0:14:03 > 0:14:05CBeebies Bedtime Story!

0:14:06 > 0:14:10Hmm, I'm not sure if this colour suits you, Ted.

0:14:10 > 0:14:13How about a nice bright pink?

0:14:13 > 0:14:15Oh, hello. I'm Shappi.

0:14:15 > 0:14:19I was just talking to Ted about what colour she'd like her hair.

0:14:19 > 0:14:23Not sure I'm a very good hairdresser and I might make a bit of a mess,

0:14:23 > 0:14:28but I do know someone who is, and I'm going to tell you a story about her.

0:14:28 > 0:14:32The story is called The Fairytale Hairdresser,

0:14:32 > 0:14:34or How Rapunzel Got Her Prince!

0:14:34 > 0:14:37And it's by Lauren Beard and Abie Longstaff.

0:14:38 > 0:14:43Kittie Lacey was the best hairdresser in all the land.

0:14:43 > 0:14:47People came from far, far away to have their hair washed

0:14:47 > 0:14:49and combed and cut and styled.

0:14:49 > 0:14:53It was Kittie who brushed the fairy godmother's long locks

0:14:53 > 0:14:56until they sparkled and glittered.

0:14:56 > 0:15:01She found the exact shade of crimson to match Red Riding Hood's cloak.

0:15:01 > 0:15:05And if anyone ever needed a beard or sideburns trim,

0:15:05 > 0:15:07they knew just the place to go.

0:15:07 > 0:15:12Sometimes, Kittie had very difficult cases to deal with.

0:15:12 > 0:15:16There were tall customers and tiny customers

0:15:16 > 0:15:18and some very fussy ones.

0:15:18 > 0:15:24"Too curly. Too straight. Too high. Too low.

0:15:24 > 0:15:27"Just right."

0:15:27 > 0:15:32She was often called out to visit reclusive clients in unusual places.

0:15:32 > 0:15:35Indeed, Kittie was such a good hairdresser,

0:15:35 > 0:15:38she was sure there was no hair she couldn't fix.

0:15:38 > 0:15:43Then, one Saturday, she got her most difficult case of all.

0:15:43 > 0:15:49Up in a high, high tower was a witch with a very big problem.

0:15:49 > 0:15:52Kittie gulped nervously and rang the bell.

0:15:52 > 0:15:57The door creaked open and a golden river of hair flooded out.

0:15:57 > 0:16:02"All this hair is taking over my tower," screeched the witch.

0:16:02 > 0:16:05"I can't see a thing. It's affecting my work,

0:16:05 > 0:16:07"I can't make any evil potions

0:16:07 > 0:16:11"and I'm sure I've lost my glasses in there somewhere."

0:16:11 > 0:16:14Kittie had never seen so much hair.

0:16:14 > 0:16:16It was all tangled and messy and frizzy

0:16:16 > 0:16:19and some of the knots were the size of her fist.

0:16:19 > 0:16:22Was there even a person underneath it?

0:16:22 > 0:16:27Kittie took a deep breath and picked up her comb.

0:16:27 > 0:16:33Bit by bit, she parted the hair until at the centre, she found a girl.

0:16:33 > 0:16:35"I'm Rapunzel," said the girl,

0:16:35 > 0:16:41"Thank goodness you came. I'm having a really bad hair day."

0:16:41 > 0:16:43Kittie smiled. "Don't worry, love.

0:16:43 > 0:16:47"We'll have you looking gorgeous in no time."

0:16:47 > 0:16:50Kittie gathered the hair in a neat pile.

0:16:50 > 0:16:53She sprayed every inch with conditioner,

0:16:53 > 0:16:57then she combed through the knots and trimmed the ends.

0:16:57 > 0:17:01"Ah, that's much better," cackled the witch.

0:17:01 > 0:17:04"Now I can get on with all my evil spells.

0:17:04 > 0:17:08"I need to make a poison apple, and a gingerbread house,

0:17:08 > 0:17:11"and a spindle, but first...

0:17:11 > 0:17:14"First, I have to find a potion

0:17:14 > 0:17:17"to make Kittie forget she was ever here."

0:17:17 > 0:17:22After a whole day of hard work, Rapunzel's hair shimmered.

0:17:22 > 0:17:25It rippled down her back, across the tower floor,

0:17:25 > 0:17:29and curled into a beautiful pile in the corner.

0:17:29 > 0:17:34Rapunzel loved her new hair. "It's so soft," she said.

0:17:34 > 0:17:38"But, oh, Kittie, the witch will never let you leave."

0:17:38 > 0:17:42"Don't worry," said Kittie, "I have a plan."

0:17:42 > 0:17:47Kittie took three heavy bundles of hair and began to plait.

0:17:47 > 0:17:49Then she winked at Rapunzel,

0:17:49 > 0:17:52and threw the long plait out of the window.

0:17:52 > 0:17:56Meanwhile, in the valley below, a very handsome prince was riding by

0:17:56 > 0:18:00when he saw something very unusual lying on the grass.

0:18:00 > 0:18:04The prince followed the plait all the way to the tower

0:18:04 > 0:18:06and to his amazement,

0:18:06 > 0:18:11there he saw a beautiful girl leaning out of the highest window.

0:18:11 > 0:18:16She had the longest, softest, silkiest hair he had ever seen.

0:18:16 > 0:18:20"Hello," said Kittie, climbing down the plait.

0:18:20 > 0:18:24"I'm Kittie and that's my friend, Rapunzel."

0:18:24 > 0:18:29"Oh, Rapunzel!" swooned the prince, gazing up at the window.

0:18:29 > 0:18:36"Oh!" sighed Rapunzel. He really was a very handsome prince.

0:18:36 > 0:18:39Just then, there was a terrible screech.

0:18:39 > 0:18:43"Help!" cried Rapunzel, "The witch is coming."

0:18:43 > 0:18:48"Jump, my love," shouted the prince and he held out his arms.

0:18:48 > 0:18:52Rapunzel jumped and fell all the way down, down, down,

0:18:52 > 0:18:56down into the arms of her prince.

0:18:56 > 0:19:00The next day, the witch had a very different sort of visitor.

0:19:00 > 0:19:04And soon she found it was her turn to be locked away.

0:19:04 > 0:19:08Of course Rapunzel and the prince were married.

0:19:08 > 0:19:13It was the wedding event of the year, everyone was there.

0:19:13 > 0:19:16And guess who was invited to do the bride's hair?

0:19:16 > 0:19:20Kittie Lacey, the best hairdresser in the land.

0:19:22 > 0:19:26And that story was called The Fairytale Hairdresser.

0:19:26 > 0:19:29I think Kittie's given me some good ideas.

0:19:29 > 0:19:32How about some curlers, Ted?

0:19:32 > 0:19:36Well, while I sort out Ted's hair, it's time for you to go to bed.

0:19:36 > 0:19:40And I'll see you soon for another story. Night-night.

0:19:40 > 0:19:44Right then, Ted. Let's get these rollers in.
