0:15:50 > 0:15:57.
0:16:09 > 0:16:12Pffffff!
0:16:12 > 0:16:14Wish I'd caught something.
0:16:14 > 0:16:16Oh, hello! I'm David.
0:16:16 > 0:16:20I was saying, I wish I'd caught something when I was fishing today.
0:16:20 > 0:16:23Wouldn't have minded what I caught.
0:16:23 > 0:16:25A welly boot would've been useful.
0:16:25 > 0:16:29It rains a lot this time of year and I've lost a welly, look at that.
0:16:29 > 0:16:35A bicycle might have been a bit big, but I could do with a new bicycle.
0:16:35 > 0:16:38The girl in tonight's story likes fishing,
0:16:38 > 0:16:40and she likes wishing too.
0:16:40 > 0:16:42Let's find out what she wishes for.
0:16:42 > 0:16:46The story is by Stephen Mackey and it's called Miki.
0:16:46 > 0:16:51A long time ago and very far away,
0:16:51 > 0:16:54there was a place that was always cold and dark.
0:16:54 > 0:16:56Nothing grew in this icy world.
0:16:56 > 0:17:01"I wish we could find just a little tree", said Miki to Penguin.
0:17:01 > 0:17:05At once, a little tree sprang up in front of them,
0:17:05 > 0:17:08but the tree looked lonely and bare.
0:17:08 > 0:17:10Miki and Penguin took it home.
0:17:10 > 0:17:14"I wish we had some pretty lights", said Miki.
0:17:14 > 0:17:17A string of fairy lights suddenly appeared!
0:17:17 > 0:17:20Miki draped them over the little tree.
0:17:20 > 0:17:23"If only we could make them twinkle", she said.
0:17:23 > 0:17:27The very next moment, a twinkle machine appeared.
0:17:27 > 0:17:31Penguin climbed aboard and pedalled faster and faster.
0:17:31 > 0:17:34The little lights began to glitter,
0:17:34 > 0:17:36throwing sparkly beams over the snow.
0:17:36 > 0:17:40But soon, Penguin's feet were tired and sore.
0:17:40 > 0:17:42The pretty lights faded.
0:17:42 > 0:17:46"We need someone stronger", he sighed.
0:17:46 > 0:17:48Miki and Penguin jumped.
0:17:48 > 0:17:51Polar Bear appeared from nowhere.
0:17:51 > 0:17:55He was the strongest creature in the land,
0:17:55 > 0:17:58and beside him was a windmill.
0:17:58 > 0:18:02Polar Bear huffed and puffed and the little lights shone bright.
0:18:02 > 0:18:06But even the strongest creature can run out of breath.
0:18:06 > 0:18:09Soon, the friends were in darkness again.
0:18:09 > 0:18:10"I wish...",
0:18:10 > 0:18:13said Miki, as she fished for supper.
0:18:13 > 0:18:18"..I could catch a star. A star would shine forever."
0:18:18 > 0:18:20Suddenly, there was a big tug on her rod...
0:18:20 > 0:18:23- SPLASH - ..and Miki was gone.
0:18:23 > 0:18:25"Help", called Penguin.
0:18:25 > 0:18:28Polar Bear looked into the fishing hole.
0:18:28 > 0:18:31Miki was nowhere to be seen.
0:18:31 > 0:18:33But down in the deep blue ocean,
0:18:33 > 0:18:37Miki was safe in the magic of Midwinter Eve.
0:18:37 > 0:18:41A gentle giant was taking her on a journey.
0:18:41 > 0:18:46She gazed with awe at the strange, wonderful creatures.
0:18:46 > 0:18:49There were sea urchins, eels and...
0:18:49 > 0:18:51jellyfish.
0:18:51 > 0:18:53"Oh, dear", cried Miki.
0:18:53 > 0:18:56But he only wanted to show them the way.
0:18:56 > 0:18:59He waved his tingly-tangly tentacles.
0:18:59 > 0:19:02"We're here", said the gentle giant.
