0:00:18 > 0:00:21Oh! Oh, hello.

0:00:21 > 0:00:22I'm Josie.

0:00:22 > 0:00:25We've just heard a knock at the door

0:00:25 > 0:00:28and I don't think it's my turn to answer it.

0:00:28 > 0:00:31No, I definitely answered the door to let the duck in

0:00:31 > 0:00:35so when we hear the door next, it's your turn, Pudsey.

0:00:35 > 0:00:38There's a lot of knocking at the door

0:00:38 > 0:00:40in today's bedtime story, isn't there?

0:00:40 > 0:00:43And Rabbit and Duck and Lamb and Mouse,

0:00:43 > 0:00:46they all need to find out who's at the door.

0:00:46 > 0:00:50So, do you want to listen? You listen over there, Pudsey.

0:00:50 > 0:00:54This story is by Alison Green and Deborah Allwright.

0:00:54 > 0:00:56It's called The Fox In The Dark.

0:00:57 > 0:01:00Rabbit runs home, he darts left and right,

0:01:00 > 0:01:03scampering, scrambling back through the night.

0:01:03 > 0:01:05His ears flat, his tail bobs.

0:01:05 > 0:01:09It's going to be tight as he's chased by a fox through the dark.

0:01:09 > 0:01:13Bang goes his door and click, snaps the latch.

0:01:13 > 0:01:16Thunk goes the key and screech, strikes a match.

0:01:16 > 0:01:18And "Phew!" rabbit sighs.

0:01:18 > 0:01:23"I've escaped, not a scratch. And I'm safe from that fox in the dark."

0:01:23 > 0:01:25But ra-ta-ta-tat!

0:01:25 > 0:01:27"Now, who can that be?

0:01:27 > 0:01:29"Friend or fox?" Rabbit cries.

0:01:29 > 0:01:32A voice quacks, "Look and see.

0:01:32 > 0:01:35"You'll never find anyone more scared than me

0:01:35 > 0:01:38"of the teeth of the fox in the dark."

0:01:38 > 0:01:40Rabbit peers round the door.

0:01:40 > 0:01:44There's no fox, just a duck who says, "Please let me in.

0:01:44 > 0:01:46"I've had so much bad luck.

0:01:46 > 0:01:49"My truck hit a ditch and got stuck in the muck.

0:01:49 > 0:01:51"And I've just seen a fox in the dark."

0:01:51 > 0:01:53Rabbit grumbles a bit.

0:01:53 > 0:01:55It's not really his habit,

0:01:55 > 0:01:57to share with a duck, a bed made for a rabbit.

0:01:57 > 0:02:00"But the duvet's quite small.

0:02:00 > 0:02:04"Try not to grab it while we hide from the fox in the dark."

0:02:04 > 0:02:06Then ra-ta-ta-tat!

0:02:06 > 0:02:08"Who's that at the door?"

0:02:08 > 0:02:10"It's me!" squeaks a voice.

0:02:10 > 0:02:12"Is there room for one more?

0:02:12 > 0:02:16"I don't need much space and my paws are so sore.

0:02:16 > 0:02:19"I've just run from a fox in the dark."

0:02:19 > 0:02:22"Oh, really?" sighs Rabbit.

0:02:22 > 0:02:23"The hour is so late."

0:02:23 > 0:02:27But the mouse stood outside in such a sad state.

0:02:27 > 0:02:29"I'm so tired," he says,

0:02:29 > 0:02:34"I could hibernate thanks to that fox in the dark."

0:02:34 > 0:02:39So they squish up together and Duck says, "Nice house."

0:02:39 > 0:02:43And, "Thank you so much for your kindness," says Mouse.

0:02:43 > 0:02:46And, "Sorry," says Rabbit.

0:02:46 > 0:02:50"I ought not to grouse. I'm just cross with that fox in the dark."

0:02:50 > 0:02:52But then ra-ta-ta-tat!

0:02:52 > 0:02:54"Who can that be now?

0:02:54 > 0:03:00"If it's a horse or a pig or a cow, they can just stay outside."

0:03:00 > 0:03:02Rabbit furrows his brow,

0:03:02 > 0:03:05"I'll have words with that fox in the dark."

0:03:05 > 0:03:09Outside is a lamb who's shaking with fear.

0:03:09 > 0:03:14"Please may I come in? It looks so safe in here.

