0:14:50 > 0:14:57.
0:15:03 > 0:15:06Oh, Hello! I'm Jonas.
0:15:06 > 0:15:10I'm just trying to fix this clock. You see, it's broken.
0:15:10 > 0:15:14So I thought if I did this, and then did this, well...
0:15:14 > 0:15:16it's not right!
0:15:16 > 0:15:19Do you know what I think I need?
0:15:19 > 0:15:24I think I need Tom from tonight's bedtime story to help me.
0:15:24 > 0:15:28Now he is very good at fixing things and inventing, too.
0:15:28 > 0:15:33This story is by Jonathan Emmett and Mark Oliver, and it's called
0:15:33 > 0:15:35Tom's Clockwork Dragon.
0:15:35 > 0:15:37Finished, said Tom.
0:15:37 > 0:15:40He wound up the little clockwork horse,
0:15:40 > 0:15:43and watched it gallop across the workbench.
0:15:43 > 0:15:47Just then, Tom's master, the Toymaker, returned.
0:15:47 > 0:15:50Crash! The horse galloped off the edge of the bench
0:15:50 > 0:15:53and smashed into pieces on the floor.
0:15:53 > 0:15:56"What was that?" scowled the Toymaker.
0:15:56 > 0:16:01"It was a clockwork horse," sighed Tom, gathering up the pieces.
0:16:01 > 0:16:05"You're a useless apprentice, and you're fired!" he shouted
0:16:05 > 0:16:08and he threw Tom out of the door.
0:16:08 > 0:16:11Tom looked for a new job on the town notice board,
0:16:11 > 0:16:15but there were no adverts for a toy maker's apprentice.
0:16:15 > 0:16:18In fact, there was only one job advert
0:16:18 > 0:16:21and it had been there for months. It said,
0:16:21 > 0:16:25"Wanted. Brave Knight to rid the kingdom of Flamethrottle,
0:16:25 > 0:16:29"the ferocious, man-eating, treasure-stealing dragon."
0:16:34 > 0:16:37The King nearly fell off his throne laughing
0:16:37 > 0:16:40when Tom turned up at the palace. "Ha-ha-ha!
0:16:40 > 0:16:44"The advert was for a brave knight, not a foolish boy!"
0:16:44 > 0:16:45he said, wiping his eyes.
0:16:45 > 0:16:49"But since all the real knights have been eaten by the dragon,
0:16:49 > 0:16:52"I suppose you might as well give it a try.
0:16:52 > 0:16:55"But you need to be properly dressed," he added,
0:16:55 > 0:16:59"Go and ask the armourer to knock you a suit in your size."
0:16:59 > 0:17:06The Armoury was empty except for a young girl named Lizzie.
0:17:06 > 0:17:09"What do you want?" she asked.
0:17:09 > 0:17:12"Er, a suit of armour, please?" said Tom.
0:17:12 > 0:17:15"Armour?" said Lizzie. "You don't look like a knight!"
0:17:15 > 0:17:19"Well, you don't look like an armourer," said Tom.
0:17:19 > 0:17:23"I'm not!" said Lizzie. "My Dad is. There were no proper knights
0:17:23 > 0:17:26"left to make armour for so he stays in bed,
0:17:26 > 0:17:29"and I thought I'd have a go while he wasn't here.
0:17:29 > 0:17:32"What do you need armour for, anyway?"
0:17:32 > 0:17:35"I am going to get rid of the dragon," said Tom.
0:17:35 > 0:17:39"Ha! You? You'll never do it. The only thing that will drive
0:17:39 > 0:17:42"that dragon away is a bigger, scarier dragon."
0:17:42 > 0:17:46"Drive it away," he repeated slowly to himself.
0:17:46 > 0:17:51"I think I know what to do," he said, "but I'll need your help."
0:17:51 > 0:17:55So later that night, Tom and Lizzie crept into the cave
0:17:55 > 0:18:00where Flamethrottle lay asleep. The dragon was twice the size
0:18:00 > 0:18:03that Tom had expected and three times as scary-looking.
0:18:03 > 0:18:07The mouth of the cave was littered with armour,
0:18:07 > 0:18:12which was all that was left of the brave knights who dared to go in.
0:18:12 > 0:18:17"Come on!" hissed Lizzie, and they quietly gathered up the armour.
0:18:17 > 0:18:19Back at the workshop, Tom and Lizzie
0:18:19 > 0:18:23took the armour to pieces and began to make something new.
0:18:23 > 0:18:28"It's finished!" said Lizzie, fastening the last plate in place.