0:19:02 > 0:19:08Miki dreamily floated down until she reached the ocean floor.
0:19:09 > 0:19:10Back on the ice,
0:19:10 > 0:19:14Polar Bear bravely decided to dive down to search for Miki.
0:19:14 > 0:19:17Down, down he went,
0:19:17 > 0:19:20but there was no sign of his little friend.
0:19:20 > 0:19:23On the ocean floor, Miki had fallen asleep,
0:19:23 > 0:19:27safely snuggled inside a sea flower.
0:19:27 > 0:19:29She was awoken by a gentle tickle.
0:19:29 > 0:19:33A tiny octopus danced in front of her.
0:19:33 > 0:19:36"Come with me", he said.
0:19:36 > 0:19:41Miki parted the petals. A wonderful sight met her eyes.
0:19:41 > 0:19:45In front of her were 100 twinkling stars.
0:19:47 > 0:19:49Back on the ice,
0:19:49 > 0:19:51Polar Bear popped back through the hole.
0:19:51 > 0:19:54"No sign of her", he sighed.
0:19:54 > 0:19:57"I wish I could dive down", said Penguin.
0:19:57 > 0:20:00At once, Penguin found himself dressed
0:20:00 > 0:20:03in a little penguin diving suit.
0:20:03 > 0:20:06"Lower me down, Polar Bear", he cried.
0:20:07 > 0:20:09Down he went.
0:20:09 > 0:20:12All the time he looked about, calling out for his friend.
0:20:12 > 0:20:15But his voice was too small to hear.
0:20:15 > 0:20:18Penguin had never been so deep in the sea before.
0:20:18 > 0:20:23The watery world was full of strange and fearsome creatures.
0:20:23 > 0:20:25"Pull me up, Polar Bear", he cried.
0:20:25 > 0:20:29Polar Bear hauled him up, just in time.
0:20:29 > 0:20:33"No sign of her", said Penguin sadly.
0:20:33 > 0:20:35"But we must never give up".
0:20:35 > 0:20:39At the bottom of the ocean, the magic was wearing thin.
0:20:39 > 0:20:41Miki knew it was time to go home.
0:20:41 > 0:20:46The tiny octopus took her to his mother.
0:20:46 > 0:20:49Polar Bear was getting ready to search again, when...
0:20:49 > 0:20:54there was a rumble, a splinter...and a crack!
0:20:54 > 0:20:55CRACK
0:20:55 > 0:20:59The little fishing hole was opening up, bigger...
0:20:59 > 0:21:03and bigger. The ice started to move beneath their feet
0:21:03 > 0:21:06and the ground heaved and...shattered!
0:21:06 > 0:21:10And the biggest creature the friends had ever seen
0:21:10 > 0:21:12shot out of the fishing hole.
0:21:12 > 0:21:18There, nestled safely in its long arms, was Miki -
0:21:18 > 0:21:22just in time. It was nearly midnight and the magic was running out.
0:21:22 > 0:21:27And in Miki's pocket was a sparkling star -
0:21:27 > 0:21:31a star that would shine forever.
0:21:31 > 0:21:34On Midwinter Eve When the icy wind blew
0:21:34 > 0:21:38The moon weaved her magic And wishes came true
0:21:38 > 0:21:42The little star shone For all it was worth
0:21:42 > 0:21:47And spread Midwinter light All over the Earth.
0:21:47 > 0:21:49And that story was called Miki.
0:21:49 > 0:21:52Oh, oh... Oh!
0:21:52 > 0:21:56Look... I've caught a shining star.
0:21:56 > 0:22:00A star that can shine all night long,
0:22:00 > 0:22:04while you sleep and have lovely dreams of polar bears and penguins
0:22:04 > 0:22:06and octopi.
0:22:06 > 0:22:09I'll see you soon for another story. Night-night.
0:22:09 > 0:22:11Now, what else could I catch?
0:22:11 > 0:22:16Hmm, I wish, I wish I can catch the moon.
