0:08:56 > 0:08:59what equipment I need to be a superhero.

0:08:59 > 0:09:03Everything makes sense, even the superhero suit,

0:09:03 > 0:09:06but I'm just not sure about these glasses.

0:09:06 > 0:09:10Apparently, all the really cool superheroes have them.

0:09:10 > 0:09:13There's a superhero in tonight's story.

0:09:13 > 0:09:16It's by Anne Cottringer and Alex T Smith

0:09:16 > 0:09:19and it's called Eliot Jones, Midnight Superhero.

0:09:22 > 0:09:25By day, Eliot is quiet.

0:09:25 > 0:09:29He reads books, he feeds his goldfish.

0:09:29 > 0:09:31He watches Mr Smith wash his car.

0:09:31 > 0:09:36"Eliot is such a quiet little thing," say all the grown-ups.

0:09:36 > 0:09:42Tick, tock. Tick, tock. Bong!

0:09:42 > 0:09:46But when the clock strikes midnight, Eliot is a superhero.

0:09:46 > 0:09:50He hangs out of helicopters, skis down glaciers,

0:09:50 > 0:09:54returns teddies to babies. Sometimes the Mayor needs Eliot's help.

0:09:54 > 0:10:00"The lions have escaped and are rampaging through the streets!"

0:10:00 > 0:10:03But luckily, Eliot is an expert lion tamer.

0:10:03 > 0:10:07He leaps from his bedroom window, races through the crowds

0:10:07 > 0:10:09and comes face to face with lions.

0:10:09 > 0:10:12He stares into the eyes of the roaring beasts.

0:10:12 > 0:10:15One by one, Eliot stops them in their tracks.

0:10:15 > 0:10:19He leads the lions back to the zoo as the crowds cheer.

0:10:20 > 0:10:23Sometimes, the coastguard call on his services.

0:10:23 > 0:10:28"Help!" they shout. "A ship is about to crash onto the rocks!"

0:10:28 > 0:10:31Luckily, Eliot is a champion swimmer.

0:10:31 > 0:10:36He dives into waves, grabs the anchor and tows the ship to safety

0:10:36 > 0:10:39as the sailors shout, "Hurrah!"

0:10:39 > 0:10:42Sometimes the Queen requires his assistance.

0:10:42 > 0:10:46"A criminal mastermind has stolen the royal jewels,"

0:10:46 > 0:10:51announces the royal butler. Luckily, Eliot is an excellent sleuth.

0:10:51 > 0:10:54He sneaks into the criminal mastermind's hideout,

0:10:54 > 0:10:57cracks the code, opens the safe

0:10:57 > 0:11:01and returns the jewels to the grateful Queen.

0:11:01 > 0:11:03Eliot receives an urgent message

0:11:03 > 0:11:07from the world's most important scientists.

0:11:07 > 0:11:10"A gigantic meteor is heading this way!

0:11:10 > 0:11:12"It's going to smash into Earth!"

0:11:12 > 0:11:16This is Eliot's most important mission ever.

0:11:16 > 0:11:21But luckily, Eliot has built a meteor-busting rocket launcher

0:11:21 > 0:11:22for such occasions.

0:11:22 > 0:11:27Unluckily, it's hidden in a deep cave in the mountains of Tibet.

0:11:27 > 0:11:32The only way to get there before the meteor strikes is by supersonic jet.

0:11:32 > 0:11:35Luckily, Eliot is a skilled jet pilot.

0:11:35 > 0:11:37Eliot sets off.

0:11:37 > 0:11:40Over the Alps, over the Caspian Sea.

0:11:40 > 0:11:42Across the Himalayas.

0:11:42 > 0:11:46Uh-oh, clouds are forming in the mountains.

0:11:46 > 0:11:48Eliot can barely see.

0:11:48 > 0:11:51A snow-capped peak flashes past the window.

0:11:51 > 0:11:55Another looms straight ahead. Eliot swerves just in time!

0:11:57 > 0:12:00To reach the cave, he must land on the shortest,

0:12:00 > 0:12:04most dangerous runway in the world. He grips his controls.

0:12:04 > 0:12:07The wheels bump the ground. Screech!

0:12:07 > 0:12:09Eliot skids to a halt!

0:12:09 > 0:12:12The sky is blazing with the light of the meteor.

0:12:12 > 0:12:17Closer it comes. Eliot can see the entrance to the cave above him.

0:12:17 > 0:12:20Luckily, Eliot is an experienced mountaineer.

0:12:20 > 0:12:23He scrambles up the cliff and into the cave.

0:12:23 > 0:12:27Eliot swings the rocket launcher towards the sky.

0:12:27 > 0:12:30He aims, holds his breath, waits until the right moment.

0:12:30 > 0:12:32He fires - kapow!

0:12:32 > 0:12:37Eliot saves the world from destruction. Hurrah!

0:12:37 > 0:12:39Phew! That was close.

0:12:39 > 0:12:43The Queen gives Eliot an award for his courage.

0:12:43 > 0:12:47The Earth trembles with deafening applause.

0:12:47 > 0:12:51But being a midnight superhero is very tiring.

0:12:51 > 0:12:55And it doesn't leave Eliot with much energy.

0:12:55 > 0:12:58So by day,

0:12:58 > 0:13:01Eliot is quiet.

0:13:01 > 0:13:03Shh.

0:13:05 > 0:13:09And that story was called Eliot Jones, Midnight Superhero.

0:13:09 > 0:13:14I should get some sleep in case I have a midnight superhero adventure.

0:13:14 > 0:13:17And it's time for you to go to bed, too.

0:13:17 > 0:13:19I'll see you soon for another story.

0:13:19 > 0:13:24Hmm. I wonder how Eliot wakes himself up.

0:13:24 > 0:13:27Maybe I should set my alarm clock.
