0:26:50 > 0:26:57.
0:27:07 > 0:27:11Oh, great! There's some orange juice in the fridge.
0:27:11 > 0:27:15Although I'd really like...
0:27:15 > 0:27:19Oh, hello! I'm Shobna. Have you had a busy day?
0:27:19 > 0:27:20I've had a lot to do today
0:27:20 > 0:27:23and it's made me feel a little bit peckish.
0:27:23 > 0:27:27So I thought I'd look in the CBeebies fridge for a snack.
0:27:29 > 0:27:32I'd really like a drink and maybe some pancakes...
0:27:32 > 0:27:34with syrup - mmm!
0:27:36 > 0:27:38Do you like pancakes?
0:27:38 > 0:27:43Well, there's a very big animal in tonight's bedtime story who does.
0:27:43 > 0:27:44Let me get comfy.
0:27:44 > 0:27:47This story is by Anna Kemp and Sarah Ogilvie
0:27:47 > 0:27:51and it's called Rhinos Don't Eat Pancakes.
0:27:51 > 0:27:54Do you ever get the feeling that your mum and dad
0:27:54 > 0:27:56aren't listening to a word you say?
0:27:56 > 0:27:59You do? Then you're just like Daisy.
0:27:59 > 0:28:02Her mum and dad never listen.
0:28:02 > 0:28:03Daisy could tell them that
0:28:03 > 0:28:07their hair was on fire or the dog had eaten the postman,
0:28:07 > 0:28:10but they'd just nod and say, "That's nice, dear."
0:28:10 > 0:28:14Or, "Tell your gran." Or, "Can't you see I'm on the phone?"
0:28:14 > 0:28:19So, when Daisy has something has something really important to say,
0:28:19 > 0:28:20guess what?
0:28:20 > 0:28:23Nobody listened! So this is what happened.
0:28:23 > 0:28:25Daisy was eating her breakfast
0:28:25 > 0:28:29when a big purple rhino strolled into the kitchen.
0:28:29 > 0:28:33That's right, a big purple rhino!
0:28:33 > 0:28:36It was as big as a bus and as purple as a plum.
0:28:36 > 0:28:40It was also peckish, so it took a chomp of Daisy's pancake.
0:28:40 > 0:28:43"Mum! Mum!" Daisy called, "There's a big..."
0:28:43 > 0:28:48"Tell your dad," said Mum, "He'll catch it in a mug."
0:28:48 > 0:28:51"Dad!" said Daisy, "There's a big, there's a huge..."
0:28:51 > 0:28:54"Shh!" said Dad, "The spider can wait."
0:28:54 > 0:29:00"It's not a spider!" Daisy shouted, "It's a big purple rhinoceros!"
0:29:00 > 0:29:02But as usual nobody listened.
0:29:02 > 0:29:06Meanwhile, the rhino made himself right at home.
0:29:06 > 0:29:09Daisy saw him in the hall, glimpsed him in the garden,
0:29:09 > 0:29:13spied him in the bathroom and surprised him on the loo!
0:29:13 > 0:29:16Every time she tried to tell her parents they'd say,
0:29:16 > 0:29:18"Can't you see we're busy?!"
0:29:18 > 0:29:21Daisy's parents were busy all week,
0:29:21 > 0:29:24so Daisy began to talk to the rhino instead.
0:29:24 > 0:29:28They became good friends. They played hoopla, made pizza
0:29:28 > 0:29:31and the rhino tickled Daisy until she burst,
0:29:31 > 0:29:34but Daisy's parents didn't notice!
0:29:34 > 0:29:36Until the pancakes ran out.
0:29:36 > 0:29:40"Who ate all the pancakes?" yelled Dad, looking at Daisy.
0:29:40 > 0:29:42"It was the rhino!" she said.
0:29:42 > 0:29:45"Rhinos don't eat pancakes," said Dad.
0:29:45 > 0:29:49"This one does!" cried Daisy, "I saw him in the kitchen."
0:29:49 > 0:29:52"Rhino?" said Mum. "Kitchen?" said Dad.
0:29:52 > 0:29:56"Yes!" said Daisy, "Exactly." Mum and Dad roared with laughter.
0:29:56 > 0:30:01"Whatever next? A shark in the toilet? A polar bear in the fridge?"
0:30:01 > 0:30:03"There he is, look!" yelled Daisy,
0:30:03 > 0:30:07but Mum and Dad were so busy laughing they didn't even notice.
0:30:07 > 0:30:11"Come on, rhino," said Daisy, "I've had enough of this."
0:30:11 > 0:30:14The rhino tickled Daisy with his horn,
0:30:14 > 0:30:16but she was far too glum to giggle.
0:30:16 > 0:30:19"Mum and Dad never listen," she sighed,
0:30:19 > 0:30:22"they're always a million miles away."
