0:09:07 > 0:09:09Hello, I'm Colin.
0:09:09 > 0:09:12I'm just sorting out the bed ready for bedtime.
0:09:12 > 0:09:16I need everything to be just right before I can get to sleep.
0:09:16 > 0:09:21I need a cushion, a teddy, oh, and a bedtime story.
0:09:24 > 0:09:27This is a story called Emily Brown And The Thing.
0:09:27 > 0:09:32Once upon a time, there was a little girl called Emily Brown
0:09:32 > 0:09:35and an old grey rabbit called Stanley.
0:09:37 > 0:09:41Emily Brown and Stanley were trying to get to sleep after a busy day,
0:09:41 > 0:09:44but a noise was keeping them awake.
0:09:44 > 0:09:46"Splish!" went the noise.
0:09:46 > 0:09:48"Splosh!" went the noise.
0:09:48 > 0:09:51It seemed to be coming from the window.
0:09:51 > 0:09:53"Splish, splosh!"
0:09:54 > 0:09:57There was a Thing sitting on the windowsill.
0:09:57 > 0:10:01Large tears were dripping onto his pyjamas.
0:10:01 > 0:10:05"Oh, Emily Brown, Emily Brown," wept the Thing.
0:10:05 > 0:10:09"I can't find my cuddly however hard I look.
0:10:09 > 0:10:12"It's not in the dark and scary wood.
0:10:12 > 0:10:14"And it's not under my pillow.
0:10:14 > 0:10:17"You and Stanley must come and find it for me.
0:10:17 > 0:10:21"Because I can't sleep without my cuddly."
0:10:21 > 0:10:25So, Emily Brown and Stanley put on their wet-weather wind coats
0:10:25 > 0:10:28and their see-in-the-dark glasses
0:10:28 > 0:10:31and their special boots for climbing.
0:10:31 > 0:10:38They searched down low in the tangles and up high in the tree tops.
0:10:38 > 0:10:42They ran away from wolves and they lifted up trolls.
0:10:42 > 0:10:45And eventually, they found the Thing's cuddly
0:10:45 > 0:10:49right at the top of the twistiest,
0:10:49 > 0:10:54thorniest tree in the dark, scary wood.
0:10:54 > 0:10:56"Thank you," said the Thing.
0:10:56 > 0:10:59"Don't mention it," said Emily Brown.
0:10:59 > 0:11:07"And now you must be quiet, Stanley and I are trying to sleep."
0:11:07 > 0:11:12"I promise," said the Thing, cuddling his cuddly.
0:11:12 > 0:11:15Emily Brown shut the window.
0:11:16 > 0:11:17A short while later,
0:11:17 > 0:11:21Emily Brown and Stanley were trying to get to sleep again.
0:11:21 > 0:11:24But a noise was keeping them awake.
0:11:24 > 0:11:27"Rumble, rumble!" went the noise.
0:11:27 > 0:11:30"Rumble, rumble, rumble, rumble, rumble, rumble."
0:11:30 > 0:11:33It seemed to be coming from the kitchen.
0:11:33 > 0:11:35It was the Thing again.
0:11:35 > 0:11:39"Oh, Emily Brown, Emily Brown," grumbled the Thing.
0:11:39 > 0:11:45"All I had for tea was 100 hamburgers and one small apple for the vitamins.
0:11:45 > 0:11:50"And now I'm ever so hungry and thirsty.
0:11:50 > 0:11:53"You and Stanley must fetch me my bedtime milk
0:11:53 > 0:11:56"because I can't sleep when my tummy is rumbling."
0:11:56 > 0:12:00So...Emily Brown and Stanley sighed heavily
0:12:00 > 0:12:03and put snow snugglers on their heads,
0:12:03 > 0:12:06and ski plankers on their feet
0:12:06 > 0:12:10and their fluffiest winter warmers over everything.
0:12:10 > 0:12:13They skied off through the wild and whirling wastes.
0:12:13 > 0:12:18Through blizzards and hurricanes, till their hands were frozen
0:12:18 > 0:12:22and their legs were sore, searching for a mug of milk for the Thing.
0:12:22 > 0:12:27Stanley had to distract a polar bear who thought the milk belonged to him.
0:12:27 > 0:12:31"Rrrr, thank you," said the Thing.
0:12:31 > 0:12:34"Don't mention it," said Emily Brown.
0:12:34 > 0:12:41"Now, you must be quiet, Stanley and I are trying to sleep."
0:12:41 > 0:12:46"I promise," said the Thing, dropping most of the milk over his pyjama top.
0:12:48 > 0:12:53Emily Brown had hardly even shut her eyes before the noise started again.
0:12:53 > 0:12:56"Scratch, scratch, scratch," went the noise.
0:12:56 > 0:12:59It seemed to be coming from under the bed.
0:12:59 > 0:13:02"Scratch, scratch, scratch."
0:13:02 > 0:13:04It was the Thing again.
0:13:04 > 0:13:07"I've got this itchy leg," began the Thing.
0:13:07 > 0:13:11But this time, Emily Brown had had enough.
0:13:11 > 0:13:14"Stop!" shouted Emily Brown.
0:13:14 > 0:13:15"I have had enough!
0:13:15 > 0:13:19"We have rescued your cuddly from the scary wood,
0:13:19 > 0:13:23"we have fetched your milk from the wild and whirling wastes.
0:13:23 > 0:13:27"We have borrowed your medicine from the witches.
0:13:27 > 0:13:32"Stanley and I are exhausted! There's nothing wrong with your leg.
0:13:32 > 0:13:34"What is really the matter?"
0:13:34 > 0:13:37Two large tears crept down the Thing's cheeks
0:13:37 > 0:13:39and onto his furry chest.
0:13:39 > 0:13:44"I'm scared," whispered the Thing.
0:13:46 > 0:13:51"Oh, so that's been the problem," said Emily Brown
0:13:51 > 0:13:55drying his tears and handing him his cuddly again.
0:13:55 > 0:13:57"What are you scared of?"
0:13:59 > 0:14:06"Oh, I don't know...Things," said the Thing.
0:14:06 > 0:14:11"You are a Thing," said Emily Brown.
0:14:11 > 0:14:13"Am I?" said the Thing in surprise.
0:14:13 > 0:14:17"Ha! I wondered what I was."
0:14:17 > 0:14:21"You're definitely a Thing," said Emily Brown tucking him in
0:14:21 > 0:14:25and putting his hot-water bottle underneath his hairy legs.
0:14:25 > 0:14:27"Am I scary?" asked the Thing.
0:14:27 > 0:14:31"You are not at all scary," said Emily Brown.
0:14:31 > 0:14:33"You're a very nice Thing.
0:14:33 > 0:14:36"When Stanley and I are trying to sleep,
0:14:36 > 0:14:39"we find it helps to think of nice things.
0:14:39 > 0:14:42"Maybe you should try doing that yourself."
0:14:42 > 0:14:48"Maybe I will," said the nice Thing, yawning very wide.
0:14:48 > 0:14:50THING YAWNS
0:14:50 > 0:14:53"Night-night, Emily Brown. Sleep tight.
0:14:53 > 0:14:57"Sweet dreams."
0:14:57 > 0:15:01That story was called Emily Brown And The Thing.
0:15:01 > 0:15:05Now, it's time for you to try and get to sleep,
0:15:05 > 0:15:07just like the Thing.
0:15:07 > 0:15:11You won't need any green medicine from the whiny witches,
0:15:11 > 0:15:14or bedtime milk from polar bears.
0:15:14 > 0:15:18Just think about all the nice things that you have done today.
0:15:18 > 0:15:22Night-night and I will see you soon for another story.
