiration

0:04:54 > 0:04:57and it's a complete surprise.

0:04:57 > 0:05:00We are going to be going behind-the-scenes

0:05:00 > 0:05:03at the Olympic Park stadium

0:05:03 > 0:05:08- for you guys to potentially get some ideas for your makeover.- Oh, my God.

0:05:08 > 0:05:11We've got a train to catch. We're going in about 20 minutes.

0:05:11 > 0:05:14- Let's go, then. - Are you up for it?- Yes!- Come on.

0:05:18 > 0:05:23- Where will you be getting inspiration from tomorrow?- The Olympic village.

0:05:23 > 0:05:26I'm really excited to go to the Olympic Park tomorrow.

0:05:26 > 0:05:29We'll get a lot of inspiration from there.

0:05:37 > 0:05:40VIP passes. We're going to go into the park.

0:05:43 > 0:05:45There will be nearly 15,000 athletes

0:05:45 > 0:05:49taking part in the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympic events

0:05:49 > 0:05:52and millions here to see them.

0:05:52 > 0:05:56As well as the spectacular velodrome and Olympic Stadium itself,

0:05:56 > 0:05:59where the opening ceremony will take place on Friday,

0:05:59 > 0:06:02the Olympic Park includes amazing artworks,

0:06:02 > 0:06:05which Michelle wants the kids to reflect

0:06:05 > 0:06:08in their redesigns of the pavilion.

0:06:08 > 0:06:09It doesn't seem real.

0:06:09 > 0:06:13Aleem, Lauren and Lily waste no time taking photos

0:06:13 > 0:06:15of all the things they like,

0:06:15 > 0:06:19including sculptor Anish Kapoor's massive structure, The Orbit.

0:06:19 > 0:06:24You just don't realise how big it is until you go and see it in person.

0:06:24 > 0:06:29I really like it because it looks like balloons, it looks like a party.

0:06:29 > 0:06:31Can you imagine these types of colours

0:06:31 > 0:06:34- all year round in the pavilion as well?- Yeah, definitely.

0:06:34 > 0:06:37They would even brighten the place up when it was cold and dark.

0:06:37 > 0:06:42- What do you think of these? - Amazing.- They're really cool.

0:06:42 > 0:06:45I love the fact that they're mirrored so you can see all around it.

0:06:45 > 0:06:46It looks really nice.

0:06:46 > 0:06:50Finally, this giant mural, which cleverly disguises

0:06:50 > 0:06:52two ugly work buildings in the south of the park.

0:06:52 > 0:06:55These colours, you wouldn't really see them together,

0:06:55 > 0:06:58but they look really good together.

0:06:58 > 0:07:01We had a really good day. It was lovely.

0:07:01 > 0:07:03We have to put the hard work in now.

0:07:03 > 0:07:05It was an absolutely amazing experience

0:07:05 > 0:07:08and I'd love to go back again.

0:07:13 > 0:07:15It's the first day of the makeover.

0:07:15 > 0:07:19Before they can get creative, this place needs a serious clear-out.

0:07:19 > 0:07:22Members of the local community have turned out to help.

0:07:22 > 0:07:25The community haven't got the best of this building

0:07:25 > 0:07:26for quite some time, I don't think.

0:07:26 > 0:07:29It's been neglected and kind of forgotten about.

0:07:29 > 0:07:31I think that the fact the kids are here is fantastic.

0:07:31 > 0:07:34It's going to give us the opportunity to do a lot of things

0:07:34 > 0:07:35with the pavilion that we didn't have

0:07:35 > 0:07:37and we don't have at the moment.

0:07:37 > 0:07:39Aleem, Lauren and Lily are firmly in charge

0:07:39 > 0:07:42and start dishing out the orders.

0:07:42 > 0:07:44Aleem, what do you want us to do with this stuff?

0:07:44 > 0:07:46I want all this stuff to move in the storeroom.

0:07:46 > 0:07:48After years of neglect,

0:07:48 > 0:07:52it's time to throw open the shutters and let the light in.

0:07:56 > 0:08:00The kids get started on revamping the reception and the main hall.