0:30:22 > 0:30:27The rhino sighed deeply through his big purple nostrils.
0:30:27 > 0:30:29"I'm sorry, rhino," said Daisy.
0:30:29 > 0:30:34"Your family are a million miles away too, aren't they?"
0:30:34 > 0:30:38The rhino nodded and a lilac tear rolled down his cheek.
0:30:38 > 0:30:40Poor rhino.
0:30:40 > 0:30:45That night Daisy thought of ways to get the rhino to his family.
0:30:45 > 0:30:48He was too heavy for a hot air balloon
0:30:48 > 0:30:50and too big for Daisy's rubber dingy.
0:30:50 > 0:30:53She thought about lending him her bike,
0:30:53 > 0:30:55but the helmet would never fit.
0:30:55 > 0:30:58Next morning Mum and Dad had a surprise.
0:30:58 > 0:31:02"We're taking you to the zoo, so you can see a REAL rhino."
0:31:02 > 0:31:05"What do you think of that?" grinned Dad.
0:31:05 > 0:31:08Daisy thought it was a stupid idea,
0:31:08 > 0:31:11when there was already a rhino sitting on the sofa,
0:31:11 > 0:31:13but she didn't say so.
0:31:13 > 0:31:16What was the point? NOBODY would listen.
0:31:16 > 0:31:21At the zoo, Daisy saw yellow giraffes, bright red parrots,
0:31:21 > 0:31:24orange and black tigers and grass green snakes,
0:31:24 > 0:31:27but she couldn't help thinking about her poor rhino.
0:31:27 > 0:31:31"Hurry up, Daisy," said Mum, "the rhinos are this way!"
0:31:33 > 0:31:34But what was this?
0:31:34 > 0:31:38"Missing, big purple rhino. Likes pancakes.
0:31:38 > 0:31:39"If found call the zoo."
0:31:39 > 0:31:41"Cripes!" gasped Mum,
0:31:41 > 0:31:44"That explains the pancakes!" gasped Dad.
0:31:44 > 0:31:46Mum, Dad and Daisy rushed back home
0:31:46 > 0:31:49and guess what they saw when they got back?
0:31:49 > 0:31:54That's right, the biggest, purplest rhinoceros in town.
0:31:54 > 0:31:58"What did I tell you?" Daisy said, grinning from ear to ear.
0:31:58 > 0:32:02"I'm phoning the zoo," said Mum. The rhino looked startled.
0:32:02 > 0:32:03"No!" said Daisy,
0:32:03 > 0:32:07"He needs his family. They're a million miles away."
0:32:07 > 0:32:09"We'd better get a move on," said Dad,
0:32:09 > 0:32:13"The next flight leaves this afternoon."
0:32:13 > 0:32:17The rhino packed his suitcase, while Daisy found his hat.
0:32:17 > 0:32:20Then they pushed his big purple bottom into the car
0:32:20 > 0:32:22and drove to the airport.
0:32:22 > 0:32:26"I'll miss you," said Daisy, as the rhino boarded the plane.
0:32:26 > 0:32:29The rhino gave her a big purple hug,
0:32:29 > 0:32:30he would miss her too.
0:32:32 > 0:32:35Back at home Daisy began to feel lonely again.
0:32:35 > 0:32:38Who would listen to her now?
0:32:38 > 0:32:42Little did she realise that everything was about to change.
0:32:42 > 0:32:45"Tell us about the rhino, Daisy," said Mum.
0:32:45 > 0:32:50"Yes," said Dad, "tell us about that big purple pancake-eating rhino."
0:32:50 > 0:32:54Daisy told them about the hoopla and the pizza and the tickles,
0:32:54 > 0:32:55and guess what?
0:32:55 > 0:33:00They listened and listened, until she'd completely run out of words.
0:33:00 > 0:33:01It was BRILLIANT!
0:33:01 > 0:33:05"Is there anything else to tell us?" asked Mum,
0:33:05 > 0:33:07as she tucked Daisy into bed.
0:33:07 > 0:33:10Daisy looked out on to the landing.
0:33:10 > 0:33:15"No, that's all for now," said Daisy, smiling, "Night-night."
0:33:15 > 0:33:19The pink polar bear would have to wait until tomorrow!
0:33:19 > 0:33:23And that story was called Rhinos Don't Eat Pancakes.
0:33:23 > 0:33:26I wonder what a pink polar bear eats?
0:33:26 > 0:33:28Maybe we can find out tomorrow,
0:33:28 > 0:33:32but right now it's time for you to go to sleep like Daisy.
0:33:32 > 0:33:35I'll see you soon, for another story.
0:33:35 > 0:33:37Night-night.
0:33:37 > 0:33:39Now, what can I have to eat?
0:33:39 > 0:33:42Since the rhino ate all the pancakes!
0:33:44 > 0:33:45Hmm.
