0:30:07 > 0:30:11What can I give my friend?
0:30:11 > 0:30:12Hmm...
0:30:12 > 0:30:15I don't know.
0:30:15 > 0:30:19Oh, hello! I'm Romola.
0:30:19 > 0:30:22Do you like presents?
0:30:22 > 0:30:27I do. I love receiving unusual things from my friends,
0:30:27 > 0:30:29and I like giving presents too.
0:30:29 > 0:30:34But I don't know what to give my friend as a birthday present.
0:30:34 > 0:30:36I want to give them something special,
0:30:36 > 0:30:39but I just don't know what they would like.
0:30:39 > 0:30:44Sometimes it's very difficult to give just the right present.
0:30:44 > 0:30:49And Minty, in tonight's bedtime story, has just that problem.
0:30:49 > 0:30:56The story is by Emma Chichester Clark and is called Minty And Tink.
0:30:56 > 0:31:01It all started when we were looking for a birthday present
0:31:01 > 0:31:03for my baby brother.
0:31:03 > 0:31:08I kept finding things and Mum kept saying, "No, no, no, Minty."
0:31:08 > 0:31:13But, just as I was looking at a life-sized baby doll
0:31:13 > 0:31:18that cried real tears, I saw something peculiar.
0:31:18 > 0:31:23On the shelf, a teeny-weeny panda bear
0:31:23 > 0:31:28was jumping up and down, waving at me.
0:31:28 > 0:31:32It said, "Help! Get me out of here!"
0:31:32 > 0:31:35As I picked him up, Mum said,
0:31:35 > 0:31:39"OK, Minty, that will do, bring it to the checkout."
0:31:39 > 0:31:44She paid for the bear, it was put in a bag and we went home.
0:31:44 > 0:31:47I couldn't wait to go up to my room.
0:31:47 > 0:31:51I looked at the bear and he looked at me.
0:31:51 > 0:31:54"Are you really real?" I asked.
0:31:54 > 0:31:58"I'm as real as you are," he replied.
0:31:58 > 0:32:01"I'm one in 1,000 and my name is Tink."
0:32:01 > 0:32:05Then he did a handstand, just to prove it.
0:32:05 > 0:32:11"This is the best thing that's ever happened to me," I said.
0:32:11 > 0:32:12And it was true.
0:32:12 > 0:32:16I had lots of animals that I talked to,
0:32:16 > 0:32:19all the time, but they never talked back.
0:32:19 > 0:32:23"This is my luckiest day!" I thought.
0:32:23 > 0:32:28Then Mum called. "Minty, wash your hands and come down to tea."
0:32:28 > 0:32:32I put Tink in my pocket and went downstairs.
0:32:32 > 0:32:37My baby brother had strawberry jam all over his face
0:32:37 > 0:32:39and all over his giraffe.
0:32:39 > 0:32:44Mum said, "After tea, bring that little B-E-A-R
0:32:44 > 0:32:48"and we'll wrap it up for you-know-who!"
0:32:48 > 0:32:52"Do I really have to give it to him?" I asked.
0:32:52 > 0:32:58"Of course you do, we bought it specially for him," answered Mum.
0:32:58 > 0:33:00I sat in the bath.
0:33:00 > 0:33:05How could I possibly give Tink to the baby?
0:33:05 > 0:33:07Not now, not ever.
0:33:07 > 0:33:09He was my best friend.
0:33:09 > 0:33:13"What are you going to do?" asked Tink.
0:33:13 > 0:33:18"We'll think of something," I said, "We've got to."
0:33:18 > 0:33:23"Why don't you give him something else?" said Tink.
0:33:23 > 0:33:25"Brilliant!" I said.
0:33:25 > 0:33:29"Mum! Can I give him this instead?"
0:33:29 > 0:33:35"It's only got one leg, Minty. So, no," said Mum.
0:33:35 > 0:33:39"No good," I told Tink. "What else is there?"
0:33:39 > 0:33:42"This?" said Tink.
0:33:42 > 0:33:45"Brilliant," I said.
0:33:45 > 0:33:50Mum was waiting. "Can I give him this?" I asked.
0:33:50 > 0:33:53"It's dirty," said Mum.
0:33:53 > 0:33:56"So, no?" I asked.
0:33:56 > 0:33:59"No," said Mum.
0:33:59 > 0:34:03"There must be something else!" I cried.
0:34:03 > 0:34:07"These?" asked Tink.
0:34:07 > 0:34:09My mum was still waiting.
0:34:09 > 0:34:13"Can I give him these?" I asked.
0:34:13 > 0:34:16"Not good for him," said Mum.
0:34:16 > 0:34:18"Hurry up, Minty," said Mum,
0:34:18 > 0:34:22"Get the bear and I'll help you to wrap it."
0:34:22 > 0:34:27"Looks like you'll have to give me to the baby," sighed Tink.
0:34:27 > 0:34:30"You don't want that, do you?" I asked.
0:34:30 > 0:34:34"No!" cried Tink, "I chose you.
0:34:34 > 0:34:38"I think he might eat me."
0:34:38 > 0:34:40Mum wrapped Tink up,
0:34:40 > 0:34:44stuck him down with sticky tape and tied ribbon round him.
0:34:44 > 0:34:48When I went to bed, I knew there was no way
0:34:48 > 0:34:51I was ever going to get to sleep.
0:34:51 > 0:34:55"It's not too late," I was thinking,
0:34:55 > 0:34:59"I can still make something, but what?" I wondered.
0:34:59 > 0:35:07"Something the baby will really like," I thought.
0:35:07 > 0:35:10Then I had an idea.
0:35:10 > 0:35:14I was late for breakfast the next morning.
0:35:14 > 0:35:19When I came down the baby was just about to rip open my present.
0:35:19 > 0:35:23Tink fell out of the wrapping paper.
0:35:23 > 0:35:26The baby opened his mouth.
0:35:26 > 0:35:31"Noooo!" I cried.
0:35:31 > 0:35:35"Noooooo!" cried Mum.
0:35:35 > 0:35:40"Noooooo!" cried Dad.
0:35:40 > 0:35:42"Tink!" I yelled,
0:35:42 > 0:35:47"Don't let him eat Tink!" I screamed.
0:35:47 > 0:35:50Dad rescued Tink.
0:35:50 > 0:35:52"You'd better keep him, Minty,
0:35:52 > 0:35:56"he's really too small to give to a baby," Dad said.
0:35:56 > 0:36:01"I've got another present for him," I told them.
0:36:01 > 0:36:04"I made it all by myself."
0:36:04 > 0:36:07"It's beautiful," said Mum.
0:36:07 > 0:36:11"It's wonderful," said Dad.
0:36:11 > 0:36:18"Happy birthday, Tom," I said to my little baby brother.
0:36:18 > 0:36:26And that's how Tink became my very own best friend REAL bear!
0:36:28 > 0:36:32That story was called Minty And Tink.
0:36:32 > 0:36:38What a good idea, I'll make a big birthday banner for my friend.
0:36:38 > 0:36:40I'm sure they'll like that.
0:36:40 > 0:36:48Well, while I get making, it's time for you to get sleeping!
0:36:48 > 0:36:52Night, night, and I'll see you soon for another story.
0:36:52 > 0:37:00Right, let's get started. Pens, paper...