0:08:02 > 0:08:05Following the trip to the Olympic Park,

0:08:05 > 0:08:07the kids love the abstract mural and, with Jo's help,

0:08:07 > 0:08:11use this as inspiration for the outside walls.

0:08:11 > 0:08:13Like your mural that you were looking at here,

0:08:13 > 0:08:17we're going to try and create a kind of big abstract mural.

0:08:17 > 0:08:21Jo and the kids use a projector to experiment with the best layout.

0:08:21 > 0:08:25I've done these drawings here of different sporting people.

0:08:25 > 0:08:27I think that's what we should play around with.

0:08:27 > 0:08:29I like how even when their overlapping,

0:08:29 > 0:08:31it looks really good as well.

0:08:31 > 0:08:33I like the pair of legs - you can use them

0:08:33 > 0:08:36not just for a sprinter but for kicking a football, or something.

0:08:36 > 0:08:39I quite like the idea of having the sprinter,

0:08:39 > 0:08:43but the body and the legs, put them random places.

0:08:45 > 0:08:48- That looks good.- That's nice, isn't it?- That looks good.

0:08:48 > 0:08:53I found out Middlesbrough town has a motto. It's, "We will be."

0:08:53 > 0:08:56I thought for the back wall, we could use those words.

0:08:56 > 0:08:59That's good - it makes you feel proud of Middlesbrough.

0:08:59 > 0:09:04It's saying that, "We're not going to change, we will be what we are."

0:09:04 > 0:09:08The design sorted, they work out the colours they want to use,

0:09:08 > 0:09:11inspired by the mural and the bright floor in the Olympic Park.

0:09:11 > 0:09:14I think because we're doing other colours as well,

0:09:14 > 0:09:17it also could look like a bunch of flowers.

0:09:17 > 0:09:20OK, so I've got all your ideas. I know what I'm working with.

0:09:20 > 0:09:22Are you happy for me to go away and design your mural?

0:09:22 > 0:09:24ALL: Yes. Brilliant.

0:09:24 > 0:09:27Our young makeover team loved the RUN and the Orbit structures

0:09:27 > 0:09:30at the Olympic Park, and Nicola, taking on board their ideas,

0:09:30 > 0:09:35has unleashed the power tools and started work on some wall art

0:09:35 > 0:09:36made from recycled steel.

0:09:36 > 0:09:38What does it say? ALL: Move.

0:09:38 > 0:09:43And Aleem, Lauren and Lily aren't short of ideas on how to use it.

0:09:43 > 0:09:46- We could use them as mirrors in the changing room.- Great idea.

0:09:46 > 0:09:47You could even use magnets

0:09:47 > 0:09:50instead of pins on the ones that you back with steel.

0:09:50 > 0:09:52We could make a magnet board and put photos!

0:09:52 > 0:09:56The kids are excited to get to work on Nicola's wall art

0:09:56 > 0:09:59but Michelle has other plans for them.

0:09:59 > 0:10:03Time is so tight ahead of the party on Friday that Michelle needs

0:10:03 > 0:10:05the kids to get cracking on separate rooms.

0:10:05 > 0:10:09I'm setting you individual tasks and you've got until tomorrow evening

0:10:09 > 0:10:11to get it completely finished.

0:10:11 > 0:10:14Lily, you're going to be in charge of redecorating

0:10:14 > 0:10:15the whole of the staff room.

0:10:15 > 0:10:18Aleem, you're taking on the girls' changing room.

0:10:18 > 0:10:20Lauren, you're taking on the boys'.

0:10:20 > 0:10:24Based on their ideas, Michelle has come up with a design brief

0:10:24 > 0:10:27for the two changing rooms and staffroom.

0:10:27 > 0:10:29- Let's do it.- Yeah.

0:10:29 > 0:10:31The first day is nearly over

0:10:31 > 0:10:33and they're going to have to get at least one coat of paint

0:10:33 > 0:10:38on the walls if they stand any chance of completing this challenge.

0:10:38 > 0:10:41It's the next morning, and if this pavilion

0:10:41 > 0:10:44is going to be ready in time for Friday's party,

0:10:44 > 0:10:46the kids need to make a start on a couple of other things

0:10:46 > 0:10:48before they get back to their rooms.

