0:17:02 > 0:17:05CBeebies Bedtime Story.
0:17:06 > 0:17:10Now...what can I see under here?
0:17:11 > 0:17:16Oh, hello! I'm Patrick. I'm trying to see what's under the bed.
0:17:16 > 0:17:20I really want to know what's under the floor, too.
0:17:20 > 0:17:25I'm sure it's very different to what we can see here.
0:17:25 > 0:17:29There's a little mole in tonight's bedtime story
0:17:29 > 0:17:33who wants to know what it's like up above.
0:17:33 > 0:17:38He wants to see the sky. Shall we find out about him?
0:17:38 > 0:17:43The story is by Julia Hubury and Mary McQuillan
0:17:43 > 0:17:48and it's called Wishmoley And The Little Piece Of Sky.
0:17:48 > 0:17:51Down in the dark, delicious earth,
0:17:51 > 0:17:55most moles are happy dig, dig, digging.
0:17:55 > 0:18:00But Wishmoley wanted more. He wished to see the world above.
0:18:00 > 0:18:06"Above is too big and bright for a little mole," said his mummy.
0:18:06 > 0:18:11"Look at your spadey paws and your lovely, shovelly nose.
0:18:11 > 0:18:16"Moles are made for digging. Moles are made for under."
0:18:16 > 0:18:20Wishmoley tried to be a good, happy digger
0:18:20 > 0:18:27but he couldn't help wondering if above was better than under.
0:18:27 > 0:18:34So, one day he tunnelled up, up, up and popped his head above.
0:18:34 > 0:18:38He looked at the busy, bustling world.
0:18:38 > 0:18:43It was all so strange and new, he felt afraid.
0:18:43 > 0:18:47But then he looked up at the sky.
0:18:47 > 0:18:52It was calm and blue. It was beautiful.
0:18:52 > 0:18:58He wished he could have his own little piece of sky.
0:18:58 > 0:19:02Then, from way up high, something fell.
0:19:02 > 0:19:09Something smooth and round and warm and as blue as the sky.
0:19:09 > 0:19:13"Thank you," whispered Wishmoley.
0:19:13 > 0:19:19Then he carefully picked up his piece of sky and carried it under.
0:19:19 > 0:19:23"Look, Mummy, it's from above," he said,
0:19:23 > 0:19:28"I wished for some of the beautiful blue and down it came."
0:19:28 > 0:19:34Wishmoley treasured his piece of sky and took it with him everywhere.
0:19:34 > 0:19:39One morning the little piece of sky began to quiver.
0:19:39 > 0:19:45A tap, tap, tapping came from inside. Louder and louder.
0:19:45 > 0:19:52Suddenly it broke apart and a tiny, ugly little thing crept out.
0:19:52 > 0:19:56It snuggled next to Wishmoley, cheeping.
0:19:56 > 0:19:58"What is it?" he cried.
0:19:58 > 0:20:04"It's a baby," said Mummy, "And it needs to be loved."
0:20:04 > 0:20:11Wishmoley soon had lots of digging to do, his baby needed worms and grubs,
0:20:11 > 0:20:13so he dug and dug to find them.
0:20:13 > 0:20:20Then she grew too big for her little nest, so he had to dig another one.
0:20:20 > 0:20:25And still Baby grew, so he dug another.
0:20:25 > 0:20:26And another.
0:20:26 > 0:20:32Wishmoley was happy digging because Baby loved him and he loved Baby.
0:20:32 > 0:20:37She sang while he worked and she tried to help,
0:20:37 > 0:20:40but Baby wasn't made for digging.
0:20:40 > 0:20:45She had the wrong kind of paws and she couldn't shovel at all.
0:20:45 > 0:20:51She cheeped sadly. "Baby is crying," Wishmoley told Mummy.
0:20:51 > 0:20:57Wishmoley wished he could make Baby happy again.
0:20:57 > 0:20:59Mummy hugged him tightly,
0:20:59 > 0:21:05"You have to be brave to make her happy," she said,
0:21:05 > 0:21:11"For Baby is a bird and she doesn't belong under,
0:21:11 > 0:21:15"she belongs above."
0:21:15 > 0:21:20So Wishmoley dug up, up, up above.
0:21:20 > 0:21:27Baby flapped the dirt off her wings and hopped and fluttered happily.
0:21:27 > 0:21:34She flapped and hopped and fluttered until Baby flew.
0:21:34 > 0:21:41As Wishmoley watched her, he felt proud...and sad.
0:21:41 > 0:21:45"Why are you sad?" Baby asked.
0:21:45 > 0:21:48"Because someday you'll fly higher than high
0:21:48 > 0:21:51"and the blue will fill your eyes
0:21:51 > 0:21:56"and maybe you'll forget to come down," said Wishmoley.
0:21:56 > 0:22:02Baby snuggled next to him. "I'll never forget," she said.
0:22:02 > 0:22:07One bright morning a bird, just like Baby,
0:22:07 > 0:22:14swooped through the sky and Baby flew up to say hello.
0:22:14 > 0:22:19Wishmoley watched and he knew he had to be very brave.
0:22:19 > 0:22:26When she flew down he kissed her. "You're not a baby anymore," he said.
0:22:26 > 0:22:31"It's time to fly with the other birds, where you belong."
0:22:31 > 0:22:36"But you'll be sad!" cried Baby.
0:22:36 > 0:22:39"Oh, no," said Wishmoley,
0:22:39 > 0:22:45"I'll be happy dig, dig, digging and thinking of you up in the blue."
0:22:45 > 0:22:50Baby hugged Wishmoley, then up she flew.
0:22:50 > 0:22:53Up and away.
0:22:53 > 0:22:58Most moles are happiest dig, dig, digging,
0:22:58 > 0:23:04but sometimes a little mole comes up above and listens
0:23:04 > 0:23:08as a song falls from the sky.
0:23:08 > 0:23:12And he smiles.
0:23:13 > 0:23:19That story was called Wishmoley And The Little Piece Of Sky.
0:23:19 > 0:23:24Maybe you can see Baby flying in the sky tomorrow.
0:23:24 > 0:23:30But right now it's time for you to go to bed and sleep.
0:23:30 > 0:23:35I'll see you soon for another story. Goodnight.
0:23:35 > 0:23:41Now, maybe I can see what Mole sees if I look under here.
