0:00:23 > 0:00:25Oh! Right, well...
0:00:25 > 0:00:28I think that you need a little cup of juice,
0:00:28 > 0:00:33and a nice hot water bottle to make you feel better, OK?
0:00:33 > 0:00:34Ooh! Hello!
0:00:34 > 0:00:35I'm Rob.
0:00:35 > 0:00:38Teddy's not feeling very well today.
0:00:38 > 0:00:42So I thought I could be his doctor and try to fix him.
0:00:42 > 0:00:45What do you think will make him feel better?
0:00:45 > 0:00:49Oh? I think he needs some pink milk and a biscuit.
0:00:49 > 0:00:51Maybe some cake!
0:00:51 > 0:00:52Now then.
0:00:52 > 0:00:57In tonight's bedtime story, Ted can't find the doctor.
0:00:57 > 0:01:00So he decides it's time for him to take over.
0:01:00 > 0:01:04The story's by Andrea Beaty and Pascal Lemaitre,
0:01:04 > 0:01:07and it's called Doctor Ted.
0:01:07 > 0:01:12One morning, Ted woke up, got out of bed, and bumped his knee.
0:01:12 > 0:01:15"That's not good!" thought Ted.
0:01:15 > 0:01:16"I need a doctor."
0:01:16 > 0:01:20He looked everywhere, but couldn't find one.
0:01:20 > 0:01:25Since Ted couldn't find a doctor, he became a doctor.
0:01:25 > 0:01:28Now, Doctor Ted didn't have an office.
0:01:28 > 0:01:29So he made one.
0:01:29 > 0:01:32Doctor Ted didn't have a big bandage,
0:01:32 > 0:01:35so he made one of those, too.
0:01:35 > 0:01:38"Now all I need is a patient," he thought.
0:01:38 > 0:01:40So he waited for one to arrive.
0:01:40 > 0:01:43He waited,
0:01:43 > 0:01:44and he waited,
0:01:44 > 0:01:46and he waited.
0:01:46 > 0:01:52"Nice waiting room," thought Doctor Ted, and then he waited some more.
0:01:52 > 0:01:56"I think it's time for a house call," he thought.
0:01:56 > 0:01:57"Hello?" he called.
0:01:57 > 0:02:00Doctor Ted's mother was in the kitchen.
0:02:00 > 0:02:04"You have measles," said Doctor Ted.
0:02:04 > 0:02:05"We should operate."
0:02:05 > 0:02:09"Those are my freckles!" said his mother.
0:02:09 > 0:02:11"Come on, it's time for breakfast."
0:02:11 > 0:02:17At school, Doctor Ted sat in the third row of Mrs Johnson's class.
0:02:17 > 0:02:22All around him children coughed, sniffled and sneezed.
0:02:22 > 0:02:24Doctor Ted smiled.
0:02:24 > 0:02:27"Patients!" he thought.
0:02:27 > 0:02:30The patients were very germy.
0:02:30 > 0:02:34At lunchtime, Doctor Ted took their temperatures and blood pressure.
0:02:34 > 0:02:39He gave them good medical advice and they were very grateful.
0:02:39 > 0:02:44Ted was such a good doctor that even Mrs Johnson came to see him.
0:02:44 > 0:02:48"You can't be a doctor in the canteen," she said.
0:02:48 > 0:02:51"You have mumps," said Doctor Ted.
0:02:51 > 0:02:53"Crutches could help."
0:02:53 > 0:02:57"Those are my cheeks!" said Mrs Johnson.
0:02:57 > 0:02:59"Come on, it's time for lunch."
0:02:59 > 0:03:02Headteacher Bigham walked in.
0:03:02 > 0:03:07Doctor Ted could tell he was very sick. He needed a doctor.
0:03:07 > 0:03:11"We already have a school doctor who visits on Fridays,"
0:03:11 > 0:03:14said Headteacher Bigham with a smile.
0:03:14 > 0:03:19"You have gingivitis," said Doctor Ted. "You need a full body cast."
0:03:19 > 0:03:22Headteacher Bigham frowned.
0:03:22 > 0:03:26"You also have bad breath," said Doctor Ted.
0:03:26 > 0:03:28"You need an injection."
0:03:28 > 0:03:31The headteacher's face turned bright red.
0:03:31 > 0:03:34"And a fever," said Doctor Ted.
0:03:34 > 0:03:36"You need a transplant."
0:03:36 > 0:03:40"We already have a school doctor!"
0:03:40 > 0:03:43Headteacher Bigham pointed towards the door.
0:03:43 > 0:03:48"We could do something about these smelly feet," said Doctor Ted.
0:03:48 > 0:03:51"Go home!" said Headteacher Bigham.
0:03:51 > 0:03:54Doctor Ted was very sad.
0:03:54 > 0:03:57He packed up his big bandage and went home.
0:03:57 > 0:04:02That night, he took two biscuits and went straight to bed.
0:04:02 > 0:04:07The next day, at break time, Ted sat on a bench, and sighed.
0:04:07 > 0:04:12He watched Frances Sylvester do gymnastics on the monkey bars.
0:04:12 > 0:04:14She was very talented.
0:04:14 > 0:04:18Everyone thought so, especially Mrs Johnson
0:04:18 > 0:04:20and Headteacher Bigham.
0:04:20 > 0:04:24Frances finished her routine with a triple twisting somersault.
0:04:24 > 0:04:28She landed on Mrs Johnson.
0:04:28 > 0:04:30"Ouch!" cried Mrs Johnson.
0:04:30 > 0:04:33"My ankle!"
0:04:33 > 0:04:36Headteacher Bigham ran this way and that.
0:04:36 > 0:04:38"Help!" he called.
0:04:38 > 0:04:41"Call an ambulance! Call the fire brigade!
0:04:41 > 0:04:45"Call the library, j-j-just call somebody!"
0:04:45 > 0:04:48But Doctor Ted was already there!
0:04:48 > 0:04:52He wrapped Mrs Johnson's ankle with his big bandage.
0:04:52 > 0:04:55He checked her vision and her tonsils.
0:04:55 > 0:05:00"Take two biscuits," he said. "You'll feel better in the morning."
0:05:00 > 0:05:03Just then, the ambulance arrived,
0:05:03 > 0:05:06and the fire brigade, and the librarians.
0:05:06 > 0:05:10"It's a good thing you had Doctor Ted," they all said.
0:05:10 > 0:05:16"There's always room for another school doctor," said Mrs Johnson.
0:05:16 > 0:05:18"My work here is done," said Doctor Ted.
0:05:18 > 0:05:20"Keep the bandage."
0:05:20 > 0:05:24Headteacher Bigham's face turned bright red.
0:05:24 > 0:05:29"You really should do something about that fever," said Doctor Ted.
0:05:29 > 0:05:34That night, Doctor Ted closed his office, packed his stethoscope,
0:05:34 > 0:05:37and went to sleep, knowing he'd done a good job.
0:05:37 > 0:05:43The next morning Ted woke up, got out of bed, and sniffed the air.
0:05:43 > 0:05:45Hmm. It smelt like burnt toast.
0:05:45 > 0:05:48"That's not good!" thought Ted.
0:05:48 > 0:05:51"I need a fire engine."
