0:00:03 > 0:00:07Hello, I'm Simon. Are you nearly ready for bed?
0:00:07 > 0:00:11With your pyjamas on, your teeth cleaned and your face washed?
0:00:11 > 0:00:15Good. Jack in tonight's bedtime story is not ready to go to bed.
0:00:15 > 0:00:18He's decided he'd rather fight dragons
0:00:18 > 0:00:21and terrible beasties before he goes to bed.
0:00:21 > 0:00:23Let me tell you about him.
0:00:23 > 0:00:26This story is by Peter Bently and Helen Oxenbury,
0:00:26 > 0:00:30and it's called King Jack And The Dragon.
0:00:30 > 0:00:33Jack, Zack and Casper were making a den,
0:00:33 > 0:00:36a mighty great fort for King Jack and his men.
0:00:36 > 0:00:40A big cardboard box, an old sheet and some sticks,
0:00:40 > 0:00:43a couple of bin bags, a few broken bricks.
0:00:43 > 0:00:47A fine royal throne from a ragged old quilt,
0:00:47 > 0:00:51a drawbridge, a flag, and the castle was built.
0:00:51 > 0:00:55"Prepare to do battle, brave knights!" cried King Jack.
0:00:55 > 0:00:58"Protect your king's castle from dragon attack!"
0:01:00 > 0:01:04They spend the whole day fighting dragons and beasts. Ggrr!
0:01:04 > 0:01:08And return to their stronghold for fabulous feasts.
0:01:08 > 0:01:12"We'll all sleep the night in the fort," said King Jack.
0:01:12 > 0:01:16Then a giant came by, and went home with Sir Zack.
0:01:17 > 0:01:21"Two can fight dragons! No problem!" Jack said.
0:01:21 > 0:01:25Then another giant came and took Casper to bed.
0:01:25 > 0:01:28Wrapped up in his blanket, Jack sat on his throne.
0:01:28 > 0:01:32"All right, then," he said, "I'll fight dragons alone."
0:01:32 > 0:01:36Then a strong gust of wind made the trees start to quiver.
0:01:36 > 0:01:42"It's nothing!" thought Jack, with a hint of a shiver.
0:01:42 > 0:01:46A mouse scampered over the roof, skitter scurry.
0:01:46 > 0:01:49"It's nothing!" thought Jack.
0:01:49 > 0:01:51"There's no reason to worry."
0:01:51 > 0:01:53"Werrrggh!" croaked a frog.
0:01:55 > 0:01:58"It's nothing!" thought Jack,
0:01:58 > 0:02:01as he switched on his torch in the deepening black.
0:02:01 > 0:02:05"Too-Whooooo!" called an owl.
0:02:05 > 0:02:07"It's nothing!" Jack said,
0:02:07 > 0:02:10as he pulled up his blanket right over his head.
0:02:10 > 0:02:14Then suddenly brave King Jack's heart skipped a beat.
0:02:14 > 0:02:17He could hear something coming.
0:02:17 > 0:02:20A thing with FOUR feet.
0:02:20 > 0:02:24It was outside the drawbridge. King Jack gave a yelp.
0:02:24 > 0:02:28"A dragon! A dragon! Mum! Dad! Help!"
0:02:28 > 0:02:31He wished he was anything else but a king
0:02:31 > 0:02:35as the drawbridge fell open and there stood THE THING!
0:02:35 > 0:02:39"We're sorry," smiled Mum, "If we gave you a fright,
0:02:39 > 0:02:43"but it's time for brave kings to come in for the night."
0:02:43 > 0:02:47"And kings who fought dragons all day need a bath,"
0:02:47 > 0:02:50said Dad as he lifted King Jack off the path.
0:02:50 > 0:02:54"I knew you weren't really a dragon,"
0:02:54 > 0:02:59yawned Jack, as he bravely rode home on a big giant's back.
0:03:00 > 0:03:04That story was called King Jack And The Dragon.
0:03:04 > 0:03:07And just like Jack, it's time for you to go to bed now.
0:03:07 > 0:03:11I'll see you soon for another story. Good night.
0:03:11 > 0:03:15I wonder if there are any dragons in the theatre here.
