0:09:07 > 0:09:09Hello, my name's Emilia.
0:09:09 > 0:09:12I was looking to see how far I can see.
0:09:12 > 0:09:14What can you see?
0:09:14 > 0:09:16Look...
0:09:16 > 0:09:20there's the bridge and the river,
0:09:20 > 0:09:22it's amazing.
0:09:22 > 0:09:27But if it was very, very dark, I don't think I would see as much,
0:09:27 > 0:09:30and it's very dark in tonight's Bedtime Story
0:09:30 > 0:09:32about a little boy called Chinoo,
0:09:32 > 0:09:36who lives a long way away, near the Arctic Circle.
0:09:36 > 0:09:40It's very cold there, and in winter the days can be so short
0:09:40 > 0:09:43that it doesn't really get light at all.
0:09:43 > 0:09:47The story's called The Big Dark.
0:09:49 > 0:09:54In a distant, dark, cold land, lived little Chinoo with his parents,
0:09:54 > 0:09:56in a house built of snow.
0:09:56 > 0:10:01It was winter and Chinoo was fed up.
0:10:01 > 0:10:05The Big Cold had frozen the sea solid, so he couldn't go fishing.
0:10:05 > 0:10:11The Big Wind blew nearly every day, so he couldn't play outside.
0:10:11 > 0:10:14And the Big Dark was everywhere...
0:10:14 > 0:10:16All the time.
0:10:16 > 0:10:22One morning, when Chinoo looked outside into the Big Dark,
0:10:22 > 0:10:25all was quiet and still.
0:10:25 > 0:10:30"Come, little Chinoo", said Mama and Papa, "It's time to go."
0:10:30 > 0:10:33"Where?" asked Chinoo.
0:10:33 > 0:10:36"To the sea," they said.
0:10:36 > 0:10:41So, Chinoo followed his parents' footprints through the snow.
0:10:42 > 0:10:45Soon, he saw some big, wide tracks.
0:10:45 > 0:10:50Chinoo scampered after them and found a young polar bear
0:10:50 > 0:10:52heading for the sea.
0:10:52 > 0:10:55"Want to play a game?" asked Chinoo.
0:10:55 > 0:10:59"Oh, yes please," said the polar bear.
0:10:59 > 0:11:02So, they played hide-and-seek.
0:11:02 > 0:11:07The polar bear hid, while Chinoo counted to ten.
0:11:07 > 0:11:10"One...
0:11:10 > 0:11:15"two, three, four, five, six...
0:11:15 > 0:11:20"seven, eight, nine, ten...
0:11:20 > 0:11:22I'm coming!"
0:11:22 > 0:11:27"Oh, this is easy!", thought Chinoo. "Just follow the tracks."
0:11:27 > 0:11:32"Found you", giggled Chinoo, now it's my go.
0:11:32 > 0:11:35But, before the bear could start counting,
0:11:35 > 0:11:38Chinoo heard his parents calling -
0:11:38 > 0:11:42"Come, little Chinoo, hurry up or we'll miss it."
0:11:42 > 0:11:46"Miss what?" asked Chinoo.
0:11:46 > 0:11:50"You'll see," they replied.
0:11:50 > 0:11:55So, Chinoo followed his parents' footprints through the snow again.
0:11:56 > 0:12:00Soon, he saw a set of small, round prints.
0:12:00 > 0:12:03He scampered after them and found...
0:12:03 > 0:12:07a wolf cub heading for the sea.
0:12:07 > 0:12:10"Want to play a game?" asked Chinoo.
0:12:10 > 0:12:13"Oh, yes please," replied the wolf cub.
0:12:14 > 0:12:19Chinoo took a ball out of his bag and threw it as far as he could.
0:12:19 > 0:12:22"Yippee!" said the wolf cub,
0:12:22 > 0:12:25who scampered after it and brought it back.
0:12:25 > 0:12:30But before Chinoo could throw it again, he heard his parents calling.
0:12:30 > 0:12:35"Come on, Chinoo, hurry or we'll miss it."
0:12:35 > 0:12:38"Miss what?" asked Chinoo.
0:12:38 > 0:12:42"You'll see," they replied.
0:12:44 > 0:12:46Once again, Chinoo plodded on,
0:12:46 > 0:12:49following his parents' footprints through the snow.
0:12:49 > 0:12:54Soon, he saw a set of enormous, wide tracks.
0:12:54 > 0:12:58He scampered after them and found...
0:12:58 > 0:13:03a young walrus and a daddy walrus galumphing through the snow.
0:13:05 > 0:13:07"Want to play a game?" asked Chinoo.
0:13:07 > 0:13:11"What?" huffed the daddy walrus.
0:13:11 > 0:13:17"No, no, no, no, no, we're going to the sea and we're very late."
0:13:17 > 0:13:20Chinoo's legs suddenly felt really tired.
0:13:20 > 0:13:25"It's such a long way to the sea," he said.
0:13:25 > 0:13:28"I'm tired of walking and I want to play."
0:13:28 > 0:13:33"How about a lift?" offered the daddy walrus.
0:13:33 > 0:13:36"Oh, thank you," said Chinoo.
0:13:36 > 0:13:38Quickly, he climbed on board.
0:13:38 > 0:13:41It was the wobbliest ride ever,
0:13:41 > 0:13:45like sitting on a giant jelly.
0:13:45 > 0:13:49Soon, they caught up with Mama and Papa,
0:13:49 > 0:13:52and together they walked on through the Big Dark.
0:13:54 > 0:13:57Chinoo was amazed to see so many tracks in the snow,
0:13:57 > 0:14:00all heading in the same direction.
0:14:00 > 0:14:07At last, as they rounded a corner, they saw the frozen sea.
0:14:07 > 0:14:11The shore was lined with animals of all sorts,
0:14:11 > 0:14:15all watching the lightening sky.
0:14:15 > 0:14:19Chinoo slid off the walrus's back.
0:14:19 > 0:14:22"What's happening?" he asked.
0:14:22 > 0:14:28"Shh," said Mama, "just watch and wait."
0:14:30 > 0:14:33Chinoo watched and waited...
0:14:33 > 0:14:35and waited and watched,
0:14:35 > 0:14:40and then, very, very slowly, it happened.
0:14:40 > 0:14:46"Oh... Oh, look!", said Chinoo.
0:14:48 > 0:14:53"Mmm!" said the animals. "The sun!"
0:14:55 > 0:14:57"At last," whispered Mama.
0:14:57 > 0:15:03"The Big Dark is over, the sun will shine and the ice will melt."
0:15:03 > 0:15:08"We can go fishing again and play outside any time," said Papa.
0:15:08 > 0:15:11"Yippee!" cried Chinoo.
0:15:11 > 0:15:16He skipped all the way home and he didn't feel tired at all.
0:15:18 > 0:15:21And that story was called The Big Dark.
0:15:21 > 0:15:26Didn't the sun reflecting on the snow look lovely?
0:15:26 > 0:15:28It must have been exciting seeing the sun,
0:15:28 > 0:15:31after it being dark for so long.
0:15:31 > 0:15:35I wonder what else I can see if I look over here?
0:15:36 > 0:15:38Maybe I can see the sun.
0:15:40 > 0:15:44Well, while I look, it's time for you to go to bed,
0:15:44 > 0:15:46and I'll see you soon for another story.
0:15:46 > 0:15:48Night-night.
0:15:48 > 0:15:51Now, what can I see over here?
