0:00:27 > 0:00:29Can you see the moon?

0:00:29 > 0:00:32Has the sun disappeared because it's the end of the day?

0:00:32 > 0:00:34In tonight's Bedtime Story,

0:00:34 > 0:00:38the sun is just about to come up at the beginning of the day.

0:00:38 > 0:00:41But I'm going to let the animals tell you about it.

0:00:41 > 0:00:44The story is by Jeanne Willis and Sarah Fox-Davies

0:00:44 > 0:00:48and it's called Mole's Sunrise.

0:00:48 > 0:00:50Vole got up just before dawn.

0:00:50 > 0:00:53Mole was eating breakfast, but Vole didn't have time.

0:00:53 > 0:00:56"Where are you off to in such a hurry?" asked Mole.

0:00:56 > 0:00:59"I want to see the sunrise," said Vole.

0:00:59 > 0:01:01Mole had never seen the sunrise.

0:01:01 > 0:01:04"It's beautiful," said Vole. "I'd love to see it," said Mole.

0:01:04 > 0:01:07"Come with me," said Vole.

0:01:07 > 0:01:10Off they went, hand in hand.

0:01:10 > 0:01:12"Are we going very far?" asked Mole.

0:01:12 > 0:01:16"Only down to the lake," said Vole, "It's the best place.

0:01:16 > 0:01:19"Mind the tree root, Mole."

0:01:19 > 0:01:22Mole felt the damp mist in his fur.

0:01:22 > 0:01:26He heard the crackle of leaves under his feet.

0:01:26 > 0:01:30Mole sniffed the air. He could smell the lake.

0:01:30 > 0:01:32"We're here," he said.

0:01:32 > 0:01:35"Let's sit on the log with the others," said Vole.

0:01:35 > 0:01:37"What others?" asked Mole."

0:01:37 > 0:01:39There was Rabbit, Squirrel and Sparrow.

0:01:39 > 0:01:44Mole and Vole sat with them. "We've come to see the sunrise," said Vole.

0:01:44 > 0:01:48"So have we," said Rabbit. "I hear it's very beautiful," said Mole.

0:01:48 > 0:01:50"I should say so," said Squirrel.

0:01:50 > 0:01:54"Here comes the sun," said Vole, "I can just see the top of its head.

0:01:54 > 0:01:57"It's like the soft yolk of a fried egg."

0:01:57 > 0:02:00"Like the one I had for breakfast," thought Mole.

0:02:00 > 0:02:03"It's rising higher," said Rabbit, "It's up to its middle.

0:02:03 > 0:02:07"It's sizzling in the lake like an egg in a pan of butter.

0:02:07 > 0:02:12"Now it's burst! It's dripping hot, runny, sunny stuff everywhere."

0:02:12 > 0:02:14"That's what happened to my egg," said Mole.

0:02:14 > 0:02:18He wiped the yolk off his waistcoat.

0:02:18 > 0:02:20The sun rose out of the lake.

0:02:20 > 0:02:22"Now the clouds are like scoops

0:02:22 > 0:02:24"of raspberry ice cream," said Rabbit.

0:02:24 > 0:02:28"And blueberry," added Vole, "swirled with steaming custard."

0:02:28 > 0:02:34"Delicious," said Mole, who always swirled custard on his ice cream.

0:02:34 > 0:02:36The sun rose higher and higher.

0:02:36 > 0:02:40"Now it reminds me of a shiny gold button," said Squirrel.

0:02:40 > 0:02:44Mole felt the shiny gold button on his waistcoat.

0:02:44 > 0:02:48The sun was like that, only a zillion times bigger,

0:02:48 > 0:02:50or so everybody said.

0:02:50 > 0:02:52"It only looks as small as a button

0:02:52 > 0:02:54"because it's so far away," said Vole.

0:02:54 > 0:02:58Sparrow said the sun was hotter than the hottest fire -

0:02:58 > 0:03:01"It's so hot it's melting the moody clouds," he said,

0:03:01 > 0:03:05"It's made them as light and fluffy as feather down."

0:03:05 > 0:03:10Mole felt Sparrow's soft feathers. "I get the picture," he said.

0:03:12 > 0:03:18The sun had risen. "So that's what the sunrise looks like," said Mole.

0:03:18 > 0:03:20"Thank you for showing it to me.

0:03:20 > 0:03:22"I never knew it was so beautiful."

0:03:22 > 0:03:27Mole was blind, but at last he'd seen the sunrise.

0:03:27 > 0:03:31He didn't see it with his eyes, he saw it in his mind

0:03:31 > 0:03:36and it was even more beautiful than anyone could imagine.

0:03:37 > 0:03:40That story was called Mole's Sunrise.

0:03:40 > 0:03:43Wasn't the sunrise beautiful?

0:03:43 > 0:03:45Well, it's time for you to go to bed

0:03:45 > 0:03:49and dream about the raspberry ice cream swirling clouds

0:03:49 > 0:03:52and the shiny gold button sun.

0:03:52 > 0:03:56I'll see you soon for another story. Night-night.

0:03:56 > 0:04:00Now, what can we see if we look our of the window?

0:04:00 > 0:04:03What can you see, Rabbit?
