0:23:12 > 0:23:15And as for YOU, why don't you wear ribbons?
0:23:15 > 0:23:16People love cows with ribbons.
0:23:16 > 0:23:19Oh, hello. I'm Shane. I'm judging the cows.
0:23:19 > 0:23:23Which one looks best to win the CBeebies Amazing Animal contest?
0:23:23 > 0:23:25It's very difficult to decide.
0:23:25 > 0:23:27This one's got a lovely shiny coat,
0:23:27 > 0:23:29but then, you know, this one is quite smiley.
0:23:29 > 0:23:33Well, the farmer's wife in tonight's bedtime story
0:23:33 > 0:23:35has the same problem.
0:23:35 > 0:23:39Which farmyard baby cow should win the contest? Let's find out.
0:23:39 > 0:23:42The story is by Andy Cutbill and Russell Ayto
0:23:42 > 0:23:44and it's called The Best Cow In Show.
0:23:45 > 0:23:49One morning, Marjorie the cow woke up with a bolt.
0:23:49 > 0:23:52BANG! BANG! BANG!
0:23:52 > 0:23:56The farmer's wife was hammering up a poster in the yard. BANG!
0:23:56 > 0:23:58BANG!
0:23:58 > 0:24:03"Ooh, it's a beautiful baby contest," read Derek the bull.
0:24:03 > 0:24:08"This afternoon, before tea, strictly cows only."
0:24:08 > 0:24:11"Ooh!" said all the lady cows.
0:24:11 > 0:24:13They were terribly excited. So was Marjorie.
0:24:13 > 0:24:17Her baby Daisy had been a very special cow
0:24:17 > 0:24:20since the very moment she hatched from an egg.
0:24:20 > 0:24:23All the baby cows started practising for the contest.
0:24:23 > 0:24:26Their mums taught them to swish their tails, trot up and down,
0:24:26 > 0:24:28and moo delightfully.
0:24:28 > 0:24:30Marjorie wanted to help Daisy,
0:24:30 > 0:24:33but Daisy was too busy with the chickens.
0:24:33 > 0:24:35The other cows were starting to talk.
0:24:35 > 0:24:38"Oh, Daisy's very small for a cow."
0:24:38 > 0:24:41"We hear she's not even chewing the cud yet."
0:24:41 > 0:24:44Marjorie didn't listen. She knew that Daisy was perfect.
0:24:44 > 0:24:47Soon, it was time for the contest to begin.
0:24:47 > 0:24:50Derek herded the spectators into the yard.
0:24:50 > 0:24:52"Good luck, Marj!" called the chickens.
0:24:52 > 0:24:55There were babies everywhere.
0:24:55 > 0:24:57A nervous hush fell over the barn
0:24:57 > 0:24:59as the farmer's wife appeared.
0:24:59 > 0:25:03Carefully, she studied each baby - checked behind their ears,
0:25:03 > 0:25:06tried them around the yard for a bit.
0:25:06 > 0:25:08Finally, she reached Daisy.
0:25:08 > 0:25:12"What a fine specimen!" she said. But as the farmer's wife bent down,
0:25:12 > 0:25:16Daisy noticed something wriggling in her hat.
0:25:16 > 0:25:19A big, fat, juicy worm!
0:25:19 > 0:25:24GULP! Daisy swallowed it whole.
0:25:24 > 0:25:25The farmer's wife turned green.
0:25:25 > 0:25:30"A ch-ch-ch-chicken?" she spluttered, and she fainted.
0:25:30 > 0:25:32Thud!
0:25:32 > 0:25:35"Well, I never!" whispered the other cows.
0:25:35 > 0:25:38They began to laugh - hahaha!
0:25:40 > 0:25:42Soon the whole yard was in hysterics.
0:25:42 > 0:25:45Marjorie scooped Daisy into her arms.
0:25:45 > 0:25:48"Daisy might not be like your babies," she said,
0:25:48 > 0:25:51"but she's mine and I love her."
0:25:51 > 0:25:53Well, you could almost hear a pin drop.
0:25:53 > 0:25:57"Glad to hear it!" said Derek, all of a sudden,
0:25:57 > 0:26:02and he promptly slapped a large rosette on Marjorie's chest.
0:26:02 > 0:26:06"Best in show!" he said. "For being a perfect mum."
0:26:06 > 0:26:11Derek gave Marjorie a big, wet kiss.
0:26:11 > 0:26:15"Ahh," sighed the chickens, and Marjorie blushed all over.
0:26:15 > 0:26:18And that story was called The Best Cow In Show.
0:26:18 > 0:26:22Maybe that's my problem. I should be looking for an animal
0:26:22 > 0:26:26that's a bit different, to award the CBeebies Amazing Animal trophy.
0:26:26 > 0:26:29Maybe there's a chicken round here - or maybe a dinosaur!

0:26:31 > 0:26:35Well, while I look for a winner, it's time for you to go to bed.
0:26:35 > 0:26:38And I'll see you soon for another story. Night-night.
