0:05:50 > 0:05:57.
0:06:06 > 0:06:10Now, then, Duck, if you sleep there next to Rabbit,
0:06:10 > 0:06:14and Mouse, you can tuck in there.
0:06:14 > 0:06:18Hello. I'm Charlie, and I'm just making sure
0:06:18 > 0:06:22that all of the CBeebies animals are ready for bed.
0:06:22 > 0:06:26There are lots of animals who like to be together, just like these,
0:06:26 > 0:06:32in tonight's bedtime story. It's by Alison Green and Deborah Allwright,
0:06:32 > 0:06:36and is called The Fox In The Dark.
0:06:36 > 0:06:40Rabbit runs home. He darts left and right, scampering, scrambling
0:06:40 > 0:06:43through the night. His ears flap, his tail bobs.
0:06:43 > 0:06:47It's going to be tight as he's chased by a fox through the dark.
0:06:47 > 0:06:50"Bang" goes his door and "click" snaps the latch.
0:06:50 > 0:06:55"Thunk" goes the key and "scritch" strikes a match. And...
0:06:55 > 0:06:56"Phew," Rabbit sighs.
0:06:56 > 0:07:01"I've escaped - not a scratch - and I'm safe from that fox in the dark."
0:07:01 > 0:07:04But rat-a-tat-tat. Now, who can that be?
0:07:04 > 0:07:09"Friend or fox?" Rabbit cries. A voice quacks, "Look and see.
0:07:09 > 0:07:12"You'll never find anyone more scared than me
0:07:12 > 0:07:14"of the teeth of a fox in the dark."
0:07:14 > 0:07:17Rabbit peers round the door.
0:07:17 > 0:07:21There's no fox - just a duck, who says, "Please let me in.
0:07:21 > 0:07:25"I've had bad luck. A truck hit a ditch and got stuck in the muck
0:07:25 > 0:07:28"and I've just seen a fox in the dark."
0:07:28 > 0:07:30Rabbit grumbles a bit.
0:07:30 > 0:07:35It's not really his habit to share with a duck a bed made for a rabbit.
0:07:35 > 0:07:38"The duvet is quite small," he says.
0:07:38 > 0:07:42"Try not to grab it, while we hide from the fox in the dark."
0:07:42 > 0:07:46Then rat-a-tat-tat. "Who's that at the door?"
0:07:46 > 0:07:50"It's me," squeaks a voice. "Is there room for one more?"
0:07:50 > 0:07:53"I don't need much space and my paws are so sore.
0:07:53 > 0:07:58"I've just run from a fox in the dark." "Oh, really," sighs Rabbit.
0:07:58 > 0:08:00"The hour is so late."
0:08:00 > 0:08:04But the mouse stood outside is in such a sad state.
0:08:04 > 0:08:08"I'm so tired," he says, "I could hibernate,
0:08:08 > 0:08:11"thanks to that fox in the dark."
0:08:11 > 0:08:15So they squish up together and Duck says, "Nice house."
0:08:15 > 0:08:20And "Thank you so much for your kindness," says Mouse.
0:08:20 > 0:08:23And "Sorry," says Rabbit. "I ought not to grouse.
0:08:23 > 0:08:26"I'm just cross with that fox in the dark."
0:08:26 > 0:08:30But then, rat-a-tat tat. "Who can that be now?
0:08:30 > 0:08:34"If it's a horse or a pig or a cow, they can just stay outside."
0:08:34 > 0:08:40Rabbit furrows his brow. "I'll have words with that fox in the dark."
0:08:40 > 0:08:47Outside is a lamb, who is shaking with fear. "Please may I come in?
0:08:47 > 0:08:51"It looks so safe in here. A big hairy, scary thing barked in my ear
0:08:51 > 0:08:54"and I'm sure it's a fox in the dark."
0:08:54 > 0:09:00The bed is so full that it's starting to creak.
0:09:00 > 0:09:02Rabbit shoves Mouse and Mouse gives a squeak.
0:09:02 > 0:09:06Then Lamb accidentally squashes Duck's beak.
0:09:06 > 0:09:09"Oh, drat that old fox in the dark."
0:09:09 > 0:09:13Then rat-a-tat-tat comes a knock at the door.
0:09:13 > 0:09:16"I'll get it," says Duck, as he bumps to the floor.
0:09:16 > 0:09:20"Not that there's room here for anyone more."
0:09:20 > 0:09:26But outside is...a fox in the dark. "Don't eat us," cries Duck.
0:09:26 > 0:09:28"At least, please don't eat me."
0:09:28 > 0:09:31Rabbit and Lamb dive behind the settee.
0:09:31 > 0:09:35Mouse flings up a paw and shouts, "I need a wee!"
0:09:35 > 0:09:39Then Duck says, "He looks a bit small to me."
0:09:39 > 0:09:42And the fox starts to cry and says, "Please help.
0:09:42 > 0:09:46"You see, I've lost my mum out in the dark."
0:09:46 > 0:09:50"Just what I thought," says Duck. "What a muddle!"
0:09:50 > 0:09:53And Rabbit gives Fox Cub a very big cuddle.
0:09:53 > 0:09:58Then Lamb takes a cloth and cleans up Mouse's puddle.
0:09:58 > 0:10:02"He gets scared by a fox in the dark."
0:10:02 > 0:10:04Then rat-a-tat-tat.
0:10:04 > 0:10:08"Who's that now?" Rabbit sighs as he opens the door.
0:10:08 > 0:10:11Duck says, "That was unwise."
0:10:11 > 0:10:16For outside is a fox of a much bigger size
0:10:16 > 0:10:20looming down at them out of the dark.
0:10:20 > 0:10:25But the fox cries, "My baby! I've searched for you so."
0:10:25 > 0:10:29"And you've found him," quacks Duck, "so off you both go."
0:10:29 > 0:10:31"I don't like to rush you but as you well know,
0:10:31 > 0:10:34"a fox belongs out in the dark."
0:10:34 > 0:10:38"We won't hurt you," says Fox. "Oh, please let us stay.
0:10:38 > 0:10:41"You've all been so kind. We'll keep out of your way.
0:10:41 > 0:10:45"My baby's so tired. Our home's too far away
0:10:45 > 0:10:48"for a fox cub to trot in the dark."
0:10:48 > 0:10:51But Rabbit cries out, "There's no room in the bed.
0:10:51 > 0:10:56"Where on earth will you sleep?" Mummy Fox shakes her head.
0:10:56 > 0:10:59"Who needs a small bed? There's a big fox instead.
0:10:59 > 0:11:01"We can all snuggle up in the dark."
0:11:01 > 0:11:05So they each grab what pillows and rugs can be found.
0:11:05 > 0:11:09Fox lies out comfortably down on the ground.
0:11:09 > 0:11:12Then they yawn and they stretch...
0:11:12 > 0:11:17and they all cuddle round, with the fox that came in from the dark.
0:11:17 > 0:11:22And that story was called The Fox In The Dark.
0:11:22 > 0:11:25So in the end, the fox wasn't scary at all.
0:11:25 > 0:11:30In fact, she was very friendly - and very cosy to sleep on, too!
0:11:30 > 0:11:35Well, I hope you and your animals have a cosy sleep tonight,
0:11:35 > 0:11:39and I'll see you soon for another bedtime story.
0:11:39 > 0:11:43But I've just got to tuck this lot up first. Night-night.
0:11:43 > 0:11:48Come on, no more mucking about. Under the sheets. There you go.