0:03:14 > 0:03:18"A big hairy, scary thing baa-rked in my ear.

0:03:18 > 0:03:22"And I'm sure it's a fox in the daa-rk."

0:03:22 > 0:03:25The bed is so full that it's starting to creak.

0:03:25 > 0:03:29Rabbit shoves Mouse and Mouse gives a squeak.

0:03:29 > 0:03:32Then Lamb accidentally squashes Duck's beak.

0:03:32 > 0:03:36"Oh drat that old fox in the daa-rk."

0:03:36 > 0:03:39Then ra-ta-ta-tat, comes a knock at the door.

0:03:39 > 0:03:43"I'll get it," says Duck as he bumps to the floor.

0:03:43 > 0:03:46"Not that there's room here for anyone more."

0:03:46 > 0:03:50But outside is a fox in the dark!

0:03:50 > 0:03:52"Uh! Don't eat us!" cries Duck.

0:03:52 > 0:03:54"At least, please don't eat me."

0:03:54 > 0:03:57Rabbit and Lamb dive behind the settee.

0:03:57 > 0:04:01Mouse flings up a paw and shouts, "I need a wee."

0:04:01 > 0:04:05Then duck says, "He looks a bit small to me."

0:04:05 > 0:04:07And the fox starts to cry and says,

0:04:07 > 0:04:12"Please help. You see, I've lost my mum out in the dark.

0:04:13 > 0:04:15"Just what I thought," says Duck.

0:04:15 > 0:04:17"Ha, what a muddle."

0:04:17 > 0:04:21A Rabbit gives Fox Cub a very big cuddle.

0:04:21 > 0:04:25Then Lamb takes a cloth and cleans up Mouse's puddle.

0:04:25 > 0:04:29"He gets scaa-red by a fox in the dark."

0:04:29 > 0:04:31Then ra-ta-ta-tat!

0:04:31 > 0:04:35"Who's that now?" Rabbit sighs.

0:04:35 > 0:04:39As he opens the door, Duck says, "That was unwise."

0:04:39 > 0:04:43For outside is a fox of a much bigger size

0:04:43 > 0:04:46looming down at them out of the dark.

0:04:46 > 0:04:51But the fox cries, "My baby! I've searched for you so."

0:04:51 > 0:04:53"And you found him," quacks Duck.

0:04:53 > 0:04:54"So off you both go.

0:04:54 > 0:04:57"I don't like to rush you, but as you well know,

0:04:57 > 0:05:00"a fox belongs out in the dark."

0:05:00 > 0:05:02"We won't hurt you," says Fox.

0:05:02 > 0:05:04"Oh, please let us stay!

0:05:04 > 0:05:08"You've all been so kind, we'll keep out of your way.

0:05:08 > 0:05:10"My baby's so tired.

0:05:10 > 0:05:14"Our home's too far away for a fox cub to trot in the dark."

0:05:15 > 0:05:18But Rabbit cries out, "There's no room in the bed!

0:05:18 > 0:05:20"Where on earth will you sleep?"

0:05:20 > 0:05:22Mummy Fox shakes her head.

0:05:22 > 0:05:26"Who needs a small bed? There's a big fox instead.

0:05:26 > 0:05:30"We can all snuggle up in the dark."

0:05:30 > 0:05:34So they each grabbed what pillows and rugs can be found.

0:05:34 > 0:05:37Fox lies out comfortably down on the ground.

0:05:37 > 0:05:42Then they yawn and they stretch and they all cuddle round

0:05:42 > 0:05:46with the fox that came in from the dark.

0:05:48 > 0:05:52And that story was called The Fox In The Dark.

0:05:52 > 0:05:56Hey, did you enjoy that, Pudsey?

0:05:56 > 0:05:57Oh, good. I'm glad you did.

0:05:57 > 0:06:00We need to make sure we open the door

0:06:00 > 0:06:02cos there might be more animals

0:06:02 > 0:06:06who'd like to cuddle up here with us on the sofa. Hmm?

0:06:06 > 0:06:09But right now it's for you to go to bed.

0:06:09 > 0:06:14And I'll see you soon for another story. Night, night. Sweet dreams.

0:06:14 > 0:06:17It's time for you to go to bed too, Pudsey.

0:06:17 > 0:06:19Oh, yes it is.
