0:10:06 > 0:10:10So, you've got four paws - one, two, three, four...
0:10:10 > 0:10:13And a furry grey coat.
0:10:15 > 0:10:17Let's have a look in my book...
0:10:18 > 0:10:20Oh, hello. I'm Anna.
0:10:20 > 0:10:23Do you know what kind of animal this is?
0:10:23 > 0:10:26I'm just trying to find out. Let's have a look...
0:10:26 > 0:10:31Hmm, it's got four paws, two ears, a tail,
0:10:31 > 0:10:33and a very pointy nose.
0:10:33 > 0:10:37I can't quite find anything like it in my animal book.

0:10:45 > 0:10:50The story is by Richard Byrne and it's called Millicent And Meer.
0:10:50 > 0:10:54One Saturday, Millicent was busy making sandcastles
0:10:54 > 0:10:56in the garden when... BUMP!
0:10:56 > 0:11:00..a big wooden box landed beside her.
0:11:00 > 0:11:02"Ouch!" said the big wooden box.
0:11:02 > 0:11:06Millicent peeped under the lid.
0:11:06 > 0:11:08A dazed looking creature sat inside.
0:11:08 > 0:11:13"Hello in there. Are you OK?" asked Millicent.
0:11:14 > 0:11:19"Oh, I think so," replied the creature, rubbing its head.
0:11:19 > 0:11:22"But I've got no idea who I am or how I got here."
0:11:22 > 0:11:23Millicent giggled.
0:11:23 > 0:11:26"You're funny. Perhaps I can help."
0:11:27 > 0:11:31Millicent spotted a label on the big wooden box -
0:11:31 > 0:11:35"Me-ee-ee-rr....
0:11:35 > 0:11:37"kk-kat."
0:11:38 > 0:11:41"Mystery solved," said Millicent.
0:11:41 > 0:11:44"You're a cat and you're name is Meer. Yipee!
0:11:44 > 0:11:46"I've always wanted a cat!
0:11:46 > 0:11:50"You can be MY cat!" She took Meer indoors.
0:11:50 > 0:11:53Millicent loved her new cat.
0:11:53 > 0:11:58But he did do some very uncatty things.
0:11:58 > 0:12:00And some very naughty things, too.
0:12:00 > 0:12:03Millicent's dad got crosser and crosser.
0:12:03 > 0:12:05"Right, that's it," he said.
0:12:05 > 0:12:09"Meer will have to go outside until he can learn to behave
0:12:09 > 0:12:11"like a proper cat!"
0:12:11 > 0:12:14Millicent didn't like putting Meer outside
0:12:14 > 0:12:17and Meer certainly didn't like being outside.
0:12:17 > 0:12:22Poor Meer. He'd been sitting all alone for some time when...
0:12:22 > 0:12:24a stray cat came strolling past.
0:12:24 > 0:12:27"Hey, why the sad face?" he asked.
0:12:28 > 0:12:33"I have to stay outside until I can learn to behave like a proper cat."
0:12:33 > 0:12:37"Well, old chap. You don't look like much of a cat to me.
0:12:37 > 0:12:39"But today's your lucky day!
0:12:39 > 0:12:43"Marvin's the name and being a cat is my game. Just follow me."
0:12:43 > 0:12:47Being a proper cat was a little tricky at first.
0:12:47 > 0:12:49But Meer soon got the hang of it.
0:12:49 > 0:12:51MARVIN PURRS Then...
0:12:51 > 0:12:53Woof!
0:12:53 > 0:12:55"Dog! Quick, run!" cried Marvin.
0:12:55 > 0:12:57Meer wasn't sure what a dog was
0:12:57 > 0:13:00but he was sure he didn't want to find out.
0:13:00 > 0:13:03Marvin and Meer ran and ran until...
0:13:03 > 0:13:06something caught Meer's eye.
0:13:07 > 0:13:12"Come and see the meerkats at Steve's safari park."
0:13:12 > 0:13:14"Nice move, Meer," said Marvin.
0:13:14 > 0:13:17"We've lost him. Now that was clever.
0:13:17 > 0:13:19"Even if you're NOT a cat."
0:13:19 > 0:13:22"I'm not a cat?" replied Meer.
0:13:23 > 0:13:25"No. Look!
0:13:25 > 0:13:27"You're a meer-kat!"
0:13:29 > 0:13:33Marvin and Meer showed Millicent what they had discovered.
0:13:33 > 0:13:37"So Meer isn't a cat doing naughty things,
0:13:37 > 0:13:42"he's just a meerkat doing meerkat things," said Millicent.
0:13:42 > 0:13:45"That explains everything," said Dad.
0:13:46 > 0:13:49"But it's not fair to keep Meer here.
0:13:49 > 0:13:53"He belongs at the safari park with the rest of his family."
0:13:53 > 0:13:57Later that day, a van arrived to take Meer back to his family.
0:13:57 > 0:13:59Millicent and Marvin waved goodbye.
0:13:59 > 0:14:02They were really going to miss Meer.
0:14:03 > 0:14:08"Are you going home to your family, too, Marvin?" asked Millicent.
0:14:08 > 0:14:10"I don't have a home.
0:14:10 > 0:14:14"Or a family," sighed Marvin sadly.
0:14:15 > 0:14:16"Yipee!" said Millicent.
0:14:16 > 0:14:21"I've always wanted a cat. YOU can be MY cat!"
0:14:21 > 0:14:23She took Marvin indoors.
0:14:23 > 0:14:27Millicent and Marvin did lots of fun things together.
0:14:27 > 0:14:31Millicent loved her new pet and Marvin loved his new home.
0:14:31 > 0:14:36But best of all, every weekend, they went to the safari park
0:14:36 > 0:14:40and did lots of meerkat things with Meer and his family.
0:14:41 > 0:14:44And that story was called Millicent And Meer.
0:14:45 > 0:14:47So that's what you are!
0:14:47 > 0:14:48You're a meerkat.
0:14:48 > 0:14:52I'm so glad I know now so we can plan lots of adventures together.
0:14:52 > 0:14:55Just like Millicent, Marvin and Meer.
0:14:56 > 0:14:59But now it's time for you to go to bed
0:14:59 > 0:15:03and I'll see you soon for another bedtime story. Night-night!
