0:28:09 > 0:28:11Oh, hello. I'm Sheila.

0:28:11 > 0:28:15I was just looking up at the moon.

0:28:15 > 0:28:20It looks so big and round and bright.

0:28:20 > 0:28:24Sometimes when you stand on tiptoe and reach up,

0:28:24 > 0:28:26you think you can nearly touch it.

0:28:26 > 0:28:30Well, there's a moon in tonight's story,

0:28:30 > 0:28:34it's by David Conway and Dubravka Kolanovic.

0:28:34 > 0:28:38And the story is called Shine Moon Shine.

0:28:40 > 0:28:44One snowy night in a great big city,

0:28:44 > 0:28:47the moon fell from the sky

0:28:47 > 0:28:51and landed on top of a very tall building.

0:28:51 > 0:28:56The people in the neighbourhood tried to put the moon back into the sky

0:28:56 > 0:29:00but every time they tried, the moon fell again.

0:29:00 > 0:29:06That night, a young boy named Ata sat with the moon to keep it company.

0:29:06 > 0:29:09the moon warmed towards Ata for his kindness

0:29:09 > 0:29:12and told him why it had fallen out of the night sky

0:29:12 > 0:29:15and why it did not want to return.

0:29:15 > 0:29:19"It's so dark up there," the moon told Ata.

0:29:19 > 0:29:21"It makes me feel so lonely."

0:29:21 > 0:29:25Ata wanted to help the moon so the following morning

0:29:25 > 0:29:29he got up early and captured sunbeams in a bucket

0:29:29 > 0:29:33and that night, he carried them to the very tall building.

0:29:33 > 0:29:36Ata climbed the stairs higher and higher,

0:29:36 > 0:29:40and when he reached the top where the moon sat pale and pensive,

0:29:40 > 0:29:45he released the sunbeams into the inky sky.

0:29:45 > 0:29:50When this was done, the dark night didn't look so dark any more.

0:29:50 > 0:29:54But the sunbeams didn't stay, and as quickly as they had appeared,

0:29:54 > 0:29:57they melted away.

0:29:57 > 0:30:01The next day, Ata found a box of old torches

0:30:01 > 0:30:04and carried them to the very tall building.

0:30:04 > 0:30:08Again, Ata climbed the stairs higher and higher,

0:30:08 > 0:30:10and when he reached the very top,

0:30:10 > 0:30:14Ata filled the night with beacons of light.

0:30:14 > 0:30:20When this was done, the dark night didn't look so dark any more.

0:30:20 > 0:30:25But, the beacons of light began to wane and slowly grew dimmer.

0:30:25 > 0:30:29Then one by one, they all went out.

0:30:29 > 0:30:33On the third day, Ata found a ladder

0:30:33 > 0:30:36and carried this to the very tall building.

0:30:36 > 0:30:40Once again, Ata climbed the stairs higher and higher,

0:30:40 > 0:30:44and when he reached the very top, Ata pushed his hands

0:30:44 > 0:30:49through the cold dark night and made holes to let the daylight in.

0:30:49 > 0:30:52But the holes in the tender night didn't stay

0:30:52 > 0:30:59and slowly began to close until the sky was very dark again.

0:30:59 > 0:31:02Ata sat in the roof's cold snow,

0:31:02 > 0:31:05sad that the night could not have a moon,

0:31:05 > 0:31:09and sad that the moon would never have a home.

0:31:09 > 0:31:14As the tears fell from his eyes and landed on the soft white snow,

0:31:14 > 0:31:20they became cold, so cold, that they began to freeze.

0:31:20 > 0:31:23When Ata noticed this he stopped crying

0:31:23 > 0:31:26and picked up one of his frozen tears.

0:31:26 > 0:31:30As it glistened in the darkness, he had an idea.

0:31:30 > 0:31:34Ata gathered up his frozen tears from the soft white snow

0:31:34 > 0:31:39and threw them far and wide into the inky sky.

0:31:39 > 0:31:43"If you go back home now," said Ata to the moon,

0:31:43 > 0:31:46"You'll never be lonely again."

0:31:46 > 0:31:48The moon trusted Ata

0:31:48 > 0:31:55and slowly but surely sailed away up into the darkness.

0:31:55 > 0:32:02Then Ata cried at the top of his voice, "Shine, moon, shine!"

0:32:02 > 0:32:04As Ata said this,

0:32:04 > 0:32:09the moon's bright beams poured into the frozen tears,

0:32:09 > 0:32:12filling them with such rich moonlight

0:32:12 > 0:32:15that they lit up the night in a spectacular display.

0:32:15 > 0:32:20All the people in the neighbourhood cheered and sang and clapped

0:32:20 > 0:32:25and danced as the moon illuminated a new night sky.

0:32:25 > 0:32:28For now the night didn't look so dark any more

0:32:28 > 0:32:32and thanks to Ata and his frozen tears,

0:32:32 > 0:32:36the moon was never lonely again.

0:32:36 > 0:32:41That story was called Shine Moon Shine.

0:32:41 > 0:32:47Well, now the moon is happy, it must be time for you to go to bed.

0:32:47 > 0:32:49I'll see you soon for another story.

0:32:49 > 0:32:54Night-night. I'm just going to go and say goodnight to the moon.

0:32:58 > 0:33:00Goodnight, moon.
