0:24:49 > 0:24:57.
0:25:06 > 0:25:12202, 203... Oh, hello. My name's Tom.
0:25:12 > 0:25:16And I'm trying to work out how many leaves are on those trees.
0:25:16 > 0:25:19Do you think there's a million?
0:25:19 > 0:25:21I'm not sure.
0:25:21 > 0:25:24Pipkin wants to know, How Big Is A Million?
0:25:24 > 0:25:27That's the title of tonight's story.
0:25:27 > 0:25:30Pipkin was a very small penguin
0:25:30 > 0:25:33who was always asking very big questions -
0:25:33 > 0:25:36"How wide is the sea?"
0:25:36 > 0:25:38"How high is the sky?"
0:25:38 > 0:25:41"Is the moon made of cheese?"
0:25:41 > 0:25:45But the thing he wanted to know most of all was,
0:25:45 > 0:25:48How Big Is A Million?
0:25:48 > 0:25:52He went to ask his mama, but she was busy catching breakfast.
0:25:52 > 0:25:57It's important to have a full tummy when asking big questions.
0:25:57 > 0:26:02Pipkin counted the fish his mama had caught and found there were ten.
0:26:02 > 0:26:06"Ten's a big number of fish for breakfast," he said.
0:26:06 > 0:26:10"But if ten's this big, how big is a million?"
0:26:10 > 0:26:16"A million's more fish than you could ever eat," said mama.
0:26:16 > 0:26:21"A million's much, much more than ten."
0:26:21 > 0:26:25Pipkin thought about this for a while.
0:26:25 > 0:26:31He tried to imagine much, much more than ten.
0:26:31 > 0:26:33"No good," he said at last.
0:26:33 > 0:26:38"I'll have to go and find a million to know for sure how big it is."
0:26:38 > 0:26:43"Good luck!" called mama as she watched him go.
0:26:43 > 0:26:47Pipkin walked a little way and found a crowd of penguins.
0:26:47 > 0:26:51They were all huddled in a circle keeping warm.
0:26:51 > 0:26:54"That's a lot of penguins," Pipkin thought.
0:26:54 > 0:26:57"There are much, much more than ten."
0:26:57 > 0:26:59"Excuse me!" he called.
0:26:59 > 0:27:02"How many of you are there?"
0:27:02 > 0:27:05"A hundred!" said the middle penguin,
0:27:05 > 0:27:08"and I'm the warmest one of all."
0:27:08 > 0:27:12"A hundred's a very big number," said Pipkin.
0:27:12 > 0:27:16"If a hundred's this big, how big is a million?!"
0:27:16 > 0:27:20"A million's much bigger than a hundred," the penguin said.
0:27:20 > 0:27:26"But a hundred is enough to keep you warm. Would you like to join us?"
0:27:26 > 0:27:30"No thank you," said Pipkin. "I have to find a million."
0:27:30 > 0:27:34He set off again through the deep, white snow.
0:27:34 > 0:27:38After a while, his feet got tired of walking.
0:27:38 > 0:27:43So he slid on his tummy down a long, steep hill.
0:27:43 > 0:27:46He bumped into a seal cub who was doing the same.
0:27:46 > 0:27:53Then, ever so quietly, it began to snow.
0:27:53 > 0:27:57"That's a lot of snowflakes," Pipkin whispered.
0:27:57 > 0:28:01"There are more than a hundred and much, much more than ten."
0:28:01 > 0:28:04"Do you think there are a million?"
0:28:04 > 0:28:07"No," said the seal cub.
0:28:07 > 0:28:09"But I'm sure there are a thousand."
0:28:09 > 0:28:12And there REALLY were.
0:28:12 > 0:28:16"A thousand is a really big number," said Pipkin.
0:28:16 > 0:28:21"If a thousand's this big, how big is a million?!"
0:28:21 > 0:28:25The seal cub wrinkled his nose.
0:28:25 > 0:28:27"Well," he said,
0:28:27 > 0:28:31"a million's much, much bigger than a thousand.
0:28:31 > 0:28:35Pipkin and the seal cub built a snow penguin
0:28:35 > 0:28:37and a snow seal cub
0:28:37 > 0:28:40and threw far too many snowballs to count.
0:28:40 > 0:28:46Then Pipkin said, "I really have to go, I have to find my million."
0:28:46 > 0:28:50"Good luck!" said the seal cub.
0:28:50 > 0:28:56Pipkin walked... and walked...and walked...
0:28:56 > 0:29:00all around the South Pole and back home again.
0:29:00 > 0:29:03His toes were cold and he was sleepy all over.
0:29:03 > 0:29:09And he hadn't found a million of anything at all.
0:29:09 > 0:29:13Pipkin was a very, very disappointed penguin.
0:29:13 > 0:29:15He said to his mama,
0:29:15 > 0:29:18"I found ten yummy fish,
0:29:18 > 0:29:20"a hundred warm penguins,
0:29:20 > 0:29:25"a thousand pretty snowflakes and a brand-new friend,
0:29:25 > 0:29:31"but I couldn't find a million however hard I tried."
0:29:31 > 0:29:35Mama gave him a big, warm hug.
0:29:35 > 0:29:37"Come outside," she said,
0:29:37 > 0:29:42"I've got something to show you."
0:29:42 > 0:29:46"Here's your million, my little Pip."
0:29:46 > 0:29:51"You can make a wish on every single one."
0:29:51 > 0:29:55And that story was called, How Big Is A Million.
0:29:55 > 0:29:57Have you ever wished on a star?
0:29:57 > 0:30:00Why don't you make a wish now?
0:30:00 > 0:30:02And then it's time for bed.
0:30:02 > 0:30:04I'll see you soon for another story.
0:30:04 > 0:30:06Night, night.
0:30:06 > 0:30:11Now, just how many leaves are on these trees? Where was I?
0:30:11 > 0:30:16207...