0:18:28 > 0:18:32"It's magnificent!" said Tom, admiring their creation.
0:18:32 > 0:18:36"It'd better work," yawned Lizzie. "Of course it'll work!" said Tom,
0:18:36 > 0:18:40picking up an enormous key, "Just as soon as I've wound it up!"
0:18:40 > 0:18:45Flamethrottle was woken the next morning by a loud clanking sound.
0:18:45 > 0:18:47He charged out to have it for breakfast,
0:18:47 > 0:18:51but found a bigger, fiercer-looking dragon outside.
0:18:51 > 0:18:53"What are you doing here?"
0:18:53 > 0:18:56demanded the new dragon in a harsh, metallic voice.
0:18:56 > 0:19:00"Er, I live here." said Flamethrottle, weakly.
0:19:00 > 0:19:04"Not any more, you don't!" bellowed the giant dragon. "OUT!"
0:19:04 > 0:19:09"R-right!" stuttered Flamethrottle, glancing back at the treasure.
0:19:09 > 0:19:11"Perhaps I could just collect..."
0:19:11 > 0:19:14"No! Get out, now!" roared the giant dragon,
0:19:14 > 0:19:19chasing Flamethrottle away from the cave. They had almost chased
0:19:19 > 0:19:23him out of the kingdom when the huge mechanical legs ground to a halt.
0:19:23 > 0:19:28Tom fiddled frantically with the controls, but nothing happened.
0:19:28 > 0:19:33The clockwork motor must have run down, he groaned. Flamethrottle
0:19:33 > 0:19:37noticed he wasn't being chased and crept back to investigate.
0:19:37 > 0:19:42There was something odd about this dragon. Its skin was too shiny
0:19:42 > 0:19:47and it moved in a strange way. "What's that big key for?" he asked,
0:19:47 > 0:19:50but then Tom had another of his ideas.
0:19:50 > 0:19:55"Please, please do NOT touch that," he called. "It's very important!"
0:19:55 > 0:19:58"What did you tell him that for?" hissed Lizzie.
0:19:58 > 0:20:01"Why is it important?" demanded Flamethrottle.
0:20:01 > 0:20:06"Because I am a mechanical dragon," replied Tom, "If you turn that key,
0:20:06 > 0:20:10"my legs will lock and I won't be able to chase after you."
0:20:10 > 0:20:13"Really?" said Flamethrottle, gleefully.
0:20:13 > 0:20:15And he grabbed the key and gave it a turn.
0:20:15 > 0:20:20Phew! Tom heaved a sigh of relief. His idea was working.
0:20:20 > 0:20:23"Please, please stop!" whimpered Tom.
0:20:23 > 0:20:27"Or my jaws will lock and I will not be able to chomp you up."
0:20:27 > 0:20:30So, of course, Flamethrottle seized the key,
0:20:30 > 0:20:34and turned it again and again until it would turn no more.
0:20:34 > 0:20:37"Now I've got you!" yelled Flamethrower, triumphantly.
0:20:37 > 0:20:42"No, now I've got you!" said Tom, pulling hard on the controls.
0:20:42 > 0:20:45The fully-wound clockwork dragon sprang up
0:20:45 > 0:20:48and lurched forward with gaping jaws.
0:20:48 > 0:20:53"Urgh!" screamed Flamethrottle. And without stopping to see
0:20:53 > 0:20:56if the metal dragon's legs and claws were also working,
0:20:56 > 0:21:00he scrambled out of the kingdom and was never seen again.
0:21:00 > 0:21:05The King was pleased to be rid of the real dragon, and delighted
0:21:05 > 0:21:09to be presented with the clockwork one. He gave Tom and Lizzie
0:21:09 > 0:21:12half of Flamethrottle's treasure, as promised.
0:21:12 > 0:21:16And they used the reward to set up a clockwork toy shop,
0:21:16 > 0:21:20where they made and sold the most wonderful clockwork toys.
0:21:20 > 0:21:25The shop sold everything from clockwork archers to zebras.
0:21:25 > 0:21:29But their most popular toy was...well, can you guess?
0:21:29 > 0:21:34Yes, it was their little clockwork dragons, of course.
0:21:36 > 0:21:40And that story was called, Tom's Clockwork Dragon.
0:21:40 > 0:21:45Now, I don't need to do anything to this alarm clock to make sure
0:21:45 > 0:21:47it wakes me up in the morning.
0:21:47 > 0:21:49And it's time for you to go to bed.
0:21:49 > 0:21:53So I'll see you very soon for another bedtime story.
0:21:53 > 0:21:59Good night! So, if I pull this one here...
