0:10:25 > 0:10:26Whereas this...

0:10:26 > 0:10:29Whoom. ..sandwich hug.

0:10:29 > 0:10:31Hugs are lovely.

0:10:33 > 0:10:37Douglas in tonight's Bedtime Story is looking for the perfect hug.

0:10:37 > 0:10:40I wonder what kind of hug that is.

0:10:40 > 0:10:41Let's find out.

0:10:41 > 0:10:46The story is by David Melling and is called Hugless Douglas.

0:10:47 > 0:10:51One spring morning, a big "yawh!"

0:10:51 > 0:10:54came from the back of a deep dark cave.

0:10:54 > 0:10:59It was a young brown bear and his name was Douglas.

0:10:59 > 0:11:02"I need a hug," said Douglas.

0:11:02 > 0:11:04So he wriggled out of his pyjamas,

0:11:04 > 0:11:05brushed his hair,

0:11:05 > 0:11:07put on a scarf

0:11:07 > 0:11:10and went to look for one.

0:11:10 > 0:11:14"My best hugs are big," thought Douglas.

0:11:14 > 0:11:18So he went up to the biggest thing he could find,

0:11:18 > 0:11:22wrapped his arms all the way around and gave it a squeeze.

0:11:22 > 0:11:25It didn't feel quite right.

0:11:25 > 0:11:30"Ooh," grunted Douglas, "It's a bit too heavy.

0:11:30 > 0:11:31THUMP!

0:11:31 > 0:11:35"My best hugs are tall," thought Douglas.

0:11:35 > 0:11:39So he went up to the tallest thing he could find.

0:11:39 > 0:11:43He hugged the bottom, he hugged around the middle

0:11:43 > 0:11:47and he hugged as high as he could, but it all went wrong,

0:11:47 > 0:11:49and it had splinters.

0:11:50 > 0:11:54"My best hugs are comfy," thought Douglas.

0:11:54 > 0:11:57He trotted towards a cosy-looking bush.

0:11:57 > 0:12:01He cuddled the bush, but something felt very odd.

0:12:01 > 0:12:04Leaves quivered...and trembled...

0:12:04 > 0:12:06and ran away! BAA, BAA!

0:12:06 > 0:12:10"Give us a hug," cried Douglas.

0:12:10 > 0:12:14"No," baa-ed the sheep, "We're too busy."

0:12:14 > 0:12:18He scooped up armfuls anyway and tried to cuddle them gently,

0:12:18 > 0:12:22but they kicked and squirmed and didn't like it at all.

0:12:22 > 0:12:23Poor Douglas.

0:12:23 > 0:12:27"Why can't I find a hug?" he said.

0:12:27 > 0:12:33"If I want a hug," said a wise owl, "I sit in my tree and..."

0:12:33 > 0:12:37"Let me try!" whooped Douglas and he scrambled up next to the owl.

0:12:37 > 0:12:41He soon found himself in a clumsy muddle.

0:12:41 > 0:12:45"Too-twit!" said the owl crossly.

0:12:45 > 0:12:49"I only wanted a hug," sniffed Douglas.

0:12:49 > 0:12:52"Perhaps there's one down here."

0:12:52 > 0:12:56He felt something long-eared and rabbity and gave it a tug.

0:12:56 > 0:12:59Douglas could tell the rabbit didn't want a hug.

0:12:59 > 0:13:02He sniffed again, and without thinking,

0:13:02 > 0:13:05wiped his nose on the fluffy end.

0:13:05 > 0:13:08"Excuse me!" shouted the rabbit.

0:13:08 > 0:13:10"Put me down!"

0:13:10 > 0:13:14"But I need a hug," said Douglas.

0:13:14 > 0:13:16"And I can't find one anywhere."

0:13:16 > 0:13:20"Oh. I see," said the rabbit kindly.

0:13:20 > 0:13:22"Come with me."

0:13:22 > 0:13:24He took Douglas by the paw

0:13:24 > 0:13:27and led him round and about.

0:13:27 > 0:13:30At last, they came to a deep, dark cave

0:13:30 > 0:13:33where a sleepy someone was just waking up.

0:13:33 > 0:13:37"Yawhhhh!"

0:13:37 > 0:13:39Douglas peeped inside.

0:13:39 > 0:13:44He had the funniest feeling that he knew the someone very well.

0:13:44 > 0:13:50"Hug?" asked Douglas and ran as fast as he could towards...

0:13:50 > 0:13:52his mum.

0:13:52 > 0:13:58"Come to think of it, my best hugs are from someone I love,"

0:13:58 > 0:13:59said Douglas.

0:13:59 > 0:14:04And he snuggled into the biggest warmest arms he knew.

0:14:04 > 0:14:08That story was called Hugless Douglas,

0:14:08 > 0:14:10but Douglas isn't hugless any more,

0:14:10 > 0:14:13he found his perfect hug.

0:14:13 > 0:14:17I wonder if the sheep can manage a daisy-chain hug.

0:14:17 > 0:14:18Hmm.

0:14:18 > 0:14:20This could take some time.

0:14:20 > 0:14:24Well, while I sort out the sheep, it's time for you to go to bed.

0:14:24 > 0:14:28But I'll see you soon for another Bedtime Story.

0:14:28 > 0:14:32Good night. Come on, sheep. Rabbit, want to be part of it?

0:14:32 > 0:14:36OK. Daisy-chain hug! Wahey!

0:14:36 > 0:14:37Ah, there we go.

0:14:37 > 0:14:39Hmm.

0:14:39 > 0:14:40Can I join in?

0:14:40 > 0:14:42Can I go in the middle?

0:14:43 > 0:14:46Oh! Oh... Aw, that's good.

0:14:46 > 0:14:49Oh, no, that's really good.

0:14:49 > 0:14:50I'm going to stay here.

0:14:50 > 0:14:55Rabbit, sheep? OK. Just wake me up when it's waking-up time. Thanks.
