0:26:10 > 0:26:13And cat. CAT MEOWS
0:26:14 > 0:26:18Oh, hello. I'm Lee. I was taking the register
0:26:18 > 0:26:21to make sure everyone's here for tonight's bedtime story.
0:26:21 > 0:26:25What's your name? Yes, you're down here, too.
0:26:25 > 0:26:29I'll put a tick next to you. Good.
0:26:29 > 0:26:34Everyone is present which means I can start tonight's bedtime story.
0:26:34 > 0:26:38It's about school. And it's by Andy Cutbill and Russell Ayto.
0:26:38 > 0:26:42The story is called First Week At Cow School.
0:26:42 > 0:26:44It was Monday morning.
0:26:44 > 0:26:48Marjorie, the cow, was straightening Daisy's ribbons
0:26:48 > 0:26:52when ding-a-ling, the farmyard bell rang.
0:26:52 > 0:26:57"Welcome to cow school, children," trilled Miss Goldtop, the teacher.
0:26:57 > 0:27:01Marjorie was feeling jolly proud. It seemed only yesterday
0:27:01 > 0:27:05that her daughter amazed everyone by hatching from an egg.
0:27:05 > 0:27:11Just then the chickens popped up. "Good luck, Daisy," they called.
0:27:11 > 0:27:14Daisy gave her mum a kiss and skipped inside.
0:27:14 > 0:27:17Quickly, Marjorie rushed to the window.
0:27:17 > 0:27:21Inside, Miss Goldtop was calling the register.
0:27:21 > 0:27:24"Bernard?" "Moo, Miss."
0:27:24 > 0:27:27"Malcolm?" "Moo, Miss."
0:27:27 > 0:27:30"Pauline?" "Moo, Miss."
0:27:30 > 0:27:33"Daisy?" "Cluck-cluck, moo, Miss."
0:27:34 > 0:27:40"Now," said Miss Goldtop, "let's start with a bit of hoof painting."
0:27:40 > 0:27:42All the cows got stuck in straight away
0:27:42 > 0:27:46and soon there were great big splodgy pictures everywhere.
0:27:46 > 0:27:50But Daisy's picture was a little... different.
0:27:50 > 0:27:53The next day was Tuesday.
0:27:53 > 0:27:56"Cowpat training," sang Miss Goldtop.
0:27:56 > 0:27:59All the small cows jumped to it.
0:27:59 > 0:28:02There were big pats and round pats,
0:28:02 > 0:28:05and steamy pats...
0:28:05 > 0:28:07and then there were Daisy's pats.
0:28:07 > 0:28:09Small and hard
0:28:09 > 0:28:12and rather like raisins.
0:28:12 > 0:28:15On Wednesday, there was cud chewing lesson.
0:28:15 > 0:28:20All the cows stampeded into the yard and immediately started chomping.
0:28:20 > 0:28:24But chomping somehow wasn't Daisy's cup of tea.
0:28:24 > 0:28:27Thursday was MOO-sic and MOO-vement.
0:28:27 > 0:28:33"Swish those tails," said Miss Goldtop, "Swat those flies."
0:28:33 > 0:28:39All the little cows had a marvellous time, swish, swish, swish!
0:28:39 > 0:28:42But Daisy's tail wasn't really long enough to swish.
0:28:42 > 0:28:46Besides, she preferred to eat the flies.
0:28:46 > 0:28:49Outside, the mums were starting to gossip.
0:28:49 > 0:28:52"Daisy's rather alternative."
0:28:52 > 0:28:55"Those funny legs and pointy feet."
0:28:55 > 0:28:59"It's almost as if she wasn't a cow at all."
0:28:59 > 0:29:03On the way home, Daisy was looking a little glum.
0:29:03 > 0:29:06"What's up?" asked Marjorie.
0:29:06 > 0:29:09"All the other cows are so talented," said Daisy,
0:29:09 > 0:29:13"but I don't feel very cow-like at all."
0:29:13 > 0:29:15Just then, the chickens popped up.
0:29:15 > 0:29:18"Not very cow-like?"
0:29:18 > 0:29:21They spluttered, "Well, we'll soon see about that."
0:29:21 > 0:29:23First thing on Friday morning,
0:29:23 > 0:29:28the chickens had a very important pow-wow in Miss Goldtop's office.
0:29:28 > 0:29:31Everybody tried to listen at the door.
0:29:31 > 0:29:33Finally, Miss Goldtop emerged.
0:29:33 > 0:29:36"Today," she said, a little shaken,
0:29:36 > 0:29:39"flying lessons."
0:29:39 > 0:29:42Well, the whole class was dumbstruck.
0:29:42 > 0:29:45No-one had been told about flying!
0:29:45 > 0:29:50Soon, there were cows charging everywhere, hopping up...
0:29:50 > 0:29:53and down, flapping their hooves wildly
0:29:53 > 0:29:57and not one got an inch off the ground.
0:29:57 > 0:29:59Apart from Daisy.
0:29:59 > 0:30:04With a single flap, she gracefully popped into the air,
0:30:04 > 0:30:08looped the loop and landed on the bottom of the bunk.
0:30:08 > 0:30:11Everyone was completely gobsmacked.
0:30:11 > 0:30:13So was Daisy, in fact.
0:30:13 > 0:30:17"Well, bless my soul," gasped Miss Goldtop.
0:30:17 > 0:30:19"Daisy can fly!"
0:30:19 > 0:30:21Marjorie rushed into the classroom.
0:30:21 > 0:30:25"What a talent," she whooped, scooping up her baby.
0:30:25 > 0:30:29"You're the most talked-about cow in history!"
0:30:29 > 0:30:31clucked the chickens, relieved.
0:30:31 > 0:30:34Daisy smiled at her mum.
0:30:34 > 0:30:36"Yes," she said.
0:30:36 > 0:30:40"Although, when I grow up, I'd like to be...
0:30:40 > 0:30:42"a chicken."
0:30:42 > 0:30:47"Now that would be something special," cooed Marjorie.
0:30:47 > 0:30:50And she promptly got a peck on the cheek.
0:30:50 > 0:30:55And that story was called First Week At Cow School.
0:30:55 > 0:31:01Well, if Daisy's a cow, then I think I could be...a hippopotamus.
0:31:02 > 0:31:04What would you be?
0:31:04 > 0:31:06It's definitely past Daisy's bedtime,
0:31:06 > 0:31:10and it's probably time for you to go to bed too.
0:31:10 > 0:31:12So I'll say good night.
0:31:12 > 0:31:15And, maybe, if you look out of your window,
0:31:15 > 0:31:18you might spot a cow flying over the moon.
0:31:18 > 0:31:20Night-night.
0:31:20 > 0:31:21See you soon.