0:10:48 > 0:10:50First, the outside walls.

0:10:50 > 0:10:53So where has Jo got to with their design ideas?

0:10:53 > 0:10:57I'm ready to show you the design for the front wall.

0:10:57 > 0:10:58- Wow.- That's amazing.

0:10:58 > 0:11:01Let's have a look at the back wall.

0:11:01 > 0:11:05Those winning words, "We will be," will look like that.

0:11:05 > 0:11:08Yellow really stands out, it looks really good.

0:11:08 > 0:11:10So you happy with that? ALL: Yeah.

0:11:10 > 0:11:12So they get started on the mural.

0:11:12 > 0:11:14There's three walls to get painted white

0:11:14 > 0:11:18before we even start with all the colours and things like that.

0:11:18 > 0:11:21So I think we're going to have to find some help from somewhere.

0:11:21 > 0:11:24And that help comes in the form of a group of local artists

0:11:24 > 0:11:27who offer to get stuck in and help Jo and the kids out.

0:11:27 > 0:11:29Next up, the wall art.

0:11:29 > 0:11:32The kids need to help Nicola paint it and get it up.

0:11:32 > 0:11:34I like they've taken our ideas. It looks good.

0:11:34 > 0:11:37'There's a lot to do. They're doing really well.'

0:11:37 > 0:11:40They're positive, enthusiastic, and they're working hard.

0:11:40 > 0:11:42They're going to need to work hard

0:11:42 > 0:11:44because there are only a few hours left

0:11:44 > 0:11:47before the kids' rooms have to be finished. The pressure is on.

0:11:47 > 0:11:49We have to second coat the walls. We've only got

0:11:49 > 0:11:52a couple of hours left. We're struggling with time.

0:11:52 > 0:11:56I'm worried about what the workers will think of the colours

0:11:56 > 0:11:59because it's a big change from what they were before

0:11:59 > 0:12:01but I just hope they like it.

0:12:01 > 0:12:04Michelle wants to see how the kids are getting on

0:12:04 > 0:12:07and checks in on Aleem.

0:12:07 > 0:12:10- I can't really read any of the words here.- Yeah, they're not together,

0:12:10 > 0:12:13- it's all mixed up.- It's all gone a bit wrong, hasn't it? Oh, no.

0:12:13 > 0:12:15Have they all stuck together?

0:12:15 > 0:12:18- I think they have. - Aleem, what's happened to you, man?

0:12:18 > 0:12:22- You were doing so well. This is not a piece of art.- Not any more!

0:12:22 > 0:12:25- This is a nightmare. How are you feeling?- Bit nervous now.

0:12:25 > 0:12:29A lot more nervous. I'm not 100% any more. I gave it a good shot.

0:12:29 > 0:12:33This is your task. You're responsible for this room, yeah?

0:12:33 > 0:12:35- So let's getting cracking, guys. - Right, OK.

0:12:35 > 0:12:38Meanwhile, in the boys' changing room,

0:12:38 > 0:12:40Lauren is also feeling the pressure.

0:12:40 > 0:12:43We've put so much time and effort into it,

0:12:43 > 0:12:45and if it wasn't going to get finished

0:12:45 > 0:12:48then it would be a really big disappointment.

0:12:48 > 0:12:51The moment of truth has finally arrived.

0:12:51 > 0:12:53Michelle gave them the challenge of decorating a room each.

0:12:53 > 0:12:57First stop, the boys' changing rooms where Lauren has transformed

0:12:57 > 0:13:01this characterless and depressing room into a bright, fun space.

0:13:05 > 0:13:08- What do you think?- Wow. I'm impressed.- Oh, my.

0:13:08 > 0:13:10What a big difference.

0:13:10 > 0:13:12- Do you like it?- Yes. - I love that on the wall.

0:13:12 > 0:13:14Very encouraging. It makes you want to win

0:13:14 > 0:13:17cos he's obviously just crossed the finish line.

0:13:17 > 0:13:20I wouldn't mind using this after a cricket game or football game.

0:13:20 > 0:13:23- Job well done, then. - High-five, everyone.

0:13:23 > 0:13:27Yes. Yes. We did it!
